Del Rio-AAA update, Smackdown audience, NXT live event notes, Flair to be profiled, Interviews with Bubba Ray/Nash, and Questions on watching Smackdown, WWE signings, a WCW/ECW game, and bringing back guest hosts

It doesn't look like Alberto Del Rio will be working any TV tapings for AAA due to his WWE commitments. At this point, it's unknown when or how he'll drop his championship there. It could just be that he's stripped of the title and doesn't appear for AAA at all.

Update: Del Rio was advertised for events with AAA on Nov.1 and Nov. 15. He isn't advertised for WWE events on those dates yet, so it's possible he does work the AAA shows in order to drop his championship there. WWE should definitely let AAA use him for what he's already been advertised for.

Smackdown's audience Thursday was 2.17 million. The show's in quite a slump.

Everything else from yesterday is after the break.

Everett update, more on Bucks-ROH, Regal has surgery, Lesnar+Cena return updates, Rusev injured, TNA+ROH audience, Interviews with Jackyl/Cyrus+Busick, Rose family tragedy, and Questions on turning Ambrose, who stops the Wyatts, blading, and biggest missed opportunities by WWE

Andrew Everett will be missing EVOLVE dates due to his as-yet-undiagnosed knee injury.

The Young Bucks will continue to work other indie promotions and NJPW with their ROH deal. There were offers from NXT, TNA, and LU, but none gave them that level of flexibility. I'm glad they're doing something that will keep them doing what they love.

William Regal has undergone another neck surgery. He had been planning on returning to the ring as either a trainer or competitor, but that's now on hold at the very least. He will not be at WWE's UK tour of England, but will be part of the NXT tour there. I hope he can still contribute, even if it won't be in a physical sense.

WWE injury, ROH locks in tag team, WWE announces new signings to NXT, Taker set for upcoming taping, another Raw visitor, Mendes note, change to UK tour lineup, NXT names working live events, and Questions on PPVs on the Network, wrestlers caring about winning, Team BAD, pushing back against Creative, and Del Rio's return

Rusev is believed to have torn his biceps during his match with Neville on Main Event. He was at least injured in some way, because the match was cut short. I hope his momentum doesn't get halted from this.

The Young Bucks have officially signed contracts with ROH, ending heir runs as free agents. That means I don't have to see them in NXT, so I'm all for it. Save that overly choreographed crap for the circus.

Update: their contracts have been confirmed to be for longer than a year. Even better! Maybe when that's done, they'll be willing to learn how to actually work a match in somewhere like NXT.

Stone Cold-Raw note, Brock podcast edited, WWE returns and another potential one, Vince blows a gasket, TNA injury, Raw audience, Christian update, and Questions on teaming Ambrose/Reigns, a WWE return, Goldberg's streak, seeing more of Taker, and Taker's legacy

The Stone Cold segment from Raw was shot during Summerslam weekend. It would be crazy to fly Austin out just for a cameo when they could tape it beforehand.

Brock Lesnar's reference to "feeding the Jew" was cut from the archived version of his podcast with Stone Cold. Heyman has referred to himself as "Brock's Jew," but out of context, someone could potentially be offended and that's the last thing WWE wants.

The Usos are expected to be back on TV soon. They'd be perfect opponents for New Day.

WWE also has talked about bringing back Eugene in some form (possibly as a coach). Hopefully he could come back as a less offensive gimmick and work some great matches. He was really talented.

Top ROH name hurt, another also missing time, big implications for Del Rio's return, more on Cena's absence, Orton update, other names at HIAC, HIAC bumps and bruises, Where was Xavier?, more on Slipknot vs. NXT, and Questions on Vince in 1985, the Bellas as workers, gimmick match PPVs, Charlotte vs. Sasha, and Breeze being called up

AJ Styles did not work ROH's recent TV tapings due to a back injury suffered in NJPW. It's hoped he'll be fine in time for Final Battle in December.

ACH pulled himself from another independent date after his concussion. I wish him the best.

Albero Del Rio had discussions with TNA before returning to WWE. That's another big name that slipped through their fingers. I don't know how much a difference he could have really made, but he's definitely incredibly talented.

Alberto Del Rio remains AAA's top champion. He's expected to be able to finish out his dates there. As glad as I am for him to be back, it really screwed AAA over.

ROH taping notes, NXT live event notes, Gaburick on TNA in India, HIAC visitors, and Questions on NXT ignoring TNA, NXT outperforming WWE, Crews as the next Cena, bringing back squashes, and the indies drying up

At ROH's recent TV tapings:
Samson Walker defeated Hakim Zane in a Future of Honor dark match.

