WWE signee says goodbye to indies, WWE off the air?, Gail visits troops, more ROH matches, Reigns can't keep a straight face, Mr. 450 asks for help, new Ride Along coming, DDP DVD cover, TNA audience, another Brock/Heyman date, meet new NXT star, and Questions on Dawson's shot at the IWC, Kane's whereabouts, praising Miz, and Trish returning

Kimber Lee worked her final appearance for Beyond Wrestling before joining WWE. WWE is expected to pick up a good number of women in 2017.

WWE programming could be temporarily off the air as NBCUniversal is at odds with Charter/Spectrum. This dog and pony show happens every so often. I don't think it will go longer than a few days into 2017. Both sides need each other.

Gail Kim and her husband met with troops on behalf of the USO. That's great!

The Briscoes vs. Pretty Boy Killers is set for ROH's next TV taping. That could be pretty fun.

Bobby Fish vs. Lio Rush has been added to ROH's February 4 show in Texas. So, Fish will be part of the company for the time being. There has been no word of him signing a new contract, so it looks like they're taking it date by date at this point.

Roman Reigns started laughing during a headlock spot with Kevin Owens at a live event as Owens was taunting the crowd. In Reigns' defense, he covered his mouth and tried to save face on Twitter by saying he was laughing as a response to Owens' taunts. Pretty funny, but I can see why people would be upset at him no-selling the headlock. Theoretically if you're OK enough to laugh, the hold isn't hurting that much.

- John Cena joined the banter.

- Reigns fired back. Fun times.

Mr. 450/John Yurnet, who was hurt during a match on the most recent 205 Live, is asking for help paying for knee surgery. There have been reports he was hurt before appearing on the show.

WWE Ride Along will air after Raw, featuring the tandems of Heath Slater/Rhyno as well as Daniel Bryan/James Ellsworth. The latter could be REALLY entertaining.

DDP showed the cover of his upcoming WWE DVD. 2017 would be a great year to put him in the HoF.

TNA's audience was 224,000 for the new year special. It was mostly a clip show, so that's to be expected.

Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman are set for the January 16 Raw. I'm curious to see how they protect Brock and Goldberg in the Rumble, since I don't see either man winning it.

WWE introduced NXT's Tommy End. Glad he's keeping that name. I look forward to seeing what he'll bring to the table.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. It's refreshing to see someone not caught up trying to get positive press on the Internet/star ratings! I wish more took the attitude that success in your promotion means more than having outside writers, influential as they may be, sing your praises. The majority of the WWE audience doesn't know who Dave Meltzer is, and probably doesn't care.

2. It's the New Era! Kane's almost 50, and has more than 2500 (!) matches to his name. He's there for special occasions and generally works live events, but WWE's focusing on other acts for the most part.

3. Ahhhh I love some banter here and there. I'm also in N.C. and don't do drugs and think Miz has really been great at getting heat. No, he doesn't do 450 splashes or suicide dives, but he's a really good worker due to his years of in-ring experience. His matches show good timing and psychology that's absent in matches featuring younger/newer wrestlers. "Ring general" might be a stretch, but certainly someone who can work with just about anyone. That's very valuable.

4. I don't think it's out of the question for one or more return match(es). It's a matter of all the stars aligning for everyone; it'd have to be something that meant a lot to both sides. If she wasn't pregnant, there's a possibility we could have gotten Trish vs. Asuka in Toronto, but it's impossible to know if that would have happened. Trish hasn't worked a match in five years.

Nothing to add to 5.

More wrestling tomorrow.

2017 predictions

Read on for my predictions for a lot of WWE/TNA/ROH superstars for 2017.

Friday, December 30, 2016

Another TNA app correction, TNA-India update, more on MITB 2017, learn about Bruno, Sienna vs. cancer, ECW legend at WWE event, Anthem to seal the deal soon, JJ still in TNA talks, ROH champion re-signs, Whitmer update, Corino making moves, more ROH in the UK, more ROH taping matches, NJPW-U.S. update, Smackdown audience, TNA/AO1 update, and Questions on booing Reigns, WWE heel of the decade, announcers being paid per show, not doing Raw in MSG, the deluge of WWE content, and booking Zayn

TNA's UK app will show its first episode of Impact Wrestling on January 5 at the same time it airs in the U.S. and Canada. The app will apparently actually be 4.99 pounds a month and includes archive content. I hope that does well for them.

TNA's Indian tour is expected to finally happen this summer and be for multiple shows. I'm curious how that does for them. I'm under the impression Ring Ka King did pretty well attendance-wise, but that was years ago.

MITB 2017 is set to be a Smackdown-exclusive show. I'd much prefer it to be a show with both brands getting one of the signature matches. Heck, how about each brand has a winner get a briefcase that can be cashed on either show? The Smackdown MITB winner could sneak in and win on Raw or a Raw PPV and totally change the game.

A Bruno Sammartino class will be taught by WCW announcer Chris Cruise at a community college in Pittsburgh this spring. Interesting! Obviously they need a Kurt Angle class next. A history of pro wrestling class in general could be pretty cool. There's a good deal to look at there.

Sienna is doing a charity run on Valentine's Day to raise money for The Children's Tumor Foundation. That's great!

Jerry Lynn was visiting at WWE's live event in Tennessee. He'd be a great producer or trainer if they were interested!

Anthem is expected to officially take ownership of TNA on January 1. Fitting enough.

Anthem is continuing to have discussions with Jeff Jarrett, but nothing is official as far as him returning to TNA in any capacity. It will be interesting to see how he'd fit into things with Dixie still around. Jarrett is expected to continue GFW regardless.

Jay Lethal has signed a new contract with ROH. He's one of the pillars of the company.

BJ Whitmer could join Kevin Kelly on ROH commentary if he signs a new deal there. That would be GREAT.

Steve Corino is expected to leave ROH in the near future, likely joining WWE as a trainer. Sounds like a good move for Corino and for WWE. Corino vs. Whitmer was far and away one of the things in wrestling for a while, but it looks like his tenure there's going to end soon.

ROH is planning another UK tour for Summer 2017. That could be good for them; the market is really breaking out now.

Added to ROH's January 14 TV taping:
- Young Bucks vs. a team of their choosing. Should be interesting.
- Colt Cabana vs. Bobby Fish
- War Machine vs. BJ Whitmer/Punishment Martinez
- Kennadi Brink/Kelly Klein vs. Sumie Sakai/Faye Jackson
-- Fish, War Machine, and Whitmer are not currently under contract for 2017, so this could be their last appearances. ROH Champion Kyle O'Reilly is also not locked in for next year.

NJPW is expected to announce two nights of the G1 Climax will be in California. That's big. I'm interested to see what NJPW's expansion into the U.S. will mean for ROH.

Smackdown's audience Tuesday was 2,89 million, a jump of more than 200,000 from last week. John Cena's return put the show ahead of Raw! We'll see if the followup does well for them, too.

TNA and Audience of One have not been able to work anything out in mediation. The lawsuit could change venue following a hearing in February regarding jurisdiction of the case.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Some people are going to boo the "Vince-approved important talent" no matter what. Reigns didn't go through the indies or an international scene, so they're not going to support his push.

2. Can't argue there. Honorable mention to Zeb Colter.

3. Wow. It'd be good to get them under a contract that gives them more for working more shows, as some names like Tom are really hustling.

4. MSG is seemingly shooting itself in the foot to some degree.

5. I think they can definitely water things down with so many offerings, but their argument is it's like having pop music, metal music, hip hop music, etc. It's all music, but with different styles.

6. I definitely question how they're using Zayn if he doesn't get anything big for Mania season. After the feud with Owens, he's been treading water. I hope he gets a boost this summer with a draft - there's no confirmation they'll have one, but it would be good to shuffle the deck by having a few names switch shows.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Main Event and Hardy New Year Reax - 12/29/16

Read on for my thought on last night's Main Event and special edition of Impact Wrestling.

Thursday, December 29, 2016

Rumble plans changed, 205 Live injury, title match set for SD, cruiser team update, MITB '17 set, Foley on surgery, Show hoax shot down, WWE tries to shut down CTE lawsuit, Raw audience, Raw live event notes, another 2017 Raw set, and Questions on Atlas Security, Smackdown's huge announce team, Y2J's Roadblock actions, PPVs not being special anymore, and Rusev vs. Enzo

The Undertaker was discussed as AJ Styles' opponent at Royal Rumble, but things went in a different direction. I think there's a good chance Taker is in the Rumble to set up Cena/Taker at WM33. I'll be very surprised if Taker's not in action that night after the whole "I'm back" promo.

John Yurnet/Mr. 450 blew his knee out during his match on 205 Live. Once he gets that taken care of, it's possible he's in the mix on that show again. Or he could be in the 2017 CWC!

The Miz vs. Dean Ambrose for the IC Championship will happen on the next Smackdown.

The Bollywood Boyz will remain in NXT for a time before appearing on 205 Live again. The feeling was they need more preparation for that stage. I'm surprised Vince is letting so many people who haven't spent much time in WWE work the main roster in the first place.

The 2017 MITB event will be on June 18 in St. Louis. I assume we're in for both brands getting their own ladder match for a briefcase that night. We'll see.

Mick Foley talked about undergoing hip replacement surgery. Sounds like he's in a pretty tough spot. I hope he's able to get things straightened out, for the sake of his future health. That's more important than his role as a wrestling personality.

Big Show was erroneously reported as having passed away. 2016 is the year of fake news. I don't look forward to where the trend goes from here.

- Big Show is on the current Raw live event loop, KOing Bo Dallas after Bo asked for another opponent following being on the losing end of 10-man tag matches.

WWE once more buried the big CTE lawsuit against them and called for sanctions against the attorneys filing it. They also buried the addition of a lawsuit by Ashley Massaro alleging she was sexual assaulted for being false and unrelated to the CTE lawsuit. Vince McMahon may or may not have said the lawsuit has "no chance in hell."

