Top Impact name hospitalized, Interview with Corey, HoFer at NXT live event, ROH owners to acquire sports networks, Backlash's replacement announced, Crockett Cup attendance, NXT loop set, Lilian gets a new gig, more LU talents look to get out, Hardy update tonight, SDL live event notes, and Questions on Vince balancing WWE and XFL, Becky toning down Twitter, Bray's gimmick being shelved, talents getting tattoos, and why Corbin's being pushed

Brian Cage was hospitalized after Rebellion, going directly to the emergency room. He injured his back early in his match with Johnny Impact. Cage did not compete at last night's TV taping.

- Cage later confirmed a bone bruise and severe inflammation. He still expects to compete at this weekend's TV tapings. Obviously as world champion Impact is going to want him to be a key part of things.

Corey Graves is on Lilian Garcia's latest podcast.

Paul Ellering attended an NXT live event this weekend near his hometown. His daughter competed on the card.

ROH owners Sinclair Broadcasting are close to acquiring regional FOX Sports networks, opening the door for ROH to provide programming for FOX Sports. I wouldn't assume any kind of timetable for that - it will all depend on Sinclair's level of interest in doing more with ROH.

WWE Backlash has been replaced by WWE Stomping Grounds on June 23 in Washington. Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton is the advertised main event. We'll see if Takeover will end up nearby. Stomping Grounds is definitely an uninteresting name. It's not Great Balls of Fire bad, but it's pretty lame. I'm not sure why WWE felt the need to change the show name, but WWE works in mysterious ways sometimes.

Crockett Cup drew about 1,400 fans. That's a pretty solid house.

NXT has announced events for Texas on June 20, June 21, and June 22, and an Oklahoma show on June 23.

Lilian Garcia is now an announcer for the Professional Fighters League. She will still be able to work for WWE when not appearing for PFL.

LU's Matanza (Jeff Cobb), Famous B, and XO Lishus (Sonny Kiss) have all sought legal representation to get out of their contracts there. It's expected Willie Mack will do the same. LU is seeking to prevent Cobb and Mack from working ROH and Mack from working with the NWA. Honestly with no fifth season in sight it's time for LU to let everyone go so they can move on with their careers.

The Hardys will address Jeff Hardy's current state tonight on Smackdown Live. It's entirely possible the tag team championship will be vacated tonight.

At Smackdown Live's April 29 live event in West Virginia:
- Buddy Murphy made his SDL live event debut, losing to Ali in a battle of former 205 Live stars.
- Asuka and Kairi Sane teamed for the first time on a live event, defeating Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville.
- Heavy Machinery worked their first live event since March 3, defeating The B-Team. This was Bo and Curtis' first live event appearance since January 13.
- Apollo Crews worked his first live event since March 24, teaming with Matt Hardy to defeat Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura. Jeff Hardy was not at the event.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. As best as I can tell, Vince is still heavily involved in the creative direction for Raw and Smackdown Live. I expect he will continue to oversee that process as much as possible.

2. With her favorite punching bag gone and the main event of WM35 passed, she doesn't have as much to Tweet about. Her current feuds aren't as big or heated as the long road to facing and beating Ronda.

3. Bray's gimmick is continuing. I haven't seen anything credible about it catching heat with sponsors.

4. WWE absolutely wants to be aware of any changes to a star's look ahead of time for the purpose of action figures, video game appearances, and other related uses of their likeness. Talents can and do face repercussions if they make changes without informing Management.

5. I definitely think WWE is playing up the legitimate dislike people have for Corbin to push him as a heel who "doesn't deserve his spot."

More wrestling tomorrow.

Raw Reax - 4/29/19

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Raw.

Monday, April 29, 2019

Wrestlers discuss music, Rollins appears at former indie home, new JR podcast official, Interview with JR, KUSHIDA on getting used to NXT, SDL match set, Cena set for major film role, Takeover moving dates, Impact producer works for Bellator, WOS season two taping soon, and Questions on AEW's PPV home, AEW ticket prices, Vince not accepting blame, and post-Shakeup moves

A number of wrestlers discussed their favorite metal bands.

Seth Rollins appeared at Scott County Wrestling. It's great to see him support where he came from.

Jim Ross' new podcast will be called "Grillin JR."

Jim Ross discussed joining AEW and more.

KUSHIDA tweeted about the transition to NXT. I hope he does well there and post-NXT.

Smackdown Live has set Becky Lynch vs. Bayley as well as Kofi Kingston responding to Kevin Owens' actions last week.

John Cena will be in the next Fast and Furious movie.

Takeover:San Jose is being moved due to the Saudi Arabian show the preceding day. So, yes, even NXT fans job to the Saudi government.

Impact producer Kevin Sullivan (not the Taskmaster) did some content for Bellator this weekend.

WOW's second season is taping on May 15 and May 16 in California.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I'm under the impression that's tied in with ongoing TV negotiations, with whichever company getting their TV show also getting to determine PPV/streaming. Otherwise they would have gotten something settled and informed fans by now.

2. Hey if people are willing to pay that much for tickets, AEW will be glad to sell them at that price! They can always adjust for the next shows if demand isn't as high. As for PPVs, that's another thing they probably have a lot of metrics on to make an educated guess. It might be somewhat out of their control if they get tied to a streaming network with their upcoming TV home.

3. Vince definitely doesn't want to go out in front of stockholders, as the head of the company and the head of creative, and say he's the reason revenue is down, especially since he's going to be the guy making decisions for the foreseeable future. So, yes, he's going to point to other factors like talent absences. And he's definitely not going to paint a picture that WWE's current issues aren't something he's going to able to fix.

4. I don't think Vince is arguing they don't have enough wrestlers under contract, but that people who had been prominent parts of the TV shows had been out for extended periods of time. Either way, I do think Wall Street is skeptical about Vince's abilities in 2019 as ratings sink and he turns his attention to reviving the XFL.

5. Well, with the McMahons collectively directly in charge of both brands, they can move anyone anywhere at any time!

More wrestling tomorrow.

Rebellion Reax

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Impact Wrestling special event.

Sunday, April 28, 2019

Main Event Reax - 4/27/19, Rebellion intro, Bryan advertised for upcoming shows, new Ride Along coming, Rollins appears at NXT show, NXT live event notes, who's advertised for men's MITB, Crockett Cup hype, Interviews with Vickie/Y2J, new Rebellion match, former WWE stars at WWEPC, another classic MITB match on YouTube, female retirement official, and Questions on WWE vs. Mushnick, Johnny Karate Kid, Malenko-AEW, Bray's new gimmick, and reuniting Drake with EC3

-- Main Event:
- Dana vs. Ruby:
OK back-and-forth so far.

That was solid for the time it had.

- EC3 vs. Jose:
Glad this is heating up now.

Ehhh. Just kind of there.

Impact released the opening to Rebellion. I'm looking forward to the show.

Daniel Bryan is advertised for Smackdown Live and the upcoming European tour. Whether that advertising is current is unknown, but hopefully he will be able to return shortly.

WWE Ride Along after Raw will feature Beth Phoenix and Natalya as well as Road Dogg, Billy Gunn, and X-Pac. That should be pretty interesting.

Seth Rollins appeared at NXT's April 26 live event in Iowa. The show was in his hometown.

At NXT's April 26 live event in Iowa:
- Rachael Evers teamed with Io Shirai to defeat Aliyah and Vanessa Borne. Evers teamed with Mia Yim the previous night. I wouldn't assume either are permanent pairings.
- Shane Thorne and Kona Reeves teamed in a loss to the Street Profits. A Thorne/Kona team isn't a terrible idea given that neither man is really getting momentum as a singles star.
- A couple got engaged on the entrance ramp. That's pretty cool!!

Money in the Bank is locally advertising Drew McIntyre, Lars Sullivan, Rey Mysterio, Ricochet, Cesaro, Aleister Black, and Andrade as being involved in the men's ladder match. That's definitely a pretty impressive lineup, and some fresh blood in the mix for the world titles.

Magnum TA promoted the Crockett Cup. Good to see him put over current stars in the piece.

Vickie Guerrero discussed Chris Benoit going into the WWE Hall of Fame and more. Still a heat magnet! It will be a long time before WWE even considers putting him in given the black eye he gave the company with his final acts. A lot more people know him as a murderer than as an amazing wrestler.

Impact Rebellion has added Moose and The North vs. The Rascalz in a six-man tag match. The card is definitely missing something with Eddie Edwards vs. Eli Drake no longer happening.

Santino Marella and Mike Mondo were guests at the WWE Performance Center recently. It's cool to see stars from the past come back and pass on knowledge.

WWE uploaded 2010's Raw Money in the Bank match to YouTube to promote this year's show. I feel like they're cutting into the Network's viability as a place to see past matches with moves like this.

Jim Cornette spoke to Sports Illustrated about the Crockett Cup and its history.

Nick Aldis spoke to the New York Post about Crockett Cup and his history with Marty Scurll.

Kris Wolf officially retired at EVE's show this weekend. I wish we would have seen her more prominently in the U.S. at some point.

Chris Jericho discussed AEW and more.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. And now we're at a time when WWE programming will air on a network owned by the same company that employs Mushnick!

2. I haven't seen anything to suggest that.

3. With him appearing at Starrcast, he'll definitely be available to sign there. The only other info that's come out is the feeling older producers were being phased out for newer ones, and he left before he could be replaced.

4. I definitely think it's going to be more sinister as time goes on.

5. It's definitely worth a shot. Frankly 205 Live shouldn't take precedent over Raw or Smackdown Live. If there's a better role for Drake beyond that brand, they should do it.

More wrestling coming up.

Rebellion preview

Read on for my ideas for booking tonight's Impact Wrestling special event.

Saturday, April 27, 2019

WWE producer leaves after 18 years, NXT injuries, NXT live event note, NJPW/CMLL star working ROH shows, big WWEPC tryout, WWE reality show considered for Emmy, Stephanie in WWE college class, Kane-WWE update, NXT departure, Bryan title replicas, Raw+SDL take the weekend off, and more on Gail's in-ring future

Dean Malenko has left WWE following 18 years as a producer. With the company hiring so many new producers, some of the veterans were concerned they were being replaced.

- Malenko has been announced for Starrcast II. It's kind of a running gag at this point that everyone leaving somewhere else is going to AEW. Dean could definitely add to the backstage retinue there.