Leah Von Dutch beat Crazy Mary in another dark match.

ACH suffered a concussion at the first taping leading to him missing the second one.

Kongo beat the Outlaw in another dark match for ROH. ROH as a whole might be going dark in a little over a month as far as their DA deal is concerned.

Superstars Reax - 10/24/15, ROH title change note, Harper-WWE update, new names official for TNA, and Questions on Cena's open challenge and RVD returning

Superstars:
- Slater vs. Fandango:
Both these wrestlers are somewhat guilty pleasures of mine. I'd rather watch these two "sports entertain" than a lot of ROH stars wrestle.

Good work so far.

Fine match.

Nice Ryder promo.

- Stardust vs. Ryder:
Stardust is a talented performer who sometimes needed a little extra when he was just Cody Rhodes. This gimmick is helping him in the entertainment department.

Not a bad match at all.

Major new market for Network, Smackdown audience, title change in ROH, and Questions on WWE movies on the Network, WWE buying more libraries, and the best ECW PPV

WWE Network has officially launched in India. That's great news going into their next financial results conference call.

Smackdown's audience Thursday was 2.20 million for the last show before Hell in a Cell.

Roderick Strong defeated Jay Lethal at an ROH live event to become the new TV Champion. Lethal remains the World Champion there. That's kind of anti-climactic, but it's important to keep in mind ROH is about athleticism, not stories.

Update on former ECW Champion retiring, Storm on NXT debut, Sarita-WWE update, Interviews with Kofi/Bubba, match set for TTTT, more on Brock's botched Mania moment, NXT tryout, another WWE hopeful, a boost for EVOLVE, TNA+ROH audiences, Storm-NXT update, and Questions on sticking it to Punk, Goldberg challenging Cena, Corbin pre-WWE, signing TE performers, and starting to watch NWA/WCW

There was a rumor circulating that the former Ezekiel Jackson is retiring soon. That story is false. He's still taking independent bookings. I wonder if TNA or GFW should give him a look if they need another hoss to slam people around.

James Storm talked to WWE.com about debuting in NXT. There are some fun potential matches for him there and in WWE as a whole. He's not officially signed yet, but it sounds like he enjoyed his debut.

The former Sarita has not officially started as a coach in NXT yet, but is expected to do so soon.

Kofi Kingston talked about his workouts and more. I picture him lifting dumbbells while Xavier shouts to stay positive.

Read on for my thoughts on last night's NXT and ROH.

More TE cast members signed, NXT debut in WWE official, and Questions on Vince passing the torch, the reactions in NXT, Alex Riley, and taking Naomi seriously

WWE has officially signed Patrick Clark from Tough Enough. Also starting at the Performance Center recently were Mada Abdelhamid and Daria Berenato, who competed on the show as well. It will be interesting to see who from that show succeeds.

WWE officially announced Tyler Breeze as debuting on Smackdown before the show went on the air. They'll have to be careful in how they use him, but I think he has the tools to succeed.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. He's spent decades making WWE what he wants it to be. He won't give that up easily! It's so much easier to blame millennials or whatever than think he's the person who needs to step aside.

2. NXT isn't nearly as heavily produced or exposed. It's still that cool unsigned indie band that hasn't "sold out" to release generic music that plays it safe.

Nothing to add to 3. He had a decent comedy run.

4. He was more or less moved to NXT in order to eventually step back in the ring. Once he recovers, I suspect he'll be there again.

5. I think she does a good enough job to where we can still believe she's capable of kicking some ass.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Orton update, NXT name to main roster update, ROH name signs exclusive deal, Breaking Ground news, more on Harper being pulled from TV, Raw audience, Questions on Brock's booking, Sheamus cashing in, the World Title Series, the Hardys returning to WWE, and turning TNA around

There isn't 100% confirmation on this, but there is speculation Randy Orton has legitimately suffered an injury of some sort, hence him being pulled from wrestling. That would be problematic with Cena taking time off soon. WWE's only got a few really "made" guys, so having two out at once is an issue.

Update: Orton injured his shoulder in Mexico. There's no timetable for how long he'll be out, but he wasn't at Raw. I'm sure WWE wants him back for Mania season.

There's talk of Tyler Breeze officially becoming part of the main roster, but he is scheduled for NXT events at least through the UK tour. They could presumably write him off at Takeover:London or at the tapings following that to officially move him up.

