2012 predictions for the WWE and TNA rosters

As we head towards a new year in wrestling, I thought it would be appropriate to forecast the year ahead. Wrestling is notoriously unpredictable, so this could be insanely wrong. But that's part of the fun! So, in alphabetical order, here's what I think will come for the Superstars, Divas, Knockouts, Rookies, (some) developmental talents, and other on-screen talents in 2012. Keep in mind that these are more gut feelings based on where the talents are now than anything else.

12/29 house show notes for WWE and TNA, WWE's 2012 PPV schedule, Questions on John Morrison, World Champions, and TNA/Universal, Stephanie fitness interview, and a holiday message from Kharma

Nothing all that new to say on the WWE house show front: Seth Rollins once again beat Tyson Kidd, and Mark Henry worked another limited cage match. Booker T. lost to Cody Rhodes again, too.

As for TNA's house shows: Garett Bischoff is working them as a wrestler, so it seems like they're continuing with that idea. A local DJ was at the Albany, NY show. Good to cross-promote whenever possible.

WWE has revealed its 2012 PPV schedule. Once more, there are 13 of them. Some will have three weeks' worth of build. Also, Bragging Rights will return to replace Capitol Punishment. At a time when there's such a loose split between Raw and Smackdown, it seems a little ridiculous to bring that idea back. But maybe they'll make the two brands separate and meaningful again between now and June?

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and notes, starting with my independent take on  PWInsider.com's questions.

Smackdown thoughts- 12/30/11

It's Week 2 of Daniel Bryan's World Heavyweight Championship reign. Who will be his first official challenger? How long can the dream last? While we're waiting on answers to that, Randy Orton will face off against the Barrett Barrage as the former Nexus leader looks to survive Falls Count Anywhere! Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Thursday, December 29, 2011

Layla appearing for FCW, Angle to work for TNA for free?, Henry interview and update, Rollins works Smackdown house show, Questions on Angle in the bar, Hornswoggle, Batista, and contracts, Toxxin update, false Hardy rumor, Punk writing a comic?, Smackdown house show change, more of new live event set, Duggan autobiography due next year, WWE signs CZW student, Lashley interested in WWE return, Orton update, and a new match made for Genesis

Layla will be a part of autograph sessions/meet and greet sessions before FCW shows in January. Still waiting on word for when she'll be back in the ring, but apparently it's on the "sooner" side of the sooner/later equation.

Kurt Angle gave another fun interview before a TNA house show, in which he claimed that he'd work a year with TNA for free if he doesn't reach a certain number of appearances with them because of his Olympic training. He's either extremely dedicated or off his rocker. Either way, he's a very driven man and workaholic.

Mark Henry gave an interview about an upcoming Smackdown house show, presumably conducted before his recent injury. I can appreciate the old-school keeping of kayfabe.

Update: He worked the main event of that house show against Big Show and Dainel Bryan in a triple-threat cage match, but reportedly showed signs of his injury. Not sure what that means for his future and what his condition is.

Seth Rollins defeated Tyson Kidd on the 12/28 Smackdown house show. Looking forward to seeing this guy on one of the main shows.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news, beginning with a look at PWInsider.com's questions.

Superstars and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 12/29/11

Today on WWE Superstars, Alex Riley takes on JTG in the main event. Riley was once aligned with, then facing off against former WrestleMania main eventer and WWE Champion The Miz. JTG was a member of the incredibly fun and over Cryme Tyme. Now, both men are on a web show that not many pay attention to. Following wrestling can be frustrating sometimes... Tonight on Impact Wrestling, it's a battler of former WWE and TNA World Champions as Kurt Angle takes on Rob Van Dam. Round 2 of the Wild Card tag team tournament is under way with Samoa Joe/Magnus vs. Eric Young/ODB and Scott Steiner/Abyss vs. AJ Styles/Kazarian. Also, Gail Kim defends her Knockouts Championship against Mickie James. Read on for my thoughts on the shows as they happen.

NXT thoughts- 12/28/11

This week on NXT, the competition hits... week 43 I think? I've kind of lost track. Either way, Titus O'Neil, Derrick Bateman, and Darren Young are all continuing their trials and tribulations on the way to trying to become the next WWE breakout star. Who will get closer to that lofty goal? In today's main event, NXT Season 4 winner Johnny Curtis comes to blows with his former best friend, Derrick Bateman. Can you say grudge match? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Rap star at Raw house show, Orton injured, Cena puts Punk over, WWE debuts new house show set, Hall episode of E:60 nomiated for award, WWE magazine on iPad, more on Ryder/Eve, Lesnar talks WWE '12, Hardy out of rehab, Miz heels Pittsburgh, Raw rating, and the FCW Champion works another house show

DMC of Run DMC fame was at Raw's house show at MSG. Zack Ryder's father and the Big O were also in attendance.

Randy Orton was injured at the 12/27 Smackdown taping, relating to at least one of the discs in his back. As one of the top stars in the company, this could be a very sizable blow to them. Hopefully it's nothing too severe.

Update: Sheamus will be taking his place in the co-main events of Smackdown house shows. I think he's the best choice to do so. Very talented performer. That being said, as many years as Orton has been featured as an important character/main eventer, there's no easy replacement for him.

Update: He's been dealing with issues there for a while now (in recent weeks), so it was deemed necessary to work that into storylines. That MIGHT be a sign that it isn't too bad, but I wouldn't let my guard down just yet.

Update: Wade Barrett cut a promo in-character at a Smackdown house show claiming that he had taken Orton out for 6 months. However, no firm timeframe has been set of yet. Refunds were made available for fans who came to see Orton. Tough break for the company all in all.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news. Next up, what did John Cena say about C.M. Punk?

Update on WWE trademark, Questions on Swagger, Ricky Ortiz, Show turning heel, and Brodus Clay, Regal update, Impact Wrestling preview/rating for last week's, change of plans with FCW talent working main roster, Iron profiled again, WWE releases HBK eBook, Punk talks Raw, HBK answers fan questions, new JR blog, Punk almost refused entry at MSG, pre-Smackdown dark match, Smackdown rating, Morgan's father passes from cancer, and the FCW Champion works Raw at MSG

To follow up on a recent story, WWE didn't file to trademark "WrestleFest" in order to use it for a theoretical upcoming video game. Instead, they're looking to prevent an outside party from using that name. A cease-and-desist notice was put out in accordance with this.

As for my look at PWInsider.com's Tuesday questions:
1. I agree that Swagger has a HUGE upside as an in-ring competitor. At 29, his best days are hopefully ahead of him. I don't remember the last time he got to pull it out, but his finisher is Williams' Doctor Bomb. If he continues to grow as a competitor (which requires him to continue to get ring and promo time), we could be seeing some really great performances. They've hinted at a face turn lately, so maybe he'll break from the pack and get to do that kind of thing.

2. I haven't heard anything on him in quite some time, outside of being a part of the Urban Wrestling Federation. I'd be interested in seeing how far he's come since his WWE stint. Unfortunately there are only so many spots in either company, and second chances can be rare.

