SSD merch, WWE press, big anniversary for Ohno, Owens picking Network matches, Tenille out of action, ROH titleholder finishes up, HoFer makes surprise indie appearance, and Questions on Larry Zbyszko's whereabouts, Batista back in the ring, changing SDL's championship, Deonna-NXT, and Brie's return

WWE is selling Super Show Down merchandise, including koalas.

AJ Styles responded to IGN comments. Cowboys and rednecks are definitely different - cowboys are generally Southwestern, while rednecks are more Southeastern. Certainly there's overlap in Texas, but probably not Georgia.

Finn Balor granted a wish.

Kassius Ohno celebrated 20 years in wrestling. That's incredible! I hope he hits bigger heights before his bumping days are over.

Ric Flair was at a University of Georgia game.

Kevin Owens will do Superstar Picks on WWE Network tomorrow. I'd pop if it's just matches where he destroys people.

Tenille Dashwood will be undergoing shoulder surgery. There is no timetable for her return. That's a really tough break for someone who was really getting momentum post-WWE, and another major hit to WOH.

Punishment Martinez has finished his ROH commitments, leading to speculation of him going to NXT. I really hope he's utilized well there. Dominic Dijakovic was signed some time ago and only has a handful of TV appearances. ROH will definitely feel his absence, given the lack of people who wrestle like he does.

Lita made a surprise appearance for MCW in Maryland, running in as a referee. That's pretty cool!

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Larry's 66, so he's not doing a ton of work these days.

2. I would be surprised if that's the only time we see him. He'd definitely be an attraction for WrestleMania 35 and potentially some stadium shows.

3. I'm sure it was thought about, but since it's the WWE Championship rather than, say, the Smackdown Live Championship, they're keeping it the same for now.

4. Purrazzo is definitely part of NXT. She's worked live events and TV.

5. Brie would probably be willing to stay retired, but WWE was able to use her in the Bryan/Miz angle, as well as using her to promote "Total Bellas." It would be weird if Nikki came back without her.

More wrestling tomorrow.

ROH Roku channel launches, WWE promotes PROGRESS, Cena book coming, Cody on last name, Interviews with Hangman/IIconics, NBA names on WWE finishers, Turner diagnosed with dementia, Impact audience, Batista returning to WWE, more WWE trademarks, 3MB reuniting, MYC preview, SSD going long, Braun in mainstream movie, top WWE exec sells stock, NWA title rematch raises stakes, and Questions on Raw guest hosts, who's in charge of Evolution, the future of BTE, and podcasts

ROH's Roku channel debuted in time for Death Before Dishonor. I'm curious how much of a boost that will see for PPV buys.

WWE promoted a PROGRESS event this weekend featuring NXT/NXT UK talent Tyler Bate, Jinny, Toni Storm, Flash Morgan Webster, Zack Gibson, James Drake, Trent Seven, Pete Dunne, Matt Riddle, and Mark Andrews. PROGRESS is essentially UK EVOLVE at this point as far as WWE putting them over every so often.

John Cena's "Elbow Grease" children's book is due out October 9.

Cody discussed using the Rhodes last name. As he did not use the Rhodes ring name pre-WWE, there was doubt over whether he could take it elsewhere. Dusty, Dustin, and Brandi didn't have this problem because they either used the name before WWE or after leaving.

Hangman Page talked before Death Before Dishonor. There's definitely an opportunity to further put non-WWE wrestling on the map in the U.S. if the Bullet Club and friends can keep riding the current wave.

The IIconics talked about their friendship and more. Certainly Evolution would be an ideal place to debut a women's tag title, if not one for each brand.

Some NBA names discussed their favorite finishers. That's pretty cool.

Ted Turner has been diagnosed with Lewy body dementia. That's awful to hear.

Impact Wrestling drew 222,000 viewers Thursday, basically identical to last week.

Batista will be on Smackdown 1000 along the other members of Evolution, his first WWE appearance in four years. That'd be a great time to set up a final run!

WWE has trademarked Saturday Night's Main Event, WCW Thunder, and WCW Saturday Night.

"Table for 3" after Raw will feature 3MB. It's amazing how successful Jinder and Drew became after a gimmick you'd think would keep them at Slater's level.

Mae Young Classic this week will feature:
- Toni Storm vs. Hiroyo Matsumoto
- Rhea Ripley vs. Kacy Catanzaro
- Taynara Conti vs. Lavey Lane
- Mercedes Martinez vs. Meiko Satomura

Super Show Down is set to go five hours. So it's definitely a major event for WWE.

Braun Strowman will be in "Holmes & Watson" featuring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. That's a perfect role for him.

WWE Co-President George A. Barrios sold 50,000 shares of company stock. He's still a major stockholder for WWE.

Cody vs. Nick Aldis at NWA's 70th anniversary event will be two-out-of-three falls, a throwback to how the championship used to be defended.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. That's the only name who comes to mind. A lot of names were willing to come on to promote something.

2. Tough to top Bob Barker, but The Muppets were a lot of fun, as well. I also enjoyed Freddie Prinze, Jr., Cheech & Chong, David Hasselhoff, the cast of MacGruber, David Arquette, Pee-Wee Herman, Florence Henderson, and Hugh Jackman.

3. There's a chance Vince lets HHH and Stephanie run the event, since they pushed for it. Vince ALWAYS has the final say, but he's let them do more and more for their projects.

4. I don't see it stopping unless they go to WWE, who would likely want to either do their own version of it or drop it completely.

5. That happens every so often.

More wrestling tomorrow.

NJPW injury, Impact name likely working AAA more, MLW channel back on the air, big Janela injury, Canadian wrestler honored, wrestlers running for office, MYC name blocked from U.S., Ospreay-WOS update, All In distribution update, Impact vs. ROH tag on Y2J cruise, Rey-Aro Lucha update, Hardy content for Network, podcast notes, HHH vs. Taker on WWE Network, Interviews with Bryan/Lita, Taker at another big WWE event?, Owens parents profiled, Kofi honored, more on Impact tapings in Nevada, ROH TV match set, MYC second-round preview, UK promotion at Wrestlecon, and Questions on Sabu in WWE, sports teams getting titles, 205 Live names on Raw, getting paid to walk out, and Aries the vegan

YOSHI-HASHI was legitimately hurt at Destruction at Kobe, due to slipping and hitting the ring apron. He was hospitalized, but released later that night.

Scarlett Bordeaux is expected to work AAA more after her TV debut brought a lot of interest.

MLW's channel has signed new deals with Dish Network and Sling TV, so that will expand the Fusion's audience. They're still off DirecTV and Comcast.

Joey Janela is likely out of action for six-to-ten months after a knee injury. That's really bad timing coming off working All In.

Edouard Carpentier was inducted into the Quebec Sports Hall of Fame, making him only the third wrestler to have that honor.

Former Tough Enough winner Daniel Rodimer is running for Nevada state senate, while the former Lancelot Bravado is running for North Carolina state representative. We'll see if either man follows in Kane's footsteps.

MYC competitor Nicole Matthews had issues coming to the U.S. recently and is now banned from entering the country for five years. That's unfortunate for her wrestling prospects.

Will Ospreay will work WOS' live events in January and February. Grado, Joe Hendry, Viper, and Kay Lee Ray are also on the tour.

All In is being planned for DVD distribution, which makes sense given how successful it was.

Chris Jericho's cruise will feature ROH's Cody, Young Bucks, Marty Scurll, and Hangman Page against Impact's Johnny Impact, LAX, Cage, and Sami Callihan. He's got something interesting working there.

Rey Mysterio is expected to remain part-owner for Aro Lucha, though that project seems to have stalled.

The Hardys are expected to be part of a WWE project, possibly a Halloween Network special. This could lead to further content. That could be good for Matt in particular, since his in-ring future is on hold right now.

Cody and Bill Watts are on Jim Ross' latest podcast.

WWE Network's latest Hidden Gems are Triple H vs. Undertaker matches from 1996 and 1997. A collection focusing on those two facing off is also coming soon.

Impact is looking to sign LAX to longer-term contracts. That makes sense as the company builds the team.

Daniel Bryan talked to promote the 2019 Royal Rumble.

The Undertaker is advertised for a Survivor Series weekend autograph signing, which of course is leading to speculation he'll be at that event.

Kevin Owens's parents were on "My Son is a WWE Superstar."

Kofi Kingston has been honored as one of the 100 Coolest Dads in America.

Impact Wrestling's November tapings will be on the 11th through 13th in Nevada, at the same location ROH and Ring Warriors have used. It will be interesting to see how attendance is compared to those promotions.

Nick Aldis vs. Christopher Daniels is set for ROH's Saturday TV taping.

Jim Cornette discussed doing commentary for NWA's 70th anniversary, potentially returning to CZW, and more on his latest podcast.

Lita spoke about women's wrestling now vs. then. There's no telling what she would have faced if certain social media sites were around during the issue with Edge and Matt Hardy.

The Mae Young Classic's second round opponents faced off. Good idea. There are definitely some workers with potential there.

Revolution Pro Wrestling will be part of WrestleCon 2019, marking their third straight year there. I'm curious if Impact will be on the show again.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Sabu actually seems to get pretty regular work. As for why he's not in WWE, he probably doesn't want to be, and I doubt WWE wants to use a 53-year-old guy who doesn't want to cut promos and is mostly known for his hardcore stuff. He really burned his bridge in his first run there, and there are a lot of talents they'd much rather deal with.

2. The WWE Title is more well-known.

3. Vince is looking for more managers, and Lio and Drake fit the bill. I don't think it's part of a greater plan to drop 205 Live, since the names involved are still on that show, but I also wouldn't be surprised in the least to see the show cut when Smackdown Live moves to Fridays, since it's not really a big draw.

4. Austin actually has a shirt about "those gimmicks in the mail called bills." These days WWE pays a talent their downside guarantee while they're out.

5. He's been public about being a vegan for a good while now, being interviewed on the subject a number of times. If it's a work, it's a very well maintained one.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Assorted WWE press, WWE at a media conference, SDL audience, big Joey Ryan event at Wrestlecon, WCW terms trademarked, and Questions on Braun pinning Brock at Crown Jewel, concussion lawsuit fallout, new Mania locations, how FOX will handle the HOF, and a WWE PPV in the UK

Stephanie McMahon was part of Boys and Girls Clubs Youth of the Year awards.