Raw's audience this week was 2.86 million. Down from last week, and not a strong number. Hopefully they rebound for Mania season, because the response to Raw is tepid right now.

Liv Morgan is working Raw live events as a face as part of a six-woman tag affair. So, she could be joining the main roster before too much longer. I don't think there's any relation with Emmalina's lack of a debut, but it's possible they're linked somehow.

Curtis Axel is back to his Axelmania gimmick, doing signature Hulk Hogan spots on live events. So, WWE has softened is stance toward Hulk enough to give that another shot.

Raw will come to Brooklyn on March 20. They hit that market a good deal.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. It's not a bad idea for WWE to have a regular, trained security team instead of relying on locals. I mean, look how many of them get beat up trying to separate superstars from fighting!

2. My thought is WWE thinks they're grooming Phillips, Otunga, and Mauro by having them all work with the veteran JBL at once. It's definitely maddening.

3. It was all part of Y2J's master plan! This way Owens won the match, too. I expect we're headed to Owens vs. Y2J at WM33 and this will be part of the build to that.

4. That's the problem with how much time WWE has to fill these days. There are only a few special events these days because so many people interact/wrestle so much, there's nothing left for the PPV itself!

5. That mean bully Rusev is picking on lovable Enzo! Hopefully Cass straightens him out.

More wrestling tomorrow.

NXT and ROH Reax - 12/28/16

-- NXT:
- Lorcan vs. Almas:
I'm glad we're seeing Cien in his element now.

Good back-and-forth.

Man, Cien's like a completely different wrestler in there. He's much more confident now.

I like Lorcan, but something's missing. Definitely a good worker, though.

Lorcan has nice aggression.

I love Andrade just blatantly cheating.

WOW. I didn't see that win coming. Nice work.

- Liv/Aliyah vs. Peyton/Billie:
Liv at least has some fire.

This is going well enough.

Aliyah's impressing me, and Billie and Peyton always do.

I like the teamwork from the heels.

Good move keeping Liv out of this one.

Good work by the heels. Aliyah was pretty solid, too.

- #DIY vs. Tajiri/Tozawa:
Fine mat work to start.

I can't wait to see more Tozawa.

Tajiri picking his spots. I like it.

Tajiri's still able to contribute.

This is solid!

I'm liking the story working on the arms.

I'm impressed.

WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO BE KICKED BY TOZAWA!???

I like all four men's work.

I like the idea of Tajiri taking Tozawa under his wing.

Tozawa's impressive. A great signing from an athletic perspective.

Ahhhh I missed the tarantula.

I'm loving the suplex action.

This is awesome!

Really solid ending.

- Nia vs. Asuka:
Oh, I'm excited for this one.

Nice to see Asuka as the underdog for once.

I love Asuka's physicality.

And Nia's as dominant as ever.

This feels like an important match.

Nia's no pushover! Good luck, champ.

Damn. Nia's just mean here.

Asuka's not giving up, but Nia's giving her a beating.

Weird to see the champ being womanhandled like this.

I'm loving the submissions.

I probably would have taken the countout rather than face Nia. Yikes.

GOOD GAWD WHAT A CHOKESLAM!!!

Asuka trying her damnedest to get a submission.

Nia showing some real power here.

HOLY SHIT WHAT A GERMAN!

That was really good.

- Joe vs. Nakamura:
As good as these two are, I'm glad we're getting something different in San Antonio.

I love seeing a clash of big strikes.

I'm liking the mind games.

Oh this is a battle.

I'm excited to see what Nakamura will do against new opponents.

Joe seeking and destroying.

LOVING the attack on the leg.

I love Joe making use of submissions to try to beat Shinsuke.

Really good back and forth here.

These two know each other really well and it shoes.

SAMOAN SUPLEX CITY.

GOOD GAWD WHAT A KINSHASA!!!!

Shinsuke's strikes are something else. Damn.

-- ROH:
- Intro:
It's going to continue to be awkward to see Nigel on this show after he's jumped to WWE.

- Fish vs. Ospreay:
This match is pretty much guaranteed to get at least 3.5*

Fish is smooth. I like it.

How long until Ospreay gets passed as the most talked-about flippy guy?

Ospreay can definitely do incredible things.

WOW. I can see why people like Ospreay. I can also see why people don't.

Jesus. I didn't even know some of Ospreay's moves were possible.

It's tough to be the guy who just sits there and lets the other guy do all the cool flips. Fish is talented, but we're barely getting to see it.

Not bad! I'll be glad to see Fish in action again.

- Bucks vs. Scurll/Ospreay:
Oh yeah, this one will get 4.25* easily. More stunts = more snowflakes, brother.

OK that double thumb to the eye spot was hysterical. They got me.

I'd mark out for someone tapping out to a wristlock or something.

Hey, if you're going to be the flippy guys, be THE flippy guys. Impressive stunts.

Nice of Scurll to do something different.

Scurll and Ospreay make an interesting team.

Flying moves everywhere.

GOOD GAWD WHAT A DDT ON THE APRON.

This is absolutely insane. Jesus.

This is wild! Everyone's doing good stuff.

I'm liking we're getting to see more of what Scurll is capable of.

Funny umbrella spot.

WOW. Just WOW.

Now THAT was one heck of an ending.

- Ospreay vs. Scurll:
I'm seeing a theme to this show...

These two clearly know each other well.

Ugggghhhh.... probably enough flips and poses for one episode.

I'm a believer of Ospreay. He's something else.

Scurll's pretty entertaining in a different fashion.

Looks like we've got a new Best Moonsault Ever. BIG combination of flips there.

I'm about ready for the finish after so many flips in one episode.

I like Marty. This was good to see what the hype is about with these two.

Nice ending!

More wrestling coming up.

Cody on Raw angle, UK tournament logo, future ROH title matches, and Questions on making three big changes to wrestling, Batista returning, Roadblock complaints, talents leaving NXT, Muta in WWE, and Nigel getting back in the ring

Cody tweeted about the Dusty Rhodes reference on Raw. I'm glad he didn't go off on anyone. WWE's going to use Dusty's memory as they feel fit. There's not really much Cody can do about that. He's better off focusing on his own endeavors going forward.

WWE's UK title tournament has an official logo. I'm very interested to see what the next steps will be in this endeavor.

ROH TV Champion Marty Scurll will defend his title against Juice Robinson at the January 14 TV taping. I look forward to seeing the former CJ Parker again.

The Kingdom vs. Motor City Machine Guns/Jay White for the Six-Man Tag Team Championship is official for ROH's February 4 show.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
0. I actually want to start by adding to yesterday's responses about three things I'd like to see changed in wrestling. Here are my suggestions, upon further reflection:
- A lessening in the amount of rigidity in the business. Everything is tightly scheduled and scripted, with everyone going through pre-planned spots or verbiage in a set period of time. Obviously some of it's inevitable in the era of televised wrestling with set time slots, but it's to the point where things are expected to be highly controlled and planned out instead of that being a deviation from the norm.

- More variety in the styles, sizes, and looks of wrestlers. The business needs big wrestlers, small wrestlers, technicians, brawlers, etc. I don't think there's as much difference among looks of upcoming wrestlers as there used to be. Everyone's a white protein powder/crossfit enthusiast under 230 lbs who aspires to be either Shawn Michaels, Jeff Hardy/C.M. Punk, or an MMA star.

- More believable wrestling. This goes back to the idea of everything being planned out so much. It's too friends working together to get ****+ from Meltzer/"this is awesome" chants instead of two competitors trying to win. I hope that doesn't continue to be the trend going forward, but I think it will be because everyone's learning the same stuff and thinking that's what wrestling is all about.

1. I think we'll see a "Rock" kind of case where WWE wants to capitalize on his mainstream appeal, so he gets a big payday to have a few big showcase matches where he's pretty much in control of how he's booked. Batista vs. Brock or some other part-timer(s) could definitely happen in the next few years.

2.a. Referee's discretion. He works for Foley, so he more or less defers to the GM.

b. It's easy to say Sasha could have held on when you haven't been in a submission move! I guess C.M. Punk could have held on longer too, huh?

c. The Iron Man match got a definite ending/winner that way.

d. I can definitely see Nia getting a title shot if/when she has a babyface champion to compete with.

e. JeriKO is something the competitors involved are having fun with. The end goal is to have Y2J pass the torch to the New Era guy.

3. The smart wrestlers should know they make more money jobbing on the main roster than they do in NXT. Winning/titles/"good angles" are mark concerns. It's a job. Get in, do what the boss asks of you, make money, then get out while you're still more or less in one piece!

4. I kind of want to see Muta have a surprise appearance like Liger did, but not at the expense of a rising WWE talent. I'd be fine with him showing up and misting someone or something, but I'd like to see some other names in the Rumble mix.

5. I don't think WWE will clear him, if he's even still interested in wrestling. He'd be smart to see how much money he can make as a commentator and/or producer/trainer.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Smackdown and 205 Live Reax - 12/27/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Smackdown and 205 Live.

Tuesday, December 27, 2016

Looking at WWE's Chinese venture, sad news for Lilian, Smackdown live event notes, and Questions on what changes we should see in 2017, announce teams, and the lack of Putin references

WWE's expansion into China was profiled:
- I can see Cena being an ambassador long after his in-ring days are over.

- Weird. So WWE doesn't want to be considered a sport at times, but it might benefit them to be considered as something like a sport in China.

- Between partnering with PPTV to get the product in the market and having no presence there, WWE made the right choice.

- WWE's doing their best to develop a crop of Hong Kong/Chinese talents going forward.

- We'll see how the Chinese recruits do in the years to come. It will take time for WWE to develop them, and the path won't be easy.

