TNA had originally scheduled Bully Ray vs. AJ Styles for the TNA World Championship for this weekend's live events. They then remembered the storyline where AJ can't go for the Title until Bound For Glory and switched things up: AJ Styles fought Chris Sabin while Bully Ray successfully defended his championship against Magnus.
Here's the poster for Hell in a Cell. Didn't expect R-Truth to be on there. I guess they got tired of posters with Orton, Bryan, etc.. With Cena and Sheamus out, they have to make other decisions.
Commercials are now running for John Cena on the Fruity Pebbles box.
Everything else from yesterday is after the break.
William Regal spoke highly of his weekend at PWG. I wonder if/when we'll see some of those talents in WWE/NXT.
Here's a review of George Steele's autobiography. Sounds like an enjoyable read.
Mark Henry hurt his knee at a WWE live event. It took him some time to get up after a run-in gone wrong.
Henry (major) injury history:
1996-1997: Henry misses over a year due to injuries shortly after his WWE debut.
2002-2003: another injury needing recovery time
2004-2005: Henry misses almost a year due to a quadriceps injury
2006-2007: bad patella injury has Henry out for 7 months
2012-2013: another major injury keeps Henry out from May to February
2013: More injuries keep Henry off TV for a month (leading to the fake retirement angle).
I've really enjoyed Henry's work these last couple of years and hope he can continue to contribute in a meaningful way, but these injuries are really adding up. He can't keep going forever.
Update: the belief is that it's some sort of hamstring injury and he might be able to work through it. Time will tell.
Update: Henry was pulled from last night's live event and will soon be undergoing an MRI to determine the extent of his injury (and how much time, if any, he'll miss).
For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. As much as Bryan being an "indie darling" is part of his persona, I absolutely think if they're going to do a Punk-like DVD on him, they'll go that route. That could be great.
2. If there's one thing that Bischoff knows how to do, it's rustle jimmies. He's an expert at turning things around to his favor, making publicity, etc.. There's a reason that some call him Sleazy E.
3. Yeah, they could easily give him a name with those initials. Cue the wacky NXT name generator. Abraham Johnston? Alex James? I also like the idea of him being another of AJ Lee's male victims. A team of Big E and whatever they'd call Styles would be cool. I think that would be beneficial for everyone involved given Styles' experience.
4. I heard the theory recently that they give dopey names to talents they're not 100% sold on yet, and then when the talent shows potential for a better gimmick, they'll do something new with them. Like Duke Rotundo becoming Husky Harris and the Bray Wyatt or Mike Dalton becoming Tyler Breeze. Someone like Sami Callihan they're more sure of, so he gets a better name right off the bat. I'd hate for them to waste a good name on a talent only for them to disappear within a few months. It'd be weird for someone new to come in with a name that previously belonged to someone else in developmental.
5. Sometimes when you have two experienced pros with freedom, great things happen! Not all the time, though. I don't think they need to 100% get rid of agents.
More wrestling tomorrow.
