Dynamite has added Nyla Rose vs. Big Swole. I expect Swole will feel the wrath of the now former champion.

WWE issued storyline updates:
- Jeff Hardy was released from jail Friday after passing sobriety tests, absolving him from the charges of public intoxication and driving under the influence.

- Elias was hospitalized with broken ribs and a torn pectoral muscle.

Rob Gronkowski is set for "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" Wednesday night.

WWE Shop now has neck gaiters along with their face masks.

Triple H spoke to TMZ Sports about Daniel Cormier, Conor McGregor, and Rob Gronkowski. It's very telling the buzz is on people who aren't currently in WWE.

Smackdown drew 2.15 million viewers this week, a decent boost from past weeks.

Vince McMahon will be the subject of an upcoming biography. "Ringmaster" is tentatively set for 2022. That sounds great!

WWE has begun reducing corporate salaries as part of their response to decreased revenue from COVID-19. This was outlined in a press release some time back.

WWE has officially banned the turnbuckle powerbomb. It's a pretty scary bump, for sure. We're seeing a lot of hard-hitting moves in wrestling in 2020.

The Undertaker spoke to ESPN about the Montreal Screwjob. That story has gotten a LOT of mileage.

Jon Moxley is working through a bruised tailbone. That sounds really painful.

Sasha Banks tributed Hana Kimura on Smackdown, while New Day tributed Shad Gaspard.

Montez Ford and Bianca Belair have launched a website.

Apollo Crews discussed coming to Raw. I'm glad he's getting things moving.

Drew McIntyre spoke about Paul Heyman's faith in him and more.

NWA Girl Powerrr discussed Hana Kimura and more.

Yesterday's PWInsider.com question was about the Vince McMahon biopic.

Tyson-AEW update, DAZN in dire straits, NJPW parent company paycuts, assorted wrestling press, WWE+AEW PPVs on French TV, AEW dark match cut, WWE commentary updates, more on Sane injury, Interviews with Undertaker/Jericho/Elias/Xavier, new MLW series, Impact talent returns, Honorclub expanding, Dark+Dynamite+FNSD previews, more on Flair-WWE deal, top WWE writer released, ROH contract angle, and Questions on WCW-NJPW and Giant Gonzalez

Mike Tyson's AEW involvement is leading to something more. The company is looking for more mainstream publicity from his use.

DAZN is looking for a sale, as well as deferring payments owed to various sports leagues.

Bushiroad executives are taking pay cuts in the months ahead as a result of the pandemic, and expenses are being cut in advertising and promotion. Notably no one has been released to offset the lost revenue.

ROH's Quinn McKay is in Maxim's poll for an upcoming cover girl.

Double or Nothing 2020 will air in France as a TV special Monday night. That bodes well for AEW's popularity there.

Caleb Konley (Suicide in Impact) worked an AEW match that didn't air on Dark as advertised. Notably Konley is part of the legal battle with FTR regarding the Revolt trademark.

Nigel McGuinness is missing TV due to being furloughed.

Kairi Sane's laceration is not being blamed on Nia Jax internally. I hope Kairi doesn't miss long.

Samoa Joe is set to be Raw's commentator going forward. He hasn't been cleared to return to the ring and it's unknown how that will change things, but he's factored in as part of the announce team.

Past WWE PPVs are airing on French TV as a way to fill time while COVID keeps live sports from airing.

Becky Lynch will be on CBS' "Game On" at some point.

Triple H and Drew McIntyre congratulated a child who raised funds for UK's NHS with a story about WrestleMania. Very cool to see.

The Undertaker discussed Hulk Hogan claiming an injury after Survivor Series 1991. Glad to see him opening up about his career.

MLW has launched a new digital series "Pulp Fusion," chronicling what talents are currently up to.

The North returned at Impact's most recent TV tapings. Tessa Blanchard did not work the shows. Honestly at this point I'd declare the tournament winner the interim world champion.

Honorclub is adding 50(!) archived matches on Fridays going forward. Great to see them invest in that service at a time when they're not running new shows.

Dark has announced:
- Billy Gunn vs. John Skyler
- Shawn Spears vs. Clutch Adams
- Natural Nightmares vs. Brandon Cutler vs. Peter Avalon
- The Butcher and The Blade vs. Jon Cruz and Joe Alonzo
- Santana and Ortiz vs. Big Game Leroy and EJ Lewis

Chris Jericho spoke to ESPN about the Mike Tyson angle:
- Jericho vs. Tyson is unquestionably the biggest move they can make. Jericho's set for life from a credibility perspective and is clearly AEW's biggest mainstream star.

- Certainly using other mainstream sports stars can boost AEW, too, as long as they don't focus on them at too much of an expense of their core names.

Ric Flair has sold WWE "The Man" trademarks he registered last year. This seems to be part of their new agreement but not the entirety of it.

Mick Foley has deactivated his Twitter account, announcing he is taking a break from social media.

Elias spoke before Smackdown.

Xavier Woods spoke to BBC about esports. He's been valuable inside and outside the ring.

The musician who produced Triple H's "The Game" theme song has passed away at 70.

The Major Wrestling Figure Podcast looked at the Hasbro WWF action figure line.

The former TNA Asylum has begun to be torn down to make way for a new soccer stadium.

Viking Raiders' Erik and Sarah Logan have launched a new YouTube channel.

FTR will sit down with Tony Schiavone on Dynamite this week. I'm glad to see them again.

Smackdown lead writer/producer Chris DeJoseph has been released. He had just received a promotion in the company earlier this week. Very strange timing.

ROH is running an angle of Danhausen trying to get signed, including a T-shirt whose popularity could impact whether he gets a deal.

Shad Gaspard was honored by graffiti.

Japan's Freedoms promotion will begin streaming weekly on IWTW beginning Tuesday.

Australia's EPW will reopen its wrestling school on June 6.

Philippine Wrestling Revolution is airing an iPPV Sunday. This was taped in 2019.

CWE ran its 11th anniversary show live on Facebook.

Ron Simmons was profiled in Florida.

Chris Bey has been added to RetroMania as DLC.

Smackdown has announced:
- Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross vs. Bayley and Sasha Banks for the Women's Tag Team Champion.
- The Miz and John Morrison warning Braun Strowman

Smackdown's June 12 episode will feature AJ Styles vs. Daniel Bryan to declare a new Intercontinental Champion.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
Nothing to add to 1.

2. There were some pretty screwy finishes in those days.

3. That sounds plausible. They also probably don't want to acknowledge NJPW in such a way.

4. It sounds like he had a pretty difficult time, health-wise. Pretty funny his contract was moved.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Takeover: In Your House has officially added Keith Lee vs. Johnny Gargano for the North American Championship.

NXT UK this week was a Hidden Gems episode featuring the following never-aired matches:
- Finn Balor vs. Kenny Williams
- Rhea Ripley vs. Nina Samuels
- Killian Dain vs. Travis Banks
- Matt Riddle and Street Profits vs. Grizzled Young Veterans and Joseph Conners

Alexa Bliss spoke to BT Sport about her injury history.

