All In raffle, Dolph updates, Interviews with Sting/Becky/Alexa, Foley honored in baseball, Flip and Swann sign new deals, MYC additions and substraction, meet HHH+Stephanie, Rey's All In match announced, Zelina's SDL debut tonight, 205 Live injuries, WWE YouTube milestone, another Elias bonus clip, cruiser title match at Summerslam, Raw guests, and Questions on when to make SDL more prominent, Braun cashing in pre-Summerslam, an all women's show, Don West turning heel, and women's referees at Evolution

All In tickets are being raffled by Pro Wrestling Tees. The demand for this event is unlike anything I've seen in outside of WWE.

Dolph Ziggler appeared on Comedy Central's "Roast Battle" against Sarah Tiana. Eh.

- Dolph missed this weekend's Raw live events due to having his birthday weekend off.

Sting is on Lilian Garcia's latest podcast, with highlights here. I know he had talked at some point about not trusting WWE to book him well given how they used other WCW stars. As for him facing Taker, it definitely wouldn't be what it could have been even ten years ago, but I suppose it could work at something like the Greatest Royal Rumble or Superstar Show-Down.

Becky Lynch is on Jim Ross' latest podcast.

Mick Foley is being honored by a New York minor league baseball team. That's an interesting combination.

Flip Gordon has signed a two-year contract with ROH. He can be a standout star there. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see him scouted by WWE after that deal ends.

Vernice Gabriel is no longer part of the Mae Young Classic for unknown reasons. We'll see if she ends up being used by WWE down the line.

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon will meet with fans the Friday before Summerslam to raise money for Connor's Cure.

Rey Mysterio will team with Rey Fenix and Bandido against Kota Ibushi and the Young Bucks at All In.

Zelina Vega vs. Lana is official for Smackdown Live. I hope Vega can get regular work in the ring.

Madison (Ashley) Rayne, SHINE's Priscilla Kelly, and Stardom's Xia Brookside (daughter of Robbie) have been announced for the Mae Young Classic. Good to see Madison get that opportunity.

Mustafa Ali was recently in the hospital. I hope he doesn't miss long.

WWE has passed 30 million YouTube subscribers. That will almost certainly be brought up at the next conference call.

Alexa Bliss discussed Evolution and more. She could pretty much do what she does now as a babyface. The crowd loves her.

Elias' documentary had another bonus clip released.

Cedric Alexander vs. Drew Gulak is set for Summerslam. That's a pleasant surprise! They'll be solid.

Lince Dorado has ruptured a ligament in his thumb and will be wearing a cast going forward. It isn't expected he'll miss ring time.

Rich Swann has signed a new long-term deal with Impact Wrestling. I hope he can really excel there, inside and outside the X-Division.

The Rock's mom and daughter were ringside at Raw in Miami. They often attend WWE shows there.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I concur. The biggest time to change things is the Shakeup after WM35. There's plenty of time to make it all work out.

2. Braun might have tried, but that darn Kevin Owens took his briefcase before he could!! I don't see them changing the announced Summerslam main event, although of course we could see a cash-in that night or the night after.

3. I think that could overexpose the women. That said, turning Main Event into "MYC Live" with talents who aren't already on Raw, Smackdown Live, or NXT is an idea worth looking at.

4. Some of it was wanting there to be a face commentator and heel commentator, like most teams. I want to say the original turn promo was also based on a shoot situation where Impact wanted to cut costs and Tenay didn't stand up for keeping West. Russo being Russo turned it into an on-screen angle. I was entertained by heel West in a trainwreck way.

5. Absolutely. Referees, announce team, the whole nine yards if possible.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Raw Reax - 7/30/18

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Raw.

Monday, July 30, 2018

Interview with Ember, walk NYC with Elias, WWE live event notes, January Takeover confirmed, and Questions on how/if the Extreme Rules crowd changed Vince's mind, NXT's profitability or lack thereof, NXT live, favorite titles, and Dunn's favorites

Ember Moon promoted a Raw live event. I hope she has a big future ahead of her. With so many other talented women already on Raw and Smackdown Live, she's having trouble being featured.

Elias' documentary has a bonus clip.

Raw's July 29 live event in Florida opened with a 10-bell salute for Nikolai Volkoff. Glad to see them respect the legend like that.

- NXT did the same in Arizona for Volkoff and Brian Christopher.

Sarah Logan wasn't at this weekend's Raw live events. Alicia Fox teamed with Liv Morgan in losses to Bayley and Sasha Banks.

Takeover: Phoenix was confirmed for Royal Rumble weekend during NXT's live event in Arizona Sunday night.

Lana seems to have turned face, as she teamed with Becky Lynch in a win over Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville on Smackdown Live's Pennsylvania live event.

- Rusev was also booked as a face on the show, defeating Andrade "Cien" Almas.

R-Truth returned to live events this weekend, defeating Shelton Benjamin in Pennsylvania.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Vince has wanted Roman to be the guy and beat Brock for a long time now. If anything, he gave in to the beachballers in regards to booking Roman at WM34, GRR, and Extreme Rules. I hope he realizes now those audience members are going to pay to ruin shows no matter what he does, so he might as well book the product he wants to book and tell Triple H to reevaluate his approach in appealing to a crowd that's largely there to get themselves over.

2. Unfortunately he's had to concede to those audience members in a lot of ways because Triple H has spent years recruiting and booking with them in mind.

3. When NXT started touring outside Florida, it was reported talents weren't paid a percentage of the live gate like they would be if they were on Raw and Smackdown Live because of the costs involved in maintaining the brand. WWE has very deliberately not included NXT in their financial releases, instead putting it all under operating costs. If WWE wants to throw even more money at an idea that will likely not increase Network subscriptions one iota, they have that option. I just don't see why they would unless FS1 requests it as part of airing the show.

4. I love some of the really old belts, the NWA World Championship, and Big Gold. Some of the '90s belts are good, too.

5. Dunn likes Hornswoggle at least. I think he generally prefers interesting characters with good facial expressions. If he does a lot of long zooms on a character, he probably likes them.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Nikolai Volkoff, Grandmaster Sexay and Brickhouse Brown pass away

Read on for news and condolences regarding these three superstars.

Main Event Reax - 7/28/18, Interviews with Konnan/Gargano, Elias documentary on WWE Network soon, WWE promotes PROGESS/EVOLVE tour, Starrcast schedule released, more ROH UK matches, BFG ad note, NXT live event note, and Questions on the Harts honoring Owen, Sable's whereabouts, WWE collectibles, and Summerslam options

-- Main Event:
- Ryder vs. Kanellis:
This isn't bad so far.

They're telling a fine story.

Fine match overall.

- Ascension vs. Jose/Gable:
I didn't realize I wanted a Jose/Gable team until now.

Honestly they might as well make the Ascension goofy at this point. I ain't even mad.

This isn't bad.

Pretty solid overall.

Konnan put Impact over on his most recent podcast, praising the booking, video packages, and changes in venue. They're definitely putting things together well now.

An Elias documentary will follow Monday's Raw.

Johnny Gargano promoted NXT's Sunday live event in Arizona. I'm curious where he goes from here. There are going to be high expectations post-NXT.

WWE promoted PROGRESS and EVOLVE's August U.S. tour, featuring NXT UK stars. It's still wild to see them actively promoting outside companies, but they're WWE partners at this point.

Starrcast's full schedule was released. There's some pretty interesting stuff there.

Punishment Martinez vs. Delirious in a Proving Ground match and Tenille Dashwood vs. Chardonnay have been booked for ROH Re-United's August 18 event. I'm surprised Delirious doesn't book himself more often. At least it's probably just going to put Punishment over.

The Bound For Glory ad apparently has hidden messages. Hopefully we'll know more going forward.

Drew Gulak worked NXT's July 28 Florida live event, defeating Dan Matha. Matha is much more than 205 pounds. I'm a little surprised they protected Gulak against someone that big.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. The other Harts can absolutely honor Owen however they want.  If WWE wanted to have Bret et al induct Owen, they could do so, but they don't want to stir up any further animosity with Martha.

2. She's completely moved on from the business and being Sable. She has been at UFC events at times, including UFC 200.

Not much to add to 3.a. and I don't collect anything really or spend money on much of anything of the sort. I enjoy wrestling, but it doesn't dominate my life.

4. I absolutely think all of those things are potential directions other than Brock vs. Roman not going on last. That's the match everyone's going to be talking about one way or another.

Nothing to add to 5 or 6.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Saturday, July 28, 2018

Podcast notes, Vince-XFL update, new MYC competitor announced, Strong's NXT birthday, Interviews with Charlotte/Ronda, Lawler having Memphis guests, another WWE series from Camp WWE creators, NFL player homages Austin, Impact audience, Raw+NXT live event notes, and Questions on G1 vs. Takeover head-to-head, MLW not acknowledging Impact, WWE positioning SDL better, Vince being absent from FOX negotiations, and Hanson's pre-WWE life

Beth Phoenix discussed WWE Evolution and more on Edge and Christian's podcast.

Ultimo Dragon is on Chris Jericho's latest podcast.

WWE's latest financial filing discusses Alpha Entertainment and the XFL, indicating Vince McMahon "shall devote substantially all of his full working time to the business and affairs of" WWE, but he "may engage in such other business and charitable activities that, in the good faith judgment of the Board, do not violate Section 8, create a conflict of interest or the appearance of a conflict of interest with (WWE) or materially interfere with the performance of his obligations to (WWE)." So, he's going to remain hands-on in WWE while developing the XFL. I don't think anyone expected him to resign or anything else drastic. We'll see how he's able to balance all his responsibilities.

MYC competitor Meiko Satomura discussed competing in the series. WWE has definitely recruited around the globe for the competition.

