More coverage of new WWE signing and Angle-MMA story, preview of Miz on H8R, Foley interviews, a look at the draw of wrestling collectibles, Santino's Cobra in rugby victory celebration?, note on Impact Wrestling tapings, TNA fan party, new Jeff Hardy merch, Questions on Miz, McGillicutty, Cole, Angle vs. Storm, and Jackman-Ziggler, Uso arrested for DUI, 3 hour Raw set, WWE cuts referee/former wrestler, JR talks Hell In A Cell, Daivari/Bashir interview, Natalya promotes upcoming shows, details on HBK/Hart DVD, Miz talks firing and one-ups Hogan, Lawler update, McMahon's net worth, Z! TLIS #33, and a 2nd-generation developmental release

NBC Sports covered the hiring of WWE's new VP of talent relations. I'm a little concerned about the fact that she gave so little notice for leaving her previous job, and left her chairperson spot that she was hired for until the end of 2012. I think it's a legitimate concern that she could end up doing something similar in WWE. It seems like a rather odd fit on paper, but we'll see how it goes.

Fox Sports covered Kurt Angle's claims of going into MMA, but not Dana White's response to them. Unsurprisingly, the wrestling media doesn't buy his claims either.

Here's a video preview of The Miz on H8R. I'll definitely be watching that one, especially if there's real physicality involved. I wouldn't sell Miz short in a physical confrontation with a non-athlete.

Mick Foley was interviewed about a number of topics. I think it's about time for him to either get signed or turn them down. This feels like it's gone on for quite a while now.

Update: Here's another Foley Q&A.

Here's an article looking at the success of wrestling collectibles. The action movie metaphor is spot-on.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news, including a look at PWInsider.com's questions.

Impact Wrestling thoughts- 9/29/11

Tonight on Spike, Hulk Hogan has a major announcement to make. Also, Jeff Hardy continues his quest for redemption, a bunch of X-Division wrestlers compete in a ladder match to earn a title shot, and Bobby Roode faces his Fortune teammate AJ Styles. All that and more coming up. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Questions on crazy things said, loosening Creative chains, Kharma, and Owen in the HoF, USA press release, Punk gets new tattoo, new Angle-MMA claims shot down, new Edge DVD in the works, most popular wrestlers online, WWE hires new VP of talent relations, another Mysterio surgery, WWE stock analysis, Smackdown rating hyped, "Inside Out" interview, Barrett takes over WWE.com interview, 2012 Rumble in St. Louis?, 10/11 Smackdown taping turned into Supershow w/DX, and The Miz will confront a hater,

Wednesday's news started with questions sent to PWInsider.com. Here's my look at them:
I'm almost positive that 1 was a repeat of a question that they've answered recently, so I'll skip to 2. The craziest things I can think of are all conspiracy theories people have about wrestling. There are some columnists out there who've come up with some pretty out-there stories of what supposedly goes/went on behind the scenes at WWE. They definitely don't let facts get in the way of a good story. As long as people keep reading their blogs and buying their books, they'll keep coming up with bogus "news" to report.

3. It feels like we're getting a boost in the product overall, moving away from some of the "same old, same old". I think people are stepping out of the box a bit more (see: pushing angles on Twitter, Ryder's push based off of his Internet show, R-Truth and Henry's new characters, working more with the tag team and Divas divisions, hiring some top indie prospects,etc.). I don't think we'll see a massive shift of job duties any time soon, but for now at least they seem like they're getting perhaps a little more leeway. As for unscripted promos, I'm not so sure about that one just yet. It depends on how comfortable they get with the talents being themselves and the like. There's not much to say but "stay tuned" to see if they continue this path.

4. Kim and Melina were hardly used towards the end of their runs. Currently, there's the big Divas of Doom angle that I would say is a pretty serious direction. I personally think Kharma working with the men would be fine. She was portrayed as being able to mop the floor with all of the Divas on the roster. Who the heck from that division would be able to beat her? Her return's still a long ways off, so a lot will change between now and then.

After the break, I go into the rest of Wednesday's news and questions, starting with whether Vince McMahon would allow Jeff Jarrett to attend a Hall of Fame induction of Owen Hart.

Lineup for Austin DVD, Miz responds to HHH's reasons for firing him, Questions on HHH-Punk, Mike Awesome, odd finishers, Starrcade 2000, and the former Team 3D, Vince upset, training with Regal, Raw dark match and Superstars spoilers, Miz/R-Truth crash house show, WWE stars working FCW, Punk talks triple threat,TNA announces international tours and TV deals, Anderson interview, updates on Mysterio and Lawler, Cena interview, Nash pulled from indie show, Robbie E clinic, TNA office release, preview of next WWE film, Raw rating, Rock/Cena promo art, and Ryder talks about possibly ending his YouTube show

WWE.com has released more details on the upcoming Stone Cold Steve Austin DVD.

The Miz tweeted about Triple H's own checkered past with WWE officials, attacking him for firing he and R-Truth for their recent actions. Things like this are much better ways of bringing reality to wrestling than documentary-style camerawork and referring to performers' real names.

Reby Sky talked to Howard Stern about her boyfriend Matt Hardy entering rehab.

On to my look at PWInsider.com's questions for Tuesday:
1. In order: They're pushing him, the alliance with Cena is because of mutual enemies moreso than them being friends (and he never hated him in the first place, as per the promo that started the whole angle), and Punk didn't fight HHH because he believes that someone's just playing them against each other. He'd be a sucker and an idiot to walk right into that trap. Laurinaitis interrupted him before they could possibly go at it, anyway. It's not like Austin and McMahon brawled every week in their feud. I get the feeling sometimes that some fans are just looking for things to complain about, whether they're educated and accurate criticisms or not.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with why Mike Awesome wasn't successful in WCW or WWE.

NXT thoughts- 9/27/11

It's Season 5, Episode 30 of NXT tonight. That's not a typo. It's like Gilligan's Island: everyone's stuck on the island, and they keep hinting that someone will escape but they never do. Derrick Bateman, Titus O'Neil, and Darren Young continue to battle it out for a spot on Season 6. They're inching closer to an elimination, though none have been announced. So, maybe someone goes home soon and maybe they don't. Until then, three people are competing for a WWE contract, and every week counts. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Query on Leakee, Austin talks Mania and Tough Enough, Collector's Version of WWE '12 news, Questions on episode 1 of the new ROH, the Nature Boy, Punk's storylines, WWE looking at ROH, and Barrett "copying" Masters, TNA previews Hardy DVD, Jericho interview, HBK interrupts HHH, superstars talk COO, WWE's Mattel packaging, Aussie ratings, Vickie seeking new clients, another surgery for Mysterio?, Smackdown rating, and Punk pays tribute to Guerrero

First up, a query:
1. I'm not going to lie; the family tree's a little complicated. Leakee's the son of one of the Wild Samoans, so he's a 2nd-generation wrestler. He's also the brother of former 3-Minute Warning member Rosey. But I don't believe his grandparents wrestled, so his lineage just goes back to his father.

