Podcast notes, Interviews with Keith Lee+Jericho, MLW PPV deal, Becky on Showtime show, WWE Webby nominations, Ryder teases title return, WWE titleholder roundtable, DSTOR+FS1 specials, NXT+Dynamite matches, DON match official, more on AEW Georgia tapings, and Questions on AEW profitability vs. Impact, Maverick's angle, and COVID-19 wrestling

"The Bump" featured Rey Mysterio, Becky Lynch, Big E, Carmella, and Showtime's Brian Koppelman.

- Next week's episode will feature The Miz, Maryse, and Tamina.

Keith Lee spoke to PWInsider before NXT. He's a flagbearer for NXT right now.

MLW has signed a PPV deal with iNDEMAND. Past MLW events will debut on the service starting May 7. Their growth continues!

Becky Lynch will appear on Showtime's Billions on May 3.

WWE is nominated for Webby Awards for:
- Podcasts: Sports (After The Bell with Kevin Owens, Shayna Baszler, and the Viking Raiders)
- Social: Sports (WWE Instagram)
- Video: Unscripted (Table for 3 with Braun Strowman, Alexa Bliss, and Ember Moon)
- Video: Reality (WWE 365: Alexa Bliss)

Zack Ryder teased the return of the Internet Championship. I feel like that would fit right in on BTE.

WWE held a virtual roundtable with Drew McIntyre, Nikki Cross, Kay Lee Ray, and Gallus' Wolfgang and Mark Coffey, all Scottish titleholders. That's pretty cool to see.

Jeff Hardy will be on the next "After The Bell."

"Dark Side of the Ring" drew 255,000 viewers for the David Schultz episode.

FS1's WWE specials drew:
- 124,000 for John Cena at 7:00
- 220,000 for Triple H at 8:00
- 270,000 for The Undertaker at 9:00
- 208,000 for Shawn Michaels at 10:00

Eric Bischoff is on Sean Mooney's latest podcast.

Darby Allin is on Vickie Guerrero's latest podcast.

Chris Jericho spoke to Newsweek about AEW returning to live content and more. It will be a relief in some ways given some of the filler segments they've had.

Booker T.'s podcast is featuring a roast of the WWE Hall of Famer.

NXT has announced:
- Adam Cole vs. Velveteen Dream for the NXT Championship
- Charlotte Flair vs. Io Shirai for the NXT Championship
- Johnny Gargano vs. Donovan Dijakovic
- Karrion Kross and Scarlett arrive

Dynamite has announced:
- Jon Moxley vs. Kazarian
- Matt Hardy and Kenny Omega vs. Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara
- Cody vs. Joey Janela

Double or Nothing has officially added Cody vs. Lance Archer for the TNT Championship.

Tony Khan wrote the Georgia episodes of Dynamite personally, by himself. Cody was greatly involved in executing the plans at the taping. There has been good focus on the shows.

QT Marshall booked local talent for AEW's Georgia tapings, as one might expect.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. It's notable that's an argument that can even be considered. I'm sure AEW invested a lot with signing so many talents, but they've also consistently reached important milestones. It's a tough call since it's not an apples-to-apples comparison, but things look pretty rosy for AEW right now.

2. There's real emotion worked into the story for sure. It's possible he does end up sticking around, but I wouldn't put high odds on it.

3. No to both ideas. Given how wrestling fans behave in person, giving them such a spotlight isn't a good idea.

4. I mean WWE employees are working in WWE HQ already so it's not much of a stretch to tape matches there.

5. This has already been pretty thoroughly covered in previous question columns.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Raw matches, MITB card change, WWE postponements, big WWE release, wrestling trademarks, assorted wrestling press, Interview with Mandy, Raw audience, and Questions on WWE running Florida, Highlander wrestling scene, Impact picking up WWE releases, and WWE and AEW continuing to run

Raw has announced:
- Street Profits vs. Viking Raiders for the Raw Tag Team Championship
- Ricochet and Cedric Alexander vs. Shane Thorne and Brendan Vink

Apollo Crews will miss Money in the Bank due to Raw's storyline injury. More on this tomorrow.

WWE's Australia and New Zealand dates have been postponed. They were set for August.

Cain Velasquez has been released. That's surprising on one level, but I'm sure he was pulling in a pretty big salary. WWE doesn't seem to have gotten much benefit from his run overall.

"Urban Wrestling Federation" and "UWF" have been trademarked by Stonecutter Media LLC. We'll see if that idea gets any traction.

Luke Gallows' promotion has trademarked "Sex Ferguson," a name he has used previously.

Zack Ryder has trademarked "Internet Champion" and "Alwayz Ready."

WWE has honored 100-year-old Tom Moore, who has raised millions for coronavirus relief.

WWE Network will add Smackdown's best matches of the decade Thursday.

Sid Vicious has joined Instagram.

Stephanie McMahon has joined Ad Council's Board of Directors. That says a lot about WWE's reach.

NWA streamed a special covering the company's changes with Billy Corgan.

Stone Cold now has a Best of WWE collection on WWE Network.

Mandy Rose spoke to Chris Van Vliet about Otis' storyline and more.

Raw drew 1.82 million viewers this week, the lowest number the show has ever drawn. I don't see that number changing for a while.

WWE's Madison Square Garden show has been postponed from June 27.

Conan O'Brien covered wrestling being declared essential in Florida.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I'd note the relationships WWE has in Florida with Full Sail and the Performance Center, as well as the intention to run WrestleMania there. Any comment beyond that would go from being a wrestling story to a political story, which is outside the scope of this blog.

2. It appears the footage was shot at The Meadowlands Arena in New Jersey.

3. I expect AEW will be a bigger priority for a lot of those talents, but obviously they won't all be signed there. I could see Mike Bennett heading back to Impact, and others being under consideration.

4. USA and TNT are paying for new episodes to air each week. As long as WWE and AEW are able to provide that, they're happy to make the money!

5. The Internet's a crazy and dangerous place. Be careful out there!

More wrestling tomorrow.

Assorted wrestling news, Interviews with Slater/Breeze/Moxley, Taz Q&A set, new 2K game announced, court cases postponed, another WWE furlough, WWE opposing Cody trademarks?, and Questions on why ratings were down, USA replacing Raw with documentaries, and HHH XXV

Super Showdown 2020 has been released on DVD. Wow Goldberg's title reign ended before his win even made it to disc!

Heath Slater (now Heath Miller) is on Lilian Garcia's latest podcast.

Tyler Breeze is on New Day's latest podcast.

Xavier Woods competed in a United Nations Foundation Mortal Kombat tournament.

Taz will have a live Q&A on AEW's social media Thursday night.

2K announced WWE 2K Battlegrounds. That's definitely a very different WWE property!

WrestleMania 36's Blu-Ray will feature each night's Kickoff match as well as various TV segments.

Jon Moxley spoke to PWInsider.com to promote his new movie. Renee Young is in a unique position, for sure.