3 was just answered the other day, so I'll move to 4 after the break: Is Big Show going to turn heel?

Tuesday, December 27, 2011

Savage remembered on Christmas, Jericho's tired of WWE questions, Tomko update, Questions on a mole in ECW, the WWE Network going overseas, a Cena shirt idea, Lilian Garcia, and no-compete clauses, Edge update, Before the Bell for Genesis, more Questions on Miz Girl, Punk vs. Bryan, turning Cena heel, and Samoans, TNA tryouts, Nash update, Waltman addresses arrest, WWE trademarks old video game name, WWE's top 25 matches of 2011, indie promotion gives child Christmas presents, ads for TNA's Indian promotion, more on Del Rio's injury, signs confiscated,Raw dark match, last 1/2/12 video, and what happened after Raw

Randy Savage's brother, Lanny Poffo, read a poem remembering the Macho Man on Christmas. Touching.

Chris Jericho says that he's done answering wrestling-related questions. The "is he or isn't he?" game continues. Some are speculating that he could return under a new name and/or gimmick, as the latest 1/2/12 video featured a notebook with the name Chris marked out on the cover. Very curious...

The St. Augustine Record has a story on the progress of Tomko following his arrest in October. Glad things are going well and hope they continue to do so.

Up next, my look at today's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Wow. That's one of the craziest backstage stories I've ever heard. We need a Paul Heyman documentary to accompany his upcoming autobiography (which doesn't have a firm release date yet).

2. One step at a time! They're still in the planning and filming stages. I think they'll test the waters in the States first, then look internationally. If it's a smash hit here (which is by no means a sure thing), I'd imagine they'd be more likely to try to get international deals for it.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions. Next up, evaluations of Lilian Garcia as a ring announcer.

Raw thoughts- 12/26/11

Tonight, C.M. Punk returns to his hometown of Chicago for the first time since becoming WWE Champion. As 2011 comes to a close, what will the Straight-Edge Sensation have in store for the WWE Universe? Also, the demented Kane continues his war with John Cena. All this and plenty more tonight on Raw. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Query on Homicide-WWE, lien placed on John Cena's house, Swagger Q&A, Questions on WWE getting behind Daniel Bryan, Roode or Bryan dropping the title first, WWE losing viewers, and the WWE Network

Sunday's news started off with a query. It's one I've gotten before, but I think enough time has passed that I can re-examine it:
1. I don't recall ever seeing anything concrete about Homicide going to WWE, though he was said to be open to it in the past. I'm not sure what his contract status is as regards to the UWF, so it might not even be in the realm of possibility at the moment. If I see anything new about one side being interested in working with the other, I'll be sure to report it. I think he could do good things in the company.

A Florida roofing company has obtained a lien against John Cena's house in Florida after allegations that he didn't pay over $15,000. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt here until more comes out about the story.

Jack Swagger answered some fans' questions (in-character?). Not bad. I always thought he was underrated as a character. This did sound kind of rehearsed, though.

After the break, I look at PWInsider.com's Christmas Day questions. First up, will WWE get behind Daniel Bryan as World Champion?

Chris Hero update and Questions on Eden Stiles, Tamina, Alicia vs. Beth, and Christian

Chris Hero made a special appearance at ROH's Final Battle 2011, and has an open door to work for them in the future. However, he has not signed back with them and it's still entirely possible that he ends up in WWE.

PWInsider.com had some Christmas Eve questions to look at:
1. Let's take this one step at a time here. As it relates to contracts and the like, WWE and FCW are pretty much the same thing. In other words, if you're working for both of them (like a number of people on the current roster who are still training), and you're released, you're gone from both of them. FCW is under the WWE banner if that makes sense. She COULD return there to train if she wanted to, but only if she signed a new contract (and I don't see that happening). I don't think she ever had any intention to wrestle.

2. Tamina has been on NXT as JTG's girlfriend, and I think she was in the Mistletoe On A Pole match, too. Creative's just more focused on the Divas of Doom angle at the moment.

After the break, I'll go into the rest of the day's questions. Due to the holiday, there wasn't much news. Next up, an update on Beth Phoenix after being hurt by Alicia Fox.

Smackdown thoughts- 12/23/11

Last Sunday, the World's Largest Athlete faced off with the World's Strongest Man in a Chairs match. It was complete chaos, and once the dust had settled, we had a new World Heavyweight Champion. And it was... Daniel Bryan!? That's right, Bryan cashed in with Money In The Bank, and the men who had just clashed aren't happy about it. Mark Henry, Big Show, and the American Dragon are all in attendance tonight. How will things stand after the first Smackdown following TLC? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Query on Hunico's bodyguard, Z! TLIS #45, Hogan's game earns "worst of" award, another legend for WWE Network, MidCard Mafia videos marked private, WWE intern talks about experience, Questions on Punk being hypocritical, Divas, and Jesse Neal, Impact Wrestling preview, wrestlers' yearbook photos, Del Rio pulled from next week's shows, Summerslam travel packages, Waltman arrested, and a Punk interview

Talk about timing. Someone asked who accompanied Hunico on WWE Superstars. I haven't seen an official spelling on his name yet, but in FCW he went by the name of Donny Marlow. He's the son of Haku/Meng the Barbarian. Hopefully we get more info on his character soon.

Zack Ryder, the new United States Champion, posted episode #45 of Z! True Long Island Story. Crowning Moment of Heartwarming! Great stuff with the cameos and crowd interactions. The Santa stuff was great as well. I actually used to have a Talkboy. This would be much better on Impact Wrestling each week than Eric Young's skits.

Hulk Hogan's game for the Xbox 360 Kinect earned the Official Xbox Magazine's "Worst Game of the Year" award. That'll go nicely with his "Worst PPV Main Event of the Year" award for his match with Sting.

Dusty Rhodes is the next name to have something filmed for WWE Network.

Tyler Reks and Curt Hawkins' MidCard Mafia videos have been marked as private on YouTube. No word on why yet.

A former WWE intern talked about his experience with the company. Good little stories. I like his writing style.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news, starting with my take on PWInsider.com's questions. First up, a likely spoiler-related question about a returning superstar.

Shaq vs. Big Show in the works?, Hogan on TMZ, Legends working house shows, Miz puts fantasy football skills to the test, Stephanie McMahon on USO Board, JR talks, Ricardo sells injury, Mark Henry update, WWE talks up Mashable wins, udpate on big Mania match plan involving Hall of Famer, Punk and Foley talk, JR's wish list, and new matches for Genesis

Shaquille O'Neal is in talks with WWE to face Big Show in Miami for WrestleMania 28, as confirmed on the Abe Kanan Show. I'd be down with that. I'd much rather see Show compete in that kind of thing at this stage of his career.

TMZ caught up with Hulk Hogan (and Dennis Haskins of "Saved by the Bell" fame) at an airport recently. Slow news day!

Next week's WWE house shows will feature Jerry Lawler and Booker T. in action, as well as Mick Foley as a guest host. I hope that does good business for them and helps along the careers of the talented younger performers.