Roderick Strong discussed spending his birthday wrestling for NXT. That's pretty cool.

Charlotte Flair discussed WWE Evolution and more.

Jerry Lawler's Memphis TV show will feature Dave Brown, Bert Prentice, Tom Nunnery, Brian Christopher, Antonio Braxton, Koko B. Ware, Bill Dundee, Doug Gilbert, Jerry Calhoun, and Randy Hales as guests in the coming months. I hope the Christopher appearance goes well given Brian's recent issues.

Camp WWE's creators have another series coming. I'm not sure if that's better or worse than WWE's usual comedy.

WWE's financial success was covered in Stamford.

Ronda Rousey talked to Cosmopolitan.

Pittsburgh NFL player Vince Williams channeled Stone Cold as he arrived at training camp. It's missing something without the music. Hopefully they recreate it better later.

Impact Wrestling drew 299,000 viewers for the post-Slammiversary episode. That's up from last week, but not by a huge margin.

At NXT's July 27 live event in Florida:
- Boa returned to the ring for the first time since May, losing to Jeet Rama.
- Keith Lee worked his first live event, defeating Dan Matha. No shock he's already on the road.
- Tony Nese defeated Raul Mendoza. Nese occasionally works NXT shows.

At Raw's July 27 live event in Ohio:
- Zack Ryder teamed with Chad Gable in a loss to the Authors of Pain.
- Jinder Mahal teamed with Drew McIntyre in a loss to Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. Dolph Ziggler wasn't on the show.

Tyler Breeze worked NXT's July 27 event in California, losing to Adam Cole with the North American Championship on the line.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. That's a really smart idea from Mike. I think there will be plenty of fans to attend both Saturday events either way, but it could definitely benefit the G1 Special if fans don't have to choose one event over the other.

2. I see both sides of this. It would obviously benefit MLW to say they've got certain prominent titleholders from Impact, but they also don't want to draw too much attention to other wrestling companies since they're building their own brand.

3. I'm sure they'll start making changes as the move gets closer. Right now, though, Raw is still the top show. Maybe once (if?) Brock loses the title and heads to UFC, WWE will start to make things more even.

4. It is something of a passing of the torch in some ways, as those names will be the future of WWE Corporate. Vince is still absolutely the captain of the ship, however, and will continue to be for some time to come.

5. Hanson is from Massachusetts, so it's unlikely he went to high school in Wisconsin.

More wrestling tomorrow.

AJ DVD lineup, Moose hurt, Omega working through injury, Mexican promotions working together, Callis missing NJPW dates for Impact, Arquette injured, Punk scouted for return, more on Shelley's status, another All In name, Cobb update, Beretta update, Impact changes UK home, Impact name signs new deal, WWE interested in NJPW and LU names, Rock-WM35 update, WWE planning Starrcade return, Mexican names to WWE soon?, Mojo working hurt, Paige back on reality shows, NXT interviewer speaks, more on Truth surgery, more vintage WWE Network content, Kelley speaks at SDCC, ONO set with indie promotion, another MYC name confirmed, Goldust honored in Texas, more Evolution press, Aries working backstage for newly televised promotion, NXT return, MMA name makes NXT debut, and Questions on 205 Live's future with the FOX deal, Martha working WWE, low blows everywhere, and Purrazzo's WWE status

WWE's AJ Styles DVD lineup has been revealed. It's telling they're doing a three discs of matches for someone who hasn't even been in the company three years. It doesn't look like we'll get any footage from outside WWE on this release, but I wouldn't be shocked to see that down the line if this sells well.

Moose suffered a concussion at Slammiversary, and was not able to work the following TV tapings. I don't get the feeling they changed plans for his match with Aries because of this.

Kenny Omega is working through a small fracture on his heel. He's got an incredibly tough schedule right now, so I hope he can keep it together.

CMLL and The Crash are now working together, with talents able to work both promotions. That's good to see.

Don Callis will work Impact's August 12 and 13 events rather than the NJPW events going on at the same time. Rocky Romero will replace him on commentary. With Callis' key role in Impact, I see why he's needed there instead.

David Arquette fractured two ribs in his first match back. He did a plancha and hurricanrana during that match. I hope he doesn't hurt himself further.

C.M. Punk is being scouted for the G1 Special in Madison Square Garden. That would definitely be huge, but I don't expect it to happen.

Alex Shelley is believed to have retired following reports of him taking the rest of 2018 off to finish school for physical therapy. We'll see what things look like once he completes school and is healthy enough to wrestle again.

Bandido is now set for All In.

Jeff Cobb is booked for a number of ROH dates, but does not have a full contract. His goal is to work NJPW, which of course would let him be an ROH star as well.

Beretta should be back full-time in ROH and NJPW following surgery. It's good to see the Best Friends work together again.

Impact has changed channels in the UK to Showcase. Showcase is available in a lot fewer homes than Spike was.

Abyss has signed a new deal with Impact, presumably in a backstage role.

WWE is interested in Juice Robinson, the former CJ Parker, who is not under a full contract with NJPW. I'm curious how he'd do in a second run in NXT.

- WWE is also interested in LU's Angelico.

The Rock is interested in wrestling at WrestleMania 35 if his schedule will allow it. It could be a situation where he works with someone like Elias rather than it being a match at the level of his work with Cena and Punk. It would definitely be big for WWE to feature him again.

WWE is looking to trademark Starrcade, so they'll likely do another event under that name in November. It was a hit last time.

Ultimo Ninja is expected to join WWE soon. Garza Jr. is also believed to be coming in with him.

Mojo Rawley is working through an unspecified leg injury. He's doing pretty well for himself push-wise right now, so I see why he's working through it.

Paige is returning to "Total Divas" for the next season. She's front and center en route to The Rock's biopic of her.

NXT's Sarah Schneider spoke to WWE.com. It's good to see them hiring people with a passion for wrestling now.

R-Truth showed his recent shoulder surgeries.

WWE Network has added more home video releases to the vault:
- 1985's Andre the Giant and Roddy Piper
- 1986's Ricky Steamboat and Lou Albano
- 1994's The Undertaker and Bret Hart

Cathy Kelley spoke at San Diego Comic Con. She's been a great host for WWE panels and the like.

Impact Wrestling is doing a One Night Only show with Xcite Wrestling on August 25. Eddie Edwards, Moose, Eli Drake, LAX, Alisha Edwards, Fallah Bahh, and KM have all been announced for the event. A lot of the TV regulars aren't under exclusive contracts, so it's pretty much just these names on events like this.

Toni Storm has been confirmed for the Mae Young Classic. I expect she'll be a focal point of NXT:UK.

Goldust became an honorary sheriff in Texas. That's great! I'm glad he's able to walk around well enough to be honored there.

Evolution got press in Denver.

Austin Aries will be working on creative and other behind-the-scenes roles for Ring Warriors, the series coming to WGN America soon. It will be interesting to see what he makes of the show, which will be available in a lot more U.S. homes than any company other than WWE. Of course, being on early Saturday mornings means they won't reach but a small number of the people who get the channel.

Tyler Breeze worked NXT's July 26 show in California, losing to the returning Lars Sullivan. I don't expect him to return full-time, but it's nice to see him make a cameo.

Marina Shafir debuted in NXT on July 26, teaming with Nikki Cross to defeat Aliyah and Rhea Ripley. Jessamyn Duke did not compete as advertised. I wonder if they put Nikki there in her place last minute to have someone more experienced to lead the match. I expect we'll see Duke before long either way.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Basically 205 Live isn't a huge priority. I think the easiest solution would be to keep it after SDL on Friday nights, since people can watch it on-demand at any time anyway. If they go to the huge (unnecessary?) expense of doing NXT live weekly, they could do 205 Live after that. That would give fans two hours of live content at Full Sail and on the Network. Or hey, maybe they make NXT two hours a week and just fold the 205 Live roster into that? There are a lot of possibilities that depend on how much they want to use those talents and that show.

2. I don't think Martha wants any part of anything WWE can profit from. How many people want their husband's killer to promote the image of their dead spouse?

Nothing to add to 3.

4. I don't necessarily see it as Aries and Bully taking off what Nakamura's doing. There are only so many ways to be a heel in wrestling. And, yes, you'd think eventually opponents would catch on and wear a cup.

5. She's joined the WWE Performance Center and will be part of the Mae Young Classic. From there the plan is for her to eventually be on NXT TV like their other signings.

More wrestling tomorrow.

WWE Q2 2018 Reax

Read on for my thoughts on WWE's latest financial release.

Impact Wrestling Reax - 7/26/18

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Impact Wrestling.

Thursday, July 26, 2018

Vintage WWE Network additions, Flair edition of WWE 2K19, Vince honored, more MYC workers, Titus lawsuit update, assorted WWE press, Titus on Hogan apology, SDCC interviews, SDL and Miz/Mrs audiences, Global Wars set, and Questions on using the new TV deals to keep Brock in WWE, a Summerslam weekend cash-in, low blow Shinsuke, how WWE sees Ellsworth, and disrupting Extreme Rules

WWE Network is now adding Coliseum Home Video releases to its VOD section. The first set included:
- 1985 and 1989 Hulk Hogan videos
- 1986 Bruno Sammartino and Randy Savage/Miss Elizabeth videos
- 1987 George "The Animal" Steele, Hart Foundation, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, and Ken Patera videos
- 1989 "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan videos
- 1993 Bret Hart and British Bulldog videos

WWE 2K19 will have a Ric Flair-themed edition. The edition will recreate Flair's rivalries with Roddy Piper, Dusty Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat, Randy Savage, and The Undertaker, and will include Starrcade 1983 as an arena on top of a replica WWE Hall of Fame ring, a Flair Funko Pop! figure, and, for a special limited edition, a plaque featuring a piece of a robe. With Flair's health scare, they made a plan to honor the legend sooner rather than later.

