FN gets rights to another international promotion, WWE live event notes, AJ Lee and JR book updates, Interview with Sheamus, Neville update, Rollins back in the ring, and Questions on changing titles on live events, not turning Reigns, Charlotte at Summerslam, the IC Title 4-way, and Jericho in MITB

Fight Network announced a deal to air footage from a UK promotion as they continue their expansion of wrestling content. FN is doing a great service to fans who want to sample a variety of styles of wrestling.

WWE live event notes from Wisconsin:
- Kane teamed with Big Show to beat Rowan and Strowman. Kane didn't work the previous night's live event. He's been working something of a relaxed schedule since WM32 as WWE moved to focus talent.

- Alberto Del Rio wrestled Dean Ambrose, after Y2J wrestling Ambrose the previous night. Jericho wasn't on this show. Maybe he's kind of picking his spots as this run is going longer than initally planned.

AJ Lee has finished writing her memoir. While I think her character eventually got pretty played out, the wrestling business is missing something without her.

NXT has live events set for July 14 in Indianapolis, July 15 in Cincinnati, and July 16 in Louisville. Still no announcement of a big event Summerslam weekend. Maybe they're waiting until after Takeover on the 8th?

Sheamus discussed Smackdown's move and more. I agree the brand move could really help people break out, since WWE can't rely on the same people on both shows.

Jim Ross' book is planned for a 2017 release. I can't wait for that one.

WWE's return to the Philippines is set for September 2. Neville is advertised for the event, so he's expected back by then.

Seth Rollins is returning to the ring on this weekend's live events, entering multi-man matches for the WWE Championship featuring Roman Reigns, AJ Styles, and (on one show) Sheamus.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. There are times and places when it would be OK to do a title change on live events (injuries, for instance), but generally title changes should be big enough to be seen by a much bigger audience.

2. Looks like WWE has another person vested in seeing the outcome of the Rollins/Reigns feud. I definitely think they're going to try to recreate Cena's early years as champion where he's pushed as a top name despite being booed. If Reigns continues to get big reactions and make money, he's doing his job. It's already ending up similar to Cena's push where people boo just to be contrarian. Some people never grow out of their rebellious phase.

3. I think they can do Charlotte vs. Stephanie and still have Charlotte lose the title to a "real wrestler" like Sasha. Having a McMahon in action draws in more fans than "a five-star wrestling match," so I can see why they're considering it. Especially since Stephanie has a memoir coming out in October.

4. It was a really great match with a lot of action. Everyone did their jobs well, and Miz as always deserves more credit than he gets. It's pretty much the same reason people boo Reigns and Cena, really.

5. And Jericho worked another "smart fan." He invented MITB, has been in plenty of high-profile matches, and has held many championships. He adds a lot of credibility to the match and will be able to help the newer names put together a big WWE-style ladder match. He has more experience with that than the other performers. Plus, they need an important heel involved.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Raw Reax - 5/30/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Raw.

Monday, May 30, 2016

WWE live event notes, Raw teaser, Barrett's dream opponent, and Questions on a Rollins/Reigns double term, titles post-draft, Smackdown's move targeting TNA, Jose's future, and why WWE won't do War Games

At WWE's live event in Manitoba:
- Epico, with Primo in his corner, won a singles match with Sin Cara.

- Paige/Becky/Sasha beat Summer/Lana/Dana, so Sasha's at least well enough to work a six-person tag and Lana continues to get experience.

- Y2J was the babyface in his hometown, beating Dean Ambrose.

WWE is teasing something related to a hatch happening on Raw. People are mostly thinking it's a return of the Wyatts, although some think it's related to the Elimination Chamber. I'd be interesting in either, although EC is a little played out unless there's a big feud that NEEDS it.

Wade Barrett posted a response to Cody Rhodes' post-WWE dream list. I'm DEAD.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Basically what they said. They need a REALLY good reason to turn Roman after all the work they've put into him as a face. He's putting in the work to be the next "guy," so they shouldn't pull the rug out from under him.

2. Exactly that! Same for the women's and tag team titles. When Raw has the World Title feud, Smackdown should have a big personal feud as their main event. Then a Smackdown person challenges for the World Title and Raw has the big personal feud headlining the shows. All titles need to be important.

3. Damn. Talk about a burial of TNA. The move definitely isn't a way to counter TNA. It's just much easier to run Smackdown the night after Raw instead of having people go home Monday night and come back for a live show on Thursday. I do think WWE cares about TNA in the sense they have 90-day no-compete clauses so people can't go appear on TNA or ROH TV right after leaving WWE, and I'm sure they'd love to have some current TNA names on their roster. Other than that, they're predominantly focused on what's best for WWE.

4. He doesn't need to be a serious character. He's going for the Fandango/Santino spot. It's better to have a consistent undercard role than try to compete with the seemingly endless numbers of people trying to be the best flyer or powerhouse or technician.

Nothing to really add to 5. It's hard enough to focus on things in a battle royal/Royal Rumble/Elimination Chamber. War Games matches feature a lot to keep track of.

Superstars Reax - 5/28/16, Interviews with Schiavone/Cena/AJ Styles, WWE live event notes, Cena shirt changed before release, Cody's future, and Questions on influential promoters, reuniting the Shield, HoF speeches, The Wrestler, and more vintage Network content

Superstars:
After the brand extension, they'll either make Main Event the Raw show and Superstars the Smackdown show (or vice versa), or they'll have some Raw matches and some Smackdown matches on each show. I strongly doubt the two shows will do Raw vs. Smackdown matches.

- Natalya vs. Summer:
Good action so far. I like the counter-wrestling and mat techniques.

These two always work well together, which is probably why we see this match so much.

I like the story of Summer trying to win with the Death Lock. If she doesn't get used much on the main roster, I'd love to see her take over Emma's role in NXT.

- Viktor vs. Ryder:
I'm really curious what happens to The Ascension with the brand split. I assume Konnor will be back before the draft; does WWE keep them together or decide to see what Viktor can do as a singles star? I imagine it'd be risky to keep him with someone who's one suspension away from a release.

Nice feeling out process early.

I like Viktor playing keepaway.

Viktor's showing some solid work here. Ryder's pretty much always impressive.

That was enjoyable. It had psychology and we got to see the ElBro Drop win a match.

**********NEWS BEGINS AFTER THIS LINE.**********

Tony Schiavone discussed going from pro wrestling to baseball. I'm glad he's still getting work. It's good to have a variety of places to apply your skills.

At a WWE live event in Illinois:
- Enzo Amore returned to the ring, teaming with Big Cass to beat the Dudleys. I expect to see this in some form at MITB.

- Viktor lost to Titus. It definitely looks like they're just going to keep Viktor as a singles wrestler on live events/Main Event/Superstars until Konnor returns.

- The Club beat the Hype Bros. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Mojo join Ryder on the main roster regularly after the brand extension, especially if they're going to have tag team titles on each show.

John Cena was set to debut a new shirt design, but Pabst Blue Ribbon was none too pleased with the resemblance to their logo. The design is obviously inspired by their logo, but it's different enough to pass as a parody. No one's going to expect the PG-friendly Cena to be associated with an adult beverage.

- WWE altered the design. I fully expect a Young Bucks version of the PBR shirt by the end of the week.

Cena discussed his upcoming WWE return and more, really toeing the company line.

Cody Rhodes tweeted a checklist of dream opponents to face once his no-compete clause is up. I think he's going to enjoy the freedom of the indie scene. Him heading to ROH for some of those matches would be great for them.

AJ Styles talked about working with Roman Reigns and more:
- WWE is definitely really behind AJ. It's rare anyone gets this level of push right out of the gate.

- The WM32 loss ended up not hurting him. Jericho probably needed the credibility boost more, since AJ was moving on to bigger things.

- Ding ding ding! He's spot on about the reaction to Roman. It's the same with Cena and the WWE product in general: it's edgy and rebellious to try to disrupt the system.

- It'll be interesting to see what AJ's future looks like after his in-ring days are over. His wealth of experience is going to be really valuable somewhere.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I can't say I disagree with those picks. Each man really changed what wrestling was previously.

2. It's definitely something they know can make money from. What if The Club gets involved in Reigns vs. Rollins and they decide to team up to get rid of them before continuing their own feud?

3. It depends entirely on what you want to see and whom you're a fan of. If you don't care about a certain era, promotion, or performer, you're probably not going to care as much.

4. It was definitely polarizing. I'm surprised WWE associated itself with the project given how it portrays the business. They wanted mainstream publicity, though.

5. Eventually. They can only put up so much footage at a time, and they generally focus on things with larger potential audiences. Once they get more modern stuff uploaded, they'll go back into their archives more.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Commentary change with brand split?, Cena collection coming, Wrestling shapes the world, NXT live event notes, Interviews with Dixie, Miami wants Mania, JR health note, HoFer retiring, meet CWC participant, WWE press, Smackdown audience, ROH matches set, and Questions on Mr. Anderson, WWE supporting Trump, Network residuals, and punishing Y2J for shoving a referee

Corey Graves teased coming to Smackdown. I assume he'd replace Byron Saxton on that show following the brand split. I think that'd be worth a shot. As much as I'd love for WWE to drop Lawler and JBL, I don't see them parting with experienced color commentators like that. As for what that means for NXT, I'm not sure whom they'd plug in his current spot. Matt Bloom's an interesting possibility, or one of the other trainers; I think Regal being GM and commentator would be something of a "conflict of interest."

John Cena's early career will be the focus of a WWE Network collection soon. For those who just know him as the 15-time WWE Champion, it's worth checking out his earlier days.

- The collection will feature footage of John from UPW and OVW. This is the first time anything from either former developmental territory will appear on the Network. It's possible in the future we see more former developmental content on the Network, but I don't really see a big demand for that kind of content.