Lilian Garcia announced her father has passed away after battling cancer. Garcia had left her WWE duties in order to spend time with him; the door is believed to be open for her to return after his unfortunate demise.

At a Smackdown live event in Madison Square Garden:
- No McMahons present, as they were at the Raw taping. IRS and Michael Hayes were in charge.

- Betty Skaaland was in attendance, as she usually is.

- WWE will return to MSG on March 12 for a Smackdown live event with Brock Lesnar appearing.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I think a better idea would be starting with letting HHH have more control over Smackdown and seeing what he does there first. I definitely think 2017 should be a year where Vince continues to pass the torch, but I don't think it should happen suddenly and all at once.

2. No way WWE's going to do that unless USA cancels the third hour. I'd also like to see WWE cut out that third hour and stick with one, dual-branded PPV a month. There's way too much WWE content out there; it's wearing a lot of us out.

3. ROH needs (stylistic) changes a lot worse than TNA does, but TNA has a bigger footprint and could actually potentially be a place for people who don't make it in WWE, so it does make sense to want them to get things together.

4. I'm definitely in favor of a two-person booth aside from the occasional wrestler joining to push an angle they're part of. And the announcers need to be focused more on what's happening with the people in angles and less time bickering with each other. I think I'd put that above changing TNA, since it'd have a bigger and immediate effect.

5. I don't think so, but it could have been part of WWE wanting to build some distance with political issues in a very polarizing election year.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Raw Reax - 12/26/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Raw.

Questions on booking Cena vs. Taker, WWE investing in FloSports, pushing Apollo, why WWE books cowardly heels, and Brooke going to WWE

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I don't think either side will really be "the heel," because no one's going to boo Taker and they're going to want Cena as a face after Mania's all said and done. It's shades of Cena/Rock in that way.

2. WWE is hoping FloSports will catch on and have the licenses for streaming various indie promotions. If WWE's not going to stream those promotions on their own network, they'll at least co-own a company that will be featuring a number of wrestling companies.

3. I'd like to think he'll get a chance to do more, just because the roster's only so big. If he stays healthy, he could easily end up being IC champion by year's end. Or maybe even win MITB?

4. I won't be shocked at all if it happens. If you're not 6'6", 300+ lbs., you're not big enough to be a dominating presence to Vince without cheating.

5. Brooke has only had one match since leaving TNA, and none at all in 2016, so it's entirely possible she's moved on from wrestling. Even if that wasn't the case, I don't know if she'd fit in with what they're looking for in female wrestlers now.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Sunday, December 25, 2016

More archived SDs, Chyna autopsy released, Interview with Ryback, UK vs. Mexico in ROH, bonus ROH bout, upcoming NXT specials, TNA audience, honor for Flair, and Questions on Ziggler vs. AJ, Kidd's injury, #Broken Brilliance, LU ratings, WWE censorship, how the UK Title will work, Lita's departure, Y2J winning the Rumble, why cruisers are on Raw, and taking liberties

WWE Network is uploading more episodes of Smackdown from 2007.

Chyna's cause of death was officially established as being a result of alcohol and prescription drugs. An unfortunate end for someone who was once a role model to countless women.

Ryback talked about C.M. Punk's comments regarding him and more:
- I know there was talk of him being green and unsafe for a good deal of his big push.

- Ryback was great at Twitter trolling.

- I'm glad Ryback's becoming a more versatile competitor. That should help him out going forward.

- Vince isn't generally behind things that aren't his idea. That's got to be frustrating. Y2J has the pull to say pretty much whatever he wants, because he can leave the company tomorrow and never come back and be totally fine with that. Guys like Rock, Brock, and Goldberg are in the same boat. They've made their money and WWE needs them more than they need the company.

- We've never seen Goldberg and Ryback in the same room, and Ryback was mentioned as being a cyborg for a while. That's all I'll say.

- People take the time to write out negative fan mail and send it to him? Wow.

Will Ospreay vs. Dragon Lee has been booked for ROH's March 4 show. This is the first time the two international names have faced off.

ROH has put up another recent match featuring The Tempura Boyz

For the next three weeks of WWE NXT:
- The December 28 episode will feature action taped from Osaka, Japan:
-- Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Samoa Joe
-- Asuka vs. Nia Jax
-- #DIY vs. Akira Tozawa/Tajiri
-- Liv Morgan/Aliyah vs. Billie Kay/Peyton Royce
-- Oney Lorcan vs. Andrade "Cien" Almas
- The January 4 episode will feature action taped from Melbourne, Australia
- The January 11 episode will be back at Full Sail University with a tag team championship bout between #DIY and The Revival.

TNA's audience Thursday for the 2016 Year In Review episode was 209,000, which isn't a terrible number for a show with no new content. We'll see how things do for the Hardy show ahead of new shows in 2017.

Ric Flair was named an honorary deputy in his current town of residence in Georgia. That's hilarious given his history with the law.

For my take on Friday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. People complain when Ziggler doesn't get pushed, then complain when does get a title match. And they'll complain if somehow Dolph wins. There's no pleasing some people.

2. Unfortunately it looks like they're more or less pushing him to the side until either his contract expires or he forces the issue. He presumably doesn't want to risk Natalya's status in the company by making too much noise, so he's pretty much stuck at home. WWE has their reasons for not clearing someone after a very scary injury, so they could argue it's fair they're paying him the terms of his deal without putting him in danger of getting hurt further.

3. Sharknado's a pretty good comparison. It's meant to be silly and over-the-top. I guess it's one of those cases where people who like it are "in on it." I also think a lot of it is the content standing out from much of what else is in wrestling with super-serious athletes trying to be the toughest competitor winning titles and kicking out of big moves and such.

4. El Rey has such a small footprint that I don't think any show there would crack the Top 150. There are always reports of how expensive the show is. Part of why they taped seasons 2 and 3 so close together was to save money. The fact season 4 hasn't been set yet at least means El Rey is cautious about whether they'll fund things going forward. That said, there's plenty of time for them to approve that venture.

5. They want more people to be able to watch the content on the website, so they clean up blood and language and the like.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I expect WWE's plan is to just have it defended in the UK among UK talents, in a separate endeavor from their current programming. If they do have an edition of Raw, NXT, etc. in the UK, I can see the title defended there, but I don't think it will be a regular part of WWE programming beyond that market.

2. She was also a producer for women on the main roster. The pre-show cost cuts were said to be a cost-cutting measure, but that wouldn't explain why they didn't keep her around for any other role.

3. It could definitely happen! They might do Owens vs. Y2J at Fastlane and Owens vs. Balor at WM33, having someone else win the Rumble and challenge for Smackdown's title. I wouldn't be shocked to see WWE use the Rumble to set up Taker vs. Cena, whether we like that or not.

4. All that, plus Raw has a bigger audience to expose the cruisers to. The cruisers are on the "A" show, and in theory that will help the prominence of the division.

5. There'd be a lot more coverage if Nikki turned that into a shoot. Accidents happen, especially when you're relatively new to the business.

Main Event Reax - 12/22/16, LU update, Elgin done with ROH?, Drew update, more on TNA UK app, UK name to miss TNA taping, Foley to miss time, Takeover sellout, WWE signs new female competitor, ROH announces another Texas match, WOH bout, and Questions on a cruiserweight clustermess at WM33, New Day's future, Christmas Raw, online dating, and an open world WWE game

-- Main Event:
- Goldust vs. Axel:
Goldust still competing on B-shows as we go into 2017. If the paychecks are worth the bumps, I can't blame him for continuing to take work.

Nice work so far.

Axel's pretty solid.

Good action between both of them.

Nice work all around.

That was a pretty good ending sequence with both men trying to get out of the other's finisher. Simple, but effective.

- Nese vs. Dorado:
Haha I liked Tony more or less no-selling the flips like "this is a wrestling match. I don't care how acrobatic you are."

Dorado's speed works in his favor here.

Don't count Lince out. He's agile like, well, a lynx.

This is good so far.

Lince is impressive!

This is a big showcase for Dorado. I love Nese, but he's kind of the tackling dummy in this one.

Good ending!

The latest word on Lucha Underground Season 4 is that it will tape in October 2017 and start airing in early 2018. There has been no official order by El Rey yet. Season 3 will go through May or so, so there's still plenty of time for something to happen. The status of the project will be something to follow, since the talent contracted there can't work elsewhere between season tapings.

Michael Elgin isn't expected to work for ROH in 2017 outside of being booked there by NJPW. That's a shame; he's always a lot of fun to watch.

Drew Galloway's TNA contract is up in mid-February. One of the sticking points will be whether he's able to book outside dates on his own -- he's able to do quite well for himself working for other companies in-between TNA tapings. WWE, NJPW, etc. would be wise to keep tabs on this situation; Drew's really shown his worth since his WWE release. It would be a shame for TNA to lose the former champion.

In a correction/clarification to a previous story, TNA's UK app is 1.99 pounds per month. It will air Impact Wrestling at the same time as the show airs in the U.S., and feature archived content as well. I don't know how well that will work out for them, but it's seemingly their only option with Challenge dropping them at the end of 2016. That TV deal was one of their top three sources of income.

Grado will not be at the next set of TNA tapings due to being in a play in Scotland. So, we won't see him on TNA TV until March or so. I don't know how much to read into that as far as his commitment or lack thereof to TNA, but it's certainly worth noting.

Mick Foley is expected to have hip replacement surgery in the next few months, putting a hold on his role as Raw GM. Presumably Stephanie McMahon will do most of his on-screen duties while he recovers. I wish him the best. Hopefully after that surgery and all the weight loss, he'll be as free from pain as he can be.

The Takeover special before Wrestlemania 33 has sold out with roughly 14,000 tickets. That's impressive!

