A former WWE cameraman is suing Titus O'Neil for injuries sustained during a taping of "Swerved." I mean, shocking someone with a cattle prod usually doesn't elicit a positive response.
AAA legend Gran Apache has passed away. He did a lot for the Mexican wrestling scene.
Tyler Bate vs. Pete Dunne for the WWE UK Championship is official for Takeover:Chicago. Dunne is supposedly held in pretty high regard by WWE, so he could be in for big things going forward.
WWE will air their UK brand shows taped this weekend later this month on the Network. They've got a pretty good head start on World of Sport. The UK is a really important market in wrestling now.
Emma was injured during a match on a Raw live event recently. Her women's match was stopped and she was taken backstage. More on this in future posts. It's a shame she could be going right back off TV after finally coming back to the ring.
A team called the Fraternity lost to Cheeseburger and Will Ferrara in a dark match at ROH/NJPW War of the Worlds in Ontario.
For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I'm under the impression it's a case of a lot of photos being accidentally being automatically uploaded to Apple servers, which were then hacked several years ago. The hackers are releasing a few celebrities' photos at a time so they get plenty of play over time instead of one huge story years back. But yes, if it's not clear by now, there need to be lessons for millennials that it's all too easy for "private" photos and information to be very, very public.
2. While they couldn't and shouldn't really say "don't take these kinds of photos in your private life," WWE should definitely be letting talent know how easy it is for information to go public in 2017 and giving them appropriate safety lessons.
3. It's probably more of a case of talents trying to get into NXT/WWE. WWE is being more cautious of signing people right out of ROH in order to avoid potential legal ramifications for contract tampering, so talents will work somewhere else for some time before officially entering negotiations to join WWE.
4. I don't remember exactly what was said, but I do know once someone makes a stance, it's hard to get them to change their minds.
5. I know they put a lot of thought into which towns and venues will be most successful based on how things went last time. There are a lot of factors involved, including relationships with venues and routing other nearby shows.

WWE Italy return set, WWE-top international star update, interesting WWE Network note, Raw live event note, and Questions on Impact's Broken trademarks, Okada missing WotW, evaluating Sonjay, and the lack of animals in wrestling
WWE will return to Italy from November 10 through 12. I would not be shocked to see a European "brand" sometime down the line.
Kairi Hojo officially said goodbye to STARDOM ahead of almost certainly heading to the WWE Performance Center. I'm curious as to whether they'll debut her in the women's tournament or have her face Asuka before the latter heads to the main roster. Either way, she's expected to be a big prospect for NXT/WWE. There continues to be speculation of Io Shirai following her, but so far there's nothing official to report on that end.
Sundays on WWE Network are now expected to feature live streams of previous year PPV events and their "go-home" shows. For instance, this Sunday will feature the previous edition of Backlash and the Smackdown that aired five days before it.
Curtis Axel worked as a heel on WWE's ongoing UK tour, teaming Curt Hawkins, Titus O'Neil, and Bo Dallas in a loss to Heath Slater, Rhyno, and Golden Truth. That's probably just a result of needing someone to move over to the heel side for the loop to even things up. It's not like Axel is used all that prominently anyway.
For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. They can't stop him from using his actual middle name, but they're wanting to lay claim to the Brother Nero character because Impact creative helped put the Broken stuff together.
2. Their argument will be that Broken Matt was partially created by Impact and used on their show. Whether that will mean it's their property will depend on what was written in the Hardys' Impact contracts regarding the ideas they came up with while there. It's similar to how Dustin Runnels couldn't be Goldust anywhere but WWE even if he came up with everything himself, because it was made under the WWE umbrella. Impact might have the legal upper hand here, but I don't see how it's going to really benefit them to have ownership of the characters. On one level it'd be funny to see them do a take on the Razor Ramon/Diesel situation after Hall and Nash went to WCW, but ultimately they're preventing two really popular talents from doing some of the most over gimmicks in wrestling.
3. Probably some of all of that.
4. I like Sonjay well enough. Sometimes you need someone who's a little more low-key to put the matches together and showcase the strengths of others, in a similar way to how a baseball team needs pinch hitters and people who can steal bases instead of a team that just hits home runs. Not everyone's going to blow it out of the water in every category.
5. It's also not always easy or inexpensive to have trained animals be part of something like that. I do wonder how over it'd really be in 2017 to have someone come to the ring with an animal, although I'm sure New Day would have gotten a pop for unicorns at Wrestlemania.

I'm getting burned out on 205 Live. The matches are good, but because we see the same people so often, it's not special anymore.
I'm liking the action so far. They're playing a good game of agility vs. technique.
Fine work so far.
I'm liking the submissions.
Heck, I'm liking the flips, too.

Axel's a pretty good "soldier" to have matches at this level.
Hawkins is fine as a guy to work some basic action like this.
Axel can be a solid worker. I wouldn't mind him being part of a team again or something.