Curt Hawkins spoke to Chris Van Vliet about being released from WWE twice and more.

Headlocked Comics showed artwork from a Cryme Tyme "Tales From The Road" issue.

FS1's FCW documentary airing drew 206,000 viewers.

WWE Backstage drew 125,000 viewers this week.

Chris Jericho discussed Mike Tyson with Digital Spy. All Out would be an appropriately major stage for those two having a match.

"Dark Side of the Ring"'s soundtrack is releasing on vinyl soon.

Germany's wXw has returned to action with a ten-episode series "Shotgun 2020." This has been taped using talent residing in Germany and featured crowdfunding to make up for lost merchandise sales. These will release on Fridays. Good to see they can run again.

Rob Gronkowski began hosting CBS' "Game On!" this week. Ronda Rousey is on next week's episode.

Dynamite drew 827,000 viewers this week, a significant improvement from previous weeks. That's a positive sign.

NXT drew 731,000 viewers this week, which is also a very healthy jump. Glad to see both shows regain their audiences and hope that can continue.

WWE Shop has shirts honoring great past WWE matches.

All Japan Pro Wrestling is looking to run its 2020 Champion Carnival in September featuring only Japanese wrestlers. Hopefully that's a positive sign regarding coronavirus preparations.

Bray Wyatt and Jojo announced the birth of a second child, Hyrie Von Rotunda.

Daniel Bryan will be on WWE Backstage next week, reuniting in a sense with C.M. Punk.

NWA has trademarked Carnyland.

Aron Stevens remembered Shad Gaspard.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. WWE is going from a major grudge match with a big stipulation to a "regular match," rules-wise, so they're trying to justify that by hyping it up. WWE is also really looking to get buzz for the product right now, in a similar vein to the Lashley/Lana angle and Maria Kanellis' pregnancy and Rowan's spider.

2. They want Owen to be recognized in a high-profile way for all he gave to the wrestling business. They want him to be remembered and celebrated, and see Martha's actions as denying him his due spotlight.

3. Black Saturday and Collision in Korea are great ideas. Naturally the recent Hana Kimura tragedy would be appropriate for the show, but frankly it's almost certainly too soon to cover something like that.

4. I expect a lot of it is not having Ronda Rousey or the Bellas available to compete then. WWE was cutting back on live shows in general even pre-coronavirus, so that might be it, too.

Nothing to add to 5 or 6.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Thursday, May 28, 2020

Content updates, Interviews with Styles/Jericho/Ryder+Hawkins/Aichner/Becky/Hiroshi/DSOTR producer, assorted wrestling press, Jericho cruise returning, Raw audience, Impact schedule update, AEW+NXT matches, NXT split?, and Questions on Brodie's gimmick, Cornette's vitriol, MITB's future, DON's price, and WWE's live event future

Ric Flair and JTG will be on "The Bump" next week.

Shawn Michaels will be on "The Bump" before Takeover: In Your House.

AJ Styles is on "After The Bell."

C.M. Punk will be on WWE Backstage next week.

Ian Riccaboni is getting a limited-edition Micro Brawler to benefit a local LGBT community center.

Mandy Leon is on ROH's latest first match episode.

Chris Jericho has announced a cruise for February 1-5, 2021. Ted DiBiase, Jim Duggan, Bully Ray, and Candice Michelle are advertised in addition to AEW.

Chris Jericho spoke to Comicbook.com's Talking Shop about his WWE debut.

Talk is Jericho features the former Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins.

Fabian Aichner spoke to Metro in the UK.

Becky Lynch spoke to ESPNW about the Special Olympics.

Raw drew 1.74 million viewers Monday night, basically what they drew last week.

Impact will tape TV content in Tennessee shortly.

Hiroshi Tanahashi spoke to Sports Illustrated about NJPW not running shows.

"Dark Side of the Ring's" producer spoke to Sports Illustrated about season three goals.

Dynamite has announced:
-  Kenny Omega and Hangman Page vs. Kip Sabian and Jimmy Havoc for the AEW Tag Team Championship.
- Cody vs. Jungle Boy for the TNT Championship
- Chris Jericho in action

Fyter Fest will feature Best Friends challenging for the AEW Tag Team Championship.

Takeover: In Your House has added Adam Cole vs. Velveteen Dream for the NXT Championship. If Dream loses, he can't challenge for the remainder of Cole's title reign.

NXT has announced:
- Drake Maverick vs. El Hijo del Fantasma for the interim NXT Cruiserweight Championship.
- Candice LeRae vs. Mia Yim

Robert Stone was "fired" by Chelsea Green after NXT. We'll see what the future holds for both.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I do think it's an odd fit for Dark Order and ultimately not the best direction for him. I'd like to see him shift gears.

2. Cornette crossed the line of rational discourse a LONG time ago, but has enough supporters to keep doing what he does. It's unfortunate, but I don't see any way he stops. There's really no one left to fire him.

3. It has become a regular part of the PPV rotation, and I expect that to continue.

4. I can see why they would have reduced the price, but they held firm.

5. It's WAY too soon to know that. If WWE did drop live events it would of course mean fewer dates and bonuses for the wrestlers.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Wednesday, May 27, 2020

WWE taping update, WWE making change permanent?, more on NXT move, wrestling content updates, Interviews with Seth/HHH/Aiden/Charlotte/Cody/Baker, Takeover match official, WWE and wrestling trademarks, another Double Dark, Arnold supports Shad, Vince denies XFL stories, Stardom issues statement on Hana, Countdown audience, Raw injury, recent NXT name in Impact, and Questions on Kofi dropping from main event status, Cornette, AEW's teams, indies returning, and AEW vs. WWE in COVID PR

WWE taped this week's Raw, Smackdown, Main Event, and 205 Live Monday. They taped next week's episodes of the same shows Tuesday. The original plan was to do two Raws on Monday.

- NXT will tape up to Takeover:In Your House today.

WWE is considering making their plexiglass barriers permanent for TV and live events. I'm curious how that would change fan interest in having tickets close to the ring. Obviously it's safer for the talents, especially during the pandemic.

Matt Riddle is scheduled to move to Smackdown soon. He was initially planned to do so following WrestleMania. He could use a new environment and Smackdown could use a new talent in the mix.

WWE hosted episodes of Saturday Night Live will air on NBC Sports Network Thursday night:
- The Rock (3/25/15 and 5/20/17)
- John Cena (12/10/16)
- Ronda Rousey (1/23/16)

Shayna Baszler is getting a Best Of WWE Network special Thursday.

Seth Rollins spoke to Sports Illustrated before Raw:
- Seth vs. Edge is absolutely a big match that needs to happen.

- I love Seth working with some diamonds in the rough as it were. I'm all for fresh faces on Mondays and Fridays.

Triple H discussed Ronda Rousey on TMZ Sports. A return is in her hands and in her... womb, I guess?

Takeover: In Your House has added Finn Balor vs. Damian Priest. I wouldn't mind Priest also moving to Smackdown or Raw since he's 38 and unlikely to be NXT Champion. Raid NXT, dammit!