WWE has signed the former Andrea/Rosie Lotta Love, who was trained at the Team 3D Academy. Since her brief TNA stint, she has lost more than 120 pounds and been working regularly for SHINE. She actually had an appearance on NXT in October 2015, losing to Emma under the name MaryKate.

ROH has announced Dalton Castle vs. Bobby Fish vs. Jay Lethal for their February 3 event. There has been no word of Fish or Lethal signing new contracts, but seemingly they'll be sticking around for now.

ROH has released Taeler Hendrix vs. Mandy Leon as this week's WOH bout. I expect both ladies will be involved in the plans for the division going forward.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. That'd be an easy way to go, but do they want to solidify the division as the stunt division? We'll see what they're thinking when the show gets closer.

2. I think they can still be in the tag team title picture, and there's nothing stopping them from going after singles gold! I definitely wouldn't split them up anytime soon; they're still a hot act and they've got a book coming out during WM33 season.

3. Probably that. Or they could be taped during the weekend if WWE wanted. I don't expect them to do live shows on those nights, but we'll see.

4. Statistically one would think it has happened, or will happen at some point.

5. I have wanted that for years. Say you're a CAW and you walk into a bar and Sheamus is fighting Mark Henry, and you end up involved. Or you can go to Taker's graveyard, etc. There are a lot of interesting possibilities for something outside the box. I mean, we got WWE Crush Hour after all.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Thursday, December 22, 2016

New Day on popular game show, Lawler update, El Patron to teach perros, UK tournament commentary team expands, Interview with Alexa, Smackdown audience, Flair trailer, and Questions on Y2J vs. Owens, why big stars don't work with newer names in WWE, Ambrose being punished, an all-women's WWE PPV, and why WWE isn't must-see TV anymore

New Day will be part of the Let's Make A Deal episode airing December 23. I'm glad they're having fun and have become a hit.

Jerry Lawler's talent deal with WWE expires next month, but it's likely he'll get a Legends deal in order to do Hall of Fame ceremonies and special Network content. That's the right move for him going forward. He's a legend and has earned a lighter schedule.

Alberto El Patron will host a wrestling seminar at House of Glory on February 18. So, if you want to be in the dirtsheets for getting in a fight with a former WWE Champion, here's your chance!

Michael Cole, Nigel McGuinness, and William Regal will be doing commentary for the UK Championship tournament. I assume Nigel will join someone else doing play-by-play if it becomes a full show.

Alexa Bliss was interviewed before Tuesday's Smackdown:
- She makes the most of her size!

- The women's division is definitely improving. 2017 will be a big year with more NXT callups and some new faces joining the company.

- Cheerleading is a workout! It prepared her well.

Smackdown drew 2.64 million viewers, a pretty good bump from previous weeks. That's good. Hopefully next week's big show gets an even bigger number.

ESPN put out a trailer for its upcoming Ric Flair documentary. There's only one Ric!

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I wholly expect Jericho to face Owens in the next few months, in the timeframe of WM33. He's sticking around longer than I expected him to. I wouldn't be surprised if he does a program with Balor and/or Nakamura as well before going back to doing work for Fozzy.

2. I would think WWE Management sees a big money dream match differently from the fans who love Samoa Joe. Even the fans who've started watching Joe in NXT are the minority compared to the number of people who know who Goldberg is. WWE only has guys like Brock, Sting, etc. for a few big matches, and they don't want to risk making less money on an "unproven" star. Obviously that's a Catch-22 because people can't get over if they're not pushed as mattering, but WWE's thinking of that short-term payday.

3. Shane's a pretty lenient boss, huh?

4. Not yet. The women's divisions could still use some building before that becomes something people want to see. Hopefully once more names come up from NXT and we see signings from the women's tournament, they'll get on a path to where that doesn't seem so farfetched.

5. I think a lot of it is WWE having so much time to fill each week. Even if they did something on the level of Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead, fans would get burned out from that much content. Plus there's a ridiculous amount of content on the Network, WWE video games, etc. When WWE does have a fresh matchup of compelling characters, it can only stay fresh so long before people want to see the next thing. It's tough!

More wrestling tomorrow.

NXT and ROH Reax - 12/21/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's NXT and ROH.

Wednesday, December 21, 2016

TND on DVD, upcoming ROH matches, Final Battle preshow match online, WWE signee says goodbye to indies, Interviews with Barrett/Rush, Sting working for the Cowboys?, Raw audience, Corgan/Lagana to ROH?, crazy new WWE figures, Female superstar to Arnold Classic, Smackdown preview, and Questions on Foley wrestling again, pushing Cesaro, not pushing The Ryback, what talents do when not booked, and getting a new ring name in WWE

Total Nonstop Deletion will be released on DVD in 2017, featuring some deleted scenes. I don't remember the last time TNA released a DVD, so maybe this means that end of the company is being sorted out under Anthem's ownership.

ROH has announced more matches for their January 14 TV taping:
- Jay Lethal vs. Jay Briscoe
- Bull James vs. Silas Young
- War Machine vs. BJ Whitmer/Punishment Martinez
-- Jay vs. Jay is a rematch from several PPV main events for the ROH World Title. Also, it looks like Whitmer will at least stick around for that taping. His contract was said to be up at the end of the year.

ROH released video of  Tempura Boyz vs. Cheeseburger/Will Ferrara, the dark match from before Final Battle.

Heidi Lovelace did a farewell speech for Alpha-1 Wrestling. She's headed to the WWE Performance Center soon.

The former Wade Barrett talked about WWE and more:
- I can't blame him for not putting his body on the line if he can get good work doing something less taxing.

- Not everyone can be pushed/get an angle they want to do. That's just the reality of the business. If people don't understand that ahead of making the main roster, their trainers have really failed.

- I do wish Nexus had gone further. Barrett had a lot of potential, but WWE didn't capitalize on it.

- King Barrett wasn't very exciting. BNB had its moments, and he obviously enjoyed the role.

- There are a lot of performers who don't get to do interesting work.

- It is good to get a break from doing the same thing for years.

- TNA or ROH or someone would be lucky to have him.

Sting was in an ad for the Dallas Cowboys. Pretty funny.

Raw's audience Monday was 2.94 million, so they got a jump from Roadblock.

Billy Corgan and Dave Lagana recently met with ROH management, so it's possible they end up joining the creative branch of the company. It will be interesting to see what would change should they come in. I wouldn't be surprised if some TNA names decided to join them if that comes to pass.

ROH has booked The Briscoes vs. The Young Bucks in a Two Out Of Three Falls match on February 4. That should be a barnburner.

Cody vs. Donovan Dijak is set for ROH's February 3. That's an interesting one.

Lio Rush talked to ESPN. Wow. Was no one else available?

- I'm a little surprised he has an amateur background.

- Lio is SMALL. But he's athletic; there's no denying that.

- Man. Having a kid and having to provide at 18 is rough.

- Umm yeah, the WWEPC isn't just for anyone in Orlando.

- Lio was definitely the "it" flippy guy for a while.

- Hahahahaha even ROH didn't want him? Damn.

- It makes sense they wanted him to "earn" a spot given how young he is. How much does he really want it?

- I admire his resolve.

WWE replayed Tribute to the Troops on Universal HD.

WWE "mutant" action figures are now available. Literally what the fuck. I like them for the sheer insanity of it.

Dana Brooke has been invited to compete in the 2017 Arnold Classic. She got her start in WWE due to a tryout at a previous Classic.

Set for next week's Smackdown:
- John Cena returns
- Alexa Bliss vs. Becky Lynch for the Smackdown Women's Championship
- The Wyatt Family vs. The Usos vs. American Alpha vs. Heath Slater/Rhyno for the Smackdown Tag Team Championship
- AJ Styles vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin for the WWE Championship
-- They definitely want that to be a big episode of the show.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I've wondered this, too. I think it's still a stretch to think he'll get back in the ring anytime soon. I'm leaning toward thinking it would be a plunder match with few major bumps if he did compete again, but I wouldn't 100% rule anything out after his amazing weight loss.

2. I would think WWE sees him as a good hand, but not someone who can be a major player. He needs to show he has enough charisma to command a crowd outside of doing a bunch of uppercuts and the Swing. Grabbing the brass ring is about more than having a critically-approved match.

3. Injuries, and perhaps the feeling he was an unsafe worker. Also, when he was in the mix for the WWE Title against Punk, WWE was building toward Punk vs. Rock for the title with Rock ending the big title reign. So, it wouldn't work for Ryback to derail Punk there.

4. I assume they just hang out and play video games or something. They do generally work live events, though, so they're not entirely out of work if they're not working on TV.

5. Before Samoa Joe (and Sting) came in, the rule for about 10 years was EVERYONE got a new WWE name. They knew coming in they weren't going to be who they were on the indie scene. It's just a matter of them signing before the rule was changed.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Smackdown and 205 Live Reax - 12/20/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Smackdown and 205 Live.

Tuesday, December 20, 2016

Ryder injury update, NXT preview, learn with The Dragon, more WWE music, WWE chairs coming, last stand for the Dudleys?, more NXT in Texas, live event press, Neville press, live TNA PPV coming, Universal Title match set for Rumble, and Questions on Breezango's lack of a push, Hogan's Gawker case being a work, Eva's in-ring future, pushing Ziggler, and Tye in the Rumble

Zack Ryder will miss significant time due to his knee injury. Sorry to hear that. I hope he's back sooner rather than later.

Set for this week's NXT:
- The Authors of Pain vs. Johnny Vandal/Anthony Bowens
- Bille Kay vs. Daria Berenato
- #DIY vs. The Revival
- Bobby Roode vs. Andrade "Cien" Almas vs. Tye Dillinger vs. Roderick Strong to determine the No. 1 Contender for the NXT Championship at Takeover: San Antonio.

Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat will be doing a training seminar in Connecticut on January 21.

WWE has released a new theme music collection. Jim Johnston is definitely HOF-worthy at some point.

