Superstars and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 6/30/11

Today on Superstars, Tyson Kidd teams up with former Corre members Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel to take on Trent Barreta and the Uso brothers. Then on Impact Wrestling, 3 ghosts of X-Division past return to battle for a spot in a match to get a new TNA contract. Plus, Sting continues his descent into madness. All this and plenty more coming up. Read on for my thoughts on the shows as they happen.

Query on Hardys-TNA, Questions on comedy vignettes, WWE vs. TNA, title belts, the WWE style, Batista takes up for Finlay, Rock responds to Punk, Del Rio interview, ex-Creative member looks at Punk's promo, Lethal talks TNA release, controversial Orton interview, JR looks at Punk's promo, Australian ratings, Murdoch apparently not returning, a look at the set for All Wheels Wrestling, and Piper cancer-free

First up, someone asks the blog when the Hardys will be back in TNA. They're in "wait and see" mode as far as Jeff 's legal situation goes, so I'd be somewhat surprised if we see him before that's settled. As for Matt, I believe he' still suspended from the company, so it could be a few weeks or more until he returns. It's not a good time to be a Hardy fan right now.

As for Wednesday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I don't see there being a big comeback in that kind of silliness in WWE or TNA. At least, I don't see many fans being crazy about that type of thing. I guess there's an audience for things like Obama's press conferences and Hornswoggle, but generally those segments aren't as prevalent as they were in the past, thank goodness. The whole point of wrestling is that people compete with each other. There are plenty of other places for that kind of segment on TV.

Nothing to add to #2. I had actually wondered that myself. As for 3? That's a big can of worms to open. I'd like to start by saying that there's really no objective way to say one company is better than the other. More successful? That can be measured. Better however is a matter of opinion. I generally prefer WWE to TNA, but the latter company has its moments.

4. I actually hadn't paid that much attention to that, but it's a good point. It certainly wouldn't hurt if they carried the titles more importantly.

After the break, I look at the differences in style between ROH and WWE, and cover all of the day's news.

Background on C.M. Punk's promo, WWE charity work with MDA, DDP talks, Stan Hansen autobiography coming this summer, more TNA Gut Checks, Questions on MITB, ECW in '95 vs. ROH in '11, trademarking gimmicks, Kelly winning the Divas' Title, and Kelly vs. Tessmacher, wrestling world reacts to Punk's promo, Koko B. Ware interview, Sammartino health update, latest on Punk angle, correction/update on Impact Wrestling going on the road, Raw's rating, more on the All Wheels Wrestling concept, and D'Angelo Dinero talks about his TNA status

Since everyone's talking about it, here's some background on C.M. Punk's promo from Raw (transcribed here), based on what I've gleaned over the years on the subjects:

I don't know how much of an "ass-kisser" any of the people he mentioned are. Obviously Hogan, Rock, and Cena have all been very successful in WWE and they all have some good leeway on what they can do based on that. I do know that Punk's not crazy about Hogan.

I have heard of there being friction with C.M. Punk over him being a "Paul Heyman guy". In other words, someone Heyman pushed for when the ECW relaunch started up. Punk got his start in WWE on that brand, and got to keep his name and character largely intact. WWE usually wants a name they came up with so they can trademark it. Kurt Angle, Hulk Hogan, etc. are free to use those names post-WWE on any merchandise they want, whereas say John Morrison or Kofi Kingston can't since they're "WWE names".

There's also the theory I've heard over the years that WWE doesn't like pushing people that they didn't "make", say a former WCW/ECW (or in Punk's case ROH) wrestler getting over of fame they had from performing elsewhere supposedly doesn't sit well with the WWE higher-ups. I don't know if that's true, but the theory's tossed around a lot.

After the break, I look at the rest of his promo, and everything else in the day's news (including the reactions to it).

NXT thoughts- 6/28/11

Titus O'Neil. Darren Young. Conor O'Brian. One of these men is going home after tonight while the other two will move on to the finals for a chance to return for Season 6. Who's staying and who's going? Find out tonight. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Questions on Matt Hardy, mistakes in the ring, Cena's moveset, Santino's future, and WWE voting, Impact Wrestling going on the road, JBL talks Eddie feud, Batista shoots down TNA option, Smackdown rating, Hardy court case to wrap up this week?, Regal gives sound advice, Bret Hart set for WWE house show , and what happened after Raw involving C.M. Punk

Monday's news begins with PWInsider.com's questions. Here's my take on them:
1. I can certainly see the similarities. I wonder what happens if he gets dropped from TNA since WWE almost certainly wouldn't welcome him back with open arms. A small note, since Matt will probably make it an issue, is that he wasn't begging people to send him stories out of the blue. Someone tweeted him about people asking for refunds and he asked his followers if there were any other stories like that. Those fans could have seen him there had he not been suspended! I don't know if he'll be released or anything anytime soon, as TNA apparently gives their talents more leeway than WWE did. I'm getting to where I wouldn't mind if the company cut both Hardy brothers personally.

2. Yeah, pretty much what they said. There's not much you can do in that kind of situation other than book a rematch.

3. It could be the same number of people complaining, just now that it's online it's a lot more visible. People like to complain. I guess it also stems from them seeing other wrestlers do more, varied moves and wish Cena did something similar. It's not just a wrestling thing by any stretch. "Why does every song by (popular mainstream artist) sound the same?" "Why do they keep making the same Mario/Zelda/Halo game over and over?" Because it sells. You're absolutely right, though.

I look at the rest of the day's answers and news after the break, starting with whether Santino Marella will ever hold another championship.

Raw thoughts- 6/27/11

Tonight Raw emanates from Las Vegas, and WWE's bringing back Raw Roulette for the occasion. Anything and everything can go down on the show tonight. Already announced for the card is a match we were supposed to get last week: Evan Bourne vs. Sin Cara in a clash of high-flying daredevils. Not to mention that tonight we see the WWE return of the one-and-only Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels! All this and more is upcoming. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Flair pays Highspots.com, Questions on Bryan/Sin Cara being misused, Zeke's torture rack, Colonel DeBeers, DH Smith/Husky Harris disappearing, and WWE changing stages, Stephanie and HHH profiled, Superstars to appear on HBK's new show, and Batista updates

Ric Flair has finally paid Highspots.com the $35,000 he owed them. He won't be going to jail. Thank goodness that's finally settled.

PWInsider.com has some Sunday questions to digest. Here are my thoughts on them:
1. This is what happens when you set your expectations high. I don't think we were ever going to see ROH's Bryan Danielson in WWE. They're not looking for someone who can do 60-minute matches with tons of impressive maneuvers. They're looking for someone who can work the "WWE style" that's more about selling and babyface comebacks and the like. They're not trying to sell to the ROH audience, just as ROH isn't trying to sell to the WWE audience. That being said, he's only 30 and been in WWE for fewer than 2 years. They're presumably keeping him in the midcard so he can gain a following there, then when the time is right and he's gotten over with the Little Jimmys/WWE Universe, they will possibly push him higher. But right now they're more focused on more "established" guys like Orton, Henry, Kane, and Christian being at the top of the card.

As for Sin Cara, it's a similar situation, just with "Mexico" instead of "ROH". I don't 100% blame Cara for not blowing us out of the water yet. Other than a few dark matches, he was pretty much just pushed into the WWE way of doing things instead of working in FCW and getting used to the American/WWE way of doing things. It's pretty different from lucha. The rings are bigger and the fans react to different things. As for keeping him in the midcard as well, it's similar to Bryan's case. He's not even 30; they figure that it'd be better to have him learn the ropes and such there before trying to push him as a top guy. Not to mention that without being able to cut a good promo/emote with the fans, I don't see him going very high anytime soon.