WWE has trademarked "Total Divas" for merchandise purposes. I was under the impression they were going to do that concept again before the pandemic hit, so maybe that will still happen.

WWE has trademarked "WCW" for merchandise purposes. Makes sense.

AEW Dark was again a "double" edition this week featuring unsigned talents, namely Serpentico, Brady Pierce, Faboo Andre, Tony Donati, Mr. Grim, Lee Johnson, KiLynn King, Alan Angels, and Shawn Dean. AEW is giving people opportunities, for sure.

Zack Ryder (Matt Cardona) has trademarked "Major Player." I like the nod to his earlier WWE gimmick.

Jordynne Grace has trademarked "The Hossette." That's pretty apropos.

Arnold Schwarzenegger paid tribute to Shad Gaspard. A lot of respect to him for doing so.

Aiden English spoke to Alicia Atout.

Vince McMahon is denying reports of looking to buy XFL. We'll see what's next for the league, if anything.

Charlotte Flair is on Stephanie McMahon's Women of Sports podcast.

Stephanie McMahon will be on Variety's "Rebooting the Entertainment Industry" series.

Raw has added Apollo Crews defending the United States Championship. Paul Heyman loves the "fighting babyface champion" trope.

Evolution 2018 will air on FS1 June 9.

Stardom released a statement regarding Hana Kimura's passing and the family's wishes for privacy during this painful time.

- Her passing was covered by CNN, which mentions the remainder of the season will be suspended.

Cody was interviewed on The Rich Eisen Show.

Double or Nothing's Countdown special drew 344,000 viewers. Not bad at all.

Kairi Sane's head was badly cut during a match taped for Raw. Doctors attended to her and she finished the match. It's been a rough time for her the past six months or so. I hope she doesn't miss much time.

Britt Baker is on AEW's latest Unrestricted podcast.

Deonna Purrazzo is joining Impact. She had a video on Tuesday's episode. Notably the NXT releases only had a 30-day no-compete clause. I'm ready for her to have a bigger stage than she did in WWE.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Smackdown would rather focus on others as top singles babyfaces, with New Day staying a top face team. Theoretically Kofi can get another opportunity as a top name, but there'd have to be a real push for it given how far he's slid.

2. Frankly the wrestling business should have left his opinions behind long ago. It's baffling and disheartening he still gets the attention he gets and the number of "second chances" he's gotten over the years.

3. Wait what?? Omega and Page were already on the same side and it's clear there's a story they wanted to tell with them. That's a far cry from the cliché of putting two people together because there aren't any other ideas for them. I do think they haven't done a great job with The Butcher and The Blade, though it's possible the team isn't being used due to COVID precautions. Perhaps if Dark comes to TV we'll see more teams spotlighted.

4. It could be too early for them to make that call.

5. I would think AEW looks good for those reasons. WWE is still projected to do very, very well financially with the TV deals.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Impact Wrestling Reax - 5/26/20

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Impact Wrestling.

Tuesday, May 26, 2020

Interviews with Becky/McIntyre/Rock/Henry/JTG/Meltzer/Snow, assorted wrestling press, Cage-AEW update, AEW injury update, MLW TV updates, ROH name re-signs, NXT name moving, Australian promotion reopens, Backlash match set, Gulak update, Raw announcements, Jarrett-Impact lawsuit update, and Questions on AEW on YouTube, AEW on Mondays hurting Raw, if WWE was private, AEW cycling through rivalries, and changing Rhea's finisher

Becky Lynch spoke to Sports Illustrated about relinquishing her championship and more. I'm not surprised Becky intends to stay part of the company, even if that doesn't mean we'll see her in the ring full-time again.

New Day's latest podcast features their gear designer.

Drew McIntyre discussed The Undertaker with BT Sport. I'd certainly be open to them having a singles match.

The Godfather and D'Lo Brown will be on VICE's "After Dark" this week to discuss Owen Hart.

Rusev has launched a YouTube channel. He's going by Miro now.

Brian Cage signed with AEW back in January but was recovering from injury and saved for Double or Nothing.

Matt Jackson has a broken rib. Sad to see.

UFC's Vitor Belfort was at Double or Nothing.

MLW Anthology's next episode will focus on Low Ki.

MLW is working on a new TV pilot. It's unknown what it will entail.

The Rock spoke to Access Hollywood about Simone Johnson's wrestling training.

Mark Henry spoke to ComicBook.com about a variety of subjects.

Flip Gordon has signed with ROH for a multi-year deal. He's actually still owed a World Championship match from February. I'm a bit surprised he stuck around, as I'd think he'd have other options that are running more prominently and regularly. But with Marty Scurll in a prominent backstage position, that bodes well for Flip continuing to establish himself.

JTG is on Lilian Garcia's latest podcast.

Matt Riddle is set to leave NXT for another brand soon. More on this tomorrow. That explains the direction things have taken recently. I'm glad we're seeing prominent stars shifted from that show; part of what made it "work" in the past was the roster staying fresh. I'm very curious how he makes it outside of the NXT environment.

Dave Meltzer discussed wrestling and MMA topics.

Australia's PCW is returning June 27 in front of a crowd of 50 people.

Al Snow discussed Shad Gaspard, whom he helped train.

Mick Foley discussed being trained by Susan Sexton and other women's wrestling topics.

Backlash has added Asuka vs. Nia Jax for the Raw Women's Championship.

Drew Gulak has signed a new WWE contract. He will remain on Smackdown. I'm very glad we're going to continue seeing him.

Jeff Jarrett will be on WWE Backstage tonight, discussing Bash at the Beach 2000.

Adam Cole's CZW work is being featured on a current PPV.

Raw has announced:
- Rey Mysterio's retirement ceremony, hosted by Seth Rollins.
- Seth Rollins vs. Aleister Black

Jeff Jarrett and Impact Wrestling's settlement talks in the Global Force lawsuit have broken down. The two sides are now set to go to court June 30. We'll see if this can finally be resolved in July.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Any unauthorized viewership of that content is piracy. I'm not going to endorse illegal activity, though I'm sympathetic to people not being able or willing to afford the shows at this time.

2. I'm sure there are some people currently watching Raw who would watch Dynamite if it was on at the same time. I'm under the impression there's nothing in the Raw deal that would penalize WWE financially for going below a certain audience level, though obviously neither party wants the audience to drop. AEW is committed to not running Mondays, for good reason.

3. It would very much still be the Vince McMahon show, and I'd think they'd still want to be kid friendly for sponsorships and such.

4. One of the biggest criticisms of WWE has been doing the same matches over and over, so AEW is wisely taking a different approach. They can and likely will go back to those feuds. And it does seem like Cody makes a lot of enemies in AEW!

5. It's worth considering, or at least not referring to the name for a month or so.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Raw Reax - 5/25/20

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Raw.

