Main Event Reax - 5/14/17, why Rock wasn't at Mania, NWA purchase official, UK guests working NXT, new ROH signing, surprise ROH debut, and Questions on kicking out of finishers, Network music rights, GFW titles on Impact, and bringing back KOTR

-- Main Event:
- Hawkins vs. Black:
A pleasant surprise seeing Aleister here. I hope he's able to live up to his potential. He's been impressive so far.

Hawkins is good at working with people who are still getting acclimated to WWE.

I like Black. He stands out significantly.

Black's already pretty smooth. That's good.

Nice one. Curt's a trooper with all these jobs.

- Noam vs. Metalik:
Oh look it's this match again. I'm begging for a Smackdown undercard match every once in a while.

I love Noam's technical abilities.

Gran's effective at what he does.

This is fun.

Noam's already in a pretty high league.

Hey, Gran's earned his reputation, too.

Two styles meshing in a good way here.

Hahaha nice fakeout with Dar getting out of the ring.

NICE counter to the big splash.

That was pretty nice.

The Rock missed Wrestlemania because of work on his HBO show. He's got quite the busy schedule. I'm sure we'll see him back on WWE TV at some point, but he has other priorities.

Billy Corgan has officially purchased the NWA, getting rights to all the promotion's trademarks and championships. Corgan has also purchased the rights to the NWA On Demand service. Some expect a show to be made on historical content of the promotion. Nothing major is going to change in the near future with Corgan at the helm; he's planning long-term.

Jack Gallagher, Wolfgang, Pete Dunne, Trent Seven, and Tyson T-Bone are all booked for NXT's UK events in early June. The UK signings are going to get some pretty regular work for WWE it looks like.

ROH has signed Flip/Travis Gordon. He worked the April TV taping, and I imagine he'll be back for the next TV taping.

Simon Grimm, formerly Simon Gotch, was backstage at ROH's TV taping this weekend. So, it's possible he'll be joining the company soon.

Chuck Taylor made a surprise debut for ROH as a partner for Roppongi Vice. He and Beretta have teamed a lot outside of the company, so they're continuing their relationship. I look forward to seeing how he does there.

Randy Orton buried the indie style, retweeting a critique posted by Rip Rogers and pointing out his own success. He also buried Bully Ray, which was also great. Randy just became one of my favorite people in the business for standing up to the hivemind of the vocal minority.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. It depends on the case. Here and there, a big finisher kickout really means something for the competitor kicking out. But if everyone kicks out of two Attitude Adjustments, it must not be that devastating of a move, right?

2. That's probably it. All those rights issues are quite a hassle. That's why they go with Jim Johnston and CFO$ to do songs they'll own themselves. It's much less of a headache.

3. I haven't seen enough of him to make a judgment.

4. I do think they have too many titles for all of them to get the focus they should. The roster's not big enough for GFW titles and Impact titles. I think the goal is to combine all the titles, as we see LAX going for the GFW tag team titles and Alberto, the GFW champion, challenging Lashley for the Impact World Title. I assume after Slammiversary, that will be done and Mathews will be gone, too. I can't say I fault them for trying to make Slammiversary as big of an event as they can as far as all that goes.

5. If it's something including Raw and Smackdown, MAYBE. They'd have to really make it mean something, though. The "King _______" gimmick with the scepter and robe has gotten pretty tired and doesn't really mean anything on its own. Ideally instead of bringing up another honor, they'd make the Andre trophy mean something more than it currently does.

More wrestling tomorrow.