This has been done countless times over the years. It's rare that you'll see someone (who isn't a giant) pushed right into the main event before WWE tests the waters with them. Cena, despite debuting against Kurt Angle, stayed in the midcard for some time before moving up. Orton debuted against Hardcore Holly of all people, and Batista was D-Von Dudley (Brother Devon)'s bodyguard. Rey Mysterio started in the Cruiserweight division. So on and so forth.

After the break, I look at the rest of the day's answers and news, starting with Ezekiel Jackson changing his finisher.

Questions on why WWE doesn't do more women's matches, booking Rock vs. Cena, Ryder in his hometown, Johnny Curtis' promos, and Christy Hemme, TNA's Goldy Locks interviewed, Chavo Guerrero leaves WWE, Matt Hardy comments on missing TNA house shows, and JR gives more details on upcoming DVDs

Saturday brought new PWInsider.com questions. Here's my take on them:
1. They don't have enough Divas! They'd go through every matchup rather quickly that way. There are other talents they can probably make more money off of that they feature more.

2. Until I remembered it as Rock's hometown, I immediately said "Cena". I picture something like Rock vs. Hogan at WM18 where Rock got the better of Hogan and they shook hands afterward in one of the biggest moments (if not the single biggest) I remember in wrestling. But that wasn't in Hulk's hometown, so I guess things have to be a little different. Hmmm.... it should be a hell of a match, for sure. If Rock does win, it should be somewhat close and Cena should "earn his respect" anyway. If they put the WWE Title on the line (which I wouldn't do as booker), I think I'd pick Cena by an inch. It's a tough one, for sure.

3. It's not a mandatory role, but it's a heck of a gesture. Ryder's getting over pretty well for someone who's rarely on TV, and there are a good number of signs for him every week. I think he earned a spot on the show. I don't think he'll necessarily become a huge star in WWE, but I think he's earned props for how hard he's working.

4. Are you serious, bro? No, I definitely see some similarities. I bet there are people there who watch the show given how many people have plugged it on Twitter (Stone Cold and John Cena included). Curtis had some kind of out there promos/segments on NXT as well, so it could be coincidence I suppose. If Ryder has "WWE" or a cutout of Curtis putting his action figure in a copying machine, it would add more weight to that theory.

5. Maybe she's a fan of Triple H's promos from the Attitude Era? The Rock used to bust on him for the same thing. Yeah, I assume she's trying to accomplish what you mentioned. Some say other ring announcers do it, too.

All of the rest of the day's news is after the break.

Saturday, June 25, 2011

Three matches announced for Destination X, Melina explains video, Al Gore talks wrestling (seriously), Lawler interview, Jarrett covers winning the AAA title, TNA's business, his angles with the Angles, anti-bullying and more, Questions on refereeing, Angle vs. Jarrett, Sting vs. Steve Borden, and guest hosts, more on HBK/Hart DVD, captains for AWW teams revealed, Impact Wrestling rating, another Waltman Q&A, poll for a new Zack Ryder shirt, new WWE jobs, and WWE changes location of TLC

The following matches are officially set for Destination X:
AJ Styles vs. Daniels (Samoa Joe is expected to be added later as per the storyline)
Rob Van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn
Abyss vs. Brian Kendrick for the X-Division Championship.

That last one's a little weird, but it could work. It could also be changed between now and 7/10. Also on the show will be an Ultimate X match and a 4-way match for a TNA contract between Austin Aries, Zema Ion (who won on Impact Wrestling), and two opponents TBD.

Melina explained her recent video about Gail Kim. As I've noted, I like when storylines branch out into social media, as long as everyone understands it's part of the show.

Former Vice President Al Gore used wrestling metaphors to discuss climate change in a Rolling Stone article. It's pretty much just at the beginning of the article. I won't go into the non-wrestling stuff because that's not what this blog is about.

Jerry Lawler spoke on a number of topics in a multiple-part video interview with the Baltimore Sun.

Jeff Jarrett gave an interview to a NASCAR blog of all places. The author knew his wrestling, though, so it gave some insight into a number of TNA issues. Anything credible I've heard about TNA's profitability over the last few years has been consistent with what Jeff said.

After the break, I go into all of the day's PWInsider.com questions and the rest of Friday's news.

Smackdown thoughts- 6/24/11

Last Sunday at Capitol Punishment, Randy Orton retained his World Championship against Christian. However, Christian's foot was underneath the rope, so the pinfall shouldn't have counted. You can bet the master of the Killswitch will have something to say about the situation tonight. Also, Wade Barrett gets his rematch for the Intercontinental Championship with new champion Ezekiel Jackson. All this and more on Smackdown. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Melina posts anti-Gail video, Questions on why PPVs end early, the Sin Cara trademark, Warrior-Hogan, a Raw pre-show, and Moolah's title reigns, All Wheels Wrestling teams announced, Sting talks Hogan, Hardy, Russo, WWE and more, Bryan talks vegan lifestyle, CNN looks at collecting WWE figures, Sheamus interview, Alicia Fox profiled, WWE ratings in Mexico and Australia, more on Hepatitis C in wrestling, Lethal talks TNA and Black Machismo, special Impact Wrestling next week, WWE doing a Montreal Screwjob DVD with HBK and Hart, and TNA unable to get some UWF talents

Melina posted this video on YouTube to continue the feud she's having with Gail Kim on Superstars. The fact that she had to explain that it was in-character should tell you how much people (myself included) can misinterpret things sometimes. The internet seems to have made the problem worse.

On to my take on today's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I had wondered that myself. That's actually a pretty sound reason. Of course, the natural instinct for a number of people is to assume it's because the company is "ripping them off" or something.

2. Another thing I had wondered. Man, EMLL just had two of its biggest stars walk out this year to jump to WWE. That's not a good sign. Are they Mexico's WCW?

After the break, I look at the recent video by the Ultimate Warrior, and the rest of the day's answers and news.

Superstars and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 6/23/11

Today on Superstars, the WWE Tag Team Champions are in action when Michael McGillicutty and David Otunga take on Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov. Will the NXT alumni get the victory or will the more experienced duo prevail? Then, on Impact Wrestling, Mickie James faces Winter in a street fight. Also, Scott Steiner faces off with Bully Ray in a Bound For Glory Series match. And on top of all that, Eric Bischoff will cal out the icon Sting! Read on for my thoughts on the shows as they happen.

Questions on a WWE Sting DVD, ROH surpassing TNA, Fuji Vice, breaking up the Hart Dynasty, and good things in wrestling, Jarrett talks TNA Creative, Foley, and his angle with Kurt, Raw rating, interview on Memphis Wrestling and more, more from Tough Enough's Luke, Lethal interview, WWE stars on promotional tour in Asia, Kidd joins Twitter, big offer for Hogan and Warrior, and the Impact Wrestling replay rating

PWInsider.com has new questions up. Here are my thoughts on them:
1. They've actually thought of doing it a couple of times, but put the idea on the shelf (for now) when Sting signed back with TNA. Once he retires, it seems somewhat likely they'll do something on it. It wouldn't surprise me if he was a part of it, as he's had numerous negotiations with the company in the past. But as long as he's with the competition, I don't think they'll go that route.

