Tyson Kidd worked this weekend's WWE live events, defeating Antonio Cesaro. I bet that was a heck of a match. I'd love to see him come back and team with Gabriel some more. It's not like Gabriel's doing much else. Ideally, one or the other if not both would eventually "break out". Right now, the priority should just be getting them featured and having opportunities to gain experience.
Randy Orton was interviewed about topics both professional and personal ahead of Night of Champions. I'm glad that he's matured, and I hope that we don't hear of any more problems from here.
DDP and Jake "The Snake" Roberts did an "Odd Couple" video for DDP TV. Kind of spooky to see Jake in a Charlie Manson shirt.
Everything else from yesterday is after the break.
Darren Young was on Ellen, for premiere week no less. Kind of weird to see him go by his "real name" and talk about himself vs. his character, but I'm happy for him for finding happiness in his life by coming out. The bottom line to me is that he's in a relationship with someone who makes him happy.
Mr. Anderson's TNA contract is scheduled to expire sometime within the next month, hence the brutal beating at No Surrender to write him off if the two sides don't come to a deal. That was an awesome write-off if he's truly done. If he comes back (he should at least take some time off to sell that huge beating), he's positioned as a sympathetic figure after one serious ass-kicking.
Jeremy Borash talked ahead of No Surrender. I had to listen to John Boy and Billy a lot on the rides to middle and high school. Let's just say that they're not my favorite voices to listen to. But it's great that TNA gets publicity from them.
Stephanie McMahon invited Dusty Rhodes to Raw, if ya will. That could be a really good segment. Dusty's got a real passion for the business and it always comes across in his promos.
Here's a preview for a Matt Striker shoot interview. I bet he's got a lot of good stories. A true student of the game. I liked his Johnny Ace (Laurinaitis) impersonation.
For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Yeah, that's a pretty harsh comparison for Bryan. I mostly agree with their opinion of the difference between Bryan and Cena. I think some of it is also that Bryan is seen as a better wrestler by the IWC, though I'm sure if he continues to be a main event presence in the years to come, he'll face the same criticisms that Cena does (rightly or wrongly). It's like fans want wrestlers to be successful, but not TOO successful.
2. Considering the angle's going quite well, I don't see how it needs to be "salvaged". It's still in its early stages and it wouldn't be hard at all for performers like Show, Cody and Bryan to persevere at the end. I hope WWE keeps the current reaction to this angle in mind next time people complain that heels never get to look strong anymore and it's always seen as inevitable that the babyfaces will prevail. Anyway, I'd have HHH's group continue to reign supreme, but eventually there are cracks in the armor and performers start to break through (winning some titles in the process). I personally think that a great end game would be HHH continuing to screw Bryan out of the Title and throwing everything at him, maybe even throwing Orton under a bus in the process (say, Orton almost loses the Title and HHH does something to put it on himself because he's egotistical enough to believe that HE'S best for business). The end of the angle could be HHH finally at wit's end facing off with Bryan at WM30 after Bryan wins the Rumble and/or Elimination Chamber. Bryan makes HHH tap in New Orleans in the main event and the torch is truly passed. If done right, I think that could be a pretty big angle. HHH can still "go" and still has a lot of name value, so I don't mind him being the WWE Champion for a fairly short time since if done right it would be a true WrestleMania moment for Bryan to make a legend tap after everything thrown at him. Cena can face Orton, I guess? Who knows what would come up between now and Mania.
3. The Miz namedropped him in a promo not too awful long ago. They've got to put him in at some point, right?
4. JR and Heyman definitely. I liked various incarnations of the ECW on SyFy crew (minus Mike Adamle) as well. Basically any number of teams that actually put the product and performers over instead of wise-cracking the whole time.
Nothing to add to 5.
