NXT thoughts- 2/29/12

Welp. We've finally done it. Made it to the ONE YEAR anniversary of this season of NXT. Not only is there still not a winner, but there hasn't been any indication that there will be anytime soon. But that's ok, because tonight Matt Striker has a big announcement that will change the very face of the show. And, two big matches have already been announced: Season 3 winner Kaitlyn goes one-on-one with her rival, the vindictive Maxine. Also, Tyson Kidd battles Michael McGillicutty in a match-up of former tag team champions with a lot to prove. All this and more. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Live crowd segment at Raw involving HHH, Questions on blaming Rock, Mania contract signings, Cena winning at Mania, bad segments, and Rhodes passing HTM, Raw and Smackdown trade GMs next week, Rock's post-Raw promo, Cena meets a survivor, Vader interview, Hemme "wardrobe malfunction", Rock's promo notes, Kendrick talks TNA release, Hardy ill, change in TNA announcing, JBL responds to critics of part-timers, and a Slaughter interview

Following The Miz's loss to John Cena, he demanded an authority figure to come out and give him a match at WrestleMania. Triple H came to the ring, gave him a Pedigree, and did the crotch chop. I guess that could be part of Miz's punishment for not catching R-Truth the other week? Otherwise, I don't know what that really brought to the table.

Update: here's footage.

Here are my responses for PWInsider.com's Tuesday questions:
1. It's hard to argue with that one. I also can't really blame Rock for making a comeback fans have been asking for for years now when he could easily go off and be Dwayne Johnson the actor 100% of the time. So, while I understand the frustration, I think it's at least partially misguided.

2. Who's to say there won't be more than one? Punk/Jericho would indeed be pretty big, but I wouldn't count out Sheamus/Bryan. The other two top matches are so big that something as mundane as a contract signing would cheapen them some in my book.

3. I was going to just say something along the lines of "yes, Cena should win", but if it's handled right, I think a loss could be better for him. That's a BIG if, though. That match result is always going to say that he couldn't get the job done.

After the break, I go into everything else for the day, starting with a question on bad segments.

Query on Jackson Andrews, mascot part of live event, Questions on Taker cutting his hair, Cena vs. Rock, Punk vs. Chris Brown, HHH vs. Taker, and "What" chants, note on Cena, Kendrick released, more on Aries' comments, another Trish interview, Smackdown replay rating, Rock responds to criticism by wrestlers, UFC fighter at Raw, and what happened after Raw

First up, a query: I'm not 100% sure why Jackson Andrews (Tyson Kidd's bodyguard for a cup of coffee in late 2010) was released, but I seem to remember that he was sent back to FCW when they didn't feel that he was ready for the main roster. While I've gotten a number of queries on him over the course of this blog, I've seen precious little on him since his release.

The University of Oregon mascot worked with R-Truth on the 2/26 live event. I guess he's not afraid of ducks like he is with spiders.

As for my take on Monday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Maybe they're looking at it from the standpoint that Taker last appeared with long hair, so they "need to explain" why he doesn't have as much hair anymore. I don't really know what (if anything) they're referencing either, nor do I know how cutting his hair would make him more of a challenge to HHH, but I'm sure there could be some kind of kayfabe explanation.

2. Yeah, if you're going to accuse WWE of forgetting something important, make sure they actually forgot something important. I think they did tease it being a title match when Cena was Champion at the Rock appreciation night thing, but it wasn't official. I agree that the title should be separate.

3. I don't think so either. I'd be pretty ticked off if it was a work just to play off Brown's notoriety.

After the break, I go into everything else from Monday, starting with another HHH/Taker feud questions.

Raw thoughts- 2/27/12

The road to WrestleMania continues to heat up. Full-timers C.M. Punk, Daniel Bryan, Sheamus, and John Cena will be continuing their year-round battles to be at the top of the company, while Chris Jericho, Triple H, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, and The Rock pop back in to show that they've still got it. Who will strike the next blows in these epic rivalries? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Foley and Tyson interviews, Raw live event note, Questions on Long vs. Ace, heat on Rock vs. Jericho, A-Ry, and Mascaras, 2 matches set for Impact, and a Cena update

Mick Foley was interviewed again in the UK. Some wacky stuff in places.

Mike Tyson briefly mentioned wrestling in his own interview.

Ryback defeated JTG on the 2/25 Raw house show. Brodus Clay has been working live events as well.

Sunday brought out more PWInsider.com questions. Here's my take on them:
1. It wouldn't surprise me. I'd at least expect them to be in cornermen at the show.

After the break, I go into everything else from Sunday, starting with why people in WWE are upset with Rock but not Jericho.

Query on Christian turning face, Trish and Foley interviews, Questions on Doink, Cena/Rock, closing Mania, moving TNA, and drafting top FCW stars, Raw live event note, Smackdown live event pictures, and another Champion vs. Champion bout in the works?

First up for Saturday, a query:
1. While it's always possible that Christian will turn face, I don't see it happening any time in the next couple of months. Since he returned as a heel and seems like such an obvious opponent for Sheamus for the World Title, I think that's the route WWE will be going.

Here's part 1 of an interview with Trish Stratus, in which she discusses the potential for one more match/rivalry, and gives some interesting opinions on the controversial character directions for Eve and Natalya. I guess if Trish's character can survive being made to bark like a dog by Vince McMahon, their characters can go beyond where they are now. They can at least say they're getting TV time. Trish working to improve the Divas division behind-the-scenes would be a godsend. She made good points about putting the Divas division on the map. I think in addition to the likes of Beth and Tamina, Kaitlyn and Maxine have made fans care about what they're doing from a wrestling standpoint on NXT. I recommend some of their recent matches if you're a fan of Divas wrestling. They're not godsends, but they've been impressive.

Mick Foley was also interviewed recently about his comedy tour and potential WM28 roles. I do think Foley could add to the HIAC match. If they're going to go full-out nostalgia, they might as well involve him. Funny and smart guy. Some fans hate Cena because they see him as the embodiment of everything they dislike about the PG, mainstream WWE.

For my take on PWInsider.com's Saturday questions:
1. Don't give them any ideas! There's enough bad "sports entertainment" on the shows as it is. I don't see that character appearing doing anyone any particular favors outside of a nostalgia reaction.

After the break, I go into everything else from Saturday, starting with a question on John Cena vs. The Rock.