2. I actually didn't even think of the possibility of Sinclair trying to get it on a station that they don't own, but I suppose that's possible. As of now, though, we don't know when and where the show will air. There's almost no way they'll overtake them if they're only in select markets. A lot of this depends on how you define "surpassing" TNA. To me that would mean making more overall revenue. Even if you just count the US, TNA has all sorts of video games and action figures and DVDs in national chains, which ROH doesn't to my knowledge. If they start pulling in big ratings on their networks, then we'll see if they can make it to the next level. Until then, don't get your hopes up. As for ROH alumni going back, it wouldn't surprise me given the frustration some of those stars have had in TNA.

3. This is what wrestling used to be like before the Attitude Era. WCW had its fair share of crazy vignettes as well, perhaps most famously involving an evil umm... little person named Cheetum. It was a different time for sure!

After the break I look at the rest of the day's answers and news.

Miz interview, Questions on whether Kane and Christian are top stars, Ed "The Strangler" Lewis, Mania in Denver, bullying in WWE, dream Diva match, and going off script in the Rumble, Punk talks WWE departure, Tough Enough also-rans talk, Wrestling Revolution update, Hall sentenced to jail, Hardy's "outside issues" get him suspended from TNA, technical difficulties for Raw voting, director of "Beyond The Mat" talks, WWE talents at Comic-Con, matches made for next week's Raw, and an indy promotion makes offer for NFL players to join wrestling

The Miz was featured on a morning show in Baltimore to promote the Raw taping Monday night.

New PWInsider.com questions are up. Here's my take on them:
1. Kane's in an interesting position in his career. Given his past success, credibility, and size, he can easily be built back up into a main eventer if they need him to be there, but it seems like they'd rather have him take more of a backseat to some of the newer, fresher faces. For fans who don't remember his top runs in years past, he probably doesn't seem as much of a big deal compared to those of us who've seen him for years and years. He's earned a nice spot on the show based on the credibility he does have, but I see him (along with Big Show and a few others) as part of the old guard that's best used to work with some of the up-and-comers. As for Christian, I'd definitely say he's around that top star status on Smackdown, but the waters are somewhat murky after his heel turn. It is weird that they don't have much merchandise of him (though he did just get a new t-shirt). I think to some degree they see him as part of that class of older (as far as TV time goes) guys, too.

2. I'm not good at rankings. Most wrestlers have so much variation from each other (even among similar styles) that I usually pass on those questions and just say "I like them all, just in different ways". I'd definitely put him in the Hall of Fame though.

3. I have no idea. I don't think I've ever heard it brought up as a possibility. As for the bullying thing, they were trying to make the Bella Twins look bad by saying those things. Because they're (playing) bad people. That's why. If anything, that brings the point home more. "See these bad people bullying her? How dare they?" As for when they do it to Vickie Guerrero, that's a different story. In their minds, it's ok for it to be done to a bad character. I'm not crazy about that decision, either.

After the break, I look at the rest of the day's answers and news, starting with who I'd pick for a 10-15 minute Diva match at WrestleMania if I could have any two Divas in their primes.

NXT thoughts- 6/21/11

We're in the home stretch, folks. Titus O'Neil, Darren Young, and Conor O'Brian continue their competition for a spot on NXT Season 6, where they'll compete with the next people to come up from FCW. Plus, someone from a much more popular online-only show stops by when Zack Ryder fist-bumps his way to Tuesday nights. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Questions on the legitimacy of Tough Enough, Sin Cara's transition to WWE, Goldust's WWE status, Punk becoming a trainer, and UFC doing wrestling, Matt Hardy talks, Usos profiled, Trish talks yoga, Waltman talks Warrior-Hogan, Kelly Kelly talks WWE 12, the latest on All Wheels Wrestling, WWE has statement for Simon's passing, "racist" moments in wrestling, Hogan interview, Tessmacher joins Twitter, Zack Ryder cameo in action figure ad, what if Paul Heyman booked Daniel Bryan in TNA, Smackdown rating, and the Raw dark match

PWInsider.com's questions start off today's news. Here's my take on them:
1. I'm not really sure what you're getting at here. There hasn't been anything to suggest that Tough Enough was anything but legitimate. The talents on the show (even those who were briefly in FCW) didn't have much experience in doing things "WWE style" and that's what the show focused on teaching them. It's not much unlike Dancing With The Stars in where someone might have danced somewhere for years but no in the style that they needed to on that show.

2. Well, for one thing, WWE rings are sized differently from what he's used to in Mexico, so that could be somewhat of an issue. And he's basically trying to work a mostly different style in front of a completely different audience, so it's going to take him time to adapt. I don't see WWE releasing him or anything any time soon. He's getting over pretty well despite his hiccups in the ring (which seem to be improving somewhat).

3. Last I read was that it will be some time before we see him in the ring again, but he does plan on coming back to the ring for what could be his last run.

After the break, I look at a suggestion on what to do with C.M. Punk and the other questions and news of the day.

Raw thoughts- 6/20/11

Another 3-hour Raw is on the table tonight, thanks to a decision by last week's General Manager Stone Cold Steve Austin USA Network. We've got a Power to the People (Viewers' Choice) theme tonight: What will the WWE Universe decide for the show? Plus, we get all the fall out from last night's Capitol Punishment, including R-Truth being unable to take the WWE Title from John Cena and Big Show being taken out once more by Alberto Del Rio. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Queries on David Hart Smith and wrestler piercings, Riley DUI charges dropped, more details on TNA's All Wheels Wrestling, Questions on Foley's status, Cena/Cole heat, the Raw GM, Savage in the Hall, and entrance music during run-ins, Batista update, Sheamus and Kelly do a good deed, Samoa Joe chats with TNA fans, Bound For Glory Series match at a house show, Chyna interview, Low Ki looks to trademark TNA name, former head of WWE Films passes away, and the dark match for Capitol Punishment

First up, some reader queries:
1. David Hart Smith is still with WWE, on the Raw brand. I don't really know anything beyond that, as I don't remember having read his name in quite some time! He might still work house shows with the company (a common tactic to get a lot of people on the show is to do a battle royal with the winner facing someone else later in the night), but as far as I know they're just simply not using him on Superstars or Raw. I've always liked his work; he can definitely fit in a U.S. or Tag Team title level feud and has potential to go higher than that. At 25, his best is almost certainly left to come.

2. Apparently there isn't a policy on wrestlers having piercings on during matches in WWE (or TNA for that matter). You'd think that'd be pretty dangerous, but they are trained professionals...

The DUI charges against Alex Riley have been dropped because there wasn't probable cause for the traffic stop. Hopefully he doesn't drink behind the wheel again regardless.

Here's the latest on the All Wheels Wrestling taping. As best as I can tell, it's going to be a separate entity from TNA/Impact Wrestling as far as talent and angles go, but that's not a sure thing. Former WWE star Aaron Aguilera (who played Carlito's bodyguard Jesus), Sonjay Dutt, and the recently released Jay Lethal have all been confirmed for the first taping. Maybe there's something to that last name being mentioned on TV after all?

After the break, I look at the rest of the day's news, starting with PWInsider.com's questions. The first one asks about Mick Foley possibly returning to WWE.

WWE Capitol Punishment thoughts- 6/19/11

Tonight in the nation's capital, we get 4 title matches and 3 grudge matches on WWE's June PPV extravaganza. Who will leave Washington, D.C. with their heads held high, and who will need to go back to campaigning after a crushing defeat? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

WWE Capitol Punishment preview

Because of the holiday, I'll be rather busy today, so I thought I'd go ahead and get this up to make sure it gets posted before the PPV starts. Tonight, John Cena defends the WWE championship against R-Truth and Randy Orton clashes with Christian once more for the World Heavyweight gold. Read on for how I'd book the show.

