NXT and CWC Reax - 7/20/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's NXT and CWC.

NXT:
- Joe vs. Rhyno:
I'm very surprised they're starting off with this match. They must have something important in mind for later to play off the result of this (Joe's next title challenger).

I love me a hossfest. Good shoulderblocks spot.

I really hope Rhyno's political opponent in Michigan makes a bunch of forced references to the former ECW Champion's wrestling career. "My opponent would gore small businesses," etc.

That was a good enough battle of power between two former World Champions in TNA. Rhyno's still got some level of gas in the tank.

As much as I like Asuka in the ring, she's got a long way to go in cutting a good English promo. It's not easy learning a language at 34 and changing your way of speaking.

I'd be grateful to get away from those two mastadons. Talk about a wall of humanity.

- A. Alpha vs. Authors:
Oh, I'm loving the foreign colossi already. Time to watch people get wrecked.

Speed and technique vs. size and power is generally a pretty fun story, as we're seeing here.

Smackdown's about to get a lot of suplexes.

Now, THAT'S how you do a giant swing.

Big moment for Team Mastadon. I'm excited to see how they progress.

I love The Revival taking credit for the former champs being destroyed by the Authors.

That was good from Gargano and Ciampa. They're better when Johnny's the jovial, talkative one and Ciampa's the barely contained psychopath.

OH MY GOD I AM SO READY FOR KICKMAN TO RETURN.

- Aries vs. Clark:
How did Aries not get picked in the draft?

Patrick would fit right in with Backlund and Darren with that outfit.

Aries was really impressive; that was a fine showing by Patrick in his first TV appearance.

I'm glad Jose can show fire, too. With his size, he can be a feared competitor.

- Bayley vs. Nia:
I like this matchup. Bayley's resourceful, and Nia's like a runaway freight train.

Bayley just getting ragdolled here.

I like Bayley making the most of her size, flying at Nia to try to get her off her feat.

Good for both women to make the most of their surroundings, like the steps and ropes.

Bayley will never say die, but Nia's a tough mountain to climb.

I was kind of hoping the Jax-hammer would be the ending. That's a good finisher for Nia.

That was a great ending. Nia not going for the kill with the legdrop really cost her.

CWC:
- Tajiri vs. D. Slater:
Good wrestling background from Slater.

You can't teach experience. Tajiri's technical abilities and ring smarts are on display.

Slater's athletic, but really lacking in flavor. He might want to tryout for ROH after this.

That was mostly good. Tajiri's not the competitor he used to be.

Perkins definitely has confidence as a personality. He's got the experience to make a splash in NXT or the Cruiserweight division.

Da Mack's got some personality on display. A little tentative, but there might be potential.

- TJP vs. Mack:
Perkins is ridiculously smooth and agile. Mack's got some good personality with his moves as well.

I hate the "switch between flashy submissions" spot.

Oh, Mack definitely gets marks for personality. He could team with No Way Jose and Rich Swann easily.

TJP's just ridiculously ready for this stage. Mack's not far behind him, which is saying something.

Nice showcase. Perkins is ready for NXT TV, and Da Mack could definitely work NXT live events at this stage.

- Ali vs. Dorado:
Mustafa's already over with me for bringing aggression to a flippy babyface.

Aaaaaaaand here's your stereotypical cruiserweight action.

Lince can do some pretty good flips.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT. Crazy, crazy moves from both sides.

Fun from a stunt perspective.

- Tozawa vs. Johnson:
Good for Kenneth for overcoming stuttering, and busting his ass to get here.

I'm loving the chain wrestling early. It's a nice change from the previous match. Tozawa in particular clearly has a strong base in that area.

Akira's definitely got experience, but Kenneth is showing an impressive base as a wrestler.

Tozawa has great speed, and Johnson's making a nice showing in that department, there.

That was a nice showing by both men. Good picks by WWE for this series.

More wrestling coming up.