The Miz is part of a fantasy football challenge.

Stephanie McMahon has been voted on to the USO's Board of Directors. That's pretty cool.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news. Up next, JR has an interview.

Superstars and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 12/22/11

This week on WWE Superstars, the tag team division continues to heat up. Air Boom will test their mettle against Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks. Then, on Impact Wrestling, Sting will address the actions of the nefarious TNA Champion, Bobby Roode. Meanwhile, #1 Contender Jeff Hardy continues on his path to Genesis. The Knockouts Division is due for a re-examining after last week's firing of Karen Jarrett, and Tony Nese will look to get back into things against Zema Ion as both men have their sights on the X-Division Title. Also, the Wild Card tournament continues to see who will face off with Matt Morgan and Crimson for the tag team gold. It should be good. Read on for my thoughts on the shows as they happen.

Wrestling titles on Netflix updates, new WWE trademark, possible spoiler for Cena vs. Kane, update on potential Diva heel turn, when R-Truth will return, Rollins update, more on HoF, ring announcer leaves WWE, long-term WWE Network plans and show ideas, WWE reaching out for Network hire, Questions on Adam Pearce, Taker/Kane/HHH, a DX Hall of Fame, Hogan at WMX8, and blood/Benoit on the WWE Network, Goldust upsets WWE, Christian update, more on TNA's Indian venture, Layla soon to return?, WWE CFO speaks, press release for WWE in Russia, and Kamala facing another amputation

For you Netflix fanatics, here's an updated list of wrestling-related titles available on the service.

WWE has registered to trademark the phrase "Fear My Name", which is speculated to be a catchphrase for a new or existing character. Sounds like it could be a film title, but no confirmation of that.

The next two items are potential spoilers. They might turn out to be nothing, but just in case, I'm blacking them out so those who don't want to see them can skip on.

John Cena vs. Kane is advertised as a WWE Title match for a February house show. I'd assume that could be a mistake unless it appears on more line-ups.

Also, Kaitlyn is teaming with Tamina later this month on a Smackdown house show, so they could be going forward with her turning heel after all. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. If she can work well as a heel and gets to have good matches on TV and the like, I'll be ok with it.

R-Truth will be eligible to return from his suspension on 12/22. I'll be glad to see him back. He's undoubtedly one of the best characters I've seen this year.

Seth Rollins will be touring with the Raw brand all next week. WWE's roster looks like it could end up pretty crowded. Hopefully the cream rises to the top and catches fire with the audience.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and notes, including PWInsider.com's questions. Next up, more on the physical WWE Hall of Fame.

NXT thoughts- 12/21/11

This week on NXT, Titus O'Neil, Derrick Bateman, and Darren Young continue on their paths to becoming WWE's next breakout star. Who will get closer to that goal as the competition reaches week 42? Of course, the show will also feature cameos by other WWE Superstars and Divas. How will that affect things? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Wednesday, December 21, 2011

Del Rio update, pre-Raw dark match, Questions on Neal/Toxxin, WWE Network content, and changing the structure of the brands, WWE going to Russia, Against All Odds poster, Rumble airing in Canadian theaters, 30-man Rumble confirmed, Dreamer on WWE Network, MITB moved to June, USA tops ESPN in Monday ratings, more from JR, Raw rating, Summerslam packages available, and the Smackdown dark match

Alberto Del Rio is believed to be ok following an examination by WWE trainers. Further evaluations could be necessary before it's determined whether or not he's in the clear. I certainly hope he'll be fine. One of my favorite in-ring performers of the year.

Ted DiBiase defeated Dean Ambrose before the Raw taping. It looks like only a matter of time before the former Jon Moxley is on Smackdown, but no guarantees.

On to my look at PWInsider.com's daily questions:
1. According to him, it wasn't an issue of training, but one of a pay cut and having to relocate. I haven't heard any updates on his post-TNA career, nor on his fiancee (Toxxin)'s status in the company. I'd assume she's still there unless a story comes out stating otherwise.

2. No word on that kind of thing yet. So far, they've just been focused on wrestling-related content.

3. That's the first I've heard about changing things in FCW. That's pretty interesting and I think bodes well for the future of the "territory". But no, I don't think they'll show that on WWE Network for the reasons they mentioned. Given how many name and gimmick changes there are there (generally WWE Creative will see something different in a performer and do something different with them once they think of "moving them up", and the seemingly constantly changing roster, that might be for the best. And as they mentioned, some of them probably aren't ready to be shown on such a large scale. That's be rather nerve-wrecking for people with so little experience (generally) I'd imagine.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions. Up next, a pitch for changing the structure of WWE to promote new stars.

Tuesday, December 20, 2011

Why Henry lost the World Title, TLC condition updates on Cena and the main eventers, HBK/Regal/Batista talk about Bryan's title win, Punk talks changes, Questions on planted fans, JoMo in ROH, HHH "ending the streak", and Bischoff/Hogan not being at TNA shows, Sheffield update, Miz interview, Impact Wrestling preview, Rumble commercial, what happened after TLC, MidCard Mafia #3, USA head profiled (with Vince McMahon quotes), Punk ahead of Raw, new WWE merch, Foley talks TLC, Smackdown rating, HBK interview, Physical HoF plans confirmed, WWE wins social media awards, the latest 1/2/12 video, what happened after Raw, more on TNA's India project, and a possible injury at Raw

Mark Henry has been working lately on a badly pulled groin, and will likely need time off. He wasn't featured on the weekend's house shows, and his match with Big Show was relatively short. I wish him a speedy recovery, because the "Hall of Pain" gimmick has been the best stuff I've ever seen from him. Hopefully Daniel Bryan takes the ball and runs with it.

Everyone was thankfully ok after the scary TLC main event, just banged up. They dodged a bullet there.

John Cena was backstage last night, but wasn't used. He wasn't injured. Instead, Creative decided to focus on other performers for the show. Gutsy move, but I don't think the show needed him.

Shawn Michaels commented on his student's World Title win. Truly a magical moment.

Update: Here's footage of the cash-in.

Update: Batista also commented. Ouch. I do think it's a little early for it to happen, but I think it can work if the sailing from here on out is smooth. Interestingly enough that MMA place is pretty close to FCW's main base. I wonder if anyone will take him up on his offer?

Update: William Regal also tweeted about it. He's been very influential on Bryan's career.

Update: Bryan commented on the title win as well.

C.M. Punk also had some tweets about the events of TLC. I'm down with this youth movement.

Update: Champions group photo. Damned solid line-up.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news, including my take on PWInsider.com's questions. Next up, an update on Kevin Nash.