Monday, May 25, 2020

DON media scrum, Interviews with Smothers/Taker/HBK/Vampiro, MLW name signs long deal, released WWE names set for indie show, Dynamite segments, JTG remembers Shad, Bruno title recovered, and Questions on COVID testing, COVID taping changes, WWE fans vs. Martha, Russo returning, and The Bar reuniting

AEW had a media scrum after Double or Nothing, covered here:
-- Cody:
- It is pretty cool for a Rhodes to hold a Turner-based title.

- I'm very behind Lance Archer. He's grown a lot since the WWE and Impact days.

- And there's the mandatory shot at WWE. I am glad there's a shared vision between management and talent, though.

- Fans will absolutely remember the empty arena shows.

- The "old school" stuff is a nice contrast with other content on the show.

- Hahahahaha wow Ted Turner's mansion? That's insane.

- We'll see where things go with that title.

-- Moxley:
- Fun stuff about Cage and Taz.

- They did the best they could with Lee vs. Moxley's build.

- Moxley vs. Lee was a lot of fun.

- There are some interesting possibilities for the title.

- They're killing me with this "push MJF as a star" stuff.

- Having infrequent PPVs has absolutely worked for AEW.

-- Khan:
- Wow they jumped right to Moxley vs. Cage. Makes sense.

- I'm all for some bigger hosses coming in.

- That Stadium Stampede was a unique situation and they really delivered.

- The roster continues to deliver heavy.

- Glad Baker won't miss long.

- I swear. These comparisons to past big matches, other promotions, etc. need to stop. MJF vs. Jungle Boy was nice, but people are getting way carried away with the hype again.

- I also wondered where things were with Cage being injured.

- Cool to see they were ready for working in the UK.

- I'm all for the Taz-Cage pairing.

- Cage vs. Allin could be a lot of fun.

Tracy Smothers was on VOC Nation's "In The Room" podcast to discuss his health, Shad Gaspard, and more. Here are highlights:
- There were stories of Cryme Tyme having heat in WWE leading to them being released.

- Cornette and Heyman were two very different bookers and personalities. Both of them prefer to work alone.

The Undertaker spoke to the Toronto Sun about "The Last Ride.":
- It has definitely been good to see the character grow and change.

- I'm very curious what he does when his in-ring days are over.

Shawn Michaels spoke to ESPN about The Undertaker. That Saudi tag match was very rough!

Alexander Hammerstone has signed a long-term MLW deal. He could really be a big player there.

Primo and Epico are booked for Coastal Championship Wrestling's June 20 event. They can work untelevised shows during the no-compete period.

Mike Tyson will be on Dynamite this week. Surely someone will be knocked out this time?

Vampiro spoke about wrestling in Canada in November.

JTG posted about Shad Gaspard.

Bruno Sammartino's WWWF World Championship has been acquired by the International Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame. That's a perfect place for it!

The Inner Circle will have a "pep rally" on Dynamite.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I'm not sure what the logistics are for getting tested, but AEW and UFC have run venues in close proximity to testing locations. To the best of my knowledge the WWE Performance Center isn't. That's the difference.

2. WWE under Vince is very committed to a certain look and feel, even at a time like this.

3. I think fans understand but don't agree, accusing Martha of trying to erase Owen's wrestling career.

4. Let's see. Under Paul Heyman's regime we've had:
- "shoot" promos with Beth Phoenix, Ronda Rousey, AJ Styles, and The Undertaker.

- a wedding with multiple interruptions from past lovers

- a pregnancy angle briefly with the Kanellises

- Brock Lesnar enter the Royal Rumble while WWE Champion

- a number of factions with regularly shifting membership

- gimmick matches including a Boneyard and Corporate Ladder Match

All of those would seem like "Russo-esque" ideas but their booker doesn't get the criticism Russo would get for executing them. For the record I don't want to see Russo back in WWE. It's time for new writers to make their marks.

5. Both men are focused on other things right now. Their paths haven't crossed, but they might at some point.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Stardom's Hana Kimura passes away at 22

Hana Kimura made a series of Internet posts featuring self-harm and words of farewell late May 22 following receiving many negative social media messages from viewers of "Terrace House," a Japanese reality show she was guest starring on. She was involved in a number of incidents on the show that sparked an intense negative reaction from netizens, with the most prominent being a physical altercation with a castmember who washed her WrestleKingdom ringwear, causing it to shrink. Kimura slapped this castmember. Kimura posted that she couldn't take the daily negative attacks online, of which there were hundreds.

Hana's postings caused STARDOM staff to rush to her, and early May 23 they confirmed the second-generation star had passed.

STARDOM was positioning Hana to be one of their centerpiece stars in the Bushiroad era. She was one of four women featured in the WrestleKingdom dark match and had also appeared for ROH, where she was in a dark match at G1 Supercard in Madison Square Garden. Hana had built a cult following for herself online due to her charisma and style.

PWInsider.com ran down her life and career.

The Wrestling Observer ran down her life and career.

ROH uploaded her G1 Supercard match.

PWInsider fielded a question about Hana's passing. I, like the questioner and many others online, was hit pretty hard by the news. She was a lot of fun to watch, with her charisma and her constantly evolving look. Her qualities really stood out from the crowd and I was rooting for her to land a bigger U.S. opportunity so more could see what made her special. It's very, very sad to see that won't be happening.

The following details were released May 29. Be advised sensitive topics will be discussed:
- Hana had suffered from serious depression for some time before her passing, including other self-harm.

- Hana had suffered bullying previously for her mixed ethnicity and muscular features.

- Hana had at one point disabled Instagram comments due to negative responses from "Terrace House" fans.

- Hana's passing was from ingesting hydrogen sulfide and asphyxiation.

- A number of suicide notes were left.

- Stardom is looking at taking legal action against malicious cyberbullying.

- Stardom is pausing plans to tape further empty venue events.

More wrestling coming up.

Interviews with HHH/Sonya/Ric/Brodie/Archer, more Shad notes, Sting Network special coming, NXT announcements, Revolt trademark update, Edge trademark dropped, AEW hype, FTR sued by WWE, released WWE name looking at MMA, indie joins Patreon, All Out set, Baker injury update, and Questions on WWE touring again, Khan on TV, and Sunny taking bookings

Triple H discussed the People's Elbow's being invented to make The Undertaker laugh. WWE is missing that fun, spontaneous element a lot of times now.

Shad Gaspard had a memorial, with JTG attending. It's increasingly clear the world lost a selfless human being.

- A significant number of people in the business donated to the GoFundMe drive to assist his family, both publicly and privately. The drive passed its $100,000 goal due to donations big and small.

- ProWrestlingTees has created a T-shirt to benefit his family.

Sting will get a WWE Network special May 31. "Sting: The Lost Tape" is centered around Slamboree 1995.

Sonya Deville spoke to Newsweek about her current angle and more. Sonya and Mandy have definitely formed a bond.

NXT has added:
- Charlotte Flair and a partner of her choosing vs. Io Shirai and Rhea Ripley. WWE is really becoming the Charlotte Show!
- Kurt Angle refereeing Matt Riddle vs. Timothy Thatcher. That's huge! Angle's still under WWE contract until his no-compete clause expires.

