WWE Main Event Reax - 1/30/13, Interviews with Del Rio/HBK/King/Dixie, WWE signing official, NXT tryouts, NXT release, Taker update, Main Event idea scrapped, roster delayed getting out of Smackdown, and Questions on ending Taker's streak, microphones, and Rock beating top guys

Main Event:
I liked the opening segment to set up the main event.

Nice match! Both guys looked like capable performers. Of course, it's going to be important to see how they match up with other superstars.

I didn't really like the PTP/Tensai/Brodus segment due to its subject matter. This is crazy. They're more talented than this.

Other than the dancing, I really liked Tensai vs. Titus. Two talented "big men". It wouldn't surprise me if Titus moves up the card some day.

Live event shake-ups, guest at Raw, what happened after Raw, Interviews with Bearer/Golust/Cabana, and Questions on Cena post-Mania, Rock, Brock, and an Aces and 8s ref

John Cena is off the weekend of 2/8-2/10. The New Age Outlaws, however, will be working those dates. Big Show is also off during that time. Everyone needs a break here and there. It's a shame that they put so many eggs in those baskets.

Comedian George Wallace was at Raw.

After Raw, John Cena sang "Happy Birthday" to Sheamus. Dolph Ziggler interrupted and of course was laid out.

Add Stephanie McMahon to those at Raw. She doesn't go on the road every week due to having kids.

Knockout sick, DX member backstage, Updates on Jericho/Lesnar, Gut Check profiled, Smackdown audience, Interview with Little Guido/Nunzio, and Questions on Rock's Mania opponent, Josh Matthews, finishers, and hating Cena

Miss Tessmacher came down with the flu in the UK and was taken off of some shows.

Sean Waltman was backstage at the Royal Rumble. He would have been a nice surprise.

Chris Jericho has signed a full-time WWE deal through WrestleMania 29. Hopefully he elevates Ziggler, Big E, and maybe Barrett this go-round. WWE could definitely use some rehabilitation for some of its talented up-and-comers.

Brock Lesnar has signed a new 2-year deal with WWE. That will be big. I'm hoping he works with some newer names. Punk? Sheamus? Del Rio? Orton? Bryan? Ziggler?

Interviews with Lawler/Backlund, considered Rumble surprises, and Questions on announcing, a Rock tour, wrestling in the press, Mania, and the Attitude Era

Jerry Lawler talked to TMZ. I'm not shocked that he wants to get back in the ring. He's a lifer.

Bob Backlund also talked. Great act.

Carlito and Tommy Dreamer were talked about as surprise entrances in the Royal Rumble, but obviously neither appeared. I would have been ok with them being involved.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
Nothing to really add to 1. I don't see WWE or TNA hiring someone who doesn't have experience, though some people they have now have broadcasting backgrounds other than wrestling.

Saturday Morning Slam Reax - 1/26/13, Interviews with Hogan/Sheamus, more Twitter, and Questions on Lesnar as champ, Jeff's two titles, Taker, SNL, and Punk vs. Rock

Saturday Morning Slam:
After the initial comedy, Miz vs. Darren ended up being pretty good. Hopefully once he gains some traction, Darren gets a chance to impress (and win matches).

Kofi vs. Epico was fine. Two of WWE's talented younger acts.

Ziggler vs. Ryder should be good. Ziggler shouldn't have any problems with Ryder if he's a World Title contender.

Rock's sparring partner, Interviews with King Mo/Sheamus/Punk/Booker/Lawler, TNA morale up, NXT star in Rumble, and Questions on Cena, Daniels, the NXT Championship, and Sting vs. Taker

The Rock has been training with Michael McGillicutty, who he endorsed on Twitter. I've been impressed with McGillicutty's more recent outings. Hopefully he has a future.

King Mo was profiled on Sports Illustrated. I'm very curious to see how he'll fare in the wrestling world. I like that he's getting TNA publicity.

Sheamus talked about his 18-second WrestleMania match and more.

C.M. Punk talked about the Rumble, WrestleMania, his knee, and more.