Jeff Hardy's DWI court case has been pushed back to July 16 due to COVID-19 precautions in the court system.

Teddy Hart's court cases have been postponed to July 16. I'd assume COVID-19 played a role there, too.

Dynamite this week will air on TSN 1 and TSN 2 in Canada, which will surely help ratings there.

Gerald Brisco has been furloughed by WWE.

Kalisto disclosed a December shoulder injury. That explains why he hasn't been with Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado.

WWE is looking into opposing Cody's trademarks of "Slamboree" and "The Match Beyond," as they have filed for an extension on the deadline to do so. They now have until July 22.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I expect a lot of people are watching the news or otherwise have bigger priorities, for obvious reasons.

2. I don't see it happening. USA Network has three hours of original "in arena" WWE content every Monday for a reason.

3. They are concerned but there's only so much they can do. It took years for ratings to reach this low point. Even if they do everything perfectly, it's going to take significant time to get back where they were.

4. It's probably pretty much par for the course working with Vince!

5. It's basically advertising. They've got bills to pay, too!

More wrestling tomorrow.

UK promotion launches app, wrestler's son signs with NFL, podcast guests, Lawler addresses Raw remark, indie wrestler passes, Smackdown wrestler gets press, Smackdown adds tag match, and Questions on Gronk's status as champion, Braun's title reign, Drake's in-ring future, and AEW hiring Chioda

Insane Championship Wrestling has launched an app, linked to its on-demand service, YouTube channel, and more.

Rick Steiner's son has signed with the NFL. Just in time to challenge for the 24/7 Title!

Damian Priest is on the Swerve City podcast.

Jerry Lawler discussed his "ramen noodle moonsault" comment on his podcast this week, explaining his intention was to play the character of the behind-the-times, clueless announcer. Boy is that a shoot. Having the 70-year-old Lawler at the commentary desk is indicative of WWE being generations behind at developing voices for their programs. Hopefully MVP and/or Mickie James take over his role at some point as the veteran wrestler providing insight.

Priscilla Kelly is on Brandi Rhodes' latest podcast.

Independent wrestler Cosmos passed away at 52 from the coronavirus. Sad to see that.

Smackdown wrestler Daniel Vidot got local press for his TV debut.

Smackdown has announced Big E and Kofi Kingston vs. Forgotten Sons. It's unclear which two members of the latter faction will compete in the non-title match.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. WWE is actively promoting Gronkowski as champion despite the trade, so they will address his title status at some point in some fashion.

2. It will likely depend on how long WWE goes without being in front of a live audience. I could see The Fiend taking it back from Braun and him being the one to lose to Roman as was planned earlier in the year, but ultimately things are very up in the air as far as Roman is concerned.

3. No way would they ask me and I'm not even remotely qualified!

4. It wouldn't shock me to see the guy leaving put over the names staying in three straight matches. I really don't see it as a punishment of any kind. If anything WWE's doing him a favor by letting him work a few weeks after his release.

5. It's not a bad idea given his experience.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Raw segment set, honoring HHH, released NXT names speak out, Untold episode set, FNSD audience, assorted wrestling press, and Questions on released names continuing to work, whether WWE needed to release anyone, and Bianca's background

Raw has announced Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins having a contract signing for their WWE Championship match.

Renee Young shouted out Triple H's anniversary in a unique fashion.

Taynara Conti discussed her NXT release and next moves. We'll see if she gets more opportunities. Impact and ROH could use some additions to their divisions.

WWE Untold with Triple H vs. Mick Foley is coming May 3. I look forward to that!

Smackdown drew 2.01 million viewers this week. Wrestling as a whole is getting slammed by COVID-19 coverage.

Chris Jericho paid tribute to Triple H's 25th WWE anniversary. Glad to see that.

Triple H got a shoutout from Donald Trump as well.

Deonna Purrazzo discussed her release. I hope we see her used prominently.

#FTR released a T-shirt mocking concept art allegedly for WWE gimmicks presented after they had expressed they wanted to leave the company. Honestly that looks pretty entertaining.

AEW official Aubrey Edwards has her first T-shirt.

Total Extreme Wrestling 2020 has been pushed back around two weeks to deal with technical issues.

Kurt Angle did a Facebook Q&A.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Unusual but not unheard of, as they laid out.

2. They thought Wall Street would look more favorably on them cutting expenses to match the loss of revenue.

Nothing to add to 3, 4, or 6.

5. She has a significant athletic background pre-WWE and brought that same drive to wrestling.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Why WWE changed tapings, AEW looking to return to taping, why NXT name has missed shows, WM38 site update, WWE furloughs long-time employee, WWE-FS1 audiences, AAA interested in WWE releases, coronavirus-related wrestling press, more on Cody trademark, AEW signing official, NXT Japan update, Interviews with Big Show/HHH/Cena, Hogan movie update, Roman charity, ROH sale, Jericho appears with released WWE names, upcoming FS1 specials, Dream responds to allegations, WWE stock update, FNSD preview, and Questions on the 2020 HoF class' status, Russo vs. Cornette, Gronk's WWE future, and WWE promoting current content on ESPN and FS1

WWE's taping schedule change was due to USA and FOX giving WWE permission to continue airing taped shows despite the TV contracts limiting taped episodes. Of course it was painted as a "Vince changing his mind" story instead of one based on those contracts, but that's standard in wrestling reporting.

AEW is looking to return to Florida tapings on May 6. While they have content taped for weeks beyond that, this date will allow them to use talents who were grounded due to stay-at-home orders. Any leftover content will likely be repurposed for AEW Dark.

- The May 13 Dynamite will be taped on May 6, and the May 20 episode will be live. Double or Nothing is also planned to air from Florida.

Kyle O'Reilly has not worked NXT due to his diabetes.

WrestleMania 38 is being looked at for the site of WrestleMania 36.

WWE furloughed a long-time director, Kerwin Silfies, who first worked in the company in around 1984. Older, more costly employees saw a lot of cuts.

Becky Lynch's FS1 specials drew 119,000 at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday and 179,000 at 10:00 p.m. Tuesday. It was Charlotte Flair's FS1 special that drew 299,000 fans. Make of that difference what you will.

WWE Backstage drew 116,000 viewers this week, down from recent weeks.

AAA is interested in Lio Rush, Primo, and Epico. I expect Lio to do well post-WWE.

Coronavirus-related wrestling updates:
- AAA has postponed Verano de Escandalo to September 12.

- Dr. Wagner, Jr. has returned to AAA for the time being, as independent wrestling has taken a big hit.

- The Tragos/Thesz Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame is postponing its 2020 ceremony to 2021.

- Mexican independent wrestlers have met with government officials regarding being out of work. They had teased a protest.

Cody trademarking his former ring name is due to WWE letting the rights elapse.

Dark Order's Preston Vance has signed with AEW.

NXT Japan has been postponed indefinitely following WWE's recent cuts. That's smart. WWE has really thrown a lot of money at a lot of endeavors that haven't been profitable.