Interviews with Phoenix, Daniels, and HBK, Questions on wrestling vs. boxing rings, Jacquelyn, and the sound of the Impact Wrestling Zone, Trish interview, heat on Austin Aries?, Z! TLIS #54, WWE signs a new referee, Mysterio interview, and the Impact Wrestling rating

Beth Phoenix was interviewed ahead of a live event. Good little "puff piece". I like that she had good things to say about her opponent instead of making her seem like she wasn't a threat.

Christopher Daniels also talked ahead of a TNA house show. There have been times when I've really enjoyed seeing him. At this point, though, I think I've seen just about everything he can do against guys like Styles and Kazarian. That's not really a knock on him, just the repetitive situation.

Shawn Michaels was interviewed by WWE.com to continue the HHH/Taker angle. I'm kind of liking the "TMZ" approach they're taking with things like this and Backstage Fallout.

PWInsider.com had some new questions to look at on Friday:
Nothing to add to 1, but for 2. If I'm not mistaken wrestling used to be covered under the same rules as boxing in some places, meaning that women and masked competitors weren't allowed. It makes sense that there would be differences between the rings given that sometimes wrestlers "need" to get through the ropes for spots and fall down a lot more than boxers.

After the break, I go into everything else from yesterday, starting with a question on a Divas' Title match.

WWE Q4 2011 results and analysis

WWE finally released its business for the last 3 months of 2011, and I can see why they waited so long. I'll go into all of it after the break.

More Punk-Brown press, JR talks Mania, Mr.Punk interview, Pec-Tacular update, Questions on Morrison-WWE, Cole, Smackdown rating, Natalya blogs, Gangrel talks about a rib Vince played on Donald Trump, NFL player in TNA full-time?

Here's video of C.M. Punk on "Showbiz Tonight", addressing the Chris Brown situation. Punk choking him out would be worth the price of WrestleMania in of itself.

Jim Ross talked about wrestling and WrestleMania, specifically John Cena's promo. That was indeed a very genuine moment from him. He understands about connecting with the audience being the end-all, be-all of the business. I wish more did.

C.M. Punk was interviewed. Very ballsy, intelligent guy. A pretty must-listen interview from a very one-of-a-kind performer. I'd love to hear more from him.

TNA developmental performer Jessie Godderz is said to be on his way to the main roster in 2012. I hope he's worth all the hype.

As for my take on Thursday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. They were certainly interested in doing that at one point, but the longer it goes without happening, the less likely I'd say it is. He's apparently branching out from wrestling for at least a bit, so I wouldn't assume he'd be with either promotion by year's end.

Nothing to add to 2, so I'll move on to 3 (and the rest of the day's news and questions) after the break. Next up, silencing Michael Cole.

Superstars and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 2/23/12

This week's WWE Superstars has a decidedly international flavor. The South African sensation Justin Gabriel is going one on one with the Punjabi pugilist Jinder Mahal. Who will further their career with a win? Then, on Impact Wrestling, what will be the fallout for Bobby Roode bloodying Sting? Samoa Joe and Magnus must defend their Tag Team Championships against Matt Morgan and Crismon, and the main event will pit Kurt Angle and Bully Ray against Jeff Hardy and James Storm. Brandon Jacobs of the New York Giants will be in their corner, and there will be no disqualifications! All that and more today. Read on for my thoughts on the shows as they happen.

NXT thoughts- 2/23/12

Last week, Johnny Curtis manipulated his ex-girlfriend Maxine into attacking her long-time rival (and possible love interest of her boyfriend), Kaitlyn. What will befall Derrick Bateman's complicated love life this week? Also this week continues the fall from grace of former fan-favorite Titus O'Neil. What's on his agenda now? As always, cameos from the other brands will be prevalent. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Query on Devon's sons, celebrity at Smackdown, no Shaq at Mania?, Tyson interview, Questions on Sheamus/Bryan, Chambers vs. cages, referees in the Hall, ring time in the Chamber, and Bruiser Brody vs. Hogan, Foley interview, Eve talks ahead of live event, Raw rating, Punk talks Chris Brown, Over The Limit commercial, New Jack KOs a Nasty Boy, USA doing a Cena/Rock special, and Otunga talks bullying

Because WWE hasn't put up this week's NXT for whatever reason, I'm going to go ahead and post Wednesday's news. This week's show will be given the date 2/23 due to the late posting. It will still be separate from Superstars and Impact Wrestling.

Wednesday's news starts with a query:
1. Given that the angle hasn't been mentioned in a while, I'm assuming the whole "Devon and his sons" thing is over for TNA. There hasn't been anything to suggest that it will continue, and it was pretty much wrapped up.

Jennifer Hudson was backstage at Smackdown. That's the first time I'm aware of that that's happened, though she did once attend an FCW event when her fiance was competing pre-WWE.

WWE.com is reporting that despite Shaquille O'Neal's claims to the contrary, there are no plans for him to be on the card for WrestleMania. I'm thinking this could be a red herring on WWE's part, as in he's "not officially part of the card yet". More on this story as it develops.

Mike Tyson discussed wrestling in an interview. Props for him actually being a serious fan.

PWInsider.com had some new questions for Wednesday. Here's my take on them:
1. While I doubt that was the primary reason they went with that match-up and I agree that they wouldn't do it if they didn't think it was the right idea for this year's World Title match, that'd be one heck of a coincidence. If Vince can sort of apologize for berating Foley as a Smackdown announcer by plugging his book when he was in TNA, MAYBE this is at least partially a mea culpa.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with how the Elimination Chamber differs from a regular cage match.

Raw injury upates, backstage response to Cena promo, HHH/Taker go long, backstage visitors, Questions on DiBiase vs. Hunico, Otunga, changing booking, and Christian, GQ looks at RKK, new TNA Gut Check, Lockdown poster, new DiBiase site, 2/17 Smackdown rating, and what happened after the live Smackdown

Dolph Ziggler was ok after being checked out by medical staff post-Raw. He took a legitimately hard bump in the main event.

Wade Barrett suffered a dislocated elbow in that same match. Very unfortunate. Let's stop with some of the unnecessarily hard spots/bumps.

Update: he'll be undergoing an MRI, and will miss at least 6-8 weeks. No Mania sadly. That's a damned shame given the work he's put in these past 2 years. Hopefully he can make up for it at future Manias.