NXT referee Tom Castro broke his ankle during the main event of their April 25 Nebraska event. WOW. That's rough.

At NXT's April 25 live event in Nebraska:
- Punishment Martinez worked under that name, defeating Kona Reeves. There was speculation Punishment had changed his ring name.
- Tyler Breeze lost to Velveteen Dream in a North American Championship match

NJPW/CMLL star Dragon Lee will work ROH's June 28 Best in the World PPV in Maryland, as well as the June 29 TV taping in Pennsylvania.

WWE announced a massive Performance Center tryout in Florida attended by:
- CFL/former NFL player James Wilder
- MMA fighter Emily Andzulis
- Former NFL/college football player Taiwan Markis Jones
- Former NFL/CFL/AAF player Chris Martin
- Lance Anao'i

- Tesha Price
- Former college basketball player and powerlifter Bryce Wollman
- Alexander Zane
- Former college swimmer Jonathan Young

"Miz and Mrs" is being considered for the Emmys.

Stephanie McMahon appeared for a WWE university class. That's pretty cool!

Kane teased a WWE return when he spoke about his current role as mayor. It's always a matter of there being a pitch that works for everyone involved. I'm glad Kane's putting his current job and responsibilities first.

NXT star Stacey Ervin, Jr. has confirmed his departure following concussion issues.

Daniel Bryan's WWE Championship now has (very) limited replicas available. Given how the original was made, it makes sense they're not being mass-produced.

Raw and Smackdown Live have this weekend off due to the Saudi Arabian show originally being set for yesterday.

Gail Kim intends Rebellion to be a one-time comeback. Impact's done a fun job building her match with Tessa.

NXT's Raul Mendoza was hurt at a recent live event, but it's unknown how bad the injury is or its nature.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Impact Wrestling Reax - 4/26/19

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Impact Wrestling.

Friday, April 26, 2019

More on Shakeup moves, two more talents switch, why Owens turned, another name change for WWE team?, why Punk returned, Bucks bring AAA ratings, Impact names at Mexican project, Impact names in AAA, Ibushi signs longer NJPW deal, NJPW tournament broadcast note, new ROH shows, mote WotW matches, how Goldust is free for DoN, FttF attendance note, Ross' AEW role, potential AEW host, AEW team heading to China, Harper-WWE update, Sasha's status, Raw name getting heat, WWE courting top indie name, Hardy injury update, NXT UK taping note, NXT cameo this weekend, more on WWE European tour, WWE hiring, ex-WWE name trademarks, NXT UK star apologizes for slur, NXT name pulled from live events, Nia surgery note, Ambrose departure official, Helms working final non-WWE show, and WWE charity notes

WWE moved Andrade and Zelina Vega back to Smackdown Live to keep the Andrade/Charlotte Flair couple on the same show, which then meant moving Aleister Black to be with Zelina. WWE didn't want heat for breaking couples up to different touring groups. I'm surprised the company is that concerned about the matter, but it goes to show they realize talents have more options now and WWE wants to keep them happy.

The B-Team of Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel have officially been moved to Smackdown Live as WWE continues to move their rosters around. We'll see if the company's satisfied now or if more moves are coming.

Kevin Owens turned heel due to Daniel Bryan's injury. Bryan was originally going to face Kofi at Money in the Bank, so Kingston needed a new opponent.

Nikki Cross is slated to be part of Raw going forward. Killian Dain could follow her there, so maybe SAnitY will reunite without Wolfe.

The Viking Raiders were listed as "Viking Warriors" on a questionnaire sent to fans, so that name was also considered and could end up being utilized. The name change from Viking Experience was due to negative fan reaction.

C.M. Punk's wrestling run-in was partially to appear at a building he had worked in many times earlier in his career before the building's scheduled shut down.

AAA's TV episode of the Young Bucks defeating The Lucha Bros for the AAA Tag Team Championship drew 5.4 million viewers. That's incredibly impressive.

Impact's Eddie Edwards, Rich Swann, Dez, and Wentz are involved in TV Azteca's multi-promotional tournament project.

Killer Kross and Tessa Blanchard are heading to AAA's May 18 TV taping. This is Tessa's debut for the promotion.

Kota Ibushi has signed an extended NJPW contract. He intends to stay there for the rest of his career. He can be a key figure for wrestling going forward.

NJPW's Best of the Super Juniors tournament will air entirely on New Japan World with English commentary.

ROH has announced a New York show on July 20 and a Massachusetts show on July 21. Both will air on HonorClub.

War of the Worlds Chicago has added:
- EVIL and SANADA vs. Satoshi Kojima and Yuji Nagata
- Hirooki Goto vs. Hikuleo

War of the Worlds Grand Rapids has added:
- Jay Lethal, Jeff Cobb, Yuji Nagata, Satoshi Kojima, and Hirooki Goto vs. The Briscoes, Bully Ray, Shane Taylor, and Silas Young
- PCO vs. Mark Haskins
- The Kingdom vs. The Guerrillas of Destiny and Hikuleo. Note the world champion isn't in the main event.
- RUSH vs. PJ Black vs. Tracy Williams vs. Eli Isom for an ROH World Championship opportunity
- Cheeseburger vs. Clark Connors
- EVIL and SANADA vs. The Bouncers
- Kelly Klein vs. Stacy Shadows for the WOH Championship
- Coast 2 Coast vs. Alex Coughlin and Karl Fredericks

Dustin Rhodes asked for and received his WWE release in January, with his no-compete clause expiring April 19 and freeing him up for AEW. Vince McMahon was against releasing him to go work for the competition, but Triple H convinced Vince to OK it.

Fight for the Fallen is set up for just under 5,200 fans.

Jim Ross is expected to do regular announcing for AEW alongside Excalibur and Alex Marvez. I'm curious how that will work out. It's definitely an interesting mix of backgrounds.

AEW has Jenn Decker trying out as a host and/or interviewer.

SoCal Uncensored could work in OWE next week as part of the deal with AEW. That would be a good way to continue the feud with CIMA.

Harper is expected to remain in WWE until his contract expires. WWE has added six months to his deal due to the time he missed from injury, so he won't be free until close to WrestleMania 36. This is seen as WWE getting back at him for going public about wanting to leave. Time will tell whether he has to sit on the bench for a year. That's a real shame, and I hope it leads to an outcry.

Sasha Banks' stalemate with WWE isn't really going anywhere as far as WWE being willing to change how they use her, which could lead to her ending up on the bench for a while, too. Frankly WWE should listen to her or cut her loose. This should also be a point of contention with WWE from fans and talent.

Lio Rush has heat for openly discussing feeling like he should be a bigger part of Raw. He's good and a lot of fun, but he's also new and in there with people who have worked a lot harder a lot longer.

WWE recently spoke with Joey Ryan about joining NXT and becoming a coach down the line. That would involve a move and a pay cut, so he's not expected to take it. He hasn't officially signed with AEW, but is definitely involved with their projects.

Jeff Hardy will have surgery this week for his injury, which is believed to be on his right knee. He's expected to be used on Smackdown Live in some fashion to set up his departure, so that could mean new tag team champions there.

NXT UK's recent tapings were put together by staff from NXT and PROGRESS. I'm interested in how that played out.

Tyler Breeze is advertised for NXT shows this weekend. It's worth seeing what he can contribute there while Fandango recovers. Heck, they could both work NXT for a while with The Raiders leaving.

WWE's European tour will not reflect the Superstar Shakeup, instead using the rosters from before WrestleMania.

WWE is seeking an executive assistant for the vice presidents of talent, live events, and creative, as well as a creative services talent coordinator to serve as liaison between NXT talent and "main roster" creative. That second one sounds valuable if the main roster people will take note of what's suggested by the person in that position.

The former Enzo Amore and Big Cass have trademarked the names "nZo" and "caZ XL" individually, and the name "Free Agent Z" collectively for future wrestling appearances. We'll see if

The former Cryme Tyme have trademarked that team name. WWE dropped the trademark years back.

Rhea Ripley apologized for using a homophobic slur in a Twitch broadcast when asked to insult someone. Another example of needing to be careful in the digital world.

Chris Jericho and Xavier Woods met up on a flight. Very funny timing following the Kevin Owens turn.

Matt Riddle is missing NXT live events this weekend due to a mild arm infection. Hopefully he's able to rebound quickly.

Nia Jax's double ACL surgery was a success. There's no timetable for her return at this time.

Dean Ambrose has officially been removed from WWE's roster, so his contract has expired.

Hurricane Helms is working his final independent date before being a WWE producer full-time. WWE allowed him to finish what he had already been booked for.

WWE won Cynopsis Sports Media Awards for their work with Make-A-Wish and Connor's Cure.

Xavier Woods is helping Make-A-Wish in Connecticut by hosting a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament.

More wrestling tomorrow.

WWE Q1 2019 Reax

Read on for my thoughts on yesterday's WWE financial release.

NXT and ROH Reax - 4/24/19

Read on for my thoughts on last night's NXT and ROH.

WotW Toronto lineup, Starrcast II additions include rare international appearance, assorted WWE press, why the Hardys disappeared, Sabin surgery, WWEPC releases, SDL audience, Interview with AEW president, new Hidden Gem, Browne on HoF attack, SDL star gets first shirt, R.D. on leaving WWE, and Questions on Vince's philosophy on calling up talent, deathmatch safety, and ECW playing off WWF in CT

War of the Worlds Toronto has announced:
- Jay Lethal vs. Satoshi Kojima
- Brody King vs. Shane Taylor vs. Jeff Cobb vs. Hirooki Goto
- Silas Young vs. Yuji Nagata
- The Briscoes vs. Mark Haskins and Tracy Williams
- RUSH vs. PJ Black
- TK O'Ryan and Vinny Marseglia vs. EVIL and SANADA
- Guerrillas of Destiny and Hikuleo vs. Alex Coughlin, Karl Fredericks, and Clark Connors

Starrcast II has added Kenta Kobashi, who has not appeared in the U.S. since a 2005 match with Samoa Joe. That should tell you what kind of money and influence Starrcast is playing with.

Seth Rollins promoted Monday's Raw.

Becky Lynch will host Nickelodeon's Crashletes on Friday.