WWE co-presidents George Barrios and Michelle Wilson, along with Triple H, Nikki Bella, and Charlotte Flair spoke at a media conference. That's pretty cool!

Jeff Jarrett talked to TMZ about Liv Morgan's injury.

Smackdown Live drew 2.19 million viewers Tuesday night.

WWE honored the WNBA champions.

Sin Cara discussed Eddie Guerrero.

Kofi Kingston talked about being one of Undertaker's Druids. I really want to see Taker work with New Day now.

Titus O'Neil accepted an award from a student. It's always good to see him doing good work on behalf of WWE.

Becky Lynch did some local press. I'm glad to see her succeeding in WWE now.

Joey Ryan will have a "penis party" at WrestleCon, featuring ten matches. I can only imagine what all will be involved with that...

Sasha Banks will be on MTV's Wild 'N Out tomorrow.

WWE has trademarked WCW terms, including the company name itself, Nitro, nWo, Halloween Havoc, and Fall Brawl. I wouldn't assume that means they'll do events with those names, but they could if they wanted to.

- WWE has also trademarked All Star Wrestling and WWE Hidden Gems. All Star Wrestling was an AWA TV series.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. That would certainly elevate the Roman/Braun feud, but I wouldn't assume that's the route they'll take. I expect Brock will be protected that night, as he usually is.

2. If the plaintiffs distance themselves from the attorney, WWE will be more likely to welcome them back into the fold.

3. I would like WWE to change things up, as well.

4. I expect Smackdown Live will either be pre-taped or a HOF special that night.

5. I think they'll focus on NXT UK running there for now due to the time difference.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Wednesday, September 26, 2018

NJPW lineup announced, Raw matches set, Mia on recovery, Hogan in WWE opening, Stephanie's birthday, Raw guest, Tough Enough alum in WWE 2K19, former FCW worker in WOW, Big Show on SyFy show, WWN sets up WM35 event, MMC up for award, Interview with Arquette, Kofi breaks WWE record, Raw audience, Liv injured, and Questions on WWE trademarks, WWE bringing back ECW, and comparing Raw to NXT

NJPW's September 30 California show has added:
- Juice Robinson vs. Cody for the IWGP United States Championship
- KUSHIDA and Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Gedo and Jay White
- SANADA, EVIL, and Tetsuya Naito vs. Killer Elite Squad and Zack Sabre, Jr.
- Jeff Cobb, Chris Sabin, and Flip Gordon vs. Best Friends and Hirooki Goto
- SoCal Uncensored vs. Hangman Page and Chase Owens
- Jushin "Thunder" Liger, ACH, and Rysuke Taguchi vs. Rocky Romero and Roppongi 3K
-- Hopefully they time the next event better so they can announce more of a lineup before the last few days ahead of the show! There's enthusiasm for the show, but not "sell out immediately" enthusiasm.

Ronda Rousey vs. Ruby Riott and Bobby Lashley vs. Kevin Owens are set for Raw.

Mia Yim showed footage of her recovery. I hope she takes the NXT opportunity and runs with it.

Hulk Hogan is featured in WWE's new opening. So, things have at least progressed to that point in their relationship.

Stephanie McMahon got a "Happy Birthday" serenade after Raw, as well as a visit from one of the Hyundai Hope on Wheels ambassadors.

Multiple-time Mr. Olympia Phil Heath was at Raw.

Stone Cold spoke with Tough Enough alum AJ Kirsch about working on WWE 2K19.

Shaul Guerrero has signed with WOW as a ring announcer. Good to see her involved in the business still.

Big Show will be on SyFy's "Happy!" as a recurring character. WWE has done surprisingly little with him since he signed a new deal.

WWN's More Than Mania over WM35 weekend will feature the first-ever U.S. shows from DDT and Germany's wXw, on top of EVOLVE, SHIMMER, Kaiju Big Battel, and a Mercury Rising event. Interestingly, PROGRESS is not listed. It's good to see that variety featured.

Mixed Match Challenge is nominated for a Streamy award for sports. Yes, WWE's OK with being a sports show if it gets them awards.

David Arquette talked about his wrestling career. I'm glad he has such respect for the business. The story at the time was Russo wanted to get publicity from the movie crossover at a time when ratings were struggling.

Kofi Kingston broke the record for most days as tag team champion in WWE. That's impressive! The previous record was 953 days, held by Billy Gunn.

Raw drew 2.35 million viewers Monday night, a really notable drop from last week. I can't find a worse audience number for the show on record. They had big competition from other TV shows, but they've had that in previous years as well and never dipped this low. As always, whether that matters depends on USA Network.

Liv Morgan was diagnosed with a concussion after Raw, which isn't surprising. I hope she comes out of that OK.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. WWE screwed themselves over there, although all wrestling companies using that match name have to be careful due to the movie of the same name. So "WWE WarGames" or what have you is trademarkable, but not just "WarGames."

2. ONS 2005 was fresh and exciting for WWE. ONS 2006 was fun, but not the same. ECW was pitched as something like the original promotion, but the more planning that went into bringing it back, the more it turned into WWE's third brand. As for why it was brought back, WWE had put out an ECW documentary DVD that sold really well, leading to the first ONS, which did well enough for them to do the TV show.

3. Unless WWE's feeling really vindictive, they should be fine as long as they don't promote things in a way that plays off WWE's event.

4. Vince tries to be approachable in that sense. He wants talents to come into his office and pitch him ideas.

5. The main roster team is micromanaged a lot more and has to do things week-by-week. NXT can tape weeks at a time with no worry about ratings, budget, etc. And, of course, NXT has a lot less time to fill and a good deal fewer marquee events to build toward.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Raw Reax - 9/24/18

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Raw.

nWo Q&A set, Podcast notes, past NWA names at anniversary, former WWE tag champion at WWEPC, title match on SDL?, MYC competitor signed, Raw backstage names, MSG matches advertised, Liv update, and Questions on talents changing their looks, Kane wrestling while mayor, what WWE's roster needs, mispronouncing WWE, and Abyss' Impact status

An nWo Q&A session is set for October 27 in Orlando. Eric Bischoff and Conrad Thompson will also be answering questions there. Thompson has really established himself as a coordinator of such events.

Becky Lynch is on Lilian Garcia's latest podcast, discussing the feud with Charlotte Flair.

Renee Young is on Jim Ross' latest podcast. It's surreal they're both full-time Raw commentators. I'm glad to see it.

NWA's 70th anniversary event is advertising appearances by Jeff Jarrett, Dory Funk, Jr., Colt Cabana, Blue Demon, Jr., Tim Storm, and J.J. Dillon. It's good to see those former NWA Champions on hand, and Dillon only adds to the prestige.

Rob Conway is a WWE Performance Center guest trainer this week.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Tye Dillinger for the United States Championship is being teased for Smackdown Live. I'm curious where Shinsuke's reign goes from here.

Mia Yim has been signed to NXT following her Mae Young Classic work, making her the first talent signed following this year's event. I hope she does well.

The Undertaker was backstage at Raw, but surprisingly not used on TV.

- He was backstage for a photo shoot. He's expected to be on next week's episode.

Paige was backstage at Raw to film material related to Survivor Series. That will likely have a Raw vs. Smackdown Live theme.

NXT's Shayna Baszler and Dakota Kai were backstage at Raw. I expect to see both wrestle at Evolution.

Brock Lesnar was discussed for this week's Raw, but was not backstage. There's not much reason for him to be there just now. They should focus on SSD before hyping Crown Jewel.

Madison Square Garden's December 26 Smackdown Live live event is currently set to feature:
- AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe in a steel cage match
- The Miz vs. Daniel Bryan
- Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair
-- We'll see if/how that lineup changes in the next three months.

Liv Morgan was checked out by trainers after Raw, but no conclusions were reached as of last night. She took a pretty serious kick. I hope she's able to rebound.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. WWE always wants to be aware if a talent is changing their look, since they've got action figures, video game scans, etc. planned in advance and they don't want them to be outdated!

2. As long as it's just an occasional thing and he delivers on his campaign promises, I think they'll be fine with it. Especially if he gets press and WWE funds to Knox County!

3. Actually going forward and doing it instead of talking about doing it. That, and not taking the business too seriously (since most of the people making the decisions don't).

4. WWE could probably use a bit more wrestlers with size who focus more on brawling. Nowadays seemingly every wrestler flies around and is amazingly technically proficient. They could use some people who contrast with that. Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe are amazing, but they don't stand out as much because ultimately they generally wrestle the same style as others. Braun and the Authors are so fun because they bring something different to the table.

5. THE COMPANY'S NAME IS WHAT HE SAYS IT IS PAL!!! HE'S VINCE MCMAHON!!!

6. He's focusing on backstage duties. I'm sure we'll see him back on-screen at some point, but Impact is largely focusing on younger, fresher talents.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Monday, September 24, 2018

Bella appearances, SDL segment set, big NWA70 commentator set, NXT live event notes, and Questions on whether Ronda or Roman will lose first, Braun vs. Roman's ending, Hogan on WWE TV, and Brawler in the WWE HoF

The Bella Twins were at the iHeartMusic Festival.

Samoa Joe and AJ Styles will have a contract signing on Smackdown Live. I'm sure that will go smoothly.

Jim Cornette will be doing color commentary for NWA's 70th anniversary event. Ohhhhh boy. I hope that's the right move given his temperament. It definitely raises the prestige of the show, though.

At NXT's September 22 Florida live event:
- Tony Nese lost to EC3. Nese was the only 205 Live name on the show.
- Tian Bing returned to live events, teaming with Rocky in a loss to the War Raiders. So, the Chinese prospects are still getting work here and there.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Probably The Big Dog given WWE's reluctance to go full throttle with his push.

2 is a repeat.

3. Is the match still going? If not, there was a finish. The finish is that it was ruled a no contest.

4. I'm honestly surprised we haven't seen him yet. It seems it will come down to when WWE thinks they can get away with it without any backlash, inside or outside of the roster.