WWE's latest Hidden Gems, honoring the Poffo Familiy, are:
- Pat Patterson vs. Angelo Poffo from Championship Wrestling from Florida in 1977
- Randy Savage and Magnum TA vs. The Mongolians from GCW in 1983
- Nick Bockwinkel vs. Lanny Poffo from Pro Wrestling USA in 1984

Vince McMahon was honored by Adweek as one of the 100 most cutting-edge CEOs, due to the big TV deals WWE signed.

The Mae Young Classic has added Puerto Rico's Zeuxis, NXT UK's Isla Dawn, recent WWEPC signing Lacey Lane, and China's occasional WOH competitor Karen Q.

Titus O'Neil has a mediation conference scheduled in his "Swerved" lawsuit set for January 9 in Florida. That's a loooooonnnnngggggg time to keep the lawsuit going. It's possible WWE and Titus are trying to get it dropped due to its costliness.

Maria Kanellis will report to the WWE Performance Center soon to train for her TV return. I don't expect her to wrestle regularly, but she's looking to get back into shape post-pregnancy.

Mickie James promoted WWE and her music. An Elias/Mickie pairing could be pretty fun.

Smackdown Live got press for Saturday's live event.

Adam Cole's Twitter account was briefly hacked by someone looking to make money from selling his information. Cole has since recovered it.

Titus O'Neil spoke about Hulk Hogan's apology and more on Busted Open. I hope WWE listens to their minority performers on this.

Rey Mysterio, AJ Styles, and Becky Lynch spoke at San Diego Comic Con. Rey expects to have a pretty long career, it seems. I would have thought he would have been retired by now, but he's going to keep on going.

Smackdown Live drew 2.34 million viewers, a slight boost from last week.

"Miz and Mrs" debuted with 1.47 million viewers. That's a pretty impressive number of fans kept from SDL. For comparison, NXT on USA Network drew 841,000 viewers and the most recent "Total Bellas" drew 610,000 viewers.

ROH and NJPW Global Wars is set for:
- November 7 in Maine
- November 8 in Massachusetts
- November 9 in New York
- November 11 in Ontario
-- No talent has been announced at this time. Those are generally pretty successful events for ROH. We'll see how they do in 2018.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Did Paul Heyman send in this question?? As was alluded to, I think he'd actually be more valuable going to UFC for a while. They've really stretched his character and storyline at this point. It's time for both sides to have something fresh. I think that money will be better spent on developing the future of the company, with more recruitment and development around the globe. They also need to invest in content and strategies that will increase Network subscriptions. That really needs to be a priority. And, of course, they need to compensate the people whose work, on-screen and off, got them those big TV deals in the first place.

2. It wouldn't shock me in the least if they had a cash-in either at Summerslam or the next night on Raw. They're clearly hesitant to put the title on Roman.

3. WWE has really struggled to figure out how to feature Nakamura. He obviously doesn't fit in with usual mold of a WWE superstar, so they've had to balance what worked pre-WWE with something people who don't watch NJPW or NXT (i.e. most of the audience) can get behind. It's really shown the disconnect between Triple H's approach to recruiting and focusing on talent and Vince's vision for superstars.

4. They clearly liked him well enough to keep him around as long as they did and then bring him back. He really got a lot from what was originally presumably going to just be one squash match.

5. Fans watch WWE to see the performers in the ring, not the people in the crowd. WWE has been far too lenient with letting the disrupters dictate the show. I hope Vince got the message that beachballers are going to do what they do no matter what he books, so he might as well book what he thinks the audience as a whole will like.

More wrestling tomorrow.

NXT and ROH Reax - 7/25/18

Read on for my thoughts on last night's NXT and ROH.

Wednesday, July 25, 2018

Cyborg vs. Rousey?, assorted WWE press, Interviews with Rollins/Stephanie/Elias, how SDL talents made it to Raw, Evolution travel issues, WWE video games getting more investment, Attitude Era star arrested again, AJ DVD trailer, SDL star impresses Management, MMA stars debuting in NXT soon, Riddle updates, and a Question on inaccurate reporting

MMA's Cris Cyborg discussed potentially wrestling Ronda Rousey. I'm starting to think we're going to see more names choose wrestling over MMA.

Finn Balor appeared in a UK star's music video. Miles Kane's album has the same name as Balor's double stomp finisher. It's good to see WWE is cool enough to cross over like that again.

O.A.R. was backstage at Raw ahead of working with Connor's Cure.

Seth Rollins discussed Extreme Rules and more with Lilian Garcia. Here are highlights. A certain subset of fans have really hijacked the business at the expense of the majority of the crowd. With Triple H increasingly catering to them, that's only going to get worse.

Stephanie McMahon talked to Sky Sports about Evolution, putting WWE over pretty heavily. I absolutely think Ronda vs. Charlotte could headline WrestleMania if presented well.

Smackdown Live talents were flown to Raw and back on WWE's corporate jet in order to attend the Evolution announcement. That's pretty cool.

Evolution in New York will precede a Raw in North Carolina, which could lead to issues from a production standpoint given the long travel between the two venues.

WWE's video game franchise will get increased investment from 2K. It will be interesting to see what that involves.

Elias promoted his new album and more. It's nice to see him getting press outside of WWE.

WWE showed footage of creating their action figures. That's always cool to see.

Raw drew 2.78 million viewers Monday, somewhat dropping from last week despite the advertised Extreme Rules rematch headlining.

The former Grandmaster Sexay was arrested earlier this month for DUI and evading the police. This follows a previous arrest in June. He could really use some help.

Mark Andrews' band has released a new single. If he wasn't in a different weight class, there's a natural feud with Elias there.

AJ Styles' upcoming WWE DVD got a trailer. He and Samoa Joe are the only names I'm aware of with DVDs from WWE, Impact, and ROH. That's really special.

Andrade Almas impressed WWE Management during his match with AJ Styles. Good to see them realizing what people watching his NXT title reign saw. Better late than never.

MMA stars Marina Sharif and Jessamyn Duke will debut for NXT Thursday night at a Florida live event. I'm interested to see them when they make it to TV.

Matt Riddle has pulled out of a California independent date this weekend, but will work his scheduled EVOLVE dates for August. It's increasingly expected he'll be starting with NXT soon, likely appearing in some form at Takeover: Brooklyn.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com question:
1. Dave did a great job here of discussing the issue from all sides. I really can't add much beyond the practice of giving reporters a self-serving story might not be remedied by having more than one source if those sources are on the same side. If two (or more) individuals want to paint a certain narrative of what's going on, they can and will try to get that story out there. Some people are all too eager to put themselves and their friends over to the audience that reads wrestling news sites.

More wrestling coming up.

Smackdown Live and 205 Live Reax - 7/24/18

Read on for my thoughts on last night's SD Live and 205 Live.

Tuesday, July 24, 2018

Slammiversary notes, NXT preview, WWEPC signing gets press, new WWE gaming series, WM34 behind-the-scenes book coming out, Summerslam contest, Raw promotion, SDL 1000 in the works, top indie name to NXT soon?, another Viceland subject, Savage promoted at baseball game, All In match announced, another title in WWE?, Smackdown Live live event note, Evolution plans and press, another nationally televised promotion coming soon, top WWE executives sell stock, Raw matches set, and Questions on G1 vs. Takeover, WWE doing tournaments, Lashley vs. Lesnar, using Hogan going forward, and WWE having network TV specials

Impact had a live Analyze This podcast on Twitch following Slammiversary.

NXT this week will feature:
- Aleister Black vs. Tommaso Ciampa for the NXT Championship
- Adam Cole vs. Sean Maluta
- Lacey Evans in action and more.

WWEPC signing Stacey Ervin got local press. I'm curious to see how he'll do. I wouldn't be shocked to see him get a "more masculine name" unless they think he's known well enough under his current name.

UpUpDownDown has launched a Dungeons & Dragons series. It's good to see wrestlers doing things to get themselves an audience when they're not on TV.

WrestleMania 34's build will be covered in a book releasing on August 7. Writers and producers are interviewed in addition to the workers themselves. That sounds particularly interesting.

Summerslam weekend has a sweepstakes with Tap Sports Baseball.

Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre promoted Raw on local TV.

The 1000th episode of Smackdown Live is set for October 16 in Washington, DC. WWE is making plans for it to be a big event. It will be interesting to see what they do for the show.

Petey Williams was originally going to work backstage at Slammiversary. We'll see if/how he slides into an office role there going forward.

Impact ran a promotion where fans who attended the local MLB game where Johnny Impact threw out the first pitch could attend Monday's TV taping for free. That's a fine move to get people in the door.

The former Santino Marella was backstage at Slammiversary ahead of working this week's TV tapings.

Matt Riddle is being scouted by both WWE and NJPW, with him pulling out of events in Ireland on the same weekend as Takeover:Brooklyn. Riddle has really made a name for himself in EVOLVE and elsewhere following the end of his UFC career, and is currently EVOLVE's champion.

- Riddle will no longer be part of PWG's Battle of Los Angeles, suggesting he has signed to WWE. Trevor Lee will be replacing him. It's unfortunate they won't let him finish what he's already agreed to wrestle, but I understand why they want to start using him immediately.

Gino Hernandez will be the subject of a Viceland documentary.

Randy Savage bobbleheads were given out by a minor league baseball team in Florida. WWE isn't involved.

Adam Page vs. Joey Janela is official for All In. I like the combinations of workers on the show.

WWE is believed to be working on designs for at least one women's tag team championship. I think having one set across Raw and Smackdown Live would be enough. There are definitely a lot of female workers not doing anything from a creative perspective.

Nikki Cross worked this weekend's Smackdown Live live events. We'll certainly see her at Evolution.