Stone Cold Steve Austin talked about the potential of a WrestleMania match with C.M. Punk and the near-certainty of another Tough Enough. His comments on Hogan were particularly interesting given some of the things he said about him years back. As for wrestlers retiring, it's true that there are pretty successful wrestlers coming back into the fold. or remaining in the fold in some cases. Casual fans know of them and are sometimes lured in by seeing them competing. Of course, it's a matter of using them wisely and the other members of the roster growing from working with them.

I wonder how well some people can "break through" and become successful when so many spots are held by the established guys. KISS tours might still do well, but what if we didn't have the option to see newer, fresher talented acts get a chance to pull in big numbers in their own right? Obviously Justin Bieber can't match the all-time success of, say, The Eagles, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be used as a headliner. Pulling in that much money doesn't happen over a few years. Performers need time to grow and get over. Austin worked his way up through the Hollywood Blonds and Ringmaster gimmicks. Sting was a Blade Runner and teamed with Robocop. Flair and Hogan similarly took time and experience to become draws.

The collector's version of WWE '12, with The Rock on the cover, will only be available at THQ's online store.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news, and PWInsider.com's questions. First up, a look at ROH's broadcast TV debut.

Raw thoughts- 9/26/11

Last week, WWE's COO fired and unceremoniously booted The Miz and R-Truth. And he's just getting started. Tonight, Triple H continues to leave his mark on Raw just 6 nights from Hell in A Cell. On that night, John Cena will defend his newly-won WWE Championship in the titular structure against former champions Alberto Del Rio and C.M. Punk. All of the competitors will be at Raw tonight, along with plenty of other stars from both brands. And maybe a few fired talents as well! Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

WWE.com profiles Billy Kidman, McCool interview teaser, Questions on the Kliq/nWo, Supershows, MITB cash-ins, Nash, and Punk, interviews with Tara and Masters, and UK ratings

WWE.com has a 2-part "Where Are They Now" feature on Billy Kidman, who now works there as an agent. He's got a pretty important job at present. Part of me would like to see him have a go at some of the current guys as they continue to gain the experience needed to move up the card. I don't think we'll see it happen, though it's possible.

Michelle McCool has a video interview coming up soon, previewed here. Very interesting (and scary) story.

After the break, I'll go into the rest of the day's news, and PWInsider.com's questions, starting with a possible nWo or Kliq reunion in WWE.

Bryan talks to WWE.com, Jackman talks Ziggler, Questions on Whipwreck, ROH's TV show, and going to shows live, and Sheamus talks bullying, his persona, and education

WWE.com caught up with Daniel Bryan after his loss on Smackdown. Not bad.

Hugh Jackman talked with Entertainment Weekly about the Dolph Ziggler angle. The latter's done a good job stretching it out to get more coverage than it would have otherwise.

After the break, I go into PWInsider.com's questions for Saturday and the rest of the day's news. Firstly, where's Mikey Whipwreck?

Saturday, September 24, 2011

Survivor Series trailer, Questions on tag ropes and rebuilding the tag team division, more of Flair in Boston, Rock's father interviewed, a look at title belts, more on potential WWE Network plans, Bound For Glory to be shown in cinemas, DiBiase tailgating, Rhodes busted open, Miz on YouTube, Heenan injured, more on Abdullah lawsuit, WWE interviews Ziggler, Impact Wrestling rating and demographic information, Superstars no longer being posted online, and Big Show on a Nick show

WWE has a preview trailer for Survivor Series. I think that will end up being pretty successful for the company.

As for my look at PWInsider.com's questions:
1. It's a pretty old-school concept. That's what the referee wants them to hold onto when they're on the apron. Kind of silly in 2011 but I see why they do it. Inside the universe of the show, the matches are actual competitions and the rules reinforce that.

2 was already covered, so I'm skipping to 3. Given how little trouble Cena has against multiple opponents, why would he need a partner? Actually, that could be a good idea. Have Cena try to compete in the tag team division by himself... That's kind of gimmicky, though. Anyway, I'd keep Air Boom and Awesome Truth together for starters. I'd certainly look into the Kings of Wrestling as a team, though I've seen a grand total of zero matches from them. They've gotten plenty of high marks. I agree about The Usos. I've enjoyed what I've seen of them. Give the team of Hawkins and Reks a shot. Possibly a team of Derrick Bateman and Johnny Curtis. JTG/Young and Watson/O'Neil from NXT. There are probably a few other combinations from the main roster that could work as well. There's only so much time to focus on the division, so this is kind of a pipe dream. If they can get Beer Money, then more power to them, but I'd go on the assumption that wouldn't be able to come in. I'd definitely look their way. The Young Bucks, though? Not a chance. MAYBE in FCW. Colt Cabana could probably work in a team with someone, too.

There really isn't anything to add to the other questions, so after the break I move to the rest of the day's news, starting with more on Ric Flair with the Boston Red Sox.

Smackdown thoughts- 9/23/11

The World's Strongest Champion has arrived. After defeating Randy Orton on Sunday, Mark Henry has won his first-ever World Heavyweight Championship after 15 years in the company. His reign of terror comes to Smackdown tonight. With 9 scant days between now and Hell in a Cell, Randy Orton needs a game plan if he wants to get the title back. The next shots will be fired tonight. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Story on Knoxville Impact Wrestling taping, ESPN off-shoot looks at WWE conspiracies, Flair to undego surgery, more Jackman press, Questions on Jericho returning, Cole, Dixie changing TNA, women in the Hall of Fame, and boxing stars in wrestling, Hardy's girlfriend interviewed, more on Jackman punch, Kim update, Punk talks MMA, Foley speech, Nash update, WWE stock drops, Punk on ice cream bars, WWE Network survey, Z! TLIS #32, Miz sells firing, and a note on Superstars coverage

The local NBC affiliate in Knoxville, TN ran a story on the Impact Wrestling tapings. They claim it sold out th e 5,000-capacity coliseum, but some of those tickets were given away for free. Either way, that's an impressive crowd and they have a big opportunity with it. Note that the video includes spoiler footage.

Grantland.com has an article looking at the "conspiracy" talk in WWE. As for the race comments, I haven't seen anything that really substantiated the claims of R-Truth being rehired to push black wrestlers. There are plenty of B.S. Internet rumors, but that's the first time I've heard that particular one. In other words, I don't buy it. The R-Truth gimmick could very well have been Killings' idea since he legitimately rapped before his return.

Ric Flair will undergo surgery for what is now known to be a torn triceps muscle. He still insists that it's not a case of him being too old and broken down to actively compete. He'll miss 4-6 months of ring time, which is probably for the best at this point.

Zap2it.com and Bigpondnews.com covered Hugh Jackman being on Raw. Ziggler deserves credit for playing this up online.

WWE.com talked to Jackman as well. Good stuff.

After the break, I go into a look at PWInsider.com's questions, and the rest of the day's news. Firstly, an update on Chris Jericho.