Quite a few workers in WWE shared the opinion of John Cena's worked-shoot promo. I can really see their argument, as I've seen a good deal of agreement from fans. The target audience for his return as I see it is the older and casual audiences, which generally aren't the ones talking at length about this kind of thing and its effect on business. Also in that link are details on Raw being moved around because of a segment going long, and some backstage visitors. I think Saturn would be a great "case study" for saving your money and staying away from drugs in addition to his talents as a worker.

PWInsider.com has some new questions for Tuesday, and of course we start off negative. Ask exaggerated questions and give bad responses, and I'll continue to look down on it.
1. The wrist injury has added fuel to the feud. DiBiase's starting to pick up steam with the crowd, and Hunico's pulling out some impressive offense, so internet fan belief here isn't fact. I do think it's about time to add something new (Camacho competing and/or segments involving the Posse parties) to the mix, though.

2. I echo their sentiments. Remember that they're "not a wrestling company" concerned with pushing the top in-ring competitors. I think we could be seeing him around for a while.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with changing the wrestling business.

Smackdown thoughts- 2/21/12

It's less than 6 weeks from the biggest show of 2012, and WWE's kicking things off strong this week. Tonight, on a special live Smackdown, the WWE Champion and World Heavyweight Champion collide. Who will win when C.M. Punk takes on Daniel Bryan? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

FCW cameos in Cena video, post-Chamber Punk/Jericho vids, Batista talks PG WWE, Questions on Mania politics, Rock not wrestling, Divas' salaries, Cena/Ryder/Eve, and R-Truth imitating Guerrero, Mania celebrity match spoiler, what happened after Elimination Chamber, injury at PPV, Kofi and Trish interviews, pre- and post-Raw dark matches, and an update on Barrett

The training video shown on John Cena at the Elimination Chamber featured cameos from quite a few FCW competitors. If you like reading into things, that one's for you. Or, you know, it could mean nothing that those specific talents were interviewed/featured. That was a pretty good piece for getting over Cena's commitment to the business.

C.M. Punk and Chris Jericho were interviewed after the Elimination Chamber match.

Update: Sheamus was also interviewed then.

Batista talked about a number of wrestling topics while promoting his new movie. Batista being a trainer for Tough Enough over Austin wouldn't make sense in my book. Austin has a lot more experience and worked in more varied environments. He was a bigger star for longer. I like Batista, but I don't think he's at THAT level. I don't know how I'd feel about him coming back to face HHH or Taker, given neither of those guys are full-timers at this point. If I'm him, I'm holding out for a Rock-like return. He went out big, and there should be a big reason for him to come back.

Here's my take on PWInsider.com's questions from Monday:
1. I actually didn't really think to look at it from that perspective. I suppose that could have factored in with some states' decisions to pursue or not pursue WrestleMania, but I definitely don't think WWE would avoid a Democratic governor's bid if they felt they could make the most money out of it.

After the break, I go into the rest of Monday's news and questions. Up next, is The Rock not competing at WrestleMania?

Raw thoughts- 2/20/12

Last night at the Elimination Chamber, C.M. Punk made it out of the extreme chaos of the sadistic steel with his WWE Title intact. However, one other man was neither pinned or made to submit in that match: Chris Jericho. What implications will this have for the Championship picture going forward? Also last night, John Cena finally put away Kane in a match so violent, it was only over when the Big Red Machine was taken away in an ambulance. As John Cena looks ahead to The Rock, The Undertaker keeps his gaze on Triple H. WrestleMania's on the horizon! Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Questions on Booker in the WWE Hall, Tamina, Taker's hair, and the Rumble, former FCW Champion arrested, Orton update, Chamber dark match, and Smackdown's Mania main event made official

Sunday's news starts with the PWInsider.com questions of the day. Here's my take:
1. I definitely see him as deserving given his very impressive list of accolades. I'm not familiar enough with Harlem Heat to say much on the tag team end, but I'd say barring some big fall-out he'll end up in there soon enough.

2. I imagine they waited until she turned face to make that official so she wouldn't get cheers for the last name. It makes a lot more sense to play it up now that she's emulating her father. As for McGillicutty, when/if he starts emulating his dad's moves, I think (hope) they'd change his name to reflect his lineage. How ridiculous of a name is Michael McGillicutty anyway? No offense to anyone who has that name in real life!

Nothing to add to 3, other than that it's related to 4. I don't get the "hair cutting" part either (hopefully they explain more in the weeks to come- maybe he'll end up with a different look overall?), but keeping the two of them mostly apart until the PPV is SMART. If they interact too much between now and then, the match will be somewhat watered-down (since we would have already seen them collide to some degree). It looks like they're selling the future match on the fact that we don't know how they'll match up. If anything, they need to do more in that direction so angles don't burn out so quickly.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with a Royal Rumble complaint.

WWE Elimination Chamber thoughts

Tonight's WWE's last PPV before WrestleMania, so we're getting closer to the biggest show of the year. Who will survive tonight's title matches and make it to the grandest stage of them all? C.M. Punk defends his WWE Championship against Chris Jericho, Kofi Kingston, Dolph Ziggler, R-Truth, and The Miz, while Daniel Bryan must fend off Big Show, Wade Barrett, Cody Rhodes, The Great Khali, and Santino Marella. One of these 12 men awaits Sheamus in Miami. Also tonight, John Cena confronts Kane in a match that can only end when one man is carted off in an ambulance. All that and more on tap. Read on for my thoughts on the show as t happens.

WWE Elimination Chamber preview

Tonight WWE throws 12 people in the Elimination Chamber with its 2 top titles on the line. Also, two people will beat each other senseless until someone's put in an ambulance. There's also a Divas' Title match. Read on for how I'd book the show.

Phoenix interview, more on the former Chris Hero, previews of Rock DVD, Questions on Cornette/Heyman in TNA, moving the Chamber PPV, shortened matches on DVDs, Rock/Taker at Mania only, and a female MMA star coming to WWE, Raw GM to have announcement at Chamber PPV, Kofi and Hogan interviews, more from the WM29 press conference, and air dates for the Hall of Fame and next 3-hour Raw

Beth Phoenix was interviewed in Miami, putting over the "Pin-Up Strong" movement. She makes a good ambassador for the Divas, and has worked hard to make it where she is today. She's got the right idea about screen time. I'm looking forward to what she and Tamina will be able to do with their opportunity at the PPV. As for Mania, I'd go with Natalya. Save Kharma for later when you can properly build it up.