Jeff Hardy was medically evaluated following an injury suffered this weekend on a live event. The diagnosis is unknown at this time. The Hardys reunion with the tag team championship but be a short one.

Chris Sabin had surgery for his torn ACL suffered in January. He could easily miss the rest of 2019 as a wrestler. We'll see if he becomes a regular producer for Impact as he heals.

NXT has released Shadia Bseiso and Nasser Alruwayeh. I don't believe either of them had had a match since being signed as part of WWE's Arab tryout.

Smackdown Live drew 2.07 million viewers this week. Not a particularly strong number.

AEW President Tony Khan spoke about the company's plans and more:
- Of course every wrestling company that reaches a certain level of prominence is going to be compared to prominent promotions from time past. I don't think AEW should try to recreate those companies, though. If fans want to see WCW or ECW content, it's readily available.

- There's a lot of intrigue for what this product will look like.

- I'm very curious how AEW's philosophy will potentially affect how WWE presents their product.

- We'll see how long it is before someone comes up with a "shoot" angle that involves Khan.

- AEW's schedule could be its most transformative change to wrestling. WWE's is clearly outdated given the declining interest in live events.

- I'm sure AEW would like to have Punk back.

Mid-South Wrestlefest 1985 is WWE Network's latest Hidden Gem.

Johnny Gargano threw out the first pitch at a Cleveland MLB game.

Travis Browne discussed his Hall of Fame altercation to protect Bret Hart. I agree regarding the attacker getting publicity. His name, face, background, and social media posts were front and center in the days after the battery.

Ali has his first WWE T-shirt. That's one benefit of leaving the 205 Deadzone.

R.D. Evans made a video about leaving WWE. Pretty funny.

Starrcast II has added Mark Henry, Allie, and Rosemary. WWE's probably not as concerned about Henry appearing since he's not an on-air talent.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Vince makes the final say, but there are definitely recommendations and a "short list" of which names should be next. Of course, Vince can disregard all that if he wants something different, and anything is subject to change inside WWE at his whims.

2. Vince doesn't follow NXT, 205 Live, or NXT UK since they're obviously different from what he presents. I'd think if he did, he'd want to be hands-on and make changes, which obviously that fan base doesn't want for those shows. So, he takes a talent and makes decisions based on what he sees them as instead of how they've been presented previously. I don't think it's too hyperbolic to say it feels like WWE is two companies with two different priorities and philosophies as far as Raw and Smackdown Live vs. the WWE Network projects. Talents are recruited and developed in one system and then dropped into a very different system. It's unreal a company is run like that.

3. Vince likes to put new names in every so often to change things up. It's not that different from sports teams in some sense as far as refreshing the roster.

4. I mean, really, if you're involved with death match wrestling, you know what you're signing up for. Part of the appeal of that style is it not being kid-friendly, "safe" WWE.

5. That sounds HILARIOUS. Live events used to be a lot more fun with stuff like that.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Wednesday, April 24, 2019

Assorted wrestling press, Impact TV match, Ronda update, another Starrcast name, Jazz's NWA replacement, SDL touring Latin America, Raw audience, WWE pulls names from Starrcast, WWE uploads MITB match, another Viceland wrestling show coming, WWE trademarks name for new WWEPC star, another WWE trademark, SDL dark matches, and Questions on GWN subscriptions, AEW's TV plans, an AEW home venue, and WWE names jumping to AEW

Gail Kim is appearing at Toronto's MLB game Friday to promote Rebellion.

Impact is doing a charity event for the Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto before Monday's TV taping. I can't help but think that's partially to fill more seats.

Impact's April 29 TV taping will feature all four members of oVe vs. Tommy Dreamer, Rich Swann, Willie Mack, and Fallah Bahh. So that feud will continue after Rebellion.

Ronda Rousey called herself "semi-retired" until she has a baby. She's also recovering from a broken pinky. I'm very glad she ended up working through WrestleMania. I definitely think more can come from her in the ring if she wants to wrestle more.

Taz will be at Starrcast II. I miss his suplexing days.

The NWA Women's Championship match at Crockett Cup will now be Allysin Kay vs. Santana Garrett for the title vacated by Jazz.

WWE has announced Latin American events for August, September, and October. Interestingly only Smackdown Live talents are named for the events.

Double or Nothing has a commemorative art poster. That's pretty cool.

Johnny Gargano brought his championship to the Cleveland Browns. Good to see it.

Raw drew 2.37 million viewers Monday night, a notable drop from last week.

The Undertaker and Kurt Angle have been pulled from Starrcast II due to signing new WWE contracts. I think this could backfire on WWE as far as getting fans and talents to resent the decision and culture of the company not allowing non-active talent to make a big payday. But, of course, money talks and I'm sure Taker and Angle have been compensated well by WWE for signing new deals that prohibit such appearances. More on this as it develops.

WWE uploaded the women's Money in the Bank match from Smackdown Live in June 2017 on YouTube. MELLA IS MONEY.

Viceland is working on another wrestling docuseries due in 2019, featuring international independent stars. That's a pretty intriguing idea.

Big E discussed voice acting. Good to see him getting opportunities like that.

WWE has trademarked "Garza Jr." so it looks like he'll continue to use that name. WWE has also trademarked "B-Team University," which may or may not relate to Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel.

Before Smackdown Live, Heavy Machinery beat The B-Team. While Otis and Tucker were moved to that brand in the Superstar Shakeup, The B-Team are still listed as being on Raw. We'll see if that changes.

After Smackdown Live, Randy Orton and Roman Reigns fought to a no contest.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. No question mark found. Entry skipped.

2. Yes, when it first come out, so they could rewatch old content that isn't on WWE Network. I don't know how many people are subscribed in all.

3. They intend to do live TV to the best of my knowledge. That's definitely a major move for a company that technically hasn't run a show yet. I'd think starting with taping shows once a month or so would be less risky, but if someone's paying them to go live each week, they'll try to make that work. The key question is whether they can draw on the road that often given their success so far has been based on traveling fans coming to a few major shows.

4. I would think Jacksonville would be interested in the idea, but they don't want to burn one market out. And if someone's willing to invest that much money into touring that frequently that early, they'll certainly try it!

5. There are definitely wrestlers who will jump for better opportunities if the pay is right. There's a big opportunity for people who aren't reaching their potential in WWE.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Smackdown Live and 205 Live Reax - 4/23/19

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Smackdown Live and 205 Live.

Tuesday, April 23, 2019

WWE travel note, assorted wrestling press, NWA titleholder drops title, Extreme Rules plans, major international tryout, more AEW signings, WotW matches set, more Shakeup moves, another NXT rename, Ronda appearance set, WWE shifting events, Japanese name sets retirement tour, Ricochet auctions, SDL live event notes, and Questions on Becky losing, when show lineups will change, Heyman's status, who authorized the Shakeup, and EC3's booking

Raw's Friday night live event also had travel issues with a referee and ring announcer. I'm not sure what exactly happened there.

Seth Rollins' wrestling school had a number of WWE visitors before Sunday's live event.

Alexa Bliss did a signing at a Cricket Wireless store before Raw.

Jazz vacated the NWA Women's Championship due to medical and personal issues, but teased a potential return to the company.

- Allysin Kay will face an opponent TBA for the championship at Crockett Cup.

Extreme Rules has advertised:
- Seth Rollins vs. Baron Corbin for the WWE Universal Championship
- Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton
- AJ Styles vs. Drew McIntyre
-- So those are the tentative plans for July.

WWE's China return in July will include a nearly 50-person tryout spanning four days. WWE's recruitment website is now available in Mandarin as a result. That's a significant opportunity to pick up more raw talent.

Seth Rollins got an "Iowa's Own BeastSlayer" shirt for his local market.

DC's lucha libre-themed line is being reevaluated for other uses.

AEW has signed Peter Avalon, Private Party, and Leva Bates (formerly Blue Pants). They're definitely filling out the roster.

War of the Worlds' May 8 New York show has added:
- Villain Enterprises vs. Jeff Cobb, Yuji Nagata, and Satoshi Kojima for the Six-Man Tag Team Championship
- Bandido vs. Flip Gordon
- RUSH vs. Silas Young
- EVIL and SANADA vs. Mark Haskins and Tracy Williams
- Shane Taylor vs. Hikuleo
- PJ Black vs. Alex Coughlin
- Vinny Marseglia and TK O'Ryan vs. Clark Connors and Karl Fredericks

WWE's Superstar Shakeup continued:
- Smackdown Live got Andrade and Zelina Vega from Raw, due to FOX wanting to keep a top Latin star on the brand. FOX wants to showcase WWE's Latin names on Fox Deportes. So, if you're wondering how much pull the TV stations have in who gets on what show, there's your answer. This also adds to the gap between the two women's rosters.
- Smackdown Live got Aleister Black from Raw (or free agency?), partially due to him being married to Vega. SDL's Creative team also had ideas for using him going forward, which is good because he can really be a star.
- Raw got Cesaro from Smackdown Live, ending The Bar.
- Raw got Samoa Joe from Smackdown Live, as was the plan last week.
-- Anyone want to take bets on how long it is before someone else switches shows? Nikki Cross is still unassigned.

The NXT Tag Team Champions are currently known as The Viking Raiders, which seems a little redundant but is seemingly an upgrade from last week's name. They are still "Erik" and "Ivar" for now.

Ronda Rousey is set for "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" Monday night to promote Mortal Kombat 11. I'd think her wrestling status will be discussed, too.

WWE's June 7 Saudi Arabian has set some schedule changes:
- WWE's June 7 Utah live event is being moved to June 16 in the same market.
- WWE's June 8 Colorado live event is being move to June 15 in the same market.
- Backlash on June 16 is now just a live event. Backlash could be moved to June 23, likely in Washington where a show is currently scheduled for that date.

Japan's Riki Choshu is retiring on June 26.

NXT stars are doing auctions to support Ricochet's family. That's fantastic.

Ricochet was put over in his home town.

At Smackdown Live's Monday live event in Iowa:
- Matt Hardy and R-Truth defeated Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows. Jeff Hardy was not in action Sunday nor Monday after competing Saturday night. Interestingly, Anderson and Gallows weren't on the rest of the tour loop and hadn't been on live events since February 25.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. It will depend on what opportunities present themselves. Lacey Evans certainly has a chance to take the Raw title.