Impact Wrestling thoughts- 9/22/11

Today, on Impact Wrestling, drama intensifies between Hulk Hogan and Sting. World Heavyweight Champion Kurt Angle calls out his Bound For Glory opponent Bobby Roode before his match with Fortune teammate Daniels, and Rob Van Dam teams with Mr. Anderson to face Jerry Lynn and Bully Ray. All this and plenty more on tap for today. Read on for my thoughts on the shows as they happen.

Young interview, Questions on cage matches, career enders, visas, Hardy's "suicide" video, and TNA on 9/11, new WWE TV deal, Matt Hardy updates, more DX hunting footage, Twitter on Impact Wrestling, more TNA signings, Austin DVD cover, Tatsu discusses new look, Bearer blogs, Kelly Facebooks, Orton signing, UFC boss addresses HHH, JR interview, Miz's parents discuss firing angle, another rescheduled house show, Tori Amos talks Foley, more on new WWE film, Hardy enters rehab, Jarrett promotes Impact Wrestling and big angle, Miz interview, WWE Corporate looking to hire, and a DGUSA star works Superstars

Eric Young was interviewed to promote the Impact Wrestling tapings in Knoxville, TN. I point to his comments about how timing is important in wrestling. It's what separates a guy who can do innovative moves and not much else from a guy who can be a big draw.

PWInsider.com has some Wednesday questions to look into:
1. That's a good point actually. I don't think I've ever thought of it like that. As they said, it arose from the idea of eliminating outside interference or slipping out of the ring, so that's what they're going for. I side with them on it being treated as a standard wrestling match with a cage involved rather than a special exclusive gimmick.

2. Legitimately, not that I can think of off the top of my head. Which is good. That would be very unfortunate. That doesn't mean they got off scot-free though, by any stretch.

3. Admittedly I'm not an expert on the process of getting visas, so I'll refer back to them. I would think that it'd be like a driver's license and you have a window where you can renew it before it expires, but it might not be very long. Things happen sometimes.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with a look at the Matt Hardy "suicide" controversy a few weeks back.

Queries on Shane McMahon and Melina, fitness model to try out to be WWE Diva, WWE "releases" Miz and R-Truth, Lawler injured, updates on Nash and Edge, Questions on TNA without Spike, patenting moves, NBC's wrestling pilot, ROH on the road, and banned moves, Raw dark match, BFG in cinemas, news on TNA taping attendance, Foley teases HIAC appearance, Smackdown house show canceled, Jackman's reputation backstage, Sin Cara(s) news, Hardy arrested once more after search warrant turns up drugs, Hogan signs endorsement, Jackman on Raw coverage, TNA going overseas, Black Machismo commercial. R-Truth talks "firing", Miz interview, Cena addresses criticism, Batista update, Flair on SportsCenter, WWE stars address Miz/Truth "releases", Raw rating, FCW appearances, and Ziggler injured (?)

First up, some queries sent in:
1. There have been no updates on Shane McMahon as they relate to WWE or wrestling in general for that matter. He isn't expected to return any time soon, if at all.

2. Melina is still under her 90-day no-compete clause following her WWE release. I haven't seen anything about her possibly returning to the company. It's possible, but I can only think of a few cases where they've signed someone back within that time period, and both of them were due to big fan demand following controversial firings (Matt Hardy and Daniel Bryan). There hasn't been nearly as much of an outcry over her release, and I don't suspect there will be.

UK fitness model Carly Thornton will be part of WWE try-outs this November, hoping to be come a WWE Diva. Hey, it could work out.

WWE.com has announced the storyline firings of The Miz and R-Truth. Don't worry; they're still under contract and doing some of the best work of their careers.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions. First up, a look at a legitimate Raw injury.

NXT thoughts- 9/20/11

We are now at the 29th episode of Season 5 of NXT. That's a pretty good run for a show that's not on the air in the States at present. Fortunately it's relatively cheap to make. Anyway, this edition of the show will feature even more in the journeys of Derrick Bateman, Darren Young, and Titus O'Neil to make it to the next season of the show. Also featured will (presumably) be fellow ex-NXT contestants AJ, Maxine, and Percy Watson, along with a number of Pros and whoever else crashes the party. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens!

Heyman talks HHH-Punk, backstage at NoC, Questions on a tamer WWE, Wrestlicious, Heyman-TNA, the end for Sting, and Daniel Bryan, new WWE Studios trailer, Aussie ratings, details on WWE Studios survey, TNA settles lawsuit, ex-TNA office worker corrects misconceptions, HBK interview, WWE tax breaks, Miz interview, Muppets hosting Raw, where JR was Sunday, new FCW Diva signing, Edge gives wrestling scholarship, Miz/B A Star, Jackman backstage, Hardy going to WWE-sponsored rehab, Smackdown rating, Wrestling's most awful angle, and interviews with Jackman and Cena

Paul Heyman briefly discussed the ending to Night of Champions. After giving it some second thoughts over the day, I'm optimistic that it will end up meaning big things for Miz and R-Truth, and it certainly didn't bury Punk like it could have. So, I'm ready to eat my words on it if WWE can pay it off big in the months to come.

WWE.com has some videos from backstage at Night of Champions, featuring Alberto Del Rio/Ricardo Rodriguez, and Beth Phoenix. I think follow-up could end up saving both of those endings as well.

PWInsider.com has some new questions for talk like a pirate day. Here arrrrre my own answers to them:
1. Don't give them any ideas. I really hope we avoid that maelstrom this go-round. That's still a good way away, though, fortunately. I get a feeling that even if we don't, there'll be some back and forth on legal issues and steroids and so on that will make me want to punch through the internet again. I'd gladly take WWE Studios commercials over some of the garbage that came out from the wrestling and non-wrestling media around that time.

2. Though the marketing behind it was quite ambitious, it doesn't look like we'll see more of Wrestlicious. That theme song was certainly memorable.

Anyway, after the break I go into the rest of they day's questions and news, starting with Paul Heyman possibly coming to TNA.

Raw thoughts- 9/19/11

Watch out, bub. Wolverine's coming to Raw. Well, kind of. Hugh Jackman's guest hosting the show following Night of Champions. We've got a new WWE Champion in John Cena, and Triple H is still COO after all hell broke loose in his match with C.M. Punk. With only 2 weeks until Hell In A Cell, will Cleveland, Ohio resemble the Danger Room? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

more from Punk and Austin, Questions on Punk vs. HBK, Air Boom, planning for a worst-case scenario, the future of the WWE tag team division, and TNA's 9/11 tribute, Sammartino update, HHH interview, Diva cleared to return, referee off suspension, Stratus interview, Flair injury, NoC dark match, and where to get the C.M. Punk ice cream bar shirt

C.M. Punk and Stone Cold Steve Austin had another brief back-and-forth on Twitter. No word on if that dream match will actually go down at any point. I'd certainly like it to.