Stone Cold podcast Reax, TNA in India official, TNA partnering with Khali, Apter autobiography, more names to NXT?, TE name starts at WWEPC, more on Zayn-EVOLVE, Y2J update, top NXT name on the road, NXT renaming, backstage at Raw, Bram's back, more nostalgia merch, HIAC Kickoff match totlaly changed, and Questions on the Raw wedding proposal, Shane back on TV, NXT at WM32, Brock on Austin's podcast, and changing the Network

Stone Cold podcast:
- Austin vs. Brock in their primes would have been all kinds of badass.

- Brock's been hyped so much for his ability I can't blame him if he's cocky! Look at the contract he has!

- Brock's work ethic from the training days shows. He's a modern Hercules.

- Humbling experiences are important, especially given Brock's walkout.

- I wish more younger names learned from the veterans.

- I picture Brock having a big dungeon.

- Brock had some huge balls for flipping the bird to the fans and to Vince.

- Brock doesn't NEED to cut long promos.

- Brock also has balls for not being a mark about the Streak. The suits can't break people who aren't marks for winning titles, going on last, etc..

More on Rose being hurt, more Zayn-EVOLVE notes, and Questions on headlining HIAC, Vince retiring, Fandango, employees vs. independent contractors, and title prestige

Adam Rose was held out of competing at a live event Sunday due to concern over a concussion. I hope he bounces back.

Sami Zayn was said to have enjoyed himself a lot at EVOLVE 49. The indies are a special place.

At EVOLVE 50, for the live audience, Zayn interacted with Ethan Page and EVOLVE Champion Timothy Thatcher. I don't think I'd mind a special NXT-EVOLVE event (or at least a few matches here and there). I don't know the odds of that happening, though. EVOLVE wasn't allowed to show Zayn on their iPPVs due to his exclusive contract with WWE/NXT.

NXT+WWE live event notes, Interview with Santino, Rose injured, EVOLVE-WWE note, another TE signing in the works, and Questions on dropping the Diva name, rebooking Sting's WWE run, and Kharma-WWE

Here's a report from another NXT live event this weekend:
- Louis working with LeFort is kind of a reboot, since they did that previously as the Legionnaires. I enjoyed Louis' monster gimmick, although it was kind of limiting since he didn't really cut promos beyond weird screaming noises. He played it well, though, and it was different from everything else on the roster.

- I'm curious as to whether we'll see Cameron work NXT TV now.

- It is kind of odd to have Joe work in front of small crowds, but he also gets to be part of the bigger shows they do, and is front and center for a really hot brand.

Superstars Reax - 10/16/15, NXT live event notes including HoFer in attendance, big change to Smackdown in 2016?, NXT sells out again, press for Phillips/Sheamus, Smackdown audience, and Questions on backstage HoFers, Breeze's NXT song, debuting Enzo+Cass, Strowman's invincibility, and Chicago at Raw

Superstars:
Personally, Adam Rose is just getting "go away" heat from me. This gimmick has pretty much run its course.

- Swagger vs. Rose:
Rose really isn't bad in the ring. He's got a lot of pre-WWE experience.

I'm enjoying the heel work by Rose. He can do some things effectively.

Good match!

- Stardust vs. Fandango:
This is going pretty well so far. I think both men are fine workers.

Good match for the time it got and where it was on the card. I like seeing both of them in action.

WWE promotes EVOLVE, WWE-WWNLive update, Interviews with Hogan/Lawler/Vampiro, TNA and ROH audiences, and Questions on titles being vacated, the TNA video library, the Network, and Finkel

WWE is promoting this weekend's EVOLVE events. This is something I really never thought I'd see. All Hail Haitch, etc.. I think it's a great move for the future of an industry that's really in some trouble if WWE doesn't develop the stars of the next generation.

- I hope Johnny Gargano becomes an NXT guy. He's been really impressive so far.
- I've seen Nese a few times in TNA. Maybe he'd do better outside the X-Division mold.

The WWE/WWNLive relationship is said to be one that's still coming together. WWE has not purchased the company, but the two sides are obviously working together in some form. This is something we haven't seen since WWF worked with ECW more than 15 years ago. I hope it works out as well for both sides as that relationship did.

Jay Lethal vs. Roderick Strong is set for ROH's next TV taping on Oct. 23. They can do a LOT of moves with each other.

ROH talents are expected to work the big Jan. 4 show in Japan. That's pretty big for them!