NC independent team The Revolt have applied for that trademark.

WWE has abandoned their "Rated R Superstar" trademark. A little surprised to see that, as they're still using the R symbol to promote him.

Ric Flair spoke about his new WWE contract. Tony Khan seems like a class act.

Brodie Lee spoke before Double or Nothing:
- Another positive Tony Khan story.

- I am glad to see something fresh from him.

- I think Dark Order has benefited from moving away from its initial concept and members.

- I'm skeptical about AEW adding Rowan. Maybe for an angle against Brodie, but I don't see him being a long-term investment there.

- Moxley vs. Brodie was a blast.

AEW promoted Cody vs. Lance Archer with videos from Alison Brie, Stephen Amell, NBA star Dominique Williams, "Billions" producer Dan Soder, "Billions" star Kelly AuCoin, comedian Jack Whitehead, comedian Brad Williams, actor Paul Walter Hauser, and "Imagine Dragons" member Daniel Platzman. Very cool. Great job making the match meaningful.

WWE has served FTR with cease and desist paperwork for using the artwork for the costumes WWE proposed they use as The Revival.

Sarah Logan is training for MMA. Interesting!

Lance Archer is on the latest Talk is Jericho.

Game Changer Wrestling is now on Patreon.

All Out 2020 has been announced for September 5. Currently there is no market announced.

Britt Baker will address her injuries on Dynamite. She has a partial LCL tear, an interior tibia fracture, and a small tendon tear. I hope she doesn't miss long, and that we get a great promo about how our role model will persevere.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. It's not a decision they're going to make lightly, and I could see them starting with just TV tapings and PPVs. There's nothing to indicate they're even in the planning stages of running in front of crowds again, but I'm sure Vince McMahon is eager to do so when he's able to do so.

Nothing to add to 2.

3. Frankly I give him credit for not doing so before now! It doesn't look like he intends to do so anytime soon, which goes against the reputation people (myself at times included) had/have for him as a superfan who wanted to be in the spotlight.

4 was just for them, and very insightful.

I will address 5 in the next post.

I don't have much to add to 6. If promoters want to give her a chance and fans want to see her, it's something to pursue.

More wrestling coming up.

Double or Nothing Reax

Read on for my thoughts on last night's AEW PPV.

TripleMania is in question after being initially scheduled for August 22. AAA isn't planning any events at all right now.

wXw performer Francis Kaspin has announced his retirement.

MLW is expected to announce a major streaming deal soon. That can certainly be a big positive for them. Court Bauer has worked incredibly hard to make that company what it is now.

- NWA:TNA PPVs on June 2
- early X-Division matches on June 9
- World Title matches on June 16
- Aces & Eights on June 23
- Mick Foley on June 30

Double or Nothing will be available in Spanish, French, and German.

Drew Gulak hired an agent for his WWE contract negotiations and asked for a raise. It's possible the two sides come to an agreement, but right now he remains a free agent.

The Bella Twins' memoir had to go through WWE and John Cena for editorial approval. That's going to water it down a bit. Hopefully at some point they can say what they weren't allowed to say here.

Smash of Demolition spoke to VOC Nation's Wrestling With History about working with the Road Warriors and more. Here are highlights. I believe WWE is against honoring the group because they were part of a lawsuit against the company at one point.

ROH Strong will next feature Dalton Castle and Joe Hendry.

Mandy Leon has relaunched her YouTube channel.

Raw is advertising:
- Drew McIntyre in the VIP Lounge
- Charlotte Flair vs. Nia Jax vs. Natalya in a number one contenders' match for the Raw Women's Championship. They're really starting to overexpose Charlotte.

- WrestleMania 31's "WWE 24" episode
- WrestleMania 31 in a three-hour format

Newsweek covered COVID-19's effects on wrestling, from WWE to indies.

Backlash has added Braun Strowman vs. The Miz and John Morrison for the Universal Championship.

Britt Baker has been pulled from Double or Nothing due to a knee injury. The extent of it is not known at this point. Penelope Ford will take on Kris Statlander in her place.

AJ Styles has been "traded" to Smackdown for superstar(s) to be determined. I'm fine with him getting a new beginning after the Undertaker loss. We'll see who ends up moving to Raw in his place.

Rey Fenix has been pulled from Double or Nothing due to an unspecified injury that's believed to be minor. Joey Janela is replacing him in the Casino Ladder Match. It's unfortunate his return was cut short.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Interviews with Xavier/Undertaker+McCool/McIntyre, assorted wrestling press, NXT segment, Cody conference call, HOFer signs new deal, and AEW+NXT viewership

Xavier Woods spoke to Esquire Middle East.

"Rockquiem For A Wrestler" has moved its live stream to June 27.

The Undertaker and Michelle McCool are on the latest Busted Open Radio.

Drew McIntyre spoke to SportsNet about his journey to the WWE Championship.

NXT has added a "live negotiation" between Adam Cole and William Regal.

Cody did a conference call to promote Double or Nothing. Here are highlights. So they're debuting a new title and they don't know how it's going to work? WWE would be dragged through the coals if they did that. I've enjoyed the build to the championship match, but that's not a good sign. Him having not seen a championship that's going to debut on a major show is also not a good sign for an executive in his position and, again, something WWE would be attacked for.

Ric Flair has signed a new WWE deal. It's unknown exactly what this entails.

Dynamite drew 701,000 viewers this week, an improvement from last week.

NXT drew 592,000 viewers this week, very close to last week.

Nikita Koloff was on Highspots.com's "live gimmick table."

As for yesterday's PWInsider.com question, they did a very thorough response. I don't have anything to add.

Thursday, May 21, 2020

WWE injury update, Vince saving XFL?, assorted wrestling press, Interviews with Bischoff/Bellas/Rhea/Taker/Brodie/JR/Seth/Martha, Network content updates, Impact getting compilation series, Titus up for award, wrestling trademarks, DSOTR audience, WWE FS1 audiences, Japan retirement, AEW+NXT matches, and Questions on performing with no crowd, talent returning as the same characters, and WWE being sold

Ember Moon indicated her current injury could end her career. She hasn't wrestled since September and there's no timetable for her to return to the ring. It would suck if things ended like this.

Vince McMahon is believed to be looking to purchase the XFL, as there is a move to refund ticket purchases as part of bankruptcy proceedings. XFL's president is looking to reinstate the league's leases at two venues. Very WWE storyline esque!

Roman Reigns did local press regarding COVID-19 risks.

Eric Bischoff appeared on TMZ Sports to discuss Dennis Rodman and Karl Malone's WCW involvement. I can't help but wish AEW would do its own TNT/TBS crossovers, but they're not looking to go in that direction.

The Bella Twins are on Maria Menounos' latest podcast.

The Miz appeared with PGA 2K21 cover star Justin Thomas.

Rush has trademarked "La Faccion Ingobernable," the name of his ROH faction.

Rocky Romero has trademarked that name was well as Chico El Luchador.

"The Bump" will have a special edition before Takeover: In Your House.