PWInsider.com has some new questions for Sunday. Here's my look at them:
1. Hmm. Maybe. It's an interesting idea. But I don't see Michaels returning to the ring. That ship has almost certainly sailed. That would certainly be a match to see, though.

2. It's a little on the silly side, but apparently a lot of people suggested it so I see why they went with it. It does play off both competitors' personas, so it's a fair fit. Nothing amazing, but I certainly prefer it to Wind Walkers.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with one on how prepared WWE is for something like a massive plane crash with all of its talent.

WWE Night of Champions thoughts

Tonight WWE's COO Triple H returns to the ring to face C.M. Punk in a No Disqualifications match with his job on the line. Will the man with more World Title reigns than anyone in the company put away the Straight Edge Superstar, or will the Triple H Era end with a Go 2 Sleep? Plus, Alberto Del Rio defends his WWE Championship against John Cena, Randy Orton faces Mark Henry for the World Heavyweight Championship, and the rest of WWE's titles are at stake. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

WWE Night of Champions preview

Tonight's another PPV from WWE, and for a so-called "B show" it's pretty packed. Read on for how I'd book C.M. Punk vs. Triple H, Alberto Del Rio vs. John Cena, Randy Orton vs. Mark Henry, and the rest of the card.

Query on Goldberg-WWE, Christian and Trish videos, Questions on Sarita's mask, Nash-TNA, Robbie E, and Superstars, former member of Creative talks indies, Haas shoots down WWE return, and new names in FCW

First up, someone has a query on whether Goldberg is training to return to WWE. Not in the least. It is EXTREMELY unlikely that he'll ever be back in the company.

Christian has taken to Twitter to demand another World Title match, as videoed by WWE.com. Funny stuff.

Trish Stratus was also interviewed, discussing the Divas division. Good set up for the Night of Champions match.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news, starting with PWInsider.com's questions.

Saturday, September 17, 2011

New look for WWE.com, Orton talks HHH-Punk, ROH star signs with WWE, FCW star dropped?, more Johnny Ace, Heyman shoots down return, WWE CFO at investor conference, Questions on Dixie and Layla returning, Billy Kidman, and Sarita, More on Hogan's game, HBK at WWE HQ, Rock teaming with Cena at Survivor Series, Michaels the gamer, Hogan after Impact Wrestling, TNA stars in AAA, Impact Wrestling rating, WWE acquires indie film, Edge Appreciation gallery, and a match added to Night of Championss

WWE.com has undergone a face-lift. I'm honestly not crazy about it.

The site has posted video of Randy Orton talking about Triple H vs. C.M. Punk. Nice.

Update: There's also video of John Laurinaitis trying to find out who cut off C.M. Punk's mic on Raw. Not exactly compelling. On a related note, if they make Kevin Dunn an on-screen character, the angle will officially be WCW 2000 bad.

Ring Of Honor performer Claudio Castagnoli has officially signed a WWE developmental contract. He's already reported to FCW under the name Antonio Cesaro. I've heard a number of good things about him, and he's spoken highly of WWE in interviews, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what he brings to the table. As of yet, there's no word on his tag partner Chris Hero coming aboard, but he's also tried out with the company in the recent past.

Update: Castagnoli has changed his Twitter name to reflect the gimmick change. Awesome.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and PWInsider.com questions, beginning with a possible FCW release.

Smackdown thoughts- 9/16/11

It's only 2 nights away from WWE Night of Champions, and tonight's a really big show in Toronto. Hometown hero and Rated-R Superstars Edge comes back tonight to host The Cutting Edge. His guests are the competitors in Sunday's World Heavyweight Championship match, Randy Orton and Mark Henry! Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

New WWE merch deal, Ziggler and Phoenix interviews, Questions on Crimson, TNA's production, WWE's network, and playing Mr. McMahon,HHH talks Flair and MMA, DX hunting, Punk interview, TNA PPV glitch, big weekend for Kaitlyn, more on Matt Hardy, bonus footage from No Surrender, Knockout on DWTS?, podcast disses TNA, Foley website, WWE merch news, Z! TLIS #31, JR talks NoC, and WWE takes out a big loan

WWE has worked out a deal to license official party supplies. Little Jimmys want their Cena plates.

Dolph Ziggler was interviewed. He sounds rather driven. Good for him. I like that.

Beth Phoenix was also interviewed, promoting Night of Champions. Also good.

Update: Here's another interview. Kudos to Goldust for working with the Divas.

On to a look at PWInsider.com's questions:
1's pretty straightforward, so I'll start with 2. I think that's a doable idea, though it seems like something they should have done a while back if they wanted to do it. It would be kind of awkward for Tenay to suddenly have a statistic. If they did do it, they should show house show results like the BFG Series and have a little meter or graphic showing how many matches it's been without a loss. And it's definitely been long enough to do something similar to an angle from the late '90s. There's been more than enough change in the audiences since then.

3. TNA's shot like a documentary at times because they think that's the direction that wrestling needs to go. I like that they occasionally show wrestlers' reactions to what's going on in the ring. The story should be about someone trying to beat someone else. The moves are only part of that story. I agree that they get ADD with the camera at times, though.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with one on the WWE Network.

Superstars and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 9/15/11

Superstars is on WWE.com, with the Internet Champion Zack Ryder in action against Drew McIntyre! Well they continue the string of solid shows? Then on SpikeTV, Sting and Ric Flair go all Space Odyssey on us and do a match last seen in 2001. If Sting wins, he gets Hulk Hogan at Bound For Glory. If he loses, he leaves wrestling forever. If that wasn't huge enough, Bobby Roode comments on winning a World Title match at the biggest event in TNA history next month. And, what's next for Jeff Hardy after his return to the company? All that and more on Impact Wrestling. Read on for my thoughts on the shows as they happen.

Lethal interview, Questions on Matt Cappotelli, ref bumps, JR, confidentiality clauses, and Morrison, HHH talks in-ring future and live Smackdowns, boxer training for WWE, another Hardy DWI, Ryder-Ricardo and Edge appreciation videos, Edge advertised for PPV, new cover for WWE 12, new WWE soundtrack, Rima Fakih update, KOTR DVD news, Jericho involved in CD, and a new autobiography

Jay Lethal discussed TNA and ROH topics recently. I agree about the bottom half of TNA's card frequently  lacking direction. There are people there who people forget are part of the roster. There are always places for Sting, Hogan, etc. on the show, but others are lucky to get booked sometimes. As for the angle with Savage, I'm guessing it would end up leading to a big Hogan/Savage match that would get Hulk a lot of TV time and a big cut of the revenue. I don't think Lethal would be around for much of it. I continue to want to see Lethal get a shot in WWE if he'd be wiling to go to/through FCW for a while. He could reunite with the former Consequences Creed there. ROH going after the MMA fanbase would definitely be different from what WWE and TNA do, though it likely wouldn't win me over.

Wednesday brought new questions to PWInsider.com:
1. A small one. I'd bet against it personally.