Announced for WWE Evolution, on top of the usual Raw and Smackdown Live talents:
- Ronda Rousey
- Trish Stratus
- Beth Phoenix
- The Mae Young Classic's finals
- the NXT Women's Championship on the line
- the NXT UK Women's Championship on the line

- WWE released an official press release on the show. This will be a significant event for the company, and will hopefully be a draw where a different October PPV might not be as successful.

- Triple H and Stephanie McMahon spoke to ESPN about the event. I definitely don't see it as a make-good for the Greatest Royal Rumble, as there has been a push for a greater role for women for years now.

WGN America will soon feature Ring Warriors, a promotion whose August 8-9 TV tapings in Nevada will feature Austin Aries, Eli Drake, Marty the Moth, Michael Tarver, Wes Brisco, Luke Hawx, the Hotshots (Chase Stevens and Cassidy Riley), Melissa Anderson, Santana Garrett, and more.

- The show debuts Saturday September 15 at 8:00 a.m. That's an interesting timeslot. We'll see how it does.

- Ring Warriors' commentary team will be Blake Chadwick and Larry Brannon. "Killer" Ken Resnick will be conducting interviews for the series.

Top WWE executives recently sold significant quantities of company stock. Kevin Dunn, Michelle Wilson, and George Barrios all sold more than 120,000 shares, while Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, and WWE Studios' Michael Luisi all sold more than 16,000 shares. As high as the stock price is right now, it was a good time to make a lot of cash from the sale.

Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre and Finn Balor vs. Baron Corbin have been set for Raw. I'm looking forward to one (and only one) of those matches.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. YOU SEE NORMALLY WHEN YOU GO ONE ON ONE WITH THE WWE, YOU GOT A 8 1/3 CHANCE OF SELLIN OUT. BUT THE G1 SPECIAL IS ON WRESTLEMANIA WEEKEND, AND THAT AIN'T NORMAL! YOU SEE THE METLIFE STADIUM CAN SEAT ABOUT 80,000 FAT ASSSSSSES, BUT THE BARCLAYS CENTER CAN ONLY SEAT 16,000 AT BEST! NOW WWN KNOWS THEY CAN'T BEAT ROH AND NJPW, AND THEY'RE NOT EVEN GONNA TRY! SO THERE'S A 141 2/3 PERCENT CHANCE OF THE G1 SPECIAL HAVIN MORE THAN ENOUGH WHITE TRASH REDNECKS TO FILL UP MADISON SQUARE GARDEN. THE NUMBERS DON'T LIE, AND THEY SPELL RECORD ATTENDANCE FOR ROH. HOLLA IF YOU HEAR ME!!!

2. I mean, they did Mixed Match Challenge. I can see WWE bringing that back at least. I don't know about King of the Ring specifically, but I could see them doing a tournament again at some point.

3. Lashley vs. Lesnar would have been fresh, and at one point that was a dream match. I definitely don't think the beachballers will be happy with yet another Roman/Brock match, but Vince is determined to make it work.

4. The Hulkster needs to take a long beatdown before he can fire up and drop the big leg. I'd have him do the job at some charity events and cut promos putting over the audience directly affected by his remarks before he can run wild on Raw, Smackdown Live, or the award-winning WWE Network. The "be careful not to be taped, brother" angle needs to be dropped in favor of a "don't be a racist, jack" storyline, as well.

5. I wouldn't be shocked at all to see specials on FOX at some point. FOX is very glad to have them on board.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Raw Reax - 7/23/18

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Raw.

Monday, July 23, 2018

Assorted WWE press, Interviews with Miz+Maryse/Prichard/Ryder/Matt Hardy, Swann update, Elias' album out, Cody back on Arrow, SDL contenders tournament, more Impact TV dates and BFG set, Jeff Hardy still working, and Questions on Miz & Mrs vs. 205 Live, which companies wrestlers want to work for, USA getting Impact, Lashley vs. Lesnar in an MMA style bout, and Lacey Evans

Big Show was part of a Special Olympics presentation, representing WWE. I expect he'll be an ambassador there for quite a while to come.

The Miz and Maryse were on Sam Roberts' show. Miz has really been valuable for WWE inside and outside the arena.

Bruce Prichard talked on Busted Open about his WWE Network show and more. It's always good to hear the perspective of someone who was actually there.

Zack Ryder hung out at Funko.

Rich Swann was not at Slammiversary following his injury. I hope he's able to be back soon. He's really had his momentum stalled lately.

Elias' four-song album is now available for streaming on Spotify. I still want to see him work with Double J.

Cody is returning for several episodes of "Arrow," clearing off some of his wrestling schedule to be part of the show. He's had quite the resume since leaving WWE.

Zack Ryder and Matt Hardy spoke at San Diego Comic Con.

Smackdown Live will determine the Bludgeon Brothers' next opponents in a tournament featuring New Day, SAnitY, The Bar, and the Usos. Team Hell No is completely out of the picture now.

Roman Reigns was involved in the 2018 Nick Kid's Choice Sports Awards.

Impact Wrestling will return to the site of Slammiversary for TV tapings on August 12 and August 13. That's a really quick turnaround. I hope they can get decent crowds.

Bound For Glory is set for October 14 in New York. The venue seats 800 fans, so that gives you an idea of what they're thinking of drawing for their biggest show of the year. Interestingly, that's fewer fans than they had at Slammiversary.

Jeff Hardy is still working live events, losing to Shinsuke Nakamura before being attacked by Randy Orton. So, he's not so badly hurt that he has to pull from wrestling entirely.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Miz's show is MUCH more important. They're actually getting paid to make it, and want it to be a success. Honestly, the shows probably have two very different audiences anyway.

2. There's something to be said about working with the biggest stars on the biggest stage, even if the pay isn't a factor. Of course people get burned out working meaningless matches on the road, and would probably have more fun in NXT or somewhere else, but ultimately it is a job and is going to have its down spots like every other job.

3. I don't see that happening. I think WWE would try to stop it, for one, but even if they didn't, there'd be real skepticism USA could make Impact a hot product that could be a hit given its current place in wrestling.

4. I doubt it. It will probably be suplexes, spears, F5s, etc. WWE fans want to see a WWE-style match, after all.

5. I definitely see the potential there, and natural charisma/personality, which is critical.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Slammiversary Reax

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Impact PPV.

Sunday, July 22, 2018

Main Event Reax - 7/21/18, former WWE Champion on Honorclub, Interview with Aries, Miz and Maryse make championships, Elias concert, more Impact TV matches, Brickhouse correction, and Questions on Vince not liking juniors, inducting the Hart Foundation, an old school WWE PPV, the WWE Title having a short name, and the business of having sources

-- Main Event:
- NWJ vs. Hawkins:
Those dancers are distracting. Hawkins is trying to avoid his 209th straight loss here!

Fine work so far.

Curt should have tried for the countout.

Jose's a fine wrestler.

Nice ending.

- Slater/Rhyno/Gable vs. Revival/Kanellis:
I miss American Alpha and The Revival tearing it up in NXT.

Nice grappling here.

Gable's athleticism is insane.

I really wonder how Kanellis got hired. It had to be Maria, right?

Solid for the time it had.

ROH has added a Seth Rollins compilation to Honorclub. That's a good move to capitalize on his WWE fan base.

Austin Aries discussed his WWE run, returning to Impact, and more. Here are some highlights. I'm glad he looks at his WWE tenure so well. It definitely elevated his stock. It's also good to see him being a force for change for Impact. A lot of people have said they want to change that company. He's there actually doing it.

The Miz and Maryse made championships to promote their upcoming show.

Elias did a concert to promote his album release. They're wisely making the most of this gimmick.

Pentagon Jr. vs. Matt Sydal and Sami Callihan vs. Rey Fenix have been booked for Tuesday's Impact taping. The third night in the same venue is going to be a tougher sell, so they're announcing a lot for it up front.

Brickhouse Brown's death was announced prematurely, as he was later confirmed to still be living. He's not out of the woods by any means, but he's apparently still hanging on.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. It could definitely be him not wanting to be known as a junior himself, but it also makes a talent sound younger or smaller, or otherwise like the inferior version of the original.

2. They could definitely do that if they wanted to. I don't think Martha would give her approval, but WWE could certainly do it regardless.

3. I think they want to push it as a modern mega-show instead of playing to the nice nostalgia market. They've deliberately dropped numbers from WrestleMania so it doesn't "sound old," so that could be the same logic here. An old school PPV could be interesting, although really there are only so many people they could use for such an endeavor. I doubt many people want to see a whole show of wrestlers so far past their primes.

4. WWE Championship is a lot easier to say! I guess there's also the factor of wrestlers being smaller than they were years back, as well, but I think the main reason could be dropping all the syllables.

5. I get the feeling there are always people willing to talk to the dirtsheets, especially among younger generations who don't see it as "exposing the business." Of course, that doesn't mean their bosses are OK with it, so they usually stay anonymous.

6. Because being a source can carry negative consequences with the front office, almost all of them stay anonymous until they're out of th ebusiness, and sometimes they even continue it past then.

More wrestling coming up.

Slammiversary preview

Read on for my ideas for booking tonight's Impact PPV.

Saturday, July 21, 2018

Slammiversary hype, assorted WWE press, more MYC confirmations, historic announcement on Raw, new action figures, another ROH name working CMLL, another WOH name set for UK, WWN launches streaming of iPPVs, Impact audience, Brickhouse passes, Impact taping matches, and whether WWE could honor Owen without Martha's consent

Johnny Impact was on JR's latest podcast in something of a preview for Slammiversary.

Tommy Dreamer did a conference call before Slammiversary. He's done a remarkable job staying on the radar for so many years.