Raw thoughts- 12/19/11

Last night at WWE TLC, C.M. Punk survived a hectic and danger-filled main event to retain his WWE Championship. Also, Triple H felled his nemesis Kevin Nash with a sledgehammer, and a new United States Champion was crowned. Tonight, things pick up where they left off. What will the returning monster Kane have in store for John Cena? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Query on what 2012 will be like for Cena, FCW standout works another house show, Lawler talks art and wrestling, Questions on wrestlers changing looks, WrestleMania VIII, Layla, the Knockouts, and Tebowing, WWE-Chyna rumorkiller, JR talks TLC, Smackdown on Xbox 360, Cena on Fruity Pebbles boxes, TLC dark match, and champs pose with titles

First up for Sunday's news is a query:
1. This is actually a pretty good question. I definitely see Cena continuing to be a big presence in WWE next year, even after his WrestleMania match. He'll almost certainly hold the top title on Raw for part of the year, since that's kind of tradition now. I'd expect him to be in quite a few TV and PPV main events as well, especially as (theoretically) people like HHH, Nash, Taker, Booker, and Rock go back to being less of a focus on the shows. While I expect things to continue to diversify in the main event scene, it's not going to be entirely Cena-less for some time now.

For other news, Dean Ambrose once more faced off with Daniel Bryan on a WWE house show in New York. Still no word on the possibility/timeframe of him making it to the main roster.

Jerry Lawler talked about his art background and how it ties in to wrestling. Interesting little read. Amazing artist.

After the break, I go into my take on PWInsider.com's questions. First up, a look at WWE's policy on tattoos and looks in general.

WWE TLC thoughts

Tonight, Randy Orton takes on Wade Barrett to see who's going through a table, Triple H and Kevin Nash battle over a sledgehammer only reachable by a ladder, Mark Henry clashes with Big Show for the World Title with all chairs legal, and C.M. Punk, The Miz, and Alberto Del Rio collide for the WWE Championship in Tables, Ladders, and Chairs (Oh My!). All this, plus two other title matches. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Sunday, December 18, 2011

WWE TLC preview

Tonight's the final PPV of 2011. With the 4 top titles in WWE on the line and some grudge matches thrown in for good measure, it's safe to say that what happens at TLC will have a big impact on 2012. Read on for how I'd book the card.

WWE sells cameraman injury, Booker T and Foley interviews, Kane attacks Cena at house show, Cena not at TLC, Questions on Cena/Kane, and the WWE Network, another FCW standout gets a tryout, identity of Hunico's bodyguard, Tough Enough alumna joins FCW, Knockout in India, Styes in Mexico, Foley and Vickie interviews, and WWE debuts a Cena Sucks shirt

WWE has posted a video with one of their doctors stating that the cameraman hit by Mark Henry on Smackdown will be out for a number of months. I like it.

Booker T. talked about his match with Cody Rhodes and more. Good read. He seems like a pretty smart guy. I'm actually a little surprised that it might be his last match. I figured we'd at least get a decent-sized feud out of it, if not a bigger return.

Mick Foley talked about a number of Tribute to the Troops items. Also a good read.

Kane attacked John Cena at a house show in Florida, but Cena prevailed.

Speaking of Cena, he's made it pretty clear that he won't be at TLC. We'll see. I'll be rather surprised if he doesn't appear on the show at all.

Further speaking of Cena, he's the subject of the first PWInsider.com question for Saturday. After the break, I give  my take on all of them:

Saturday, December 17, 2011

Queries on Shane McMahon and WWE buying TNA, Impact Wrestling post-show, Z! TLIS #44, Batista talks PG WWE, top FCW star getting called up?, Questions on Tessmacher, an anti-PG rant, Toxxin, and Punk, Jericho-WWE and Melina-TNA updates, Foley added to house shows, one more match for Chyna?, Cena not at TLC?, and the Impact Wrestling rating

Friday's news begins with a couple of queries:
1. No, the videos that have been appearing on WWE shows (and YouTube) lately aren't leading to the return of Shane McMahon. If current talk is to be believed, they're for (spoilers!) Chris Jericho. Of course, things can change, but it looks like the videos are just red herrings to get people talking. It's obviously working!

2. I don't think WWE will buy TNA in 2012. I honestly don't even know if the owners would be willing to sell. I'm not completely sure who would make that decision: Panda Energy appointed Dixie as president, so it might be their call. Jeff Jarrett owns a minority stake in the company, and I don't picture WWE doing business with him.

Here's the post-show for Impact Wrestling.

And here's episode #44 of Z! True Long Island Story. He's still got it. Funny stuff as always, and the TLC hype was pretty well-done. More people need to take the bull by the horns like this.

Batista gave more outspoken thoughts on the PG direction of WWE. I can certainly see his argument, though today it isn't as much about "kicking ass" as winning matches by hook or by crook. There are still some people who look like they could destroy someone (Brodus Clay, Mason Ryan, Sheamus), but in general wrestlers aren't as huge and intimidating as they used to be for whatever reason.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news, and PWInsider.com's questions. First up, a top FCW prospect is going on the road for WWE.

Smackdown thoughts- 12/16/11 (with in-attendance notes)

TLC is this Sunday. Mark Henry, Big Show, Randy Orton, Wade Barrett, Cody Rhodes, Booker T, Zak ck Ryder, and Dolph Ziggler are all here as they prepare for the final PPV of the year. How will things stand before the big gimmick-filled event? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens, with my thoughts from attending in-person in parentheses.

Why the Jarretts were "fired", Ryder at Foley show, Questions on TNA heel turns, Cena, and Melina, more Tribute notes, Maria interview, Kane added to house shows (on Raw brand), Punk/Rock make "guys we wish we were" list, Ryder talks 2011, more TNA and former WWE names confirmed for India, Austin lays down condition for theoretical return match, Hart interview, Miz on USA show, TNA developmental talent debuts in OVW, celebrity at FCW, and Dixie talks Jarrett firings

Jeff Jarrett was written out of TNA storylines so he can head their new Indian venture (which will require a number of trips there). He's also working on TNA's All Wheels Wrestling project. He's got a good deal on his plate, so I think they made the right move here.

Zack Ryder appeared at Mick Foley's comedy show in (where else?) Long Island.

PWInsider.com has some new questions up. Here's my take on them:
1 and 2 are pretty straightforward. If a decision is reversed, it's effectively erased from the record books. I would argue that if you win the title, you're champion for however long it is until they reverse the decision, but officially it's considered to have never happened.

3. I remember that a number of those turns were head-scratchers when they happened, so I wouldn't say it was all predictable. Either way, I agree that the Creative end of the company has been really lacking these past two years. BUT I will give them credit for the last 2 months or so (post-BFG) being a lot more focused and coherent. Unsurprisingly, that timeframe coincides with a change in who's heading up the Creative team (which I doubt Hogan and Bischoff had anything to do with).

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's questions and news, starting with Cena heel turn question #9007.

Superstars (with partial in-attendance notes) and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 12/15/11

Today on WWE Superstars, The Tag Team Champions are back in action as they take on the new tag team of Epico and Primo. Will the Colons be able to defeat Air Boom? Then, on Impact Wrestling, Bobby Roode and AJ Styles get another five minutes to settle their unfinished business from Final Resolution. Who will walk out as the TNA World Champion? The next #1 Contender is Jeff Hardy, and tonight he faces Immortal's Bully Ray. Plus, a tournament begins to see who's next in line to take on Matt Morgan and Crimson. All this and more, plus one of the Jarretts is getting fired! Read on for my thoughts on the shows as they happen.