Big Show discussed wrestling Drew McIntyre and more.

Hulk Hogan's biopic got an update in a Chris Hemsworth interview.

Roman Reigns and Jimmy's Famous Seafood worked together on a Leukemia & Lymphoma Society fundraiser. Glad to see that.

ROH is doing a buy one, get one free merchandise sale.

Chris Jericho is on The Major Figure Wrestling Podcast with the former Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins. I'm sure that will spawn plenty of AEW rumors!

FS1 specials for May 5 include:
- Ric Flair's Best WWE Matches at 7:00 p.m.
- Edge's Best WrestleMania Matches at 8:00 p.m.
- Brock Lesnar's Most Dominant Matches at 9:00 p.m.
- Roman Reigns' Best WrestleMania Matches at 10:00 p.m.

Vice's "After Dark" series will return following the "extended" versions of "Dark Side of the Ring" episodes. Basically with DSOTR expanding, the post-show is being curtailed.

Triple H spoke to ESPN and Newsweek about 25 years in WWE.

John Cena spoke to Men's Journal.

Velveteen Dream responded to allegations he shared explicit photos with minors. I really hope his version of events is accurate.

WWE's stock grew almost 15% after their conference call. Things look good for future quarters as more valuable TV deals kick in.

Friday Night Smackdown has announced:
- Dolph Ziggler vs. Otis in a Money in the Bank qualifying match
- Mandy Rose vs. Carmella in a Money in the Bank qualifying match
- Daniel Bryan vs. King Corbin

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. They haven't been forgotten about and are still considered upcoming Hall of Famers.

2. Given the threats made on Russo's life by Cornette, hopefully Jim would be taken into custody before he entered the room. I fully expect Cornette would look to get physical immediately, which is honestly pretty pathetic.

Nothing to add to 3.

4. WWE will undoubtedly address the title situation. He was only signed to do a few appearances, notably Summerslam in Boston. We'll see if that ends up happening. As for Fury, he was only signed for the one appearance.

5. ESPN and FS1 paid for the content they got, not original content. It already got WWE in front of an audience that wasn't already watching the company on those channels at those times.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Main Event and Friday Night Smackdown Reax - 4/24/20

Friday, April 24, 2020

Coronavirus-related wrestling updates, Cody trademarks WWE name, assorted wrestling press, Dynamite+NXT audiences, podcat notes, new Jericho trademark, new Dark Order member, and Questions on WWE autobiographies, Angle wrestling again, underrated promoters, and Velvet McIntyre in the HoF

Coronavirus-related wrestling updates:
- DDT's Peter Pan event will be rescheduled. It had been set for June 7.

- Insane Clown Posse has canceled The Gathering of the Juggalos. We're in a surreal time with juggalos taking health precautions!

- Diamond Dallas Page appeared on CNN to say he will not currently reopen his yoga studio despite Georgia relaxing regulations.

- WWE names are appearing in NFL's Draft-A-Thon to raise money for charity. Seth Rollins, King Corbin, The Miz, and Titus O'Neil are all involved.

Cody has trademarked "Cody Rhodes," so I would think he and WWE have worked something out for him to use that name again.

Ivan Koloff musical "Rockquiem For A Wrestler" will be streamed June 13.

Triple H has gotten a "signature" championship.

WrestleMania's Boneyard match has a commemorative plaque.

Dynamite drew 731,000 viewers this week, a decent jump from last week.

NXT drew 665,000 viewers this week, slightly down from last week.

Marty Scurll will be ROH's first podcast guest Monday. He's set to go into his backstage position, AEW, and more. An ROH podcast makes sense.

Dean Malenko is on the latest AEW Unrestricted podcast.

Mandy Rose is on Vickie Guerrero's latest podcast.

Chris Jericho has trademarked "Flim Flam," his latest hip, relevant meme.

Dustin Rhodes and Billy Gunn will be in a movie together.

The Dark Order has officially added Preston Vance. He's made a few AEW appearances and it looks like more are coming.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Honestly, Mike Chioda given his tenure there. And maybe Kassius Ohno? I expect a lot of the names involved still have chapters to write in the business.

2. I wouldn't rule it out if the right opportunity arises and he gets the itch again. I'm sure there's someone else he'd like to work with.

3. Vincent Kennedy McMahon. No one's done what he's done as long or on as big of a stage.

Nothing to add to 4.

5. No. I'd think she'd be more likely for the legacy wing.

More wrestling tomorrow.

WWE Q1 2020 Reax

Read on for my thoughts on yesterday's WWE financial news.

Assorted wrestling press, Elias update, Chioda comments on release, Interviews with Dakota/Bianca/Mandy/Britt/Allin, Impact signing, Impact interviewer identity, DSOTR+FS1 ratings, more Japan cancelations, Gronk title update, Dynamite+NXT announcements, and Questions on fans watching grappling, AJ main eventing WM36, AEW signing more WWE names, and Roman's WWE status

Triple H will get a Best of WWE compilation on WWE Network Tuesday, as well as a special with Lemmy Kilmister.

WWE Network's Android app has been updated.

Tessa Blanchard addressed missing Rebellion. I'm very curious what this will mean for the world title and for her push in general.

Elias suffered storyline injuries to his larynx and fingers due to King Corbin. So, he could miss the next Smackdown.

Rey Mysterio will be on "The Bump" next week.

Mike Chioda addressed his WWE release: Tweet 1 Tweet 2 That's a classy farewell. I'd like to see him in the WWE Hall of Fame at some point.

Dakota Kai spoke to Sports Illustrated, CBS Sports, and Sporting News before NXT. I've enjoyed her run as a heel.

Impact has signed Dave Penzer to again be ring announcer.

Impact's new interviewer Gia Miller is Alabama's Georgia Milton.

"Dark Side of the Ring" drew 221,000 for its Dino Bravo episode.

Titus O'Neil and NFL's Jameis Winston donated a combined $50,000 to a local ministry. He does great work!

Ronda Rousey's WWE 24 special drew 214,000 viewers on FS1.

Becky Lynch's memorable moments special drew 299,000 viewers on FS1.

Bianca Belair spoke to Muscle & Fitness.

Mandy Rose discussed her Otis storyline and more.

Britt Baker is on the latest Talk is Jericho.

Darby Allin spoke to Sports Illustrated before Dynamite.

Pro Wrestling NOAH has canceled its May events due to COVID-19.

Luchadores got press for making COVID-19 masks. That's clever!

"Dark Side of the Ring" is being greenlit for future episodes. I really hope there's enough content for it to feel worth that extension.

- Extended cuts of the Chris Benoit and Dino Bravo episodes will air on April 27 and April 28 respectively.

Rob Gronkowski confirmed his 24/7 Championship status with his NFL return. There's potential for a lot of fun content here.

