Curtis Axel was profiled and interviewed ahead of a WWE live event. I liked that they profiled the members of the roster.
Dolph Ziggler was also interviewed. Hopefully that interview "sold" some people to check out the show. Get it? Sold? Never mind.
John Cena will be a part of a Capri Sun promotion. WWE's shows are definitely fresher with him not around, since they're building other characters. I bet TNA dropping guys like Hogan and Sting in favor of some talented younger stars would be great, too.
Mini luchador Mascara Dorada will be working some shows for NJPW soon, which would seem to rule out the rumors of him being under WWE contract. I was somewhat curious about seeing him teaming with Los Matadores, or at least willing to give it a chance.
Everything else from yesterday is after the break.
C.M. Punk will be back on Raw for the next taping, which is in Chicago. I hope they don't throw Ryback under a bus in this feud.
Omarosa of reality TV fame was at this week's WWE tapings. She dates Titus O'Neil. I wonder if she'll ever become a part of the show?
Gavin Spears, who wrestled briefly on the ECW brand, has been re-signed by WWE and is back working in the new Performance Center. He's trying out a "split personality" character, but it's unknown if he'll make it to TV (NXT or otherwise) with that role. I remember very little about his previous run, so he's got something of a blank slate as far as I'm concerned.
Chris Jericho was interviewed about BUILDING NEW STARS, his WWE future and more. Someone has to lose, and a part-timer who's already a sure-fire Hall of Famer makes sense for putting people over and helping people get further in their careers so one day THEY can be sure-fire Hall of Famers. Jericho has nothing left to accomplish or prove.
Dixie Carter's promo at the end of Impact was lauded as the best thing she had done on-camera (which admittedly isn't saying much). She's certainly more interesting as a heel, but most characters fit that bill. For those not watching TNA, that segment was at least worth checking out. It played into some real frustrations that fans have about TNA. The "paid vacation" remark was a shot at Booker T, who basically said that about his TNA tenure. Watching the segment again, Dixie kind of verbally buried Styles there.
Of note, Dixie had just found out about her father-in-law's death before that promo. That had to be a really tough day.
The superstars who helped Daniel Bryan after his beat down on Raw talked. Hopefully this angle helps get some of them further along in their careers.
WWE is running a street party in Hidalgo, Texas as part of a celebration of the local arena's 10th anniversary. Big Show, Alicia Fox, Brodus Clay, R-Truth and Sin Cara are all advertised. That could be cool.
Dean Ambrose had a Q&A with The Monitor. He's a REALLY good promo guy. I wonder if Show cries in catering as much as he has on TV lately. On a side note, can you imagine catering for WWE? Jesus.
Here's the HBO segment with DDP, Scott Hall, and Jake "The Snake" Roberts. How cool is it that wrestling is being profiled on HBO? Also, that was some really heavy stuff in places. Interesting stuff from everyone.
Here's part 2 of WWE's story on the history of Daniel Bryan. It's ridiculous to have expected WWE to put Bryan in big feuds or title matches right after his debut. While he obviously knew the ins and outs of a wrestling ring, it took him time to cultivate the intangibles necessary to gain fans who weren't familiar with ROH. It was cool to read his comments on the differences between the indies and WWE, and I'm glad he aspires to make the business so successful. The developmental system in 2000 left a lot to be desired.
For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. As usual, the IWC took something that could have been insightful and turned it into a disrespectful grab for attention through negative comments. The stuff tweeted was funny, but I would have liked the feature to have been used for something more beneficial.
2. It could definitely happen. As for HHH, he came to the conclusion that Orton as Champion was BEST FOR BUSINESS, and Stephanie putting aside her past with Orton fit that explanation, too. Sometimes characters change motivations over time. I know; shocking, right?
Nothing to add to 3, although that sounds clever.
4. I don't do "best" lists. Suffice to say I've liked a lot of matches, including the three mentioned.
5. That's not a terrible idea, though if they could make more money running, say, Detroit than somewhere on the East Coast on a particular night, that might be the way to go.
More wrestling tomorrow.