The New York Times examined pro wrestling as a catalyst for reality shows and the state of modern politics. Great, great read.

Lana worked another NXT live event this week, losing in a tag match. There's speculation of a big mixed-tag coming up involving Rusev and Lana. In any case, it's good to have her training to work effectively so she can potentially be used in bigger roles.

Murphy cut a promo at an NXT live event about trying to win back Alexa Bliss. So, they're still kind of in an angle despite working separately. Blake is out with an injury.

Dixie Carter gave two interviews in India:
- TNA is looking for an Indian female wrestler and wants to talk to some amateur Olympic athletes there. That's worth a shot. India's an important emerging market for WWE and TNA.

- Dixie also wants Bollywood's Salman Khan involved in TNA in some fashion. It would make sense to use him in conjunction with TNA's tour of India whenever that happens.

Miami is looking to hold either Wrestlemania 34, 35, or 36. I agree WWE would likely aim toward Miami hosting 35 or 36 given 33 being in Orlando. I expect the next Mania in Miami will see The Rock go into the HoF, and possibly work a retirement match. He'll definitely be a big part of the show again.

Jim Ross was recently treated for skin cancer. The surgery was a success. I worry skin cancer is only going to become more prevalent in the years to come. Hopefully this is JR's last bout with it.

"Bullet" Bob Armstrong is announced for a retirement match on June 4. The HoFer is 76 and last wrestled in 2013.

CWC qualifier Drew Gulak and his brother Rory were profiled by Philly.com:
- I can only imagine the nightmares their parents went through after those brotherly fights.

- CZW sounds pretty wild, and not just for the crazy in-ring action.

- What parents let a 14- and 17-year-old train to wrestle!?

- The Amazing Gulaks gimmick sounds pretty cool, a bit like the Vaudevillains.

Summer Rae threw the first pitch at the Chicago Cubs game Friday. That's pretty cool.

Smackdown's audience Thursday was 2.11 million. I can see why they want to revamp the show come July.

Colt Cabana vs. Adam Cole is set for ROH's June 12 live event, playing off the finish to Global Wars. Hopefully we also see that at BITW unless there's something bigger planned then. That should be an important feud for the company.

ROH has a tag team tournament set for their June 11 and 12 shows, with the winners challenging for the championships at the June 25 TV taping. Round one will feature:
- Lethal/Strong vs. Briscoes vs. reDRagon
- Young/Bruiser vs. Rush/Moose vs. War Machine
- RPG Vice vs. Bucks vs. ANX.

-- The winners face off on the June 12 show.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. He's mostly been working in the UK since then, though he's also worked Ireland, Germany, and Australia.

2. I strongly doubt WWE as a company will endorse any candidate not named McMahon, especially someone as divisive as Trump. It's possible Vince endorses Trump, but I definitely don't see the company publicly supports any major candidate given how many people of the other party it could upset.

3. No one ever addressed it. It's likely there aren't many residuals to give out. The Network was a really expensive venture and a huge investment. There was a bigger pie to give a slice of when PPVs were more costly.

Nothing to add to 4.

5. Jericho, the heel, was caught up in the moment and ended the match as soon as he could so Neville could get help. The referees know how to take bumps, so it's not like he attacked someone viciously or out-of-character. They were much more concerned with Neville's health.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Draft incoming, Takeover special gets a name, more Total Divas on Network, Interviews with Sarge/Pearce/Cena, Wyatts teaser?, top UK promotion to Fight Network, WWE-Kentucky update, Beverly Dundee passes, and McMahons deposed in concussion lawsuit

WWE has confirmed a draft will determine which superstars become exclusive to Raw or Smackdown, but it's unknown how exactly this will play out. I would be surprised to see the whole roster "randomly" assigned to one show or the other. The 2002 brand extension started with each show's authority figure getting 10 alternating picks before the rest were assigned in a lottery. I expect Shane and Stephanie to try to one-up each other in similar fashion this time around.

NXT's June 8 Takeover event will be subtitled The End, perhaps deliberately vaguely to play off the brand split announcement. I expect it's just the end of Balor vs. Joe, but it's fun to get people talking. It's worth noting NXT has yet to announce a Takeover special during Summerslam weekend as has been expected. I really don't see NXT going away, though.

Total Divas Season 5 is now available on the WWE Network. Hopefully the audience for that show subscribes to the Network so it has a reach beyond traditional wrestling fans.

Sgt. Slaughter discussed his work with G. J. Joe:
- I can only imagine how this situation would be handled now, with WWE's big deal with Mattel.

- Slaughter confirmed for draw, brother.

- Cool stories of being recognized/idolized as G.I. Joe.

Adam Pearce talked about becoming a coach at the WWEPC:
- Pearce ending up in WCW would have been interesting, especially if he became a WWE wrestler later.

- Teaching psychology is HUGE. That's what turns a wrestler into a good worker.

WWE posted what might or might not be a teaser for the Wyatts returning. I expect Harper is going to remain on the shelf for a few months, but the others could make a statement as a group without him. Wyatts vs. The Club or The Bloodline could be fun feuds.

John Cena discussed The Rock's insults. Some of them were really childish (ditto for the ones Rock laid down on Punk), but the Fruity Pebbles stuff was pretty funny.

UK promotion Insane Championship Wrestling will begin airing on Fight Network soon. That's big for both sides! FN is really making waves as far as televising a variety of wrestling content. Great news for them as they continue that endeavor.

Kentucky's new wrestling commissioner discussed efforts to bring WWE to the state for TV or a PPV in April 2017. I really don't see Wrestlemania going there, but TV and PPVs are possible if the state's rules change.

Beverly Dundee, wife of Memphis legend Bill Dundee, has passed away. She was involved in a big angle with Jerry Lawler in the '70s.

Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, Triple H, and WWE doctor Chris Amann have been deposed as part of the ongoing concussion/CTE lawsuit. So, they could all be giving testimony in their defense.

More wrestling tomorrow.

ROH and Smackdown Reax - 5/26/16

Read on for my thoughts on yesterday's ROH and Smackdown.

Thursday, May 26, 2016

Brand extension returning, Smackdown going live, Interviews with Rock/Sheamus/Titus/Amell, Stevie+Veda ROH updates, Impact audience, Eden on leaving WWE, Sasha update, big NXT return coming?, NXT Women's Title picture note, and Questions on how to book the brand split, why Balor's still in NXT, the Cody-WWE situation, and AJ Styles' future

WWE is bringing back the brand extension in July, splitting crews between Monday's Raw and live Smackdowns on Tuesdays. That's HUGE news. While I'm definitely not a fan of having five to eight hours of WWE within a three day period (more for Summerslam and Wrestlemania) with no cool-off period between them and losing the TV show three days before big PPVs, that makes more sense than sending the production team and wrestlers home after Monday and bringing them back for a live Thursday show. I'm really excited about the brand extension, since that hopefully means more character development for more wrestlers, and an easier way to shuffle the deck with fresh characters and opponents. Seeing so much WWE-style wrestling so quickly back to back isn't as bad when there are different people on each show.

- Shane and Stephanie McMahon discussed the move. I full expect one side to run Raw and the other to run Smackdown. The WM32 stipulation with Shane taking control of Raw was definitely originally intended as a prelude to a brand split; that's why it wasn't phrased as taking control of WWE.

- Smackdown will air live in Canada as well, which is good news for WWE. Giving about two months of notice for the brand extension is a good idea so everyone can get their ducks in a row.

The Rock and Kevin Hart talked about John Cena's jorts and going from Rocky Maivia to The Rock. Cena's jorts are iconic at this point.

Sheamus addressed the "You Look Stupid" chants. I think it was the right move for him to embrace the chants.

Titus O'Neil discussed returning from suspension. Michael Bay needs to do a WWE movie. I think he, Vince, and Kevin Dunn would get along really well.

Stephen Amell talked about his WWE experience and potentially returning. He made the most of his opportunity last time; he respects the business and worked hard to protect it.

Stevie Richards and Veda Scott are advertised for June 3 to 5 for ROH, so Stevie could be wrestling more than once and Veda is sticking in ROH for now despite Cedric's departure.

Impact Wrestling drew 359,000 viewers this week with no replay. That's the highest audience they've gotten on Pop. Good news for TNA.

Eden discussed leaving WWE. Basically, she has other avenues to explore.

Sasha Banks was hurt on a live event recently. It's unknown how long she'll be out of the ring. She's been kept off TV lately because she could be in line for a big push in the Women's Title picture for Summerslam. I hope that's true and we don't end up with Charlotte as champion vs. Stephanie at that show.

Hideo Itami is expected to return to the ring shortly following a long recovery from shoulder surgery. I'm excited to see how he'll contribute to NXT going forward; he was still adapting to things when he got injured.

Bayley is expected to challenge for the NXT Women's Championship at the (as yet unannounced) August Takeover special. It's possible that's her last major match as an NXT superstar, but I wouldn't assume that to be the case just yet.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I agree entirely, although I think the WWE Title should be able to be on both shows (like it was originally in the earlier brand split). Beyond that, each show needs to feel important. Each roster needs character development with promos so people (generally) aren't just thrown into meaningless matches. I'd like each show to have a distinct feel as well, so we're not just getting five hours of WWE, but three hours of Raw that isn't the same as the next day's two hours of Smackdown. Oh, and if an act gets hot on Smackdown, don't immediately draft them to "the A-show." Both shows need to be A-shows, just with different rosters and styles.

2. People keep ignoring/forgetting there's a big NXT tour in the middle of June that goes through Ireland. They want Balor to work that before joining the main roster. I wouldn't be surprised if he's on WWE's tour of Japan in some form in early July, and I definitely expect him on board for the brand extension.

