Dutch Savage, star from the Pacific Northwest, passed away at 78. NFL Hall of Famer Art Donovan passed away at 88. He was a guest commentator at the '94 King of the Ring. They'll both be missed by those who knew them.
Here's a report from a Mick Foley comedy outing featuring DDP, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, and Scott Hall. Glad to hear that Hall and Roberts have improved.
The WM29 special on NBC did 1.92 million viewers, which is pretty good. I'm impressed.
WWE has named a new VP of Kids' Entertainment. Cool story, bro. Next. I mean, I guess that's cool and all. Doesn't really affect me in any way at this stage.
Everything else from yesterday is after the break.
WWE has registered to trademark "Second City Saint", a popular nickname for C.M. Punk. I would have thought that they already had that trademarked, but apparently not!
The latest edition of Smackdown drew 2.75 million, higher than any Smackdown in the last 3 months. Punk, Orton, and RVD + on the road to Summerslam = ratings.
No, the former Disco Inferno isn't dead. Just his career. Seriously, though, he's still alive as of this writing.
Dixie Carter confirmed that Kurt Angle is in rehab, and that she's not too good at the whole Twitter thing. Try Twitlonger, Dixie. I sincerely wish Angle the best in his recovery.
For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Some of it is that Kane, HBK, and HHH stuck around while Austin retired, Rock did movies, Angle went to TNA, and Brock did the NFL and UFC. Vince could only use the people who were around! And maybe he didn't want those performers losing to Taker?
2. Long story short, being a WWE superstar is very difficult and it's a lot of work. I would like if some performers got more time off on something of a rotating schedule.
3 and 4. Yeah, I can't really put the blame on TNA and Dixie here (or even Hogan!). It's pretty much a Viacom thing. I see why they do it, but it is kind of frustrating that they have plenty of TV time for non-wrestlers, part-time wrestlers, and over-40 wrestlers, but others get released.
5. WHOA, BROTHER. NONE OF THOSE VANILLA MIDGETS CAN DRAW LIKE THE HULKSTER, JACK. THEY'RE NOT READY LIKE ROB TERRY OR GARETT BISCHOFF, DUDE. IMPACT WRESTLING 4 LYFE, 4 LYFE, 4 LYFE. They also don't have VINCE MCMAHON, DAMNIT. So yeah, NXT is pretty good for those reasons alone. However, they also have a number of pretty talented performers, straight-forward storylines, and championships that mean something with very little in the way of non-wrestlers taking up time. It gets a thumbs up from me for sure.
More wrestling tomorrow.