The former Chris Hero's FCW name (Kassius Ohno) is designed to play off of the initials KO, as he had the nickname of "That Young Knockout Kid" in his previous persona. Pretty clever. I hope that's a sign that they have something in mind for him. It seems like they've got a pretty good pool of talent to draw from for the future of the company.

WWE has posted two previews of the upcoming DVD centered on The Rock. Talk about someone who could work a crowd into his promos and matches. THAT'S WHAT WRESTLERS ARE SUPPOSED TO DO. Rock and Jericho had a magic that was off the chart. For the second clip, he accomplished a lot more in less than a minute than some performers can do in months. Insanely charismatic.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news, starting with PWInsider.com's questions for Saturday. First up, does Vince Russo's departure open the door for Cornette or Heyman to come there?

Saturday, February 18, 2012

Edge interview, more from TNA NFL angle, Impact Wrestling post-show, Stone Cold blog, more WM29 press, Questions on WWE changing indie stars' names, Joey Styles at EVOLVE, and Chyna's new venture, Sheamus interview, Z! TLIS #53, HHH interview, and the Impact Wrestling rating

Edge was interviewed on retirement and more.

Here's the set up for next week's TNA angle with the NFL's Brandon Jacobs.

And here's the Impact Wrestling post-show.

Steve Austin blogged about some of his early days in the wrestling business, including why getting cursed out by a booker was the best advice he had ever gotten. Hopefully performers today take advantage of their opportunities to watch those more successful than them (past and present) and learn how to get the feel for what a crowd will and won't respond to. It's by no means easy, but it can be invaluable.

NJ.com and TimesUnion.com have stories on WrestleMania 29 coming to the area. They're taking a risk with it being roofless. Could get pretty nippy there.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news, starting with PWInsider.com's questions. First up, why does WWE change the names of established indie performers when they get signed?

Smackdown thoughts- 2/17/12

We're just two nights from the Elimination Chamber, where Daniel Bryan will defend the World Heavywright Championship in the titular match against Big Show, Great Khali, Wade Barrett, Cody Rhodes, and.... an opponent to be determined. Who will replace the concussed Randy Orton in the Devil's Playground? Find out tonight. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Friday, February 17, 2012

Angle interviews, Questions on WM30 in NYC, HBK/HHH, Super Bowl-WWE connections, greatest never to have held the WWE title, TNA update post-Russo, more on TNA side projects, multiple WM29 notes, Hall of Famer visits FCW, Bourne and Tajiri updates, Chris Hero debuts in FCW, Tara and Bully Ray interviews, Robbie E writes for Spike, possible upcoming WWE signing?, WM30 update, FCW roster changes, and NASCAR fans upset at Cena

Kurt Angle was interviewed on BBC. It'd be hard to disagree about HBK at Mania being his best match. Two veterans who knew/know how to tell an amazing story in the ring.

Update: Here's a second interview from there. At least he's acknowledging that a lot of people are skeptical about his Olympics quest. I particularly liked the opening to the piece. I wish someone would ask about Dana White basically calling BS on his MMA claims.

PWInsider.com has some new questions for Thursday. Here's my take:
1. It would seem pretty odd for them to run so close together for 2 Manias in a row, especially given the emphasis on NY in the WM29 build. No guarantees that it excludes the possibility, though.

2. Ditto. He wasn't as involved as he will be this time. I'm personally glad that they're doing something different from "someone tries to beat Undertaker even though everyone else has failed".

3. I'd often wondered this myself! Sometimes the players involved are big wrestling fans and jump at the opportunity, so it's a win for both sides even without pay. Ditto for some celebrity appearances in general promoting upcoming projects.

4. Tough to argue any of those choices, though I consider DiBiase to have held the title until he was stripped of it. Obviously, it wasn't a very long reign, and it didn't come through him winning a match, but to me he technically held the title.

Nothing to add to 5, though that's definitely one of the more unique questions I've seen asked.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news, starting with updates on TNA's backstage environment.

Superstars and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 2/16/12

Today on WWE Superstars, the WWE Tag Team Champions are in action. Epico and Primo go up against Alex Riley and Santino Marella. The crazy tag team division continues! Impact Wrestling will feature the follow-up from Against All Odds, where Bobby Roode escaped with the World Title once more after a mistake by Sting, and a #1 contender to the Knockouts Championship will be determined. Read on for my thoughts on the shows as they happen.

Thursday, February 16, 2012

Former World Champion re-added to TNA roster, TNA Creative updates, Questions on Sting-WWE, wrestlers having creative input, the 2012 Rumble, and Kofi, Daniel Puder interview, what "Snicklefritz" is, another backstage TNA departure, TNA/Spike update, JR scouting, Bourne removed from Raw intro, Waltman to open wrestling school, Taz update, WM29 date/location made official, why NWA Champion believes he's not in WWE, and Sorensen released from the hospital

Jeff Jarrett has been added back to the TNA roster after his on-screen firing in 2011. I'm not sure what, if anything, this is foreshadowing. He was taken off of TV in anticipation of the Ring Ka King tapings in India, which concluded late last month. Notably, Karen Jarrett wasn't added back. I've been really entertained by Jarrett's latest egotistical heel run, so I'm ok with him coming back provided that the focus of the company long-term is still the younger stars.

TNA sources indicate that Vince Russo was released from his position as writer. Dave Lagana offered creative input and feedback at the most recent TV tapings, and is expected to "take Russo's place" of writing the shows' scripts along with Matt Conway. Bruce Prichard remains head of Creative.

On to Wednesday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I wouldn't rule out one big match, but at the same time I wouldn't say that it's likely. According to him, he's gotten pretty close to going there.

2. Pretty much what they said, though I think that if someone's kind of "slipping under the radar" like DiBiase and Ryder were they might get leeway to do more of what they want since the higher-ups on Creative aren't focused on what they're doing. Whoever puts together NXT and Superstars cares more about the lower-card talent than the people who do Raw, Smackdown, and PPVs. Then again, they can justify that because a lot of people don't watch those shows. It can also be said that there are "tiers" of talent. Kane might have trouble with Cena, but Zack Ryder's not as formidable of an opponent. It's something like a more complicated version of rock-paper-scissors.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with criticisms of Zack Ryder's character direction.