Dalton Castle talked about what makes him stand out in ROH. Him having a big persona definitely adds contrast to the really bland wrestlers there.

Query on Athena-NXT, GFW taping note, HIAC Kickoff match official, Raw guest, biopic on WWE legend coming, Del Rio on missing European shows, NXT branching out, WWE-ESPN deal, update on former WWE Champion returning, more on Zayn-EVOLVE, WWE press, Raw audience, and Questions on cord cutting, Suplex City, credible main eventers, and headlining Raw

First up, a query:
1. It could be a while before we see the former Athena on NXT TV. They just debuted Asuka, and Nia Jax will be there soon. Athena doesn't even have a WWE name yet. It's possible they debut her at the next Takeover special, but they could also wait until early 2016. It depends on how confident they are in her standing out in the pack after the other two debuts. And some fine-tuning on live events wouldn't hurt!

GFW will tape their next set of TV episodes on Oct. 23, declaring their first champions. Still no word on a U.S. TV deal, so who knows if/when this will all air.

Orton/Ambrose vs. Strowman/Harper will be the Kickoff match at HIAC. That's kind of a surprise given the starpower there. But maybe they'll all be involved in Bray vs. Roman?

The former Victoria/Tara was visiting at Raw, as she lives in the area. I wouldn't mind her having a brief run, but I think she's moved on.

WWE reaching out to former World Champion?, NXT name appearing for EVOLVE, latest on Rusev-Lana, and new match for HIAC set on Raw

WWE has been discussing the possibility of bringing Alberto Del Rio back into the company. Del Rio has been working AAA/LU pretty regularly since leaving the company. I thoroughly enjoyed Del Rio, especially with Ricardo at his side. I'd like to see him back, even if he seemed to never become the top heel they wanted him to be.

Sami Zayn will be appearing at EVOLVE's events this weekend as part of the ongoing deal between WWE and WWNLive. A lot of people compare Zayn to former EVOLVE competitor El Generico, with some insisting they're the same person. If that was true, this would be something of a homecoming for him.

WWE has acknowledged the real-life engagement of Rusev and Lana, so it looks like they're doing a 180 and might pair them back up once Lana can come back for TV. Imagine if this was happening in the days of kayfabe; the two of them wouldn't be able to be seen together in public, period. I wish Lana would appear via satellite and blame American propaganda for saying she's engaged to Rusev, but obviously WWE's not going to pretend they actually hate each other anymore. I wouldn't mind Rusev turning face and Dolph turning heel as a result of this. Both men could use a fresh coat of paint.

Randy Orton/Dean Ambrose vs. Braun Strowman/Luke Harper is official for HIAC. I'm willing to give Bray and Roman a chance to have a great HIAC without these four involved. These guys can do the big brawls while Bray and Roman play with the structure of HIAC. That match used to mean a lot.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Even more between WWE/WWNLive, TNA star challenges NFL player, NXT+WWE live event notes, NJPW signs ex-NXT name, and Questions on Styles-NXT, TNA's roster, WWE buying TNA, the "why" of the World Title Series, Divas headlining Raw, Team Angle 2.0, '80s WWF writers, pleasing Vince, Vince approving music, and a lack of selling

WWE filmed content for their new "Breaking Ground" series at an ACW show, which Bayley attended in the front row. ACW is an affiliate for WWNLive. Basically, the two sides are pretty close now.

Robbie E challenged NFL player Rob Gronkowski to a wrestling match. Unless Gronkowski's willing to go to India or the UK, I don't think we'll see that match in TNA anytime in the near future.

Here's a report from an NXT live event this weekend. Sounds like a real fun time at a time when WWE live events feel so formulaic.

Interviews with Riddle/Alex Wright/Heyman/Henry, NXT sells out (again), more on NXT releases, more on TNA cancellations, TNA looks ahead, why NXT Diva missed tapings, another NXT Diva done, WWE press, NXT name working live events, upcoming WWE DVD, new NXT Diva, and Questions on Raw as the longest-running show, EVOLVE getting a boost from WWE, Network priorities, TNA's World Title Series, and Little Guido

Former UFC fighter Matt Riddle confirmed WWE set him up to get experience in EVOLVE after his tryout for NXT. So, the loose relationship between WWE and WWNLive continues to bear fruit. Presumably if Riddle impresses in EVOLVE, he'll get a shot in NXT.

