Bateman undergoes surgery, Phoenix update, Hall of Famer at Raw, Raw rating, and Questions on marking out, Punk vs. Ryback, NXT, and TNA vs. WWE

Derrick Bateman recently had a knee surgery. I hope he comes back strong.

Beth Phoenix is indeed officially gone from WWE. At least, Raw was her last scheduled appearance.

Edge was backstage at Raw.

Monday's Raw did a 2.95 rating, significantly up from recent weeks. They might be on to something with Punk vs. Ryback.

Everything else from yesterday is after the break.

TTTT set, Otunga appearance, new Turning Point match, Show interview, and Questions on Aces and Eights, WWE '13, PWI 500, ratings, and Heyman guys

WWE Tribute to the Troops will be on 12/22.

David Otunga will appear on the 11/4 episode of Oprah's Life Class. I can see him being the next Miz if he improves in the ring.

Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez vs. Daniels and Kazarian has been added to TNA Turning Point. Fine by me.

Indie sensation debuts in WWE and Questions on Vince vs. Heyman, Ryback, Vickie, and unifying titles

PAC made his debut in NXT this week under the name Ben Sacilly. He's gotten some good hype so I hope he impresses.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I'd have to go with Heyman as well. A lot of people who went on to success in WWE got their starts elsewhere, some even in ECW, and Vince just snatched them up once someone else had shown what they could do.

Nothing to add to 2.

Saturday Morning Slam Reax - 10/27/12, Impact rating, and Questions on brass knuckles, Sabin, and Joseph Park

Saturday Morning Slam:
The opening match was ok but nothing amazing.

I liked Cesaro vs. Bateman and am glad the latter is getting some TV time.

The most recent Impact Wrestling got a 0.97. That's disappointing with RVD and Hardy as champions.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
Nothing to add to 1.

Interviews with Punk/Ziggler, reason behind TNA announcing change, and Questions on Trish, Divas, and politics

C.M. Punk talked to SLAM!. As always, he shoots straight from the hip.

Dolph Ziggler talked to the Baltimore Sun. Another guy who represents what the business is about.

TNA's announce team change was done to freshen up the show, and was pushed for by Eric Bischoff. I'm fine with not hearing 2 hours of Taz in 2012.

Main Event Reax - 10/24/12, Interviews with King Mo/Punk, Impact back in the UK, and Questions on talent relations, Bully Ray, tag teams, Flair, and Mr. Anderson

Main Event:
I'm feeling Ryback for some reason.

Damn. Ryback was pretty impressive there. Ziggler's always amazing. Both have upsides.

Solid match between Del Rio and Sin Cara.

Good ending segment. This is quickly becoming the best show of the week.

Everything else from Wednesday is after the break.

Thursday, October 25, 2012

Interviews with Jericho/DDP, and Questions on Lashley, Mania dream matches, Punk vs. Lesnar, and Cena

Chris Jericho talked about Ryback vs. C.M. Punk. His ideas are certainly revolutionary! I think Punk's reign does have meaning and can be continued. They do need to be very careful with the ending, since they can't do a DQ. I'll give my idea for the ending this weekend. I don't think it's perfect, but it might be the best they can do.

DDP also talked.

For my take on Tuesday's PWInsider.com questions:
Nothing to add to 1.

Questions on pushing and feeding Ryback, backstage names, beating WWE (or TNA), and Mark Henry

For my take on Sunday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. They have their work cut out for them in protecting both Punk and Ryback. I think it's doable, but don't know if they can do it.

2. I'm a little surprised to see praise for Dunn, since he's connected with the "we make movies" aspect of WWE.

Everything else from Sunday is after the break.

Saturday Morning Slam Reax - 10/20/12, NXT Champ works Egypt, Interview with Hogan, and Questions on SDR, Knockouts, and Hogan

Saturday Morning Slam:
Ryder vs. Gabriel was pretty nice. Give these guys some experience and maybe they go places.

Bryan vs. Kidd wasn't bad. They could do more in a non-kiddie setting.

NXT Champion Seth Rollins worked a number of WWE shows in Egypt, including teaming with R-Truth. I'm looking forward to whenever he gets to debut.

Hulk Hogan talked about working with Andre the Giant.

Everything else from Saturday is after the break.

Interviews with Maxine/Bischoff, Graham passes away, Impact rating, and Questions on Beth Phoenix, Hogan, and Eve

Maxine talked about a number of WWE topics. She really came into her own on Season 5 of NXT. Very talented worker who should have been on Raw or Smackdown.

Mike Graham passed away at 61.

Eric Bischoff talked about TNA topics. Very good read!

Impact did a 0.99, higher than previous weeks. BFG was a big show and I think the numbers reflect that.

Everything else from Friday is after the break.