New additions to FCW, Questions on Tough Enough, suggestions for improving ratings, Vader in the HoF, and finishers, new WWE marketing exec, Neal leaving TNA, Diva turns down Slammy appearance, big Mania match in the works, Impact Wrestling preview, UK ratings, JR talks rap, Punk interviews and videos, interviews with Barrett, Rhodes, George Wallace, and Piper, Vickie charity work, TTTT rating and Raw makes The Soup for something good this time

Dante Dash, formerly Flex Freeman from Jersey City's IWF (and referred to as such on the roster page), and the Japanese tandem of Jiro and Sakamato have been added to the FCW roster page. The latter team has already worked their TV show.

On to PWInsider.com's questions from Wednesday:
1. Well, he didn't put it quite like that, but I wouldn't expect him on TV either way. I didn't really see much in him either, but apparently the trainers did and they saw him a lot more than viewers did. I liked Luke, too, but the attitude was a concern and I can see why they didn't pick him. I hope to see him down the line. Jeremiah on the other hand seemed like a bad choice. Not as boring as Andy and obviously has a solid MMA background, but his personality and way of speaking got on my nerves fairly quickly. He was different, but so was JR rapping.

2. I like those suggestions. It isn't just the titles themselves but the spots on the card and who's seen as important. Cena hasn't been in the title picture these past couple of months, but he's still incredibly important and could easily slip back in there. It'll take time, but getting people ready to move up to that level is worth all the effort. As for the midcard titles, I think they still work for the superstars. It at least gives them a level of credibility, even if it's below the top champions. Theoretically, pretty much everyone's below the top champion of the brand, so this gives them some importance before they (hopefully) move up to that level.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with the odds of Vader going into the Hall of Fame soon.

NXT thoughts- 12/14/11 (with in-attendance notes)

Today on WWE NXT, we hit week 41 of the competition. Titus O'Neil, Derrick Bateman, and Darren Young all continue on their path to try to become WWE's next breakout star. But, tonight, that once more takes a backseat to the love triangle involving Bateman, Johnny Curtis and Maxine. Where will things go from here with them? Who will move closer to a regular spot on Raw or Smackdown? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens, coupled with notes from attending the show live in parentheses.

Tribute to the Troops thoughts- 12/13/11

It's the most patriotic show of the year as WWE pays tribute to the men and women in the armed forces. And what better way to do that than with 2 hours of wrestling? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happesn.

Query on cut Smackdown segment, Cena and JR comment on Raw, what happened after Raw, new YouShoot, latest 1/2/12 video, Questions on ratings, Orton's drug use, PPV piracy, Lesnar's starpower, and assorted WWE Network ponderings, WWE in the Middle East, another Finlay wrestling?, what will kick off Impact Wrestling, autographed Knockouts photos auctioned, WWE Classics update, more on Bryan's attire, Laurinaitis tribute artist thanks WWE and Punk, Ask Eve, Raw rating, and the pre-Smackdown dark match

First up, a query I've gotten a number of times lately:
1. I haven't heard the definitive reason why the Divas match/segment was cut out from Smackdown. If they don't re-shoot it at the Smackdown taping or air it this week, I'd go on the assumption that they might have changed their minds on the storyline decision.Very curious that it didn't make the cut unless it was just an issue of having too much material and not enough time to air it.

John Cena tweeted following being chokeslammed on Raw. There are certainly worse things he could have said. I'm looking forward to seeing how this one plays out.

And speaking of Twitter, JR tweeted a number of apologies for his segment on Monday's show. He's not the one who should be apologizing! I wish they had a do-over there- that was really the best they could come up with to fill some of the time on that show?

After Raw went off the air, Kane exited via the ramp (notably not attacking Henry). Henry left, then Cena after selling the attack. C.M. Punk then successfully defended the title against The Miz and Alberto Del Rio in a brief preview of their TLC match for Sunday. My theory is that Kane is thankful that Henry "awakened the monster" in him that had been dormant for so long. Certainly a segment that got people talking!

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news, including PWInsider.com's questions.

Impact Wrestling preview, wrestling-Netflix updates, cover art for upcoming wrestling books, TTTT dark match, Questions on Austin returning, HBK post-2002, Ryder, Nash, and Sandow, HHH celebrates Metallica, names confirmed for TNA's India project, USA and SyFy press releases don't (initially) mention WWE, no more Classics on Demand?, Smackdown rating, WWE.com exclusive Slammys, and JR's rap

Advertised for this week's Impact Wrestling is Jeff Hardy being in action, one of the Jarretts being fired, and the start of a month-long "Wild Card" tag team tournament to declare new #1 Contenders for Matt Morgan and Crimson. Unexpected pairings will be par for the course there. They've run roughshod over the division, so they NEED someone new to face.

Update: Jeff Hardy will face Bully Ray. Should be good.

Here's an updated list of wrestling-related Netflix titles.

Here's cover art for a number of upcoming books.

The Tribute to the Troops dark match saw Santino Marella defeat Jinder Mahal. So much for Jinder being a serious threat. I guess maybe they don't want to push him too much, too soon.

On to my take on Monday's PWInsider.com questions after the break. First up, an Austin return scenario.

Raw thoughts- 12/12/11

It's the most prestigious awards show in all of Sports Entertainment - the WWE Slammy Awards! A special 3-hour edition of Monday Night Raw honors the best and worst of the company from 2011. And if that wasn't enough, John Cena takes on Mark Henry in a clash of two of the company's top stars. TLC is just around the corner, and anything can happen. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

TNA Final Resolution thoughts

Tonight TNA has a cavalcade of grudge and title matches. Bobby Roode has to defend his TNA World Championship against AJ Styles in a 30-minute Iron Man match, Jeff Hardy faces Jeff Jarrett inside a steel cage with major implications, and James Storm looks for revenge against Kurt Angle. It's a big card, and that's just the top 3 matches! Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Queries on Melina and Jackson Andrews in TNA, WWE promotes former Divas in Lilian video, JR talks FCW, Questions on Jeff Jarrett, a face stable, Daniel Bryan, and Nash, Wes Brisco profiled, interesting WWE memorabilia, another pro-TTTT piece, Daniels interview, and why Bischoff wasn't at Final Resolution

Today's news starts off with some recent queries. While I've addressed both topics before multiple times over, I continue to get asked about them so I'll mention them again:
1. While there was talk of bringing Melina into TNA once John Morrison's WWE contract expired, now that he's taking some time off from the business, it's unknown whether or not they'll bring her in. It seems that her future is tied to his to some degree. If there's any update on either or both heading there, I'll be sure to report it.

2. No disrespect to the guy, but I'm really surprised that I still get queries on Jackson Andrews possibly going to TNA. As far as I can tell, there hasn't been anything to suggest that he'll end up there. I honestly can't remember seeing much of anything on him period since his WWE release. If there's every any news on that front, I'll cover it, but it doesn't look like something that's going to happen in the near future.