5. He definitely deserves it, but he had some heat when he left because it was felt he was carrying himself as an on-screen talent instead of someone working backstage (who's supposed to keep a lower profile). It's ridiculous on the outside, but that's how things go inside the wrestling business sometimes.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Sunday, September 23, 2018

Raw title match, new Photo Shoot coming, NXT+MYC lineups, Taker graphic novel previewed, Ellsworth launching YouTube channel, and Questions on former executives responding to old reports, great matches with older wrestlers, backlash for Mayor Kane wrestling, favorite wrestling championships, recently injured names working Evolution, and Madusa getting back in the ring

Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler vs. The Revival for the Raw Tag Team Championship is official for Raw. I don't think we'll see a title change there.

Scott Hall will be on WWE Photo Shoot after Raw. That should be pretty cool.

NXT this week will feature:
- Tommaso Ciampa vs. Otis Dozovic
- Kairi Sane vs. Vanessa Borne
- The Mighty vs. Street Profits
- Lars Sullivan in action

This week's Mae Young Classic episode will feature:
- Rachel Evers vs. Hiroyo Matsumoto
- Jessie Eleban vs. Taynara Conti
- Isla Dawn vs. Nicole Mathews
- Io Shirai vs. Xia Brookside. I'm excited to see Io in a WWE ring.

The Undertaker's upcoming graphic novel has been previewed. Good timing with him returning for SSD and likely Crown Jewel.

James Ellsworth is launching a YouTube channel. That could be fun.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. It makes sense, since they didn't necessarily get much of a chance to respond when they were actively working in key roles in the business.

2. Sting's match with Triple H comes to mind. Obviously it had a lot of smoke and mirrors, but it was fun.

3. The voters knew/know he was/is a wrestler and wasn't going to completely leave that life behind. He won by an almost 2-1 margin, so I think they'll be OK with him being Kane every once in a while, especially on a weekend.

4. There's little topping Big Gold, but I liked the Undisputed Championship, the current NWA World Championship design, and a lot of the REALLY vintage titles that weren't as glossy as what we see these days.

5. Sasha's injury seems to be more major than Alexa's. There's a good chance Banks won't wrestle there, but Alexa could.

6. Unless she's wrestling in a battle royal or big tag match, I don't think we'll see it. I do think she'll be on the show in some fashion, though.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Main Event and Ring Warriors Reax - 9/22/18

Read on for my thoughts on yesterday's WWE Main Event and Ring Warriors.

Saturday, September 22, 2018

Podcast notes, Interview with Kane, more Ring Warriors names announced, Ring Warriors producer, Abyss on HoF nod, famed announcer calling Cody-Aldis II, WWE injury, Raw date in Europe set, Impact audience, new ROH PPV/TV matches, new ROH dates set, and Questions on Tenay and West post-Impact, Borash on WWE TV, best ring announcers, and Taz returning to WWE

Adam Cole is on Edge and Christian's latest podcast. I'd like to think he's got a big career ahead of him.

PCO is on Stone Cold's latest podcast.

Kane got press for returning to the ring as mayor. It's surreal seeing Bradshaw and Kane discussing politics and economics, but it's good to show wrestlers aren't just big dumb jocks fake fighting.

Ring Warriors will tape again on October 10 and October 11, with Lance Archer and Killer Kross debuting for the promotion. Austin Aries will return. I'm curious if they'll continue Aries and Kross' alliance from Impact.

Former ROH name Alison Danger is working Ring Warriors as a manager and producer.

Abyss commented on joining Impact's Hall of Fame. He's given a lot on-screen and behind-the-scenes to the company.

Tony Schiavone will call Cody vs. Nick Aldis for the NWA World Championship at NWA's 70th anniversary show. That's pretty cool.

SHIMMER officially announced their streaming platform. I hope that's successful for them.

Sasha Banks has been injured and completely pulled from Mixed Match Challenge. Mickie James will replace her. That's a concerning setback for her. I hope she comes back strong.

Raw will run a France live event on May 14, as part of the European tour.

Impact Wrestling drew 229,000 viewers this week. It's worth noting Pop renewed Impact for 2018 in August 2017 when the show was drawing above 275,000 each week. Things are definitely going more down to the wire this year.

ROH has announced the following matches:
- Death Before Dishonor will feature Bully Ray and Silas Young vs. Colt Cabana and Flip Gordon in a tables match
- The September 29 TV taping will feature The Young Bucks vs. Best Friends vs. SANADA and EVIL vs. the losing team of The Briscoes vs. The Addiction, as well as Marty Scurll vs. Chris Sabin

ROH will hold a TV taping on January 12 in Georgia and a live event on January 13 in North Carolina.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. He considers himself retired. I believe Impact found it too expensive to fly him in from Nevada every taping when they could use someone else more cheaply. There was talk of putting him in their Hall of Fame last year, but it could have been another case of it seeming like an unnecessary cost to fly someone in just to appear.

2. He got a good offer to work for the hockey team, and he took it. It almost certainly gives him more regular work and pay than had he stayed in Impact. He was something of a Jeff Jarrett guy, so with Jeff gone, he's not as likely to return.

3. Right now he's in NXT, and they aren't looking to use him on-screen. If/when he moves up to being on the road with Raw and/or Smackdown Live, that could change depending on what the company needs.

4. Scott Steiner. Normally he's only count as one announcer, but he's a GENETIC FREAK and he ain't normal! Otherwise I'd say Finkel, Chimel, Roberts, and Borash are my favorite regulars.

5. Basically he's got such a good gig going there's no reason for him to return. I'd be surprised if we never see him on WWE TV again (a Hall of Fame nod is deserved), but I'm not picturing him straight-up returning.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Friday, September 21, 2018

Lucha convention seeking to return, indie star on USA show, Page auction, Cobb's future, Briscoes milestone, why Brock is back, HIAC attendance note, HoFer needs financial help, PCO update, Alberto notes, OVW paired with boxing promotion, more OVW 1000 names, Mysterio's son training more, former Impact name retiring, Johnny Impact injury update, more on 205 Live move, NXT UK plans, why WWE met with Impact, another WWEPC guest, why 205 Live names are on Raw, more on Kane donations, Nia profiled, HBK set for another WWE TV date, and Questions on how WWE's TV deals change things, hiring a Bullet Club member, PCO's character, Becky as a heel, and if Starrcast will return

Expo Lucha is seeking a second event in August 2019. So there's potential for it to be an annual event.

Luke Hawx performed stunts on "The Purge." He's doing a good job getting non-wrestling work.

Hangman Page is auctioning his All In gear to support hurricane relief in North Carolina. That's awesome!

Jeff Cobb is expected to focus on NJPW and ROH once his LU commitments are fulfilled. I'm excited to see more of him. He will also be appearing on Ring Warriors at some point.

The Briscoes have passed a combined 1,000 days as ROH Tag Team Champions. They're absolutely ROH institutions.

Brock Lesnar working Crown Jewel is basically a case of the money being too good not to. This is similar to Shawn Michaels reportedly coming back to the ring that night to team with Triple H against The Undertaker and Kane. I can't blame anyone for taking that big of a pay day!

Hell In A Cell was a legitimate sellout of 12,500 fans.

Paul Orndorff put forth a GoFundMe account to pay property taxes for his house, as his savings had been depleted. Sad times.

PCO will likely be a regular for MLW. It's wild to see him utilized so much in 2018.

Alberto El Patron was considered for a lucha episode of CW's "DC Legends of Tomorrow," but it fell through.

- Alberto is focusing on Combate Americas, which limits his schedule for outside work.

OVW and Top Knotch Boxing are now under the same corporate umbrella as Gladiator Sports Network. Al Snow is the president and CEO of the new company, but the two ventures will be run separately. That's a pretty interesting development for OVW.

- Mick Foley and Dangerous Danny Davis will be at OVW 1000.

Rey Mysterio's son is now training with Lance Storm. I wonder if he'll end up at the WWEPC now that Rey has signed a deal there.

Doug Williams is looking at retiring shortly due to injuries. He just turned 46.

Johnny Impact had a dislocated elbow in early August, but has been cleared to wrestle.

205 Live will remain at its new time at least through the end of Mixed Match Challenge. It is now being taped before Smackdown Live.

NXT UK is expected to be run by PROGRESS staff, especially for live events. That's much easier than building an unaffiliated staff from the ground up.

The WWE-Impact meeting was initiated by Impact and is believed to be a pitch for WWE Network to license the Impact tape library for WWE Network. That would definitely be a big financial gain for Impact, as they're not really getting anyone else interested in spending money for their content.

Former WWE official Tim White was recently at the WWE Performance Center. I'd like to see some referees in the WWE Hall of Fame at some point.

Drake Maverick and Lio Rush being used on Raw was a Vince McMahon idea.

WWE's latest Hidden Gems, for Hispanic Heritage Month, are:
- Rey Mysterio vs. Super Calo from Nitro in 1996
- Tito Santana and Mil Mascaras vs. Demolition from WWF in 1987
- Pedro Morales vs. Blackjack Mulligan from WWWF in 1971
- Rito Romero vs. Danny Savich from 1952
-- They really dug deep into the vault for those last two

WWE's Tennessee donations were part of a deal for Kane to work Super Show-Down and Crown Jewel. He could end up working other WWE dates this Fall, as well. I'm very interested to see how he handles doing both politics and wrestling.

Nia Jax is on "My Daughter Is A WWE Superstar." She's getting a lot of representation lately.

Shawn Michaels is set for the October 1 Raw, the final episode before Super Show-Down. I'm interested how much we'll see him in the months ahead.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I don't know if it's really a change as much as a ramping up of an existing trend, but they're going to expand talent recruitment around the globe, with plans for more Performance Centers and the like. I'd absolutely like to see them use the money to boost the underperforming WWE Network, but I don't think that's a major priority. They're willing to invest more into some projects, but they're not completely revamping it like they could.

2. Kenny Omega. No doubt. He's one of the top stars in the world, and he's done it without WWE behind him. He's someone who draws money and raises the profile of everything he's involved in. That's not easy to come by.

3. I definitely miss when wrestling had more pronounced characters.

4. WWE intends her to be, but obviously a lot of fans still support her.

5. Almost definitely. It's just a matter of how it will be put together next time, as while incredibly successful, it was a massive endeavor.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Impact Wrestling Reax - 9/20/18

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Impact Wrestling.

Thursday, September 20, 2018

Another Punk movie, Tyrus on air, podcast updates, new WWE Shop merch, MLW in Spanish, MLW expanding signature matches, new MLW venue, new ROH TV matches, Rey signing official, Rayne locked in, Lucha Bros update, SDL audience, Paige documentary in the works, SHIMMER streaming, and Questions on Braun's MITB timing, NXT names not working out on Raw+SDL, dream matches, women slapping men, and 2019 WWE HOFers

C.M. Punk will star in another horror movie. So he is keeping busy without wrestling.