Ric Flair will have a WWE 24 special after Takeover: In Your House. It's called "The Final Farewell" so I assume it follows him at WrestleMania 24.

Matt Riddle will be on the next edition of "The Bump."

Rhea Ripley spoke to PWInsider before NXT. It sounds like the visa situation is still in play.

Impact is getting a compilation series on AXS to follow the main show. "Impact in 60" will feature full matches from the company's library in a one hour spot beginning June 2.

Titus O'Neil is a finalist for ESPN's Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award. He's been a great representative for WWE.

WWE has trademarked "Def Rebel." It's unknown who this will be used for.

The Undertaker discussed WrestleMania 30 on Pardon My Take.

- Undertaker is also on Bill Simmons' podcast.

Brodie Lee promoted Double or Nothing with Sports Illustrated:
- That was a GREAT line about not being able to blame others if this push doesn't work out.

- There were very clear Vince allusions, which is weird since previously the order had been more "spooky."

- Brodie is absolutely a good worker.

- It is pretty cool to see his career continuing to intertwine with Moxley's.

Jim Ross discussed Owen Hart and more with ESPN.

Dark Side of the Ring drew 349,000 viewers for their Owen Hart episode. I would have liked to have seen that be another two-part episode, with the second half dealing more with the battles that followed Owen's accident.

ROH has begun a YouTube series focusing on talent's ROH debuts, with the first episode focusing on Matt Taven. Smart to keep using their library during the pandemic.

FS1's WWE specials drew 214,000 for the first episode and 177,000 for the second episode.

Seth Rollins is on "After The Bell."

Stardom's Arisa Hoshiki has retired due to head and neck injuries. Her Wonder of Stardom Championship has been returned to the company. It's sad to see her career end.

Martha Hart responded to WWE attorney Jerry McDevitt in The Daily Beast.

Mickie James, Victoria, and So Cal Val have launched a YouTube series called "Grown Ass Women."

Michinoku Pro is returning on May 23.

Masked Republic has launched the Lucha Central Podcast Network.

Double or Nothing has added Shawn Spears vs. Dustin Rhodes.

Takeover: In Your House has added:
- Tommaso Ciampa vs. Karrion Kross
- Finn Balor vs. Damian Priest

Dynamite will feature a TNT Championship number one contendership battle royal. The winner will face the champion on June 3. Good to see them jumping right to establishing the title.

NXT has announced:
- Matt Riddle vs. Timothy Thatcher in a cage fight with no pinfalls.
- Kushida vs. Jake Atlas vs. Drake Maverick in the interim cruiserweight championship Block A Finals tie-breaker.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I don't expect any experienced professionals to have any hesitation because the crowd isn't there. I'm sure they feel the effects more, though.

2 is a repeat.

3. Talent can make suggestions, but ultimately any tweaks have to be approved. Presumably those in power feel the characters and looks were fine as they were and kept things going more or less. Generally when a performer does something that works, they keep doing things in that line. That's why so many actors end up in similar roles repeatedly.

4.a. There's nothing to indicate any sale talks at this time. I really, really don't see anyone planning that big of a purchase during a pandemic.

4.b. I don't see any way Vince sells his company without continuing to be part of it.

Nothing to add to 5.

More wrestling tomorrow.

More wrestling coming up.

NXT Reax - 5/20/20

Read on for my thoughts on last night's NXT.

Wednesday, May 20, 2020

Reigns doing media for WWE, Backlash matches official, Owen book coming, Maverick documentary, assorted wrestling press, Raw audience, new Dynamite match, Interviews with Lashley/Taynara, CZW responds to PPV title criticism, CZW being sued?, AEW rankings note, NWA star a free agent, Impact matches for next week, WWE looking for executive, and Questions on Sami being stripped, Becky's pregnancy, Drake's status, and Austin vs. Hogan at WMX8

Roman Reigns is doing media for WWE to support the Leukemia Society. It's naïve to think that will stop the "WWE is erasing Roman" story, but one can hope.

Backlash has officially added:
- Edge vs. Randy Orton
- Drew McIntyre vs. Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship

Owen Hart is being remembered with a book chronicling his best pranks. Well that's certainly one fitting tribute for him!

Drake Maverick got a WWE documentary before what could be his final NXT appearance.

The Undertaker has a "Last Ride" T-shirt.

Raw drew 1.76 million viewers this week, a drop from last week. I don't know what the panic button is after the brand invitational, but we could see it hit soon.

Dynamite has added Nyla Rose and Britt Baker vs. Hikaru Shida and Kris Statlander. That's a natural way to build to Double or Nothing.

Bobby Lashley discussed facing Brock Lesnar and more:
- Obviously the Lana angle got WWE attention, but man am I glad he's being presented as a top contender again.

- Brock vs. Lashley could be fun, and I hope it happens at some point. Even if it's in Saudi Arabia without much build.

- I can't say I remember speculation of Lashley teaming with Braun.

- I don't think it's time for Lashley to be putting others over left and right yet. He can still be an important name.

The Undertaker responded to a fan being upset at his political shirts on "The Last Ride."

Paige is on "Fridge Tours." This is really a thing people can watch.

CZW responded to fans upset at racy titles for shows their footage appears on.

- Jordynne Grace indicated wrestlers are gathering lawyers to sue for breach of contract over this footage being used.

- Kimber Lee echoed Grace's statement and relayed a controversial comment allegedly thrown her way. CZW could be getting the wrong kind of heat pretty soon.

Tony Khan clarified how rankings will work once the TNT Championship is added. Interesting. I suppose that makes more sense than having two different sets of rankings for the TNT and World titles.

NWA's Ricky Starks is no longer under contract. So, he's free to appear elsewhere.

Taynara Conti discussed her WWE release and more.

PROGRESS is streaming 2019's Super Strong Style 16 on YouTube this weekend.

NFL's JJ Watt appeared on "The Bump."

The Blue Meanie has joined MLW Radio Network with a new podcast. Pretty wild a Beatles gimmick is still a thing in 2020.

Otis, Lacey Evans, and Tucker have their first WWE action figures released.

Impact has announced:
- Michael Elgin vs. Trey Miguel in the World Championship contendership tournament
- Hernandez vs. Ace Austin in the World Championship contendership tournament
- The North vs. Cody Deaner and "Wheels"
- Havok vs. Kimber Lee

Impact released Bobby Lashley vs. MVP from 2015 on YouTube. Funny!

WWE is hiring a director of sales.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Basically WWE wanted an Intercontinental Champion who'd be on TV. It's unknown when we'll see Sami again.

2. I would think she'd tell the head of talent relations or someone working in his office. Neither Triple H nor Stephanie McMahon are in that department now.

3. I'm sure some are upset at him, but it's not really something he's going to be punished for.

4. Basically the decisions on which talents to cut were made by people higher up in the company than the people booking cruiserweights and he was allowed to finish what he's been announced for. While WWE can change their minds, I really don't see those that high up changing their minds about a cruiserweight's value.