2. I doubt it. That's one of the oldest spots in wrestling (not that there's necessarily a problem with that). Companies know that a lot of fans leave the product after seeing most of the tricks in the book, so they can keep using similar concepts over the years for the next generation. More long-term fans will call them on it. I suppose you can pretend that refs can only interfere in other matches when they're told to (otherwise what would prevent them from getting involved more often?), and ref bumps are part of the job when you're in that kind of hazardous environment. But the spot can certainly be overused. More than one in a match for instance can be ridiculous.

After the break, I look at the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with using JR in 2011.

Wrestling Netflix updates, Twitter updates, Foley Q&A, Questions on celebrities liking wrestling, the Monday Night Wars, the tree of woe, what year it is in wrestling, Benoit-Polanski, and questions, another Edge appearance, McCool update, Australian ratings, background on Punk promo, Flair on "Cleveland Show", Piper update, Angle interview, Raw rating, new WWE trademark, top Raw stars at Smackdown taping, special guests at Edge tribute show, and WWE plays off of Stacy Keibler's relationship

Here's an updated list of wresting-related releases on Netflix.

Gunner and Eric Young have said more about their recent tweets. I think we'll be seeing more of both of them in the future as TNA inevitably finds another wacky gimmick and/or situation for Young.

Mick Foley had another Q&A recently. I agree about TNA at times. And I can't be the only one picturing him telling those Border Patrol agents what it's like to be pulled over "RIGHT HERE, in Massena, New York" like only he can.

As for PWInsider.com's questions of Monday:
1. Let's see here. Rima Fakih and Maria Menounos come to mind first. Both are pretty down-to-earth, which is surprising yet cool. Shaq and Snoop Dogg to a degree. Eminem. Jenny McCarthy(?). I've honestly lost track of the celebrity appearances and the like over the years!

After the break I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with WWE's feelings during the Monday Night Wars.

NXT thoughts- 9/13/11

It's NXT Redemption Week 28, and if you're keeping score at home they're all competing to make it on to the next season of the show.  When is that? No one knows yet. It's been quite a while since an elimination, and we're not getting one tonight either. But, there's still a lot going on on the show. Read on for my thoughts on it as it happens.

Road Dogg/BG James interview, former X-Division Champion at No Surrender, Questions on a Cornette/Heyman team,Orton vs. Evolution, Hogan/Flair/Bischoff, stealing moves, and "popping", Rosa Mendes goes after Divas, Punk promotes Raw, UK TNA appearances, Piper surgery, McCool planning return?, Foley talks WWE and TNA, who would succeed HHH as COO?, Hogan talks TNA, Edge talks appearance, Gunner attacks "dirtsheets", Smackdown rating, and a champion not booked for Impact Wrestling tapings

The former Road Dogg, known in TNA as BG James, was interviewed about a number of past subject.  He had one of my favorite entrances of all time. Nice listen/read. The '90s was truly a magical era.

Homicide was visiting backstage at No Surrender. He really stood out as a competitor in the ring and on the mic; it's a shame he's not in TNA any longer.

PWInsider.com has some new questions up:
1. If their history is any indication, not well at all. The two personalities simply don't mesh and there was some bad blood there back "in the day". The booking philosophies are pretty different, too. One or both would end up leaving.

2. I suppose it was to hammer home that he was still a heel before that attack. He didn't embrace the fans as much as become a sympathetic figure after the beating in that face turn. That angle was kind of a head-scratcher, though. There's a reason they call a quick World Title reign ending in a crushing beatdown and de-push being "Ortoned". The reason Evolution turned on him was out of jealousy on HHH's part since his underling won the title.

3. I think they might have skipped Flair in their answer. It was recently reported that Hogan and Bischoff;s contracts might be up in a few months, so it looks like some signals have been crossed there. It's certainly not a lock that any of the three of them will re-sign. Hogan's had a number of clashes behind the scenes with Vince Russo, and as has been noted, hasn't exactly been the promoting face of the company he was when he first signed. So, he could very well leave for greener pastures. Flair's had heat with management as well, after the incident over pay in Europe a while back and not appearing in front of the crowd in New York. If someone else will pay him to wrestle, he'll probably jump as well. Bischoff's a little harder to call. He mainly came on board with Hogan, so if he leaves, Bischoff might go, too. Of course, things could change over the next couple of months, but as things stand now, I wouldn't put money on them being around in 6 months.

4. It's kind of a case-by-case thing in my book. Sometimes a certain move is so associated with a wrestler that it's hard to separate the two. The Stunner, Tombstones, Pedigrees, that kind of thing. There's a time frame involved in my book before someone can "take" a move. Angle's been gone from WWE for so long that it's probably ok for Orton to use his Slam. If Mason Ryan starts doing the Batista Bomb, though, it's going to get some criticism.

5. I wish I could find the clip of Al Snow explaining the difference between a cheer and a pop in wrestling terminology. I can't explain it as well (or as colorfully) as he did, but here's an explanation in my own words: For one thing, the term pop is thrown around way too much. Think of it like a volcano. It might rumble every so often, and get quite loud in doing so, but it only truly erupts under the right conditions. A pop is the eruption. You have to really build to get to a true pop. There are also what Snow called "fireworks" reactions which are the "oohs" and "ahhs" for big spots. These are NOT pops and should not be construed as such. I recommend checking out Snow's interviews on what works (and doesn't) in wrestling; he knows his stuff.

Smackdown Diva Rosa Mendes made a number of less-than-polite comments about some up-and-coming female members of the roster, AJ in particular. If she wanted attention, she got it. I'm assuming (and hoping) this is storyline-based. Great heel promo if so. It did take me a while to place some of the references though. I assume Aksana's the one who looks 40 and Kaitlyn "needs to be on Jenny Craig" (though she's in better shape than she was on NXT). Maybe this becomes part of a rookies vs. veterans feud?

C.M. Punk gave an interview to promote the Raw taping in Ottawa. Nice read. I think we'll be seeing more of the Divas of Doom as the angle progresses. His talk with WWE Magazine was also very intriguing.

A number of TNA stars will be in Scotland on 9/28, and Mickie James will be in White City in London on 9/29.

"Rowdy" Roddy Piper underwent surgery on his broken neck, which had been troubling him for some time. He's still a fighter; he wrestled through it. TMZ.com picked up the story.

Some are taking a tweet by Michelle McCool as a possible indication of a return to WWE. I'm less sureI'd like to see it, though.

Mick Foley discussed his time in TNA and possible future time in WWE with The Sun. I'd like to see him as a guest host and/or ambassador for WWE. A match putting over, say, Cody Rhodes, Wade Barrett, or another guy needing that boost into the top tier would be nice as well. Maybe he could be the Smackdown GM and give people more of a reason to watch that show. As for TNA, it's hard to blame him for being frustrated there. There are others who could be considered wastes of resources who are still on the roster.

WWE.com speculated on who would replace Triple H should he lose at Night of Champions. That's definitely a big story in wrestling right now. I'm curious on that one, and who's to say it's anyone on that list?

