Superstars Reax - 7/9/16, NXT+ROH+WWE live event notes, Moose leaves ROH, WWE press, Raw taping set, Impact getting an overrun, ROH name gets stitches, and Questions on '80s WWF drug testing, Almas, Reigns keeping his spot, and Spiros Gekko

Superstars:
A rare heels vs. heels match.

- S. Stars vs. Breezango:
I'm liking the pairing of Breeze and Fandango.

My perspective of the Stars is pretty much formed from having seen them in other gimmicks. It's hard to view them in a fresh light.

Not bad overall.

There's not much reason to boo Epico and Primo. It'd be different if they heeled the crowd about Puerto Rico's debt or something.

- Ascension vs. Usos:
Remember when the Ascension were NXT Tag Team Champions for a full year? Now they're lucky to be above the team of Corey Hollis and John Skyler.

I like both these teams and their work.

I missed Konnor and Viktor working together. Viktor was fun as a singles star for two months, but he works better in tandem with Konnor.

Man, we almost saw The Ascension hit their finisher. That's rarer than seeing a four-leaf clover while being struck by lightning.

That was pretty fun. I liked the story told.

**************************NEWS BEGINS AFTER THIS LINE***********************

At another NXT live event in Florida this weekend:
- Blake and Murphy worked singles matches. I assume they're broken up "for real" now after a brief teaming in order to be Gore victims on the most recent NXT.

- Hideo Itami worked another tag match. It definitely sounds like he'll be ready in time for Back to Brooklyn. Itami vs. Balor would be a good exit match for Finn.

At an ROH live event in Maryland:
- Joey Daddiego beat Chase Brown. Brown has made a few appearances for ROH in the last year or so, but, at this point, I wouldn't assume he's going to get a regular role.

- Shaheem Ali lost in a tag match to War Machine. Having appeared in the top prospect tournament and a few appearances since then, he's clearly on ROH's radar.

- A marriage proposal was given and accepted during intermission.

- Moose lost to Daniels, then bowed to the audience in his last ROH appearance.

At a WWE live event in Ontario:
- Bob Backlund was not in Darren Young's corner as he worked against Miz and Maryse. I do expect we'll see Backlund on TV once they kick off the next stage of Young's career.

- Natalya worked as a face, losing to Charlotte in a Women's Title match.

Moose has confirmed his departure from ROH. The stars could very well align for him to appear at Destination X. TNA is willing to pay him more and use him in a bigger role than ROH, so it looks like a sound decision on that end. I hope that's the case. TNA could use another important wrestler who can go after so many departures. They only have so many potential matchups. As for ROH, they're losing a rising star who really stood out from the pack in terms of his style. They could really use more people who can bring a variety to their roster.

Heath Slater got press for helping flood victims in WV. He's just ONE MAAAAAAAAAN, but that doesn't mean his help wasn't appreciated. Shoutout to Heath for giving back.

WWE will tape Raw in Kansas City, Missouri on September 5. While I don't know of a Missouri City in Kansas, there is one in Texas.

Alberto Del Rio was in India as part of promotion for WWE 2K17. Lots of perros in a big country like India.

The July 21 episode of Impact Wrestling (the first Thursday episode on Pop) will run around an extra ten minutes and include an extended version of Final Deletion (presumably the director's cut). Destination X and that episode will be pretty important as they move to a new night.

Chris Sabin needed stitches above his eye following an accidental Mark Briscoe headbutt. Ouch.

ROH had around 700 fans for their Women of Honor show and around 1,000 for the main ROH show after that.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. WWE's drug testing definitely wasn't at the level it is today.

2. Very talented athlete, but his gimmick doesn't really click. It doesn't help that they're pushing him pretty hard despite not cutting promos in English. The NXT fans really like Tye Dillinger now, so it did him no favors to go over the cult favorite. Almas definitely needs more of a character beyond "lucha guy who wears breakaway pants with suspenders" if he's going to succeed as a face.

3. Whoa whoa whoa. The proper punishment is a 30-day suspension. He'll have served that by the time Battleground comes around. They've put in a lot of work to make Reigns "the guy," and they're not going to move him out of the main event scene so soon after being WWE Champion. Burying a guy they've built up so much would be cutting off their nose to spit their face.

Nothing to add to 4.

5. Most of his wrestling career was before ECW. Some people just don't work out in the wrestling business long-term, and he was one of them.

More wrestling tomorrow.