5. I think the match would have had a different feel, for sure, likely being more of a brawl. What we got was a great spectacle.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Larry Csonka passes away

Prolific 411Mania wrestling reviewer Larry Csonka has passed away. I never had a chance to meet him or speak with him at length but without question his work has influenced mine to a not insignificant degree. I regularly read his pieces and was one of many who benefited from his great body of work. I don't think he can be replaced, but I do think he can be tributed. Thank you, Larry, for the many years of content.

411mania ran a piece of writers offering condolences and memories.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Wrestling on Last Week Tonight, Bucks memoir pushed back, assorted wrestling press, Interviews with Kendrick/Melina/Martha/Bellas, Network content updates, WWE alum goes missing, MLW name signs new deal, WWE trademarks, casino match addition, WWE exec leaves, Impact tournament change, indie shuts down, Andre profiled, Owen merchandise, Raw title match set, and Questions on WWE not promoting talent appearances, brand crossover boosting ratings, freezing Becky's contract, pandemic MVPs, and WWE names on PWTees

WWE and AEW were covered on Last Week Tonight for their COVID-19 responses.

The Young Bucks' memoir has been moved back to November 17. It's unknown why there's a two month delay, though I wouldn't shock me if COVID-19 was a factor.

MLW Anthology will next focus on Mance Warner.

Paul Heyman posted a vintage photo with Michael Jordan. Wow!

The Brian Kendrick is on New Day's latest podcast.

Melina is on Lilian Garcia's latest podcast.

WWE Confidential episodes added to WWE Network span from August 2003 through April 2004.

Shad Gaspard went missing Sunday during a strong rip tide. His young son was rescued by lifeguards at Gaspard's request. A search was undertaken but ultimately called off. He really showed selflessness in that moment and I hope he does resurface. That's a tragic situation for that family.

- Author Joel Eisenberg wrote a long piece on Gaspard.

- MVP relayed a message from Shad's family.

Randy Savage got a Best Of special on WWE Network today. Asuka gets one Thursday.

MLW's Richard Holliday has signed a long-term contract to remain with the company.

WWE has trademarked "In Your House" and "Sister Abigail."

AEW's Casino Ladder Match will feature an unannounced competitor. Let the intrigue begin! I'm not sure that would be the best place to debut Drew Gulak given his style, but we'll see what they have in mind.

WWE's vice president of global television production has left the company. Michael Mansury gave notice several months back and has now finished up. He was seen as a successor to Kevin Dunn and a big part of Triple H's team. As such, his departure leaves a notable hole in the hierarchy.

WWE has surpassed 60 million YouTube subscribers. That's a very impressive number. I expect it will be talked about on the next earnings call.

WWE's Ghostbusters action figures are now available.

Martha Hart discussed her relationship with Bret Hart and more with The Wrap:
- There has been criticism Bret put the spotlight on himself and his own issues during Owen's passing. That's echoed here.

- It continues to look like Martha will never give WWE her blessing to honor Owen.

Ken Shamrock has been removed from Impact's World Championship contendership tournament as a result of the Michael Elgin attack angle last week. Ace Austin will replace Shamrock against Rhino. Shamrock vs. Elgin at Slammiversary could definitely be interesting.

Martha Hart discussed WWE with CBS Sports:
- She's seen as one of the biggest villains in wrestling for her stance on WWE honoring Owen.

- WWE's stuntwork was hardly exemplary on that date.

- Hmmmm… I wonder how much of WWE's side of things will be presented in that VICE episode.

- WWE not having a building for the Hall of Fame is honestly kind of a weak criticism, though it is clearly a financial vehicle for them.

- The lawsuit sounds like a worthy story in of itself.

The Bella Twins are on the Sunday Night Main Event podcast.

WrestleMania 34 aired in Puerto Rico Monday night, so other networks are using WWE content to fill scheduling gaps.

Championship Wrestling from Arkansas has shut down. They will now offer their library for free.

Andre The Giant was profiled in The Telegraph.

Owen Hart merchandise is now being sold on Pro Wrestling Tees to benefit The Owen Hart Foundation. These are available for a limited time. That's not going to sit well with Martha's critics.

Raw has announced Andrade vs. Apollo Crews for the United States Championship.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. It's usually promoted online, but they don't want to do too much to draw attention to shows on other networks.

2. Generally shaking up "the casts" for WWE TV gives them a short-term boost, whether they're from another brand or another decade. But, yes, ultimately it only changes a tiny bit of things. If you didn't like Raw a month ago, I don't see how adding one guest from Smackdown will change that.

3. Honestly I've never heard one way or another, but I would expect they could extend her deal since she's unable to fulfill her duties.

4.a. Chris Jericho has generally brought down the quality of AEW. He's very out of place with the young, fresh roster in a similar way that top current music festivals don't feature acts recreating their glory days. From a backstage perspective, it's unquestionably Cody who stepped up to the plate during the Georgia tapings from a quality standpoint. Jericho has had a lot of fun staying in the spotlight, but Cody has built the company's foundation with the TNT Title tournament.

4.b. It's a little tough to compare anyone in WWE to Cody's role at the Georgia tapings. Certainly from an on-screen perspective, Drew McIntyre and Asuka deserve positive press. I'd add Seth Rollins, MVP, Otis, and R-Truth as well.

5. Generally those deals were in place before they signed with WWE and are only for designs that were created then. There are a few exceptions for people who aren't getting much merchandise of their own.

More wrestling coming up.

Raw Reax - 5/18/20

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Raw.

Monday, May 18, 2020

Gronk appearances, another AEW ladder competitor, Raw segment, Interview with McIntyre, assorted wrestling press, and Questions on Awesome Kong's status, independent wrestling in the territory days, Carnyland, Zeus in the WWE HOF, and a documentary I'd like to see

Rob Gronkowski is set for Thursday's Late Late Show with James Cordon and Friday's Ellen. I really hope we see a title defense on one or both.

AEW's Casino Ladder Match has added Luchasaurus.

Raw has added Street Profits and the Viking Raiders in an axe throwing contest, to follow their basketball contest last week. It's been a change for those teams, for sure.

Drew McIntyre spoke to ESPN.

Braun Strowman hit softball home runs.

A QT Marshall film won best documentary at the San Diego Comic Con.

Scott Bowden was remembered.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I'm actually not sure if there's a strong chance of her returning as a wrestler once GLOW's over, which is probably why the angle of Nightmare Collective breaking up didn't get a prominent slot.

2 isn't a wrestling question.

3. It wasn't uncommon for wrestlers to work different promotions in different markets, since they weren't seen as competing with each other. Trying to work two promotions in the same market was a risky endeavor, though. "Outlaw shows" weren't really looked highly upon.

4. I expect it's going to be something they can do without taping new matches. The name certainly makes it sound like a departure from what they've built so far.

5. I don't see that being a big priority, since they usually use celebrity inductees to drive ticket sales and he's not really getting a lot of work these days.