Hulk Hogan discussed a number of TNA topics, including getting back in the ring and legal troubles for the roster. TNA pretty much has to put him in the ring based on current storylines. There could really be a flop upcoming for them there. As for the legal issues, there needs to be more liability. If they have to get Kurt a taxi or something, so be it. He and Jeff should pretty much be on their last straws for the company. If they're just going to continue bringing bad press, it's coming time to cut them loose. Name value or no name value, this is getting ridiculous.

Edge talked about the twilight of his career in relation to his next WWE appearance. As much benefit as there is to using him, at some point it's going to be time to let him go. I don't know how much longer he has under his contract, but if he doesn't want to be there much longer, maybe they should work something out in that regard.

TNA's Gunner had some less than flattering things to say about wrestling news sites and other internet fans. Presumably this isn't part of a storyline. Twitter just isn't working out for some people it looks like. I kind of see his point about "fans" but I don't really see what good it does bashing people.

Smackdown did a 1.93 rating on Friday. Pretty good. Hopefully that number stays in that area and/or goes up in the weeks to come.

Eric Young won't be at this week's Impact Wrestling tapings. Presumably they're out of sketches for him. Maybe they're thinking of changing his character or something? Three weeks is a long time without him.

That's all for Monday's news. More to come tomorrow. Thanks for reading!

Raw thoughts- 9/12/11

We're less than a week from a pretty stacked card at WWE Night of Champions. The Voice of the Voiceless C.M. Punk will face off with The King of Kings Triple H in a No DQ match with the latter's COO job at stake. Also, WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio will put his status as the Essence of Excellence up against the Dynasty himself, John Cena. How will all of the parties involved and more interact tonight on the Raw Supershow? Plus, a WWE Hall of Famer is in the house! Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Questions on Matt Hardy-TNA, the WWE Hall of Fame, wrestlers as bookers, great promo guys, and the lineage of the WWE Title, WWE Studios looking for feedback, WWE employees remember 9/11, big names advertised for upcoming Smackdown taping, house show note

Sunday's news begins with questions sent in to PWInsider.com. Here's my take on them:
1. He isn't banned from attending or visiting at them as far as I know, but I doubt they'd be looking to re-sign him or put him on camera.

2. Given how relatively few wrestling fans know who she is, I don't think the odds are that good.

3. That's a tough call. I don't know enough of their mindsets to make an educated enough guess on some of them. I've heard Raven's name thrown around a lot as well, though. Foley, Taz, and Finlay stand a good chance of working out there, however. I wonder how Jerry Lawler would do, given his history in Memphis. Part of me wants to put Triple H in there as well, but I think there'd be a mixed reaction to that choice. Maybe Stone Cold? Then again, he was high on Mr. Anderson and Andy Leavine, so he and I seem to have different philosophies.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's questions and news, starting with a look at some great all-time talkers.

TNA No Surrender thoughts

Tonight, Kurt Angle defends his World Heavyweight Championship against both Sting and Mr. Anderson in a Triple Threat match. Who will walk out with the Title? Meanwhile, Bully Ray, James Storm, Bobby Roode, and Gunner all compete to determine the winner of the Bound For Glory Series. What match will headline when TNA heads to Philadelphia next month? All this and plenty more at TNA No Surrender. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

TNA No Surrender preview

Tonight, TNA presents its final PPV before Bound For Glory. The World Championship is on the line as Kurt Angle faces Sting and Mr. Anderson, and the Bound For Glory Series comes to an end as Bully Ray, James Storm, Bobby Roode, and Gunner all compete for the #1 Contendership. Other title matches and grudge matches fill out the card. Read on for how I'd book the event!

Linda McMahon at CT Women's Expo, another HHH interview, update on possible 3-hour Impact Wrestling, Questions on Angle returning to WWE, Kelly turning heel, Mickie vs. Tessmacher, and HHH-Punk, Survivor Series sells out, Rhodes interview, Booker MCing indy show, Regal update, Mickie discusses possible WWE return, and another Orton DVD preview

Linda McMahon was at a women's convention in Connecticut, which WWE's Alex Riley and Kaitlyn also officially attended. However, the appearances weren't in conjunction and there are no plans for the former CEO to return.

Triple H talked about a number of topics in another interview for "Inside Out". There were some nice little jabs in there to a number of former wrestlers and guest hosts. He's quickly becoming one of my favorite interviews because he can say just about anything he wants to and get away with it.

Spike TV is no longer advertising a 3-hour edition of Impact Wrestling in October. This either means it was a mistake, they changed their minds, or they don't want to announce it yet.

PWInsider.com is back to having daily questions. Here are my thoughts on those for 9/10:
1. Barring a falling out with TNA, there doesn't seem to be much of a chance of seeing Angle back in WWE. Three years from now is three years from now, but he wouldn't want to work their schedule and he'd have to pass their health tests. Given the number of injuries he's had over the years, including concussions, he might not clear.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's questions and news, starting with whether Kelly Kelly would work as a heel.

Saturday, September 10, 2011

More on Hardy plea deal, HHH on HBK's show, TNA appearances, BFG match, new merch deal for TNA, Impact Wrestling post show, more "Inside Out" reviews, No Surrender hype package, HHH interviews, where to vote for Punk in Australian KCA, ex-WWE employee talks 9/11, NoC ticket giveaway, Kofi promotes house show, match added to No Surrender, possible new developmental territory discussed, WWE.com talks with Aksana and Laurinaitis, Impact Wrestling rating, Regal wants World Title match, and an interesting WWE trademarktling

A few more details have been released about Jeff Hardy's plea deal. I'm looking forward to that interview. He's got a lot of pressure on him to show that he's turned around.

Update: Here's more, including comments from Hardy's attorney. He's pretty good at his job, apparently. Unless someone else in the case was particularly bad at theirs. Given that no one pointed out that not all wrestling fans want violence and Hardy only uses ladders on occasions, it might be wise to lean towards the latter.

Triple H will appear on Shawn Michaels' outdoors show this coming Tuesday, as well as on the following episode.

Christy Hemme and Devon will be at a Direct Auto Insurance in Orlando on 9/10 for an autograph signing.

In what's technically a minor spoiler, Rob Van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn is currently scheduled for Bound For Glory. With that event taking place in Philadelphia, they're looking to capitalize on whatever remnants of the old ECW audience are still there.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news, starting with a new deal for TNA.

Smackdown thoughts- 9/9/11

The World's Strongest Man continues on his warpath tonight, just 9 days away from his clash with Randy Orton. Meanwhile, the World Heavyweight Champion faces off with his former associate, Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes. All this and plenty more tonight. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Punk on-stage with band, HHH talks "Inside Out", Questions on Punk-ratings, straight-edge, the WWE Hall, an Eve heel turn, Cole, HHH in charge, TNA-Hardy, and the best comedy character, Lawler interview, WWE switches locations of PPV and Raw, Angle signs 3-year TNA deal, Punk up for Australian Kids' Choice Award, Z! True Long Island Story #30, Hardy court case finally settled, Hogan goes through a match, JBL talks Del Rio and Vampiro, Bischoff talks Hardys, champs and challengers look at the name Air Boom, 3-hour Impact Wrestling next month, Gunner interview, Miz at boxing press conference, and TNA pushes Hardy DVD, Miz at ?