Ronda Rousey and Roman Reigns were at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Sports Awards.

Kalisto and others in WWE reacted to his infamous "good lucha thing" interview. They should have made a T-shirt out of that.

Kavita Devi is returning for this year's Mae Young Classic. WWE did an announcement in India to confirm her involvement. Her match got a large amount of YouTube views last year, so they're capitalizing on that.

- WWE later announced Mercedes Martinez, Mia Yim, Killer Kelly, and Crystal (Filipino star Vernice Gabriel). Mercedes, interestingly, just worked a joint event with Impact. Kelly worked last month's NXT UK events. I REALLY want to see them pick Yim up.

Stephanie McMahon will make a "historic announcement" on Raw, believed to be the reveal of an all-women's PPV coming in a few months. That will absolutely be a huge milestone for the company, and a massive opportunity for WWE's female superstars.

The Miz and Maryse played "guess the WWE superstar." They're doing a lot to promote their new E! show.

Mattel revealed a lot of new WWE action figures, including Ultimate Deletion related accessories.

Matt Taven is joining The Briscoes and Christopher Daniels in CMLL in a few weeks. Good to see that company using their ROH relationship.

Ayesha Raymond is working ROH's August 19 Honor Re-United date. It's good to see variety in WOH.

WWN is now streaming its iPPV events on Club WWN. That's good for them to get people to subscribe and easily watch the shows.

Impact released a few additional tickets for Slammiversary once they finalized the setup for the venue. Basically they planned on the set taking up more room than it did. Hopefully those are bought, too. Impact was smart to run a hot market.

Impact Wrestling drew 275,000 viewers going into Slammiversary. We'll see if the big event leads to any change in ratings for future weeks. I wouldn't expect a massive change.

Brickhouse Brown passed away at 57 following a battle with prostate cancer. Sad to hear of his passing.

Impact released the opening to Slammiversary. This is going to be an important show for them.

Announced for this week's Impact tapings:
- Kongo Kong vs. Stone Rockwell on Monday
- Cult of Lee vs. The Deaners on Tuesday
- Petey Williams vs. Tyson Dux on Tuesday
-- They're using local wrestlers to face the regulars. We'll see if any of those names become more frequent parts of the show.

Impact hosted a Slammiversary marathon on their Twitch channel with Alicia Atout hosting. It's good to see she survived Su Yung kidnapping her!

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com question:
1. Long story short, they absolutely could honor Owen without Martha (or anyone else)'s approval, but they'd get a lot of backlash for going against his widow's wishes. I don't think they want to stir up that kind of public enmity.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Honor For All Reax

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Honorclub event.

Friday, July 20, 2018

Bret responds to Martha, WWE airing in Romania, latest Hidden Gem, Interview with Big E, UFC name at WWEPC, Ziggler on MTV, assorted wrestling press, more on MSG-ROH, WWE signing works final date, ROH and Impact contracts expire, Slammiversary attendance note, top WWE name working Summerslam?, Hardy toning things down, WWE executive done, Ellsworth contract note, former Divas Champion looking to return, Regal update, Swann injured, and Questions on ROH avoiding NYC, Almas tapping to AJ, how WWE views AJ, and heat for JR's injury

Bret Hart responded to Martha Hart's recent statement regarding Owen Hart going into the WWE Hall of Fame. A lot of us want to see the family come together to honor Owen's place in the business in a way where everyone can benefit.

Romania will get Raw and Smackdown Live broadcasts in a new multi-year deal starting July 27. TV deals are absolutely still the lifeblood of wrestling.

WWE Network's most recent Hidden Gem featured The Rock (as Dwayne Johnson) vs. Chris Candido (as Skip of the Bodydonnas) taped before the March 11, 1996 episode of Raw.

Big E promoted a Smackdown Live live event. It's interesting to see how he thinks the group can continue for a long time. They've definitely lasted longer than people have expected.

UFC's Cain Velasquez trained at the WWE Performance Center and attended NXT's most recent taping. That's certainly pretty buzzworthy, but there's no guarantee he's going to jump to being a wrestler. It would be very big if he did.

Dolph Ziggler was on MTV's "Wild 'n Out" as a comedian. WWE is promoting his ventures, somewhat surprisingly.

WWE showed more footage from the ESPYs red carpet.

Madison Square Garden worked out a deal for ROH and NJPW to run the venue in exchange for ROH owner Sinclair Broadcasting dropping legal action against the venue and WWE. That could have been pretty messy given Sinclair feeling they had enough evidence that MSG had agreed to a deal.

- The G1 Supercard will be set up for around 15,000 fans, which is about how many fans WWE sets their shows up for. This is going to be a really big night for ROH, NJPW, and pro wrestling as a whole.

Lacey Lane had a farewell with The Crash before signing with WWE. We could see her in the Mae Young Classic.

Masa Saito was honored with a ceremony at Pro Wrestling NOAH on July 17.

Brickhouse Brown has been moved to hospice care due to brain cancer. He's 57. I hope for the best for him.

California indie wrestler Virgil Flynn III passed away due to a heat stroke at 33. That's sad to hear.

Pee Wee Herman was on hand for David Arquette's return to the ring at Championship Wrestling From Hollywood.

Alex Shelley's ROH contract has expired. He is still out of action following a recent injury. It's expected the two sides will work together again in 2019, with Shelley focusing on school for physical therapy for the remainder of the year.

Slammiversary is set up for 1,000 fans, so selling that out is pretty good for Impact.

Sienna has left Impact after her contract expired and wasn't renewed. She's been out injured. That's a shame. She was doing pretty well with that platform.

The Undertaker is being considered to wrestle at Summerslam. I'm curious what they'd do with him on that show.

Jeff Hardy will be toning down certain spots due to his injuries, notably the swanton bomb. He's taken a lot of big bumps. I hope he can get out before he's in too heavy pain.

WWE's executive vice president of consumer products has left. No word on what that will mean for the company going forward.

James Ellsworth is currently on a per-date contract with WWE. He's still taking independent dates and isn't working live WWE live events. So, it doesn't look like he'll be a long-term fixture. That might be for the best.

Kelly Kelly is interested in returning to WWE. I'm curious if WWE would like to use her again given their change in focus for their women.

William Regal has returned to NXT. That's good to hear.

Rich Swann was taken to the hospital Thursday night for what was believed to be a bad concussion. Impact is planning a replacement for Slammiversary.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I'm sure they're consciously factoring G1 Supercard into their plans for future venues.

2. Almas did pretty well against the WWE Champion. That's definitely the most prominently he's been booked since coming to Smackdown Live. I think he'll be fine.

3. WWE definitely considers the Universal Champion and his contenders as more prominent than the WWE Champion. I don't see it as them not being behind AJ or anything; they're just higher on the Raw side of things.

Nothing to add to 4.

5. The heat was primarily on the venue for not securing the barricade. Everything has been settled with the workers.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Impact Wrestling Reax - 7/19/18

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Impact Wrestling.

Thursday, July 19, 2018

Former Knockout arrested, black WWE stars weigh in on Hogan return, UFC name open to working with WWE, WWE honored by ESPN, new WWE shirts, WWE names at video game party, WWE teaming with band for Connor's Cure, Kane's injury status, more MYC names official, Slammiversary attendance update, WWE HQ honoring Special Olympics, SDL audience, Flair health update, Brock booked for Raw date, and Questions on WWE cutting back on PPVs, match ratings, ROH viewership, and ROH DVDs

Former Knockout Ayako Hamada was arrested and sent to prison in Japan for 18 months after testing positive for drugs. That's unfortunate. I hope she gets things together in the time to come.

New Day released a joint statement on Hulk Hogan being reinstated to the WWE Hall of Fame. They handled that pretty well.

- Titus O'Neil agreed with the statement, while targeting false rumors of his own actions in relation to Hogan's reinstatement.

- Titus then added his own statement. Obviously I wasn't at the meeting and don't know exactly what Hogan said, but there's definitely a big difference between apologizing for making the comments and apologizing for being caught making the comments.

UFC's Travis Browne expressed willingness to wrestle alongside Ronda Rousey, his wife.

WWE was honored with ESPN's Humanitarian League Award, with Roman Reigns accepting. Stephanie McMahon and Charlotte Flair also attended the ceremony.

- Charlotte also presented an award at the ESPYs.

- Stephanie and Roman gave interviews after their appearances.

Andrade Almas and No Way Jose have their first post-NXT t-shirts, while Lacey Evans has her first T-shirt in WWE.

Becky Lynch and Xavier Woods attended Rocket League's third birthday party. Rocket League sponsors WWE.

WWE is teaming with the band O.A.R. to raise money for Connor's Cure. That's a big move to help the charity's purpose.

Kane received an injury to his Achilles' tendon on the Smackdown Live before Extreme Rules. He's not expected back on WWE TV anytime soon as he focuses on his political future.

Deonna Purrazzo, Tegan Nox, Jessica Eleban, and Reina Gonzalez have all been added to the Mae Young Classic. All four are training at the WWE Performance Center.

- Deonna discussed entering the series.

Johnny Impact has been added to the Summerslam weekend cruise.

Slammiversary has officially sold out. It's unknown how many seats they've set up for, but that's hopefully good news given their previous problems with attendance.

WWE's headquarters will be lit up to promote the Special Olympics. WWE has done a lot of work with them.

Smackdown Live drew 2.29 million viewers Tuesday, getting a bit of a boost after Extreme Rules.

Ric Flair gave an update on his health. I hope he's in the clear for a while.

Brock Lesnar is advertised for the July 30 Raw, his first WWE appearance since the Greatest Royal Rumble.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I definitely think it's worth examining how many PPVs to run when the new TV deals kick in. If PPVs aren't drawing well and keeping subscriptions coming, it could very well be time to cut back.