NXT thoughts- 2/15/12

Last week, things continued to get heated on NXT. A frustrated Curt Hawkins punched out the host of NXT, Matt Striker. What repercussions will be coming his way? Titus O'Neil continues to plot against his former partner Percy Watson, and the crazy love rectangle with Curtis, Bateman, Maxine, and Kaitlyn is getting even crazier. How will things change this week? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Another live Smackdown, more press for TNA/NFL crossover, stars backstage at Raw, Questions on WM30 in Yankee Stadium, the Board keeping John Laurinaitis, Sheamus vs. Barrett, Miz, and Taker, update on TNA Creative plans, Foley and Rock interviews, '80s WWF announcer talks, WWE interviews Valentine, Sorensen updates, Russo leaves TNA, Raw rating, next batch of WWE appearances in FCW, and Orton nixed from Chamber due to concussion

Since a query sent in today ties closely into one of PWInsider.com's questions, I'll address them together below.

The 4/10 Smackdown taping will be shown live on SyFy. Maybe people will take more of a liking to the show and the people writing Raw will emulate them.

For some more press on TNA featuring a member of the New York Giants, check out the New York Post. His appearance was said to have been received very well by the fans and workers. The angle was talked about on SportsCenter.

Alberto Del Rio and Rey Mysterio will both backstage at Raw (in Rey's hometown of Raw), but weren't used on the show. I can mostly see that since it was the go-home show for a PPV that they're not on.

PWInsider.com had some new questions up to look at:
1. In addition to their valid criticisms, I think that with WM29 likely being in NJ, I think they should spread things out and do WM30 somewhere else.

2. Apparently it's because he was able to get Shawn Michaels to appear on Raw or something. They were kind of vague about the whole deal. In their minds, they could very well consider it explained.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's questions and news. Next up, will we get Sheamus vs. Barrett for the World Title at WrestleMania?

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

Queries on Hassan and WWE buying TNA, Victory Road video preview, battle royal set for Impact, Daniels interview, Questions on an ECW HoF inductee, standing of companies, Lesnar at WM28, and Garett Bischoff, TNA Creative and Kevin Nash updates, NFL player replaced in TNA angle, Sorensen updates, why Taz missed Against All Odds, Miz promotes Raw, another Taker and HBK appearance announced, Impact Wrestling preview, and Smackdown's rating.

Some Monday queries:
1. The Muhammad Hassan issue in a nutshell was that WWE was doing a feud where his character, a heel Arab American tired of all the negative treatment he received post-9/11, was facing The Undertaker. In a VERY controversial angle, he summoned some people in ski masks who basically kidnapped Taker. The whole thing gave off more than a few "terrorist" vibes, and to make things worse, the day that it aired (three days after it was taped), there were some terrorist bombings in London. Without time for WWE to re-shoot anything, UPN ran the angle after showing a number of warnings throughout the show. Both sides got a LOT of heat for it due to the timing, and Hassan never appeared on UPN again. His character was soundly defeated by Taker at the next PPV and was removed from storylines completely.

2. The chances of WWE buying TNA are low, at least for any time soon. Basically, don't expect it. If TNA starts losing insane amounts of money (which isn't currently the case), MAYBE they decide to sell, but other than that I don't really see it happening. They've only bought companies that have shut down in the past, and TNA's still in the black.

TNA posted a preview video for its next PPV, Victory Road. That really seems to suggest an increase in Sting's importance. If him working increases buys and is used to elevate talents and the company as a whole, I can live with it. If it's just for "reliving the past", it's detrimental to the company long-term. No disrespect to Sting or his accomplishments, but it doesn't look good for the 30-something wrestlers if they can't compete above the level of a 52-year-old who's semi-retired.

Thursday's edition of Impact Wrestling will feature a 10-Knockouts battle royal, where the winner will become #1 Contender to Gail Kim. The contestants are Rosita, Sarita, Ms. Tessmacher, Winter, Tara, ODB, Mickie James, Velvet Sky, Madison Rayne, and Angelina Love.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news, including PWInsider.com's questions. Next up, detailson what happened after Against All Odds.

Raw thoughts- 2/13/12

As we continue towards WrestleMania XXVIII, Mr. WrestleMania himself comes to Raw tonight. What will he have to say to his best friend Triple H after the chilling challenge from The Undertaker? Also, WWE continues to build towards the Elimination Chamber, which is only 6 nights away. How will C.M. Punk react to Chris Jericho being the final entrant in that match? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Query on the Hardys-WWE, Lawler bringing back talk show, Smackdown house show notes including an FCW talent competing, TNA stars promote PPV, Questions on performers with "attitude", Whipwreck, blood, and losing viewers, NFL cameo in TNA nixed, Punk added to live Smackdown, Creative shake-up in TNA?, and injury updates on Jesse Sorensen

Sunday's news begins with a query:
1. It's tough to say what would happen if the Hardys returned to WWE. It should go without saying that what takes place outside the ring would have a pretty big impact on how well or poorly they fared. Matt's pretty banged up, so it doesn't look like he'd be able to do something close to a full-time schedule. He wasn't happy near the end of his run there, so I honestly don't think it would work out for long unless something really changed. I don't know if Jeff's condition would work with a full-time WWE schedule, either. He MIGHT be able to make one last good run there, but I wouldn't say it's a sure thing. Either way, I don't really expect either of them back there any time soon.

Jerry Lawler will resume his role as talk show host in Memphis, interviewing wrestlers of the past and present (including WWE performers) as well as celebrities. Sounds intriguing.

Camacho wrestled a tag team match on Smackdown's 2/11 live event. To the best of my knowledge, that's the first time he's competed as a member of the main roster.

Also on that show, FCW talent Big E Langston defeated Heath Slater after being called as backup by Hornswoggle. As you can probably imagine, he's a sizable guy.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news, including PWInsider.com's questions.

TNA Against All Odds thoughts

Tonight TNA puts forth their second PPV of 2012. Bobby Roode will defend his World Championship against Jeff Hardy, James Storm, and Bully Ray. Sting will be the special enforcer to prevent a cheap escape by the champion. Also, 3 other title matches line the card and some grudge matches bring clashes together. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

TNA Against All Odds preview

Tonight, TNA puts on its latest 8-match card, with 4 title matches. With a number of top stars in action, this could be a big night if TNA plays things right. Read on for how I'd book the show.