The former Brodus Clay/Tyrus will appear on USA Network's "The Purge" next week. This isn't due to him re-signing with WWE or anything.

- He will also have exclusive Fox News digital content available later this year.

Natalya and Tyson Kidd are on Chris Jericho's latest podcast, discussing Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart.

WWE Shop has Halloween costumes as well as a slew of new custom T-shirts for MMC, 205 Live, Evolution, and Hispanic Heritage Month.

MLW Fusion will have a Spanish-language version on beIN Sports' Spanish-language channel. That's definitely an important move.

MLW is looking to turn WarGames and Battle Riot into annual events. It makes sense to build signature matches and shows.

MLW is working on running Pennsylvania after getting a promoter's license.

ROH's September 29 TV taping has added:
- Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham vs. Jushin "Thunder" Liger and KUSHIDA
- Cody vs. Willie Mack for the NWA World Championship in Mack's first ROH appearance in three years. Cody's segments have given ROH fresh names to use.
- Coast 2 Coast challenging for the ROH Tag Team Championship

Rey Mysterio has signed a two-year WWE deal, with the option to give notice ater 18 months. That's plenty of time for him to have a final important run.

Madison Rayne has signed an ROH contract, ensuring she'll be part of WOH going forward. That will be good for her and good for the division.

Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix are looking to work NJPW on top of continuing with Impact, MLW, and LU. They are locked into deals for 2019, so WWE is off the table for now.

Tito Santana has launched a podcast called "Calling It In The Ring." Nice to he him still involved in the business.

Smackdown Live drew 2.28 million viewers, getting a slight boost from following Hell In A Cell.

Paige will be the subject of a WWE Chronicles episode.

SHIMMER has launched a streaming service on their website and Roku, with Amazon Fire TV soon to follow.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. That attack was a prelude to having Roman inside HIAC. Heck, it could have been an arrogant warning shot.

2. I think there's something to the notion Vince is trying to turn acclaimed wrestlers into sports entertainers and it results in something that's not what either side wants to see.

3. Hmmmmm…. how about Brock vs. Vader, Cena vs. Austin, and the Steiner Brothers vs. The Authors of Pain?

4. No, but it should definitely lead to a man vs. man or woman vs. woman to pay off the heat.

5. Batista and Kane are important options, too. JBL doesn't really feel like a headliner given the number of years he was a main eventer compared to his whole career as a wrestler and announcer, but I'm sure WWE sees him as worthy of that.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Wednesday, September 19, 2018

Concussion attorney set to appeal, WWE scouts BOLA, Booker appearance, Jeff+Orton updates post-HIAC, Alexa injured, GLOW wins awards, MLB wrestling night, Interview with Nia, WWE and Impact execs meet, NXT releases former Impact star, DBD main event set, Raw audience, MYC talent signed?, WWEPC guests, WWE donates to Kane's hometown, WWE 2K19 DLC set, new WWE counsel, and Questions on Raw's overrun, Owen in the HoF post-Martha, Russo's antics, 205 Live's future, and Ronda's armbar in WWE vs. UFC

The attorney behind WWE's concussion-related lawsuits has indicated he will appeal Monday's ruling. I suspect he'll keep trying to make the situation turn in his favor as long as he's legally able to. His actions have served to degrade his profession and make a mockery of the legal system in general.

AJ Styles is the subject of an Honorclub collection, featuring five hours of his ROH matches from 2006 and 2014. It makes complete sense to utilize that content in the hopes of getting people who have seen AJ's work elsewhere to check out ROH.

WWE scouted talent at PWG's Battle of Los Angeles this weekend, sending William Regal and Brian Kendrick to speak with wrestlers involved in that tournament. That's hardly a surprise given the collection of talent assembled. I fully expect some of the people on that card to be pursued for WWE contracts.

Booker T. is set for Absolute Intense Wrestling's Ohio show on November 3. Perhaps he'll find some talent there worth recruiting.

Jeff Hardy and Randy Orton competed the night after Hell In A Cell. Hardy teamed with AJ Styles and R-Truth to defeat Orton, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Samoa Joe in Oklahoma. I'm surprised they had Jeff in even that limited role after talking about him having internal bleeding on Sunday.

Alexa Bliss will be missing ring time due to a legitimate arm injury suffered at Hell In A Cell. She's been pulled from some live events, and Ember Moon is substituting for her on Mixed Match Challenge while she recovers.

GLOW won Emmy awards for Outstanding Production Design For A Narrative Program (Half-Hour or Less), in addition to Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Comedy Series or Variety Program. Unsurprisingly, the show will return for a third season.

The Baltimore Orioles are having a wrestling-themed event with Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows appearing. Again, AJ Styles appeared with TMNT and these two are at baseball games.

Nia Jax spoke to Today.com. promoting "Total Divas" ahead of its season premiere.

WWE and Impact executives recently met at WWE headquarters, with Impact's Ed Nordholm and Scott D'Amore attending. Vince McMahon was not present. It's unknown what the nature of the meeting was.

NXT released former Impact name Mahabali Shera, who had worked there under his real name of Amanpreet Singh. He had never appeared on NXT TV, but had worked live events.

Death Before Dishonor will be headlined by Jay Lethal vs. Will Ospreay for the ROH World Championship, with Ospreay answering Lethal's open challenge.

Raw drew 2.67 million viewers against the return of the NFL. The show's audience dropped from last week despite following a newsworthy PPV.

Mia Yim was recently seen at the WWE Performance Center, sparking speculation of her being signed to NXT. I'd love to see it!

- Christian was also recently at the facility.

WWE has donated $100,000 to first responders in Kane's county in Tennessee, at the new mayor's request. That's AMAZING. I'm glad they're supporting a model employee.

- Interestingly, Kane says his only scheduled date is Super Show-Down. There's a natural follow-up match to do at Crown Jewel with DX vs. the Brothers of Destruction.

Samoa Joe did local press to support Smackdown Live.

WWE 2K19 will feature the following DLC wrestlers:
- Bobby Lashley
- Candice LeRae
- Dakota Kai
- EC3
- Lacey Evans
- Maria and Mike Kanellis
- Ricochet
- The War Raiders
-- Those NXT names being included is a good sign of how much WWE values them.

WWE has announced a new general counsel. That's a major role.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Given the numbers WWE pulls for the channel compared to their other programming, they probably want there to be as much of an overrun as possible!

2. I also think this is a little uncomfortable territory for a question, but I agree the decision would likely fall to Owen's children.

3. While I've often defended Russo's contributions to the wrestling industry, his conduct the last few years has hardly endeared him to anyone, and I think everyone (including Russo) would be served well by him leaving the public eye and moving onto doing something else with his time. It's not doing anything good for anyone.

4. I generally enjoy 205 Live, and think everyone involved has talent, but I think it's time for WWE to really take a look at the show and see if it's worth continuing at whatever the expense currently is. If not, they either to need to really change their approach with the division or discontinue it.

5. That might be how UFC fighters do the move, but WWE superstar Ronda Rousey will defeat opponents with the current version of the move.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Smackdown Live and MMC Reax - 9/18/18

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Smackdown Live and Mixed Match Challenge.

Tuesday, September 18, 2018

Interview with Renee, WWE celebrates Hispanic heritage, Ziggler followup, former WWF ref ailing, Starrcade return set, WWE Latin American tryout, another Rock credit, AJ with TMNT, WWE concussion lawsuits dropped, SDL matches announced, WWE 2K19 soundtrack revealed, another Flair song, Saudi event announced, Impact Twitch show set, former Impact tag champion leaves, NC stars affected by flooding, Brock update, WWEPC guest trainer, and Questions on adding Asuka to Charlotte/Becky, how faces cash in MITB, WWE capturing ring sounds, post-Vince WWE, and asking Vince one question

Renee Young discussed becoming part of Raw's commentary team. She's been very versatile for WWE.

WWE stars celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month. That's great!

Dolph Ziggler "refused medical attention" after his Hell In A Cell fall. I'm glad they're selling that bump as serious.

Former WWF official Billy Caputo has been diagnosed with aggressive bone marrow lymphoma. PWInsider covered his amazing legacy. I hope for a strong recovery.

WWE Starrcade is set for November 24 in Ohio, with the following lineup:
- The Shield vs. Braun Strowman, Drew McIntyre, and Dolph Ziggler in a Cincinnati Street Fight
- AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe in a steel cage match
- Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair in a steel cage match
- Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Rusev
- New Day vs. The Bar
- Elias in concert with Ric Flair
-- Basically it looks like they're going to turn Thanksgiving week events into Starrcade shows regardless of their location. If it gets more people in the door, it's fine with me.

WWE will hold a Chilean tryout in December, with recruits from around Latin America. That could be a big investment for them.

- The WWE Performance Center website is now available in Spanish and Portuguese, as a further expansion of their international recruitment.

The Rock is now executive producer of a stunt documentary. He's REALLY making moves in the entertainment business.

AJ Styles met with Leonardo and Donatello. I love ridiculous stuff like this. Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows should get some costumes if they want to make it back on TV.

WWE's concussion-related lawsuits have been officially dismissed in a big win for WWE.

- The court ruled many of the claims brought against WWE were time-barred, as none of the plaintiffs had worked for WWE since before 2011.

- For the wrongful death cases, those needed to be filed within one year of death. The only plaintiff who fit that circumstance was Jimmy Snuka, who was listed as "semi-retired" and "inactive" during his final WWE appearances and never alleged a head injury during the relevant time.

- The court further ruled WWE had no duty for plaintiffs' health or employment status after they left WWE.

- The lawsuits were dismissed with prejudice, so none of the plaintiffs can bring forth similar claims against WWE.

- The attorney who brought the case must pay WWE's legal fees, and inform every plaintiff and every wrestler who has used his services of the ruling.

-- So after many years and a lot of money wasted, WWE has finally prevailed. The ruling is hopefully a deterrent to the attorney and anyone else who would bring such unsubstantiated big-money lawsuits.

Announced for Smackdown Live:
- AJ Styles vs. Andrade "Cien" Almas. That should be a barnburner.
- Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Rusev for the United States Championship. It's notable Shinsuke wasn't on HIAC at all.