Interviews with Kofi/Rhodes, WWE changing live events, Orton at NXT, NXT live event changes, British Bootcamp stars work TNA live events, and Questions

Kofi Kingston talked about getting advice from The Rock among other things. He disputed that he's being "mentored" as the piece asserts.

WWE is changing its live events, dropping the "Raw" and "Smackdown" names. This could mean that people could appear on both shows. WWE increasingly focuses on the same top stars instead of building people up. This will only exacerbate that process. Fans don't have much of a reason to care about a lot of lower-card matches and superstars, since they're rarely on TV and when they are, they generally lose in decisive fashion or are treated as jokes.

Randy Orton will be at the 2/21 NXT taping. Cool. I'd like to see them do a segment where someone tries to make a name for themselves by challenging him (similar to his work as Legend Killer). Someone could try to form a new Legacy or something. Anyway, he needs to be used to shine a brighter light on some talented stars down there.

Main Event Reax - 1/23/13, King Mo update, former X-Division Champion gone from TNA?, Interview with Baretta, Orton at Comic-Con, and Questions on hating Cena, Ziggler cashing in, Rock vs. Lesnar, and choosing a megastar

Main Event:
Fine Ryback promo. He's a pretty basic power character, but he works well in that regard.

I liked Cesaro's promo, too. I hope he has a good future.

Cesaro vs. Ryback was good. I'm pleasantly surprised that they protected Cesaro, though I don't know that a pinfall loss to someone as dominant to Ryback would really hurt him much.

Fine Show promo. I like him better as the dangerous giant. They've at least made his character somewhat interesting.

Wow, Rhodes Scholars kind of buried the Usos there. If they're defined as jobbers, it doesn't really mean anything if Rhodes Scholars win. And what does it say about PTP in kayfabe if they lose repeatedly to a team that's considered a non-threat?

Pretty good tag main event. I'm fine with Rhodes Scholars being positioned better than PTP, for the record. I like both teams, but think Rhodes Scholars is going places sooner. Both guys really have "it". PTP's getting there at least.

Raw dark match, thoughts on Cena's promo, Otunga note, Interviews with Cesaro/Crowbar/Stephanie/Del Rio and Ricardo, Gut Check note, Smackdown audience, and Questions on Kane ending the streak, TNA replicating WCW, wins and losses, Orton, and "belts"

The Usos beat the Prime Time Players to warm the crowd up for Raw. It's really about time for PTP to get a win over those guys. I have no problems with the Usos, but think PTP have some good potential for down the road.

John Cena's Raw promo wasn't well received in the locker room, especially following what we heard from C.M. Punk and The Rock. Cena knows that WWE's going to push him as "the guy" no matter what, so he can just go out there and amuse himself while most of the roster is doing their damnedest to get TV time. There's something wrong there.

David Otunga was accidentally busted open at a live event, wrestling the Great Khali. I think it would take blood to make me interested in that match. Yikes. Yes, Otunga's improving, but he still has a ways to go and working with Khali isn't helping him at all.

Antonio Cesaro talked ahead of the Royal Rumble. He handled himself well. Keep an eye on him in the years to come.

Interview with McGuinness, big Gut Check contest, British Bootcamp update, and Questions on Ziggler, pipe bombs, Mania, Cena promos, and Raw 20

Nigel McGuinness/Desmond Wolfe talked about his documentary and more.

TNA is allowing fans to determine which participants in their Gut Check tryouts will make it to TV. The Naturals' Chase Stevens, Sami Callihan, and The Score's Arda Ocal are all in the running. Could be interesting if any of them make it.

The contestants of TNA British Bootcamp will work on the upcoming European tour. I hope they have some keepers there.

JBL apologizes, more from NXT on live events, Interview with Mansfield, WWE profiles NXT, and Questions on cashing in the X Title, The Shield, and Hall of Famers

JBL apologized to the former Dudley Boys for slighting them on Smackdown.

NXT's Bo Dallas defeated Tensai on a recent Raw live event. What happened to Tensai? I hope Dallas impressed because what little I've seen of him wasn't what I had hoped for. He's still very young.

Eddy Mansfield talked about old-school NWA and WWF. Enlightening read. I liked the shot at TNA.