2. The significance of Meltzer's match reviews for his overall work as a reporter have really been overstated. They're a minor part of what he does. I can see the argument that someone who has studied and reported on the business that long has a better idea of what and doesn't work as a good match, but overall it's not worth the level of attention it gets.

3. Star ratings aren't worth the headache, because hypothetically you have to measure each new match against what you rated previous matches. I like matches more when they have a good story to them and that story is executed well. The chemistry between/among performers is a key factor, too.

4. As was said, ROH's TV viewership is fractured into so many markets that it would be very difficult to get a good reading.

5. It could be decreased demand for that medium now that Honorclub is up and running. By the time a show will be on physical DVD, it's old news.

More wrestling tomorrow.

NXT and ROH Reax - 7/18/18

Read on for my thoughts on last night's NXT and ROH.

Wednesday, July 18, 2018

WWE injury updates, WWEPC trainers and signees, Callihan tributes Foley, Interview with Impact, GWN expands, Slammiversary preview released, guests for NXT UK tapings, Fight Network launches in UK, China holding Raw live event, Authors get T-shirt, Y2J vs. Omega in six-man Bullet Club tag, more ROH matches set, MLB player at Impact PPV, Raw audience, Punk+AJ update, SDL dark match, and Questions on succeeding Vince, HHH changing WWE, Drew's chances as a main eventer, and why Bayley vs. Sasha wasn't at Extreme Rules

Roman Reigns is fine after bleeding during Raw. He hit Drew McIntyre pretty hard at one point.

Kevin Owens' injuries are storyline. I'm glad they didn't have him compete after that insane bump, though.

Diamond Dallas Page and Braxton Sutter recently assisted at the WWE Performance Center. DDP's a valuable resource there.

Sami Callihan's new finisher is called the Cactus Piledriver, named after Mick Foley.

Johnny Impact spoke before returning at Slammiversary. It will be fresh to have him back in the mix.

The Global Wrestling Network is now available on Roku. It's good to see that service expand.

The Slammiversary preview show has been released as an uncut version.

Noam Dar and NXT's Rhea Ripley, Nixon Newell, and Dakota Kai are set for NXT UK's first tapings. It's not a shock to see crossover, and it's probably a good thing for them to get the extra exposure and work.

The Fight Network has launched in the UK, and Impact will air there at the same time it airs in North America in addition to replays later on. That's obviously another opportunity for Impact to grow its international reach and audience. I hope the company benefits greatly from the deal.

China is hosting a Raw live event on September 1. Ronda Rousey will work the show. I fully expect the company to try to run there more frequently in the years to come.

Kane is being presented as having a broken ankle, but his legitimate injury is not as serious. He seems to be written off for the time being.

The Authors of Pain now have their first post-NXT T-shirt. Hopefully they'll get their first post-NXT tag team championship reign soon, too.

Chris Jericho and the Young Bucks will face Kenny Omega, Cody, and Marty Scurll on Chris Jericho's cruise. That's pretty big!

ROH has announced the following additional International Cup matches for August 16 in Ireland:
- Adam Page vs. Joe Hendry
- Christopher Daniels vs. Jimmy Havoc
- Jonathan Gresham vs. Mark Haskins

ROH's July 21 event in Georgia has added:
- Marty Scurll vs. Kenny King
- Karen Q vs. Jenny Rose
- Christopher Daniels vs. Mark Briscoe
- Silas Young vs. Flip Gordon
-- This show is being taped for international distribution and will not air on Honorclub.

MLB player Curtis Granderson is set for Slammiversary to hold the championship for Austin Aries vs. Moose. I'm curious if he'll play into the match beyond that.

NXT has signed the following names to begin training at the WWE Performance Center:
- Deonna Purrazzo
- Keith Lee
- Io Shirai
- Lacey Lane, who was trained at the Team 3D Academy.
- MJ Jenkins, who appeared a number of times for Impact Wrestling
- Luke Menzies, former rugby player
- Taishon Dong, Chinese former boxer
- Denzel DeJournette, former collegiate wrestler

Raw drew 2.87 million viewers Monday night. That's a big boost from 2.47 million last week.

C.M. Punk and AJ Lee will be part of a horror movie remake. So that's what they're up to next.

The Usos defeated The Bar before Smackdown Live. That sounds like it would have been good.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. We are some time away from that happening, but the gist of things is that Barrios and Wilson will  further take over the corporate side of things while Triple H and Stephanie are going to focus more on the on-screen product. How exactly that shakes out as far as titles is to be determined.

2. Things will continue to change in ways they already have since Triple H has taken over talent relations and developmental.

3. Honestly at this point being Vince's chosen one behind-the-scenes only means so much in 2018, since it's clear things are shifting over within the power structure. Triple H seems pretty high on him, and that bodes well. As for an on-screen "chosen one" for Vince, I don't know if we'll see that again as Vince's TV appearances seem to become more rare.

4. Ask Sheamus. Vince is going to be busy with the XFL, and Triple H has been building his vision for years, so I don't think it will matter much. I wouldn't be shocked to see Drew as champion, and potentially even being one of the talents they build around.

5. WWE has intentionally saved the feud for Summerslam, given their history in Brooklyn.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Smackdown Live and 205 Live Reax - 7/17/18

Read on for my thoughts on last night's SD Live and 205 Live.

Tuesday, July 17, 2018

Hogan return fallout, Vince misses ER, further ER notes, Japanese legend passes, SDL not airing live on January 1, Raw and SDL back-to-back in September, Sinclair-Tribune merger put on hold, WarGames II official, Brock set for another show, WWE shirt pulled, assorted WWE press, Charlotte update, no Raw dark match, and Questions on best moments covering wrestling, 205 Live at Takeover, predicting audience reactions, and Vince not leading FOX negotations

Eric Bischoff spoke to Sports Illustrated about Hulk Hogan returning to WWE. Seriously, Eric? People not wanting WWE to associate with someone who made racist comments just want attention for themselves? If anything it sounds like Bischoff's the one looking for attention.

- The Miz commented about Hogan's return, too. He's always "on" as a character.

- Mark Henry discussed Hogan's return from the perspective of someone who was in the locker room. I hope Hogan does do work specifically benefitting the communities his words affected. I also have to wonder if Bischoff thinks those unnamed members of the roster are just seeking attention.

Vince McMahon was not in attendance at Extreme Rules, but was in contact with officials. Triple H more or less took over his duties, with Billy Kidman in the Gorilla position.

WWE brought a lot of the roster to Extreme Rules specifically for the Hogan meeting, although they weren't told what the meeting was for beforehand. The meeting was a good move from WWE.

Randy Orton was kept hidden backstage until about 30 minutes before his return. They've got to take great lengths to avoid leaks these days.

Roman Reigns vs. Bobby Lashley was originally scheduled to go on last at Extreme Rules, with the Iron Man match starting the show. If WWE thought fans would be respectful toward the Iron Man match main eventing, they quickly learned from that mistake.

Connor Michalek's family visited at Extreme Rules.

Former AWA World Champion Masa Saito passed away at 76. PWInsider.com ran down his career, including remembrances from those in the business. He definitely stood out and laid the groundwork for stars to come.

Hulk Hogan has filmed a video promoting WWE's Superstars for Hope charity campaign. So, they're already making use of him as an ambassador in case he does

Smackdown Live's New Year's Day 2019 episode will be taped the preceding Saturday in Pennsylvania. It wouldn't shock me if USA changed direction there and made them do a live episode, but that's what's set for now.

Raw and Smackdown Live will run TV from the same Colorado venue on September 24 and 25. The preceding Sunday will see a Raw live event in a different Colorado venue.

ROH owner Sinclair Broadcast Group's purchase of Tribune Broadcasting has been postponed due to the FCC raising concerns over plans of Sinclair retaining control over some local stations it's selling. FCC commissioners are being asked to vote on whether to send the deal to a court hearing. So, the move is still far off from happening.

Takeover:WarGames II has been officially confirmed for November 17. I hope they have plans for something that will live up to last year's event. I don't want them to do WarGames matches just to do them.

Brock Lesnar is scheduled for the Raw after Summerslam. I wouldn't be shocked to see him retain the night before only to lose via Money in the Bank cash-in there.

Corey Graves' "Shut Up Saxton" shirt is no longer for sale. That's interesting. I wonder what caused them to suddenly change course at the last minute.

Jim Ross' autobiography was on sale during Amazon Prime Day.

Drew McIntyre was on Lilian Garcia's latest podcast.

Raw stars met with the Buffalo Bills. Brilliant use of Hawkins.

Charlotte Flair expects to be cleared to return to the ring on July 31. She discussed her health issue with Maria Menounos.

Alexa Bliss did a signing at Cricket Wireless before Raw. Good think Ronda Rousey didn't need a new phone!

Raw did not have a dark match after the show this week. Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Bobby Lashley, and Braun Strowman vs. Dolph Ziggler, Drew McIntyre, Elias, and Baron Corbin had been advertised.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. That was pretty heavy and inspiring. I was going to say it's cool to see something innovative going on in wrestling, like NJPW running the U.S. more or WWE working with an outside company.

Nothing to add to 2 or 3.

4. I certainly wouldn't want them to get a token spot, but if there's something so big it just HAS to be on Takeover, I'd be open to it.

5. It wouldn't have shocked me, given how disrespectful audience members are these days.

6. I saw it more as him letting them get experience for the time when he's not there to direct everything as a gradual passing of the torch. But, yes, he does have experienced and capable executives in key roles.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Raw Reax - 7/16/18

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Raw.

