GFW tried to sign WWE announcer, Lawler update, Slammiversary on the FN app, GFW suspends Alberto, more on Alberto-Paige incident, WWE names at Chicago comic convention, HHH invites top fighters to Raw, Interview with Foleys, ROH taping matches announced, more MYC names official, Anthem-Hardys updates, Helms fires back at GFW, Smackdown audience, Sami fundraiser, Alundra/Madusa's role at MYC, assorted WWE press, BFG 2017 date set, additional GFW PPV in 2018?, Cappotelli health update, and Questions on Kurt vs. Joe vs. Brock, splitting Enzo and Cass, the superkick sound, Lorcan busting Itami open, and explosion matches

GFW contacted Jerry Lawler about coming in as a commentator when he was pulled from full-time WWE duties, although by that point Lawler had already signed his current deal there. Lawler stated he believes the plan was to try to reunite Lawler and Jim Ross at the announce desk. While JR and King were a legendary duo, I think GFW needs to forge its own identity away from what worked two decades ago. I'd be open to King doing another duty in the company, though, given his tenure in the business.

- Lawler will be part of the Kickoff panel at Battleground. I'm glad they finally moved him from the commentary table. I'd rather hear David Otunga's somewhat bored delivery than endure Lawler's shtick any further.

Slammiversary is now available on the Fight Network app. I expect they're going to want to continue loading that up with wrestling content from GFW and other partners.

GFW has indefinitely suspended Alberto El Patron while he remains under investigation for the recent incident in an Orlando airport. They pretty much had to. It remains to be seen what will happen to the GFW Championship. I suspect Alberto will remain champion unless he's convicted of a crime. The company has the opportunity to do a title change next month at the live Destination X special.

- The witness who captured audio of the incident made further claims of what happened between Alberto and Paige in a Heavy.com interview, which includes social media posts from Paige's family making further allegations against the GFW Champion. This paints a very poor picture of both sides, clouding the careers of two former top WWE talents.

- GFW has no plans to edit upcoming episodes of Impact in response to the situation. I expect they're going to hope this blows over quickly and any possible changes will be saved for Destination X.

- Paige has released an updated version of her side of what happened between herself and Alberto. Orlando police continue to indicate Alberto is the only suspect in the case and the matter remains under investigation. This has really moved into concerning territory, even if no charges end up being filed for this particular incident.

Wizard World Chicago will feature Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens, the Hardys, and Alexa Bliss. I like WWE being spotlighted at those venues to help reach other audiences.

Triple H has publicly invited Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather to appear on Raw. That comes across as kind of desperate if they don't take him up on the offer. I hope it has a real chance of happening, for WWE's sake.

Mick and Noelle Foley talked at a convention in New York. I suspect we haven't seen the last of either of them on WWE TV.

Set for ROH's July 29 TV taping in North Carolina:
- Cody Rhodes, Marty Scurll, & Hangman Page vs. Bully Ray & The Briscoes
- KUSHIDA vs. Kenny King for the ROH TV Championship
- Young Bucks vs. Motor City Machine Guns for the ROH Tag Team Championship
- Flip Gordon vs. Punishment Martinez
-- I am looking forward to that first match. Cody vs. Bully would be a good PPV main event, although there's the obvious concern of two ex-WWE guys better known for their work elsewhere fighting for the ROH title.

Former GFW competitor Marti Belle, Mercedes Martinez, and the UK's Kay Lee Ray and Ayesha Raymond have been confirmed for the Mae Young Classic. All four are guests in the sense of not being signed to WWE deals.

Anthem and the Hardys have not come to terms on a deal regarding the "Broken" material, according to Jeff Jarrett during a GFW conference call originally intended to promote the company's expansion plans. The Alberto incident and Hardys situation have pretty much overshadowed any talk of GFW's return to live events.

- Reby Hardy (of course) fired back, saying the two sides did have terms of an agreement: Tweet 1 Tweet 2

- Further reporting suggests there was an agreement in principle between Anthem and the Hardys that would give the Hardys the rights to the gimmick, but Anthem has not officially signed off on the deal. Should Anthem not take action in executing the deal, the Hardys may sue for breach of contract in an effort to get ownership of the relevant gimmicks. It's worth noting WWE is not involved in this process. This could really drag out a while, unfortunately.

Shane Helms disputes being let go by GFW for financial reasons. Helms is very close to the Hardy clan, so this could be a further split between the two sides.

Smackdown drew 2.47 million viewers, rebounding from July 4. Cena's return wasn't as big of a boost as the MITB fallout.

Sami Zayn is part of a fundraiser for a mobile medical unit in Syria. Sami is of Syrian descent.

Alundra Blayze will have broadcast duties in the MYC. Good to see WWE treating it as something important.

WWE is now selling UK Championship replicas. Hopefully we get more details on the brand's future soon.

Stephanie McMahon was honored at the ESPN Sports Humanitarian Awards. That's very important for WWE and its image.

GFW Bound For Glory will be on PPV November 5. I hope they knock it out of the park like they did with Slammiversary. It was a solid card top-to-bottom.

GFW is looking to have an additional live PPV event in 2018, likely Lockdown. It's going to be tough to beat WWE's value for pay content, but I see why they want to have big events like that.

Matt Cappotelli's brain cancer has returned. That's really sad to hear. I hope he's able to knock it out for good this time.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. If they think it can make them a lot of money and Kurt can handle it, they'll put him back in the ring. Joe and Brock would definitely be top "dream" opponents.

2. Raw has the Hardys, Rhyno/Slater, Titus/Apollo, The Revival, The Miztourage, Sheamus/Cesaro as teams in the division right now. Enzo and Cass had gone as far as they could as a team without being pushed ahead of the Hardys, Revival, or Sheamus/Cesaro, none of whom I think they should have been pushed higher than. So I'm on board with splitting them instead of them just kind of hanging around the tag team division never getting the titles.

3. Oh yeah, it's generally a slap to the thigh from the person delivering the superkick.

4. Generally it's accepted accidents like that happen. Unless a worker's particularly careless, it's usually just chalked up to being part of the business.

5. Hardcore wrestling is insane sometimes.

More wrestling tomorrow.