WWE is releasing a line of Superstar-related chairs. I believe they're chairs for gaming. That should be interesting.

D-Von Dudley has worked his final independent match before joining WWE full-time as a producer. That could end up being his last wrestling match. Bubba's definitely going to keep wrestling for the time being. I assume the Dudleys will end up in the Hall of Fame at some point, as they should.

NXT will hit Texas for shows on January 26 and 27 before Takeover on the 28th.

A recent Smackdown live event got press. AJ and Cena will be back in action soon.

Neville was profiled in the UK. I'm pleasantly surprised with his return; he needed a change in direction.

TNA will air a live One Night Only PPV on January 6, following a semi-live edition of Impact the night before. Then there will be several more days of taping. I assume that ONO show will mostly be fairly meaningless action in the grand scheme of things, but they might set up a match or two the night before like they did last time.

Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns will face off for the WWE Universal Championship again at Royal Rumble. This time, Chris Jericho will be suspended above the ring in a shark cage a la Paul Ellering. I'm split on that one, since we've already seen Owens and Reigns work with each other a good deal. I assume they're saving Owens vs. Y2J for WM33. We'll see.

After Raw, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns fought with Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens, leading to Jericho being raised in the shark cage. After the cage was brought back down, Rollins and Reigns ended the night by putting both men in the cage and having it raised. Crazy stuff.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. A dancer and a male model being a comedy act is punishment? Smackdown has the Wyatts and Usos as top heels. There's no way I'd push Breezango above either of those acts, so they're just kind of hanging out in the undercard. I like the team, but I don't think they're being misused.

2. Don't work yourself into a shoot, brother. Hulk catching himself on tape saying racial slurs and having sex with his best friend's wife would be a pretty unlikely scenario. While seemingly anything can happen in 2016, it doesn't look like they pulled off a big work.

3. Honestly given how small the Smackdown women's division is she should probably at least step in the ring here and there. It'd be good to have her work live events or at the performance center in order to improve.

4. Here's the thing: while Ziggler fans apparently will "consider subscribing" to see him in a main event, WWE wants to get fans who will definitely subscribe to see their main events. Ziggler's an amazing athlete, but can he get fans' attention for more than "he works hard and takes crazy bumps"? That's what separates an IC-level guy from someone WWE will regularly feature in the main event.

5. That would be hilarious! I don't know if it's time for him to become a regular member of the main roster, but that would be a fun moment in the Rumble.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Raw Reax - 12/19/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Raw.

NXT live event note and Questions on FloSlam vs. WWE Network, WWE title design, how the UK Title will work, and Owen/Chyna in the Hall of Fame

Patrick Clark and Oney Lorcan worked as a team at an NXT live event this weekend, so that could be getting a tryout as a regular pairing. That could be an interesting combination of the serious Lorcan and... whatever Clark is.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. They could have 500 live shows a month, but if people want to watch WWE/NXT/205 Live content instead, it won't be worth it to check out FloSlam at that or any price point.

2. I love the new title's look. I don't dislike the main roster titles other than the colors of the straps. I see why they went the way they did, though. "Just put a big WWE logo on it and make sure one's red for Raw and one's blue for Smackdown goddamnit." At least AJ's title didn't get changed to a blue strap.

3. I think it's just going to be defended among UK wrestlers in the UK. The plan is to make a regular show in that market separate from Raw, Smackdown, NXT and 205 Live. If that doesn't work out, I imagine they'll have it defended at places like PROGRESS, RevPro, etc.

4. Until/unless Martha Hart consents to him going into the Hall of Fame, I don't see WWE putting him in. But stranger things have happened, so I wouldn't totally rule out seeing him in the Hall someday. I just don't think it's imminent.

5. I think they could induct her and just focus on her wrestling accomplishments, with someone like Sean Waltman speaking on her behalf. Or maybe they wait for the DX group induction. We'll have a better idea when the 2017 Hall season starts.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Roadblock: End Of The Line Reax

Big Show update, new Network episodes, Balor cameo, and Questions on the WM33 main event, why Tribute stays stateside, time-travelling, lucha streaming, and LU S4

Big Show is working Raw live events this weekend. I wouldn't assume he'll be back on the road full-time at this point, but it's entirely possible. He's definitely set to be part of the road to Wrestlemania 33; having him work with Goldberg and Brock in the Rumble would make sense.

Monday after Raw will be a brand new WWE Story Time. Wednesday will have a new episode of "Table for 3" with Sgt. Slaughter, Jim Duggan, and Nikolai Volkoff. Both shows are pretty enjoyable. It's nice to see something from WWE personalities in addition to wrestling.

Finn Balor made a surprise appearance at Ireland's Over The Top Wrestling. I expect plenty of WWE courting that market as time goes on.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. That would definitely be big, and not outside the realm of possibility. This could be their only chance to do Cena vs. Taker, so they should probably take it.

2. I honestly have no idea unless it's a logistics/safety thing.

Nothing to really add to 3.

4. Just learned about this gimmick. It sounds AMAZING. Why can't The Ascension get something like that?

5. Hopefully they have that in the works, since so many fans want to watch wrestling that way now.

6.  Those involved still want it to happen, and are hoping to start filming it. But there hasn't been any confirmation it's happening.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Roadblock: End Of The Line preview

Read on for my ideas for booking tonight's Raw special event.

Saturday, December 17, 2016

TND to air on Challenge after all, TNA launches app for UK fans to watch Impact, what the next episodes of Impact will look like, Smackdown guest star, TND audience, WWE UK shows sell out, TND available online, and Questions on WWE buying NJPW, multiple Doinks, Darth Sheamus, the future of New Day's title reign, and top female characters

ChallengeTV will air Total Nonstop Deletion on December 18 as one of the final episodes of the show there. Odd that they weren't originally going to show it, even if it is a lame-duck program for them.

TNA has launched an app for UK fans to watch Impact Wrestling for $1.99 a month. So, that's their solution to losing the TV deal with Challenge. I'm sure they'd rather be paid to air the content, but this is an attempt to at least make some money from the show in that market.

The next two Impact Wrestling episodes are recap episodes to close out 2016. One of those is a special look back at 2016 from the Hardys. That should be pretty interesting.

Ryan Phillipe will be on Smackdown to promote USA Network's Shooter. I assume he'll have a segment with Miz or something. Meh.

Total Nonstop Deletion drew 329,000 viewers. That's not a huge number; it's pretty much what TNA usually gets. As much as I love the Hardys content, it's probably time to chart a new direction for 2017 as it doesn't look like it's getting the kind of outside buzz the original Final Deletion got.

WWE's UK tournament has already sold out both nights. That's impressive! The scene there is really heating up, and WWE's poised to take advantage of it. I expect ROH will do more there going forward as well.

PopTV has put the entire Total Nonstop Deletion episode on their wesbite. That show's going down in wrestling history; I absolutely think we'll be talking about it for years to come.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I don't see any way that happens anytime soon. NJPW is doing well financially and expanding their work. I could see WWE trying to make a Japan Championship someday down the line, though, and signing more talent from the region.

2. And about 9,000 unofficial ones, even after Borne's passing.

3. No, but that would be hilarious. I'M YER FATHER FELLA!

4. I'll be surprised if they're still champs by the Rumble. Time for something fresh. It's not like they won't still be insanely over without the titles.

5. Can't argue with those picks. I'd like to think you could throw Miss Elizabeth in there on the babyface side, though.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Friday, December 16, 2016

Ellsworth indie note, Sandman needs help, WWE seeking ROH name for trainer, ROH name signs new deal, Balor return update, Raw before the Rumble will be big, Usos return set, women joining WWEPC soon, Fulton injury update, WWE announces big UK tournament, ROH commentator jumps to WWE, big HHH interview, Ryder headed to surgery, Brock suspended from MMA, Brisco on finding Brock, Tribute audience, and Questions on no European Championship, the Slammys, Mid-South rights, Foley knocking Eva Marie, and Paige returning

James Ellsworth has been pulled from a HOH event on December 17 in order to work a Smackdown live event. WWE usually lets talents work shows they've already been advertised for, although they're not required to. There's no word on WWE sending someone in his place or anything.

The Sandman will be undergoing a number of surgeries due to injuries sustained in the ring. I hope those lead to him being free of pain and being able to live a better life.

WWE is reportedly interested in BJ Whitmer as a trainer at the Performance Center. I wouldn't blame him for taking the position if the pay is good. It would be a real shame on ROH's end to lose him, though. He's one of the few talents who stands out from the ROH mold, and he's really able to work in an old-school way.

Silas Young has officially signed a new one-year contract with ROH. He's another valuable piece of the ROH puzzle by virtue of being unique to what others there do. I'd like to see him have another solid angle in 2017.

Finn Balor is targeting a return at WM33. Or perhaps the night after? The Rumble doesn't really seem like a strong possibility. I'll be glad to see him back and in the mix for the Universal Championship.

Brock Lesnar, Goldberg, and Paul Heyman are all advertised for the Raw before the Royal Rumble. I hope they announce what Undertaker is doing soon, because they've got a LOT of seats to fill. Taker hasn't been seen since announcing he was back.

The Usos are advertised as returning to action at the December 26 Smackdown live event in Madison Square Garden.

Heidi Lovelace and Kimber Lee will start at the WWE Performance Center in January. Evie and Nixon Newell will report in April. I imagine all four names will be in the as-yet-unannounced women's tournament.

Sawyer Fulton is expected to miss several months. We'll see what happens in regard to his status with Sanity once he's cleared. Big Damo has effectively replaced him for now.

WWE has announced a UK Championship tournament coming to the Network on January 14 and 15. The tournament, with 16 competitors, will take place in Blackpool. As with the CWC before it, there is a possibility this becomes the launchpad for a larger series. This is a big milestone for WWE in that market as they become increasingly global.