Interview with Goldberg, Mysterio and Cena updates, and Questions on KOTR, DVDs, celebrities on Raw, and books

Goldberg commented on his name being chanted during Ryback matches. The comments begin around 8:30.

Rey Mysterio is citing a "serious illness" as the reason he's not in the WWE mix.

John Cena will appear on WWE's upcoming European tour. No word as to whether he will wrestle.

For my take on Thursday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. If they do, I hope they make it more meaningful than Regal's win. I liked King Sheamus, though the costume was ridiculous.

Everything else from Thursday is after the break.

Main Event Reax - 10/17/12, Interviews with Hugo/Helms/AJ, and Questions on Aces and Eights, Hogan, Nitro, and unsung heroes

Main Event:
Good videos on Kofi Kingston. More of this!

Strong promo and packages on Miz.

Main event level match from Miz and Kofi. Phenomenal. I hope both get to hang with main eventers now.

Good post-match promos, too. This show is awesome.

Ziggler vs. Ryder was fine to show Ziggler's ready to move up to the next tier. They need to be careful with booking the match with Ryback. Both need to protected!

Everything else from Wednesday is after the break.

Tuesday Smackdown set, Interviews with Punk/Foley/Cena, two WWE returns, and Questions on TNA's up-and-comers, Jericho, JR, and midcard titles

WWE has a Smackdown set for Tuesday, November 6. I doubt that it's a coincidence that that's Election Day.

C.M. Punk talked about comics and more.

Mick Foley talked about a number of wrestling topics.

So did John Cena.

The most recent Raw did a 2.79. Not bad, but I'd like to think they can do better.

Everything else from Tuesday is after the break.

Punk/Austin Debate, Sting in the Hall, and Questions on TNA signing WWE guys, Punk as a heel, 3 hours of Raw, and WWE signing TNA guys

C.M. Punk and Steve Austin had a debate to promote WWE '13.

Here's footage from Sting going in the TNA Hall of Fame.

For my take on the 10/15 PWInsider.com questions:
1. WWE is still on a much higher profile (and, generally, pay scale) than TNA. If Ziggler and Miz want to be legitimate mainstream wrestling stars, right now WWE is the place to do that.

Nothing to add to 2.

Queries on Homicide and the Hardys, Interviews with Tara/Storm, and Questions on AJ, Hogan, MITB, BFG, and Punk

I haven't done queries in a while, so let's see what's in the inbox:
1. Homicide is not a part of WWE at this time. If he did go there, WWE would give him a different name.

2. There's talk that Jeff Hardy could go back to WWE when his TNA contract's up in early 2013. There haven't been any rumblings of Matt going back there that I know of. He's still trying to get his life back together.

Tara talked ahead of Bound For Glory. I suspect Jillian Hall is better than WWE let her be.

James Storm talked as well.

Saturday Morning Slam Reax- 10/13/12, Interview with Kane, Questions on WWF vs. ECW, Stephanie, Kelly Kelly, and YouTube

Saturday Morning Slam:
Miz vs. Gabriel was pretty good. I'd like Miz to be booked stronger than being on SMS but what can you do?

Sin Cara vs. Mahal was solid enough.

Kane was interviewed. Good read.

For my take on the 10/13 PWInsider.com questions:
Nothing to add to 1.

Everything else from 10/13 is after the break.

Interviews with Aries/Daniels/Sting, 10/11 Impact rating, and Questions on Punk, TNA vs. WWE, and pushes

Austin Aries talked ahead of Bound For Glory. There are important notes there about how TNA operates. Hardy might not even be in TNA at this time next year, but the company's supporting him more than a guy busting his ass to make it up the ranks.

Christopher Daniels talked as well. Some funny moments there.

Sting concludes the 10/12 interviews promoting Bound For Glory. Good read. I hope there is a Sting book, and he hope he helps elevate the younger guys. He's right about Jeff Jarrett deserving the Hall of Fame induction.

The 10/11 Impact got a 0.86 rating against the Vice Presidential debate. This was a show with Hogan, Sting, and Jeff Hardy in major roles.

Interviews with Rock/Hogan, and Questions on Creative, Rock, and Punk

The Rock briefly discussed wrestling.

Hulk Hogan also talked wrestling. Of course he puts himself over and unintentionally (?) buries the champion by saying the challenger is so much more over.

For my take on the 10/11 PWInsider.com questions:
1. One team does big picture storylines for TV and PPV and the live event team just kind of fills in the dots for each local market, working off of what the other team did.

Everything else from 10/11 is after the break.

Main Event Reax - 10/10/12, more on Punk hitting a fan, Interview with Foley, and Questions on Vince, shakeups, heels, Ryback, and Kane

Main Event:
Good promo by Show.

And a fine promo by Orton as well.

Pretty solid "WWE-style" main event between Orton and Show. Both have earned their spots.