3. Cody Rhodes showed a lot of range as a character and a performer. He was a valuable worked for those reasons and made the most of every opportunity he had. He's exactly the kind of person grabbing the brass ring but finding himself unappreciated. I'd like to see him come back in a few years after proving himself valuable somewhere else, but I'm not holding my breath on him returning.

4. Neither. WWE knows what they've got with him. I expect him to be involved with Finn Balor in some fashion this summer.

5. I miss that show... I think people made assumptions based on Lilian not being on TV and the story took on its own life.

More wrestling tomorrow.

NXT and Main Event Reax - 5/25/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's NXT and Main Event.

Wednesday, May 25, 2016

What happened after Raw, Rollins return on WWE 24, title matches on Smackdown, Henry attending wrestling camp, Flair doc update, WWE in Philippines again, Ryback teasing TNA run, Kincaid set for another ROH show, Raw audience, Eden leaves WWE, Goldust addresses status, and Questions on beefing up Kickoff shows, bringing back the brand extension, employees vs. independent contractors, respecting Miz, and WarGames returning

After Raw went off the air, Kevin Owens cut a promo about winning MITB this year. Roman Reigns gave him a Superman Punch to conclude the taping. It was a big show of faith by Management to have Owens and Styles close the show instead of, say, Roman and Rollins.

WWE Network is airing a WWE 24 special next week centered on Seth Rollins' return. He's already positioned as an important player again. This summer should be exciting.

Rusev vs. Kalisto for the United States Championship and The Miz vs. Cesaro for the Intercontinental Championship are both set for Smackdown. I look forward to seeing those clashes.

Mark Henry is advertised for Harley Race's wrestling camp from August 22 though 26, and also as appearing at their August 27 wrestling event. Gerald Brisco and Gedo will be on hand scouting talent. I can see Henry sliding into something of an ambassador role as his in-ring career wraps up.

The Ric Flair ESPN documentary is expected to be between 90 and 120 minutes, and debuting in August. Vince McMahon, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, and Undertaker among others were interviewed for the piece.

WWE will return to the Philippines in September. That first W does stand for World, after all.

Ryback teased going to TNA. His Twitter has been a goldmine over the years. I wouldn't assume he'll actually end up in TNA, but he'd be free in plenty of time to get an important match at Bound For Glory if he doesn't get a new deal with WWE.

Jason Kincaid will also work ROH's June 4 show. We could end up seeing him regularly going forward.

Raw's audience Monday was 3.27 million, getting a bit of a boost from Extreme Rules. I hope fans liked what they saw and keep watching.

Eden Stiles has departed WWE, following in her husband Cody Rhodes' footsteps. She stated she has an opportunity outside of WWE. So, both of them will be starting a new life shortly. I wouldn't expect her to go wrestle in TNA or elsewhere; her future in the business might not be related to his.

Goldust confirmed he doesn't intend to leave WWE. Good to hear he and WWE are still on good terms as he continues his HoF-worthy career.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. The point of the Kickoff show is to give people time to get into the building and warm the crowd up for the main card. They don't want to give away anything TOO big on the show; it's basically a televised version of the Raw pre-show featuring a dark match. All that said, they frequently have title matches/grudge matches on the show, so it's hardly a throwaway endeavor.

2. Looks like this person's going to get their wish! More details tomorrow.

3. I don't even pretend to understand how WWE classifies its workers.

4. Miz has been underrated performer for years, ever since breaking out as U.S. Champion/Mr. MITB. He's an 11-year WWE veteran at this point, and is the right person to help the former indie names adapt to how the company does things.

5. Not outside of the WWE Network. It's unnecessarily complicated to set up. It's rare we get Elimination Chamber matches for the same reason.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Impact Wrestling Reax - 5/24/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's edition of Impact Wrestling.

Tuesday, May 24, 2016

Enzo note, legend battling health problems, Interviews with Charlotte/Pop president/Kane/Shane, Rose gone from WWE, ROH prospect working live event, Raw replay audience, Rollins return note, and Questions on retooling characters, stalking wrestlers, WWE names in the CWC, Bayley staying in NXT, and disciplining Lil Naitch

Enzo Amore was backstage at Extreme Rules. I imagine we'll see him in the ring at MITB, but I haven't seen anything about him being officially cleared to wrestle.

George "The Animal" Steele is recovering from some serious health issues. I wish him the best in a quick recovery.

Charlotte promoted Extreme Rules. I think the ending to the submission match was clever, and I'm looking forward to seeing what Dana's future looks like.

Pop TV's president discussed TNA's status on the channel:
- There's definitely a rush to get on the anti-TNA/hatedom bandwagon. I wish it was just a vocal minority, but a lot of people have definitely dropped TNA compared to when it was on Spike.

- It's not just a matter of how many people are watching. It's about how much ad revenue the show brings. So, I wouldn't assume TNA's going to stay just because numbers are good for Pop.

- I would think Pop would rather have people watch that Tuesday replay live than record the show later, since those people likely skip the ads. How many viewers are lost because they watched the Tuesday replay and now don't record it?

- Actually you can find +3 and +7 numbers online. They're just not considered as newsworthy.

- Even outside of wrestling people check those next day ratings for shows. It's true the delayed numbers mean more, but they're still an important topic.

- TNA's definitely blowing ROH out of the water, viewership-wise, but it's not where it was in the Spike days.

- A great number for Pop isn't necessarily a great number period, since they are a smaller network.

- Impact Wrestling has definitely been a really solid show with great talent in 2016. Obviously it hurts them to not have some of the top names anymore, but the show's hardly bad.

- Smart to not comment on what's going on with investing in TNA, since that's not really something he's working on his job.

- I'm glad we got an explanation about the upfronts.

Adam Rose has requested and received his release from WWE following his indefinite suspension. It's unfortunate his life has turned in the direction it's gone these past few months. I hope this is a step in getting things back together for himself and his family. That's much more important than his wrestling future right now.

ROH has booked 2016 TPT entrant Jason Kincaid for a June 3 live event, so we could start seeing him more regularly going forward. TPT winner Lio Rush is already being set up as an ROH regular.

Kane is "seriously considering" running for mayor in his home county in 2018. He's definitely serious in his political endeavors. It will be very interesting to see what his future holds under WWE contract (wrestling or otherwise) given this development. He's certainly given a lot to the business and has earned a next chapter in life; it's almost hard to think of the company without him.

The two-hour version of Raw on SyFy Friday night drew 467,000 viewers. It will be interesting to see how that replay affects Monday's number and if NBCU does toy with the idea of making Raw two hours on Mondays again.

Seth Rollins is indeed back full-time, beating his expected recovery time by a few months. Great to see him again.

Some notes from Shane McMahon's interview on the WWE Network:
- I can't say I expected to "never" see Shane again, but I was definitely surprised to see it happen, and I'm glad he's still around after WM32.

- Riding a motorcycle at high speeds with no helmet is definitely very dangerous. I can see why Vince was really upset.

- How crazy do you have to be to beat up the boss's son!? The business was awful behind the scenes in bygone eras. I can see why they went from "wrestlers" to entertainers after those cruel ribs.

- Starting Shane on the ring crew was the right move, so he'd appreciate what "the boys" go through.

- I can just imagine some of the Vince Sr./Vince Jr./Shane interactions.

- Dr. Tom and Al Snow are absolutely great minds for the business, even in 2016.

- Shane's work ethic was insane. He didn't need to take so many crazy bumps, but he felt he had to prove himself.

- Vince and Shane have definitely always been great as characters. They're naturals for show business.

- Vince definitely sounds like a really tough dad. At least his employees can get time away from him or go somewhere else.

- Vince certainly runs the ship his way. Even being his son can't change that.

- Taker vs. Shane was certainly a nice surprise.

- I really wonder what would have happened with Shane returning had Taker vs. Cena or Taker vs. Sting taken place at WM32.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1.Talents are welcome to pitch ideas on retooling their gimmicks, but it's up to Creative and Vince to make the most of those ideas. Of course, those parties usually have ideas of their own for changing ch

2. It all comes down to whether talent is actually in any danger. If a fan's threatening to show up at an event and do something illegal, WWE might act if they find out about it in the big stream of so many videos and interactions with their superstars. If it's just someone making videos with vague threats, it's usually not worth the hassle.

3. We could see a couple of names like that, but I suspect it will be largely people at the NXT or independent level.

4. Pretty much what they said. She's more useful to NXT right now than she would be as just another name on the main roster. They just brought Emma back and Dana Brooke up, so there's no need to rush Bayley into the mix as well. Especially if we see more of Eva Marie and Lana in the mix, and Naomi and Tamina come back soon. There are only so many spots!

5. It's not like they didn't know he was Lil Naitch when they hired him! Maybe there's some kind of referee tenure thing that keeps him employed despite his actions.

More TNA names in lucha cup, Tanahashi injury update, Cody gets his release and addresses WWE exit, and Questions on Eden's WWE future, using The Club, pushing Mark Henry, CWC signings, and returning World Champions

Rockstar Spud (Team Rest of the World) and Sienna (Team USA Women) have been added to the Lucha Libre World Cup.

Hiroshi Tanahashi is recovering from a left should fracture and biceps tear. He's looking to be back in the ring for a June 19 event.

Cody Rhodes shot down speculation about his WWE status, although this status in particular was kind of vague on what that meant.

- WWE confirmed coming to terms with Rhodes' release before Extreme Rules went on the air.

- Rhodes issued a statement on his departure:
--  Hey! The Greensboro Coliseum isn't dingy! It's a nice arena. (I grew up about 20 minutes from there).

-- I definitely think Cody gave the most to every role he had. He was almost always a lot of fun to watch.

-- I'm glad this isn't a "WWE hates the Rhodes family" kind of post. He seems to appreciate all he was given in WWE; he just wanted to reach a higher level in the company.