- Nigel McGuinness will be one of the commentators for the tournament. He is not under ROH contract, and has been written off as their matchmaker. ROH was caught off-guard by his abrupt exit, which they were unaware of until this past weekend.

-- McGuinness commented on signing with WWE. It's a surreal moment for the former ROH and TNA performer after not being able to join the company as a wrestler years back.

- WWE has named 18 talents for the tournament, two of whom will be on-hand as alternates:
-- Trent Seven
-- Jack Starz
-- Pete Dunne
-- Wolfgang
-- Roy Johnson
-- Sam Gradwell
-- James Drake
-- Jordan Devlin
-- Tyler Bate
-- Joseph Conners
-- Tyson T. Bone
-- HC Dyer
-- Dan Moloney
-- Chris Tyler
-- Saxon Huxley
-- Ringo Ryan
-- Tiger Ali
-- Tucker

--- Somewhat surprisingly, Zack Sabre, Jr. will not be part of the series. I suppose he wants to remain an independent star for the time being.

- WWE put out a press release for the tournament. I wouldn't be shocked if this leads to similar ventures in other parts of the world. WWE is going ALL IN with being a presence around the globe, picking up talents from many different countries.

- Triple H did a big interview on the series:
--  It looks like some of the names announced will be in qualifying matches to earn a spot in the tournament.

-- It's too early to think too much about, say, a Japan Championship, but it's something to look at for the future.

-- If WWE doesn't get a UK show, it could be a mess booking title matches on the indies.

-- The next few years will be big for WWE in the UK. I think it's entirely possible we see a PPV or main roster Network special from there before too much longer.

-- I think Chyna will go in the Hall at some point when there's enough distance from her "outside the ring activities."

-- Hahaha HHH dead-on that people will complain no matter what you book.

-- I wouldn't be shocked in the least to see Trump at Wrestlemania.

Zack Ryder will soon be undergoing knee surgery following his injury on Smackdown. I hope he's not out too long. They could do a fun oddball pairing of Mojo and Curt Hawkins for a while if they want. It's not like Curt's doing much else!

Brock Lesnar has been suspended from MMA until July due to his failed drug test before UFC 200. His win that night has been ruled a no-contest, and Lesnar will also pay a $250,000 fine. I hope that was worth it for Brock, because I don't know if UFC would be willing to work with him again after this ruling. This isn't expected to affect WWE's plans for him or his wrestling future, but it does seem to cement him as a wrestler instead of a wrestler who occasionally does MMA.

Gerry Brisco talked about recruiting Brock and more:
- It's weird to think Brisco and Patterson will be known by a lot of people as the stooges instead of for their legacies before that.

- Brock's gifted enough to do pretty much anything, so he's going to go wherever will let him do what he likes to do.

- I hope we do see Shelton back in WWE!

- Wes looked to have potential when we saw him in TNA. Only so many people can "make it" in the business, though.

Tribute to the Troops drew just under 1.40 million viewers. Not bad at all.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. They want to focus on the UK specifically with this series. If the title is a hit, it's possible we see more regional championships.

2. I doubt we've seen the last of the concept, but there aren't any plans to do a Slammy Awards broadcast at this time.

3. WWE probably let them continue to sell the material they still had around after the deal went down.

4. The comparison between the fighting babyface and the heel who's done everything she can to not get in the ring was the right one for that segment. She has yet to have a televised match since being drafted to Smackdown.

5. She's not figured into plans at this time, as she hasn't been cleared to get back in the ring.

More wrestling tomorrow.

ROH and Total Nonstop Deletion Reax - 12/15/16

Read on for my thoughts on yesterday's special episodes of ROH and Impact Wrestling.

Thursday, December 15, 2016

Ryder hurt, Lilian note, more Smackdown visitors, Naomi note, where Corbin was this week, Tajiri's future, WWE/Tribute press, AJ taking a break from the ring, who produces 205 Live, Kickoff guest panelist set, big moment for POC in WWE, Jarrett in talks to return to TNA?, Slammys update, big Bucks profile, Smackdown audience, TNA's final shows on Challenge set, and Questions on booking AJ vs. Taker, Ellsworth beating AJ, Eva Marie's future, NXT being a success, and Y2J vs. Owens

Zack Ryder injured his knee during Smackdown, and was on crutches backstage. Hopefully he doesn't have to miss much ring time. He was about set for his biggest role in some time.

Lilian Garcia working Tribute to the Troops was a special occasion. There's no word on her coming back for more than that special appearance.

Sgt. Slaughter and Nikolai Volkoff were at Smackdown, as well. I wouldn't have minded Slaughter, Steamboat, and Volkoff getting a little screen time on that episode.

- Naomi was backstage, too. She's still rehabbing an injury.

Baron Corbin and Corey Graves were at the Revolver Music Awards in New York City Tuesday night. Corbin was named the most metal athlete of the year.

Tajiri will be part of 205 Live, as expected. That's the right move. He'll be a valuable experienced name on the brand.

WWE visited a local middle school for an anti-bullying rally before Smackdown.

An Australian who tried out for WWE recently was profiled. WWE continues to expand internationally, so I expect them to pick up more names from outside the U.S. as time goes on.

AJ Styles has been pulled from live events until the December 26 show in Madison Square Garden. WWE is keeping him out of the ring while he recovers from an ankle injury. I hope he gets back to form for WM33 season, as he could be in for a pretty good run.

Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn are producing 205 Live, with Vince being hands-on with the cruiserweights. I have no real complaints with how things have been so far. The show does feel different enough from Raw and Smackdown to stand out.

Radio host Sam Roberts will be part of Roadblock Kickoff. I like WWE bringing in outside voices to give us something different.

Big Show and Bayley promoted Tribute to the Troops. I wouldn't be surprised if Show gets a Legends deal or something as an ambassador after his in-ring days are up.

Big E tweeted regarding New Day, Sasha Banks, and Rich Swann all holding championships. That's a big milestone for all of them and for people of color in general.

- Unsurprisingly, there were those who took issue with the hashtag #BlackExcellence. Kofi Kingston responded to this criticism; I think he handled it well.

Jeff Jarrett has had meetings with Anthem Sports, the new majority owners of TNA, regarding how the company has been run at different times while he was at the helm. While it is possible he will end up returning to TNA, there has been no agreement for him to do so at this time. Jarrett could return in a number of roles, either as a performer, a member of management, or part of the creative team.

- Regardless of what happens between Jarrett and TNA, he is expected to continue GFW. He has had a number of meetings to try to get that project on TV.

There are currently no plans for a Slammy Awards ceremony in 2016. I can't say I'm that disappointed, but I am a little surprised they won't at least do something like that on the WWE Network or the website.

The Young Bucks talked about the big impact they've had on wrestling:
- They make an interesting duo. They draw attention like few others.

- The Bucks are wise to have made friends with wrestling journalists. That's part of the work in 2016: getting praise from influential voices.

- They walk that line between trying way too hard and being extremely dedicated to their craft.

- Fans like to be in on the "ironic" "meta" gimmick and all.

- Wrestlers being able to succeed outside of WWE is good for the business.

- I'm glad Cabana's getting credit for his hustle.

- OH MY GOD THERE'S ANOTHER BUCK!?

- Amazing their parents let them go that route. Obviously it paid off for them, but how many people have tried that and failed?

- They've made a niche for themselves as the team people hate or pretend to hate but love or whatever.

- It's worth noting Vince Russo saw them as hard to work with. It's not just "they don't have any ideas for the Bucks." It was "Russo doesn't think they respect the business and they're just spot monkeys." He had a point.

- DAMN. That Popeye's biscuit story is ROUGH.

- Gee, you think Meltzer's cozy relationship with certain highly-regarded wrestlers might color his coverage?

- I definitely see them as a circus act, but they make the most of that act!

- The Bucks definitely know how to work people into spending money. More power to them!

- I respect the Bucks' work ethic. I can't fault them for making it their own way.

- Well, the fans who know how the Bucks are are the people who will go to ProWrestlingTees.com.

- Everyone wants to be the ascended fan like the Bucks are.

- The Bucks effectively got a lot of companies feuding to give them more money. And I'm sure their journalist buddies happy to report everything that was happening to fuel that fire

- Oh yeah, the Bucks and their reporter buddies stoke the "are they going to WWE or somewhere else" thing a lot.

- I can only imagine the Bucks being in WWE with the other Clubbers. Maybe Anderson and Gallows would be less stuck in limbo?

- A lot of their moves are just incredible!

- I do wonder what their next evolution is.

Smackdown this week drew 2.36 million viewers. They're setting the December 27 show up to be big, so we'll see if that pays off.

TNA has aired its last original show on Challenge in the UK. The channel isn't showing Total Nonstop Deletion. TNA will have a Best of 2016 special and a Hardys in 2016 special on the channel for future episodes. I assume those two episodes will come to the U.S. for the next two weeks. These is no word on TNA having a TV home in the UK for 2017.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. How about AJ kicks out of at least one Tombstone and wins after a low blow and Styles Clash? Taker can attack him after the match or something to get his heat back. He'll be fine. They need to focus on AJ being a credible top name going forward, as Taker's not going to be around for much longer and Cena's becoming something of a part-timer now as well.

2. As was alluded to, it's not like James has beaten AJ clean or anything. They've been careful with how they've booked their matches. Hopefully AJ will get James off his back and become a bigger deal for Mania season, though.

3. There hasn't really been any word of her getting back on WWE TV anytime soon, but she hasn't been released or anything.

4. NXT isn't exclusively a developmental promotion anymore, although it does prepare some of the outside-WWE names for what their style is like for when they do get called up. I compare WWE using indie stars to the NBA or NFL using people who played those sports in college. Those talents already have a lot of skills; it's just a matter of those skills being molded into what is needed in a different environment. As for their home-grown stars, it takes a lot of time to get at the level of some of the people who've come in with years of experience.