2. It looks like the brands have been shifted for U.S. tours. Certainly by the first European live event people will know who's on which show.

3. Probably working on how Brock will get back into things for Saudi Arabia, as well as providing guidance to talents that ask for it.

4. The McMahons took full control of both shows back in December. I assume they got together and made all the brand switches and re-switches.

5. I always say WWE has so many talents they want to feature. Someone's got to be on the lower end of the booking if others are going to be pushed. EC3's in that spot now. It certainly looks like EC3 was called up just to freshen the roster up rather than there being a plan for him.

More wrestling coming up.

Raw Reax - 4/22/19

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Raw.

Monday, April 22, 2019

Shield's Final Chapter Reax, Punk returns (kind of), Rhodes on leaving WWE, WWE PPV canceled, and Questions on unexpected HoFers, AEW shows on Saturdays, OH wrestlers, do talents know what's on commentary, and how NXT stars look at working EVOLVE

-- Shield's Final Chapter:
- Elias promo:
I mean, The Shield couldn't continue post-Shakeup anyway. I do wonder what Dean would have done next; I would have been fine with him facing some people coming up the card.

Haha vintage crowd burial.

Definitely feeling like a live event.

Silly, but effective.

- Finn vs. Elias:
This is pretty solid so far.

Oooh. That ending might not have gone as planned.

I can't say I expected a title change here.

- Post-match:
Wow. They're really milking this, huh?

Yeah the Riotts could use reboots post-Shakeup. They can't go much lower.

Mostly fun.

- Ruby/Logan vs. Bayley/Ember:
I do wonder how all the female SDL faces will coexist. Someone's going to have to turn at some point, right?

Fine for a live event match.

- Shield promo:
Oh this setup brings back memories.

They definitely were part of a changing of the guard in WWE. I continue to say we're in a new era with all the NXT names being recruited and pushed.

- Attack earlier:
Good idea to get heat. I doubt anyone wanted to see a Singh Brothers match.

- Corbin/Lashley/Drew promo:

This is pretty good.

- Shield vs. Lashley/Drew/Corbin:
I'd pop if Dean signed AEW at the end a la Bret Hart.

I like this so far.

I would be all for this becoming a no-DQ match.

Really cool superplex spot.

This is solid.

All cool stuff.

- Post-match:
This is definitely pretty cool.

Rollins has definitely come a LONG way.

Is it too early to say End of an Era?

It is telling Dean didn't reach the heights Seth and Roman have (and will continue to reach).

Fun times.

C.M. Punk made a run-in in Wisconsin to assist former trainer Ace Steel. Punk trains for MMA nearby. This was likely just a fun cameo, but surely it will lead to a lot of speculation of him returning for more.

Dustin Rhodes commented on leaving WWE. I'm very glad he's still thriving and seeking out new things at 50. This was a classy goodbye.

WWE Backlash has been canceled due to being planned nine nights after the newly-rescheduled Saudi Arabian event. Takeover:San Jose is still scheduled for June 7 at this time.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I like the idea of HoF classes being like a wrestling card, with main eventers, tag teams, women, and a few "extras" like celebrities and backstage personnel. As for people I was pleasantly surprised to see honored: Ultimate Warrior, Randy Savage, Sting, Rick Rude, The Rock 'n' Roll Express, Jeff Jarrett, Chyna, and pretty much all the Legacy inductees.

2. It's easier for people to travel to a Saturday night event. AEW has a big fly-in crowd.

3. Ohio's one of the most populous states in the nation, so it makes sense they'll have a lot of wrestlers from there. It's also in a good place for talent to travel and get experience.

4. There are times when the talent actually suggest it themselves! It's all part of the process of putting things together.

5. It's more experience for talents who are in NXT to get experience, so it's usually a plus. It's also a way to "give back" to a place that's part of grooming the next NXT talents.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Bonus Viceland clip, DDP DVD on WWE Network, Impact contract update, Mickie music video, Interviews with Dolph/Evans/Dana Warrior, Raw name misses live event, SDL star wrestling update, more Beth matches official, HHH-AEW comments removed, SDL preview, lucha figures canceled, WWE roster move official, WWE star jumps to AEW, SDL+NXT live event notes, and Questions on Eli's contract, the Vikings' new names, Grand Wizard's legacy, Impact's India TV deal, and oVe's newest member

Viceland released a bonus Jim Cornette clip from this week's episode. I'd love to say this will be the last time someone brings up what happened in Montreal, but I really, really doubt it.

Diamond Dallas Page's 2017 WWE DVD will be added to WWE Network Friday.

Impact's Gursinder Singh has reportedly not been granted his release yet. In a correction from my last post, he did work one of March's Impact tapings.

Mickie James released a video for her latest single.

Dolph Ziggler discussed his WWE status and more. I'm fine with his vacation continuing. There are plenty of talented stars stepping up with him gone.

Drew McIntyre missed Friday's live event due to travel issues, but will work the rest of the weekend.

Aiden English is taking convention bookings, which likely means he's been signed to a commentary deal. Other than WrestleMania AXXESS, his last match was January 21.

Beth Phoenix is set to team with Natalya on WWE's upcoming European tour. So she'll at least be competing again there.

Triple H's AEW references have been edited out of the WWE Hall of Fame broadcast on WWE Network. I miss when things like that were OK.

Lacey Evans was interviewed in South Carolina. I don't see any comparisons to the Emmalina character, and this wasn't something Vince came up with. If anything, I think Lacey would shade Emmalina for not being classy.

Smackdown Live has announced Kofi Kingston vs. Shinsuke Nakamura and Becky Lynch going face-to-face with Charlotte Flair.

DC Comics' lucha-themed figures are no longer going to be made. That's a shame; they looked pretty cool.

Alexander Wolfe debuted for NXT UK at their April 20 TV taping, so it's expected that will be his regular home going forward. Notably, his WWE profile still lists him as being on Smackdown Live.

Goldust has left WWE for AEW, as he will be Cody's opponent at Double or Nothing under the name Dustin Rhodes. This move had been expected and foreshadowed for some time. Unsurprisingly, PWTees already has a shirt for him.

Dana Warrior discussed joining WWE Creative and more.

At Smackdown Live's April 20 live event in Wisconsin:
- Kevin Owens worked his first live event since March 4, defeating Andrade.
- Samoa Joe returned to the ring after his sickness, retaining the U.S. Championship over R-Truth.

At NXT's April 20 live event in Florida:
- Boa worked his first live event since March 9, losing to Albert Hardie, Jr.
- Marina Shafir worked her first live event since March 16, teaming with Jessamyn Duke in a loss to Kacy Catanzaro and Lacey Lane
- Robert Strauss made a team of Dan Matha and Riddick Moss as The Outliers. It feels like both men have been in developmental a long time.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. GALAXY BRAIN question here. Impact announced the release themselves weeks back. It was expected he'd go to AEW once his deal ended, but of course now he's tied up in that legal mess. I hope they get it figured out soon, since all it's really doing is making Impact look bad for keeping him from going somewhere else.

2. I wouldn't think so, but it's a possibility.

3. He's definitely held in very high regard for his abilities, and made a mark in his era.

4. If they lost that deal, Anthem seriously questions how much it's worth to continue Impact as a TV product as opposed to (hypothetically) just a touring/Twitch/PPV product or just scrapping it altogether.

5. Notably, Fulton was a member of SAnitY before he got injured and replaced with Killian Dain. He never really got much momentum going in NXT, so maybe this is the best move for him to show what he can do.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Saturday, April 20, 2019

Main Event Reax - 4/19/19, NJPW announces second Australia show, assorted wrestling press, Flair roast at Starrcast, Cross brand update, new WotW title match, new ROH interviewer, new Lifeblood member?, WWEPC guest coach, more on Rocky book, new WWE show trademark, Flair trademarks, NXT-EVOLVE matches, WWE commentator tryout, NXT team done at EVOLVE, AEW name finishing in EVOLVE, NXT UK roster move?, NXT+Raw live event notes, and Questions on Cross joining Bray, overcoming being buried, Chris Adams, David Benoit wrestling, The Club's future, and WWE's Bunny

-- Main Event:
- Dana vs. Tamina:
The Raw women's division is really in for a shift with Ronda, Nia, Bayley, Ember, Mickie, Liv, and potentially Sasha gone.

This isn't bad.

Fine work.

- HM vs. B-Team:
Note that HM was drafted to Smackdown Live after this was taped.

Fun enough so far.

HM is working things out pretty well.

That was pretty fun at the end.

NJPW announced a June 30 event in Sydney, Australia, as expected. This will be a smaller event than the one on the preceding night.

Seth Rollins promoted The Shield's Last Stand.

Mark Henry discussed Kofi Kingston's WWE Championship win. I definitely hope he inspires others to excel.

SNL's Colin Jost discussed working WrestleMania and more. He and Michael Che were used appropriately.

Ric Flair will be roasted at Starrcast II. That could really be something special.

Nikki Cross is scheduled for Raw this week. She has not officially been assigned a brand. Raw could definitely use her more.

John Cena guest hosted "Ellen" Friday.

War of the Worlds' May 12 event in Illinois will feature Guerrillas of Destiny vs. The Briscoes for the ROH Tag Team Championship. I could definitely see a title switch there.

ROH is using Quinn McKay as a backstage interviewer going forward.

ROH is considering Flip Gordon for Lifeblood now that David Finlay is injured. They might as well...

The WWE Performance Center saw Mike Quackenbush back as a guest coach this past week. He's really getting to head there a lot.

The Rock will write the foreword for the upcoming Rocky Johnson autobiography, due September 3.

WWE is trademarking the name "WWE Stomping Grounds" as a show name. I'm thinking this would follow wrestlers in their hometowns?

Ric Flair has trademarked the nicknames "King of Drip" and "Founder of Swag." Amazing.

EVOLVE 127 will feature Adam Cole vs. Austin Theory in a non-title match, as well as Kassius Ohno and Harlem Bravado against AR Fox and Leon Ruff. EVOLVE 128 will feature Adam Cole vs. AR Fox and Kassius Ohno vs. Josh Briggs.

Sam Roberts did commentary for the latest WWE Main Event. We'll see if that becomes a more regular thing for him.

The Street Profits are no longer working in EVOLVE. They had already worked with all the teams there. With the Viking Experience leaving NXT, Dawkins and Ford have the opportunity to take the championship.