Fine Sheamus promo. I like him better when he's serious.

I liked what was shown of Kofi vs. McGillicutty, and Kofi/Miz was nice.

Everything else from 10/10 is after the break.

More on Punk altercation, complaint about Del Rio, Interviews with Heyman/Hardy, 10/8 Raw rating, Questions on Cena, ratings, Punk vs. Lesnar, Vince and Ryback

Here's video of the C.M. Punk fan altercation. I'm thinking Punk was tired of being shoved by fans and took it out on the last fan who hit him. I imagine he'll get some sort of fine or something.

Speaking of fan altercations, someone complained to TMZ about the common heel act of ripping up a fan's sign at a live event. It's a TV show, people.

Paul Heyman talked about WWE '13 and more. Always a pleasure to read him.

Jeff Hardy talked ahead of Bound For Glory.

Everything else from 10/9 is after the break.

Interview with Cena, 10/5 Smackdown rating, big change to Raw, NXT star works dark match, Punk strikes fan, Questions on Savage-Hogan, Raw's ratings, a gay wrestler, and the true Vince

John Cena was on Live with Kelly.

The 10/5 Smackdown drew a 1.74. Not as good as they'd like.

Brian Gerwitz has been replaced as the lead writer of Raw. David Kapoor, better known as Ranjin Singh, replaced him. Hopefully that means we'll see better shows.

Xavier Woods beat Michael McGillicutty ahead of the 10/8 Raw. Woods wrestled as Consequences Creed in TNA.

Hornswoggle surgery, Questions on midcard titles, hating WWE, Aces and 8s, SNME, and Hogan

Hornswoggle underwent surgery to have his gallbladder removed. There's no timetable for his return.

For my take on the 10/7 PWInsider.com questions:
1. I suspect we'll see them defended there from time to time, but I doubt there'll be an initiative to make them more important.

2. I do wonder why some people watch WWE as much as they crap on it. I watch TNA because I cover it and want it to be better. I imagine the latter reason is why others keep watching shows they dislike.

Everything else from 10/7 is after the break.

Saturday Morning Slam Reax - 10/6/12, inside WWE magazine, NXT stars work live events, Jericho and Hawkins updates, and Questions on Sky, Eve, Beth Phoenix, Devon, and the Hall of Fame

Saturday Morning Slam:
This show is freakin' terrible. The match outside of the comedy bits was pretty grand, but the shenanigans lessened how good it was.

A former writer for WWE Magazine was interviewed. Interesting read.

Dean Ambrose worked losing efforts against Santino Marella on the weekend of 10/5. He's got a lot of hype to live up to.

On those same house shows, Xavier Woods lost to Tensai.

Everything else from 10/6 is after the break.

Interview with Jeff Hardy, 10/4 Impact rating, and Questions on HHH, Main Event, Hogan, Eve, and extreme matches

Jeff Hardy was on Between The Ropes. This is more than his second chance.

The 10/4 Impact did a 0.84. Not good.

For my take on the 10/5 PWInsider.com questions:
1. I expect we'll see HHH at Mania. He can't stay out of the spotlight forever.

2. I loved it! It was something PPV-quality on free TV. I suspect it will end up another Superstars/SMS at some point, but it's good to watch while it lasts.

Main Event Reax- 10/3/12/Interviews with King Mo/Jeff Hardy/Nash, and Questions on an announcers' DVD, Adamle, Lawler, Feinstein, and a gay storyline

Main Event:
Good set-up for Punk's match.

And a good response by Sheamus.

Pretty awesome match-up, but I expected nothing less from a Mania-worthy encounter.

Good interviews with Punk and Show.

Not a bad tag match.

Everything else from 10/3 is after the break!

Top TNA star's contract ending soon, 10/1 Raw rating, and Questions on Night of Champions, house shows, WWE storage, and Aces and Eights

Jeff Hardy's TNA contract is coming up in early 2013. There's no guarantee that he'll re-sign. It's hard to think of a wrestling world without Jeff Hardy.

The 10/1 Raw drew a 2.54 rating. M'aidez! I hope USA's happy with the decision to go to 3 hours because it isn't working out well.

For my take on the 10/2 PWInsider.com questions:
1. Maybe he thought the referee was counting Punk down and not him? And yes, they should wait for the ref to signal the winner before playing the music and announcing it.

2. I suppose they could buy ad time with local TV stations during their own show. They're right, though, about it taking care of itself when business is hot.

Everything else from 10/2 is after the break!

Questions on Hogan, WWE Main Event, Kelly Kelly, Joe, and Del Rey

For my take on the 9/30 PWInsider.com questions:
1. Anything regarding Hogan makes me cringe these days. He should not be a focal point of a show in 2012 unless he's drawing enough ratings and interest to justify his paycheck.