5. I definitely think Owens/Y2J is likely for the Rumble. I assume Jericho will be going back to music-related work before too much longer, and that would be an opportune time to cap off his latest run if he's not working through WM33.

More wrestling tomorrow.

NXT and Tribute To The Troops Reax - 12/14/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's NXT and Tribute to the Troops.

Wednesday, December 14, 2016

UK legend to WWEPC, 205 Live update, big UK announcement soon?, Steph appearance, Raw Talk returns, Kickoff match set, more on Booker's future, Tribute hype, New Day book coming, Raw audience, NJPW to the U.S., Smackdown visitor, Smackdown dark match, Cena return set, and Questions on the Rumble winner's title match, potential WM33 matches, promoting Tye, Gallagher as champion, and why we see the same matches a lot

UK legend Johnny Saint is joining the WWE Performance Center for six months as a trainer. That will be a good learning experience for the developmental talents.

205 Live will go live again next week. Tribute to The Troops caused a shift in the schedule. The production team has a LOT of content to do on Mondays and Tuesdays, and an increasing number of Sundays. They're warriors, too.

Triple H, William Regal, and Finn Balor will appear in London Thursday for a media appearance. There could be (a) big announcement(s) coming this week for the UK.

Stephanie McMahon appeared in a video with YouTube star Lilly Singh. WWE's trying to continue to break digital ground as television ratings remain tepid.

Raw Talk will follow Sunday's Roadblock event. I'm going to assume that's going to be a regular thing following brand-centric specials like those.

Big Cass vs. Rusev will take place on the Roadblock Kickoff show. I'm a little surprised that's the match that got bumped to that spot. I wonder if we'll get a filler cruiserweight tag match, too.

Booker T. released a statement regarding running for mayor of Houston in 2019. I'm only going to cover how this affects his life as a wrestler and a WWE employee. Certainly I don't expect him to leave the company in the near term, but we'll see what happens as that timeframe approaches.

WWE did quite a bit of local press and work ahead of Tribute to the Troops. It's an important show for the company.

New Day will release a self-help book in time for Wrestlemania 33 called "The Book Of Booty: Shake It. Love It. Never Be It." That should be pretty entertaining, although I wonder how much longer the act will be fresh with some of its central themes. "Jabronis" and "pie" got old after a while. I don't want to see New Day head that way yet.

Raw Monday night drew 2.76 million viewers, notably down from previous weeks. The end of the year can be pretty slow before things heat up for the build to the Rumble.

NJPW is looking to run a number of shows in the United States in 2017, possibly including part of the G1 Climax tournament. That could certainly be a big venture for the company. They're a bigger player in the world of wrestling than TNA or ROH.

- NJPW is looking at running near Los Angeles in July.

Ricky Steamboat was backstage at Smackdown.

Neville beat Curtis Axel in a dark match before Smackdown. Kind of odd they did a Raw match before Smackdown, but Raw has a bigger roster of people they don't use on TV, so I guess it's fitting.

John Cena will return to WWE TV on the December 27 Smackdown. I expect he'll hop right back into an important role when he does.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I hope the winner gets to choose which champion they want to face, as was done in the previous brand extension. It adds some intrigue to what the match result means. Like, what if Finn Balor wins and challenges AJ Styles?

2. All of them make sense and could be big deals if built well. I don't think anyone expects Show vs. Shaq to be a technical classic, but hopefully it will get some curious viewers to check out the WWE Network/come out to the event. Strowman vs. Reigns could also be a big spectacle and an all-out brawl. The other two would definitely be great matches.

3. Tye's biggest asset is effectively getting other guys over while retaining credibility. Now he's starting to build some momentum of his own. I don't think it's time to call him up, since I don't think he'd be worthy of a big push. I'd rather him keep building up a following to where people are really excited to see what he does on a bigger stage.

4. I'm really enjoying his work and would have no complaints about him becoming champion at some point.

5. The rosters are only so big, and there's a lot of TV time to fill. When something "works," WWE sticks with it as long as possible because there are only so many feuds they can do after the brand extension. I think that's the primary issue: how many hours of content they have to provide.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Smackdown and 205 Live Reax - 12/13/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Smackdown and 205 Live.

Tuesday, December 13, 2016

Elgin injury update, Paige post-suspension note, A-Listers have time off, Cedric's status, NXT lineup change, Hero-WWE update, WWE Aussie tryout notes, recent ROH departure's future, big milestone for Mick, former X-Division Champion done with TNA, big tag match set for ROH TV, Another Alberto/Paige incident, new Roadblock matches, Sydal is back, Takeover:Orlando is set, Interview with Orton, Nigel's ROH status update, more WOH coming, Raw before Mania set, and Questions on the Hype Bros, the first Undisputed Champion, a 2017 draft, NXT in the Rumble, and the state of WWE women in 2016

Michael Elgin will not be wrestling as part of NJPW's big January 4 show after all. I hope he's back before too much longer; he's very talented.

Paige is not set to be on the road for WWE this week after her second Wellness-related suspension has ended. She has not been cleared to return to the ring to my knowledge.

The Miz and Maryse were given this past weekend off after requesting it. Everyone needs a refresher.

Cedric Alexander was held out of the ring Sunday as a precaution after it was felt he might have suffered a concussion.

Sawyer Fulton has been removed from Sanity due to an arm-related injury. Big Damo is replacing him in the group. I'm curious how that will turn out. Damo's impressive from what little I've seen of him.

Chris Hero seemingly fired back at reports he's returning to WWE. There has been no confirmation he will be headed there in 2017, but there have indeed been websites reporting it and it could very well end up being true.

WWE showcased its recent tryout in Australia. It's surprising they're releasing who's part of those, but I suppose it shows the quality of people they're able to recruit and people are going to find out about a lot of them from other sites anyway, so they might as well get some traffic on their own site in the process.

Former ROH talent ACH is expected to begin working regularly for NJPW in 2017. So, for anyone hoping for him to show up in NXT or on 205 Live, it doesn't look like that's happening.

Mick Foley has lost 100 pounds in the last year. That's phenomenal! I hope his positive health changes serve him well for years to come.

Tigre Uno has left TNA. Tigre hadn't worked there since January, so that's hardly a surprise. Presumably he's now free to try out for ROH or WWE. He has more than a decade of experience, so he'd be valuable wherever he ends up.

Cody and Adam Cole vs. Kyle O'Reilly and Jay Lethal has been set for ROH's next TV taping. So, the babyfaces will be staying with the company through at least mid-January. There has been no report of either man signing a new contract, but certainly they're still on good enough terms to keep working for the time being.

Alberto El Patron got in a physical confrontation at an event in Mexico where his brother was wrestling. El Patron and Paige were backstage, and El Patron ended up fighting with a local performer over an incident regarding the WWE star. The fight spilled out into a hallway where fans were able to see what was going on, with the larger El Patron got the better of the confrontation. If I was a promotion looking to make use of his services, this would make me think twice. El Patron getting in incidents is not an isolated occurrence at this point. As for Paige, who should have many years ahead of her in the business, she could be throwing that all away with her behavior and antics. WWE is taking note, I can promise you.

- El Patron was unrepentant about the incident on Twitter. Wrestling is one of the few lines of work that will tolerate that kind of action in the workplace.

Officially added to WWE Roadblock: The End Of The Line:
- Rich Swann vs. TJ Perkins vs. Brian Kendrick for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship
- Braun Strowman vs. Sami Zayn
- Big Cass vs. Rusev

Matt Sydal has returned to the United States. I'm interested to see what his next steps are.

Triple H has officially announced an NXT Takeover special the night before WM33. It's fully expected NXT will begin having Takeovers before the Big Four WWE events.

Randy Orton talked about the Chris Jericho/Brock Lesnar incident and more:
- I don't think the backstage incident got as much attention as the match. The percentage of fans that follows "dirt sheets" is low. They're vocal, but they're still a small section of the fan base.

- Jericho "wanting to fight Brock" is hilarious. I can almost guarantee Chris sent word to his friends at the dirtsheets that he was a huge badass and backed Brock down, etc. And, of course, they bought it.

- I wouldn't expect Brock to be fun to be around. He's clearly just there to make a buck and is known for not being sociable.

- Seeing Orton doing something new is good. His character had been stagnant for a while.

- I don't see Bray being World Champion anytime soon, since he's got to compete with AJ Styles for the top heel spot.

- AJ vs. Orton would be great.

- Oh people are really going to be upset about him putting HHH over.

Nigel McGuinness could end up joining the WWE Performance Center sooner rather than later. ROH losing him and Corino would be a big hit, but two great signings for WWE.

ROH has plans for declaring a women's champion and offering contracts to a number of performers as regulars. Kelly Klein, Mandy Leon, Deonna Purrazzo, and Taeler Hendrix are at the top of their list, unsurprisingly. I would expect Sumie Sakai to be involved a good deal, too, and possibly ODB.

Raw will be in Pennsylvania on March 27 for the final episode before Wrestlemania 33.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I like the team. I think they play off each other pretty well, and it gets Mojo experience working with a veteran. I don't want to see them throw that away to reunite a team that didn't exactly light the world on fire.

2. STONE COLD! STONE COLD! STONE COLD! BAH GAWD KING THE TEXAS RATTLESNAKE!! Jericho winning was a shock, but it made sense. He needed the credibility boost; the other names were already "made."

3. I'm OK with them doing the whole "Raw and Smackdown get six 'random' picks from the other show" thing this summer to shake things up and give people new opponents. It will be time for some changes by then.

4. I expect an NXT name or two to be in the mix, but I wouldn't assume it will automatically mean they're full-on members of the main roster.