Main Event Reax - 7/15/18, NSYNC member responds to WWE mention Lio does the Shiggy, NXT name pulled from announced match, Interviews with Evans/Y2J, Hogan reinstated and speaks backstage at Extreme Rules, ER guests, Eugene press, SDL live event notes, why Kane was attacked at ER, and Questions on Dolph vs. HBK, toughest stories, Martha letting Owen in the HoF, what should have closed ER, and Brock losing the title

-- Main Event:
- Titus/Apollo vs. Authors:
I'm enjoying this work.

GOD I love seeing the Authors destroy people.

Crews is just getting destroyed here.

Smooth from Titus.

Good to see the Authors rebound.

- Gable vs. Hawkins:
I believe Curt's at 205 straight going into this.

Smooth!!

Damn. This is impressive for Main Event. They could have phoned it in.

OH MAN THAT ROLLUP ALMOST DID IT!!!!!!!

OH COME ON IT WAS SO CLOSE CURT'S GOING TO DO IT THIS TIME I SWEAR.

AHHHHHHH WHAT A HEARTBREAKING LOSS. Good match.

*NSYNC member Joey Fatone honored Team Hell No and New Day after they shouted the band out on Smackdown Live. That's AWESOME.

Lio Rush did the "Shiggy Challenge" to Drake's new song. He's someone to keep an eye on. I don't know how well he'd do without 205 Live existing, but he can definitely succeed on that stage.

Bianca Belair has been pulled from the upcoming NXT Women's Championship contendership match. That interviewer was way too upbeat to be discussing an injury, even a storyline one.

Lacey Evans spoke to Dana Warrior. I'm not saying she's the one who took Bianca out, but she would certainly have something to gain.

Chris Jericho discussed his cruise and more. No word on when we'll see him defend his championship.

Hulk Hogan has been officially reinstated to the WWE Hall of Fame, confirming he and WWE are back on good enough terms to work together.

- Brooke Hogan commented on her father being reinstated. I hope this is the start of Hogan turning things around to become a role model again.

- Hogan spoke with WWE executives and the locker room backstage at Extreme Rules, formally apologizing for his comments and the negative effect they had on the company. That's pretty much what I was hoping he would do to make amends. His actions didn't just affect him.

- Hogan has not, at this time, signed any new contract with WWE, and was not booked for the TV tapings after Extreme Rules. WWE is still being cautious about the whole situation rather than rushing someone in his situation back into the fold.

Rosa Mendes and Nikki Cross were backstage at Extreme Rules. Rosa is from the area.

Eugene's post-WWE life was briefly covered. He made that gimmick work, and is a heck of a wrestler to boot.

At Smackdown Live's July 14 live event in Ohio:
- Kofi Kingston was not at the show.
- Nikki Cross teamed with Naomi, Becky Lynch, and Asuka to defeat Carmella, Lana, and Absolution. The heel side needs Nikki more given the skill level difference between those two sides. Ouch.
- A rope broke after the eight-woman tag, so it had to be replaced. In the time that took, the babyfaces who had just competed did pictures and autographs.

Kane was attacked at Extreme Rules to cover for a legitimate injury to his left foot. I wouldn't be shocked to see him bow out to focus on his mayoral campaign as a result. It was nice to see Team Hell No back again briefly, though.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Dolph has very consciously imitated Shawn, to the point where I really don't want to see what's essentially HBK vs. Knockoff HBK. Other wrestlers would make more interesting opponents.

2. Hmmmm. I was hit pretty hard by Benoit dying and that aftermath. Edge retiring was big, too, since he was the first wrestler I had ever seen in action. Really any time someone you've grown up with hits tragedy at a young age, that's tough.

3. Things definitely aren't changing on that front anytime soon.

4. I think they made a good call action-wise to close with Seth vs. Dolph, although I wouldn't have minded Roman vs. Lashley headlining.

5. There've been at least three occasions where I thought there was a good chance Brock would lose the title (against Braun and Roman back-to-back) where he kept it, so who knows at this point! And of course, Brock could probably not care any less whether he's champion or not.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Extreme Rules Reax

Read on for my thoughts on last night's WWE Network supershow.

New table for 3, WOH set for UK, International Cup and WOH Title matches announced, assorted WWE press, Interviews with Elias/Rock/Natalya/Bryan, Ronda advertised for international shows, WWEPC recruit name changes, NXT name back on SDL shows, WWE return possibly imminent, and Questions on Gamechanger, fast-forwarding WWE TV, Edge returning, Paige's in-ring status, and future documentary subjects

"Table for 3" after Raw will feature Eric Bischoff, Bruce Prichard, and JBL, three men due WWE Hall of Fame recognition in my book.

Chardonnay has been signed for the Honor Reunited tour.

Flip Gordon vs. Kip Sabian has been announced for the International Cup.

Madison Rayne will challenge Sumie Sakai for the Women of Honor Championship at ROH's July 21 Georgia event. It's worrying that's the only match they've announced this close to the show, but it's very possible they're at a point now where they can draw great houses regardless.

WWE summer interns took part in a Day of Service with the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford, Connecticut. That's great!

Elias spoke on Busted Open. He's really become a highlight of Raw.

The Rock read IGN comments. Pretty fun.

Madison Square Garden hosting G1 Supercard was covered by the New York Post. That's going to be a very big night for ROH and NJPW. The sky's the limit as far as attendance goes.

Ronda Rousey is advertised for Raw's August 29 show in the UK and August 31 show in Japan. That's smart.

WWE showed a gallery of every wrestler training at the Performance Center. Notably, the former Gunner is now Jaxson Ryker, and the former Donovan Dijak is now Dominik Dijakovic. Those names are terrible, especially since we've already seen Dijak wrestle under his real name on NXT.

Kurt Angle threw out the first pitch at the Pittsburgh Pirates game to promote Extreme Rules. I'm a little surprised he's not in action in his hometown.

Nikki Cross is back working on Smackdown Live live events. I hope she's about to do some good work there.

Target is getting an exclusive Shark action figure.

Natayla spoke in the UK.

Daniel Bryan discussed his wrestling future. It's believed he's seeking a part-time contract so he can spend more time with his family at home. He's financially secure enough to where he doesn't need to work a full schedule.

There's speculation Hulk Hogan will appear on WWE TV soon, as he was spotted near the site of this week's events. He could serve well as the "host" of Summerslam.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I'm not familiar with them, but I'm all for something breaking the mold and trying new things.

2. It's not uncommon in an age where you don't have to sit and watch a three hour event as it's happening in order to just watch the parts that interest you. And really, I think pretty much everyone goes through a phase where they get bored with something that long-running and are ready to explore new things.

3. I don't expect Edge to push to get back in the ring to such a degree necessary to where they'd consider clearing him to do so. He's moved on to acting and podcasting.

4. Paige is only 25, and forever is a long time. I'm not saying we will see her back in the ring someday, but I'm also not saying it's impossible things will be different some time down the line.

5. I'm not going to dispute Piper, but Bruno, Foley, and Vince also popped up in my head pretty quickly.

6. To be fair, it was several months before it was confirmed on TV, and it wasn't easy to believe someone that young wasn't going to be cleared to come back in action.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Extreme Rules preview

Read on for my ideas on booking tonight's Raw and Smackdown Live supershow.
-- Kickoff:
- Almas vs. Cara:
Almas. No question.

- SAnitY vs. New Day:
I think Deleters vs. B-Team should be here instead, with the Deleters retaining for a babyface moment to lead into the show. But as it is, SAnitY gets the win.

-- Extreme Rules:
- Deleters vs. B-Team:
Deleters. I've enjoyed Axel and Bo, but Matt and Bray vs. the Authors of Pain at Summerslam is the way to go.

- B. Bros vs. Hell No:
I can't help but think the Hell No reunion is a setup for Kane putting Bryan over at Summerslam in a final rub to Bryan before going into being mayor. I have no complaints with that. I absolutely see the concern with Kane being a wrestler while also (presumably) being mayor-elect, but it would just be a few Tuesday nights on the road for TV, and they can do some pre-tapes if necessary. Anyway, Bludgeon Brothers vs. SAnitY should be over huge in Brooklyn.

- Finn vs. Corbin:
I really like Finn, and wish he wasn't being wasted here. How about Finn wins and challenges Braun for the briefcase at Summerslam? I can't hurt the Brooklyn audience with a rematch of this.

- Alexa vs. Nia:
I'm going with Alexa taunting Ronda into hitting her, getting the DQ to lead to a triple threat at Summerslam. Nia deserves a spot there, and has history with both.

- Carmella vs. Asuka:
James Ellsworth, from his cage at ringside, throws a Carmella T-shirt at Asuka. Asuka gets the key from the ref at ringside and kicks James' ass in the cage. James stops her from getting back in the ring before ten.

- Jeff vs. Shinsuke:
Shinsuke, whether Jeff is 100% or not. Shinsuke has really dropped since the Rumble and Mania.

- Dolph vs. Rollins:
It's too soon to take the title from Dolph, and too soon to split him from Drew. Dolph ekes out a win at the end with Drew putting his foot on the ropes.

- Braun vs. Owens:
As much as I'd love to do the spot of Braun throwing Owens through the door for the inadvertent win, they did something similar at GRR. Strowman takes it.

- AJ vs. Rusev:
AJ, to lead to AJ vs. Joe at Summerslam.

- Reigns vs. Lashley:
Honestly at this point I'm fine with Lashley winning and facing Brock at Summerslam. Move Roman to facing Dolph for the IC Title.

More wrestling coming up.

Podcast notes, Rey returning to NJPW, MMC nominated for award, WWE names impersonate ECW names, WWE covers Brock vs. Cormier, Rock on working with Cena, Impact audience, All In announce team, more MYC names announced, WWEPC profiles coaches, Mark Henry gives advice, Raw live event notes, and Questions on Zeus in the WWE HoF, GLOW in the Rumble, MVP leaving MLW, WWE being on Fox Sports, and Trump appearing for WWE again

Edge and Christian did a Q&A edition of their podcast.