Alicia Fox celebrated 11 years in WWE. That's really impressive. Glad she's done so well there.
Titus O'Neil talked to USA Today. He's got a lot of good things going his way. I could see him staying with WWE for a good while like Goldust and R-Truth.
Fight Network, owned by Anthem, is reporting WOS tapings were postponed due to logistical issues related to Impact filming things in India around the same time. Basically Anthem's crew would be busy in the UK and India during the same week and they presumably don't want to to do that kind of thing. WWE has a much bigger staff and a lot more experience, so it's not a problem for them. Notably, Anthem will have the ability to shop the show outside of the UK. That could be good for the project's lasting power.
- Of course, previous outside reports are citing issues about how much money Anthem and ITV respectively will put into the venture as why tapings aren't happening. It could easily be a mix of the reasons.
Joe Koff talked ROH vs. WWE and more:
- Really?? Koff would rather have "good wrestling" than make hundreds of millions of dollars??? Is Sinclair OK with that philosophy?
- Dude. ROH is in the same business as WWE. They're absolutely competitors.
- Well, no one's paying ROH to do a weekly three-hour TV show and another two-hour one, so it's kind of a moot point.
- ROH could use some more discipline with its matches so there aren't SO many people doing superkicks and dives. Some of that falls on the bookers, though.
- Again, there's not the demand for ROH to have the schedule WWE has. They're a pretty niche product. Although I suppose it's fair to say there's demand for a lot of those stars to work a fuller schedule with dates from other promotions.
- Yeah, there's still the grind when you're an indie wrestler, but you can get time off more easily when you book your own dates.
WWE's women tournament is expected to begin taping in July and conclude with a live special at the end of August, with a total of between eight and ten episodes. It will likely be taped at Full Sail Live and be added to the Network a few episodes at a time as opposed to being a weekly series like the cruiserweight classic was. As with that event, there's a big focus on international talents competing. WWE and NXT could use more female talents, and this could very well lead to more names hired for spots on Raw, Smackdown, and the WWE Performance Center.
Impact Wrestling drew 260,000 viewers Thursday. With only getting 255,000 last week, that's a disappointing one-two punch for their new approach. They've really got their work cut out for them in not fading away and being classified as OBSOLETE in the wrestling world. We'll see what Pop thinks of those numbers when it's time to see if they'll pick the show up for 2018.
Impact has filed trademarks for "Broken Matt," "Brother Nero," "Broken Brilliance," and "Vanguard 1." With the Hardys first using those ideas on Impact shows, Impact might have a legal right to all of them. Hopefully WWE can just cut them a check and tell them to piss off so everyone involved can move on to other things.
WWE has trademarked the names HoHo Lun, Tyler Bate, Mustafa Ali, and TJP, in addition to "The Maharajah" for Jinder Mahal.
Kofi Kingston and Big E will promote WWE in India from May 10th through May 12th. I expect more Indian signings going forward. We could very well see an Indian worker in the women's tournament.
NXT might be using their previous championship designs on live events in order to sell the remaining replicas of them at those shows. The new designs don't have replicas available for sale yet.
For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. The count is "at the referee's discretion," and they can stretch it out to give more leeway or speed it up if a star's actions are illegal.
2. The narrative is that WWE is building up to the Hardys going full-on Broken because they think it will sell a lot of merchandise. As for a "lawsuit," it was actually just cease-and-desist letters. No lawsuit at this time, and it's expected everyone will come to an agreement to where the Hardys can do pretty much what they did in Impact. And I don't see the Hardys being upset as long as they get to do some fun stuff themselves. If they can't be Broken for some reason, they're still having a pretty good nostalgia run to presumably write a final chapter of their wrestling careers.
3. As was said, once you're outside of the events, you're on your own. There aren't a ton of options in some town for the hours they have available to eat, etc.
4. It's a cosmetic business at times. A lot of aspects of life are these days.
5. ECW is very close to Mike's heart, so all involved are willing to let him do those shows as long as he gets all his PWInsider duties done, too.

Stephanie McMahon was interviewed in the Middle East:
- WWE reaching out to more more markets and demographics is a key growth strategy.

- I definitely expect a live special from the Middle East at some point, but I think that might be a ways off.
- Very glad to see the women's division being more than it used to be. Girls can look up to Sasha or Bayley more than they could people in the bra and panties matches days.
- I wholly expect Steph's return to WWE TV. I think in a lot of ways she'll be the next Vince in some ways HHH won't be.
- Some are already speculating on HHH vs. Angle when Stephanie returns to TV. WM34 seems like a pretty fair bet for that.
Former WWE creative member Kevin Eck talked about ideas he had that didn't get approved:
- I love these "what if" kinds of things.