Dynamite has announced:
- Jon Moxley appearing
- Brodie Lee vs. Marko Stunt
- Jimmy Havoc and Kip Sabian vs. Best Friends in a no DQ, no countout match.
- Cody vs. Darby Allin in the TNT Championship tournament
- Lance Archer vs. Dustin Rhodes in the TNT Championship tournament

Masked Republic has relaunched Lucha Central's website. Further digital content is coming under that name.

NXT has announced:
- Charlotte Flair vs. Mia Yim
- Keith Lee vs. Damian Priest for the North American Championship

ROH is launching a Zoom trivia series, which will include ROH personalities playing along. ROH is doing its best to stay topical while its shows are on hold.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I concur that fans watch wrestling for exciting flashy moments more than technical ability. We see the same thing with NASCAR fans just wanting to see crashes, hockey fans just wanting to see fights, and so on.

2. I suppose so! You might have to give him an asterisk given the situation, however.

3. I do see more former WWE names going to AEW in the summer and beyond, and it should help them "compete" to a degree. They're still quite a ways from where Raw and Smackdown are, but they've established a pretty good start for themselves.

4. It's not really "walking out" when you've been given permission to miss the show(s)…

5. No, because I would know WWE always does that for talents who aren't going to be part of current storylines.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Assorted wrestling press, wrestling passings, released name in Raw script, Vince facing lawsuit over XFL, WWE faces anonymous complaint, released stars' next moves, Gronkowski returning to NFL, Raw audience, Interviews with Callihan/Bucks/Dustin Rhodes, MLW digitizing old series, new Rebellion match, and Questions on Ronda's comments, WrestleMania's length changing, and WWE TV with no crowd

Drew McIntyre homaged Shawn Michaels at the end of Raw. It looks like he's able to let loose and have fun; it's good to see.

Triple H will be on the next "After The Bell."

Memphis worker Travis Scott Bowden has passed away just short of turning 49. PWInsider and F4WOnline remembered him.

- AEW noted his passing.

Sarah Logan was originally scheduled to be part of Raw despite being released. She is still in the non-compete phase of her deal, so WWE can continue to use her in the meantime. We'll see if she ends up appearing on TV again.

XFL commissioner Oliver Luck is suing Vince McMahon for wrongful termination, asking to be paid for the remainder of his contract.

- Vince McMahon's attorney responded, disputing the allegations. This could get pretty rocky.

WWE is the recipient of a public complaint from an alleged employee asking for tapings to be shut down. This employee claims he is being forced to work under conditions that violate social distancing guidelines and further claims fearing reprisal if this issue is brought up to WWE officials.

- WWE issued a statement responding to the complaint. We'll see if any action comes of it.

The Revival tweeted a video with "Fear The Revolt."

- The Revolt is also the name of a North Carolina independent team, who are taking exception to the former Revival potentially using that name.

The Colons have been booked for Legends of the Ring on October 3 in New Jersey as themselves and Los Matadores.

WWE Network has added a Takeover compilation.

WWE Shop has added Zubaz designs. What year is it???

Booker T. discussed Howard Finkel on his latest podcast.

Rob Gronkowski is returning to the NFL as part of a trade. He still had a year left on his contract.

- WWE tweeted with the idea he is still part of the roster. We'll see what comes out of that.

The Bump featured Triple H, Daniel Bryan, Nia Jax, Dolph Ziggler, Brie Bella, and Drake Maverick.

Wrestlenomics looked at WWE's layoffs.

WWE Ride Along this weekend will feature The Street Profits in one car and Mandy Rose and Otis in another.

Smackdown's "hacker" has started a Twitter account.

Sami Callihan spoke before Rebellion. I'm really interested to see what's next for him.

EC3 teased a new character. I expect we'll see him on TV again in 2020.

The Young Bucks spoke to Sports Illustrated about BTE hitting 200 episodes. Good to see they're now realizing the realities of running a broadcast wrestling product.

Dustin Rhodes spoke to TVInsider before Dynamite. I'm glad he's had this crowning final chapter to his career.

MLW's Underground series is being digitized. It's unknown what the next steps are for the footage.

Jazzy Gabert's first post-WWE match was released on YouTube.

Former WWF official Billy Caputo passed away at 72. PWInsider remembered his career.

Rebellion Night Two has added Joey Ryan vs. Cousin Jake. The world championship situation will also be addressed. I can't help but think Ken Shamrock will challenge Michael Elgin after Ken beat Callihan.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Frankly I think Ronda was just having fun stirring up talk about her future. As for her WWE deal, it's for one year as a wrestler and two as an ambassador with the option to wrestle further.

2. This is more of a political question than a wrestling one, honestly, so I'm skipping it.

3. I absolutely preferred two four hour shows, but I can't help but think things will be back to their usual length next year. Vince likes his biggest show to be, well, the biggest show.

4. That's been in the works for months on the Raw side and to a degree on the Smackdown side. I saw it as Paul Heyman and Bruce Prichard being able to set directions and let them play out. I do think being able to tape things in groups was a factor, too, but I largely have seen it as a result of Vince being focused on the XFL's launch. I wouldn't be surprised if things start to revert to how they were now that the XFL is done.

5. Let's be honest. WWE would be skewered for piping in an audience when it's clear there's not an audience in attendance.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Rebellion Night One Reax

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Impact Wrestling special event.

Tuesday, April 21, 2020

FS1 content, assorted wrestling press, Interviews with David Finlay/McIntyre/Prinze/Mickie, Kassius' next move, another MLW content deal, Rock producing wrestling show, MITB match official, and Questions on yearly releases, future Boneyard style matches, NXT downside guarantees, and ROH's vision for honor

FS1's April 28 WWE content will feature:

- WWE Backstage at 11:00

NJPW has released a free match between Hiromu Takahashi and Yoshinobu Kanemura.

David Finlay is on NJPW's latest podcast.

Kassius Ohno announced the return of Chris Hero. I'm really curious what's next for him.

MLW will air Fusion in Mauritius, an East African country with about 1.3 million people.

The Rock will produce a backstage wrestling themed series for HBO. Interesting idea.

Sami Zayn had his wisdom teeth removed. I sympathize!

R-Truth released a music video.

Dan Matha had a serious car crash before his NXT release. OUCH.

Dick Steinborn was remembered by Slam! Wrestling.

Mickie James spoke on TSN.

Money in the Bank has added Drew McIntyre vs. Seth Rollins for the WWE Championship.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. There had been something of a tradition in years past, but we hadn't seen it in a while. This one was definitely COVID-related.

2 was specifically for them.

3. I certainly wouldn't rule out more cinematic experiences from him, though a large part of having Undertaker on the show is to get more tickets sold and having him not physically appear at WrestleMania would cut into that.

4. I was under the impression they did, but maybe some of the trainees don't.

5. I expect some of the more long-term ROH fans do, though I'd think a lot of them have moved to NXT or AEW.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Alexa Bliss spoke to Sports Illustrated regarding her eating disorder and more.

Stone Cold paid tribute to Howard Finkel.