-- Here's the thing about WWE being a play. Every so often it's time to shift the actors and their roles, especially when someone's done a lot of good stuff in lower roles for years and wants a bigger role next time. With the high level departures and certain talents moving into or remaining in part-time roles, it's time to give young talents more of a spotlight.

-- WWE keeps telling talents to work hard and pitch ideas, but doesn't give them bigger roles when they do. Obviously not everyone can be in top spots, but after so many years of everyone taking a backseat to McMahons, HHH, Taker, Rock, etc., I can see why employees would be upset.

-- I'm glad Cody recognizes the soldiers. He's right; they do a lot of important work.

-- I hope great things come for Cody in his future.

- Neville, Wade Barrett, and Stephen Amell tweeted about Cody leaving. It's a real shame we never got a singles match between Cody and Amell after all the work they put in to make it happen.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1.Talk about timing! It looks like Eden's going to stay as an announcer for WWE for now. I wouldn't rule out her being a valet for her husband at some point, although it doesn't look like that's going to happen in WWE.

2. It's underwhelming IF you expected them to immediately show up and destroy everyone en route to AJ or Balor becoming WWE Champion. It's worth noting they debuted right into a WWE Title feud. It doesn't get any higher than that.

3. WWE is focusing more on younger names for "the new era." Big Show and Kane are also on the bench as far as Raw and Smackdown go, so it's not just a Mark Henry thing. It would make sense for his last televised match to be WM32 in Texas, since that was the last item on his WWE bucket list. I also kind of want him to have one last title feud if things line up, but I think he'd be in favor of giving younger names the spotlight he got early in his career.

4. Oh yeah, definitely. I expect some participants to be signed this year and some to follow in future years. It might as well be called the "NXT Tryout Invitational."

5. I can't disagree with Dave's answer here.

Superstars Reax - 5/21/16, WWE and NXT live event notes, CWC finals sell out, Interview with Brennan, new NXT host, WWE star asks for release, Questions on RVD's status, Ciampa in NXT, Trevor Lee's status, Drake Younger the referee, HHH vs. Test, and booking live events

Superstars:
- Titus/Swagger vs. Dallas/Axel:
I really want to see some vignettes with SwaggerGator. Main Event and Superstars would be more fun with some promos added in.

I'm glad everyone here's doing good work despite the lack of a push. I'm sure that's not easy at times.

Fine enough for the time and showcase it had.

- Ryder vs. Stardust:
Will this be the last Stardust match on WWE TV? I hope not.

Fun match so far. Both men do good work.

I pretty much always enjoy the "focus on a body part" style Stardust employs.

They're putting work in for a mostly meaningless match.

Nice ending.

I wish Superstars and Main Event were more like the ECW brand or NXT: Redemption with ongoing angles and feuds. Obviously only diehards are watching at this point, but those shows were pretty good for showcasing talents at this level.

NEWS BEGINS BELOW THIS LINE.

At a WWE live event in New York, The Shining Stars beat Titus O'Neil and Sin Cara. So that's the latest random tag team. Someone called the team the Prime Time Dragons, which is a great unofficial moniker.

At an NXT show in Florida:
- Mojo Rawley lost in a singles match. No Zack Ryder.

- The team of Sawyer Fulton and Alexander Wolfe continues to be a thing. They lost to American Alpha.

The finals for the Cruiserweight Classic have sold out. That last match will air live on WWE Network. It will be interesting to see who will be competing that night.

Rich Brennan discussed his release from WWE. I wonder who WWE expects to do commentary 10 years from now, given their aging announce team.

WWE has announced Austin Romero has been hired as an announcer and host for NXT. He'll be known in WWE as Mike Rome.

Cody Rhodes asked for his release Saturday. More on this tomorrow. Cody and Goldust left Tuesday's Smackdown taping before anything was filmed, which could have been a sign this was coming.

- I've always been impressed with Cody's work ethic, bringing everything he had to all the roles he portrayed. Dashing Cody Rhodes and the masked follow-up to that was one of my favorite wrestling angles ever for his progression as a character. I also appreciated his enthusiasm for the Stardust character, especially during the feud with Stephen Amell. Even when he was stuck in the undercard working Main Event and Superstars, he made sure his efforts really added something to the show. He deserves applause for his years of performances for WWE.

-- Goldust remains with the company, as he worked a live event this weekend.

Kofi Kingston did not compete at a WWE live event this weekend, likely as a result of WWE giving him some time off to be with his newborn son. The Freebird Rule is really coming in handy for New Day in this situation: Xavier and Big E competed without him at ringside.

Patrick Clark teamed with Angelo Dawkins in a loss to TM61 at an NXT live event this weekend. Whether they become a regular teaming going forward/on TV remains to be seen. For now, I'd assume they were just thrown together to give TM61 experience working as a team in NXT.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Rob was "pushing 40" in 2010. He's 45 now. Unless WWE throws him big money and a big push, he'll probably just stick to popping up here and there when something interests him enough to get in the ring.

2. His deal, like Gargano's, is set up where NXT gets priority but he's able to take other dates when not needed there. He can't sign to TNA or ROH or anything, but he can pick up work on the indies.

3. I haven't seen anything about him being exclusive to TNA, but obviously he's on good terms with them and booked as a regular. He's definitely still able to work PWG. EVOLVE might be trickier since they're looking to focus on talents who can end up in WWE developmental. With Lee holding a title in TNA, he probably doesn't fit that bill.

4. I can't blame him for taking that gig! It's got to be less taxing on his body and he does it well.

5. Test vs. HHH was just part of a bigger DX vs. McMahons feud. They did face off multiple times as part of that angle, in singles and tag matches.

6. Pretty much what was said. The direction is set on the main shows and the live events pretty much go in line with what's been booked on Raw and Smackdown: faces are still faces, heels are still heels, midcarders are still midcarders, etc. Unless someone higher up wants to try something new for a character (heel turn, singles push), live events don't do anything to go against current canon.

More wrestling tomorrow.

WWE Extreme Rules preview

Read on for my ideas on booking tonight's WWE special event.

TNA stars working AAA, Kentucky looking to bring in more wrestling, SyFy airing two hour Raw replay, Sabre, Jr. injured, Smackdown audience, ROH to Florida, why Kalisto missed Smackdown, Hall documentary trailer, JR on Taker retiring, indie women at NXT taping, and Questions on plans for Bray, TNA not promoting ONO shows, Kamala's gimmick, and Liger's recovery

Ethan Carter III, Tyrus, and Eli Drake will be TNA's team for AAA's Lucha Libre World Cup. I'm not sure how they'll explain EC3 and Tyrus working together there (if they even will) given their big feud in TNA. It is good TNA has something of a relationship with AAA; hopefully TNA can make use of some of their talents at some point.

Kentucky's new boxing and wrestling commission chairman talked about trying to revitalize the wrestling scene there. He came off well in this interview, wanting to get things back on track to benefit promoters and fans alike. I wish him the best of luck in changing things for the state, but I don't see Wrestlemania happening there. They don't have anywhere with near the capacity to hold that level of a crowd.

SyFy is airing a two-hour version of Raw on Friday nights after each Monday's live airing. I wouldn't assume this is leading to Raw being taken back to two hours on USA, but it's worth keeping track of.

Zack Sabre, Jr. was injured last week, leading to his match being stopped early and Sabre going to the hospital. He's expected to miss about three weeks, but will be back in action in time for WWE's CWC. Sabre is one of the most buzzed-about talents in the world right now, so it's good he won't miss much time.

Smackdown's audience this week was 2.30 million, roughly in line with last week.

ROH will return to Florida on Oct. 21 and 22. So, that state continues to be a hotbed of wrestling.

Kalisto was in Mexico recently promoting WWE, which is why he missed Smackdown. He'll still be a Extreme Rules.

The Scott Hall documentary DVD now has a trailer. Powerful stuff.

Jim Ross shot down rumors of Undertaker retiring at WM32. We probably won't really know one way or another until the build begins for WM33.

Rachael Ellering, Deonna Purrazzo, and Candice LeRae were all backstage at the most recent NXT taping. We've seen Ellering and Purrazzo work the brand in the past, so any of them could pop up on NXT TV in the months to come, and possibly end up signed. I wouldn't be surprised to see Tessa Blanchard return as well.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. It definitely looked like Bray was turning face. We could have gotten the Wyatts vs. LoN and maybe the Wyatts vs. The Club, but I don't think Bray vs. Roman was in the cards. I'm sure we'll get that feud again at some point, though, whether it's for the WWE Title or not.

2. It's pretty telling TNA wasn't promoting the show. That said, the show itself featured replays of two full matches from Victory Road 2009, a situation with the lighting that led to one match being largely in the dark, and a small crowd. The PPV also had matches from Bobby Roode and Velvet Sky after both have been written off from TV, and one report says the show was more like a live event with long promos than a proper PPV. To be fair, they just booked the PPV because they have contracts to air 12 PPVs a year internationally. It's not something they were pushing as at the level of Slammiversary.

3. That was definitely pretty intense, but it wasn't overly graphic (no blood) and fit in with Kamala's gimmick. They must have erred on the side of making him look like a serious threat to Hulkamania.

Nothing to add to 4.

5. Thank goodness he's OK, and still able to contribute at his age.

More wrestling tomorrow.

More on Owens/Breeze charity, Stevie back in ROH, big Goldust milestone, Andre birthday, more WWE tryouts, top team debuts in NXT, WWE Rule Book incoming, Interview with English, TNA execs to India, Impact audience, NXT dark matches, NXT name change, and Questions on sendoff feuds, Roman attacking Rock, music videos, the fly-on-the-wall camera style, and Punk in UFC

Kevin Owens and Tyler Breeze have raised $60,000 to assist victims in the aftermath of fires in Canada. They hope to keep raising money.