WWE 2K19's soundtrack was revealed on UpUpDownDown. Another WWE-Wale connection. Make of that what you will, although UUDD is mostly Xavier's independent show rather than a WWE venture.

Ric Flair is the subject of another song. They certainly took a different direction from Ric Flair Drip!

WWE's Saudi Arabian show on November 2 has been confirmed as WWE Crown Jewel, which will air on WWE Network and international PPV. Announced for the event:
- Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman vs. Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship
- First-ever "WWE World Cup tournament"

Impact Wrestling will have a Twitch broadcast with Border City Wrestling on October 7. They're all over North America.

Andrew Everett has asked for and received his release from Impact Wrestling, electing to become a free agent: Tweet 1 Tweet 2 He was getting pretty sporadic work under his Impact deal, so I don't blame him for exploring other options.

The Hardys and Scott Dawson were victims of flooding from Hurricane/Tropical Storm Florence. I hope they're able to rebound soon.

Brock Lesnar was not at Raw.

Hurricane Helms is a guest trainer at the WWE Performance Center this week. I wouldn't be shocked to see him become a producer for WWE at some point.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I think the Charlotte/Becky feud works well as it is given their history, but they could Asuka down the line when they're ready to transition to something new. Becky vs. Asuka would be pretty fresh and interesting.

2. Traditional babyfaces want to win with honor and dignity rather than by beating an opponent at a disadvantage.

3. I think people take for granted just how developed WWE's production is. They go to great lengths to get what's happening in the ring across to fans inside and outside the arena.

4. Michelle Wilson and George Barrios are set to take over the corporate end of the company, while Triple H and Stephanie McMahon will run the tapings. We're already seeing part of their vision being implemented with how women are presented now and the talent Triple H recruited being presented prominently. As far as other changes, I think we'll see certain talent used more closely to how they were/would be presented in NXT rather than trying to fit them into the molds WWE has used for so long.

5. GODDAMN PAL! I'd ask how talents can grab the brass ring. It seems like we're getting a conflicting message when he wants talents to follow directions to the letter and not do things that aren't approved. As for Dave's question, Vince would rather make a lot of money doing his own vision than hypothetically make more money doing what someone else wants. HE'S VINCE MCMAHON, DAMNIT!

More wrestling tomorrow.

Raw Reax - 9/17/18

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Raw.

Monday, September 17, 2018

Woken Matt and Nia updates, Mickie does charity before HIAC, Taker and Foley on HIAC '98, NXT training more female officials, NWA Title match at ROH taping, and Questions on Roode's current character, Hart Foundation in the HoF, the Horsewomen leading to dropping the Diva name, Paramount getting another wrestling show, and Brock's WM19 SSP

Matt Hardy addressed his status after working a Raw live event Saturday. At this point, I'd just assume the Woken persona is on the shelf. He remains under contract through WrestleMania 35, so it's not out of the question we see him wrestle again if rehabilitation goes well.

- Matt was backstage at HIAC. He was already on the road for live events, so it made sense to be at that show, too.

Nia Jax was honored by The Association of National Advertisers.

- Nia was also backstage at HIAC, so we could see her back on WWE TV soon.

Mickie James visited an emergency shelter before HIAC. That's great!

The Undertaker and Mick Foley discussed their 1998 Hell in a Cell match. That's going to be on highlight reels for decades more to come.

NXT is training more female referees. Opportunities for women in WWE aren't limited to the wrestlers! Good to see movement on that front.

The NWA World Championship will be defended at ROH's September 29 TV taping as Cody faces Willie Mack. The winner will face Nick Aldis at NWA's 70th anniversary.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Because, pal, it's about putting smiles on kids' faces! They probably felt they had gotten all they could out of Glorious Roode and now they're having him fill space in his current role/spot.

2. Unless they're going to induct the group without Owen, no. Even if he wasn't a factor, they'd be in the unenviable position of inducting a group of wrestlers who largely aren't there to accept the honor.

3. I think it's more of a case of their hiring and pushing being part of a larger move that included dropping the "Diva" name. I think that move would have happened without those four specific individuals, although their prominence certainly cemented the new direction.

4. Forever is a long time. It's all a matter of the right people being in the right places to make a deal, as was the case when Impact got on the channel. Someone at Paramount needs to be open to the idea and someone with a wrestling product needs to be able to sell it to them. That said, I don't see it happening anytime soon.

5. He clearly thought he was going to hit it from that distance. Who's going to tell Brock no? I thought he had a concussion as a result, but I don't remember anything about a neck injury.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Hell In A Cell Reax

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Raw and Smackdown Live WWE Network special.

Sunday, September 16, 2018

205 Live changing nights, Network special promotion, Story Time preview, MYC matches this week, Aiden gets merch, HIAC visual change, WWEPC trainee debuts, and advertised TLC main event

205 Live is moving to air before NXT as Mixed Match Challenge follows Smackdown Live on Tuesdays. Whether this is just during MMC or a long-term move remains to be seen. Either way, it will be interesting to see what it means for viewership numbers.

WWE Network promoted tonight's Mick Foley special. I hope we're not still reliving that bump at the 25th anniversary. It's not a good sign WWE has to keep bringing up the past to get over.

WWE Story Time after Raw will feature Paul Heyman and Jake Roberts. Both men are great storytellers.

MYC Week Three will feature:
- Kaitlyn vs. Kavita Devi
- Toni Storm vs. Jinny in an NXT UK battle
- Karen Q vs. Xia Li in a China vs. China match.
- Mia Yim vs. Allysin Kay in a battle of former Knockouts Champions

Aiden English has his first solo T-shirt. Rusev is so over Lana AND Aiden can ride his Matchka Merch coattails!

WWE showed the construction of Hell In A Cell. The red is really going to be an eyesore. Yikes.

Mansoor Al-Shehail, formerly Manny Faberino, has debuted at NXT live events in Florida. He worked the California scene before being signed.

TLC's venue is advertising The Shield vs. Braun Strowman, Dolph Ziggler, and Drew McIntyre as the show's main event. However, seeing as how we're three months out from that show, I'd assume it's just a placeholder.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Main Event and Ring Warriors Reax - 9/15/18

Saturday, September 15, 2018

Wrestling comic con appearances, Interviews with Brie/Ambrose/Natalya, WM34 merch, Ryder anniversary, podcast note, Mickie up for awards, AAA name expected to stay, MLW name signs long-term deal, Impact name scouted by WWE+NJPW, Rock's daughter at WWEPC, Riddle begins training, NXT UK looking at top European name, more WWE managers coming, Lucha Bros plans, Raw+SDL international live events, Anthem-Jarrett lawsuit extended, Impact interviewer returns, more on Network collection, Aries signing, title match moved to Kickoff, Impact audience, WWE-Hyundai ad, top wrestling school getting TV, Ronda trademarks, and Questions on Brock+Heyman's WWE status, David Flair, Angle appearing again, Molly at Evolution, and NJPW not advertising much for California

Keystone Comic Con in Pennsylvania this weekend features AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan, Jerry Lawler, Jim Cornette, and Tommy Dreamer in addition to House of Hardcore exhibition matches. HOH has been good at getting opportunities in a lot of places.

Brie Bella discussed returning to the ring. I don't expect the Bellas as full-time, long-term members of the roster, but they're important to the company and we will see them here and there.

WWE is selling limited edition WM34 plaques with a piece of the canvas. It's awfully late to still be making WM34 merchandise, but if it sells, it sells.

Zack Ryder celebrated fifteen years since he first trained to become a wrestler. It's amazing to think he's a tenured WWE veteran now.

Edge and Christian did a Q&A on their latest podcast.

Mickie James has been nominated for three Native American Music Awards.

El Hijo del Fantasma will be staying in AAA, rather than going to WWE. This means Impact will continue to be able to use him. That's definitely a plus for the X-Division.

Brian Pillman, Jr. has signed a multi-year deal with MLW. He could work NJPW during that time to train. He could really be a potential asset in the wrestling world.

WWE and NJPW are interested in Killer Kross. I don't blame them given his Impact tenure so far.

The Rock's older daughter is training at the WWE Performance Center. She would be WWE's first fourth-generation superstar. She's currently only 17, though, so let's not jump to conclusions.

Matt Riddle has begun training for WWE. It seems he's going to work with Kassius Ohno shortly. I look forward to that.

WALTER is being scouted for NXT UK, in a deal that would let him continue to work wXw in Germany. That could certainly be a big move for both parties.

WWE is considering further managers following the additions of Drake Maverick and Lio Rush, which could mean them scouting the indies for established managers.

Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix have committed to continuing to work with MLW in 2019, which should mean WWE is off the table for them for now. That's good news for AAA, LU, Impact, etc.

Smackdown Live will run Finland on May 10, 2019, the first show there in ten years. That's pretty cool.

Anthem has filed an extension in their lawsuit with Jeff Jarrett and GFE.

McKenzie Mitchell has returned to Impact Wrestling as part of the Mexico tapings. She's expected to also work Bound For Glory weekend. Alicia Atout is also part of the ongoing tapings, which is a little odd since the previous idea was to use her in Canada and McKenzie in the U.S. and Mexico to cut down on travel costs.

Dean Ambrose discussed a serious staph infection that prolonged his recovery. He had a really, really tough road back to the ring. I'm glad he's back and doing something he enjoys.

Curt Hawkins' WWE Network collection features memorable losses from across WWE's history on top of some of his own WWE TV losses. That's a good move. I doubt there's a lot of demand for a lot of Main Event matches.

Austin Aries has a book signing and conversation in Maryland on September 18. He's all over the place these days!

New Day vs. Rusev Day has been moved to Hell In A Cell's Kickoff show. That's a bit of a surprise given how much TV time the tournament got, but it makes sense to put that there instead of any other match on the card.

Impact Wrestling drew 258,000 viewers Thursday night. I'm curious if we'll see any big changes at BFG to try to increase their audience.

WWE will debut in Uruguay this December with a Raw live event. Interestingly, Matt Hardy is advertised despite his uncertain in-ring future. Either way, this is another step in WWE's international reach.

Natalya discussed talking to The Rock after her father's passing.

Alexa Bliss and Ember Moon appeared with Hyundai to promote childhood cancer research.

The Monster Factory is holding its first-ever TV taping. The school has produced stars for decades. I hope this elevates the school and those who are training there.