Del Rio takes shots at Miz, Questions on Shane McMahon, Brian Kendrick, Impact positioning, and Laurinaitis wrestling, WM29 announcement upcoming?, Raw house show note, NFL player to be on Impact, and a Stephanie (McMahon) Levesque interview

Alberto Del Rio gave an interview ahead of his return to the ring for WWE. Pretty fun stuff, even the shots at Miz. I just hope we're not going to be hearing any stories of backstage fights stemming from this. Both men should have bright futures in the company if they don't throw it away by doing something like that.

PWInsider.com had some new questions for Saturday:
1. While I get queries about him returning pretty often, other than that he barely gets mentioned outside of popping up at the golf event some months back or when someone mentions him in an interview like HHH did. Even if he did work with his mother's campaign (which I haven't seen anything about), that's being run independent of WWE.

Nothing to add to 2, so after the break I jump to a question on where Brian Kendrick is, followed by the rest of the day's news and questions.

Saturday, February 11, 2012

Joe and Foley interviews, Tajiri returning to WWE?, Sting's UK experiences chronicled, Questions on the Kliq, Rhino, Matt Hardy returning, and traveling luchadores, JBL interview, Z! TLIS #52, Raw and Smackdown pictures, face turn for Raw performer?, Impact Wrestling rating, and Tough Enough's Jeremiah talks wrestling/MMA

Samoa Joe had a nearly hour-long interview ahead of Against All Odds. I agree that TNA needs to move out of the Impact Zone more if they want to grow. Eventually the audience will get burned out since they've seen just about everything some of the talents can do and the only things that get them to react are the big high-flying and hardcore spots. That's dangerous, as you can only take those things so far before you're doing a lot more in the way of showing what you can do and how much pain you can take instead of telling a story between characters in the more traditional sense.

Mick Foley also had an interview. He has the right idea about the feeling at the end of the match being more important that the cheers within the match itself. That's important for making wrestling something beyond a brief distraction that people enjoy while it's on instead of a story they can't wait to see the next installment of. Not that people should wrestle intentionally bad matches or anything, but there's a difference between a "fireworks reaction" of being impressed by high-flying offense and a long, sustained pop from fans being taken on a journey. There's a reason Booker T. got such a great reaction after his Smackdown match with Cody Rhodes last month. I also agree about things like chair shots being somewhat cheap. Good read.

SMASH, a promotion in Japan run by former WWE/(original) ECW star Tajiri will be shutting down after its scheduled March events. WWE is said to be looking for some of their past Cruiserweight talents to work for their planned WWE Network series. I always really enjoyed him as a competitor, with some very lethal kicks and (of course) the mist. I'd love to see him back if he's "still got it". He could work very well as a veteran on that show.

Update: Apparently the promotion has had financial troubles for a while now. It might just be a hiatus until they can build up funds to start again. Tajiri could very well just split off and form a new promotion. Ah well, it was fun to hold hope for a while.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and PWInsider.com's questions. Next up is a video of Sting's experiences in the UK working with TNA.

Smackdown thoughts- 2/10/12

The most pompous vegan on the planet is still World Heavyweight Champion, and he's not letting anyone forget about it. Tonight, however, he's going up against someone who's been to the top of the mountain in WWE 9 times. The Viper vs. The American Dragon, tonight!

Another DDP interview, more Taker/HBK appearances, Piper interview, Canadian Raw ratings, Questions on Miz's heat, Shamrock, and Bryan, angle at WWE press conference, Rock interviews, Matt Hardy updates, Koloff autobiography out, Hogan and Samoa Joe interviews, and an FCW performer gets an official name

Diamond Dallas Page was interviewed again. Nice read. I hope that YRG works out for more people who can still add to the business.

Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker are advertised for the 3/12 Raw taping, so expect more of them as we head towards WrestleMania.

"Rowdy" Roddy Piper was interviewed as we head closer to WrestleMania. Hot Rod's high octane all the time. I'd love to see a Cena/Rock Piper's Pit. Or Ziggler/Foley for that matter. Or maybe Cody Rhodes?

An article about the Super Bowl's rating in Canada mentioned viewership numbers for a recent Raw. Without more data, it's tough to judge how good or bad that is. I'm glad Nielsen does things in percentages.

For my take on PWInsider.com's questions:
There's nothing to add to 1, so after the break, I'll move to a question about the heat Miz currently has in WWE. Then, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions.

Superstars and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 2/9/12

Today on WWE Superstars, the United States Champion faces the former Intercontinental Champion. Can Jack Swagger avoid the Cobra or is the All-American American in for an Italian beatdown? Following that will be the final episode of Impact Wrestling before Against All Odds, and we've got a Star Wars theme in London. Who will make their marks going into Sunday's big showdowns (which include a four-way World Title match with Bobby Roode, James Storm, Jeff Hardy, and Bully Ray)? Read on for my thoughts on the shows as they happen.

Rock interview, Questions on Christian turning face, Mark Henry, Brodus Clay, cameras, and the Rumble, Jake The Snake interview, plans for the week after WM28, Divas not allowed at UAE event, new member of WWE Creative, a look at Abdullah/Brody, current HoF plans, and Del Rio returning

The Rock talked wrestling and more in conjunction with his new movie. Very hard-working, one of a kind guy!

For my take on PWInsider.com's questions from Monday:
1. I definitely think he CAN do that role, but I don't know if he should. They've also got The Great Khali as a face so I don't think things are too heel-centric.

2. Mainly what they said. They also probably wanted to get the most out of him that they could while he was physically able since he was such a big deal to the company for a while. I also hope he gets a nice spot at WrestleMania. The card could end up pretty crowded with all the cameos and part-timers. It'll be interesting to see how they fit everyone in (or don't).

3. Looks like we're at the same impasse about pessimism and jumping to conclusions. A lot of people are fine with his character and entertained. He's got a fairly steady TV spot and something going for him beyond "big monster who squashes people". I'll be very surprised if he goes to the WWE/World Title in the gimmick, but it's pretty rare that someone makes it that high early in their on-screen career anyway. Right now getting over should be what we're looking at, and he's doing that.

After the break, I go into everything else from Wednesday, starting with another question on cameras.