Stevie Richards will work the June 3 ROH live event. I'm assuming this is a one-time thing for now, but I'd love to see him work there more in 2016.

Goldust recently celebrated eight years of sobriety. That's really great. I'm proud of him for that accomplishment, and I hope this time this year he's celebrating nine years.

Andre the Giant got publicity on what would have been his 70th birthday. Worth reading if just for the brilliant photo caption at the top of the page.

WWE is having a set of tryouts this week. Footage was posted on the NXT page.

- Van Stokes talked about trying out. I hope we see some solid recruits from this tryout week.

The team formerly known as The Mighty Don't Kneel has debuted in NXT as TM61. The T is a reference to Shane Haste's new ring name, Shane Thorne, the M is for Mikey Nicholls' new name, Nick Miller, and 61 is the Australian area code. I like the dynamic of these two just from that promo. Funny stuff.

WWE is releasing an official Rule Book in January, describing the difference between a Hollywood Backlot Brawl and a Brooklyn Street Fight among other things. That's pretty funny.

Aiden English promoted Extreme Rules. I hope the Vaudevillains make the most of their opportunity for the tag team titles.

Top TNA executives, including Dixie Carter and John Gaburick, are heading to India this wekend to talk to meet with the heads of Sony 6, who air TNA there. This could relate to an upcoming tour of the country.

Impact Wrestling's audience this week was 311,000. So they might have gotten something of a boost with the advertised World Title match.

Dark matches from the most recent NXT taping:
- Manny Andrade* vs. Tino Sabbatelli
- American Alpha vs. The Authors of Pain (Gzim Selmani and Sunny Dhinsa)
- Adrienne Reese vs. Nicola Glencross
- Finn Balor and Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Samoa Joe and Tye Dillinger

-- So, some of those names could make the jump to NXT TV in the upcoming weeks and months.

The former La Sombra, previously known in NXT as Manny Andrade, is now known as Andrade "Cien" Almas. Cien Almas is Spanish for 100 Souls. We'll see how that name pans out once he finally debuts on NXT.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I also enjoy "Loser Leaves The Company" matches. Jeff Hardy vs. C.M. Punk was done well with that stipulation. As for Barrett vs. Sheamus, it's obvious Wade wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. Why give him a big spotlight on the way out when he wasn't motivated to do a big feud? It makes more sense to use more TV time for people who are going to be sticking around in important roles?

2. It's obvious WWE isn't going to go that route. If for some reason they do change course, though, Roman vs. Rock would definitely be an interesting feud.

3. Where the heck is Piledriver II? Come on, WWE Music Group! We need a new album with that theme.

4. I think unless the wrestlers are directly addressing the camera, we're seeing something they're not aware of. In other words, while fans can tweet Nick Nemeth about what's happening on the show, Dolph Ziggler the character isn't aware others can see what's going on. It's like other genres, really, when viewed in that way.

5. He continues to train toward an eventual debut following his surgery. He's just not really being hyped right now because it doesn't look like that debut's coming up yet.

More wrestling tomorrow.

ROH and Smackdown Reax - 5/19/16

Read on for my thoughts on yesterday's ROH and Smackdown.

Thursday, May 19, 2016

Fan's created star gets action figure, CWC finals live?, NXT name out hurt, NXT announcer gone, Interviews with Natalya/NXT striking coach, Snuka's trial continues, ROH announcer under new deal, Batista buries Steph, Lio Rush update, more on CWC tapings, what's Lady Balls?, Harper return update, and Questions on who runs Smackdown, EVOLVE's anti-WWE angle, how great Owens is, what if WCW won the war, and CWC expectations

WWE presented a young boy with cancer a custom action figure of his created WWE character. That's really awesome.

The CWC finals will likely air live on WWE Network. It's going to be a big endeavor for the company.

NXT's Rich Swann has missed ring time due to an arm injury. I hope he's back in time for the CWC; he's been really impressive in his brief NXT TV showings.

NXT announcer Alex Reyes has been released after less than a year with the brand. He was a host for live events and worked with talents on their promos. Reyes had previously done announcing for Booker T.'s promotion in Texas as well as the Harlem Globetrotters. They've got a number of new faces there now.

Natalya talked about facing Charlotte at Extreme Rules and more. Their match could really be incredible.

WWE's new striking coach, former UFC performer Seth Petruzelli, talked about his journey. It's kind of funny WWE is trying to make their performers strikes look more real, since they go on about how they're a TV show with characters instead of a sport.

Jimmy Snuka's mental competence is being debated has his trial continues. I really hope he's not pretending to be demented in order to avoid sentencing. That would be pretty low.

ROH has signed Bobby Cruise to an exclusive deal for the remainder of the year. I haven't heard of any interest from other parties, but he'll be staying with ROH for the time being.

Batista took shots at Stephanie McMahon's character on Twitter. BASEDtista right on the money with her character being pushed at the expense of others. Refreshing to see someone at his level speak out about that.

Lio Rush is finishing up his advertised events for EVOLVE before becoming an ROH-exclusive talent. He signed a contract with ROH during WM32 weekend, so that will be his home going forward.

WWE's Cruiserweight Classic will be combined with NXT tapings in future months. That saves money from doing separate tapings, and allows the Classic to take place across several months instead of being done in one week.

It's believed "Lady Balls" will be the name of Stephanie McMahon's memoir, and a name pushed in branding her going forward. I suppose this is her version of "Genetic Jackhammer" and "grapefruits." There will almost certainly be a big push for the memoir on TV, which means a lot of screen time for Stephanie McMahon. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see her wrestle Charlotte at Summerslam at this rate. It could be a long rest of 2016 as far as the number of Stephanie segments goes.

Luke Harper is trying to get back in the ring around August or September. I miss the Wyatts. Bray and Harper definitely add something you don't get from the bigger Rowan or Strowman, although those two definitely fit with the monster vibe.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. The angle was about running Raw because the initial plan was to split things into two brands. Shane could run Raw with HHH and Stephanie running Smackdown. Just because someone isn't on-screen announcing angles doesn't mean Shane and Stephanie aren't backstage making things happen. I do like the idea of Smackdown being self-aware and booking itself, though. Maybe it's like The Patriots/La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo? I wouldn't put it past Vince to have an AI version of himself in charge as he ages.

2. The heels are getting heat and EVOLVE's getting attention. That was the recipe for success in the days before "everyone just go out there and show off all your moves!" Gabe knows what he's doing.

3. Owens is one of the best things in wrestling period right now. WWE made a great move signing and utilizing him.

4. As was alluded to, either Vince/the McMahons would come back as WCW deteriorated or someone else would pop up to try to cash in on those WWF fans, like TNA was made to "replace" WCW. Also imagine how many more nWo angles we would have gotten. Extreme World Order with ECW talents could have been pretty interesting.

5. Hopefully it's not just an imitation of ROH or EVOLVE. I want to see what the talents can do, but know they can tell a story that's more than just a string of impressive moves.

More wrestling tomorrow.

NXT and Main Event Reax - 5/18/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's NXT and Main Event.

Wednesday, May 18, 2016

Glory by Honor weekend set, Vince stock update, E&C Show update, Interview with Dar, NXT Title match stipulation set, Nikki update, former X-Division champ re-signs, CWC tapings moved, ROH TV Title match set, Raw audience, new CWC qualifier, and Questions on EVOLVE's TNA angle, HHH as champion in 2016, family ties helping someone stay employed, Enzo's injury, and changing angles on the fly

ROH has announced Glory by Honor weekend for October 14 and 15. They're returning to Chicago and Dearborn for those shows.

Vince McMahon's stock sales were stated to be for "estate planning purposes" for the McMahons. The stock sold was around three percent of the company. Significant, but not enough to change anything in regard to WWE's power structure.

There are no immediate plans for Edge and Christian to have a second season of their show. That doesn't mean it won't happen, just that it's not happening right now.

WWE Cruiserweight Classic participant Noam Dar discussed the opportunity:
- I wouldn't assume he will end up signed by WWE. Right now it's more or less a televised tryout. He's on their radar, but let's not jump the gun here.

- I had no idea Kane was Jewish. Given how many crazy situation the character's ended up in, I expected that would have come up. I'm sad we never got a Team Hell No Hanukkah.

Samoa Joe vs. Finn Balor at the (currently unnamed) June 8 Takeover special will be a steel cage match. That should be quite the battle.

Nikki Bella teased returning to the ring at Summerslam. She'll get an update on her condition in July.

Tigre Uno has signed a new contract with TNA. He hasn't been seen on Impact in some time, so it looks like they're more or less starting over with him.

WWE's Cruiserweight Classic will be taped across four months instead of all in one week. That makes sense, given how many fans will be following spoilers. WWE wouldn't want to air something taped three months previously as if it was fresh content.

- Lince Dorado vs. Romeo Quevedo has been announced as a qualifying match taking place on May 28. Dorado was previously announced for the CWC, so he's almost definitely going over here.

Bobby Fish vs. Dalton Castle for the ROH Television Championship has been added to Best in the World 2016. That should be really interesting. Castle might surprise some people with his skills.

Raw's audience Monday was 3.19 million. There was a drop of 400,000 viewers in hour three. They took a big gamble with putting the women's championship contract signing in the main event slot.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. EVOLVE did the angle to get people talking and wondering what the real story is. Obviously they were effective in that goal. WWE and EVOLVE still have a good relationship.

2. HHH vs. Reigns had been building for a long time, dating back to at least Wrestlemania 30 and its aftermath when The Shield feuded with Evolution, and HHH got Rollins to turn on Reigns and Ambrose. The Authority had been doing everything they could to keep the title from Reigns, and finally HHH showed up to get the job done himself at the Rumble. It made complete sense as an angle, and it led to Reigns getting the rub from knocking off an all-time great. Most WWE fans don't watch NXT, so that's not much of an issue. They held off Reigns winning the title for a long time and finally pulled the trigger.