WWE Network's WWF Superstars episode additions go from December 1992 to March 1993.

Coronavirus-related wrestling updates:
- WWE has a number of talents not from Florida staying there rather than traveling back and forth for tapings.

- Sports Illustrated covered the effects on indie wrestlers.

Zebra Kid was remembered.

The IWTV streaming service will feature Sendai Girls content as well as a joint series with Shimmer, Rise, and Smash Wrestling.

WWE referee Jack Lotz passes away at 86. PWInsider remembered his career.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. They're technically still under contract for those 90 days. A talent can waive that period if they so choose, and it's possible

2. I did a whole rundown of this. In short, I expect EC3, Rusev, and the Good Brothers to come out of this pretty well, and it wouldn't shock me to see some of the others have good runs post-WWE, too.

3. Well, they're usually caught vulnerable and by surprise and not really in the best position to do something like that against a fresh, motivated opponent.

4. Their TV deals are by far the biggest source of revenue. They could very well still have a record year now that they've made roster cuts to offset those missed shows.

5. I fully expect multiple released names to pop up in AEW, Impact, and ROH.

More wrestling tomorrow.

NXT release, Interview with Mandy/Rinku/Kanellis/Baker, Smackdown audience, AEW star teases retirement, Hawkins' wife discusses release, coronavirus-related wrestling updates, wrestling competition show coming?, XFL collapse story, UK wrestling school closes, Dynamite adds segment, and Questions on WWE's restaurant and AXXESS returning

Kassius Ohno has been released by WWE. It's clear they weren't doing a lot with him, and if he wasn't going to become a coach or whatever it was probably time.

Mandy Rose spoke to Jim Varsallone.

Smackdown drew 2.19 million viewers this week.

Dustin Rhodes has pledged to retire if he loses on Dynamite this week. That would be very anticlimactic. Retiring to Lance Archer on the other hand...

Curt Hawkins' wife discussed his release. Sounds like he's been an inspiration to others in the process.

Coronavirus-related wrestling updates:
- The coronavirus' effects on wrestling were covered in Massachusetts.

- WWE superstars are scheduled for the Live Global Citizen concert.

- Xavier Woods spoke about the pandemic with Neil deGrasse Tyson.

"Pro Wrestling Has Talent" has been trademarked in Florida. That sounds like a reality competition.

NXT's Rinku discussed his journey to WWE.

Mike Kanellis discussed his WWE release. He's handling it with class.

The XFL's collapse was covered by Sports Business Daily.

OTT has closed its wrestling school due to a dispute with their landlord.

Britt Baker got press in Bleacher Report. I've liked her work but "Wrestling's Top New Heel" is a little much. This was a good luck at AEW's creative freedom, though. There's a team there that wants everyone to succeed.

Dynamite has added Matt Hardy appearing from The Hardy Compound. OOF.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
Nothing to add to 1, 2, or 3.

4. Not anytime soon, given the expenses involved. Even if it wasn't for COVID-19, it didn't look like a strong possibility.

5. It's possible, if they do the Hall of Fame at Summerslam as rumored.

More wrestling tomorrow.

WWE taping changes, coronavirus-related wrestling updates, Impact taping update, MITB updates, more on WWE furloughs and releases, XFL bankruptcy notes, WWE lawsuit notes, Lawler line dropped from replay, Austin Theory update, another UFC name teases WWE run, assorted wrestling notes, AJ Styles discusses OC releases, Interviews with QT/Dustin Rhodes/Helms/Reigns, released stars on Pro Wrestling Tees, Smackdown preview, and Questions on Summerslam's status and WWE honoring Finkel

Coronavirus-related wrestling updates:
- WWE's planned move to live TV was a result of contracts limiting the number of taped episodes a year. There was concern their TV partners would try to renegotiate their content deals if shows continued to be taped in advance. WWE is still very much a TV business first and foremost, and that's only exacerbated with not running shows in front of paying audiences.

- Jerry Lawler's return to WWE TV was something he personally requested despite the risks involved with his age and history of heart issues. I really, really hope that's the right move for him.

- Japan's meeting for benefits was largely a result of wrestlers being classified as contractors rather than employees, and thus not offered the same protections as those in other businesses. Companies are looking at doing paid shows on social media as well as creating programs where fans can donate ticket refunds to charitable organizations.

- AAA will run empty arena shows on Facebook and YouTube for four straight weeks beginning April 25. The shows will feature Lucha Fighter tournaments.

- NJPW is continuing to pay contracted talent and staff despite not running shows.

- ROH is paying everyone scheduled to be part of their April and May shows as if the shows were taking place. That includes ring crew, camera operators, and so on. Very good to see that happening.

- Impact has taped content through the middle of July. That had to be incredibly tough on the wrestlers, especially with some names not there due to travel restrictions. Tessa Blanchard missed the shows of her own volition, which REALLY puts the company in a bind.

- Dynamite was scheduled to run California on May 20 and June 10.

- Money In The Bank's WWE HQ matches have already been taped. The surreal conditions continue.
- R-Truth took part in a WHO charity endeavor with Facebook Gaming.

- Cameo held an event with various wrestling personalities.

- Impact is creating more "#URtheIMPACT" videos.

WWE furloughed the producers covered recently, rather than releasing them outright. With no live events running, there was less need for a large staff in that department.

NXT releases only have 30 day non-compete clauses. That makes sense given their lower downside guarantees.

XFL's parent company filed for bankruptcy, so there aren't any plans for Alpha Entertainment to continue with another non-WWE venture.

- Vince McMahon personally loaned the company millions of dollars in addition to funds already allocated to Alpha Entertainment for the league.

WWE stockholders' lawsuit against Vince McMahon regarding the XFL was dismissed. I can't say I'm surprised that didn't get nearly as much press as the lawsuit being filed did.

Jerry Lawler's "ramen noodle moonsault" line from Raw was edited off the Hulu replay. Jerry remaining on commentary continues to look out of place in 2020.

Austin Theory is on Raw as a regular due to his work in his current angle. That's big!

UFC's Colby Covington is interested in coming to WWE in 2021. I swear everyone thinks they can transition just like that. We'll see.

The Big Show Show hit third on Netflix's most watches series list.

Madison Square Garden paid tribute to Howard Finkel. Awesome to see.

AJ Styles discussed Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows' WWE releases on his Mixer channel. WWE outbid AEW to sign them to lucrative, long-term deals, so they were easy targets for cuts. I don't expect them to be lacking for work going forward. It does suck they were finally clicking in WWE before this.

Drew McIntyre appeared on ESPN. He's already probably topped all of Brock's career media appearances!

WWE is selling replicas of The Rock's "Brahma Bull" Championship, which was going to be an answer to Stone Cold's Smoking Skull title.

Matt Striker is competing in FOX's "Labor of Love," a dating show for a woman seeking to have a kid.

QT Marshall is on Justin Roberts' latest AEW podcast.

Dustin Rhodes is on the latest AEW Unrestricted podcast.