Alex Wright talked about WCW then vs. WWE now, and more. The Power Plant often comes across in stories as something more like hazing than actually training people to wrestle.

NXT's Oct. 22 TV taping has sold out. There's a lot of excitement for what's next for the brand.

The releases of Devin Taylor and Cal Bishop were likely to make room for the new signings. Both had been in the system for some time without getting a featured role as wrestlers on TV.

Superstars:
Damn. Rose went hard on Cesaro with the whole "not becoming a superstar" thing.

- Cesaro vs. Rose:
Rose has some charisma in the ring, which is good.

That match was OK. I honestly am not crazy about the Giant Swing, but it's clearly over.

- PTP vs. Ascension:
Solid stuff so far.

Both teams are going pretty hard here. I like it. Hopefully Management notices them stepping their game up as the Dudleys have returned and been given the red carpet treatment.

Nice match.

TNA will tape six episodes of Impact Wrestling from the UK in late January, as was more or less expected.

The latest Takeover event was really well received backstage in WWE, as it should have been. NXT really feels hot right now.

Mark Henry confirmed he's retiring in 2016. He's had a really impressive run. I'm sure he'll be a great asset behind the scenes.

Tully Blanchard talked about the Horsemen and more. The heel/babyface dynamic is really missing in some matches these days. Everyone's trying to get in all their best moves at the expense of taking the audience on a journey.

Lita is now working as a producer for the main roster. That's great! I hope she passes on some great tips to the current performers.

Jay Lethal is now the longest reigning ROH TV Champion in history. Yay?

ROH will tape TV at the site of BFG in January 2016. Interesting. I doubt there's anything to that beyond the venue being the right size for ROH's needs. It will definitely be noteworthy if they get bigger attendance than a big TNA PPV featuring NC's own Hardy Boys in the main event.

BFG and WWE live event notes

TNA performers were unhappy with management allowing certain fans (VIP ticket holders?) eat at catering alongside them while having free access to the venue. Yeah, I can see why that wouldn't go over well! There's giving fans certain perks, and then there's interfering with the wrestlers' solace before a big event. I appreciate the idea of giving fans something special, but that's probably too far.

Big Brother's Donny Thompson was at BFG. He's friends with Jessie Godderz. Godderz is another guy I wonder about if TNA goes under. What other promotions would be interested?

There were only an estimated 2,200 fans at a WWE live event in Maine. The product is on a downswing lately. It's not like Brock, Taker, and Sting are going to work live events.

Brad Maddox lost to Zack Ryder at another sparsely attended live event. Maybe he should come back as a manager?

Here are results from NXT in Nashville. Some notes:
- I hope Alexa Bliss ends up doing well as a wrestler. I've liked her in her manager role.

- Eva Marie remains dangerous in the ring. They need to be careful with how they use her.

- I'm glad it was a sellout.

There was also another report of James Storm being in attendance. How hard does the place erupt if he appears at a future Takeover special? As far as is known, he hasn't actually talked about coming in. I think he'd be a great addition, though.

Superstars:
I miss seeing more of Slater. Can we get him to work NXT?

- Cesaro vs. Slater:
God stuff so far. I like how these two styles interact.

Not a bad match. I'm glad the swing's back. It was pretty over.

- Ascension vs. Dragons:

Kalisto was amazing as always.

Cena to miss time?, Gargano update, legend booked in Europe, Bryan note, TNA and ROH audiences, and Questions on J&J Security, Y2J as a surprise, pushing Cesaro, and booking Sting

John Cena is not advertised for a number of Raws and live events in late October and November, so they could be giving him some time to recharge his batteries. That's a pleasant surprise given how often he's used in a big way. Maybe that will shake things up in a positive fashion.

Johnny Gargano is booked in a match for EVOLVE on 10/17 that has his career in WWNLive on the line. Naturally, this is leading to speculation of him being signed to WWE/NXT. He's been really impressive in his appearances there so far. I think with some tweaking he'd be a big asset for NXT and later WWE.

Ric Flair is advertised as the GM for WWE's European tour later this year. That's a pretty cool bonus.

Brock Lesnar has been added to Monday's Raw in an effort to stop the ratings slide that show has seen. That follows Brock vs. Show this weekend, and will be part of the build to Brock vs. Taker at HIAC.

Tough Enough's Patrick did a long interview about his future.

Oscar of Men on a Mission talked about Hulk Hogan's remarks and more. Oscar looks really unhealthy there.

Harley Race did a long interview as well. The man's a legend. I wish we saw him more.