Orton passes concussion test, Questions on TNA vs. Impact Wrestling, Andy winning Tough Enough, undoing the Montreal Screwjob, Lance Hoyt, and new TNA talent, Vickie Guerrero interview, Fakih talks Tough Enough injuries, Del Rio challenges Cena for Summerslam, and Heyman discusses TNA

Randy Orton passes his Impact test, so he's clear to wrestle at Capitol Punishment.

As for my take on PWInsider.com's new questions:
1. You're not the only one confused. I've seen both names used in interviews with TNA talent and news sources and the like. Officially, it's still TNA, and that's what they're branding their titles and PPVs and the like as. But, they're pushing the Impact Wrestling name for a lot of things, too. Complicated, right? I don't know for sure if they're going to completely switch the name over or anything, but it's something I'll keep an eye on. The decision of whether to keep the TNA name is a tough call in some ways since there are people who think of the T&A acronym when they hear it. I think that might have been the idea when they first launched the product. I don't recall what other potential names were brought up, but Vince Russo pushed for that name and it stuck. He then led a stable in the company called Sports Entertainment Xtreme. Wacky guy.

2. My take was that it worked against him on the show, because Austin wanted to see if he would be able to handle life on the road with those potential distractions. Triple H cut a promo on the original Tough Enough about that subject underscoring how difficult it can be to balance work and home life.

After the break, I look at the rest of Saturday's questions and news. Up next, what if the Montreal Screwjob never happened?

Saturday, June 18, 2011

Questions on pushingTamina, Christy Hemme, Brian Kendrick's wife, the Angelina Love storyline, and Desmond Wolfe, DeMott talks autobiography, TNA releases Wolfe, Warrior has new video, Orton concussion update, Riley and R-Truth interviews, Shane McMahon talks leaving WWE, Nancy Benoit-Hustler case update, JR health update, Warrior posts Hogan videos, Impact Wrestling rating and an upcoming anti-Flair book

Here's my take on Friday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I haven't seen that much out of Tamina, as she's only had a few matches that I've seen. She could definitely stand out as a strong Diva, and one who doesn't fit the stereotypical smiling blond role. For the immediate future, since the Bella Twins have the title, I think it'd be better for her to keep using her to build up AJ and Kaitlyn. Once those two (hopefully) become accepted parts of the division, then I wouldn't mind her getting a chance at a bigger role. A feud between she and Natalya would work nicely I think. Two Divas with famous fathers- it's only natural they'd face off.

2. I'm still not really sold on her. I've heard worse (Eden Stiles), but I preferred Jeremy Borash and Dave Penzer. It's not a male/female thing as I liked Lilian Garcia; I just don't really care for Christy's voice.

3. What they said. I don't really see a reason to bring her in beyond who she's married to.

After the break, I look at the rest of the day's questions and news, starting with why TNA's continuing the storyline with Angelina Love.

Smackdown thoughts- 6/17/11

We're just 2 nights away from WWE Capitol Punishment, where Christian is scheduled to challenge Randy Orton for the World Heavyweight Championship. However, a concussion to the champion may have serious implications as to whether that match takes place. What will and won't be changed heading into Sunday's PPV? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

WWE renews deal with Eurovision, JR surgery update, TNA stars working with Puerto Rican promotion, Questions on Angelina Love, the Divas' division, TNA's 6-sided ring, and Layla's injury, DiBiase talks buying the title, Sheamus and Christian talk Smackdown in Hershey, new future wrestling book,Cena talks GLAAD controversy, final members of Bound For Glory Series, Riley talks Capitol Punishment, Hogan calls truce with Warrior, cover for new Orton DVD and ROH stars get a WWE tryoutalls truce,

WWE has signed a new deal with Eurovision to distribute its content (where else?) in Europe for an additional two years. The company will broadcast "This Week In WWE" (a recap of Raw, NXT, Superstars, and Smackdown) and "WWE Vintage Collection" (showcase of classic content) on the continent.

Jim Ross updated his post-surgery status on Twitter.

Carlos Colon's WWC promotion will feature Abyss, Mickie James, and Sarita for its big Anniversary show.

PWInsider.com has some more questions up. Here's my take on them:
1. Come to think of it, how's she going to "break out of it"? She's apparently been drugged/brainwashed to the point where she doesn't even need the pills to be under Winter's influence. I guess she could go to detox/rehab/psychological counseling for a while. That's my choice. When she does come back and speak, she'll be understandably ticked off at Winter. Unless, of course, we get a swerve and she's mad at whoever took her out of that situation. Either way, it should be interesting.

2. I really hope so. They've got some real talent there, both established and up-and-coming. I don't necessarily think we're in for a rebirth of the division, but if WWE plays their cards right, the Divas can be a real asset beyond their looks. I'd like to see Naomi get a shot in the division in due time as well.

I look at the rest of the day's questions and news after the break, starting with TNA bringing back the 6-sided ring full-time.

Superstars and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 6/16/11

On this week's edition of WWE Superstars, Tyson Kidd faces his biggest, reddest, machiniest challenge yet as he faces the former World Heavyweight Champion Kane. Will we see a massive upset or will the man of many managers be destroyed like so many past Kane opponents? Then, on Impact Wrestling, we see the new TNA Champion begin his second reign at the top. What direction will the company go in with an asshole on top? And what will be Sting's reaction to Bischoff's interference in Sunday's main event? Read on for my thoughts on the shows as they happen.

Query on the Hardy Boys returning to WWE, HBK interview, latest on Shane McMahon, former WCW commentator talks, Mysterio talks possible retirement, Orton concussed, Questions on music copyrights, Christian's push, facing Bischoff, Savage in the HoF, and R-Truth, more on All Wheels Wrestling, next 3 members of Bound For Glory series, Edge Sanctuary clip, another Waltman Q&A, former tag team champion returning to WWE, what's next for Tough Enough's Andy, and more from Hogan and Warrior

First things first: Someone wrote in and asked if the Hardy Boys would return to the WWE. I really doubt it. For now, both of them are signed with TNA and as far as I know are happy there. Jeff's past antics would likely work against him if he wanted to return, and I believe that if they did sign him back he'd still have the two "strikes" from the Wellness Policy. So, he'd be one failed drug test away from being fired. Not to mention that he was burned out from the schedule when he left last time, and with the added age and bumps since then, it would only be more brutal. As for Matt, he wasn't happy with how he was being used in the company, or the schedule for that matter. There were also some incidents near the end of his tenure that could affect any return. Never say never, of course, but it doesn't seem like either of them will be going back there any time soon.

Shawn Michaels continues life after retirement with an "outdoor living" show. He discusses what he's been up to here. WWE comes up near the end. Still nothing on a big return to the company.

A company helmed by Shane McMahon has inked a deal with Warner Bros. to distribute their movies on demand in China. He very briefly mentions leaving WWE in the link.

Ex-WCW color commentator Scott Hudson was interviewed recently. His thoughts on WCW are pretty interesting. Then again, pretty much any time someone talks about the chaos of the company first hand it's interesting.

After the break I go into all of the rest of the day's news, and the questions sent in to PWInsider.com. Next up, Rey Mysterio talks about his physical condition and if he could retire soon.