As for news that actually something new to comment on:
WWE covered the returning Lilian Garcia's music video, featuring former Divas Torrie Wilson and Candice Michelle. The three of them at one point did a weekly post-Raw show (and possibly more). I know Maria Menounos (at least) once stopped by to talk this year's Tough Enough as well.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and PWInsider.com's questions. First up, Jim Ross looks at the status of  WWE's developmental system.

TNA Final Resolution preview

Honestly, TNA has a pretty loaded card tonight. Anything that isn't a title match is at least a grudge match. This show could change the very foundation of TNA with some of its stipulations. Read on for how I'd book the show.

Tribute to the Troops notes, Jericho talks 1/2/12 videos, Morrison talks future, Final Resolution opening video, Vito talks WWE turkey list, TMZ gets a pic of Otunga and Hudson, Batista talks WWE being PG and Cena, Questions on Tough Enough's Luke, Taker, one word to describe WWE, and non-PG Knockouts, Tessmacher in wreck, Sheamus on Fallon, difficult month for Cena, Lita arrested, Jarrett to be fired?, what will kick off Final Resolution, and Midcard Mafia #2?

Here are stories on WWE's Tribute to the Troops meet-and-greets and work done on the anti-bullying campaign.

Chris Jericho rebuffed fans linking him to the 1/2/12 videos. Rumors continue to state that he'll be returning then.

John Morrison addressed fans asking questions about his future. I think he could be making a pretty smart move here. Maybe he does end up back in WWE after all?

Here's the video that will start off TNA Final Resolution.

Vito discussed being on WWE's "Turkey" list. I agree that WWE could use more creativity and characters, but think he might be taking this a little too harshly.

TMZ.com has a picture of David Otunga, Jennifer Hudson, and their son. I wonder if they could ever get Hudson to make some sort of appearance? Seems like they would have by now if she was open to it. Hmm...

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news, including PWInsider.com's questions. First up, Batista talks about John Cena in less-than-flattering fashion.

Saturday, December 10, 2011

Miz interview, Divas match/heel turn cut from Smackdown, Questions on experimenting with Cena as a heel, Bryan in WWE or TNA, what an FCW contract entails, and Jackie Moore, Miz on Conan, Morrison on TLC ad, HHH DVD in the works, Z! TLIS #43, Indonesian WWE TV deal, more on Abdullah lawsuit, Wild Samoan interview, lots of book news, another troop meet and greet, Snuka surgery, announcer leaves WWE, Sheamus on Fallon, Raw GM talks NBA GM, more from Foley interview, and the Impact Wrestling rating

The Miz was interviewed ahead of the Slammy Awards. Entertaining guy and a natural heel.

The following might contain spoilers (if they re-shoot it or add it to a future episode of Smackdown): WWE filmed a Divas match at Tuesday's Smackdown taping where Natalya and Beth Phoenix once again defeated AJ and Kaitlyn. After the match, Kaitlyn (reluctantly?) left with the victorious team. Here's footage. Very well acted, though I'm obviously a big fan of both NXT alumni. I'm split on whether they should go that route with the characters, since they seem like such a natural duo given their interactions in the past. Though, this would theoretically mean that both of them would be used more, and that sounds good to me. No word on why it wasn't used. It could have just been a case of having too much content taped and needing to cut that to fit timing constraints. I guess we'll see in time.

And speaking of heel turns, guess what Friday's first PWInsider.com question was about! Here's my take on them:
1. I also don't think it'd be a good idea. I'm not so sure how willing the target audience would be to accepting him back after a turn. I think they'd at least be weary of fully trusting him again. I get that a lot of older fans are tired of Cena as the top face, but a heel turn of that magnitude isn't something to be so careless about.

2. Hmmm... I'm not sure that he wouldn't get lost in the shuffle in TNA. WWE's been (slowly but surely) building him up for a while now, and I agree with the optimism that one day he'll be someone they're confident at using at a higher level if things go as they're going for him now. He's already been in World Title matches and theoretically has another one at WrestleMania. And he only debuted for them (post-FCW) last year! So, be patient. It certainly looks like good things are on the horizon for him.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, beginning with what a developmental contract means.

Smackdown thoughts- 12/9/11

Tonight on WWE Smackdown, Randy Orton and Wade Barrett have to Beat The Clock! Whichever man can win their match in the fastest time chooses the stipulation for their match at TLC next Sunday. Will the Barrett Barrage continue or will the Viper's venom take effect? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Thursday, December 8, 2011

Iron Sheik wants memories, Robbie E married, Questions on potential WWE signings (including Chris Hero), WWE 24/7 and Michael Cole, why HHH/Nash is on TLC, Miz interview, TTTT photos, updates on developmental prospects, TNA signs new UK TV deal, more Vickie footage from WWE '12, venue issue for WWE?, Ryder meet and greet, Kelly interview, more from Show at the ACA, new WWE action figures, more on Hepatitis C case, Piper on Celebrity Ghost Stories, Menounos vs. Beth Phoenix?, and the Impact post-show

The Iron Sheik is looking for Christmas cards and letters. I was actually unaware that those accounts were fake. Whoops... hopefully this makes up for that mistake to a degree.

Robbie E was recently married. That would have been great in character.

As for my take on PWInsider.com's questions:
1. I haven't seen anything either. As many tryouts and possible call-ups that've been thrown around lately, I suppose anything's possible.

I could use the exact same answer for 2.

As for 3, I share their enthusiasm for Hero. Good to know that things at least got that far and could be continuing. Hopefully things get sorted out on that end. It'd be very unfortunate if some sort of health issue prevented him form being used in the company. Things continue to seem to be up in the air about his status.

4. I also haven't seen any plans, but that would make sense for them to do.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with why Michael Cole is used so much.

Superstars and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 12/8/11

It's Thursday, so there are three hours of wrestling to cover. First up, in the main event of WWE Superstars, Evan Bourne comes back to the ring to face off with Epico. Will the Colons find themselves on the road to the tag team titles? And later on Impact Wrestling, Dixie Carter and Sting will address Bobby Roode, James Storm returns to seek revenge on Kurt Angle, and Jeff Jarrett teams with the TNA World Champion as they go to war against AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy. As Final Resolution approaches, who will get the upper hand?

Wednesday, December 7, 2011

Query on HHH's worst match, Waltman filming for Raw vs. Nitro show, TNA stars working AAA PPV, Questions on Cena/Piper, Z! TLIS on WWE Network, potential Mania matches, Hogan not being on TV, and Jake/Hall in the hall, update on Abdullah/Nicholson lawsuit, Impact Wrestling preview, Gillberg interview, Cena on Facebook trending list, more Khali promotion, Carter looks at 2012 for TNA, TTTT day rundown, and more from Piper

Today's query is on what Triple H's worst match was. I haven't seen his whole career, but the PPV matches with Scott Steiner are usually up there on people's lists (and I'd be hard-pressed to disagree). Some of that could have been related to how high of a stage they were on, though. I get the feeling that his match with Kevin Nash will stand a chance of climbing the list as well.