Shane Helms discussed his furlough on Busted Open Radio.

Roman Reigns spoke to Muscle & Fitness.

Sylvain Grenier has removed himself from WWE's concussion lawsuit. There is still movement to get the dismissal reversed. It's a shame such a fraudulent endeavor is continuing to eat up resources.

WWE's ice cream sandwiches have hit Walmart.

Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows' "Talkin Shop" podcast has returned. They're already making moves!

Pro Wrestling Tees has new stores for The Good Brothers, Heath Slater (now Heath Miller), Curt Hawkins (now Brian Myers), and No Way Jose (now Levis Valenzuela). Additionally, Lio Rush, EC3, Rockstar Spud, and Deonna Purrazzo have reopened their stores.

WWE has greatly adjusted their taping schedule:
- April 20: Raw (live)
- April 22: NXT (live)
- April 23: Smackdown (live)
- April 25: Smackdown (May 1 and May 8 episodes)
- April 27: Raw (April 27 and May 4 episodes)
- April 29: NXT (April 29 and May 6 episodes)
- May 10: Money in the Bank (live)
- May 11: Raw (May 11 episode) and Smackdown (May 15 episode)
- May 12: Raw (May 18 episode) and Smackdown (May 22 episode)
- May 13: NXT (May 13 and May 20 episodes)
- May 15: Raw (May 25 and June 1 episodes)
- May 26: Smackdown (May 29 and June 5 episodes)
- May 27: NXT (May 27 and June 3 episodes)
- June 8: Raw (June 8 episode) and Smackdown (June 12 episode)
- June 9: NXT (June 10 episode)
- June 15: Raw (June 15 episode), Smackdown (June 19 episode)
- June 16: Raw (June 22 episode), Smackdown (June 26 episode)
- June 17: NXT (June 17 and June 24 episodes)
- June 29: Raw (June 29 and July 6 episodes)
- June 30: Smackdown (July 3 and July 10 episodes)
- July 1: NXT (July 1 and July 8)
-- This move is so talent and staff don't have to travel every week.

WWE Backstage will feature an all-female panel this week, with Beth Phoenix joining Paige, Renee Young, and Ember Moon.

Money In The Bank has added:
- Braun Strowman vs. Bray Wyatt for the Universal Championship
- Bayley vs. Tamina for the Smackdown Women's Championship

Smackdown has announced:
- Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross vs. Dana Brooke and Carmella for the Women's Tag Team Championship
- Baron Corbin vs. Drew Gulak in a Money in the Bank qualifying match
- Sasha Banks vs. Lacey Evans in a Money in the Bank qualifying match

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Yes, the Muscle & Fitness interview was in the can a while.

2. He was still employed on April 17.

3. No because the show is still currently in the cards. Until an official announcement of it being canceled, no refund is coming.

4. Honestly there aren't many people who would qualify for it.

5. I don't expect it given how far off that looks to be.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Main Event and Friday Night Smackdown Reax - 4/17/20

Read on for my thoughts on yesterday's Main Event and Friday Night Smackdown.

Interviews with Gulak/Mandy/Lio/Schiavone, team name trademarked, Revival trademark, NXT name change, assorted wrestling press, WWE releases note, Dynamite+NXT audiences, next classic Network content, and an NXT live event postponement

Drew Gulak is on the latest "After The Bell" podcast.

"The Conquistadors" has been trademarked by Robert Meyer of Pennsylvania for wrestling purposes. We'll see what that ends up referring to.

Mandy Rose is on Maria Menounos' latest podcast.

The Revival could be known as The Revolt going forward, as the former Dash Wilder trademarked the name "Fear The Revolt." That's a pretty good name. Much better than Cash Wheeler and Dax Hardwood.

Killer Kross has been renamed Karrion Kross. WWE Shop has his first T-shirt. I'm liking his run already.

- Timothy Thatcher has his first T-shirt available as well.

WWE's Wednesday releases all include 90-day no-compete clauses.

Seth Rollins has a "Best Of Tyler Black" DVD from his AAW Pro days on Highspots.com.

Goldberg has a Best of collection on WWE Network. Amazing they had almost three hours of matches given how quick they usually are!

Lio Rush spoke to Chris Van Vliet before his WWE release.

Dynamite drew 683,000 viewers this week despite having an AEW Championship grudge match in the main event. Certainly a lot of that can be attributed to coronavirus coverage, though it's still notable they've slid so much.

NXT drew 692,000 viewers this week, almost dead even with last week. They're also battling COVID-19 coverage.

"WWF Superstars" episodes from 1992 and 1993 will be added to WWE Network soon.

Mike Kanellis (now Mike Bennett) and Drake Maverick (now Rockstar Spud) have opened Pro Wrestling Tees stores.

NXT has postponed their May 30 Florida live event to July 25.

Tony Schiavone streamed a live Q&A with AEW.

More wrestling coming up.

WWE Network has added The Best of Howard Finkel.

Jim Cornette discussed Finkel on his latest podcast.

Arda Ocal wrote a piece remembering Finkel.

Lots of great memories and stories told here. A truly great man has passed.

WWE announces releases and furloughs

Vince McMahon initiated a conference call with WWE employees, announcing there would be a slew of layoffs and furloughs in the company, as well as cutbacks in pay for executives and board members as a result of COVID-19. That should tell you how major missing WrestleMania was for the company.

WWE's planned headquarters move has been postponed. That was going to be a major undertaking, so that's not something they want to jump into with an uncertain financial future.

WWE put out a press release before beginning layoffs. It sounds like the building move was the biggest concern.

WWE announced the following superstar releases, covered in the order they were confirmed:
- Drake Maverick, who tweeted about the release
-- I feel sorry for Drake. He seemed like a natural fit as a character and/or a manager on Raw or Smackdown. I think he did well in any capacity. I hope he's able to show his personality in other roles elsewhere.

- EC3, who tweeted about the release
-- I REALLY feel sorry for EC3. He worked his ass off to get back in WWE and didn't get any momentum going. Great character, great look. I hope he's able to show what he's capable of elsewhere, because he got lost in the shuffle in WWE.

- Lio Rush, who tweeted about the release
-- A little bit of a surprise given how he turned his life around and showed so much potential. I think he'll be able to rebound. If he can have a long run somewhere, he could very well come back even better.

- Karl Anderson
-- I didn't see this one coming given the lengths WWE went to to re-sign him and Luke. It would make sense for AJ to drop them after the loss to Undertaker, though. I expect the Good Brothers will be picked up pretty much as soon as they're available. They've still got things to contribute to the business.

- Curt Hawkins, who tweeted about the release and the release of Heath Slater
-- Yeah can't be surprised by this one. I don't think anyone would argue he was someone they really were going to miss three years from now. I'd be a little surprised to see him sign somewhere else; it feels like he's had a good run on TV.

- Luke Gallows
-- See Karl Anderson.

- Eric Young
-- Young seemed like a natural fit to transition to producer or coach, but when cuts needed to be made, I can see how he was an obvious one.