WWE took a look at NXT's top prospects. Bo Dallas is front and center. Could this be our Class of 2013?

Saturday Morning Slam Reax - 1/19/13, NXT star works live events, TNA wedding coverage, Profiles on Cesaro and Clayton, TNA Champion pulled from UK tour, and Questions on Taz, TNA/ROH, Gut Check, Genesis, and The Rock

Saturday Morning Slam:
Natalya vs. Alicia was better than it had any right to be. Divas' matches don't get much attention in 2013 sometimes. Glad to see Natalya pick up a win, since she's usually putting someone over. Natalya vs. Kaitlyn would be a nice feud for the title.

Good Sheamus promo.

I didn't care for Sheamus vs. McGillicutty as I'm pretty sure they could put on a pretty damned good match if told to do so.

Good segment between Miz and PTP. Hopefully both parties get to shine. Darren's worked hard and could get a nice rub.

Updates on Mysterio/Kidd/Hawkins, Twitter Q&A, Smackdown hits milestone, World Champ at NXT, state of developing talent, Interview with Goldust, Impact viewership, and Questions on the Muppets, and the Bully/Brooke wedding

Rey Mysterio is advertised for an upcoming live event in Los Angeles, which is close to home. No word on when he'll be back full-time.

Tyson Kidd has undergone knee surgery.

Curt Hawkins has returned to action. I don't see him doing much besides vying for a TV spot against JTG.

Eve Torres talked ahead of a Raw live event. Obviously this was before she left. Hopefully we see her again down the line.

Justin Credible talked about his demons and more.

Hulk Hogan, Sting, Kurt Angle, Tara, and Mr. Anderson were all a part of clips congratulating OVW on reaching 700 episodes. That is very impressive!

Main Event:
Good videos to set the stage for the match.

Good match between Cesaro and Orton. Cesaro looked like he was in Orton's league since he lasted so long.

I liked the post-match. Heels being heels.

Pretty good tag match. Yes, the Usos won again. I'm not really miffed. It was a good match.

Big name left out of Raw 20, Update on Kidd, Raw audience, and Questions on spoilers, Rock failing a Wellness test, Bully Ray - As/8s, and Punk vs. Rock

Shawn Michaels was originally planned for Raw 20. No word on why he didn't appear.

Tyson Kidd is now only set to be out for 6-8 months. Thank goodness. Losing a full year could really set his career back.

Raw's audience was 4.55 million viewers. What can I say? A lot of people like The Rock.

Marella injury, TNA locker room buzz, Smackdown audience, ex-Divas Champ gone, cameos on Impact, what happened after Raw, and Questions on WWE dropping PPVs, Punk at Mania, 3MB, Punk retiring, and The Rock's glasses

Santino Marella suffered some form of neck injury over the weekend, hence his replacement on the card by Jamie Noble. It seems like there have been a lot of injuries and the like lately.

Update: Santino is undergoing an MRI.

The TNA locker room was said to be pleased with how Genesis turned out. I was less of a fan. Anything with Hogans and Sting involved I'm not so crazy about in 2013.

Smackdown topped 3 million viewers on Friday, the first time it has done so in a LONG time. I hope those Rock fans are now Del Rio fans.

NXT stars on live events, former Cruiserweight Champion in action, Interview with Dixie, SMS change, Edge not at Raw 20, next Hall of Famer?, and Questions on Rock, KotR, Daniels, technical matches, and Jeff Hardy

NXT's Bo Dallas teamed with Justin Gabriel to beat 3MB on this weekend's live events. Not someone I would think to team with him.

Fandango beat Yoshi Tatsu on live events, too. I'm willing to give the gimmick a chance mainly because I'm a Johnny Curtis fan.

Jamie Noble defeated Tensai on live events this weekend. So now Tensai can't even beat people who are officially retired. Yikes.

Dixie Carter talked about the current direction for TNA.

Saturday Morning Slam Reax - 1/12/13, NXT star works live events, Interview with Tara, and Questions on TNA PPVs, Eve vs. Madison, and copying PWInsider

Saturday Morning Slam:
Fine Sandow promo.