Ronda Rousey has trademarked "The Rowdy Ones" for wrestling and merchandise purposes. She's also trademarked "Rowdywear" for merchandise purposes. It's interesting she's able to do that independently of WWE, but it could have been part of the deal to sign her.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1.a. Brock keeps things pretty under wraps, wisely playing WWE and UFC against each other to get the best, most profitable opportunities.

1.b. That would seem to indicate Brock is still under a WWE deal and Heyman's working some other duties while Brock looks at his UFC future. There had been talk of having a new Paul Heyman client, but that seems to have died down.

2. I haven't seen his name in relation to wrestling in a long, long time. He seemingly retired in 2009.

3. I would be very surprised if he's not on Super Show-Down. That would be a huge missed opportunity. If he's not there, he'll almost definitely be at the next Saudi show in early November.

4. I think there's a good chance it happens, since she worked the Royal Rumble. She might not have a big match, but she could be on the show.

5. It's a way to avoid spoiling what happens at their Japanese shows. The California show is kind of like Super Show-Down compared to a more important show taking place in Japan beforehand. They do seem to have overestimated the demand for the event following so closely behind All In and the previous California shows. We'll see how that affects their U.S. plans going forward.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Friday, September 14, 2018

Ring Warriors highlights, BFG sells out, BFG sponsor, November Impact tapings set, AAA name on Impact next week, new Hidden Gems, WWE stars present award, new match type in 2K19, former world champion in and out of MLW, MLW getting more coverage, MLW staff update, Rock book coming, NJPW names working Ireland, FOX loves SDL, Interviews with Stephanie/Dream, Road Dogg responds to Becky angle, and Questions on Angle's future, 205 names on Raw, who does and doesn't get into WWE games, and wanting to be a wrestler

Ring Warriors put out a highlight reel before their debut. I look forward to seeing more of Cobb in particular.

Bound For Glory has officially sold out. That's fantastic! It's good to see Impact can draw some crowds here and there.

- COMDA.com will be sponsoring the show. That's another way to get paid.

Impact Wrestling will tape in Nevada from November 11 through November 13. It will be good to have a new location.

AAA's Faby Apache vs. Alisha Edwards is set for next week's Impact from Mexico. It's smart for Impact to use other promotions' talent where available.

WWE Network's latest Hidden Gems include:
- Beth Phoenix vs. ODB vs. Katie Lea Burchill (Winter/Katarina Leigh) from OVW in 2006
- Kaitlyn vs. Rosa Mendes from FCW in 2011
- Renee Young's WWE audition from 2012

Titus O'Neil and Sonya Deville presented at the Beyond Sport Awards.

WWE 2K19 will feature the House of Horrors match. Can't say I expected that one, but it could be interesting.

James Storm debuted at MLW's latest TV taping, but is now done with the company. Storm has really been unable to find a place post-Impact.

MLW's TV station is looking to expand its MLW coverage. That hypothetically means good things if the channel can stay on the air!

Bruce Prichard, Konnan, and Tommy Dreamer are in key backstage roles for MLW. All of them have a lot of experience, so that bodes well.

The Rock is the subject of a book coming out in a few weeks. It will cover his work inside and post-WWE.

NJPW's LIJ, Will Ospreay, and Minoru Suzuki are working OTT's 4th anniversary show on October 13 in Ireland. NJPW talents are in demand around the globe!

FOX put over Smackdown Live coming to the channel. Fridays have really struggled for the network, so they're excited for the show to turn that around.

Stephanie McMahon promoted Evolution.

Velveteen Dream was profiled. Pretty interesting.

Road Dogg responded to fans criticizing the Becky Lynch angle. It's got to be tough having decades in the business like Dogg and having to listen to fans who think they "get it" better than he does. It definitely looks like Becky's grabbing the brass ring, though. I hope WWE takes that and runs with it.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Angle's preparing for an in-ring return. We'll see him back before too long.

2. It could certainly be a way to try to get Raw fans to check out the fledgling Network show, or Raw creative could see the work Drake and Lio are doing and want to use them on a bigger stage. I doubt we see Lashley or the Authors on 205 Live, but I do wonder what the long-term look is for the show once Smackdown Live moves to Fridays. I wouldn't assume it's a big enough priority for WWE to continue to keep it going, especially if it's not drawing a big audience.

3. Names that are easier to work with/don't ask for as high of a price are more likely to get chosen. Wrestlers on the WWE blacklist or want more money than WWE is willing to spend are more long shots.

Nothing to add to 4.

5. When I was like 9, definitely. But I was/am nowhere near athletic enough, nor do I want to go through that much pain voluntarily!

More wrestling tomorrow.

Former X-Division champion training, Interviews with Booker/Ember/Lagana/Catanzaro, NXT champ gets first merch, DDP Yoga meeting, former WWE name launches podcast, and Questions on Sid in the WWE HoF, honoring Prazak, how to do HHH vs. Taker, random turns in WWE, and Owens un-quitting

DJ Z is holding a seminar September 23.

Booker T. is on Stone Cold's latest podcast.

Kairi Sane has her first NXT T-shirt. She's really grown on me.

Ember Moon promoted a Raw live event.

DDP had The Iron Sheik, Johnny Impact, and Titus O'Neil at his yoga center. I could see Titus being successful in non-wrestling endeavors.

NWA's David Lagana talked about All In, the 70th anniversary event, and more. Here are highlights. Pretty interesting approach to promoting in 2018. I wish them well doing something different from what others are doing.

Kacy Catanzaro promoted the MYC. She's definitely got impressive athleticism.

Eva Marie has launched her own podcast. I don't expect her to be at Evolution.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. If both sides are open to it, it's a possibility. It's all a matter of someone in WWE wanting to make it happen and Sid agreeing to appear.

2. I generally wait until someone's career is over or has reached a certain length before making that call. He's certainly had an important effect on the current wrestling scene.

3. Basically they just need to go through their signature spots for that nostalgia/it's a big deal just to see you live pop. They don't need to try to have a "five-star" match or anything.

4. Again, you're almost definitely more concerned about this than WWE or Little Jimmy. They decide they want to go in a different direction for someone and they go with it. As long as the money keeps rolling in and no one threatens their status, they're going to continue to operate the way they do.

5. Owens either had a change of heart or was trying to catch Lashley by surprise.

More wrestling tomorrow.

NXT, MYC, and ROH Reax - 9/12/18

Read on for my thoughts on last night's NXT, MYC, and ROH.

Wednesday, September 12, 2018

Raw+MLW guests, former Impact staff at MLW, SDL anniversary book date, NXT women's angle, WWE 2K19 adds legends, Interview with Zelina, how WM1 affected WWE, Raw audience, and Questions on Sasha not being pushed, what does and doesn't make a heel, a Rocky Balboa story in WWE, WOS Wrestling, and who won't be in an ROH HoF

The 2018 Warrior Award winner visited Raw. That's pretty cool. I'm glad he's doing well.

Impact's Diamante and former WWE and ECW name Pablo Marquez were at MLW: Wargames, which may or may not be signs of something greater.

Impact's former ring and transportation manager is now working for MLW. It's good to have experienced help there.

The Smackdown 20th anniversary book will release May 7, 2019.

NXT ran an angle where Dakota Kai and Deonna Purrazzo had an altercation with Lacey Evans and Aliyah. That was interesting.

WWE 2K19 revealed a list of playable legends.

Zelina Vega discussed losing her father in the September 11, 2001 attacks.

WrestleMania I's effect on WWE was documented. I don't think it's hyperbole to say you can separate the wrestling business into pre-WM1 and post-WM1.

Raw drew 2.74 million viewers against the return of NFL football.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. They've largely been behind Alexa retaining her championship for a long time, and they seem to keep going back and forth on what to do with the Sasha/Bayley story. Then, they wanted to give Nia and now Ronda shots as the top face of the division. So it's not a matter of them not liking Sasha as much as it is them having other plans for other people.

2. Honestly, "heel" and "face" are somewhat arbitrary given the antics of each side. It's kind of a case of someone being given that label and Creative running with it. It's not just a wrestling thing, either. When someone you like does something questionable, you excuse it, but when someone you don't like does something honorable, you generally still hold a grudge in spite of that fact. Long story short, don't think too much about it. They don't! But, yes, this is all about getting Roman cheered as the top face.

3. You could say they did that with Goldberg recently. Other than that, they generally focus on younger wrestlers overcoming the odds.

4. No. I don't watch much beyond what I cover here. There's definitely such a thing as watching too much wrestling.

5. It would definitely be awkward for ROH to celebrate someone who can't appear at the ceremony. That's a shame, really, because there are some really deserving names that should be held high by ROH.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Smackdown Live and 205 Live Reax - 9/11/18

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Smackdown Live and 205 Live.

Tuesday, September 11, 2018

Impact title defended at indie show, Interviews with Jazz/Hulk, NWA title rematch set, Raw announce change permanent, top Impact name hurt, Jarrett and Impact meeting re: GFW, podcast notes, WWE HoFer at SD1000, WWE exec honored, new Foley merch, Matt Hardy addresses fan questions, another Arquette match set, Maria injury update, SDL match announced, major CMLL show on Honorclub, Raw cameos, and Questions on faces not helping The Shield, if we're in a boom period, and booking Braun as Mr. MITB

The X-Division Championship will be on the line at a Delaware independent event Saturday night as Brian Cage faces Franco Varga. That's good visibility for Cage and his title.

Jazz talked about WWE, Impact, and more. It's telling she hasn't been booked anywhere major in a while. I liked her work, but I don't think she'd be on TV at 45 regardless of her look.

Cody vs. Nick Aldis for the NWA World Championship will headline NWA's 70th Anniversary event. The NWA National Championship and NWA Women's Championship could also be on the line on that show. That show's a big opportunity for the brand, and for GFW/GFE by proxy.

Renee Young has replaced Jonathan Coachman on Raw's announce team, with Coachman returning to hosting Kickoff. That's a pretty important move. I'm curious if it will lead to any change in female viewership.

- Coachman tweeted an interesting response to being moved from the role. It sounds like he might have been caught off-guard by the change.

Johnny Impact is working through an unspecified injury. I hope that doesn't ruin Impact (the company)'s long-term plans for him. I'd think there's a chance he'd face and defeat Austin Aries at BFG.