Another FCW release?, more on Nash's arrest, TNA announces "Bound for Glory series", Questions on WWE's September PPV, the Raw GM, wrestling terms, and the Hardy stun gun video, Hogan/Bischoff talk up Impact Wrestling taping, DiBiase interview, R-Truth talks Jimmys, Booker T hits Twitter, 2 TNA Gut Checks announced, Jericho and Ziggler react to no Ryder on Raw, Top 25 WWE managers, WWE names September PPV, final list of TNA names in AAA, Indian TV site interviews WWE exec, more WWE films confirmed, Hogan interview, JR has surgery, ex-WWE wrestler gets TNA tryout, and a former ECW name is backstage, Dreamer update, WWE and the Lantern Corps, more WWE on iTunes, Cena interview, and the Raw rating

It seems as though FCW wrestler Wes Brisco has been released, as his profile is no longer on their website. I've never seen him personally, but I had heard some good things on him. I wouldn't go solely on what I've read/heard of someone's ability, though.

TMZ has a followup story on Kevin Nash being arrested featuring his mugshot and Nash's side of the story. Kudos for not ignoring Nash's comment, as that's an important detail.

TNA has announced something called the "Bound for Glory series" that will be explained in further detail on Impact Wrestling. It will have 12 Superstars and will conclude (as you might imagine) at their October PPV. RVD, AJ Styles, and Gunner are the first 3 participants announced. I'm moderately interested in the idea, mostly because that only gives a vague idea as to what it is. I'm sure it's explained in the Impact Wrestling spoilers, but I like to wait until the shows air to comment on them.

Update: James Storm, Crimson, and Bully Ray have also been added.

PWInsider.com has more questions up. Here's my take on them:
1. With those additional details, it looks like they've kind of booked themselves in a corner. They either have 2 PPVs within 2 weeks of each other, or go 6 weeks without one. A somewhat ideal solution would be to move the PPV up a week (replacing that taping with whatever they had planned the previous Sunday), so it's 3 weeks between each, but that would mess up their taping schedule and possibly tick off a good number of people who would be able to make the original date but not one a week earlier. Not very good planning here. Hopefully they think things out better in the future. Not having PPVs 2 weeks apart should pretty much be a rule anyway.

NXT thoughts- 6/14/11

NXT Season 5 rolls on tonight. Four FCW competitors vie for the votes of the fans and their pros as the competition gets whittled down to 3. Who won't be coming back for next week's show? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Queries on Ric Flair winning the TNA Title and a return of ECW, Questions on Chris Harris, debut matches, TNA's signings post Bischoff/Hogan, and McMahon as a genius, Cena and Rock exchange jabs on Twitter, WWE releases former Nexus member, an ex-NXT contestant, and other FCW talents, Piper weighs in on Hogan/Warrior, Ryder talks YouTube show and more, Kelly and the Bellas promote Raw, TNA to keep Hardcore Justice, Smackdown rating, and the Raw dark match,

Someone asks the blog if Ric Flair will win a World Championship in TNA. I really doubt it. I mean, it's possible they'll do that idea, but Flair hasn't generally been put in main event matches lately.

Someone (else?) wants to know if ECW will return this year. This is another one I really, really doubt. The most recent run wasn't really a ratings success by the time it ended, so I don't see a TV network wanting to put it back on the air. WWE doesn't care much about the shows that aren't Raw or Smackdown (or Tough Enough), so they'll likely keep NXT and Superstars as they are unless they get canceled internationally, too.

PWInsider.com has some new questions up. Here's my take on them:
1. It seems like it. He's been persona non grata since his tag match, and he isn't listed on the roster of TNA's website, so it doesn't look like we'll be seeing him anytime soon.

2. What they said. Not everyone can get the Del Rio push; it takes time for fans to accept that someone's a legitimate threat. The idea is that the heel can go over someone rather dominantly (and show what they can do in the ring), but it doesn't damage the person they're facing as much. Not to mention that they're still kind of "testing the waters" with them: if someone comes in and gets a huge win, then for whatever reason management isn't happy with them and they get sent back to FCW, that sucks for everyone involved. Generally, people who debut low on the card are still training, so as they improve (and adjust to the WWE style), they get better opponents (Del Rio's good enough to start near the top). Sin Cara's going through this as well, and AJ and Kaitlyn haven't started at the top of the division either, so it's not just a heel thing.

As far as it building the drama, perhaps the most famous example is Goldberg's push in WCW. First he beat people relatively low on the card, and fans basically said "wow, he's pretty good, but can he beat someone higher up the card?". So they kept tuning in as he faced tougher and tougher competition to see how he can hang with them. It was one of WCW's defining moments to be sure.

Raw thoughts- 6/13/11

Hey now, you're an all-star: tonight we get 3 full hours of Raw featuring stars from all over the company. Stone Cold Steve Austin is the GM for the night, so anything can go down. It's less than a week from Capitol Punishment; who will have the advantage going into Sunday's big show? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Nash in altercation, WWE settles $5 million lawsuit, Questions on Jericho in ROH, FCW developing talent, WWE insulting commentators, Savage-Vince, and Matt-Edge, Ron Simmons interview, more plans on TNA spotlighting the X-Division next month, TNA/Slammiversary hype, JR to undergo surgery, Foley talks TNA departure, and an update on Tough Enough winner Andy

Kevin Nash was arrested recently following an altercation with someone outside of a bar. He was taken in on suspicion of battery, but the charges were dropped due to lack of evidence. Nash says that he never should have been arrested in the first place. It doesn't go into too much detail, but I can't really blame him. It might be different if he beat the guy with a pipe or something, but it looks like he was protecting himself and his wife.

Update: Nash commented on the arrest on Twitter. That certainly changes the situation!

WWE settled a lawsuit which stemmed from an injury allegedly sustained from a low-speed, low-impact collision with a vehicle operated by a WWE employee. That's a pretty big payday. I'd love to hear/read some opinions on this from people familiar with the law.

On to PWInsider.com's questions:
1. Nope. Well, they might attempt it, but it's a long shot. He hasn't said anything to suggest that he'd be willing to wrestle anywhere except for WWE.

After the break, I evaluate FCW as a training territory and get to the rest of the day's questions and news.

TNA Slammiversary thoughts- 6/12/11

Tonight, TNA celebrates being in business for 9 years with (what else?) a PPV. Tonight, Jeff Jarrett and Kurt Angle have their final battle for an Olympic gold medal and a future shot at the winner of the main event. Then, the man called Sting defends his World Championship against the cocky Mr. Anderson. What will TNA's main event picture look like after this show? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

TNA Slammiversary preview

Tonight we celebrate (or bemoan for some) the ninth anniversary of the founding of TNA. Yes, it's a week away from the actual anniversary, but maybe they didn't want to do a PPV on Father's Day? Anyway, read on for how I'd book the show. Note that this aren't necessarily in the order I'd put them on.

Averno-WWE update, TMZ picks up Hardy story, update on Scott Hall, Questions on Ziggler's "new look", TNA's championships, what's next for A-Ri, a Divas' Money In The Bank, more on All Wheels Wresting, A-Ri brand update, and a house show note

Lucha star Averno is doing a press tour in Mexico to reassure everyone that he's not leaving for WWE, goig as far as to have his father retract the statements affirming that. It's believed to just be smoke and mirrors to sell his mask vs. mask match later in the month.

TMZ has picked up the story regarding the Harys' tasing video.

Scott Hall is said to be doing "much, much better" recently. That's good to know.

PWInsider.com has some new questions. Here are my thoughts on them:
1. Props to whoever sent that question, because it's hilarious. I don't think I've seen anyone who liked the change in hairstyle. My guess is that it was designed to make him look more like a serious contender, but it took a lot from what makes him stand out. Someone at a restaurant confused him with Zack Ryder! Hopefully he gets it back like it was and we can put that look in a crate and send it off like they did with him in the Spirit Squad. Hard to believe this is the same guy who was World Heavyweight Champion earlier in the year.