- The Mark Henry angle was pretty great. He got a big last hurrah out of it.
- Holy shit Foley got worked into a shoot? I'd never heard that. He had said he was rooting for Dean to be able to succeed on the main roster and wondered why WWE hadn't used him yet. I'm split on whether Ambrose should have been brought up earlier.
- AJ and Ambrose could have been a lot of fun.
- AJ was overexposed as Raw GM. I liked her, but they put her in WAY too many segments.
- I would have been down for that version of The Shield, although I wonder what they would have done with Roman in that case. He did add something to the group Kassius wouldn't have necessarily brought.
- That Shield angle sounds AWESOME.
- Punk's heel run was pretty fun.
- Alberto just couldn't get momentum after splitting with Ricardo.
- That Alberto/Show angle could have been good.
- Oh, man. Cody and Kaitlyn would have been so much fun.
- Oh joy the Bellas!
- Oh MAN that Kaitlyn burial by Vince.
- The Cody and Brandi idea could have been pretty fun, too.
- The Stardust/Goldust feud just didn't become what it could have been. Goldust hasn't done much since.
Mark Henry beat up a mascot as part of an angle at an NBA game. That's awesome.
Attorneys representing Impact in a lawsuit brought about by a former merchandise dealer have withdrawn from defending the company, citing lack of payment. Not good. Impact needs to get all their legal issues sorted soon in order to focus on live events and other future plans.
Robbie E talked about working in Japan. I hope we see him team with Bram when he returns to the U.S.. That could be a pretty fun "odd couple" pairing.
Dalton Castle vs. Bobby Fish vs. Silas Young vs. KUSHIDA has been booked for the War of the Worlds PPV next week. I've honestly lost track of everything that's been announced at this point. It's a lot to keep track of!
WOS will try to put together tapings in July or August, pending getting an agreement settled with Anthem regarding how the project will be structured and financed. The plan is for the project to eventually become a touring promotion with live events rather than solely a TV show.
The new NWA isn't expected to run any events in 2017, as plans for the project are still coming together. The new NWA could create a show chronicling the company's prominence in the decades preceding Wrestlemania. However, a significant amount of the company's library is owned by WWE, so that might be hard to pull off. The company's legacy is its top asset, but I don't know how much that will mean to fans in 2017.
Mexico's Crash promotion is looking to create a regular show, either digitally or on the air. That will theoretically mean more work for people working with Konnan, including Impact talents by way of the working agreement between the two promotions.
NJPW's July 1 and 2 shows could air on AXS TV live. That would be pretty big for the company as it looks to expand in the U.S.
Katsuyori Shibata remains hospitalized in stable condition. I hope he's able to have a quality life after a scary health situation.
Lance Hoyt will miss six months of action. He could return to NJPW or NOAH when he recovers, which would open him up to cross over with ROH and Impact. Hoyt returning to Impact is an interesting possibility. He fit in there better than he did in WWE.

New Network episode coming, Taker surgery?, WWE game update, top convention canceled, Smackdown audience, Willie Nelson in WWE movie, and Questions on talents being traded among promotions, the exaggerated Mauro situation, and why WWE likes Tom Phillips
A new Bring It To The Table will debut after Raw. I'm sure that will rustle a lot of feathers again. I look forward to hearing more of WWE's side of things since they don't usually respond to what people are complaining about in such a direct manner.
The Undertaker is believed to have undergone hip surgery. I hope now that he doesn't have to worry about being a top wrestler, he can live a pain-free life with his family. It's time.
WWE Supercard has a new update out. Kind of a slow news day...
The annual Mid-Atlantic Legends Fanfest has been canceled, although they plan on bringing it back in 2018. That's a pretty popular event, so it's a shame it won't be taking place this year.
Smackdown drew 2.30 million viewers Tuesday night, a sizeable drop from last week. The casual fans who came for WM33 have left. That's a shame, because they missed a big show headlined by a Payback rematch.
Shawn Michaels and Willie Nelson will be in an upcoming WWE Studios film. So presumably Willie can go into the Hall of Fame in 2018.

1. Maybe he was biding his time to see what was going to go on with the shakeup, etc? I mean, what if Brock was drafted? Then what would he do? Sometimes it's good to survey the scene before making big moves.

3. You know, they might actually be able to do that, like when NJPW sends a talent to the States to get seasoning, etc. If the promotions in question have an agreement to do so, I would think it would fly legally.
4. Mauro could have easily just said "WWE and I have agreed to part ways." The fact he went out of his way to say it didn't have to do with JBL is notable. The story took on a life on its own. I'm sure it sold subscriptions to sites with "exclusive info" on what's "REALLY happening," but until we have concrete evidence there's more to the story than what all involved are saying publicly, it's best to keep what's being reported as rumors that have not been corroborated.

The Undertaker is believed to have undergone hip surgery. I hope now that he doesn't have to worry about being a top wrestler, he can live a pain-free life with his family. It's time.
WWE Supercard has a new update out. Kind of a slow news day...
The annual Mid-Atlantic Legends Fanfest has been canceled, although they plan on bringing it back in 2018. That's a pretty popular event, so it's a shame it won't be taking place this year.
Smackdown drew 2.30 million viewers Tuesday night, a sizeable drop from last week. The casual fans who came for WM33 have left. That's a shame, because they missed a big show headlined by a Payback rematch.
Shawn Michaels and Willie Nelson will be in an upcoming WWE Studios film. So presumably Willie can go into the Hall of Fame in 2018.
For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Maybe he was biding his time to see what was going to go on with the shakeup, etc? I mean, what if Brock was drafted? Then what would he do? Sometimes it's good to survey the scene before making big moves.