Randy Orton appeared on "SuperMansion"'s Earth Day special as an evil tree. I can't say I expected to ever write that.

Jimmy Havoc's final PROGRESS appearance is set for May 6. He'll be joining AEW soon afterward.

Alexa Bliss spoke to Sports Illustrated. She always comes across well in those pieces.

Alexander Wolfe is backstage for NXT UK's weekend tapings, so it does look like he's moving there.

At NXT's Florida live event for April 19:
- Kavita Devi competed at her first live event since February 21, losing to Reina Gonzalez. Devi did compete at AXXESS.
- Court Moore managed Jermaine Haley, the former Jonah Rock.

At Raw's April 19 live event in Missouri:
- The Lucha House Party defeated the Singh Brothers. This was both teams' first live event since March 17.
- Aleister Black and Ricochet made their post-NXT live event debuts, defeating The Singh Brothers after that duo asked for another match.
- Lacey Evans and The Riott Squad (!) defeated Nikki Cross, Bayley, Ember Moon, and Dana Brooke. This was Liv and Dana's first live event match since March 17, and Ember's first live event since January 20. That's a pretty wild combination of women/gimmicks.
- The Shield defeated Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley, and Jinder Mahal in Roman's first live event since October 14 and Jinder's first live event since March 17.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. There's nothing to suggest that's what's coming, although obviously that could be a pretty fun combination.

2. Oh yeah, that's got to be the go-to answer. The Miz comes to mind, too.

3. I can't find any record of him wrestling there.

4. I don't expect any wrestling company to use him for the obvious reasons. It also doesn't look like he's interested in putting in the necessary training at this point.

5. They're still expected to leave when their current deals end.

6. At the end it was definitely more Justin Gabriel, including the attempt at a heel Bunny.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Impact Wrestling Reax - 4/19/19

Read on for thoughts on last night's Impact Wrestling.

Friday, April 19, 2019

Another Shakeup move coming, why NXT UK names didn't move, post-SAnitY update, more on lucha collaboration, top WOH name taking time off, Lucha Bro has visa issue, Rocky Johnson book coming, new WotW names, more on Free Agentz/ROH, more on ROH action figure deal, Impact interested in lucha star, Taker signs new deal, Ronda-WWE update, more on Boss 'n' Hug split, Harper contract update, Sheamus injury update, Ricochet GoFundMe update, NXT name change, FWMF director's cut released, WM2 ring announcer passes, Jarrett-Anthem talks continue, AEW hires Impact producer, Impact backstage update, Interviews with Gail/Becky/McIntyre, Impact name turns down bookings, new WWE Pop figures, WWE targeting counterfeit goods, SCU at HOH, new Hidden Gem, Dark Side of the Ring rating, Road Dogg-WWE update, WWE Network special lineup, Goldust appearance set, NXT names set for EVOLVE, NXT live event notes, and Questions on Brock walking out, a FWMF sequel, an ECW cameo, where an ECW star went, and Hogan's gear colors

Samoa Joe and the U.S. Championship will be moved to Raw in order for Joe to feud with Braun Strowman. This was set to happen Monday, but Joe's illness prevented it. I'm curious how they'll explain the late change.

NXT UK's Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate are staying on that brand in order to keep establishing it. There was speculation they would be moved. As always, I contend the point of the NXT brands is to build stars for Raw and Smackdown Live, and those two are ready to contribute on a bigger stage. If there's concern about making NXT UK stick, move some underutilized Raw and Smackdown Live names there.

Alexander Wolfe is expected to be drafted to NXT or NXT UK. There's no indication he's leaving WWE.

Mexico's TV Azteca is launching a ten-week series featuring talents from Impact, AAA, MLW, Arolucha, and local promotion Elite in tournaments. The winners will be champions in all of those promotions and can defend their titles in all of them. It begins taping May 4. That's an interesting idea; I'm curious what it leads to. This also means Arolucha is still alive in some form.

Mayu Iwatani is taking time off due to knee issues. It's possible that's part of why she lost the WOH Championship, although obviously ROH wanted to do the Allure angle, as well.

Rey Fenix recently had a visa issue, but it's expected to be cleared up soon. He's really in demand right now.

Rocky Johnson is the subject of an upcoming biography, which could be turned into a movie.

The ROH/NJPW War of the Worlds tour has added EVIL, SANADA, and Hikuleo.

ROH currently has no plans to use nZo and CazXL again, as the original angle ended up being a lot more involved than the original plan of a quick altercation between nZo and Mark Briscoe with nZo being taken out by security. The angle was received negatively internally and externally.

ROH's action figure deal is expected to include most of the current roster. That's good to see.

Impact is interested in using Flamita again after United We Stand. That could really benefit both sides.

The Undertaker has signed a new deal with WWE. It's unknown what exactly it entails beyond keeping him from making additional outside appearances.

Ronda Rousey is expected to return to the ring after giving birth, but it would likely be on a reduced schedule. Her WWE contract runs through WrestleMania 37.

Bayley's move to Smackdown Live as a singles wrestler was planned before the tag team title loss. The women's tag team division clearly isn't a huge priority at the moment.

Sasha Banks asked for her release after learning she was losing the women's tag team championship at WrestleMania. She has been given time off to reconsider, and it's hoped she'll be back for Money in the Bank. She can be a top player again if they want her to be.

Harper's WWE contract expires near the end of the year. So, if he doesn't get his requested release, he'll still be free for 2020.

Sheamus is missing time due to a concussion. Obviously WWE doesn't want anyone rushing back from one of those.

Ricochet's GoFundMe has been assisted by Natalya, Jessamyn Duke, and Trevor Lee. Great to see.

Punishment Martinez has been renamed Damian Priest. That's actually a pretty kickass name, but of course he was already known as Punishment.

"Fighting With My Family"'s director cut is available on Blu-Ray.

WrestleMania 2 ring announcer Chet Coppock passed away at 70 after a recent car accident. He spoke to a lot of wrestlers on his shows over the years. PWInsider.com ran down his career.

- WWE.com noted his passing.

Jeff Jarrett and Anthem have been told to continue working toward a settlement regarding GFW content and the rights to Jarrett's likeness. That would be ideal.

AEW has hired TV producer Keith Mitchell full-time to oversee that responsibility there. He had been working in Impact. Impact and ROH are going to have tough time keeping people on both sides of the camera with AEW picking up steam.

Josh Mathews is doing a lot of Impact's backstage work, as he's taken over a lot of Sonjay Dutt's duties.

KM has turned down Impact bookings in order to focus on WrestlePro. Wow. It's pretty bad when you're offering someone that level of exposure and they turn it down. We'll see if he pops back up.

Gail Kim spoke about WWE vs. Impact, and more. I'd love to see her in the WWE Hall of Fame, but it's clear she's not a fan of them!

WWE's Pop! figures will soon include new designs for Becky Lynch, Trish Stratus, Elias, Bret Hart, and The Undertaker.

Becky Lynch spoke to People.com about beating depression on the way to WWE and more. I'm glad she can be such a role model.

WWE will now be able to confiscate counterfeit goods sold within a three-mile radius of their events. That's pretty powerful!

Christopher Daniels and Kazarian have been announced for HOH's June 1 event, where they'll face the Rock 'N' Roll Express. So, even after Double or Nothing, they'll be able to take outside dates.

WWE Network's latest Hidden Gem is from Leroy McGuirk's Championship Wrestling, an early precursor to Mid-South Wrestling. The August 12, 1978 episode is one of the only surviving editions in the library.

"Dark Side of the Ring" drew 181,000 viewers for the Montreal Screwjob episode. So, yes, there's still an audience that wants to hear about that story.

Road Dogg is taking time off from WWE as both parties determine his future. He is still considered part of the company. Ryan Ward took over his responsibilities this week.

The Shield's Last Stand on WWE Network will feature The Shield vs. Drew McIntyre, Baron Corbin, and Bobby Lashley as well as Finn Balor defending the Intercontinental Championship against Elias in a match that ensures that championship is remaining on Smackdown Live.

Drew McIntyre promoted an upcoming live event. Pretty good story of him coming back to the company, and seeing talent get frustrated.

Goldust is appearing at MCW's April 27 event. He's expected to leave WWE soon.

EVOLVE has announced NXT's Babatunde and Adrian Jaoude will be part of events next month.

At NXT's Florida event on April 18:
- Brennan Williams worked his first show since March 13, defeating Brendan Vink.
- Oney Lorcan worked his first NXT live event since March 15, teaming with Danny Burch in a loss to the Forgotten Sons' Steve Cutler and Wesley Blake.
- Keith Lee returned to the ring for the first time since March 7, teaming with Kushida and Babatunde in a win over the Undisputed Era's Roderick Strong, Kyle O'Reilly, and Bobby Fish. This was Kushida's first NXT live event.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. That's the first I've heard of that. I'm not sure where it came from.

2. I also haven't heard any indication they're doing any further projects along that line. FWMF was inspired by a documentary on Paige's journey to WWE. There might not be the same interest in following what happened next, or a similar wrestling story. It takes inspiration sometimes to make something like that happen.

3. I wonder how many people caught that detail at the time. The Internet and WWE Network weren't a thing back then!

4. He seems to have disappeared from wrestling shortly after his ECW tenure ended.

5. Obviously the red and yellow was a big hit and fit him perfectly.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Thursday, April 18, 2019

Another Shakeup move, Interview with Ali, MLW has guest producer, ROH backstage name leaves, ROH action figures coming, drafted names say goodbye, SDL live event set, more Shield content, wrestling at famous museum, NXT x Crique du Soleil, ROH's next TV taping, Cena up for big role, more Fight for the Fallen matches, more AEW battle royal entrants, podcast notes, WWE injuries, more on NXT name change, RKO student arrested again, SDL audience, Ricochet helps out mother, Orton lawsuit update, new WWEPC signings official, when the Shakeup will affect live events, Impact release, and Questions on adults being frustrated with WWE's focus, why Ronda didn't tap, debuting Aleister, Bryan's original WM opponent, and Charlotte being linked to Ric

The Superstar Shakeup continued with Smackdown Live getting Heavy Machinery from free agency. Nikki Cross remains unaffiliated; I hope she can make a niche for herself.