Jeff Jarrett and Impact have had discussions regarding the GFW lawsuit. Impact has not officially responded in court. I hope they can work something out in a timely and inexpensive manner.

Hulk Hogan discussed nWo vs. The Shield and more. The nWo got by more on their gimmick than The Shield has. Reigns, Rollins, and Ambrose were young and hungry and really busted their asses. Hogan, Nash, and Hall were all established guys creating another lucrative chapter for themselves.

Bob Holly is on Steve Austin's latest podcast.

Lanny Poffo discussed All In weekend on his latest podcast. It was good to see him with Lethal again.

Edge is booked for Smackdown 1000. He was a key part of the show for many years.

WWE's senior vice president of community relations was named one of SportsBusiness Journal's Game Changers of 2018.

Mick Foley got a new T-shirt before his Raw appearance.

Zelina Vega is on Lilian Garcia's latest podcast.

Matt Hardy answered fan questions. He also indicated Woken Matt Hardy was working some final dates. As always, that could just mean he'll do a different character when he's next in the ring there. I wouldn't write his in-ring career off just yet.

David Arquette will wrestle in New York this weekend, taking time off from filming a movie nearby. Arquette is also part of a documentary chronicling his return to wrestling. It's good to see the former world champion's comeback tour being given its due.

Maria Kanellis has had the cast taken off her broken wrist.

Smackdown Live will start with Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Jeff Hardy for the United States Championship. Orton's return has all but eclipsed Shinsuke.

CMLL's 85th anniversary show will air on Honorclub on September 14. That's a nice bonus for subscribers of the service.

Wildkat Wrestling's Buku Dao was the wrestler attacked by Braun Strowman backstage Monday. That promotion's Johnny Flex and Nathan Bradley lost to the Authors of Pain. Who knows? Maybe those appearances will be considered Hidden Gems someday!

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. A reasonable answer is that the heels had all coordinated the beatdown beforehand, and by the time a group of babyfaces could figure out what was going on and potentially band together, it was too late to save those three. And really, I could see them not wanting to be on the receiving end of that kind of punishment themselves!

2. Certainly from a financial standpoint WWE and ROH are doing better than they've ever done, and NJPW is doing better than it's done in quite some time (especially outside of Japan). People are really excited for the ring work, as well. I agree we need to see where things go in the months and years ahead, but things definitely look good for the wrestling scene compared to years ago.

3. If Braun does lose, it's to elevate Roman and get his title reign off to a good start after finally defeating Brock.

4. Because he gets Roman trapped inside HIAC. It could also be arrogance because he's sure he'll win.

5. That's pretty much what they did with Brock, although of course he was on a part-time schedule. After more than a year of a heel champion beating everyone, I could see WWE changing direction and having Roman hold the title for a while as a face.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Raw Reax - 9/10/18

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Raw.

Monday, September 10, 2018

NXT live event notes, WCW name passes, SDL matches, Cody booked as NWA Champion, and Questions on Ronda struggling vs. Stephanie, Raw's tag division, the forgotten Divas Championship, Ronda in intergender matches, and why Alexa is facing Trish

NXT's Rinku Singh and Jeet Rama returned to the ring for the first time since August this weekend in Florida. Singh defeated Kona Reeves while Rama lost to Brennan Williams. If Reeves' push has already peaked, that doesn't really bode well for him. He's been in NXT three years, after all.

Former WCW star Frank Andersson passed away at 62 due to complications from heart surgery. He was largely over for his work in Europe.

Added to Smackdown Live:
- Andrade "Cien" Almas vs. R-Truth
- Brie Bella vs. Maryse in a rematch from a 2010 Raw

Cody will work the September 16 Championship Wrestling From Hollywood taping as NWA World Champion. I'm interested to see how his reign goes, and what it will mean for the NWA.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. About the only answer I have is WWE didn't want a WrestleMania match to be that short. So, yes, in essence they consider Stephanie tougher than they considered Daniel Bryan against Sheamus.

2. I'm also a fan of The B-Team and The Revival, and wish they weren't pushed aside so soon, but I see why WWE put the title on Dolph and Drew to elevate things.

3. WWE's pretty Orwellian as far as presenting their history/ignoring certain things. It's more forgivable when the whole show is presented as a work.

4. Ronda destroying Mike Kanellis or something is one thing, but they really shouldn't put themselves in a position to show male-on-female violence. It's uncomfortable for a lot of people to watch, and not in the "heel getting heat" way. WWE wants to be family-friendly, and this falls in line with that.

5. They have an opportunity to put Alexa on the map if she can beat Trish. We've seen Trish and Lita face off quite a bit, and it wouldn't do anything for any current member of the roster to have them compete. Even Mickie beating Lita won't mean much since Mickie's already essentially set for life from her previous run.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Sunday, September 9, 2018

Main Event Reax - 9/8/18, new Network content, MYC lineup, Foley's standup show debut set, Rock grants MAW wish, SDL match set, former ECW Champion arrested, NXT+SDL live event notes, Neidhart honored, and Questions on WWE's reaction to Y2J and Jarrett at All In, how WWE will spend their new TV money, and HBK back in the ring

-- Main Event:
- Breeze vs. Kanellis:
So-so start.

This is improving after a slow start.

Not much to write home about.

- Mojo vs. Zack:
Good action so far.

Not bad!

A new "Story Time" will debut after Raw, including Jake Roberts, Paul Heyman, and Chris Jericho.

WWE Marquee Matches Tuesday will feature John Cena vs. C.M. Punk vs. Alberto Del Rio inside Hell In A Cell from 2011.

- Thursday's episode will feature Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens inside Hell In A Cell from 2016.

- Friday's episode will feature New Day vs. The Usos inside Hell In A Cell from 2017.

This week's MYC will feature:
- Deonna Purrazzo vs. Priscilla Kelly
- Ariel Monroe vs. Zeuxis
- Kacy Catanzaro vs. Reina Gonzalez
- Ashley Rayne vs. Mercedes Martinez

Mick Foley's WWE Network special will follow the Hell In A Cell event Sunday.

The Rock granted a Make A Wish wish on the set of "Jungle Cruise."

Charlotte Flair vs. Sonya Deville is official for Smackdown Live. I think we know how that one's going to go. I hope Sonya can make it long-term. She's solid.

Justin Credible was recently arrested for violating the protective order his wife filed against him for a second time. It's been a rocky road for the former ECW Champion lately. I hope things turn around soon.

Tyler Breeze worked another NXT live event on September 8, losing to Ricochet in a North American Championship match in Ohio.

Harper worked a singles match on a Smackdown Live event on September 8, losing to Karl Anderson in Texas. I hope something good is headed his way after all the work put into the Bludgeon Brothers.

The Smashing Pumpkins honored Jim Neidhart at a concert in Alberta.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Jericho's at a place where WWE needs him more than he needs WWE. He's shown he can be successful outside of their bubble, whether that's Fozzy or NJPW. He's willing to risk not being able to go back to WWE in order to change the wrestling landscape. And, really, if anyone can talk his way back into WWE after all this, it's Jericho. As for WWE, I expect they're going to make him a good pitch to work for them WrestleMania weekend instead of appearing at G1 Supercard, which again works in Jericho's favor.

2. WWE doesn't see Jarrett as as big of a priority as Jericho. They know, based on how GFW/GFE has gone so far, he's not going to be able to draw big crowds outside of WWE like Jericho can. So, they're less worried about what he's doing. As for why he appeared at All In, it was at Aldis' request because of what Jarrett has done for Aldis' career.

3. As alluded to, they're not just going to write a bunch of big checks to talents as soon as the deals kick in, but certainly current and upcoming talents are going to be able to ask for more money and WWE is going to be more willing to spend more on talent, etc. I fully expect more international focus in talent development and recruitment in the years to come as a result of the TV deals as a result. So,
Triple H will have an even bigger blank check for his pet projects.

4. I fully expect him to be ready for late 2018/early 2019. Heck, I wouldn't rule out him working more than once in that time period as stadium shows loom on the horizon.

5. If they had, it would call into question Johnson's independence as a journalist.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Saturday, September 8, 2018

Rock's father getting a movie, upcoming Network collections, Podcast notes, Bray teases new direction, WWE tie-ins, Final Battle set, assorted WWE press, Impact audience, Cody writing book, first MMC matches set, Raw+NXT live events set, Dream EVOLVE match result, and Questions on a NJPW Raw, veterans at Evolution, Becky as the new Bryan, and why WWE turned Braun

The Rock's father is the subject of an upcoming biopic. Somewhat surprisingly, The Rock isn't attached.

WWE Network is planning two new collections, covering Curt Hawkins' losing streak on September 17 and The Undertaker/Triple H rivalry on September 27. I love the running gag with Hawkins. He needs a WWE Network or YouTube series.

Chris Jericho discussed All In on his latest podcast. Jericho continues to revolutionize.

Chelsea Green is on Edge and Christian's latest podcast. I'd love to see WWE pick her up. She's shown some real range.

Bray Wyatt teased a new direction. Obviously a lot of people want to see him work with Harper and/or Braun again. I just worry Bray, Luke, and Erick are going to go through a constant shift of being together and apart.

WWE and WizKids have announced a multi-year licensing partnership. Another win for PG WWE. I'm interested in seeing what comes out of that.

ROH Final Battle has been confirmed for December 14 in New York City, returning to the Hammerstein Ballroom. That's something of a surprise with Supercard going to be in the same area.

Seth Rollins promoted Raw. I think he can be a franchise player for years to come.

WWE is teaming with DraftKings for a fantasy football contest. That's kind of an odd combination.

Impact Wrestling drew 236,000 viewers Thursday night, making for six straight weeks below 250,000. Whether those numbers are good enough is up for POP to decide.

Cody is writing a children's book. That's awesome!!! Again I ask why he'd go back to WWE when he can do this outside of it.

Drew McIntyre promoted a Raw live event.

MMC Season 2's first episode will feature Braun Strowman and Alexa Bliss vs. Kevin Owens and Natalya as well as AJ Styles and Charlotte Flair vs. Jimmy Uso and Naomi.

NXT stars and Raw stars met children dealing with cancer.

At NXT's September 7 live event in Florida:
- Tony Nese defeated Kona Reeves. Damn. Kona can't even beat someone who's just on 205 Live.
- Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan became number one contenders to the NXT Tag Team Championship after defeating The Street Profits.