2. It's all about the money for WWE. People are already being stretched thin and now they have to make even more programming.

Everything else from 9/30 is after the break.

Saturday Morning Slam Reax-9/29/12/9/27 Impact rating, WWE tryout, Questions on Ryback, ICP, the indies, and Lesnar vs. Rock

Saturday Morning Slam:
This show is just bad TV. That match was painful to watch. I hope this isn't the direction WWE's headed.

The 9/27 Impact got a 0.99. Not big numbers for a show with a lot of Hogan and Sting. Maybe it's time to put them out to pasture.

WWE recently held a tryout camp at NXT. More on this as it comes out.

For my take on the 9/29 PWInsider.com questions:
1. Too much, too soon. Yet they'll be surprised if he doesn't pull out a main-event worthy match.

Everything else from 9/29 is after the break.

NXT Diva resigns, NXT profiled, Kelly Kelly released, and Questions on the Hall of Fame and AXXESS

Raquel Diaz, the daughter of Eddie and Vickie Guerrero, has asked for and received her release from NXT. That's a shame, as I'd heard good things about her work.

The Miami Herald profiled WWE NXT. Sounds like an awesome opportunity.

WWE has officially released Kelly Kelly. I know she wasn't particularly known for her ring skills, but I think she got over pretty well. I imagine she wants to move on to something else.

Former WWE writer Court Bauer discussed John Cena's surgery.

WWE has officially signed indie stars PAC and Sara Del Rey. I've heard good things about both, so I hope they bring a lot to the table.

Homicide talked about TNA, ROH, and more.

For my take on the 9/26 PWInsider.com questions:
1. He's pretty close to the top as it is. I wouldn't mind a title reign, but think it might be better for them to build up the next generation.

The 9/24 Raw got a 2.72 rating. OUCH.

The dark match of the 9/25 Smackdown taping saw Johnny Curtis defeat Michael McGillicutty.

For my take on the 9/25 PWInsider.com questions:
1. They did the best they could with a difficult situation. As a fan, I'm glad they continued the show. I can understand why they would be hesitant to do so, though.

Big piece on Lawler, Interview with Punk, and Questions on Daniels, PG WWE, Punk vs. Austin, and Chyna

The Miami Herald had a big piece on Jerry Lawler's heart attack with comments from WWE, TNA, and indie sources: Part 1 Part 2 Very good read.

C.M. Punk talked about his current run. This man gets wrestling.

For my take on the 9/24 PWInsider.com questions:
1. I've always found him overrated. I think TNA can and will do better.

2. What they said, plus Linda McMahon's political campaigns. Her opponents love to bring up the kind of thing WWE has done in the past. They don't see it as good TV.

Interview with Blanchard, WWE strikes talent exchange deal, Questions on Mickie, part-timers, and women's wrestling

Tully Blanchard talked about the Horsemen, heat with JBL, and more.

WWE has struck a talent exchange deal with All-Japan Pro Wrestling. That opens some pretty cool doors. I hope they find some talented stars there.

For my take on the 9/20 PWInsider.com questions:
1. I'm not complaining that they're going in the direction they're going. Mickie was getting stale.

2. There's also the argument that they'll get a lot of attention from the big mainstream names winning the gold. It's something to think about.

For my take on the 9/16 PWInsider.com questions:
1. Wow. Yeah, not sure how that made it past the WWE radar. I see why they edit things to fit the company's vision for 2012, but I'm generally not in favor of that kind of censorship. As a business decision, they don't want to be associated with anything like that!

2. That's going to be INSANE. I think they should take that into account for both fans and performers if they want a good gate. I don't see it hurting attendance too much, though. It's WrestleMania!

Read on for my thoughts on the 9/13 Superstars and Impact Wrestling.

Eve interview, dark match, Questions on managers, Cena, Taker, and stories

Eve Torres was interviewed before a live event.

NXT's Roman Reigns defeated Heath Slater ahead of the 9/11 Smackdown taping.

For my take on the 9/12 PWInsider.com questions:
1. I miss them, too. If they could cut good promos for people, that'd be great.

2. That is suspicious! I wouldn't say it makes him a sloppy worker in of itself but that's definitely something to think about.

Everything else from 9/12 (!) is after the break.

Update

Here's why I haven't posted in a while: this semester I moved into a residential college from a community college and it's been something of a rough transition. Basically I don't think it's the college for me and am strongly thinking of transferring at the end of the semester. So, all my free time is being used to research colleges to go to next semester. Even if I end up staying, it will help me determine where I want to go to once I get my Associate's degree. I have a LOT of schooling left from the sound of things and I want to spend my time at a college that's a good fit for me. I am researching this as heavily as I'd study wrestling. I will be back once things settle down! Sorry for not updating sooner!