Ali spoke to TV Insider about his background and more. Good advice from Xavier.

MLW's May 4 episode will be executive produced by Salina de la Renta, making her the first Latina to produce wrestling for a nationally-broadcast promotion. This episode, of course, will air the night before Cinco de Mayo.

ROH backstage staff member Christina Meyers has left the company following Masters of the Craft. She headed up customer service and did significant logistical work for the promotion, so her absence will be noticed.

ROH has new action figures in production. Marty Scurll, Bandido, and Mandy Leon seem to be early choices.

Cedric Alexander had a farewell reception from the 205 Live locker room.

Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan said goodbye to The Riott Squad after Liv moved from Raw to Smackdown Live.

Smackdown Live will run a live event in Utah on June 16.

The Shield will be interviewed at Friday's Raw live event ahead of their final match Sunday. I assume that content will be on WWE Network at some point.

Madame Tussauds Hollywood and Championship Wrestling From Hollywood are teaming for a live May 5 lucha event. Psychosis and Puma King will join the CWFH roster at the show. I can't say I ever expected to write that story!

NXT stars worked with Cirque du Soleil. That's a clever idea to shake up the usual training.

The ROH/NJPW War of the Worlds tour will feature three HonorClub events (May 8 in New York, May 9 in Ontario, and May 11 in Michigan) leading to a TV taping on May 12 in Illinois.

John Cena is being considered for a part in Suicide Squad 2, likely replacing Batista in the project. That could definitely be a top role for him.

Fight for The Fallen has added Kenny Omega vs. CIMA and Brandi Rhodes vs. Allie. AEW is really putting things together in advance. I like it.

Double or Nothing's Over The Budget Battle Royal has added MJF and Sunny Daze. I could see MJF winning that.

Jim Ross and Conrad Thompson's new podcast is still in limbo for now. Ross had Thompson and Cody on The Jim Ross Report this week.

Daniel Bryan and Sheamus have been off TV due to unspecified injuries. Hopefully both men can return soon. Bryan was really doing great work since his heel turn.

The Viking Experience were at one point going to debut on Raw as The Berzerkers. That's actually even worse than the name they ended up with. I don't have high hopes for the team with this change; it looks like they're considered a duo of characters rather than a dominant force.

The student who attempted an RKO on his principal has been arrested a second time after wrestling a plastic alligator in a mall. He obviously needs something constructive to do with his energy.

Smackdown Live drew 2.22 million viewers Tuesday night, very similar to the previous week. WWE has a lot of work to do getting fans back into things.

Ricochet is raising money to help his mother after a house fire. That's rough. I hope they can move forward.

Randy Orton's tattoo lawsuit is going to trial in April 2020 after settlement talks failed and the original judge retired. That's a long time to wait for justice.

The WWE Performance Center has officially welcomed Shane Strickland, Humberto Garza (Garza, Jr.), and Kushida. Those signings had been expected for a while. All three have impressive pedigrees. I expect Garza will get a new name to avoid confusion with Humberto Carrillo. Or of course Carrillo can drop his first name like so many others do!

The Superstar Shakeup has affected planned lineups for Smackdown Live live event on April 29 and a Raw live event on May 6, so it looks like this weekend will be the final events with the pre-Shakeup rosters.

Impact's Gursinder Singh has asked for, and seemingly been granted, his release from the company. He last wrestled there in September, and his since been more or less replaced by Raj Singh in the Desi Hit Squad. I'm curious what his next steps are.

Stevie Ray is on Chris Jericho's latest podcast.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I chalk it up, at least partially, to the rise of NXT and the type of superstar being recruited since Triple H took over that end of the company. NXT fans see that product (and, to a degree, non-WWE wrestling products with similar talents) and want Raw and Smackdown Live to fit that vision. So, they're frustrated it's not in line with the other wrestling products they like, especially after so many talents they like are signed and not utilized in a way consistent with what made fans like them in the first place! There continues to be hope Vince will step aside and let Triple H and others change things, but of course WWE isn't a democracy.

2. There's speculation Ronda losing by a surprise pinfall was done to leave the door open for an eventual rematch.

3. Just be glad he hasn't lost his last name yet! I absolutely think WWE needs to do a better job of introducing talents to Raw and Smackdown Live, with vignettes and such leading to debuts. While obviously the athleticism of the NXT names are off the charts, casual fans want characters and angles they can care about. Wrestlers feel more significant when we're given time to anticipate their debuts and we get teasers of what they're capable of. But Vince has five hours of live TV this week

4. Kevin Owens was set to return and be put in that spot after more weeks of vignettes. Instead, he was rushed back to Fast Lane so WWE could do Bryan vs. Kofi at WrestleMania.

5. The issue was with SportsCenter only acknowledging her lineage instead of her considerable accolades. As for her character, some of that is out of her control. WWE understandably wants to link her to her father, and they make it clear where she came from!

More wrestling tomorrow.

NXT and ROH Reax - 4/17/19

Read on for my thoughts on last night's NXT and ROH.

Wednesday, April 17, 2019

Sexay death investigation concluded, NYC venue reopening, Impact working with Booker's promotion, new JR podcast, more on Swerved lawsuit, Interviews with Carmella/Lawler, Big E promotes Nick appearance, more Roman press, WWE name asks for release, Raw audience, NWA title match released, new Crockett Cup VIP names, Impact re-signs former star, RVD set for more Impact dates, Impact name seeking bookings, SDL dark matches, WWE name teases exit, more Shakeup after SDL, and Questions on an AEW union, Roman winning the Rumble a year earlier, not pushing Titus, how SDL's move to FOX changes WWE reality shows, and Shane beating Miz

Brian Christopher's death investigation has been concluded and turned into the local district attorney. No information has been released at this time.

New York's Webster Hall will reopen April 26. The venue has hosted WWE and Impact in the past.

Booker T.'s promotion Reality of Wrestling will team with Impact for a July 6 Twitch event. That could be a solid opportunity for Impact to scout talent.

Jim Ross has begun SlobberKnocker Audio Show with Conrad Thompson. The first episode will feature Cody and discuss AEW, Starrcast, and related endeavors.

Titus O'Neil's "Swerved" lawsuit continues, as the plaintiff now claims Paige chose to shock Titus with the cattle prod, as opposed to it being a prank chosen by the production company. If the court finds that to be true, she could be added to the lawsuit.

- Titus claims WWE had to approve all the pranks, but did not approve that particular prank. Instead, Titus says the production company and cameraman directed Paige to use the cattle prod.

Carmella spoke to TVInsider about cyber-bullying and more.

Big E promoted WWE Week on Double Dare.

Roman Reigns discusses his battle with leukemia in the latest Sports Illustrated.

Jerry Lawler discussed fans attacking wrestlers on his latest podcast. Obviously there's a world of difference between a heel effectively riling up a crowd and someone looking to get attention for themselves.

Luke Harper has asked for his release from WWE. It has not been granted at this time. I definitely think he can contribute as a wrestler, and a fresh environment would benefit him if the pay and hours are what he needs.

Raw drew 2.67 million viewers for the first night of the Superstar Shakeup. There wasn't a big bump after WrestleMania, and what increase there was has gone.

NWA released the Nick Aldis vs. Colt Cabana match from Masters of the Craft.

Crockett Cup's VIP experience has added Bandido, Flip Gordon, Yuji Nagata, and Satoshi Kojima.

Impact has re-signed Mahabali Shera. It's believed he'll return at the TV taping after Rebellion. He was ROUGH.

Rob Van Dam will work Impact's May 3 and May 4 Philadelphia taping. That's fitting.

Impact's Josh Alexander is now taking U.S. indie dates after getting a visa. Glad that opened doors for him.

Before Smackdown Live, Heavy Machinery defeated Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows.

After Smackdown Live, Randy Orton vs. Roman Reigns went to a no-contest.

Alexander Wolfe has teased leaving WWE on Twitter and Instagram. He's still with the company as of this writing, but I wouldn't blame him for seeking new beginnings with SAnitY splitting up.

The Superstar Shakeup continued after Smackdown Live, with the following names joining that brand:
- Liv Morgan
- Chad Gable
- Apollo Crews
- Mickie James

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Well, with so many current executives wrestling, I think there's going to be a pretty good bond there, with wrestlers' concerns being listened to, so there might not be a push for one. We'll see how things look down the line.

2. It definitely would have helped Roman with the fans, but I could see it backfiring in some ways with him getting such a major accolade so early in his career.

3. Yeah they probably look at his age and his lack of expertise compared to other workers there. His PR work has definitely helped him stay around as much as he has, though.

4. I definitely think Miz, the Usos, and Naomi were moved to Raw to stay on USA Network. I'd think there'll still be cross-promotion where appropriate. NBCU and FOX know there are a lot of other WWE properties to promote.

5. I think their Mania match was set to continue the feud so Miz can get revenge later, not to mention have a heel win on a show with a lot of big babyface moments. We'll see what happens now that Miz has switched shows. And, really, Miz was protected in that loss.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Smackdown Live and 205 Live Reax - 4/16/19

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Smackdown Live and 205 Live.

Tuesday, April 16, 2019

More on Mid-South on WWE Network, Punk charge dropped, Jarrett vs. Anthem update, AEW Fight for the Fallen details, first G1 Climax names, Interviews with IIconics/Darren Young/Becky/Kofi, WWE working on AR experience, WOTW matches set, Raw and Shakeup changes, Shield's last match on WWE Network, Ronda's future official, WWE announcer on release, AEW signs international star to full deal, what happened after Raw, and Questions on WWE saying belts again, the Shakeup mattering, The Demon losing, changes for future Manias, and Vince not wanting to be mentioned during the HoF

WWE Network's latest Mid-South Wrestling additions go from August 11, 1984, through April 27, 1985.

C.M. Punk is no longer being sued for fraud by Colt Cabana, as the court has dropped that claim. The two sides are still in a lawsuit over Punk's attorney possibly being on the hook for Cabana's legal fees during the Dr. Amann lawsuit.

- Punk is arguing Cabana couldn't be covered by Punk's lawyer, because of unspecified conflicts, and that, even if Cabana could have been covered legally, Cabana voluntarily severed that agreement and continued to pay for his own defense.