At Raw's September 7 live event in Alabama:
- Bobby Roode and Chad Gable defeated Jinder Mahal and Mojo Rawley, so the Roode/Gable pairing at least lasted that long.
- Matt Hardy teamed with Bray Wyatt in a triple threat tag team match where Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre retained their championship over the Deleters and The B-Team. Matt seems to be

At NXT's September 7 live event in Pennsylvania:
- Vanessa Borne returned to action on this loop after not being in action since August 3. On this event, she teamed with Shayna Baszler in a surprise loss to Candice LeRae and Nikki Cross.
- Tyler Breeze defeated Dan Matha

Veleveteen Dream defeated Austin Theory at EVOLVE 112, and teased an eventual rematch in NXT.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Very small unless a major network offers them a lot of money to do it. Both companies are driven by their live events. NJPW doesn't have that big of a TV presence in the U.S. yet, and what they do have is largely just broadcasts of their live shows. ROH is focused on local syndicated programming, so that factor would come into play with any additional TV content. Of course, there's also the issue of what time it should air so it can be seen both in the U.S. and Japan. New York's 8:00 p.m. is Tokyo's 9:00 a.m. I expect more NJPW expansion in the U.S. and more NJPW content on AXS in 2019, but I really don't see a "Raw" happening anytime soon.

Nothing to add to 2.

3. I think the show should have a mix of veterans who can still go, up-and-coming stars, and established names getting to show what they can do. It's a special event and should be treated like one. Of course, it's worth noting they're trying to draw a big crowd and it might be hard to do that without some of the veterans. All that said, I definitely don't want a case where they just bring in people with name value that can't hang with today's stars and ultimately take time away from solid wrestling.

4. It's definitely a case of WWE thinking most of the audience will be behind one superstar while other parts of the audience are more in favor of a different superstar who doesn't fit the stereotypical WWE mold as much. I'd love to see Becky get a big push out of this. Charlotte hardly needs the title or wins to be over.

5. WWE wants Roman as Raw's top face. As such, he needs top heels to work with. WWE's willing to potentially cut Braun off if it means Roman can continue to be their centerpiece star. As for The Shield, it made sense for Dean to help Seth against Drew and Dolph and maybe those two figured while they're working together, they should just reunite with Roman, too!

More wrestling tomorrow.

Friday, September 7, 2018

Hogan makes good with old friend, Matt Hardy on Network idea, WWE seeking new hires, Johnny Impact+MYC name+HoFer wrestling school profiled, more on OVW 1000, final(?) All In notes, more on Tessa-WOW, Bryan signs new deal, NXT UK injury updates, MYC Hidden Gems, WWE working with car company for charity, WOH title match set for DBD, SDL audience, a lot of 2K19 names confirmed, new WWE history coming, Rock's show renewed, NXT live event notes, and Questions on Drake joining the Authors, reuniting the Wyatts, Maryse in HIAC, Gulak on Raw, and seeing the Bellas in action again

Hulk Hogan and Brutus Beefcake have publicly reconciled after their relationship hit the rocks recently.

Matt Hardy teased doing more Broken/Woken content on WWE Network, seemingly confirming he would have creative control over such an endeavor. It will be interesting to see how much demand there is for such an idea at this juncture.

WWE's Entertainment Relations department in Los Angeles is seeking an administrative assistant and coordinator. I was unaware they had such a division, much less one so far from headquarters.

Johnny Impact was profiled in Entertainment Weekly as part of appearing on Survivor.

OVW's 1000th episode will be a live Internet PPV.

Another batch of All In notes:
- Attendance peaked at 11,263 because that was the maximum number of people legally allowed in the building. I can only imagine how many people they would have drawn for a bigger venue.

- Every single piece of merchandise available at the venue was sold.

- Highspots.com had their most successful weekend ever, topping what they do on WrestleMania weekend.

- Mike Tenay and Tony Schiavone were asked to work All In. Schiavone was already booked for a college football commitment, while Tenay never agreed to terms. Tenay is essentially retired from the business, but that could have really been great.

Tessa Blanchard will be a trainer for WOW. She's really starting to make herself valuable.

Daniel Bryan has signed a new WWE contract. It's unknown the length or number of dates involved, but he'll be staying there.

Toni Storm's injury is spine-related. She's expected to return to the ring at the end of the month. I hope she's able to be an important player.

NXT UK's Sam Gradwell suffered a torn ACL, and will likely miss six-to-nine months.

WWE Network's latest Hidden Gems include:
- MYC's Mercedes Martinez vs. Victoria on Heat from 2006.
- MYC's Meiko Satomura and Madusa vs. Akira Hokuto and Kaoru on WCW Worldwide in 1997.

WWE is working with Hyundai to raise money for childhood cancer research.

Sumie Sakai vs. Tenille Dashwood for the WOH Championship is official for Death Before Dishonor. That one's going to be important for the division's future.

Smackdown Live drew 2.32 million viewers Tuesday night.

WWE 2K19 added a slew of Smackdown Live and 205 Live talents.

WWE is getting an oral history book, featuring a lot of quotes from Vince McMahon. That should be fun.

"Ballers" has been picked up for a fourth season.

The Nasty Boys have a retro shirt on WWE Shop. I'm surprised to see that, actually.

MYC's Lacey Lane spoke.

Afa the Wild Samoan spoke about his wrestling school. Glad WWE promoted him.

At NXT's New York live event on September 6:
- Tyler Breeze defeated Marcel Barthel
- Ricochet defeated Luke Harper (!!!!!!). I hope we see that on SDL or Raw someday.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I'm willing to see how it goes. It's definitely better than how things were going without Drake.

2. I'm definitely in favor of the current direction. Dolph and Drew are a bigger deal right now than Bray and Harper.

3. Realistically even if she was 100% I wouldn't expect her to do much. Miz and Bryan are the full-timers. They'll do most of the work.

4. I doubt WWE even thought of it. GET OUT THERE AND FIGHT THE SHIELD GODDAMNIT.

Nothing to add to 5.

6. 100%.

More wrestling tomorrow.

Impact Wrestling Reax - 9/6/18

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Impact Wrestling.

Thursday, September 6, 2018

Podcast notes, Raw taping in December, special Raw merch, potential new Network series, Impact name signs with new AXS show, why Ellsworth was at SDL, Nia update, final Supercard tickets, even more on All In, Raw audience, WWE names on People's Choice, Finlay profiled, new SSD match, former ROH announcer passes, and Questions on HBK vs. Taker, Bellas switching brands, All In vs. Takeovers, men vs. women in WWE, NXT's Finest, and Braun recruiting others

Sting is on Bill Apter's latest podcast.

Raw's New Year's Eve show will tape on December 28. So, the Raw stars will get to be with their families on that holiday.

Alexa Bliss had a special shirt on sale in her hometown. She has tough love for Ohio.

DDP was Joe Rogan's latest podcast, as well as this week's "F*** That's Delicious." Interesting combination.

WWE Network is gauging interest in the following new series:
- WWE Now Live (a morning show)
- History of FCW
- Documentaries on superstars of the past
- Superstar/Superfan, focusing on current workers' time as fans
- Xavier's Arcade Challenge, where Xavier Woods will play fans in arcades.
- WWE Cheat Day with Becky Lynch, covering what superstars eat when they indulge
- Fashion Police Unsolved Mysteries with Breezango. YESSSSSSSS.
- House Hardy: Halloween special, in line with some of the Broken/Woken content of the past
- NXT UK as a Network series, which could indicate broadcast plans have stalled
- NXT's weekly series becoming live
- Starrcade and similar live event specials

Tessa Blanchard has signed to AXS' WOW series. Katarina Leigh/Katie Lea Burchill/Winter and Santana Garrett are also attached.

James Ellsworth was at Smackdown Live to be interviewed for something related to female talents. I'd pop for him appearing at Evolution to be beat down, but I'm clearly more behind James than
WWE is.

Nia Jax has been at the WWE Performance Center doing physical therapy on her leg. I would have liked to have seen her in the mix recently.

G1 Supercard has released a final batch of tickets as they have completed their production setup for the event. The show is going to be one of the most significant wrestling shows in decades.

Even more All In notes:
- Zero Hour drew 196,000 viewers on WGN America.

- The official announced attendance was 11,263. That really blew away my expectations.

- Highspots.com has a lot of official merchandise and collectibles to follow the show.

- Cody and the Young Bucks covered the show in a supersized Being The Elite featuring footage from after the show went off the air.

Raw drew 2.87 million viewers Monday, almost exactly what they drew last week.

WWE had the following nominations for the 2018 People's Choice Awards:
- Monday Night Raw for Show of 2018
- Nikki Bella for Reality TV Star of 2018 and Competition Contestant of 2018 (for Dancing With The Stars)
- Nia Jax for Game Changer of 2018
- The Rock for Movie Star of 2018 and Action Movie Star of 2018
- John Cena for Comedy Movie Star of 2018

The Miz threw out the first pitch at a Cleveland MLB game. Sports ICON.

Fit Finlay is profiled in Natalya's latest newspaper column, specifically celebrating his work with the women.

WWE Super Show-Down has added Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch for the Smackdown Women's Championship. Hopefully they don't go from a Cell match to a regular one-on-one match.

Former ROH announcer Mike Hogewood passed away at 63. Hogewood was prominent in the local sports scene before and after his ROH tenure. His distinctive voice will be missed.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. It wouldn't shock me to see that happen. WM35 would definitely be a good place for them to end the era for the last time ever again, although I'm sure WWE would like to keep them both around for future stadium shows in the years to come.

2. It's been so long since either of them wrestled that maybe their contracts expired and now they're working as free agents!

3. The two of them are pretty different, and going for different audiences. All In had the advantage of being something of a self-contained show rather than being on the normal calendar rotation like Takeover. All In definitely had something for everyone, whereas NXT is necessarily focused on a certain roster and style.

4. Basically outside of a rare storyline situation like James Ellsworth where the man will be humiliated by a more technically sound woman, WWE wants to avoid that because it's uncomfortable for a lot of people to watch male-on-female violence.

5. I don't see him as having natural charisma. It still feels like he's consciously playing a character.

6. I think some of that was Corbin's doing. Either way, what's wrong with a heel wanting to do all that more damage to those three?

More wrestling tomorrow.