C.M. Punk was on-stage with the band H2O recently.

Triple H was interviewed about "Inside Out". His remarks about working with talented talkers made me think of how comfortable he's seemed working with Punk recently.

There's a double dose of PWInsider.com questions to look at today:
#1's a repeat, but as for 2. There would seem to be a correlation in the increase in PPV buys and merch sales for Punk and him being a draw, so the ratings decrease could be indicative of them mishandling his character from there. Him losing the title to Del Rio was fine (if done too early), but going from Cena to Nash and HHH (who he doesn't match up with as well) hasn't worked out too well.

3. Everything I've heard about him suggests that his straight-edge lifestyle's legitimate. I'm not sure about how things like aspirin figure into that. I've seen more than one take on whether things like that are "allowed" in the practice, and I don't know which sect Punk falls into.

4. It's true, but plans are still TBD/TBA.

5. I suppose it could happen at some point, but I don't see a reason to do it yet. She seems pretty natural as a face.

After the break, I go into the other set of questions, and all of the rest of the day's news, starting with why Cole's on TV so much.

Superstars and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 9/8/11

It's Thursday so there's a new 3 hours of wrestling available for viewing. On Superstars, NXT alumni Daniel Bryan and Heath Slater go one-on-one. Can Mr. Money In The Bank knock off the One Man Southern Rock Band? Then, on Impact Wrestling, it's the return of Jeff Hardy. What will change with the former World Champion back in the fold? Also, Eric Young faces off with Robbie E for the TNA Television Title! Read on for my thoughts on the shows as they happen.

Query on TNA-Fox, more back-and-forth on Angle's DWI, Questions on concerts during PPVs, Summerslam, Goldberg, Eric Young, and Lawler-Vickie, promo for Hardy's return, HHH film reviewed, Nash released (?), HHH interviews, MMA star on Impact Wrestling, new head of WWE Studios named, Angle reveals No Surrender main event and gives his picks for future TNA main eventers, note on WWE Superstars, and the Raw rating

For a query someone sent in: as far as I know there hasn't been any kind of talk between TNA and Alicia Fox. As of this writing, she's still under contract to WWE and I haven't seen any indication that that will change any time soon.

Virginian police report that in an initial breathalyzer test, Kurt Angle blew a 0.091 BAC, above their legal limit. He also failed a number of field sobriety tests. The 0.06 was from a secondary test at the station. This seems pretty clear cut, barring some kind of crazy swerve. This is wrestling, after all.

Update: OBJECTION! Angle's attorneys have responded. They bring up potential fair points, but the field sobriety tests were still failed.

On to PWInsider.com's questions:
1. No one's actually making you watch it. You had the choice of not ordering the PPV if you were upset by the performance. WWE has a history of having things like concerts during big shows, dating back at least to the first WrestleMania. Not that it's something I want to see, but it gets them publicity and mainstream appeal. If someone's a Cee Lo fan, it potentially increased them wanting to see a show they might not have wanted to see otherwise. Wrestling crowds who paid to see wrestling will understandably be miffed at that, but I can see why they go that route.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with a look at Summerslam's ending.

Wednesday, September 7, 2011

What happened after Raw, Hansen autobiography out, top WWE prospect injured, more coverage of Angle DWI, Grisham, Laurinaitis as GM, Benoit as World Champ, and contacting TNA, Raw commentary update, new UK deal with WWE.com, Impact Wrestling rating, HHH in charity endeavor, Angle disputes DWI, Foley interview, more from Edge, Australian ratings, Karen Jarrett talks Knockouts, new WWE developmental signing, the Smackdown replay rating, and Rolling Stone covers Collins at WWE show

After Raw went off the air, C.M. Punk chased Ricardo Rodriguez back into the ring, where he received an Attitude Adjustment. Punk and Cena eventually shook hands at the crowd's urging. Great bit.

"The Lariat" Stan Hansen's autobiography is now officially available.

Bo Rotundo, one of the top stars in FCW, has suffered a lacerated kidney and will miss 3-4 months. Before his injury, he was a multiple-time FCW Champion, and he was being considered to be brought up to the main roster. That's very unfortunate, and sounds quite painful. Given how much he's been pushed and some of the opinions I've heard on him, I'm very curious to see him if he does eventually make it to the Raw or Smackdown brand. They could either put him on a future season of NXT or have him team with his brother Husky Harris. Or, they could do NXT leading to a team with Husky. Whatever floats their boat.

The story of Kurt Angle's most recent DWI was picked up by another news outlet. I'm split as to whether TNA should acknowledge this on-screen and/or off. I think they can actually use the incident to add heat to his character (not that they necessarily should). Also, when your World Champion's caught in something that's that big of a deal, you'd think there'd be a public statement on the matter, or at least some indication that the company might do something about it. When RVD was WWE and ECW Champion and he was caught with drugs, they got the titles off of him at the next TV tapings and suspended him for 30 days. I don't think TNA would do the same.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with a story on TNA's Rosita discussing 9/11.

NXT thoughts- 9/6/11

Last week on NXT.... was a clip show. Not much to build on. Derrick Bateman (with the vindictive Maxine), Titus O'Neil (with the jovial Hornswoggle and AJ), and Darren Young (by himself and loving it) continue their journeys towards NXT Season 6. We're at 27 weeks and counting tonight. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Questions on Cabana-WWE, wrestling schools, Cena as Champion, the WWE Title, and Mick Foley, brand split update, A-lister to host Raw, WWE promotes Foley endeavor, Punk and Cena sing, Angle responds to DWI, more on Diva article, new TNA signee talks "Big Brother", JBL talks return, WWE.com looks at Internet Title, Rock "returning to action"?, Raw dark match, and press for WWE Network

Today's news starts off with PWInsider.com's questions. Here's my take on them:
1. Cabana worked a dark match for the company in August, but as of yet hasn't been signed by them. The company's still going through a big restructuring, and a good number of people got tryouts in the recent past, so they could still be going through who they want to sign. It's hard to tell which direction they'll end up going on him or any other talent who recently tried out. In the meantime, Cabana's part of the Wrestling Revolution Project along with the former Daivari, MVP, Kenny Dykstra, and Luke Gallows. I don't know how that affects or doesn't affect the possibility of him being signed by a major company. He's got to be one of the biggest free agents right now. WWE, TNA, and ROH should be looking to sign him.

2. I can't really top their answer, but to add to it, check out where some of your favorite wrestlers (or stars you want to be somewhat similar to) got their starts.