Sean Waltman's Raw visit was in order to film for WWE's upcoming Monday Night War show. He's certainly qualified to talk at length about working for both companies. It will feature current stars as well as those who were involved at the time.

AJ Styles, Gunner, and D'Angelo Dinero will work AAA's 12/16 PPV.

As for my take on the 12/7 PWInsider.com questions:
1. I don't think so. We'll see where things go from there, but I'd be shocked if they actually pulled the trigger on a heel turn any time soon. He's too over as a face.

2. I don't see it happening. It's Ryder's "thing" (not WWE's) and honestly at some point he'll probably move on from making the show if he gets over enough to where he feels that he doesn't need it. It'd be interesting, but I don't know if Ryder would be willing to turn it over to the company. As for it being on the network with hout WWE producing it, I'm also not sure that longer episodes would work out (and don't see them doing brief episodes like we get now).

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions. Next up, ranking potential Mania draws.

NXT thoughts- 12/7/11

It's week 40 (yes, FORTY) of NXT: Redemption tonight. Titus O'Neil, Derrick Bateman, and Darren Young all continue to try to become WWE's next breakout star, but will Bateman and Maxine be on the path to breaking up? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Queries on WWE returns for Shane and the Hardys, post-Raw dark match features FCW stars, Kharma engagement "ring", Questions on Morrison leaving WWE, WWE using WCW, Vince on Twitter, Nigel McGuinness, and Bryan vs. Punk, Orton interview, Dusty on Twitter, '80s star hospitalized, WWE goes after Twitter posers, Show/ACA pictures, Vince not at Raw but a number of visitors were, WWE Title update, spoiler updates regarding 1/2/12 videos and returns, TNA action figures, JR/Dusty working on WWE show, more from Foley interview, 2 TNA stars work OVW, WWE stock a notable positive mover, superstars talk Japan trip, Raw rating, and a Flair interview

Perhaps inspired by the recent YouTube videos, I've gotten a number of queries about potential WWE returns that have been addressed a number of times in the past. Since it's been a little while, and they don't look to be stopping soon, here are some updates:
1. Shane McMahon has pretty much fallen off the map as far as wrestling is concerned. I'm under the impression that he'll continue to be "out of the picture". He's involved with the cable business in China and a return to WWE (or wrestling in general for that matter) doesn't seem to be in the cards.

2. Jeff Hardy is in TNA, and there's been nothing to suggest that he'll be leaving there, much less going back to WWE (where he would have 2 strikes against him on the Wellness Policy from his previous run). Matt Hardy's still in and out of rehab with a number of arrests in the last couple of months. I don't see WWE wanting any part of that negative publicity, so I would be EXTREMELY surprised if he ended up back there.

After Raw went off the air, Dolph Ziggler won a 41-man battle royal to challenge C.M. Punk for the WWE Championship. Punk won. Featured in the battle royal were Skip Sheffield, Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, Damien Sandow, and Big E Langston, so some or all of those names could be on TV soon. It's possible that they needed some last-minute replacements to pad out the already announced main event and due to Raw's proximity to FCW they were able to pull those names in, though Sheffield and Sandow have worked house shows (and Rollins and Ambrose have been considered for main roster tryouts). I'm always interested in seeing new, fresh characters, but I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that there are plenty of talented workers who are stuck in Purgatory (NXT and Superstars) already who should be featured first. The Supershow format has done well for some, but others continue to be lost in the shuffle and overlooked. I wish WWE would use the big names more wisely so their appearances mean more, and fill the rest of the show with young and hungry talent who need attention from management and Creative for the fans to care about them.

WWE Diva Kharma's engagement ring, appropriately shaped like a wrestling ring, was featured on TMZ. Props to those there who showcase wrestling as something other than a "fake" event to be mocked.

After the break, I look at the rest of the day's news, starting with my take on PWInsider.com's questions. First up, why didn't WWE re-sign John Morrison?

Monday, December 5, 2011

Raw thoughts- 12/5/11

Tables, Ladders, and Chairs (oh my) is on the way in less than 2 weeks, and C.M. Punk needs an opponent. Who will step up to challenge the WWE Champion? Also, The Miz hunts down his next victim and John Cena continues to combat the boos of the WWE Universe. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Khali interview, Questions on WM28 masks, Raw on demand, WWE going downhill, videos to track down, and no-shows, Strongbow hospitalized, Windham update, Rollins/Ambrose on the road?, more Khali promo work, Z! TLIS #42, lots of TNA tapings, WWE Network notes, Del Rio previews Raw, Interviews with Jericho, Mitchell, and Carter, Smackdown replay rating, Garcia returning, Spike president talks wrestling/MMA, Raw dark match, cryptic video #3, Dundee autobiography out, where Big Show was at Raw, and voting for Superstar of the Year

The Great Khali did an interview on wrestling and Bollywood. No word on when he'll be back in the ring.

On to my take on PWInsider.com's questions:
1. It doesn't look like it will happen unless they debut (an)other masked character(s) before then (or put current characters under masks). I believe it was specifically lucha masks they were aiming for the record on, so Kane presumably wouldn't count. I'm sure they'd still like people to wear Mysterio and Sin Cara merch, but the idea of both of them competing that night doesn't look too likely.

Nothing to add to 2, though a lot of us would appreciate Raw being on things like Hulu! I can see what they're doing.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, beginning with exactly when WWE started going downhill from the Attitude Era.

Miami Herald covers house show, Question on no-compete clauses, HHH/Nash update, Carter interview, Fakih arrested, and Chris Masters to work TNA India project

The Miami Herald covered a recent Florida house show. Included is a picture of Skip Sheffield from his heturn to action. I'm curious as to the details of his presumed on-screen return.

The only PWInsider.com question which wasn't 100% straightforward was the first one: When a contract expires, a performer is immediately free to work elsewhere. Hence Gail Kim's rather sudden appearance in TNA. So, John Morrison (and Melina, since her no-compete clause is up) is/are available should TNA make the right offer.

Triple H was originally advertised for the 12/5 Raw, but his name no longer appears on the arena's website. It's looking like his feud with Kevin Nash will lead to (possible spoiler alert) a match at the Royal Rumble. Better then than Mania, I guess? It doesn't seem to have gotten over nearly as well as they'd have liked.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news, starting with an interview with Dixie Carter.

Saturday, December 3, 2011

Hornswoggle talks, Bryan up for PETA2 award, Impact Wrestling preview, Hill talks wrestling, FCW talent works house show, Benoit biopic in the works, new WWE YouTube channel on its way, Glacier responds to being on "Turkey" List, new WWE trademarks, Tyler Reks' "Midcard Mafia" animated series, updated Final Resolution line-up, Questions on Survivor Series, Taker vs. Kane, Arn in the Hall, combining titles, and backyard wrestling, Tessmacher and Foley interviews, Dreamer looks at WWE positives, Abdullah positive for Hep C?, and a return from injury

WWE.com has a video of Hornswoggle addressing the fans after his Smackdown wish. You have to wonder how he made it through life previously without talking. Kind of crazy to hear after so many years of grunts.