The rest of the day's questions and news is after the break. First up, are TNA's Championships meaningless?

Another Sheffield surgery, Questions on WWE PPVs, TNA releasing Jay Lethal, and Sheffield's return, a new promotion/brand for TNA?, more from Savage's brother, Miz charity, more FCW wrestlers, new WWE merchandise deal, lenghty Angle interview, Del Rio talks WWE 12 and more, WWE stock update, Impact Wrestling rating, Warrior comments on lawsuit, new WWE trademark, Bill DeMott teases a comeback, Angle's Olympics go to be profiled by TNA, Crimson interview, and a Sammartino rumorbuster

Former Nexus member Skip Sheffield will undergo another surgery as part of his recovery from injury. I wish him the best in his recovery. He definitely has a look WWE can capitalize on, and at 29 he still theoretically has most of his career ahead of him.

Here's my take on today's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I had actually overlooked that. As of now, there isn't a WWE PPV in September! I don't think they'd go 6 weeks between Summerslam and Hell in A Cell, so presumably they're just deciding which PPV to put there and when. I seem to remember them trademarking "WWE Uprising", so that could be what they go with. As for an Old School vs. New School PPV, I'm not so sure that would be such a big hit. They'd be better served using that time to build new stars than bringing in the older guys. There's a reason most of them have retired. It's nice to use them here and there, but the PPVs should be saved for the people who are on the show most of the time (with the exceptions of big events like Mania, where they can have some non-regular performers make special appearances).

2. It feels like I'm usually arguing with someone and/or defending business decisions, but I agree with this one. I'd say 10-12 PPVs including Mania is plenty. WWE, however, is trying to get as much revenue as possible so they do more than that. Even a somewhat poorly-performing PPV makes them money. Obviously they're not going to go to one every week or anything, but for now it seems like 13 a year is what they're shooting for.

More answers and news after the break, starting with a question on Jay Lethal's release.

Smackdown thoughts- 6/10/11

Last week, Christian rented space in the mind of the World Heavyweight Champion when he clocked Randy Orton with the title belt. As Capitol Punishment looms, what else will transpire in the World Title picture? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Queries on WWE releases and sizes of wrestling rings, Miz at E3, Hardys address tasing, Questions on "tough heels", Hell in a Cell at Mania, females on Tough Enough, Punk in TNA, and Foley's contract, Chyna talks TNA and more, more Diva appearances, Road Warrior Animal talks about his standing with WWE, and interviews with Matt Morgan and Kurt Angle

Starting with some queries sent to the blog:
There haven't been any recent releases from WWE. If there are any, I'll be sure to report on them. There were rumors months back that there were going to be cuts, but they haven't occurred.

I think the rings for WWE and TNA are 20 feet by 20 feet, but I could be wrong.

Here's G4's video of The Miz at E3 with gameplay demo of WWE '12.

The Hardy Boys have released a video updating Jeff's status and addressing their recent videos. Matt focusing on his own career and family is great. Hopefully both of them stay out of trouble and healthy.

Here's my thoughts on PWInsider.com's questions:
1. It's not a bad idea at all. Sheamus and Mark Henry would be good candidates for the role. I can see Barrett doing it, but he'd need to be built up in that role (since he's currently of the cheat to win variety). C.M. Punk I'm a little more iffy on. I think he could pull it off; it's just the fact that he's already been in the other role for such a long time that it's a gamble. Daniel Bryan on the other hand I'm not so sure of. He's still somewhat being established as a WWE superstar who can cut the mustard (not too many fans are familiar with his ROH work as a badass). Not to mention that I don't see any reason to turn him heel when as a face he can work with Rhodes, DiBiase, Sheamus, and The Corre among others. The main problem is that theoretically they eventually run into the unstoppable juggernaut known as John Cena (and to a lesser extent Randy Orton) who they're not likely to come out on top of.

After the break, I look at the rest of the day's questions and news, starting with a pitch for HHH vs. Taker in a Hell in A Cell at Mania.

Superstars and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 6/9/11

Today on WWE.com's Superstars, Tyson Kidd continues his search for a manager as he takes on Yoshi Tatsu. Then, on Impact Wrestling, Hogan and Bischoff have full power again. How will this change things going into Slammiversary IX, where Sting has to defend his TNA Championship against Mr. Anderson? Read on for my thoughts on the shows as they happen.

Questions on WWE Superstars, Taker's final Mania match, legends opening wrestling schools, comparing ring announcers, and Japanese promotions in the US, Randy Savage memorial show, '90s wrestler interviewed, TMZ picks up Hogan-Warrior story, Road Dogg/BG James interview, Del Rio and Kelly Kelly talk WWE '12, Hogan to sue Warrior, more on WWE stock, new FCW signee, Hard Justice location, and updates on WWE stars on other shows

Today I start off with a look at PWInsider.com's questions:
1. And they wonder why the show got dropped from WGN. Actually, they might not have been surprised. Anyway, they'd rather talk up their business than promote a show that's basically dark matches with an announce team and a camera. It's kind of a self-defeating cycle: The show doesn't get good ratings, so they don't push it. They don't push it, so the show doesn't get good ratings. And so on and so forth. Not so different from NXT. They want to get both shows back on the air in the States, but their track records aren't very good. As for why they don't just drop the shows, they have contracts to air them internationally. And they're pretty cheap to make, all things considered (They're taped before Raw and Smackdown, all they have to do is change the ring aprons, ropes and lighting, and boom, the set's different). I would guess that there's not enough interest for them to put it on Netflix. It gets less than 20,000 views on YouTube (not sure how many it gets on the WWE website).

2. I have to concur with their answer. From a storyline standpoint, I think Triple H or Kane would be best for his last match there. I personally think his final match in WWE should be against Kane, with some sort of symbolic ending of the character with Paul Bearer involved. But, if he only gets one match, I think he should face Triple H again. He could still use Paul Bearer (who recently signed a 5-year Legends Deal with WWE, by the way) to play mindgames with the Deadman, and the match can take so much out of Taker that Bearer finally seals him away (or whatever supernatural ending they want to go with).

After the break, I look at why legends don't generally open wrestling schools, and the rest of the day's questions. Plus, all of the day's news.

Queries on Goldberg, the Raw GM, and Undertaker, Whereabouts of Tough Enough contestant, Miz rumorbuster, Questions on hooking new fans, British wrestlers as faces, Miz as a possible midcarder, and Punk returning to ROH, Batista co-running MMA facility, update on Impact Wrestling rating, Austin comments on the end of Tough Enough, coverage of Luke's loss, why Waltman supports RAINN, why Raw was replayed, more Bischoff online issues, Hardys play with tasers, Tough Enough and Raw ratings, Savage's cause of death, Hogan interview, and a preview from Warrior

To start of, here are answers to some assorted queries sent to this blog:
There's still no word on anything involving Goldberg in TNA, or WWE for that matter. If there's anything to be reported on this in the future, I'll be sure to talk about it when it comes up.

I don't know who the Raw GM is. I haven't read anything about plans for who it will be or anything. Any time I mention something about it during Raw, it's speculation, wishful thinking or both. Another thing I'll report on if there's anything to report on.

And last I read, there was speculation that Undertaker could be back for Summerslam, and he's generally expected to be back sometime before WrestleMania. Official dates and things of that matter are unknown.

The reason I haven't talked about these things recently is because there isn't anything new to say on the matter. No updates or anything.

Moving on, Tough Enough contestant Rima Fakih was unable to attend last night's Raw because of commitments as Miss USA. Specifically, she is in Las Vegas to transfer her crown to the winner of the next pageant.