Jeff Jarrett is arguing Anthem did not have an implied license to use the GFW master tapes, as Anthem only got the tapes as part of a merger that ultimately failed. Jarrett is also arguing Anthem doesn't have the exclusive copyright to his name, because it's his legal name and other wrestling companies have used the name Jeff Jarrett before and since his time in Impact.

AEW Fight for the Fallen is set for July 13. It will benefit Jacksonville's Victim Assistance Advisory Council. Chris Jericho and PAC are set for the event on top of the usual AEW names. I'm curious what they'll do for that event.

G1 Climax will feature Kazuchika Okada, Kota Ibushi, Tetsuya Naito, and Jay White. All four men will compete in Texas on July 6.

The IIconics are on Lilian Garcia's latest podcast.

Darren Young talked about leaving WWE, working with Bob Backlund and more. I'm a little surprised no other prominent wrestling company has picked him up given his background.

WWE is working on an augmented reality experience with TV content. That's wild.

ROH's War of the Worlds tour has announced:
- Matt Taven vs. PCO for the ROH World Championship on May 9 in Ontario
- The Guerrillas of Destiny vs. Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham for the ROH Tag Team Championship on May 8 in New York
- Yuji Nagata, Satoshi Kojima, and Hirooki Goto are booked for the tour.

Raw featured some script changes due to transportation challenges from bad weather and canceled flights. It's unknown what ended up being different.

Samoa Joe was at Raw, but was sick. That would seem to indicate there was a plan for him to switch brands. Surely they could have just done a video package or something rather than put that plan on the shelf?

- Also backstage at Raw were New Day (minus the injured Big E), The Bar, Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows, R-Truth, and Carmella.

WWE Network is doing a live, streaming special Sunday with The Shield's final tag match and Finn Balor defending the Intercontinental Championship. This is part of Raw's live event in Illinois that night.

Sasha Banks' absence from WWE is likely related to losing the women's tag team championship at WrestleMania. I don't blame her for being frustrated at working so hard and being overlooked. If she has a real option outside WWE, and WWE thinks that option will make money from her, they'll rethink the situation.

Ronda Rousey has indicated she's taking time off from WWE to have children. She remains under WWE contract and can choose to return to the ring down the line if interested.

Becky Lynch talked to a New Zealand outlet. I think there are some fresh names interested in stepping up to challenge her!

Kofi Kingston spoke to USA Today about his title win and more. I appreciate the take on how his matches went before the push.

Dasha Fuentes spoke on her WWE release. I'm very curious what she does from here.

AEW has signed CIMA to a full-time wrestling deal. CIMA will continue his duties with OWE.

After Raw, The Shield did another sendoff as Dean Ambrose was brought from the back to join Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. I wouldn't be shocked to see Roman moved to Smackdown Live with Ambrose leaving.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. As always, any "rule" in WWE is only in place until a compelling exception comes along. If WWE wants someone to say belt, they'll say belt.

2. Yes. While obviously anyone can be moved at any time if the McMahons want them to, there's at least a foundation of which talents are on which show. It does look like the free agents are tied to one show or the other now, so that's a start to making the split matter again.

3. I definitely think when The Demon loses, it needs to mean something. Although that something could just be freshening things up so they're not as predictable. I don't think we're at that point, though.

4. WWE absolutely needs to make sure the transportation thing doesn't happen again and everyone knows things can go light. We'll see if they address long shows. Right now they're thinking making the show longer makes it more meaningful and prestigious. To some degree, it will depend on what the card is. If they're short on marquee matches and/or matches with wrestlers who can go the distance, WWE could cut back. I wouldn't count on it, though.

5. There's a line between Vince the owner and Vince the character. I would believe he doesn't want to be such a big on-screen presence. He did have Mr. McMahon killed 12 years ago, after all.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Kofi on New Day's next move, Cena signing, another HoFer on Instagram, Adrian Street documentary coming, Mr. and Mrs. Wrestling at Disney, new WWE announcer, Foley on Taker pulling out, Flair lawsuit settled, and a Question on respecting Joe but booing Roman

Kofi Kingston discussed New Day's future with TMZ Sports. I could see WWE making a spur-of-the-moment decision to split them during the Shakeup.

John Cena will sign his children's books at BookCon in New York on June 1.

Greg Valentine has joined Instagram.

An Adrian Street documentary is debuting May 16.

Johnny Gargano, Candice LeRae, and Goldie went to Disney World. Candice as NXT Women's Champion would definitely be a feel-good moment. She's kind of meandering right now.

WWE has signed Championship Wrestling from Hollywood announcer Jonny Loquasto. He finished up with CWFH at yesterday's taping. I'm curious where they'll use him.

Mick Foley commented on The Undertaker not being able to do Q&A appearances. It's a shame WWE isn't letting Undertaker do those, but it's part of his contract there.

The Ric Flair-Charlotte Flair lawsuit over "Second Nature" has officially been settled.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com question:
1. Honestly I don't have anything else to add to this situation. If you don't like Roman's abilities or push, boo him. Chant for someone else. Watch something else. It would certainly be great if you respected the man who fought for his life while you do so, though.

Main Event Reax - 4/13/19, Hogan vs. Viceland, NXT star training for WWN, Cena Ellen appearance set, Beth teases more, Interview with Cornette, NXT notes from EVOLVE 126, Ronda surgery set, Taker pulled from Q&As, and Briscoes challenge new ROH tag champs

-- Main Event:
- Jose vs. Jinder:
Will Smackdown Live draft anyone from Main Event???

Very basic.

- HM vs. Ascension:
Fun so far.

HM are more than just a gimmick.

Fine for what it was.

Hulk Hogan responded to Viceland's Randy Savage documentary, which Viceland then commented on.

Kassius Ohno will be at WWN's May 11 seminar/tryout as a guest trainer. I expect it's just a matter of time before he's a producer and/or trainer full-time.

John Cena will appear on "Ellen" on April 19.

Beth Phoenix teased further work with Nia Jax. We'll see if that comes to pass.

Jim Cornette discussed "Last Week Tonight"'s WWE episode on his latest podcast.

At EVOLVE 126 in Florida:
- Babatunde saved Milk Chocolate from a post-match beatdown from Task Force.
- Lacey Lane lost to Brandi Lauren
- Kona Reeves cut a promo and was challenged by Colby Corino. Reeves then beat Corino.
- Adrian Jaoude vs. Anthony Henry went to a double disqualification as both men disobeyed the referee's order to stop punching each other.
- Shane Thorne beat Curt Stallion
- Eric Bugenhagen was attacked by Eddie Kingston. Kingston was then attacked by Angelo Dawkins to start their Falls Count Anywhere match. Dawkins won that match.
- Raul Mendoza lost to Austin Theory in an EVOLVE Championship match
- Adam Cole was challenged to a match by Austin Theory after that match.

Ronda Rousey will have surgery on her broken hand Tuesday. There's no timeline for a WWE return at this time.

The Undertaker will no longer do a Q&A at his Inside the Ropes tour. Mick Foley will do that in his place. Undertaker will still appear for meet-and-greets. It sounds like WWE has prevented Undertaker from doing what he was originally scheduled to do.

The Briscoes have challenged the Guerrillas of Destiny for the ROH Tag Team Championship. It's unknown when this match will take place.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Saturday, April 13, 2019

Vampiro diagnosis, NJPW announces Australia show, combined women's show Summerslam weekend, ROH announces June PPV, assorted wrestling press, ROH training more women, Bandido-ROH update, Interviews with RUSH+Dragon Lee/Bandido/RVD/Ciampa, JR plans new podcast, SDL shifting in Canada for NHL, Paige defends Divas, Wilder credits Edge, MLW HQ official, MLW planning PPV, MLW looking at Europe tour, AAA+Impact+MLW joint show in Mexico, AEW signs recent EVOLVE star, Superstar Shakeup note, Brock-UFC update, Nia undergoing surgery, WWE Network content notes, new DoN battle royal entrants, Cross teasing next step, Hart attacker court update, Toni Storm working Stardom again, NXT names set for EVOLVE shows, AJ's injury, and an NXT live event note

Vampiro has revealed he's been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. I wish him the best in his fight.

NJPW has announced an Australian event on June 29. The show will be called NJPW Southern Showdown. Another as-yet-unannounced show nearby will follow. I'm curious how they'll do there.

Summerslam weekend will have a women's wrestling event co-promoted by Smash Wrestling, SHIMMER, RISE, and Canada's Femmes Fatales. That's pretty ambitious!

ROH has announced Best in the World for June 28 in Maryland, followed by a TV taping June 29 in Pennsylvania. Interesting they're not doing the same market back-to-back.

Kelly Klein threw out the first pitch at Thursday's Cincinnati MLB game.

ROH will evaluate 20 additional women at their next recruitment event. The WOH division is really stumbling if Mayu Iwatani and Tennille Dashwood are both out of the picture.

Bandido has worked his final non-ROH date, as he will now compete there exclusively. He's been very impressive so far there.

Rush and Dragon Lee spoke about wanting Los Ingobernables as a stable in ROH and more. Rush can definitely be a major player in ROH.

Bandido spoke about wanting to work NJPW and more. He could really have a big future.

Jim Ross and Conrad Thompson are working on a podcast in the same vein as "Something To Wrestle With."

Smackdown Live in Canada will air on a different channel this week due to the NHL playoffs.

The Undertaker is set for Niagara Falls Comic Con on June 9, two days after WWE's next Saudi Arabian show. Sgt. Slaughter, Road Warrior Animal, Paul Orndorff, and the Killer Bees are also on the event.

Rob Van Dam discussed wrestling under the influence and more. I missed the recent interview where he wasn't even aware Impact still existed until he was contacted about working United We Stand. Vintage RVD.

Tommaso Ciampa is on Edge and Christian's latest podcast.

Paige tweeted about the term "WWE Diva." Essentially it became associated with people who got in the business because of their looks and weren't good wrestlers when they were showcased ahead of more accomplished and trainer performers, in contrast to female wrestlers who had independent backgrounds they built on when they made it to WWE.

Dash Wilder praised Edge for Edge's help getting him into WWE. That's a great story!

MLW now has an official headquarters in New York, which will comprise their offices as well as space to film content and podcast. Another feat for the growing company.

MLW is looking to do a PPV later this year. I'm curious how that would do.

MLW is discussing running a tour of the UK and Europe now that they have TV in Britain and Ireland. That's definitely a big move.