I liked Orton vs. Sandow well enough. I don't think it really hurt Sandow to lose clean since he lasted so long. For someone who wasn't even on TV this time last year, he's done a lot.

NXT's Leo Kruger worked the most recent Raw live events, losing to Zack Ryder. Could 2013 be as big of a year for call-ups as 2012 was?

TNA's Tara, formerly Victoria in her WWF/WWE days was interviewed. Good stuff. She has a lot of admirable qualities.

Hardcore Justice update, Interview with Kofi/Bret/Kane/Snuka/Daniels, First member of 2013 WWE Hall, Impact audience, a WWE and NXT release, Jackson update, and Questions on Bully/Brooke, Sarita/Rosita, and Brock Lesnar

TNA's second ECW reunion special will not solely be about ECW, but will feature some names from that promotion. ECW's seemingly always good for a nostalgia reaction. Hopefully the TNA full-timers get the rub from working with those guys.

Kofi Kingston was interviewed. Twice. Interesting to hear him (indirectly) dismiss TNA as competition. I've heard Vince McMahon say something similar. TNA should take that as a challenge.

Mick Foley has been announced for the WWE Hall of Fame. He's certainly deserving.

Bret Hart talked ahead of the re-release of "Wrestling with Shadows". I'd prefer Flair as GM to him.

Kliq and a Diva at NXT, Generico correction, Interview with Snuka, major TNA PPV shake-up and Kidd injured

Shawn Michaels was set to appear at the most recent NXT taping. Kevin Nash was in attendance.

El Generico has not officially been signed by WWE as of yet. He has to clear medical testing first. But if he does that, he's in.

Natalya and Sean Waltman were also at the most recent NXT taping. No word on if either appeared on-screen. Hopefully if they did, it was in a way that benefited the stars of the future.

Main Event:
I liked Sheamus' promo ok. It feels more and more like he's going for that Cena spot as top face.

Underwhelming promo from Big E. Maybe AJ should do the talking and he can do the smashing of people.

Sheamus vs. Ziggler DELIVERED. Ziggler can be a major player in 2013. He puts in his all every night. Sheamus showed why he's a main event act. I hope he stays there as his only drawback is is his goofy promos. I liked the ending to protect Ziggler but keep Sheamus and the Brogue Kick strong.

Good post-match. I hope Big E can "go" in the ring past squash matches as he has the size to make a mark.

I liked Barrett vs. Ryder a lot as well. Ryder showed that he's no pushover and Barrett's momentum continued. Both guys look to have good futures IF WWE doesn't get finicky.

Wednesday, January 9, 2013

An interesting Twitter note, Update on Madusa, NXT appearances, what happened after Raw went off the air, WWE HoF update, backstage notes, Pope leaves TNA, new Gut Check, and Questions on Cena costing Rock, a Taker DVD, Vince's view of the business, and unedited footage

Though he wasn't shown on the graphic on Raw, Zack Ryder has more Twitter followers than The Miz. As popular as he is on Twitter, it's a shame that he's so low on the card. I don't necessarily think he should be pushed ahead of Miz, but he's not featured much at all it seems.

Madusa will only be possibly attending next week's Raw, not appearing on it. I think they could have done something good with her, Kaitlyn, and Eve leading to Kaitlyn winning the Divas Title in her hometown. It's not too late!

Brodus Clay will be joining Dolph Ziggler and AJ at Wednesday's NXT live event.

World Title direction, NXT stars at WWE events, new Genesis matches, former Women's Champion on Raw 20, Smackdown audience, Raw visitors, and Questions on Attitude Era tag teams in the HoF, Raw vs. the BCS, Swagger, and Lesnar

If current plans hold up, Sheamus and Randy Orton will be featured prominently in the World Title picture going into WrestleMania. It's clear to me which man should walk out with the gold. I don't even think Orton should hold the title unless it's an emergency. Those two Wellness strikes are a BIG deal.

A number of NXT talents attended recent WWE live events in the Florida area, which makes sense since that's where NXT is based.

James Storm vs. Christopher Daniels has been added to TNA Genesis. I think that long-term, they should elevate Storm as a top guy.