- Heath Slater, who tweeted about the release
-- I've always found Heath very entertaining and think he was underutilized as a character. I hope we see more from him on a big stage.

- Sarah Logan
-- This one made sense, as she hadn't really made a name for herself in the company yet. I could see Impact or ROH picking her up to have a consistent run.

- Primo
-- Frankly, it was time. He and Epico hadn't been used in forever and that wasn't likely to change.

- Epico
-- See Primo.

- Erick Rowan
-- I'm a bit surprised here, since they had done so much with his character. That said, it could be that after the loss to Drew that run was over and it was just a matter of time. Not sure what's next for him at 38.

- Mike Kanellis, who tweeted about the release
-- Yeah no complaints here. I almost expect him to end up back in Impact or ROH. I've always been underwhelmed by him, but he's apparently pretty well connected to keep getting hired.

- Zack Ryder, who tweeted about the release
-- After so many years in WWE, this was kind of expected. It's not like he was going to get another big push with so many other talented people making their ways through the pipeline. I think he can still contribute to the business, though. I hope we get to see that.

- No Way Jose, who tweeted about the release
-- Can't really be surprised here. His character had a shelf life and didn't really fit in with the other stars they're signing these days. We'll see if he can recreate himself elsewhere.

- Rusev, who tweeted about the release
-- I'm already ready to see what he does come July. He's really someone who can have a great second act. People want to support him doing what he does best.

WWE announced the following producer releases and furloughs, covered in the order they were announced:
- Billy Kidman

- Irwin R. Schyster

- Fit Finlay, who tweeted about the release

- Pat Buck, who tweeted about the release

- Shawn Daivari

- Scott Armstrong, who tweeted about the release

- Sarah Stock

- Shane Helms, who tweeted about the release , twice

- Lance Storm, who tweeted about the release

- Kurt Angle, who tweeted about the release
-- Honestly he probably had a pretty big salary to not wrestle.

WWE announced the following additional releases, covered in the order they were announced:
- Aiden English

- Mike Chioda

- Maria Kanellis, who tweeted about the release
-- I didn't expect them to fire someone on maternity leave. I also don't think she had much to contribute.

- Kendo Kashin

- Ace Steel

- Serena Deeb

- Josiah Williams, who tweeted about the release

WWE announced the following Performance Center releases, covered in the order they were announced:
- Deonna Purrazzo, who tweeted about the release
-- Deonna's good. I hope she can show that somewhere else, as she wasn't getting much traction in the crowded WWE talent pool.

- Aleksandar Jaksic, who tweeted about the release

- MJ Jenkins, who tweeted about the release

- Dan Matha

- Nick Ogarelli, who tweeted about the release

- Taynara

- Cezar Bononi

- Mars Wang

- Tino Sabbatelli

- Kassius Ohno
-- He was getting to that point. They weren't doing much with him and seemingly already had enough producers and coaches.

- Mohamed Fahim

- Marcos Gomes

- Faisal Kurdi

- Edgar Lopez

- Hussain Aldagal

- Rocky

-- Honestly they probably could have dropped a good deal more from the active roster and trainees and not skipped a beat. They're paying a lot of people on a lot of contracts.

WWE also released writer Andrew Listenberger, who had been working on the Mandy Rose/Otis storyline. She tweeted about the release. That should say something about how important WWE sees that angle.

Others commented on the wave of releases:
- Natalya Tweet 1 Tweet 2 Tweet 3

- Dolph Ziggler

Coronavirus-related wrestling updates:
- The Undertaker is auctioning a fan experience to benefit COVID relief.

Japanese wrestling representatives met with Japanese a politician with wrestling ties regarding assistance for the effects of COVID-19. NJPW, Stardom, All Japan, NOAH, DDT, TJP, and Diana were all accounted for in the meeting with Hiroshi Hase, the former minister of education, culture, sports, science, and technology. Wrestling companies asked for financial assistance as well as virus testing kits.

- The Daily Show covered WWE being declared essential.

Booker T. and Christian discussed Ronda Rousey's recent comments

AJ Styles has a WWE Network compilation of best matches from his run in the company.

MLW CEO Court Bauer discussed coronavirus precautions:
- I would absolutely watch desert matches.

- MLW sounds very well prepared in general.

- Very fascinating words about the pros of being a smaller company.

- I would be very surprised to see live TV phased out for WWE.

Lacey Evans and Montel Williams are collaborating for Military Makeover. That's really cool.

WWE Backstage drew 161,000 viewers with Edge and C.M. Punk. That's much better than some previous entries.

WWE's Ruthless Aggression episodes drew:
- 224,000 at 8:00 p.m.
- 302,000 at 9:00 p.m.
- 226,000 at 10:00 p.m.

Dark Side of the Ring focusing on Jimmy Snuka and Nancy Argentino drew 209,000 viewers.

Dynamite has announced:
- Sammy Guevara vs. Darby Allin in the TNT Championship tournament
- Kip Sabian vs. Dustin Rhodes in the TNT Championship tournament
- Jimmy Havoc vs. Orange Cassidy
- Kenny Omega in action
- Brodie Lee in action

NXT has announced:
- El Hijo del Fantasma vs. Jack Gallagher in the interim cruiserweight championship tournament
- Kushida vs. Tony Nese in the interim cruiserweight championship tournament
- Drake Maverick (who will be allowed to complete this tournament before his release) vs. Jake Atlas in the interim cruiserweight championship tournament
- Finn Balor vs. Velveteen Dream

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. In that very unlikely scenario, I think WWE will continue to be grateful to have Rock appear for them as Rock appearing helps WWE a lot more than it helps Dwayne.

2. I don't expect him to appear before WWE is back running arenas, unless it's via video to set up something for when he is able to physically be present again.

3. She's having fun with it, so I expect it's at least partially in character.

4. I expect crowds will return slowly, as some will remain cautious. It will be interesting to see either way.

5. Certainly the visa situation made Charlotte winning more likely, but it's possible they would have added more star power to NXT even if Rhea could keep working.

More wrestling coming up.

Double or Nothing will not take place in Nevada as scheduled. It will still be live and on PPV.

- Tickets for the event will be honored at Double or Nothing 2021, announced for May 29, 2021.

- Dynamite on May 27 will also not take place in Nevada. There are currently no plans for a Nevada Dynamite following Double or Nothing 2021.

Vince McMahon will advise Donald Trump on when to reopen the U.S. economy. That piece of news would blow people's minds ten years ago. McMahon joins other major sports executives with that duty.

WWE faced a number of calls to shut down the Performance Center before Florida's governor amended his essential businesses list to include them. Linda McMahon's super PAC donated $18.5 million to Florida the same day of this amendment. That also sounds like a storyline come to life.

- ROH and MLW issued statements regarding their own status in the wake of this change. Both companies already had plans regarding content.

Alexa Bliss responded to Ronda Rousey's recent comments. She brings up good points.