3. It's definitely a case-by-case basis. A family connection can help someone stay on longer, but it doesn't put someone like Tamina above someone like Seth Rollins.

Not much to add to 4. Gotch was in the heat of the moment and didn't have the same view we did.

5. Vince will call an audible if he feels it's necessary.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Impact Wrestling Reax - 5/17/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Impact Wrestling.

Tuesday, May 17, 2016

Flair update, WWE spotlighting NXT star, Bucks injury updates, new Bullet Clubbers to Japan, Whitmer-Corino update, Bruno done with signings, Mr. Wrestling 2 has surgery, Stephanie memoir incoming, Rollins returning soon, bizarre WWE character name, Emma injured, interview with Ziggler, Vince sells some stock, and Questions on pushing Slater, combating Reigns' push, where's HHH, Vince and Hogan sabotaging TNA, and NXT in the Garden

Ric Flair didn't work WWE's live events this weekend because he was booked for a Four Horsemen reunion at a comic convention in Detroit. That's unfortunate timing considering they toured the Carolinas this weekend.

WWE had a "No Way Day" online this weekend, spotlighting NXT's No Way Jose. It looks like they're going to try to make him the next Fandango or Adam Rose. I've enjoyed the gimmick on NXT TV so far, but it's worth noting he's still pretty new to the world of wrestling (his first match was in 2013).

Matt Jackson suffered a hand injury during the War of the Worlds tour, believed to be a broken hand. I guess all those "Too Sweets" and crotch chops caught up with him. Seriously, though, I wish both Bucks a speedy recovery. They work really hard.

-  Both Bucks will miss about four-to-six weeks, and will be unable to compete in NJPW's Best of Super Juniors tournament. That's a big blow for ROH and NJPW given how much they work both places.

Adam Cole and Adam Page will make their NJPW debuts this summer as part of the Bullet Club. This is a big opportunity for both men.

The BJ Whitmer/Steve Corino feud is expected to come to a head at Best in the World. They were responsible for some really good TV for a while there.

Bruno Sammartino will be doing his final signing on November 19. At 80, he's had a long run.

Mr. Wrestling 2, 81, is recovering from surgery after an aneurysm. I wish him the best.

Stephanie McMahon is writing a memoir of her life growing up in WWE. That should be interesting.

Seth Rollins is training in the WWE Performance Center for a return within the month. We could easily see him in action for MITB. I look forward to his next run.

WWE has trademarked the character name "Lady Balls," which sounds like something The Rock would call someone but is apparently an idea for a gimmick for someone. I have NO idea what they have up their sleeves there.

Emma suffered some kind of back injury at a WWE live event. That's unfortunate. She's just now getting a push.

- WWE reports Emma has a ruptured disc and will require surgery. Emma's one of my favorite workers. I hope she doesn't miss much time.

Dolph Ziggler had an interview before Raw talking about his path to WWE. He's really dedicated to being successful.

Vince McMahon has sold almost six percent of WWE stock. I assume he would rather have the money than that amount of stock for some reason. He still retains around 86% of stocks and voting power in the company, so don't expect things to change.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. He's been a very entertaining performer who's made the most of the spots he's been given. I would like to see him get a "thank you" reign with the U.S., IC, or Tag Team Titles at some point, because he's worked hard for years.

2. Fans could also chant for AJ, Ambrose, etc. if they'd rather see them in main events. Chanting for people who aren't current wrestlers (announcers, Punk, Savage, etc.) or singing/putting themselves over isn't helping the case of someone replacing Reigns in the main event. It just makes the show miserable for people who have to hear the "Super Edgy Crowd Show featuring WWE Superstars."

3. I think they could easily have the Cerebral Assassin bide his time and strike at the right moment, just when everyone thinks he's out of the picture. I think that's the right move. We're getting fresh faces on TV due to his absence at the moment, but he could be lurking to catch Roman or someone off-guard when he thinks he can take the title back.

4. Hogan coming in gave TNA months of publicity and their biggest audience ever. There was heat between Hogan and Vince for a while before he went to TNA, so I don't see it being a big conspiracy.

5. If the timing works out to do a big show there, I think they could. I do know it's really expensive to do TV from the Garden, so they'd have to really make a lot of money from the endeavor.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Raw Reax - 5/16/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Raw.

NXT Title feud update, WWE live event notes, next ROH Title match set, ROH name injured, and Questions on Itami returning, pushing Big Cass, Rose's gimmick on the main roster, Sandow retaining that name, and Dolph's brother's legal issues

William Regal will make an announcement regarding Finn Balor's rematch with Samoa Joe live Tuesday on Facebook. I expect a stipulation to be added to the Takeover match to up the ante. I hope they end their feud with a war.

- WWE also posted footage of the big brawl Balor and Joe had at a live event. NXT isn't big enough for the two of them!

Some notes from a WWE live event in Virginia:
- Sin Cara beat Viktor. So, Viktor's still getting work as a lower-level singles heel with Konnor out.

- Titus O'Neil teamed with Jack Swagger to beat Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel. No Heath Slater, oddly. He's been absent lately; I hope he's OK.

- Eva Marie, Dana Brooke, and Lana teamed in a loss to Sasha Banks, Paige, and Becky Lynch. That sounds like it could have been really rough considering the lack of experience on the heel side.

Notes from WWE in South Carolina:
- Kevin Owens was helped to the back after his match with Sami Zayn. There hasn't been a report of him being injured, so hopefully he was just selling.

- Ric Flair was also absent here, possibly because he might get cheered heavily in Flair Country and they want Charlotte to get booed.

Jay Lethal will defend the ROH Championship against Jay Briscoe at Best in the World on June 24. This is a rematch from a highly overrated championship match in 2015. I'm interested to see where this leaves Colt Cabana and the Bullet Club. Maybe they'll build to Lethal vs. Cabana and/or Cole for Final Battle?

Nick Jackson of the Young Bucks was injured at an ROH event earlier this week, and was subsequently pulled from a later date. He is still advertised for Best in the World next month, so he might not be out long.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I really hope Itami comes back strong after so long on the shelf. He's more or less starting from scratch at this point. Maybe that works in his favor, though, because he can pretty much strike at an opportune time with his return.

2. The simple answer is "they need to let Cass be Cass" and not try to force him into the Cena/Roman mold. I think right now they should keep him below main event level as a singles star so they don't have to "abandon" the tag team push with Enzo. Unless Enzo's going to miss several months, this is a short-term push, so it's not realistic to push him as a top name. I expect the Dudleys to attack him and Enzo to make the save to put things where they were.

3. Really, the character had a shelf life and they pretty much got everything they could out of it. That said, I do think there's something to the notion of it working better in a smaller, more intimate venue. As for his original theme music, there was some sort of issue (possibly financial) with using the work from that band.

4. That should be fine. As long as he doesn't try to create new merchandise with a WWE-owned name, I don't think WWE's going to care enough to go after him.

5. GREAT reference from Dave here. Dolph and his brother are separate people and should be treated as such. This brother has never been a WWE employee, sp it's really not their place to get involved in that case.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Superstars Reax - 5/14/16, AJ injury update, ROH departure, Lilian addresses WWE status, ROH and WWE live event notes, and Questions on Taker on the Raw after WM32, Bryan in the HoF, Elias Sandow, and HHH's views on the EVOLVE angle

Superstars:
- Cesaro vs. Dallas:
It's a shame we didn't get a promo before this match. I wanted Dallas to suggest the two of them team as Cesar-Bo.

Impressive wrestling skills by Cesaro. Not that I'm surprised.

I'd like to see more from Cesaro than European uppercuts. It's becoming his Young Bucks superkick as far as how much it's used.

That was mostly good, just short.

- Stardust vs. Crews:
Stardust is a valuable performer for this level of the card. He's moving into his brother's old role of utility player well. I'm getting flashbacks to the ECW brand.

Nice job working the arm. It's fundamental, but effective.

I really wish Crews had spent more time in NXT in order to become a more fleshed out performer. He's only 28 after all; they have plenty of time for him to progress.

Good match, just pretty basic.

AJ Styles confirmed being off the road this weekend due to a nagging ankle injury. For someone who flies around as much as he does, that's a significant detriment. Hopefully he's back to top shape for his big rematch with Reigns. On a side note, I'm all for a Club/Shield match at Summerslam, although I wonder where Finn Balor fits into all that. As much as I'd love to see Joe join the Shield in that endeavor to counter Balor in an eight-man tag, I don't know if that'd be the right move.

Cedric Alexander finished up with ROH at the finale of their War of the Worlds tour. He's booked for EVOLVE soon, and there's speculation of him entering the WWE Cruiserweight Classic following a tryout a few months back. He could be on his way to NXT in the near future. I understand ROH not using Cedric much with him not signing a new contract and trying to join WWE. I hope this is the right move for him. I'm interested to see what Veda Scott does next, since she was managing him on-screen.

Lilian Garcia disputed reports of her being released from WWE. She has missed time due to her father battling health issues, and will be back at Raw. I think people jumped the gun in making an assumption of why she's been absent from TV.

At an ROH live event in Dearborn, Michigan earlier this week that may or may not be a TV taping (reports are conflicting on that front):
- Adam Page joined the Bullet Club. It looks like the plan is to have an ROH "branch" of the group regularly working there while some of the other names work primarily for NJPW. That's not a bad idea. Page joining is pretty out of nowhere, since he had just turned face to feud with BJ Whitmer in a split of The Decade. I guess ROH is taking a page from the booking of the original nWo: if you don't know what to do with someone, just put them in the big group.