Daniel Bryan is nominated for "Most Animal-Friendly Athlete" by PETA2 for his vegan lifestyle. That's somewhat amusing given that his finisher in ROH was called the Cattle Mutilation.

Here's the preview for next week's Impact Wrestling. Nice matches and stories set up for the show.

Jonah Hill talked about growing up as a wrestling fan on CBS Sports ahead of what was supposed to be an appearance on Raw. Fair point about the Globetrotters.

FCW's Damien Sandow worked a Smackdown brand house show, losing to Tyson Kidd. He's got a rather peculiar gimmick, but he's another name I'm interested in seeing work with the main roster.

SRG Films is planning a film adaptation of "Ring of Hell", a controversial, disputed take on the Chris Benoit incident. While I think it's a story that needs to be told, there are better sources to pull from.

WWE's new YouTube channel will open on 2/1/12.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news, including PWInsider.com's questions. Up next, Glacier responds to being on WWE's "Turkey List".

Knockout's contract up, Booker returns to the ring, Bourne update, Questions on Diva and Knockout storylines, Cena turning heel, and Neal/Toxxin in TNA, more on TNA's India project, Slammy commercial, Piper interview, Khali does WWE promo work, Cena's Zubaz pants covered, Foley interview, and the Impact Wrestling rating

This one apparently slipped through the cracks recently: Jackie Moore's TNA contract is officially up and there's been no word of her re-signing. She is, however, still on the roster page.

Booker T. is working against Cody Rhodes on Smackdown house shows. Obviously they're headed for a feud on TV. I think he might still be able to "go".

Evan Bourne is back doing promotional work and house shows for WWE, so expect him on TV again soon.

For Friday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Presumably they're building towards Kaitlyn turning heel and perhaps AJ teaming with Alicia. As for why the Divas of Doom backed off, maybe they felt that they had made their point?

Nothing to add to 2, as it was just recently asked. For 3, I actually thought that match was rather dismal. I expect Gail to win and the feud to continue. I'd like the Knockouts division to keep in a positive direction as well.

After the break, I look at the rest of the day's news and the other PWInsider.com questions, starting with whether it's possible that John Cena turns heel at WrestleMania.

Friday, December 2, 2011

JR blog, Maryse and Lawler interviews, Japanese cameos, Smackdown rating, Chyna makes bogus claims, WWE '12 sales update, FCW talents to get tryouts, Questions on NXT, "Where are They Now" on Jim Dotson, Vader, and Midnight, and The Rock after Mania, Bourne ok to return, Ziggler interview, TTTT press release reveals impressive celebrity cameos, January PPV posters, WWE looks at the Kaitlyn/AJ story, Foley-Wife Swap press release, Morgan talks TNA/WWE and the Impact Wrestling post-show

Jim Ross posted a new blog on Undertaker, Cena, Morrison, and a good deal more. Whatever Morrison's future, I hope to see him on TV wrestling again. If he needs time off beforehand, that's understandable.

Maryse talked to Diva-Dirt about her time in WWE and her future. It's hard to picture her as a babyface given how natural she is as a heel. As for her thoughts on the Divas' division, I agree. I hate that so many of the workers there have been just "Face Diva Number ______" or "Heel Diva Number _____". I think this area has been improved upon a good deal lately (especially on NXT), but they can do better. A lot of them have potential to be distinct, likeable (or booable) characters and athletes, but they're not getting as much of a chance to do that as I'd like. Granted, this goes for a number of male athletes as well.

Jerry Lawler talked about the critically acclaimed "Memphis Heat" documentary and his history in the business. There's WAY too much overthinking in wrestling today. Possibly the biggest thing hurting the business.

Trendrr (no, that's not a typo) has Smackdown and Raw once more in the top 10 buzzed-about shows. Obviously WWE will be happy to know that.

On the 12/1 Raw house show in Japan, Funaki worked as the special referee for the Divas' Title match before being eating a Skull Crushing Finale by Miz. Brilliant. Also, hilariously, John Cena wore Zubaz pants in his match. He should stick to his regular attire since it's "what his character wears".

The 11/29 Smackdown pulled in a 2.12 rating. Not bad, but I think they should have hoped for higher with a Tuesday airing, hyped main event, and Mick Foley hosting. The holiday goofiness could have turned fans off.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news, including PWInsider.com's questions. Up next, Chyna's latest off-the-wall claims.

Superstars (with in-attendance notes) and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 12/1/11

On WWE Superstars, one-half of the WWE Tag Team Champions is in action as Kofi Kingston faces Primo. Can the former holder of that title get himself and Epico in the running? Then, on Impact Wrestling, Sting addresses Bobby Roode, Karen Angle addresses the Knockouts, Rob Van Dam challenges for the TV Title, and 3 teams compete to see who will challenge the new Tag Team Champions. Will it be Mexican America, Ink, Inc., or Devon and D'Angelo Dinero? Read on for my thoughts on the shows as they happen, with in-attendance notes for the Smackdown half of Superstars in parentheses.

Thursday, December 1, 2011

JBL's scooter stolen, Hart angry at Canadian ad, Buchanan interview, Questions on WWE building stars and attractive Divas/Knockouts, Impact Wrestling and Final Resolution previews, Raw rating, Japanese star visits WWE, former FCW Champion returns, JR talks turning Cena heel and Austin wrestling, and an interview with A-Ryin interview

TMZ has a story on JBL's scooter being stolen in Bermuda and possibly being sold for scraps. Not to make light of this serious criminal situation, but the idea of JBL's character riding a scooter is hilarious to me.

Bret Hart is (justifyingly) peeved at a Canadian ad portraying wrestlers poorly. That was bad and they should feel bad. I hope they get tons of angry letters. Or tonnes if they prefer.

Bull Buchanan talked about his recent cameo and what's going on in his life. Good stuff.

As for Wednesday's PWInsider.com questions and my thoughts on them:
1. I think we need to retire the word "buried". There's a difference between being hit with snowballs and getting caught underneath an avalanche. Buried should be saved for the latter type of case. That said, yes, Survivor Series was about Rock. I agree that Cena, Miz, and Truth could and should have looked better. Thankfully they're being built more now to correct that. Booker could have been in-character I suppose. They had a big feud during the 2001 Invasion angle. I could be way off, and his commentary is quite the trainwreck in general that there's not much telling what goes on there. I think they'll continue to do well (but not perfect) with Punk. They know he's the real deal now.

2's specific to them, and 3's a potential powderkeg. There are a number of females in both companies who are quite good-looking. I honestly feel kind of weird talking about my tastes in women on a wrestling blog. If someone really wants to know, leave a comment and I'll go into it.

There's nothing to add to 4, and they summed up 5 very nicely, so I'll move on after the break.

NXT thoughts- 11/30/11 (with in-attendance notes)

Today on NXT: Redemption, the competition to become the next breakout star of WWE hits Week 39.  Derrick Bateman, Titus O'Neil, and Darren Young bring three different styles to the table; which one will be most successful in pushing them forward this week? Of course, they'll be joined by a number of other overlooked Superstars also with something to prove.