Christian discussed a WWE return. I really don't see it happening.

WWE did some COVID-19 PSAs.

Will Ospreay discussed Seth Rollins, C.M. Punk, and more. Classy response to the Seth issue; I'm glad he squashed the beef.

Rebellion's April 21 episode will feature:
- Sami Callihan vs. Ken Shamrock
- Ace Austin vs. Willie Mack
- Kylie Rae vs. Kiera Hogan
- Rhino and Tommy Dreamer vs. Jake Crist and Dave Crist

Rebellion's April 28 episode will feature:
- Chris Bey vs. Suicide vs. Trey vs. Rohit Raju

Jim Cornette has trademarked that name, which is a little strange since it's his legal name.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Wrestling doesn't usually get a lot of coverage anyway, it was an unnamed non-wrestler, and proper precautions were taken.

2. It definitely feels like something's brewing there.

Nothing to add to 3.

4. Potentially, though ultimately it was going to take more than being legitimately tough to make Dr. Death a star.

5. Yes, that was very dumb on both men's parts.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Network content no longer free, assorted wrestling press, Rebellion air date, XFL goes bankrupt, NJPW open letter, WWE cleared to tape, NXT match set, Raw MITB qualifiers, and Questions on Taz's future, cursing on WWE PPV, NXT being hurt by replays, dodging WWE trademarks, and XFL's sudden failure

"Fight Like A Girl" has debuted on Quibi.

Corey Graves toured Ronda Rousey's ranch.

Rebellion will air as the April 21 and April 28 episodes of Impact. That makes sense.

"The Main Event" was on Netflix's Top 10.

XFL has filed for bankruptcy and is now for sale. They still intend to refund all ticket sales.

- XFL released a statement to TMZ Sports.

- XFL was said to have lost tens of millions of dollars in revenue due to the season cancelation.

NJPW President Harold Meij issued an open letter on the canceled shows.

WWE has been designated an essential business in Florida, allowing them to continue to create content there.

AEW thanked first responders.

NXT has announced Finn Balor vs. Fabian Aichner. That's a good way to continue the build to Finn vs. Walter.

Raw has announced:
- Rey Mysterio vs. Buddy Murphy in a Money in the Bank qualifying match
- Aleister Black vs. Austin Theory in a Money in the Bank qualifying match
- MVP vs. Apollo Crews in a Money in the Bank qualifying match

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I'm not familiar with any news on this front.

2. It's possible it's just a byproduct of not having crowd noise to cover it up, but it could also be a move to be seen as less overly family friendly.

3. I'm sure that plays some role. I don't expect WWE Network to drop it, thoug.

4. I don't expect they'll risk WWE taking them to court. "#FTR" could end up being their team name, with Shatter Machine also an option, since they've trademarked both.

5. It does feel pretty sudden after they had announced they were planning to return in 2021. Frankly it could have been hyperbole to make a juicier story.

More wrestling tomorrow.

-- Akira Tozawa
-- Jack Gallagher

Becky Lynch spoke about WrestleMania and more.

Charlotte Flair discussed media coverage of women's sports with the Women's Sports Foundation.

Jay Lethal did a watch along for his 2005 Pure Championship win.

Ronda Rousey is not returning to WWE right now, despite stirring things up online. We'll see if that changes, as there's clearly some level of interest after her recent comments.

Ricky Morton's son entering wrestling got press.

Toronto's wrestling history was covered.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. There wasn't much of a firm timeline on when they were going to return there. I expect it's still months off, as there are only two shows per year on the current deal.

Nothing add to 2.

3.a. In this case, both of them were actually there when it was put together. That's different from their opinions on wrestling is or should be in 2020, which is where most people disagree with those two.

3.b. Those involved did some research on the subjects in question. They didn't just pick some people to say controversial things or whatever. I think it has a pretty good reputation, for good reason.

4. They have exemptions for presenting themselves as closed set TV tapings.

5. I expect he'll take some time off, but I'd be surprised if he's not back for Summerslam. I strongly doubt we've seen the last of him entirely. WWE seems content to continue to pay him handsomely for a limited schedule, and he's willing to cash those checks!

More wrestling coming up.

Interviews with Show/Rock/Goldberg, new Network content, WWE FS1 preview, UK Network sees NXT delay, new Dynamite match, cruiserweight tournament format, WWE employee tests positive for COVID-19, Ronda buries WWE, WWE statement on returning, and Questions on the status of 2020 HoFers, changing the HoF, Liger's induction, WM4 booking, and Reigns' status

Big Show discussed WWE continuing to run during the pandemic. If WWE did tape five weeks of content at a time, he could turn face and back heel again before anything aired!

WWE Network's latest "Best of WWE" features the best ten matches of the 2010s. C.M. Punk's included for his match with John Cena, and Jon Moxley and Brodie Lee appear in The Shield vs. The Wyatt Family.

The Rock did a fan Q&A on Facebook.

FS1 on Tuesday will air:
- WWE 24: Ronda Rousey
- Becky Lynch's Five Most Memorable Matches
- WWE 24: Becky Lynch

UK's WWE Network subscribers will see NXT air seven days after its U.S. debut, seemingly due to WWE's BT Sports deal. We'll see if that helps BT Sports broadcast viewership.

Dynamite has added Sammy Guevara vs. Sugar D.

NXT's Interim Cruiserweight Championship tournament will feature two four-person groups having a round robin tournament. The winners of each group will face off in the title match. If there's a tie in group standings, the lead will go to the winner of their one-on-one match. They can definitely fill a lot of content that way, and it makes things very important with everyone getting a chance.

A WWE employee tested positive for COVID-19 and has recovered fully. The individual in question has been kept away from others in WWE since the positive test. This is not a WWE superstar, but is someone who appears on-screen. I'm glad WWE has been proactive with this given the level of contagion involved.

Ricochet will be on "WWE Break It Down" on April 19.

Ronda Rousey doubled down on her wrestling criticism, taking shots at "fake fights" and the like.

- Nia Jax, Lana, Alexa Bliss, and Shayna Baszler responded. This would be a perfect time for Brawl For All 2 it sounds like.

Goldberg discussed his WrestleMania feud on CarCast. It sounds like there aren't plans for him to wrestle again in 2020. As always, that can change.

WWE issued a statement regarding returning to live tapings. I hope that direction pays off.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. It sounds like it's similar to when an inductee is announced in January for a March induction. They're pending HoFers, and it's just a matter of officially putting them in.

2. I can't argue the Legacy point. I'd also like to see more behind-the-scenes names added, even if they don't get a big speech and all that.

3. It will depend on when the ceremony is. I expect WWE will like to have him physically attend if possible.

4. That reasoning makes sense.

Nothing to add to 5.

6. I'm sure they understand why he's not there. And it doesn't make much sense to acknowledge him when they don't know when he'll be able to return. I expect he'll be coming for The Fiend and/or Braun when he does come back.

More wrestling tomorrow.