Update: Sting vs. DOC has also been put on the card. It will be really interesting to see how they book that. Do they paint DOC as a credible threat or show that Sting "still has it"?

DDP helping Hall, and Questions on the Brand Extension, turning Rock heel, Hogan going for the TNA Title, and the Elimination Chamber

Diamond Dallas Page is now assisting Scott Hall after his recent success with Jake "The Snake" Roberts. He deserves applause for this.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I can go either way on it. Some guys are overexposed, some guys don't get enough TV time, and some guys get some valuable TV experience from working both shows. I see why WWE wants a lot of its top guys working both shows to prop ratings up, but ratings weren't a problem in the past when they built up new stars better (since they couldn't rely on having most/all of the top stars on both shows). Though I think they could very well have had a better roster then, too.

2. I'd like it, and think there's at least part of the audience that would boo Rock if they played up his selective schedule and leaving the business. I don't think WWE would try it, though.

Saturday Morning Slam Reax - 1/5/12, Query on Daffney in WWE, X-Divisioners return, NXT star working live events, Update on Nash, Impact viewership, and a Question on the brand extension

Saturday Morning Slam:
I liked the opening video package.

Good promo from the tag champs. It's kind of weird to see a formerly dark character like Kane on SMS.

It was expected that Kane would beat someone as low on the card as Mahal. There was nothing "wrong" with the in-ring action, though.

That was better than I was expecting from Slater. Good match and the story made sense.

I liked the Orton/Sandow segment. Sandow's an effective talker and Orton can easily get by with just showing up and not saying much.

First up, a query:
1. There are no plans that I know of to bring back Terrence and Terrell Hughes to TNA. I enjoyed their angle, but haven't seen their names pop up in some time.

Here's the poster for Elimination Chamber. No, this doesn't necessarily mean The Rock will wrestle inside the Chamber.

Chris Masters talked. Smart guy. I wouldn't mind seeing him back in WWE or in TNA at all.

Query on Chris Sabin, Update on Mysterio, Smackdown audience, TNA notes, another Rock date, and Questions on Vince/ECW, Del Rio, a Heyman stable, and Hogan as Champion

First up, a query:
1. There's no firm update on Chris Sabin returning from injury. I was simply speculating with my "predictions" post. I'll be sure to pass on any word, though.

Rey Mysterio is missing time due to a personal family matter. WWE is working with him schedule-wise.

The most recent Smackdown got 2.66 million viewers.

Everything else from yesterday is after the break.

Main Event Reax - 1/2/13, another Rock date, Gut Check update, Interview with McGuinness/Wolfe, and Questions on Ryback, Punk vs. Rock, and Ryback vs. Rock

Main Event:
Nice video package on Cesaro. He's done well so far in his tenure.

I liked Cesaro's promo. I think he might be getting more comfortable on the mic.

They didn't really have much material to pull from for Khali. The video was ok for what it was: a video painting Khali as a good guy.

Natalya deserves better than being with Khali and Hornswoggle. Khali's terrible on the mic. If he wasn't so big and popular in the important market of India, I don't think he'd cut it in WWE.

I think Cesaro did the best he could to bring a good match out of Khali, but there's only so much he can do.

Nice promo-off between Cesaro and Miz. I hope both have good years in 2013.

Kofi and Barrett had a nice back-and-forth. Both guys are getting closer and closer to being main event worthy.

I liked the gauntlet match idea since we hadn't seen it so long. What does it say about WWE's thoughts on Tatsu that he lost in such quick fashion? JTG I expected to lose, and he maximized his TV time. Gabriel at least had a nice showing. Kofi winning was a nice touch to build momentum to Friday. Barrett's protected since it was his 4th opponent of the night.

Questions on wrestling sites, Rock vs. Brock, Ryback at Mania, dream matches, and beating Taker

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I check out 420chan's /wooo/ a lot. Also sometimes PWTorch for interviews and such. And I do visit WWE and TNA's official websites. Also cagematch.de for match results. It's a very valuable resource.

2. I don't think I'd mind seeing that.
