John Cena's injury is legitimate and he will indeed miss several months. While on the surface this is a blow to WWE, it presents a lot of opportunities for people to step up. Hopefully that won't be temporary.
Alberto Del Rio and Drew McIntyre got into a fight with several patrons of a club near the WWE hotel over Summerslam weekend, leading to Del Rio's facial injuries. No word on if they were clients of Ricardo Rodriguez.
Here's a preview of DDP appearing on Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel. That looks like a lot of fun!
Maria Menounos' involvement at Summerslam AXXESS was profiled, so they did get some of the buzz they were looking for with her competing. There have definitely been worse celebrity involvements in wrestling.
Everything else from yesterday is after the break.
Reaction was mixed to the end of Summerslam, with some knocking the fact that it was HHH's finish that got the win and that Bryan couldn't kick out. Bryan had just gone through a war with Cena, so the Pedigree just finished a job that was already pretty much accomplished. If the Bryan and Cena roles were reversed, people would be praising Cena for staying down and selling the brutal match. At any rate, if this ends with Bryan going over Orton and eventually HHH (hopefully at Mania) to make him one of the top guys in wrestling, I'm all for it.
HBK talked about Darren Young coming out. They should interview The Briscoes about it.
Also interviewed ahead of Summerslam were The Miz and Cody Rhodes. Cody seems poised to break out sooner rather than later.
Update: And Randy Orton, who talked about injuries and more. It's rather risky to put the Title on someone with his injury/Wellness status. The story's great, but it's risky.
The Rock gave his opinion of Summerslam. He's right about the hard work everyone put in.
Ultimate Warrior promoted WWE 2K14. They should have had him in that trainwreck symposium.
Los Matadores, shown in a video on Raw, are Primo and Epico. I imagine they might be going under new names. Probably for the best. I wonder what this means for Rosa Mendes, who hasn't been seen in quite a while following being sent home from a European tour.
Smackdown dropped to 2.4 million viewers, which is disappointing going into the second-biggest PPV of the year.
For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. CONSPIRACY! It could be that TMZ interviewed him, asked him about the NBA star, and then once they found out he was gay, they shot a new interview with that as the focal point. But yeah, WWE could have set it up as well.
2. People really like the idea of wrestling companies going head-to-head, huh? Their explanation is plausible. If I'm Spike and Smackdown ends up on Thursdays, I'm moving Impact to a different day. After what happened when they went up against Raw, I'd be very hesitant to run against WWE.
3. >Goldberg >coming back to WWE. Don't count on it. It would make sense from a storyline perspective, but Goldberg's been gone for quite a while and has remained largely out of the spotlight compared to Rock and Lesnar.
4. ABSOLUTELY the U.S. and IC Titles. What's bigger, winning the Minor League World Series or being in the MLB playoffs? Most people don't watch NXT.
5. I wouldn't rule it out! Some of it will depend on how well the fans react to Young.
More wrestling tomorrow.