Update: Here's a more detailed story on it.

There were false reports sent out that The Miz had been injured in a post-Raw dark match Monday night. That's not the case; he's fine. Situations like this are why I wait for better confirmation from other sources.

PWInsider.com's questions are up. Here are my thoughts on them:
1. I think you could make the argument that given their international expansions, they're getting a good amount of fans who are new to the product. I don't have enough international ratings (and house show attendance) notes to know exactly how many new fans they're drawing there, though. Not to mention that I don't know if there's any way to really judge numbers-wise who's new and who isn't. Though you can look at the number of children in attendance at domestic house shows who would be new fans by default. I know I give a lot of "inconclusive" answers here (or at least I feel that I do), but I don't know if there's a definite answer here. I would have to side with them not doing as well as in the past based on core business not being as high as when it was a cultural phenomenon.

After the break, I go into British wrestlers being heels, the ending to Cena and Miz's I Quit match, and the other questions sent in. Then I look at the rest of the day's news.

NXT thoughts- 6/7/11

And then there were 4. Tonight the remaining NXT rookies continue to compete for a spot on the next sason. Who will stand out of the pack? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Questions on WWE sharing their video library, using the name Chyna, JR, and Michael Cole, Bret Hart working house shows, UFC announcer talks about his past chance with WWE, Tough Enough's Jeremiah talks, more on Hogan, DeMott autobiography out, Sean Waltman Q&A, Chyna update, Foley interview, and Dreamer finishing up with TNA, WWE and TNA employees at indy show, JR responds to Lesnar, WWE stock news, new Smackdown wrestler in movie, and the Smackdown rating

Today's news starts off with the questions submitted to PWInsider.com. Here's my take on them:
1. I think that it's extremely unlikely to ever happen, and with good reason. Why would they want to benefit their competition like that? WWE wants customers to go to THEM to see things like that, not the other guys. That footage could be used on other WWE DVDs and their on-demand content, WWE Network, etc., be it a look back at Nitro or the Intercontinental Championship or whatever else suits their fancy.

2. She actually legally changed her name to Chyna. The former Ultimate Warrior did this too: he's now legally "Warrior". WWE can't trademark someone's legal name, so she's free to use it in any of her endeavors. Part of me wonders why more people don't do that to keep their gimmick names when they leave the company, but the other part always says "because who really wants to go around with the name Bubba Ray Dudley or Jimmy Wang Yang 24/7"?

3. I've already mentioned this one, but since they added to their answer: I actually remember the "unauthorized broadcast booth" part. He had his own personal "JR" announce table in front of the other one. The Attitude Era was really out there sometimes.

After the break, I speculate on Michael Cole's future, and get into the rest of the day's news.

Raw thoughts- 6/6/11

The conspiracy is over. Tonight R-Truth can finally earn himself a match for the WWE Championship against John Cena. There's just one little caveat: he has to apologize for his actions. Will he be able to do it? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Tough Enough thoughts- 6/6/11

The contestants have gone through everything the trainers have thrown at them, and it's finally down to 2. Andy and Luke have brought their "A" games, and tonight it'll pay off for one of them. After training in FCW, who's getting a WWE contract? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Sid in the Hall of Fame?, Scott Hall update, Questions on TNA in NYC, being in an angle, and Chyna, Foley responds to criticism, possible Hogan fiasco, and an ex-NXT wrestler working house shows

A reader of the blog wants to know if "Sycho" Sid Vicious will ever make it into the WWE Hall of Fame. It wouldn't surprised me if that happened down the line. As far as I know there's no heat between the two sides. I seem to remember there being loose talks of a comeback there years back, but nothing came of it.

Scott Hall returned to the ring on 6/4 for his first appearance since his hospital visit.

PWInsider.com as some new questions to analyze:

Nothing to add to #1, so I'll jump ahead:
2. I think it might have come up once or twice in the past and I think there were even rumors of moving Impact tapings there, but that was years ago. It's possible, but it'd have to make financial sense for them to do so.

3. Hardly anyone knows me, so that's never happened and I doubt it ever will. I think it would cross a line to a degree, as how could someone take my opinions on a promotion seriously if I was working for them? Not to mention that they would probably want me to talk up their promotion whether I fully supported them or not. So, that seems like it'd be a sticky situation. The fan in me would like it, but I think it could negatively affect my credibility.

4. It's actually her third adult movie, and I only know that because I was reading about her previously. And yes, if it's officially released (I'm not 100% sure if it has been, but as far as I know they still plan to do so), her chances with TNA are done. I enjoyed her work back in my early days of watching wrestling,  so it is pretty sad to see the road she's gone down. I don't know too much about her relationship with Triple H, so I can't really comment there. Long story short, I hope she can turn things around and get to a good place in her life without feeling the need to use drugs.

Nothing to add to 5 either, so let's move on:

After reports surfaced that some in TNA referred to him as "difficult to work with", Mick Foley took to Twitter to respond. One person's "trying to help the company grow" is another person's "complaining". If his suggestions were good advice and not taken, then this is somewhat on TNA, but if they weren't good ideas, I can see how they'd be upset. With their business as it is, it's not hard to see why people are suggesting changes.

I initially wasn't going to report on this, but since PWInsider.com brought it up I felt it was appropriate: A photo surfaced over the weekend allegedly from Hulk Hogan's Facebook where he took issue with a fan's negative sentiment towards WCW. However, Hogan denied that the post was his (alleging Photoshop), and it  wasn't on his Facebook when I checked earlier. So, there's really no way of knowing if it was legitimate or not, as there isn't a lot of evidence of the posting. Seeing as how it's unknown whether it actually occurred or not, I won't criticize Hogan for it.

Percy Watson once again worked this weekend's Raw house shows. There is still no word on if/when he'll be brought up to the main roster and where.

That's all for Sunday's news. I'll have more tomorrow.

Mickie James CMA Fest update, Bizarre happening at Smackdown taping, Foley done with TNA?, Questions on Sarita, an old Tough Enough finalist, Lacey Von Erich, and WWE's tributes to Randy Savage, Plenty of UWF news,Tough Enough III winner interview, Morrison update, Piper talks Green Lantern, and a long Angle interview

I'm starting to want to post "wrestlers doing non-wrestling things" stories less and less, but since I've already mentioned it before: Mickie James will make 5 appearances at the CMA Fest in Nashville. From now on, I'm going to try to only post things that connect to people's wrestling careers.

In one of the most absolutely bizarre things I've ever heard of occurring at a wrestling taping, Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn played a big joke on Mark Henry this past Tuesday. I had heard this during the week, but assumed it was made up because of the sheer ridiculousness of it! I'm at a loss for words to describe the situation. Those two have an odd sense of humor, for sure. It's amusing in one sense, but is that worth what they put him and the fans in attendance through?

Speaking of bizarre relationships, here's the latest on Mick Foley and TNA. Here's a little more to the story: Quite a number of fans wanted Foley to appear at WWE's birthday party for The Rock. Foley was under contract to TNA, and thus unable to go. Likely partially to do with that online buzz for him, TNA used him as the representative for The Network in their storylines. Fans didn't react nearly as strongly to that (they faced a similar conundrum with Sting's return this year), and as was mentioned there was already friction between the two sides, so this looks to be the end of their relationship.

Why they wouldn't utilize Foley is beyond me. They're paying him the same whether he shows up or not, so they might as well get the most out of him. He's a best-selling author who wrote a book about some of his time in the company. They had a DVD on him. He appeared at a major political rally. These things weren't very highly promoted. Not to mention that they completely glossed over his charity work, another thing that would give them a nice positive boost. One of your top names raises that much money for charity, and it's not even promoted on your show? You can't get much better press than that.