3. There are plenty of fans who wanted someone other than Cena to be champion. I can definitely see those criticisms. Rey did lose the title in his second match of the night, though (and he has two matches the previous week), so he's somewhat safe in that regard. Despite their answer, I see Rey as a credible champion. He doesn't have to beat someone up to beat them. He has the technique and agility to win.

After the break, I look at what it would take to get a new WWE Championship, and the rest of the day's news and questions.

Raw thoughts- 9/5/11

Tonight's another Raw Supershow put on by WWE COO Triple H. The man in charge can do basically anything he wants to, and tonight he proves that by getting in the ring! Who will he face and how will it go? Plus, WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio returns from his absence. The Raw and Smackdown superstars are in attendance on a big Labor Day show. Read on for my thoughts as it happens.

Shots fired after house show, Questions on match series, the WWE style, and Warrior-Sting, trailer for Hart/HBK DVD, another celebrity at WWE house show, Diva article causes controversy, UK ratings, Rosita profiled in 9/11 piece, Jarrett and MVP talk, and Angle arrested for DWI

Shots were reported as fired after a WWE house show in Trenton, NJ. Thankfully there are no reports of injury or worse.

As for PWInsider.com's Sunday questions:
1. I think we've seen enough Kofi/Dolph for now. I like both, but having them face off again in a long series feel pretty redundant and stale. Swagger and Bourne would be interesting, though the latter's tag team title win sort of shoots that one for the time being. Miz and Riley I could go either way on... in general I'm not crazy about an official Best Of series. For one, it pretty much always gives away how many matches it will go and it's tough to being new things to the table when you're facing the same opponent over and over. Daniel Bryan vs. Sin Cara would be an intriguing idea for one in my book.

2. Some wrestlers are indeed willing to give or receive advice from others backstage. Of course, WWE and TNA also have agents/producers whose job it is to pass on knowledge of how to work matches.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with a potential all-female WrestleMania match.

Sunday, September 4, 2011

Jarrett talks possible TNA name change and more,Questions on the economy and wrestling, The Rock's NBC show, Traci, and ODB/Jackie, musician visits at WWE house show, Foley talks WWE return, Riley and Kaitlyn at Women's Expo, future Mae Young match?, yet another house show change,a Punk promo, and "dream" interbrand matches

Jeff Jarrett discussed a number of TNA topics when promoting upcoming house shows. I'd personally find it a little odd if the company just went by Impact Wrestling. It doesn't flow off the tongue in the same way as a brief acronym. It could very well go down at some point, though. And it could work. The 6-sided ring thing is something I'm really surprised that people still care about. I certainly stopped caring about it a long time ago. Staying on Thursdays is good for them. All in all an interesting interview.

PWInsider.com has some new questions for Saturday:
1. Indeed they have. Like pretty much every other industry, they're testing which prices to sell things at. I think they'd do better business if they dropped PPVs in price some, but they have their reasons to think otherwise.

2. It's in the very early stages, so there's not much known about it at the moment. I'm somewhat intrigued.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with an update on Traci Brooks.

Query on Low Ki-TNA, Questions on Knockouts, the Hardys, promotions paying for surgeries, and Nash vs. Punk, update on DGUSA talents to WWE, R-Truth interview, Marella in car accident, WWE lawsuit dismissed, Del Rio update, another Supershow house show, and Angle apologizes

Today starts off with a query:
I don't see Low Ki going back to TNA right now, considering they haven't signed him post-Destination X like some of their other new X-Division additions. It could happen down the line, but both sides would have to be happy with the arrangement and that's no guarantee with him.

PWInsider.com has some new questions up:
1. I don't necessarily see a correlation between them releasing Cookie and not signing new Knockouts. I believe it was just a case of her contract being up and them not using her anyway. They are doing more with the Knockouts division with the "Knockouts Law" storyline, so it's possible we'll see some new faces under the "new regime". ODB, Jackie, and possibly Traci have returned, but that might be it for now.

2. I can see that theory, and also the one that they're not as big of a deal as they used to be. But, Jeff's had drug problems going back years, and Matt just explained some of his issues, so that might not be it. I agree that they're not "Hardy Boys" anymore. Hardys will suffice.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with promotions paying for surgeries.

Friday, September 2, 2011

October PPV posters, Questions on Goldberg-TNA, Baio vs. Young, Eve vs. Kelly, and AJ Lee, Angle ticked off at WWE and training for Olympics, Orton DVD previews, Goldberg shoots on WWE, WWE.com talks with Cena about Del Rio, Waylon Mercy interview, Crimson removed from BFG Series, Hardy apologizes for recent actions, USA proud of Raw, Kaitlyn appearance, interviews with Jerry Jarrett and Shad, former Creative member blogs, and No Surrender matches made

InDemand has released posters for WWE Hell in a Cell and Vengeance. Those are pretty cool.

PWInsider.com has some new questions up:
There's nothing to add to #1 since it's pretty straight-forward. As for 2: Not really. I don't see him ending up there at all any time soon. They've had how long to try to sign him if they wanted him?

3. Ron Howard, who Young would immediately reference Andy Griffith to. That won't happen.

4. Meh. It's not really on my dreams match list. It could theoretically turn out ok though.

After the break, I look at the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with a look at AJ Lee's improvements on Smackdown.

Superstars and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 9/1/11

It's a big day for wrestling with 3 hours of WWE and TNA on tap. John Morrison takes on R-Truth in a big Superstars match, while Impact Wrestling features Kurt Angle vs. Sting for the World Championship with Hulk Hogan as the special referee. Winter defends the Knockouts Championship against Mickie James, longtime rivals AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels face off, and we get news regarding the return of Jeff Hardy. All in all, some pretty big shows. Read on for my thoughts on them as they happen.

Impact Wrestling preview- 9/1/11

Tonight's a pretty big edition of Impact Wrestling. Big enough to get its own preview column. Read on for how I'd try to wrap my head around TNA's booking to set up future storylines going into No Surrender next Sunday.

Edge back on WWE TV?, more reactions to Hardy video, Questions on the WWP, the WGTT, and Hogan doing jobs, "boring" tag teams, Angle talks MMA , Rhodes not going green, update on 3DS All-Stars, Del Rio update, Smackdown rating, Warrior Q&A, update on Hardy's TNA return and a Punk interview

Edge is being advertised for the 9/13 Smackdown taping in Toronto. Maybe he can be the guest GM?

The Fayetteville Observer has a story on Matt Hardy's latest YouTube video. He had to have known it would have gotten that kind of reaction. It didn't say "I'm changing my ways, and the old me is done". It was much more (deliberately?) vague, which worried a lot of people.

Update: Shane Helms commented on the matter. I agree that he can't be held responsible for what are ultimately Matt's actions. I think fans are looking for someone to help Matt out, but all the help in the world will only go so far if he doesn't make his own efforts to improve.

Hardy had a number of further updates on Twitter. I hope he's serious about undergoing a big change. I'm willing to give him a chance to prove us all wrong, but he's got his work cut out for him and it'll be a long process.

TMZ.com also commented, as did Jim Ross.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and PWInsider.com's questions.