- The Addiction became ROH Tag Team Champions after challenging War Machine immediately following Hanson and Rowe's successful title defense. It looks like an Addiction/MCMG feud will follow for the titles. That was a pretty abrupt end to War Machine's reign, which some speculate means we're in for the duo pulling a reDRagon and focusing on singles matches for now. I'm mostly tepid on the team, and I don't see that changing with them working separately.

Ric Flair was not in Charlotte's corner during a recent WWE live event in North Carolina. We'll see if he's on Raw. It's possible WWE didn't want him getting cheered in Flair Country.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. It's clear they wanted to get right into the new angles with Shane "in charge." Starting the show with 20 minutes of Vince, Taker, and Shane wouldn't exactly say "we're starting a new era!" Time spent on Taker, who very well could have had his last match at WM32, is time they wouldn't be able to spend on AJ Styles, Kevin Owens, Cesaro, Enzo Amore, Colin Cassady, Apollo Crews, and Baron Corbin. They made the right move. As far as it being a "gaping plot hole," that's only true if you ignore the several promos explaining why Vince put Shane in charge, including the first promo on the night after WM32!

2. If they don't put him in in 2017, they might try to hold out until Wrestlemania is back in Arizona or Seattle. The only thing that would prevent him form going in would be having a bad falling out with the company or doing something heinous.

3. I was thinking Sandow's evil twin or a Jekyll and Hyde situation (you know they have the skills to pull that off), but that could have worked, too. As for Samson's gimmick, he's one of the most over heels in NXT. He's like a smaller-scale Vickie Guerrero as far as getting legitimate heat.

4. HHH is smart enough to know it's a "worked shoot." The TNA names are the villains in the scenario, with the NXT/CWC names as babyfaces. It's a clever way to further put over the EVOLVE-WWE relationship.

Nothing to add to 5.

More wrestling tomorrow.

WWE in Japan notes, Eddie tribute show on Network, Impact loses replay, TNA production offices moved, Interviews with Sabre/Sandow, Smackdown audience, NXT live event notes, TNA tapings set, and Questions on EVOLVE's TNA/NXT angle, candid footage on the Network, Y2J's odd feuds, WWE's releases, and TNA's staffing problems

WWE has announced some interesting names and matches for their July shows in Tokyo:
- Roman Reigns vs. AJ Styles for the WWE Championship is set for both nights. Each match is a triple threat, with Kevin Owens working there the first night and Chris Jericho involved the second night.

- Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson are working both nights. Somewhat surprisingly, they're not teaming with AJ on the shows. It's possible the card changes and they end up working with AJ or Finn Balor, but for now, they're working as a duo. This could just be a clever way of hiding Balor working the show, since he's not officially on the main roster yet. They'd be crazy to not use him at that event.

- Shinsuke Nakamura is facing Bray Wyatt both nights, which should be pretty interesting.

- Titus O'Neil is set for the tour working against Baron Corbin, so he's in the company's good graces again.

- Asuka will face Becky Lynch the first night and Natalya the second night.

WWE Network now has the Eddie Guerrero tribute show from 2005. However, it's the show as it was taped live instead of the version aired for Raw. That was a memorable night.

Pop has removed Impact Wrestling's Saturday morning replay. The numbers for the show weren't high enough to keep the show going. The hope is this will increase viewership for Tuesday's airing. I would expect a secondary show (Xplosion, TNA's Greatest Matches) is off the table at this point.

TNA has moved the majority of its production staff to NorthStar Studios in Nashville, one of the biggest production spaces in the city. The hope is to purchase additional space in order to move most of or all of the main office personnel there.

Zack Sabre, Jr. talked about entering WWE's Cruiserweight Classic. Sabre is one of the most praised and talked-about talents in the world right now.

Smackdown's audience Thursday was 2.26 million, down slightly from the previous week.

Damien Sandow discussed life after his WWE release:
- Everyone seems to be forgetting Sandow's previous run in WWE as Aaron "The Idol" Stevens. For WWE, this is someone who's been in the company in one form or another for quite some time and didn't become a WWE Champion. I'm a really big Sandow fan, but the whole story needs to be told.

- Once he debuted on the main roster as Sandow, he was definitely amazing at getting reactions. He's a natural at expressions and speaking.

- Even if they weren't going to push him, the guy was natural at getting himself and others over. They could have used him in NXT or paired him with someone new if nothing else.

- It's touching that he appreciates the chance he got and the amazing reactions from the fans.

- Class act. Really touching interview with a great guy.

- He definitely could have been a commentator, manager, or GM.

- The pink tights/robe thing was over from day one. He was getting "Diva" chants in FCW.

- Sandow's failed MITB cash-in was done to put Cena right back on the map after his injury with a successful title defense.

- Sandow definitely stood out with the odd dressing-up gimmick.

- Miz and Sandow were MONEY as a team.

- I think Sandow would be a natural actor given all we saw from him in WWE.

- I hope we see more good things from him, whether it's in the ring or on-screen. All around great person.

Some notes from NXT in Florida:
- The former TMDK worked as a team.

- Alexander Wolfe and Sawyer Fulton are a duo now, working together.

- Lana worked a tag match. It's good to see her training to wrestle in case they do need her to do that more on the main roster.

TNA has officially announced TV tapings in Orlando for the three days following June 12's Slammiversary, with June 14 being a live(ish) edition of Impact Wrestling. Either they're going to tape things really out of order or June 13 will be taping of Xplosion and One Night Only content.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Galloway and EC3 are the heels in the angle, against the NXT superstars and people competing in the Cruiserweight Classic. I doubt there will be any heat on EVOLVE for the angle.

2. I wouldn't think there'd be a big demand for the footage by itself, but it could certainly be put into bigger projects.

3. In defense of the previous angle, the story was HHH's wife had left him for someone who at one point was her arch-enemy. It added heat to HHH making his return at the Rumble to take on the main who had snuck out victories against Rock and Austin in previous months. Neither Mitch nor Stephanie's poodle are the centerpiece of their respective angles. They're just one part of the more personal focus of the feuds.

4. Usually they do. It was clear WWE wasn't going to use most of those names in significant roles going forward, so they parted ways with them.

5. WWE reported it themselves. She was released along with a number of other names last week.

6. Because TNA is understaffed and a mess. That's pretty much what it comes down to. They don't have the resources and staff of a company like WWE to have an impressive website.

More wrestling tomorrow.

More on AAA airing in Canada, Rose arraigned, new Network documentary series?, Ryback's status, WWE Kids update, more NXT tapings set, EVOLVE working with PROGRESS?, ROH name working CWC?, Interview with Hornswoggle, WWE MSG main events, and Questions on nepotism in WWE, the Beautiful People in WWE, the new women's championship, why Ric is banned at Extreme Rules, and great arenas

Fight Network's weekly AAA series is in English and 90 minutes in length. That's a nice get for both sides.

Adam Rose and his wife met before a judge as a result of the charges against him. Hopefully counseling helps keep his relationship in order, and things end up improving from here.

- Rose met bond Thursday afternoon. He'll be back in court in June. If he's convicted on charges, he'll be released from his WWE contract. I hope for the best for Rose and his family.

WWE Network is developing a "Behind the Curtain" series that would be a documentary-style look at stories like Ric Flair's plane crash, Bruiser Brody's murder (!!!), and Gorgeous George's career. That could be an enlightening show.

AJ Styles didn't wrestle on Smackdown in order to rest up some nagging injuries ahead of Extreme Rules. I hope those injuries don't become something more major, considering he's only a few months into his WWE career.

Ryback is currently expected to be done with WWE once his contract expires in late July. There's still time for the two sides to work something out, but they're currently at an impasse.

WWE is moving forward with their WWE Kids project after the pilot they filmed at Full Sail months back. We'll see how things go with that in the months to come.

Lilian Garcia has missed time from WWE TV due to a family emergency and hopes to be back next week. Best wishes to her.

NXT has tapings set in Full Sail on June 9 and June 24 following the June 8 Takeover special, so it looks like they're having shows more frequently there instead of taping six weeks or so at a time. There hasn't been an official announcement of a Takeover special happening in Brooklyn Summerslam weekend, but that would be the perfect time to do one.

The owners of EVOLVE and PROGRESS are teasing a business relationship. That could mean more UK names working EVOLVE, meaning more UK names on WWE's radar. That's good news for all involved.

Jushin Liger returned to the ring at ROH's TV taping in Toronto, and is expected to compete against Mark Briscoe Saturday night.

ROH's proposed new championship is not expected to be a Women's championship. Then what in the world do they need another title for?

ROH is expected to use Kaimatachi regularly going forward. ROH needs to thank their lucky stars at being able to use so many Japanese talents.

WWE is sponsoring EVOLVE's June 11 show, which will be called The WWE Cruiserweight Classic Flashpoint. Johnny Gargano, TJP, Drew Gulak, and Lince Dorado are all booked for the show.

- Cedric Alexander will be working the show as well, leading to speculation of him working the CWC. He had a tryout with WWE a few months ago, so he could be jumping ship from ROH. He's not under contract there, and isn't featured as regularly as he used to be.

Hornswoggle addressed his Wellness suspension. I don't know how much of a difference it really makes now.

Advertised for WWE coming to MSG on July 16:
- Roman Reigns vs. AJ Styles
- Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho
- John Cena vs. Alberto Del Rio.

-- I think it's safe to guess Cena vs. Del Rio will be the direction WWE will go in once Cena comes back. Of note, the Wyatts, Rollins, Ryback, and Orton aren't advertised for the show. Some of them could very well end up working the show, but they aren't advertised right now.

WWE put up footage from the CWC qualifiers recently taped at EVOLVE. This a big platform for those performers.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Family connections only help so much if the performer can't deliver. I think Natalya being on Total Divas helps her stay around more than her last name (not that she's not more than talented enough to hopefully stay around on those grounds). There's no way they're going to release Roman. He'll probably have a job pretty much as long as he wants one given how much they've invested in him. So, look forward to him hitting the Superman Punch and Spear as part of a 25-minute segment at Wrestlemania 45.