5. I definitely think things have really improved to where the women are important parts of the show. The only real downsides I have are the cheap use of the word "bitch" and the lame "Total Divas"/catfight kind of angles. Hopefully we have more Sashas and fewer Carmellas going forward. I expect we will, but there's no telling in WWE.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Raw Reax - 12/12/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Raw.

Monday, December 12, 2016

XFL special trailer, Booker eyeing non-wrestling future, Race health update, why WWE dropped pre-shows, Gulak wraps things up, new role for Nigel?, and Questions on Total Nonstop Deletion, Goldberg not taking bumps, Bryan not facing Miz, Hulk vs. Brock, and the Smackdown tag team division

ESPN put out the trailer for their XFL special. That should be really entertaining.

Booker T. recently said he plans to run for mayor of Houston in 2020. While that's a good ways off and there's no guarantee he'll win, it's worth noting in case it does it affect his future with wrestling. He'll be 55 by then, and has certainly earned a life after wrestling if that's where his passions lead.

Harley Race has been moved to a nursing home as part of physical therapy for his knees. It is not a permanent move. I hope recovery goes well for the legend.

WWE dropped the pre-game shows due to the costs involved. Namely, paying Jerry Lawler his Smackdown salary just to do those made things expensive. Lawler remains under contract through some time in January, and is expected to sign a new contract for a lesser amount. King could end up doing a show about Memphis wrestling on the WWE Network, which a lot of people would like to see, and he more or less has a job for life as the Master of Ceremonies for the WWE Hall of Fame each year. It makes sense to keep using the legend for select projects.

Drew Gulak worked his final EVOLVE match this weekend. He's now a full-time part of WWE's cruiserweight division.

ROH has removed Nigel McGuinness as their kayfabe matchmaker. He's being eyed to join the commentary team should Steve Corino head to WWE. It will be interesting to see what changes on-screen with Nigel as we progress through 2017.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I'm sure there not being a UK tour won't stop Nero from taking some crazy bumps!

2. There's been no indication that's the case. Goldberg's in about as good of shape he can be at his age. He'll presumably take plenty of bumps at WM33.

3. If WWE books Shinsuke or Joe to fight Miz on his behalf, I think fans will be mostly accepting.

4. I almost always love questions like this. I don't see Hulk returning to WWE, much less to the ring for WWE, anytime soon, but this was really entertaining.

5. Only a few teams can be important at any given time. So, they either push Slater/Rhyno, The Usos, American Alpha, and the Wyatts, or they can push those teams. I'm OK with the choices they've made as far as which teams are winning and which ones are losing.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Former NXT security head passes, NXT live event notes, WWE head writer dropped, another Goldberg date, a big look at WWE's business, Anthem-TNA update, TNA team gone, 2017 TNA schedule filling out, more new Network content, and Questions on a female Royal Rumble, TNA using Corgan's music, why Raw's roster is bigger, Shane disciplining Ambrose, and why WWE Films aren't on the Network

Former NXT security head Todd Garzon has passed away. Best of wishes to his friends and family at this time.

At an NXT live event in Florida:
- The Bollywood Boyz lost to Dawkins and Crawford.

- TJ Perkins beat Gran Metalik

- Lana beat Sarah Bridges (formerly Crazy Mary Dobson). Lana worked a different, babyface character. That's very interesting. Maybe she'll end up with Enzo and Cass after all?

- Cedric Alexander beat Dan Matha, but was checked out by trainers after the match. The match seemed to have been cut a little short. I hope the Charlotte native is OK.

One of WWE's head writers, Tom Casiello, has been let go by the company. He had worked for the company from 2006-2012 before returning late last year. Casiello was part of long-term planning and oversaw both main brand's writing teams. It will be quite interesting to see what, if anything, that means for Creative going forward. Obviously it's still Vince's ship or what have you, but Casiello would have been an important part of the process.

- Casiello summed things up, then went on to make further statements that he had a great time there, has nothing bad to say about anyone, etc. That's very classy of him. I wish him the best in wherever life takes him.

Goldberg has been announced for the January 23 Raw, the final episode before Royal Rumble. I expect some serious ass to be kicked that night.

Vice Sports took a deep look at the business of WWE:
- Shane and Stephanie are certainly different people behind-the-scenes, each with their respective strengths and goals.

- I really wonder how mainstream wrestling would have been if it didn't become sports entertainment.

- I agree being in tune with the live crowd is key. So many talents have memorized 50 spots and are more focused on that than the pacing the crowd dictates.

- There were predictions the Attitude Era would be fairly short-lived due to alienating advertisers with risque content. A lot of companies want to shy around from the "Jerry Springer" kind of crowd.

- Vince is a very commanding presence who expects a lot from people. It's a double-edged sword.

- Oooooh interesting comments about Stephanie's impact on Creative.

- NXT expanded the type of fans WWE reached.

- Bayley moving merch. That's hilarious.

- Also interesting about why HHH is doing NXT to be free of Vince.

- Nice burial of the smarks. I love it. Millennials don't watch TV like their parents do, so that explains some of why ratings are down.

- I'd also really like to see better characterization.

- The live attendance for WM32 was believed to be their biggest live attendance ever, but they had already inflated previous attendances, so they "had to" inflate things for WM32, too, for it to reflect that achievement.

- Worrying talk about how often Vince changes his mind.

- We NEED a great Vince biography about working for him, behind-the-scenes stories, etc.

- Oooooooooh really interesting about Dunn.

- I'm very curious how Shane would change Creative.

- There's a TV show to be made about working for WWE and how cut-throat it is.

- WWE Network is an evolving thing. Stumbling blocks happen.

- Yeah, the Network is a really risky venture as far as giving away SO MUCH CONTENT at such a low price.

- WHOA. That's a huge churn rate. I do assume a lot of people subscribe multiple times to do a lot of free trials.

- Oh wow. That social media stat is pretty crazy, too.

- Yeah, social media isn't a big money maker in of itself. The goal is to engage people for the Network, etc.

- Vince is definitely planning on the next generation, but the argument is of course that he should have passed the torch years ago.

- VERY interesting read overall.

Anthem Media has officially moved to funding TNA, and they now have an executive in the TNA offices in Tennessee. An announcement should be coming soon.

The Tribunal are no longer part of TNA following their contracts expiring. TNA is open to using to using them some going forward, but it's not easy logistically to use one talent from Canada and another from France on a regular basis. So, that explains why they lost to Shera and Al Snow. It will be interesting to see what's next for all four of them.

TNA is setting up live events for 2017, including the India tour being scheduled for summer. That's good news for all of them involved.

TNA plans on doing another set of tapings in Orlando in early March, and a live event in that area around the time of WM33. So, they're going to be able to run more regularly under Anthem's ownership.

Another new "Story Time" is coming after Raw. Alundra Blayze/Madusa will be on Legends with JBL Wednesday.

This week's NXT will feature the first round of a tournament to declare a new No. 1 Contender to Shinsuke Nakamura:
- Eric Young vs. Tye Dillinger
- Roderick Strong vs. Elias Samson
- Oney Lorcan vs. Bobby Roode
- Andrade "Cien" Almas vs. No Way Jose
-- The show will also feature footage from Nakamura vs. Joe in Australia.

WWE Network is adding episodes from Smackdown from 2006 as well as 2007 as they continue to look to fill out that section of the vault.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Maybe at some point in the future when there are enough talented women around to do a good job of it. Let's see how things go with the women they pick up from the upcoming tournament first.

2. I think that's entirely possible, unless Anthem thinks the music is worth making a new deal for. I wouldn't think Corgan would avoid making money from his music being in TNA if they'll give him a good price for it!

3. That, plus Mickie James is expected to go to Smackdown. Hopefully some NXT names will join the ranks in 2017, because things are pretty thin over there right now.

4. We'll see! I certainly don't expect Shane to give him any more title shots anytime soon.

5. WWE would rather have others pay them for the rights to show them on DVD, etc. than air them on the Network. Same for Raw and Smackdown!

More wrestling tomorrow.

Godderz gets acting gig, TNA audience, Interview with Nero, and Questions the end of Bryan vs. Miz, Rumbles then vs. now, HBK vs. Bam Bam, and NJPW World

Jessie Godderz has been cast as the star of an Amazon.com series. So it's presumably possible there will be times he won't be available to work TNA due to that endeavor. I assume they'll cross that bridge when they get to it; he's not really a major part of things to where him missing a few shows will hurt anything.

TNA's audience this week was 303,000, a little down from previous weeks. Next week's episode has been built up to for a while and will be from the Hardy Compound, so maybe that ends the year on a high note for the company. It's possible at least one of the remaining 2016 episodes is a clip show before their next tapings.

Brother Nero talked about DELETIONS and more:- The Hardys have been ridiculously entertaining. It's good to see a different direction in wrestling.

- He's not the only one worried about his health after so many crazy bumps. I admire his resolve, but it's frightening at the same time.

- I'm very glad he's been living clean for six years now. That's great to hear.

- TND sounds INSANE. I love it.

- The Hardys leaving TNA would be a huge hit to the company. They're the biggest stars there.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. They're definitely going to have to deliver something big. They could just have Bryan "pull a Goldberg" and dominate him in a minute, but they're going to have to make it clear not to expect a return to the Daniel Bryan of years back. I'd like to see Bryan make a call to Samoa Joe to do what Bryan can't and take the IC Title at WM33, but there's no indication of what their plans are at this time.

2. There's less unpredictability and bedlam in WWE period than the "fun" days, although that seems to be changing for the better. I think that's a general thing outside the Rumbles and doesn't have anything to do with Pat.

3. I can't find any record of one ever happening. That could definitely have been something great. I love that kind of dynamic.

4. WWE can afford giving out that much free content to people in the hopes they end up paying for it. NJPW doesn't have that level of resources. So, I wouldn't assume we'll see it anytime soon.

Nothing to add to 5. This has been asked three times recently!

More wrestling tomorrow.