6. Vince McMahon. No question.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Interviews with Bea/Foley/Rock/Godfather/Prichard/Hiromu, new AEW merchandise, Dark lineup, Revival sued, WWE contract expires, Network vault update, WWE producer retires, DDT shows update, Khan on Tyson-AEW, and Questions on Backstage on WWE Network, Becky's return, Too Cool in the HOF, and Rowan's spider

Bea Priestley is on Justin Roberts' latest podcast.

AEW has released "superkicks" high top sneakers for various talents. Pro Wrestling Tees has been invaluable for the company's merchandise.

Mick Foley discussed The Undertaker's WWE Network series, retirement, and more. Interesting to hear he'd undo his entire Impact run. I think others would concur with that assessment.

The Rock discussed his daughter signing with WWE and more.

Smackdown drew 2.06 million viewers this week, a small improvement from last week.

AEW's Casino Ladder Match has added Frankie Kazarian.

The Godfather is on the latest Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast.

- Hikaru Shida vs. Dani Jordan
- Sammy Guevara vs. Alan Angels
- QT Marshall vs. Clutch Adams

- Private Party vs. Ryan Rembrandt and Mike Reed

The former Revival have been sued by NC independent team The Revolt over the former WWE team's attempts to trademark "Fear The Revolt" for themselves.

- Cash Wheeler and Dax Hardwood counter that they are not attempting to trademark "The Revolt," but rather FTR, which will apparently mean different things at different times.

- The Revolt reached out to their fellow former NC wrestlers privately to settle the dispute. Hardwood and Wheeler informed the duo that FTR is the team name.

- FTR's side is mentioning similar team names from decades past, such as Ultimate Warrior and The Road Warriors, as well as Midnight Express and Rock 'n' Roll Express.

- FTR is also saying they're using "The Revolt" in a general sense to describe their post-WWE careers rather than specifically making that a team name.

- FTR have offered to finance The Revolt's application of that name and to compete with the team on independent shows.

Drew Gulak's WWE contract has expired. The two sides have been in negotiations, but he is currently a free agent and able to appear elsewhere immediately. I've really enjoyed a lot of his work, so I hope he's able to do great things somewhere soon.

WWE Network will add more episodes of Confidential this week.

D-Von Dudley has fully retired from in-ring competition. He was previously willing to consider a one-off angle or something similar. That's not particularly surprising. I wouldn't assume this will affect Bully Ray's in-ring future given how he's been focusing on singles competition.

Bruce Prichard spoke to Newsweek about "The Last Ride" and more. Very good insight there.

DDT's Peter Pan event will take place on June 6 and June 7. The second night will also be on Abema.

Tony Khan discussed Mike Tyson's AEW involvement. It's very cool to see.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I could see it coming to WWE Network sometime down the line, as I'd think it would be more valuable to WWE's archive than to FOX's.

2. A year is a long time in the wrestling business. I expect she'd get a great reaction upon returning. After that it will depend on what she does, whom she works with, etc. Fans were already growing tired of her at the top, so if she came back and continued her dominant streak, it's possible there would be backlash to that. We'll see who emerges in the meantime and what their momentum does when/if Becky returns.

3. Oh yeah for sure. It was a hotbed in its time.

4. I don't see why not, since Scotty works in the company. As long as there's a ceremony each year, there are going to need to be inductees.

5. The point of the pet was to have a mystery angle people would discuss, and to give Rowan motivation to be a vicious monster in the ring. Eventually it ran its course and he was used to elevate Drew McIntyre. It was successful for how it was intended; Rowan wasn't going to be a long-term project.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Becky Lynch was set to face Nia Jax at Money in the Bank in a victorious effort, with Shayna Baszler winning the briefcase. Wow. Talk about building one star at everyone else's expense.

AEW turned a small profit in April due to taping so much content at once in Georgia. Naturally they would have done better if they were running in front of paying crowds, but it's impressive they're already recouping the initial sharp investments.

The Casino Ladder Match will have nine competitors, with all but the first two coming in at ninety seconds. Notably the match can end before all nine entrants are involved. It's an interesting idea, though the idea of a match ending before everyone enters it feels off.

Dr. Wagner Jr.'s gym was shut down due to local government order.

Stardom has canceled all shows until June 16 except for one upcoming empty arena event that will be on Stardom World.

NJPW's Toru Yano has been hired as a special content advisor for NJPW and Stardom. That's an interesting move!

The Revolt are looking to work as free agents, as there are talents in multiple companies they want to work with. We'll see how long that mindset lasts.

OVW is looking at running in Florida due to being locked down in Kentucky and being unable to get any income. That would be a gamechanger!

Northeast Wrestling is advertising a June 20 return in Connecticut due to that state looking to ease coronavirus restrictions.

Mauro Ranallo is hosting Showtime Extreme's Morning Kombat Strikeforce Classics.

Rey Mysterio's injury angle is being done because his contract is running down. He signed a two year deal in September 2018, but has an out clause 18 months into it. He could be looking at other options.

Rachael Evers being released was partially due to an issue with the NXT medical staff. She had been rehabilitating a knee injury.

College wrestler Gable Steveson teased coming to WWE on Twitter.

Shelly Martinez is launching a live podcast on VOC Nation Tuesday night.

NXT marked 1,000 days since Undisputed Era debuted. The show continues to feel same-y as a result.

Zack Ryder (Matt Cardona) and Curt Hawkins (Brian Myers) have been added to RetroMania.

Otis spoke to Between The Ropes. I can only imagine WWE employees returning to work after that corporate ladder match.

Sammy Guevara spoke to Catch Club in Spanish.

Maria Manic will be on ROH's next podcast.

ROH's next TV episode will spotlight Dalton Castle.

Melbourne City Wrestling canceled its June 13 event.

Territory wrestling in small towns was profiled.

Friday Night Smackdown has announced:
- Bayley vs. Charlotte Flair in a non-title match
- Jeff Hardy vs. Sheamus in an Intercontinental Championship tournament match
- AJ Styles(!) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura in an Intercontinental Championship tournament match
- Otis and Mandy Rose vs. Dolph Ziggler and Sonya Deville

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1.a. Greatest from an in-ring perspective? Perhaps, but Miz has been more successful.

1.b. Ryback and Kenny King still wrestle from the early seasons. Considering how long ago they aired, that's not really a surprise.

1.c. Not at all. The show was a reality show first and foremost, and most of the people they recruited wouldn't have gotten into the business otherwise. It exposed more people to the WWE product and what it takes to make it there.

2. They're completely unrelated projects. NXT the show was started as a replacement to the ECW brand. It had some "reality" aspects but involved people already under developmental deals. There wasn't a recruitment process like Tough Enough had.

3. Given the pandemic shifting taping schedules, I can't say I'm surprised it hasn't been considered as a top priority. And with NXT having its own cruiserweight tournament, that tied up most of the wrestlers as it would be a little strange for them to be facing off in exhibition matches on 205 Live while that was going on.

4. Doing their best at home I suppose.

5. He had a pretty long in-ring career. I don't blame him for avoiding the thumbtacks and barbed wire now that he's a producer!

More wrestling tomorrow.