Bruce Prichard is on Chris Jericho's podcast. It's always kind of funny to have a podcast host as a guest on another podcast.

Becky Lynch spoke with Maria Menounos.

Rey Mysterio will work NJPW's August 12 event, the final night of this year's G1 Climax. While Rey is expected to join WWE in the next few months, he's still taking some dates in the meantime.

WWE Mixed Match Challenge is being considered for the Leaders Sports Awards. So, yes, WWE's a sport in this occasion.

WWE names impersonated ECW stars. Nakamura as Sabu was perfect. Sonya as Raven was pretty good, too.

WWE Now covered the Brock Lesnar/Daniel Cormier issues, which is a reversal from them consciously not mentioning Brock's UFC appearance during Raw. Seemingly there are different rules for TV compared to the online shows.

The Rock discussed working with John Cena. They're on good terms now, but there was definitely heat at the start.

Impact Wrestling drew 284,000 viewers Thursday night. As we've seen with WWE, the actual audience number doesn't matter much as long as someone's willing to continue airing them!

All In has set its announce team. Presumably they'll rotate throughout the night. The show is definitely living up to the idea of so many non-WWE personnel working together.

Io Shirai, NXT:UK's Jenny, Canadian star Nicole Matthews, and WWEPC trainee Kacy Catanzaro have all been announced for the Mae Young Classic. Io's got to be the favorite this year, but hopefully some other names also get to shine.

WWE profiled their Performance Center coaches. It's quite the mix of styles and backgrounds.

Mark Henry gave advice at a recent WWEPC tryout. It's cool to see the attitude of everyone working together instead of everyone at each other's throats trying to take a spot.

At Raw's July 13 live event in West Virginia:
- Jinder Mahal teamed with Elias to win a four-way match, defeating The Revival, Titus Worldwide, and Heath Slater/Rhyno. I'm curious if Jinder and Elias will be a more regular duo.
- Mickie James teamed with Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan in a loss to Bayley, Ember Moon, and Natalya.
- Alexa Bliss retained the Raw Women's Championship in a triple threat match with Nia Jax and Sasha Banks. It's interesting Sasha and Bayley weren't together.
- Roman Reigns and Bobby Roode defeated Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler in the main event. No Seth Rollins, interestingly.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I'd like to see it! I know No Holds Barred is pretty "vintage" at this point and wouldn't get them a lot of press, but he's definitely deserving.

2. It's a no-brainer, especially when WWE needs to fill up the women's Royal Rumble. I would have put decent odds on it happening in this year's edition, to the point where I'd be surprised if it wasn't brought up.

3. I also haven't heard anything on that front.

Nothing to add to 4.

5. They're considering it as similar to NASCAR, the NFL, etc. and it will fall under that banner.

6. Very, very low. WWE has gone out of its way to distance itself from him.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Friday, July 13, 2018

MYC return set, Henry's indie role, Interviews with Juice/Rock/HoHo, assorted WWE press, Brock update, Hiromu injury note, G1 attendance, NJPW expanding U.S. markets, SDL-FOX audience goals, CMLL draws biggest house in years, ROH names in CMLL, PROGRESS and Crash crossing over, Impact name hurt, Impact vs. ROH at Y2J cruise, Tessa contract update, WWE talking sale, Ronda pulled from date?, JR sequel in the works, WWE injury updates, upcoming WWE signings, Lars update, another WWE tryout name, wrestling Emmy notes, GFW on tour, Martha Hart comments on Owen, NJPW/ROH running MSG, NXT live event notes, and Questions on changing changing Impact's execs, Cage in WWE, vintage content, HHH wrestling in NXT, and fining HHH+Taker

NXT's Rhea Ripley will return for the second Mae Young Classic. She has been working at the WWE Performance Center since last year's edition.

Mark Henry will be the special enforcer at CWE's August 4 event. Smart move to put him in the main event so people stay for the whole show to see him.

Juice Robinson discussed Jim Ross being hurt at NJPW's G1 special and more. Here are highlights. I think he'll really become more valuable to WWE by going out and proving himself elsewhere.

Kofi Kingston threw out the first pitch at Boston's WWE Night. He might be the one getting thrown at Extreme Rules.

The Rock talked about his family's wrestling history.

Brock Lesnar is expected to compete at Summerslam. One would think he'd lose the Universal Championship then, but that's been called a number of times now and hasn't happened. He can't compete in UFC until January, so Vince might have another curve ball headed our way.

Hiromu Takahashi is not expected to need surgery for his neck injury. That's at least some good news for him as he continues to recover.

NJPW's G1 special in the Cow Palace drew nearly 7,000 fans, at a higher ticket price than their previous shows. So, not the runaway success they were hoping for, but still a very good number.

NJPW is expected to run other U.S. markets in 2019. That's a smart move so as to not burn out one corner of the map. I'm curious where else they'll expand to.

Smackdown Live's goal on FOX is in the neighborhood of 3.0-3.5 million, as they'll be available in many more houses on a more high profile network.

CMLL's July 6 event drew 12,500 fans, their biggest number in years. This show was built around Pentagon Jr. debuting in Arena Mexico. They've really rebounded with using AAA names and legends.

The Briscoes and Christopher Daniels are working CMLL's August 4 event on behalf of ROH. That's good between those sides.

PROGRESS and The Crash are working together to do shows in U.S. and Mexico. That's a good use of both sides' reach.

Recent Impact star Shotzi Blackheart broke her ankle recently. It's unknown if/when she'll work there again.

Marty Scurll vs. Sami Callihan is set for Chris Jericho's cruise in a ROH vs. Impact bout. That's pretty cool.

Tessa Blanchard's Impact deal is for two years. I expect her to be a featured Knockout.

WWE is openly discussing a sale, potentially to FOX. That would ensure WWE stays on their channels for a long time to come, with WWE being able to continue doing things they want to do them. It would be a very big moment for the company and wrestling as a whole.

Ronda Rousey is no longer advertised for the night after Extreme Rules. She could be "suspended" for longer due to getting involved in Alexa/Nia.

Jim Ross is now working on the followup to "Slobberknocker," covering the remainder of his career.

Charlotte Flair is expected to be cleared in a few more weeks. It will be good to see her again.

Dean Ambrose is expected back in WWE by the end of summer. I'm curious what they'll do with him.

Garza Jr. and Ultimo Ninja are apparently just waiting on visa issues to be cleared up before joining the WWE Performance Center.

The Lars Sullivan injury is now believed to be a storyline reason for his loss, in order to keep him strong, rather than a legitimate case of being hurt. Either way, he's off the road for the time being.

Australia's Elliot Sexton recently tried out for WWE. No word of any signings, but we should know soon.

The Motley Fool looked at the state of WWE's stock and whether it's peaked.

HoHo Lun talked in China. It's unfortunate to hear about his mother. I hope things go well for him in wrestling there.

Aksana is appearing at a New Jersey convention on August 25, the first time she's been in wrestling in years.

GLOW was nominated for Emmy awards for:
- Best Comedy Series
- Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy (Betty Gilpin)
- Outstanding Main Title Design
- Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series
- Outstanding Hair Styling for a Single-Camera Series
- Outstanding Makeup for a Single-Camera Series
- Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Comedy Series or Variety Program
- Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (Half-Hour)
- Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Program (Half-Hour or Less)

Netflix's Andy Kaufman documentary was nominated for an Emmy award for Outstanding Documentary Special or Nonfiction Special.

The Rock's Ballers series was nominated for an Emmy award for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour).

WWE was not nominated for an Emmy award in any category they made the preliminary ballot for. So, that will continue to be out of the company's reach for now, but I'm sure they'll continue to strive for the honor in the years to come.

Global Force Wrestling is running three shows in New York with Create-A-Pro Wrestling featuring appearances by Jeff Jarrett, Jake Roberts, and "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, with James Storm, Colt Cabana, KM, Fallah Bahh, LSG, Gabby Ortiz, and more in action. So that's still chugging along.

Martha Hart responded to Bret Hart recently saying she was "erasing" Owen's legacy, pointing out all the charity work she does in Owen's name. I'd like to see her allow WWE to promote Owen in a way that allows her to further her work.

Madison Square Garden will host G1 Supercard from NJPW and ROH the night before WrestleMania 35. This replaces the usual Supercard of Honor event, and will feature Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Tetsuya Naito. That's a MASSIVE move, and, while the show will be at the same time as Takeover, it could definitely potentially be both NJPW and ROH's biggest U.S. show. Running in WWE's backyard during such a major weekend is really going to put them on the map and in the crosshairs. 2019 is shaping up to be a big year for wrestling.

At NXT's July 12 live event in Florida:
- Cezar Bononi worked for the first time since May 31, teaming with Adrian Jaoude in a loss to War Raiders
- Tucker Knight lost a singles match to Kona Reeves. Otis Dozovic was not on the card.
- Cheng Yuxiang worked for the first time since May 19, losing to Wesley Blake.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I don't think so. While the audience numbers haven't been strong on Pop, they're making improvements as far as running more markets more frequently, and they just got a TV deal in Mexico. They're certainly better off now than they were before Callis came in and D'Amore got promoted, so I think Anthem's going to continue to put faith in them.

2. If they did, they wouldn't be able to act on it due to his LU contract. LU works with Impact, so he's able to appear in both places.

3. There aren't any plans for them to start any new libraries before the end of the year. Instead, they're going to fill out libraries they've already started.

4. I don't expect him to do any angles or matches in NXT. He'll wait until a talent hits Raw or SDL if he really wants to work with them. That'd be a much bigger stage for those talents.

5. All signs are that it was legitimate, although we don't know how much they paid.

More wrestling tomorrow.