AAA, Impact, and MLW are doing a joint show on May 2 in Mexico. That's pretty cool. I'm glad they can all work together.

AEW has signed recent EVOLVE star Darby Allin. He will face Cody at Fyter Fest. I'm curious where his career goes from here. This could be a big upgrade, but it's a big risk, too.

WWE's Superstar Shakeup is being advertised as an opportunity for Raw and Smackdown Live to make any roster moves they feel fit, which would seem to indicate NXT, NXT UK, and 205 Live talents are eligible to be signed. WWE has a real chance to make key, deep changes to things with this move. We'll see what they do.

UFC's Dana White has indicated Brock Lesnar's return to the company "isn't even in the works" and "may not even happen." There's no telling what Brock's next move is, but I wouldn't assume he's out of WWE just because he's lost the Universal Championship.

Nia Jax is undergoing double ACL surgery. That could really keep her out for a while. She's been a key part of the women's division, so we'll see how things change with her gone.

Roman Reigns' WWE Chronicle will air its second part after tomorrow night's Worlds Collide special.

The Undertaker is writing the foreword for "Smackdown 20 Years and Counting." Wow. That's pretty cool.

"WWE 24" will feature Kofi Kingston, Batista, and Becky Lynch soon, while "WWE 365" will feature Alexa Bliss.

Double or Nothing's Over The Budget Battle Royal has added Glacier and Brian Pillman, Jr. That's a pretty interesting mix! Glacier still wrestles occasionally.

Nikki Cross teased being in Money in the Bank. She's someone they definitely need to use more after the Shakeup.

Bret Hart's Hall of Fame attacker's court appearance has been continued until May 28.

Toni Storm will compete at Stardom's May 3 through May 6 tour, as well as their May 16 event. She had not competed there since June 2018. Stardom has a working agreement with ROH.

Adam Cole and Kassius Ohno will work EVOLVE 127 in Michigan on May 10 and EVOLVE 128 in Indiana on May 11. That would indicate there aren't plans for either man to leave NXT at this time, but that could always change!

AJ Styles' injury is a sprained SI joint, which has led to pinched nerve endings. Ouch. There's no word on how much time he'll miss.

At NXT's Florida event on April 12, Court Moore was in Jermaine Haley's corner as Haley defeated Eric Bugenhagen. Moore is the former Stokely Hathaway, while Haley is the former Jonah Rock.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Impact Wrestling Reax - 4/12/19

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Impact Wrestling.

Friday, April 12, 2019

SDL head writer quits, another Creative departure, Waltman podcast note, Raw tag team champs look back, new Hidden Gem, Titus book release date, EVOLVE vs. NXT matches announced, AEW speaking to Turner regarding TV deal, why SDL name disappeared, Fyter Fest main event, WWE stock press, NXT UK injury, WWE move gets high school student charged with assault, SDL injury, Viceland special rating, Hart attacker update, assorted WM35 weekend notes, possible Bryan injury, WWE announcer almost quits, Supercard accolades, Enzo+Cass updates, why AAA is touring U.S., AAA-MSG note, Raw audience, CMLL hitting U.S. TV, G1 Climax tickets reduced, NJPW injury update, former X-Division champion retires, WWN departure, AEW name back in action, OVW opening combine, Y2J contract update, Brock considered for UFC bout, Sasha update, Extreme Rules matches, and new HonorClub event match

Road Dogg has resigned as the co-head writer of Smackdown Live due to frustration with Vince McMahon's changes to his scripts, on top of difficult hours in the position. It's unknown what this means for the future of the brand's creative direction or for Road Dogg's WWE status. We'll see what visible changes actually result from this. With WrestleMania behind us and the Shakeup coming soon, there's definitely room for a fresh start.

- R.D. Evans is also gone from Creative after he produced Bret Hart's Hall of Fame speech, which mentioned Vince McMahon in defiance of the long-standing rule. Evans took the blame and resigned when threatened with termination. I wouldn't be surprised to see Evans pop up somewhere else, on-screen or otherwise.

Sean Waltman discussed the WWE Hall of Fame on his most recent podcast. I wouldn't be shocked if WWE did get sued over how the Hall of Fame attacker was treated. Obviously a lot of people side with what Dash Wilder and company did to him, but it could really lead to some bad publicity.

Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins released an early match featuring the two of them and Plazma in a triple threat match. That's a pretty cool throwback!

WWE Network's latest Hidden Gem features Ted DiBiase vs. Tom Magee from Wrestling Challenge in 1988. This match has never aired before.

Titus O'Neil's book will release August 6. It's being done in conjunction with WWE.

EVOLVE 126 Saturday night will feature:
- Raul Mendoza challenging Austin Theory for the EVOLVE Championship
- Shane Strickland vs. JD Drake for the WWN Championship
- Angelo Dawkins vs. Eddie Kingston in a Falls Count Anywhere match
- Shane Thorne vs. Curt Stallion
- Lacey Lane vs. Brandi Lauren
- Adrian Jaoude vs. Harlem Bravado
-- So a good number of NXT names will get ring time there. Good to see it.

AEW is speaking to Turner regarding a weekly TV deal for TNT. There are a number of possibilities for how and where that could come to pass, with Internet streaming being a key component to any deal. Should AEW air there, it would be on Wednesday or Thursday due to TNT's NBA deal.

Drew McIntyre left Smackdown Live's main event due to time being cut from the match. As the finish revolved around New Day defeating The Bar, Drew was instructed to return to the locker room during commercial break. Odd situation to say the least!

- Kofi Kingston vs. Drew McIntyre was the original planned main event for the show.

AEW Fyter Fest on June 29 will be headlined by Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks vs. PAC and the Lucha Bros. That's impressive!

WWE's financial situation was covered by Motley Fool. They're optimistic about the future of the stock.

Rhea Ripley has ligament damage, which could keep her out of action up to two months. I think she's got a tremendous upside going forward.

A Florida teenager was arrested for battery after attempting an RKO on his high school principal. That's a shame. I hope his poor choices don't reflect on WWE.

Big E suffered a torn meniscus on Smackdown Live. Ouch. I hope he's able to continue to support Kofi on WWE TV via Skype or something.

"Dark Side of the Ring" drew 154,000 viewers for its first episode.

Bret Hart's attacker was bonded out of jail Wednesday ahead of Friday's court appearance.

Becky Lynch's defeat of Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania was not intended to be a controversial finish, although a rematch is still possible.

- The referee who called the pinfall was legitimately fined, since Ronda's shoulders came off the mat at one point and that added unintended uncertainty to the ending.

Ronda Rousey was originally scheduled to be part of Raw. Her broken hand could have been what led to that changing. She was not scheduled for any dates past then.

Daniel Bryan is being medically evaluated, as it's believed he could have been hurt at WrestleMania, too. That could really be a hit to the roster.

Rey Mysterio vs. Samoa Joe reportedly went short due to how long the show had been at that point rather than Rey's injury, although certainly that could have played a role, too.

Brock Lesnar vs. Seth Rollins opening WrestleMania was something pushed for by Lesnar and Heyman.

Pat McAfee almost quit WWE at WrestleMania due to Michael Cole taking issue with his tuxedo shorts, with Cole seeing them as unprofessional. McAfee went to Vince McMahon and got Cole to apologize. So, McAfee will be sticking around for now. We'll see how much longer he stays if he has further friction backstage.

G1 Supercard was the first wrestling show in Madison Square Garden not to be promoted by the McMahon family since 1960, due to the long-term business relationship between the venue and the McMahons.

- The event also featured the first non-WWE title changes in the venue since 1936(!)

The former Enzo Amore and Big Cass will be wrestling as "nZo" and "CazXL," the "Free Agentz" in ROH. Wow those names are terrible, but that's how they work around WWE's copyrights. The pair have not signed ROH contracts, and there isn't a confirmed schedule for them, but they are expected to continue the angle. We'll see how it goes, but it's off to a shaky start with those details.

G1 Supercard drew 16,500 fans, the largest non-WWE crowd in the U.S. since 1999. It was also the biggest non-WWE gate in U.S. history. That's incredibly impressive, but I don't know if ROH and NJPW will be able to replicate that without The Elite.

Takeover:New York was a legitimate sellout of 13,600 fans.

The WWE Hall of Fame drew 10,000 fans against G1 Supercard.

AAA's upcoming U.S. dates appear to be a move from Oak View Group and Schramm Marketing to hold events across the country, rather than something AAA is in charge of.

AAA's Madison Square Garden event is expected to just feature that company, rather than being a joint show with AEW, as the event is intended to draw a Latin crowd for a traditional lucha show.

Smackdown Live drew 2.20 million viewers Tuesday, showing almost no bump for following WrestleMania.

Monday's Raw was a legitimate sellout of 13,600 fans. Smackdown Live drew 9,500 fans the next night in the same venue.

CMLL will debut on Univision Deportes next week, airing Fridays at 12:00 a.m. and Saturdays at 5:00 a.m. Obviously not an amazing timeslot, but maybe it helps them grow an audience.

NJPW is offering discounted tickets to G1 Climax in Texas. Sales are lower than they had anticipated. Clearly a lot of people want them to work with AEW instead of ROH, but there are no signs that's being planned right now.

Hiromu Takahashi's NJPW return is set for late summer. I'm glad his career will continue.

Amazing Red has officially retired at 36. That's a surprise! He will continue to run House of Glory.

Priscilla Kelly is no longer in WWN. We'll see where she goes next.

Jungle Boy returned to action during WrestleMania weekend.

OVW is opening a combine in a similar vein to NFL's training facility, featuring talents undergoing drills on-site.

Chris Jericho's AEW contract is for a fixed number of dates, so he may not work Fyter Fest.

UFC is considering Brock Lesnar for an August 17 fight against Daniel Cormier. We'll see if that ends up happening.

Sasha Banks is taking time off from WWE. There's speculation she's considering leaving. She's been a key part of the women's revolution, so her loss would definitely be felt. AEW signing her would be pretty major.

Extreme Rules is currently advertising Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns vs. Baron Corbin. Of course, the Superstar Shakeup could throw that right out of the window.

ROH's April 14 HonorClub event has added The Briscoes, Shane Taylor, and Silas Young vs. The Bouncers and Coast 2 Coast.

More wrestling tomorrow.