As expected, a lot of fans want him to go to WWE when his deal is finally done, possibly as the Anonymous Raw GM. TNA's loss (like WCW's before it) could once again be their gain. As far as the Network storyline goes, I'd take just about anyone to challenge their on-screen authority at this point. It's definitely time to change things up from Hogan and Bischoff running the show.

After the break, I go into PWInsider.com's questions and the rest of the day's news, starting with something on Sarita.

Saturday, June 4, 2011

Chyna-TNA update, Flair talks World Titles, Questions on JR's 1996 heel turn, Divas division idea, and Savage and Vince, Reid Flair and R-Truth interviews, Linda McMahon update, WWE teases Shaq vs. Big Show, WWE's Hall of Fame update, Ventura talks, update on Angle and the Olympics, Brock Lesnar Q&A, and the Impact Wrestling rating

According to TMZ (and reposted by credible sites), TNA will cease contract negotiations with Chyna if her new adult film is actually released. Apparently a number of pictures and clips are already out, but not the full thing. TNA's opinion on the matter isn't expected to affect the release. I think the sooner we can move on from that topic, the better! As far as a Chyna comeback, the angle with Karen seems wrapped up (since she fell down the stairs on Impact Wrestling last night), so I don't really see a reason to bring her back.

Here are snippets from an older interview with Ric Flair that were cut from the WWE Championship book. Always cool to see things like that that didn't make the final draft. Good insight as well.

PWInsider.com has some new questions, as always. Here's my take on them:
1. My guess as to why he didn't answer is because he didn't like the angle/thought it was a dumb idea. Not that many would disagree.

2. Absolutely. I think AJ could also be a good choice to face her in a similar role as Taylor Wilde or Gail Kim from her run as Awesome Kong. Naomi could have gotten a decent shot at her, too. But, the pregnancy changes all that. My hope is that they build the Divas up over her absence so everyone has a better chance against her, and more experience to have better matches with her as well.

Smackdown thoughts- 6/3/11

Last week Sheamus earned a match for the World Heavyweight Championship, and tonight he cashes in. Can the Pale Warrior win his first Big Gold Belt or will the reign of The Viper continue? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

UWF clothing deal, FCW student profiled, new member on WWE's board of directors, Kharma discusses JR, Bischoff fires back at online fans, Questions on Sin Cara's future, Draft moves, and the Intercontinental Championship, more on Hogan's wrestling game, SpikeTV press release snafu, and a WWE Hall of Famer on Tough Enough finale

The Urban Wrestling Federation has signed a merchandising deal. That's pretty cool.

Slam! has an article about an FCW trainee. I'm assuming he's part of their tryouts.

A new member of WWE's board of directors has been elected. She brings a phenomenal resume to the company.

Kharma clarified the situation she mentioned on Raw regarding Jim Ross. She makes good points.

Eric Bischoff made a much-talked about statement on Twitter. This one takes some explanation: He's referring to the fact that the segment he was in on last week's edition of Impact Wrestling (with Hogan, Foley, and the X-Division) was the highest rated on the show by a sizable margin, despite that segment and similar ones being heavily derided by some online fans (the 10% he mentioned). "IWC" means Internet Wrestling Community, which seems pretty self-explanatory but generally is used to refer to those who follow wrestling news and the like online (because obviously there are plenty of wrestling fans online, but only some follow it as closely as that). "Smark" is a term people use to describe themselves as smart to the inner workings of wrestling. As for who really matters? Whoever makes them the most money over the longest period of time. If they get 2.0 ratings for shows that the IWC despise, that's better than 0.5 ratings for shows that the IWC adores. Does that mean that their opinions don't matter? I wouldn't say so, but they don't matter as much as the people giving them a higher rating. If those groups were one in the same, it would indeed matter, but that doesn't seem to be entirely the case.

After the break, I look at the questions sent to PWInsider.com today, starting with one on whether Sin Cara is in any danger of being released.

Superstars and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 6/2/11

This week on Superstars, the WWE Tag Team Champions are in action as the New Nexus' McGillicutty and Otunga take on Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov. Then on Impact Wrestling, Mr. Anderson once more goes after Sting while the power struggle between Foley and Hogan continues. Read on for my thoughts on the shows as they happen!

Money In The Bank poster, more on "controversial" DVD, Questions on the Montreal Screwjob, PPV cards, interference for heels, SHIMMER vs. DGUSA and HHH's next opponent, Tough Enough's AJ talks, WWE at E3, JR in a piece about the NBA, more on TNA's fantasy game, Low Ki/Kaval interview, Lesnar update, Raw and Tough Enough ratings, WWE postpones 2 house shows, MVP talks Savage and more, more from Warrior, Punk contract update, A-Ri's brand, more on TNA's rebranding, and more on Averno-WWE

Here's the poster for Money In The Bank. Keep in mind that Morrison being on it doesn't necessarily mean he'll be in the actual match.

And here's the official press release for "Wrestling's Most Controversial Moment". Fantastic idea. I look forward to seeing it and the rest in the series.

PWInsider.com has some more questions to dissect:
1. It's a pretty unanimous opinion that the Montreal Screwjob was legitimate.

2. I think both companies can indeed do a better job of that. Maybe they think that adding some extra stuff at close to the last minute will sway people? I'm not sure. They definitely need to mention the PPV cards and stuff more.

Daffney and WWE, Wrestling's Most Controversial Moments DVD, Questions on Vader, Smoky Mountain Wrestling, Jack Swagger, Sin Cara, and WWE's production, DDP talks Savage and a comeback, correction on Impact Wrestling rating, Smackdown vs. Raw changed into new series, Nash talks about his role in WWE, Skidmarks talks, TNA fantasy league, WWE iTunes updates, Jeremiah interview, Diva on BET, NBC Universal higher-up mentions WWE, new rapper in the UWF, Smackdown rating, Hogan responds to Warrior and the heat on Brian Knobs, 3rd Jericho book, and details on the finale for Tough Enough

Someone asked about Daffney possibly going to WWE. I haven't heard anything to suggest that to be the case, but I'd certainly like for it to happen. I don't know if that would affect her TNA lawsuit in any way. If I see anything about the subject, I'll be sure to pass it on.

Here's a pretty cool idea for a DVD: Wrestling's Most Controversial Moments. That'd be a tough one. The Montreal Screwjob maybe?

Here's my take on today's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I really doubt we'll see another run from Vader. He could be in a match with or against his son at some point, but even that's up in the air. I say he has a pretty solid chance of going into the Hall of Fame, especially since they just did a big interview with him and signed his son to an FCW deal.

2. I wouldn't put that in the likely category. I could see some of those matches appearing on DVDs for the stars you mentioned, but a full-on SMW DVD seems pretty unlikely given how relatively unknown the company is.

3. My guess is that they wanted to keep Swagger a heel but separate him from Cole. He seems like such a natural heel that I think they'll keep him in that role for the foreseeable future.

4. You're right; they don't. I think as time goes on Sin Cara will adjust more to the WWE style like Rey Mysterio has (but still keeping a lot of his signature luchaness). Right now they're mainly trying to get over the stuff he can do before putting him in situations where he'd work more like other Superstars.

5. They can definitely add a lot of visual flair to their recap packages and the like. I think it's great because it really makes the things they promo mean more. Sometimes they show those packages a few too many times for my tastes, but they make things look important when they want to.