2. If either name does come to WWE, I don't see it being under those names or that gimmick since that was all TNA-created. There's a decent chance of Velvet ending up in WWE if Bubba Ray pushes for it. I'm not as sure about Angelina. It's possible she ends up back in TNA once she's ready to wrestle again.

3. That was probably just part of a special photoshoot. They do those from time to time. I'm glad they have a new championship for The New Era.

4. The stipulation is just a reflection of Ric usually helping Charlotte win matches. If they were going to punish him for the incident, they wouldn't keep flying him into TV tapings.

5. It all depends on whether you want to be part of a big crowd or an intimate experience. It also depends on who you go with and what product is featured.

More wrestling tomorrow.

ROH and Smackdown Reax - 5/12/16

Read on for my thoughts on yesterday's ROH and Smackdown.

Thursday, May 12, 2016

WWE sets two tours for Mexico, XFL documentary coming, Interview with NXT's Knight, WWE financial press, more on TNA names in EVOLVE, Rose arrested and suspended, Impact audience, CWC crossing over with NXT?, Lesnar update, former World Champion no longer under contract, and Questions on how to combat Reigns' push, TNA's power structure, more women's feuds in WWE, Saxton's role, and post-WWE shoot interviews

WWE will be touring Mexico twice in 2016, going there in late August and the beginning of December. For whatever reason(s), it seems like Latin/South America isn't as much of a focus as it used to be, but maybe that will change after these tours.

ESPN is working on a "30 for 30" documentary on the XFL. I look forward to that. Those were some wild times.

NXT's Tucker Knight promoted an upcoming live event in his home market. Hilariously, Bull-Fit is listed as one of his nicknames. He definitely looks similar to Bull.

New York Post put over WWE's financial releases. It was a good day for them on Wall Street.

Drew Galloway and EC3 are booked for upcoming EVOLVE shows, so their angle against the likes of Johnny Gargano and TJ Perkins will continue. Should be interesting.

Adam Rose was arrested in Florida for domestic battery and tampering with a witness. Talk about a situation going from bad to worse. I hope everyone involved gets the help they need to prevent this from happening again.

- The battery charge stems from Rose grabbing his wife's face while screaming at her during an argument. The tampering charge is the result of Rose taking the phone away from her as she tried to report the incident via 911.

- WWE has suspended Rose indefinitely due to the arrest, in accordance with their policies on domestic violence. Should he be sentenced to jail time, WWE will release him from his contract. His Wellness policy suspension remains in effect. He's in a rough situation right now. I hope everything works out well for his family.

Impact Wrestling's audience Tuesday was 280,000 viewers. Pop dropping the immediate replay definitely doesn't seem to be helping the ratings. That's unfortunate.

Part of the Cruiserweight Classic could be taped as part of NXT tapings next month, so there could be some crossover with the tournament airing on NXT. That's a good idea to get the NXT audience to check out the new series.

Brock Lesnar is currently planned to be off TV until the build to Summerslam. If they don't have something big for him to do, it makes sense to invest TV time in newer stars until then.

Christian is believed to have been released from his performer contract, which does NOT have any effect on any endeavors like the Edge & Christian Show. Considering he hasn't wrestled in two years, that's probably for the best. He's now clear to wrestle elsewhere if he wants to, but I wouldn't expect him to join another promotion full-time following his WWE career ending.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Dave pretty much nailed it, but left out something important. If you want to see someone like Ambrose in his place, cheer for Dean and buy his merch. Or if it's AJ you want to see as WWE Champion, show your support for him. If Vince sees someone is getting over with the crowd and drawing him money, he's more likely to get behind them.

2. Dixie is in charge, but I think she's more likely to defer to those around her since a lot of them are more "wrestling people" than she is. Vince comes from a family of promoters and has been doing what he's doing for decades, so he's confident in his vision.

3. They definitely don't need another title. Instead, they need to build other feuds for the women. We're actually seeing that now with Emma/Dana vs. Becky. I hope we see more women's feuds that aren't centered on the championship.

4. He's a former wrestler, but people like Owens could still kick his ass. It's not like he's a former WWE Champion or anything. As for the second part of the question, I think he's there to be groomed as one of the next generation of commentators. He's learning under the more experienced names.

5. WWE thinks they can make money from both men, so bygones are bygones!

More wrestling tomorrow.

NXT and Main Event Reax - 5/11/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's NXT and Main Event.

Wednesday, May 11, 2016

What happened after Raw, more on Andre movie, Cruiserweight Classic updates, top names not at TV, Epico/Primo update, Neville sighting, Liger injury update, ROH team to miss taping, ROH TV matches announced, ECW original launches GoFundMe for medical bills, Ali/Inoki book coming soon, Raw audience, new contract for HHH, Rosa on being a mom, Bray update, WWE discounting Ryback merch, WWE releases long-term backstage presence, and Questions on GFW's TV struggles, releasing Cameron, Sandow's future, Rusev's accent, and Vince vs. Taker at WM33

After Raw ended, Chris Jericho and Dean Ambrose continued their segment. After burying the crowd, Jericho demanded an apology for Ambrose destroying his jacket, and ended up eating a Dirty Deeds DDT to end the taping. Sounds like a lot of fun.

The upcoming Andre the Giant biopic will be based on the official graphic novel biography published last year. I'm glad his story's being told.

WWE will tape the Cruiserweight Classic the week of June 20 in Orlando. They've trademarked the name of the tournament as well as the initials CWC, so hopefully this is a yearly thing.

Although Alberto Del Rio, Sheamus, Mark Henry, Big Show, and Kane worked live events this past weekend, they weren't brought to this week's TV tapings. This could be part of the idea to feature new faces in their places. It's probably a good idea to give them some time off from TV so it's fresh when they come back.

Epico and Primo will be known as the Shining Stars, and will return to action on Raw. We'll see how long they last before descending into jobberdom.

Musician Collie Buddz ran into Neville, who's featuring a new look. It's entirely possible he goes back to what he looked like last time we saw him on TV when he recovers.

Jushin Liger may or may not compete before the end of the ongoing ROH/NJPW tour. He'll appear for autographs and photos regardless.

War Machine won't be at the next TV taping due to an angle at the most recent TV taping. Unfortunately, Bullet Club will be.

Announced for ROH's upcoming TV taping:
- Jay Lethal vs. Donovan Dijak
- Tetsuya Naito vs. Moose
- The Elite vs. Tanahashi/Elgin/Tatsu
- KUSHIDA vs. Kyle O'Reilly
- Tomohiro Ishii vs. Will Ferrara
-- Some of those match-ups sound pretty good.

ECW's Chris Hamrick is using GoFundMe to assist with his medical bills. Best of luck to him with that endeavor.

The (in)famous Muhammad Ali/Antonio Inoki bout is the subject of a book to release next month. It's being billed as a fight inspiring MMA and launching sports entertainment. That could be really interesting.

Raw's audience Monday was 3.24 million viewers. Fans have been somewhat tepid to WWE TV since WM32. Top names (Taker, Brock, HHH, Cena, Orton, Rollins, Bray, Harper, Show, Kane) have been absent, and it takes time to build up new stars for the new era.

WWE has signed Triple H to a new three-year deal as an on-screen talent, going through Wrestlemania 35. The deal then continues annually under the same terms until one side or the other informs the other they no longer wish to continue the agreement. So, we're going to see HHH on TV (likely at least occasionally wrestling) for a LONG time. As other older names retire and move on, he's expected to stay around. Honestly, that makes sense if he's going to be the next Mr. McMahon. Even if that wasn't the case, he's younger than Undertaker and Kane, and they're still going.

Rosa Mendes told WWE.com about being a mother. If she does remain under contract to WWE, she could just end up working for WWE.com for the near future. That's what she was doing last.

Bray Wyatt is expected to miss at least a few more weeks of in-ring action. I look forward to seeing what the Family does when they come back together.

WWE has put all their Ryback merchandise on sale as his contract winds down. His current deal expires in late July or early August. It's entirely possible he re-signs; there's plenty of time for them to come to terms. WWE's just preparing in case he does split. They don't want another Punk situation where they have a lot of unsold merchandise and they're on less-than-friendly terms with a departed talent.

WWE has released Steve Lombardi, best known as the Brooklyn Brawler, after decades of work with the company. Beyond his many wrestling roles, he has moved up the ladder in his backstage position to being "THE guy" grading promos for people trying out for the company. In a lot of ways, this is the end of an era for WWE, as he was around before WrestleMania 1. I would assume this is part of a changing of the guard to a new era and new philosophy for 2016.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Not a lot of people know about GFW. While it has about the same level of awareness as LU, it's far below TNA, ROH, and NXT. So, it'd be a big risk for a company to take a chance on their product given that lack of built-in audience.

2. I think she was probably on the chopping block anyway. I would imagine she was still on a main roster level contract for occasionally working live events and NXT. As far as cuts go, she was likely not a difficult choice regardless of the Ryback tweets.

3. I'd definitely like to see him in TNA, but I could see the argument it's a better move to work ROH/New Japan. I just hope they wouldn't make him as bland as most of the rest of the workers there. He's a really good talker. So was Lethal before ROH.

4. Blame those American pigs. Once he brings the U.S. Title back to glorious Russia, his accent will make a comeback.

5. I would watch the hell out of Vince vs. Taker at WM33 if it has all the sports entertainment bells and whistles of those characters (special effects and corporate run-ins included), but I don't think they need to sabotage the Rumble in order to do it. Just play off the "Undertaker is Vince's bitch" thing from this year.

More wrestling tomorrow.