NXT thoughts- 2/8/12

Today on WWE NXT, the competition (?) marches onward. Derrick Bateman, Darren Young, and Titus O'Neil join the rest of the young and hungry locker room in seeking to make their mark in the company. Two teams looking to do just that will be in the main event, as Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks take on the Usos. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Chris Hero signs with WWE, R-Truth update, what happened after Raw, Questions on Benoit winning the Rumble, Rumble competitors, Riley, and sending a message to WWE, Laurinaitis update, possible note on Air Boom, Miz and Gowen interviews, WM29 location update, the Raw rating, and the pre-Smackdown dark match featuring an FCW wrestler

WWE has finally signed Chris Hero following passed medical tests. There are no plans for him to be used as a partner to his former ROH teammate, who is known in FCW as Antonio Cesaro. I'm looking forward to what the future holds for both men in the company, even if it's not working together. I don't think they "need" t team them just because they were a team beforehand, as their characters are notably different.

R-Truth is very sore but otherwise ok following a dive gone awry on Raw. The Miz was being blamed for that not going as planned, with quite a bit of heat going his way from WWE management. That's a dangerous spot in general, though there was clearly some kind of miscue that exacerbated the problem. I hope everyone survives this from a physical and political perspective. We don't need another Mr. Kennedy situation.

Update: He won't miss any ring time. HHH loudly disciplined Miz for the spot not going off without a hitch. He's taken all of the blame.

The post-Raw dark match saw John Cena defeat Kane by DQ. Nothing especially surprising.

As for my take on Tuesday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I could be misinterpreting things here, but with the angle they worked about Heyman giving him the #1 spot in the Rumble to "screw him", it wasn't that big of a shock that he won since there was a story involved. But I can see it being a surprise he got to be in that position in the first place.

Nothing to add to 2, so let's go to 3 after the break. What's the status of the surprise Royal Rumble competitiors?

Tuesday, February 7, 2012

HBK advertised for Raw, house show note, possible plans for McIntyre, why Smackdown's on Tuesday, Questions on Natalya, Mascaras, "doing right by the fans" and Undertaker, more on WWE's Cruiserweight show, Miz and Hogan interviews, Hardy video, Maryse interview, Smackdown rating, more on upcoming Hall of Famers, Graham hospitalized, and Eve injured

Shawn Michaels is being advertised for the 2/13 Raw, one week before the Elimination Chamber. Rumored plans are for him to be the special referee for HHH vs. Taker at WrestleMania.

It has been confirmed that the FCW talent working last weekend's house shows was Kenneth Cameron.

The next story involves possible spoilers for the Drew McIntyre storyline: There's talk of using his losing streak to relaunch his character as more of an arrogant playboy. Whatever lets him show what he can do as a talent in a fresh role that isn't terrible works for me.

SyFy is putting Smackdown live on 2/21 for the "sweeps" period in February. That worked out in WWE's favor, as they can really start things with a bang after Elimination Chamber.

This weekend will be WWE's first having live events in the United Arab Emirates. Pretty cool.

As for my look at PWInsider.com's questions:
1 and 2 are related, and I don't have anymore insight than they do. Sometimes, sadly, they apparently do things to amuse themselves or "not be predictable" instead of to make a good product.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's questions and news. Next up, WWE's "disrespect" to Mil Mascaras.

Raw thoughts - 2/6/12

Last week on Raw, the road to WrestleMania took a turn through the Dark Side. The Undertaker returned to disrupt the firing of John Laurinaitis by WWE's COO, Triple H. Is there unfinished business between the two long-time rivals (and last year's WrestleMania opponents)? Also, the Voice of the Voiceless ran afoul of the man who proclaimed the end of the world as we know it when Chris Jericho made a statement at C.M. Punk's expense. How will the WWE Champion respond? More on these questions and more as we continue our path to the Elimination Chamber. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Live Smackdown after Elimination Chamber, Questions on no Hulkamania, changing WrestleMania X, chair shots, a Patterson DVD, and covering events live, live event notes, and Miz and Sting interviews

SyFy is advertising a live edition of Smackdown on 2/21, which will be the first episode after the Elimination Chamber PPV. Smart move to kick start the road to WrestleMania.

PWInsider.com had some Sunday questions. Here are my takes on them:
1's a very good question, but I don't think I'm qualified enough on that era of the WWF to answer. I'm under the impression that Hulkamania was partially Hogan's idea, so wrestling would be VASTLY different if he went with someone else.

2. I've heard that urban legend. Interesting to hear the real story behind it.

3. Those are the main ones that come to mind. I'm surprised Tanaka and Mahoney can remember their names after some of their matches. They turned killing brain cells into an art form. I seem to remember Jeff Hardy getting brained pretty good when Matt cost him the match with Edge at the Rumble a few years back, too.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with why we haven't seen a Pat Patterson DVD.

Sunday, February 5, 2012

Queries on worst HHH matches, Shane buying TNA, and Khali, Kofi appearance, Kristofferson profiled, Questions on West Coast wrestlers, Taker's wig, DGUSA, and 3D, Mero inspires, ex-Creative member talks Mickie/Trish, ESPN looks at DiBiase Posse, and more from Cena and Rock

A few queries to start Saturday off:
1. I haven't seen a good number of HHH matches before 2000 or so, so I can't give a full account of what his absolute career-long worst matches were. However, some candidates from what I've seen involve Vladimir Kozlov, Snitsky, and Scott Steiner as opponents. Terrible in a different way was the match with Chavo Guerrero in which he taunted his late uncle's signature mannerisms just a few months after his passing. Yeah, that was a pretty messed up time in company history.

2. I'd put the odds of Shane McMahon buying TNA at slim to none. All signs point to him being out of the wrestling business for the foreseeable future. I'd be surprised if he pops back up and does that kind of thing since he moved into a pretty different area of business in China.

3. It certainly looks like The Great Khali will be in the mix for WrestleMania 28. No specifics have been mentioned so far that I'm aware of, but I don't think he'll be in the WWE or World Title picture.

Kofi Kingston appeared at a National guard event ahead of a Raw live event.

New FCW signing Jody Kristofferson was profiled by TMZ. I hope they're right about his potential.

After the break, I go into the rest of Saturday's news, starting with PWInsider.com's questions. First, why doesn't WWE sign more West Coast talents?

