Superstars and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 4/12/12

Today on WWE Superstars, two former Divas' Champions square off as Kelly Kelly goes up against Brie Bella. Who will theoretically be closer to a title shot when the show's over? Then, on Impact Wrestling,  we're just 3 days away from Lockdown. Bobby Roode will defend the TNA Championship against former partner James Storm in a big grudge match in a cage then, but never mind that because Eric Young's getting married to ODB tonight. Talk about having your priorities in order... Read on for my thoughts on both shows as they happen.
That certainly looks like the main event's going to be a video package.

Is Kofi back to being a singles guy? I'm losing track.

It's pretty bad when you're one of the only tag teams in WWE and you're not on the list to challenge the champs.

I don't see any reason to bring up Hornswoggle, especially when it didn't do anything to make Hawkins as a heel.

Fine enough match so far. It just feels like filler like a number of matches do these days. It's be different if they were pushing this as something that could help either team's quest for the titles. That's if Kofi's still with R-Truth.

I think Reks' shirt's a reference to a video game or something, but I don't recognize it.

Hawkins seems to be getting better at the "wrestling" aspect of a match. But that's only one aspect of it.

Not a bad match. It just didn't seem to do much for anyone.

It's still weird seeing Edge with short hair.

I wonder how much they'll use the Bellas the next couple of weeks, knowing that they won't get a chance to after the end of the month.

That was kind of heelish to stomp on Brie's hand, but they wisely played it up as her not falling for a trap.

Beth? Unbeatable? She just lost to someone who hangs out with Mario Lopez. They can't expect our memory to be THAT bad.

Kelly can move. She can also do stupid "stinkfaces" that make me discount a lot of her wrestling ability.

These two did better than you'd expect from two ex-models.

I hope WWE's pulling in good money on YouTube and replays of WrestleMania to justify putting attention there instead of, say, a video package putting over a current performer or issue. The End of an Era video was pretty good, though.

Remember when Jinder Mahal was getting steady wins on TV? Why should the fans invest in characters that WWE treats as less than important?

Selling a PPV on big bumps is dangerous if you can't deliver a "Holy #@$%" moment.

Heck, both of these guys got good pushes before being put back in Purgatory.

I like the commentators putting over strategies and characteristics for performers. That's important to sell matches without much in the way of backstory.

Welp, so much for that one. Ok match that also didn't really do much of anything for anyone since Jinder's already beaten Zeke a number of times (and Zeke hasn't done much to make us think that this time would have been different).

On to Impact Wrestling.

Two of wrestling's favorite gimmicks put together as we have a wedding in a cage. I wonder how that will turn out from other wrestling weddings.

Funny seeing a Big Show shirt in the crowd.

Not exactly an all-star lineup, though I like Bully Ray.

Bischoff's only made one mistake? Bully is pretty delusional.

I like the idea of tonight's matches setting something up for Lockdown.

I guess I'm ok with that match and a DQ if it's setting something else up. Heels getting the advantage would make sense, though it happens pretty much every time.

This show needs a fast-forward button. I don't care about Young or MCMG.

Wow, did I not miss Shelley's promos.

But I liked Curry Man and Shark Boy...

A heel authority figure would separate these teams until Lockdown.

Or both of them could destroy this team. That works, too. They were really champs for half a year? Wow.

Aries getting a main event spot's good by me. I'd definitely rather see him than some of the others in that match.

Flippy stuff and dives. Ugh. Those should be used to add to a match, not take over the whole match.

Good ending.

Weird seeing Hardy without face paint and crazy clothes, though that's good for it being a "serious" promo.

Brief promo for such a big match.

I like the use of the band to add to the angle, but the end-all, be-all should be Storm getting his revenge instead of them.

I'm starting to buy into conspiracy theory that TNA's Creative team does have issues with marriage given the Sarita/Rosita stuff.

I'm going to have issues with marriage if this segment goes long and doesn't draw in ratings.

There are a few funny spots here, but this mostly something I'd rather not be subjected to.

If this doesn't pull a good rating, I hope TNA finally kills this garbage.

I would have totally bet RVD would be the last guy on Garett's team. Styles makes sense feud-wise, though.

That match ending made sense to continue things. It's easier to build sympathy for the person in the handicap situation, so the babyfaces should be "down".

Clever use of the commercial break. Was that a reference to Rosey and Jamal?

I guess they want some kind of moment where Garett beats Eric down or something to end this ridiculousness.

Quite glad that Hogan's not the 5th guy.

Maybe RVD's the reason Garett keeps his job on Sunday?

Damn solid video package ahead of Storm vs. Roode.

Putting a Knockouts match in-between the Lethal Lockdown builder and whatever hard-sell they're doing in the last segment makes sense. Not just because they generally do good ratings, but because the crowd has time to breathe between the two big segments.

Pretty impressive stuff here.

Like they haven't done interference in cage matches before.

Very good use of videos in this segment.

I really like seeing these two playing off of each other.

I hope they've got something big planned for Lockdown to continue this feud.

Storm was in America's Most Wanted, and Roode was in Team Canada, so they definitely didn't start off as friends. Beer Money was a contrast from the start.

Great stuff from both guys to end the show and set up Lockdown.

That's all for Thursday's wrestling. I'll be back for Lockdown on Sunday (since Smackdown aired on Tuesday). A news post will be up later. Thanks for reading!