Saturday, February 4, 2012

Ryder interview, Matt Hardy court updates, Questions on Taker's hair, Flair, a women's DVD,and Toxxin, match cut from Smackdown, Swagger interview, TNA hype videos, Cena and Rock trade jabs, Z! TLIS #51, Roode and Layla interviews, likely FCW releases, and the Impact Wrestling rating

Zack Ryder was interviewed about the Ryder Revolution. Hopefully he'll continue to be rewarded by the fans and the company for his hard work in getting his character over. And hopefully more young performers will be able to break out of the mold in the year(s) to come in a similar way. Time to make wrestling fun again, and move it past 1998.

Matt Hardy's court cases have been continued to a 3/1 date. I really, really hope he's going to be able to put this kind of thing behind him in 2012 (and beyond).

As for my look at Friday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. That would explain why something seemed off about his hair. Maybe those pictures of him with very short hair were legitimate after all! Weird.

Nothing to add to 2, other than it's no surprise that Henry didn't make it in given his injuries. He's a very tough man to make it as long as he has.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with Ric Flair appearing at the WWE Hall of Fame.

Smackdown thoughts- 2/3/12

This past Sunday, the Royal Rumble PPV shook up the foundations of Smackdown. Not only did Daniel Bryan successfully evade his two massive World Title contenders, but Sheamus won the Royal Rumble. And the shake-ups continue tonight. Randy Orton and Wade Barrett will continue their big rivalry in the ring! All that and probably some other crazy things coming up. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Query on Devon's sons, Smackdown taping dark match, Slaughter visits USO, Questions on Ron Simmons, Steiner, Murphy, Y2J/Taker, Foley, and a dance-off, new wrestling-based show in the works for the Network, JoMo and Sting interviews, and a new WWE signing

First up Thursday is a query:
1. I haven't seen anything about Devon's sons being used any more in TNA, which is generally an indication that they don't have plans for them. I was curious as to where they were going with that angle (namely whether they'd wrestle), but it doesn't look like we'll be seeing anything else with them.

The pre-show dark match at the Smackdown taping saw The Usos defeat Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks. That wouldn't have been out of place on NXT or Superstars. They could very well have been worried about running long again.

Sgt. Slaughter visited the USO.

As for my take on PWInsider.com's questions of the day:
1. He should definitely go in at some point down the line, along with JBL. Their success as singles' and tag team competitors is worthy of commemoration. I definitely see it happening, since as far as I know he's still on good terms with the company.

2. I haven't seen anything on Murphy in a LONG time, including anything about him being used in OVW. Either way, he hasn't been on TNA's roster in quite a while, leading to speculation that he'd been kicked to the curb. If there's anything on him in regards to the company, I'll be sure to post it.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and questions, starting with an alternate storyline with Chris Jericho.

Superstars and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 2/2/12

Today on WWE Superstars we get a battle of former PPV main eventers. Former World Heavyweight and current United States Champion Jack Swagger tests his mettle against Little Jimmy's favorite superstar, R-Truth! Then, we head "across the pond" for Impact Wrestling, where Hulk Hogan will return. What will be the fallout from last week between James Storm, Bully Ray, Jeff Hardy, and TNA World Champion Bobby Roode? Read on for my thoughts on the shows as they happen.

Thursday, February 2, 2012

Query on WWE trademarks, Florida Panthers talk Mania, why Duggan Rumbled, WWE relaunches YouTube page, footage of TNA in London, more on new WWE hire, JoMo/Billy Gunn interview, Chyna rant, an update on Divas' angles, charity raffle for Mania, and Sheamus talks

Wednesday, things started off with a query:1. I believe WWE can indeed trademark phrases for certain contexts (i.e. merchandising purposes). It would make sense, at least, to trademark things like "Boots to Asses" so others can't profit off of their intellectual property.

A number of players for the NHL's Florida team talked about wrestling and WrestleMania. Cool to see.

WWE used "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan at the Royal Rumble in part to get him visibility before his autobiography drops on 4/1.

As has been alluded to, WWE relaunched their YouTube channel with a number of new shows. I'm making the decision to not cover them, as I feel I'd have to start covering all their videos. Some of these things are barely (if that) wrestling-related, so I don't think I'm doing a great disservice here. If someone wants me to reconsider, please comment below.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news. Next up, a preview of TNA from London.

NXT thoughts - 2/1/12

Here we are at week 48 of NXT Season 5, where Derrick "Sweet Meat" Bateman, "No Days Off" Darren Young, and the "Real Deal" Titus O'Neil are still stuck on Redemption Island. As the three of them continue to seek to impress WWE Management, we get a callback to NXT Season 3. Today's main event features a Rookie-Pro pairing from that show, as the domineering and vindictive Maxine takes on the energetic and jovial Alicia Fox. Who will prevail? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Queries on Rob Naylor and WWE going TV-14, Ryder Q&A, Rock update, Daivari interview, Kharma's return, Impact Wrestling preview, Smackdown rating, Cena vs. Kane set for Elimination Chamber, Questions on the Rockers, house shows on the WWE Network, the Cena/Kane angle, and a rant on smarks, Helms, Layla, and Roode interviews, more on HHH/Taker, X-Pac/Jannetty interview, new important WWE Creative hire and the Raw rating

A few queries to start the day's news:
1. I haven't seen anything about FCW's Rob Naylor being moved up to NXT. As often as commentary teams change on that show (often without warning), though, I wouldn't rule it out. Just this season, we've had NINE different teams calling the action, including a number involving two commentators who've since left the company. If you want proof that WWE plans things in the short-term, look no further.

2. There hasn't been anything new on WWE changing from TV-PG, and there likely won't be in the near future. They're happy with the advertisers and business deals they've gotten with this direction that they wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

Zack Ryder talked wrestling and baseball. If he doesn't make Mania this year, the fans should riot. He's busted his ass in and outside of the ring to get over, and the crowd responded by supporting him and buying his merchandise. If Santino can make the card, he can.

Once The Rock finishes with his current film commitments, he'll be making a ton of WWE-related appearances to promote WrestleMania (including talk shows). See, here's a name from the past that can actually affect business in a huge positive way by getting a lot of older fans and attention for the show.

Daivari (formerly Sheik Abdul Bashir in TNA) was interviewed on WWE, TNA, Ring Ka King, and more. At least he's honest in his feelings! I always thought he played his roles particularly well.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news, and PWInsider.com's questions. Next up, how Kharma was able to return to the ring.
