Raw thoughts- 2/27/12

The road to WrestleMania continues to heat up. Full-timers C.M. Punk, Daniel Bryan, Sheamus, and John Cena will be continuing their year-round battles to be at the top of the company, while Chris Jericho, Triple H, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, and The Rock pop back in to show that they've still got it. Who will strike the next blows in these epic rivalries? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Looking forward to tonight's show.

How. Only 34 days. Seems like only yesterday Rock was taking all the spotlight at WM27.

Kind of hard to take Jericho seriously with the flashy jacket.

Jericho's making some points here. No one handed him a developmental contract and pulled out the red carpet for him to make it to the main roster. He got over before WWE, and that's why he was signed.

There's some realistic criticism here, and I think that's why people are responding so well.

I like Jericho heeling the crowd for booing him and cheering Punk. His goal is to build heat for his story and he's doing it. He's truly one of the best in the world.

There are some pretty good parallels between Punk and Jericho.

I like the jabs at Jericho leaving the company. Being in front of the WWE audience on a weekly basis should be something that's pushed as good.

I like the dichotomy between these two. They play off of each other incredibly well and are passionate in their roles.

Ha. Jab at The Miz.

I think Punk can be one of THE guys in the industry.

Daniel Bryan, AJ, and David Otunga all in the same entourage. I can dig that.

Punk and Bryan. I can't stress enough how cool this is to see in WWE given how both were blackballed and/or written off.

PSST. There's a match in the ring.

WAY too many voices at ringside.

I guess you can say this match is getting attention since it's lasting a number of segments.

These guys are really putting their bodies on the line.

I like that Punk has added the Savage elbow to his repertoire full-time.

Great that the crowd's behind this and calling for the G2S.

You don't want to make the Cobra angry, Otunga.

Hahahaha. The champ escapes again.

Oh... maybe not.

At least Bryan can say it took Sheamus to finish things.

The crowd's REALLY into this.

Teddy vs. Ace is actually getting pretty over for two guys who probably can't wrestle worth a lick anymore.

LIONTAMER!!!!!! Haven't seen Jericho pull that one out in a while.

Good stuff to set up the next steps in the top programs going forward.

Great video package on HHH/Taker. I'd like to see something like this for some of the other rivalries.

There is some serious debate on who's better between Michaels and Hunter. What's more important, being the bigger star and draw or the guy who puts on the more balls-to-the-wall performances?

Miz's come a long way from headlining WrestleMania.

Former models wrestling, Twitter, and Lawler commentary. So much for the high this show was on.

Kaitlyn and Maxine are stuck on NXT while this is getting TV time on the company's top show. Looks take you a long way.

That Smackdown match could be pretty good or pretty clunky depending on who gets the most ring time.

Miz is great at getting heat, staying important even after a lot of losses.

No shock that the crowd's split in this one.

Welp. Thanks for coming, Miz. We're pretty much where we were before WM27.

Rock is freakin' BUILT.

Now that was pretty cool from Rock.

Kofi and Truth need a team name and combined entrance if they're going to be sticking together for a while. No word on Evan's future in a while, which could actually be a good thing because that means he's not fired yet.

Three good teams here. The tag division's not dead YET.

How much would some of you mark out for the Kings of Wrestling debuting here? I don't think WWE's going to put them together, but there's always a chance.

I can't remember a Double Boom Drop either.

Good, talented young performers in this one. The fans are getting into these guys.

I kind of expected new champs given the circumstances.

Kane's going to go for the tag titles?

Wait, what? Where'd his outer mask go?

So, is he a face again?

Nope. Just Chaotic Neutral as always I see. Not really sure what this accomplished other than putting Kane ahead of the tag team division. I hope they're doing something of worth with him.

Who starts these rumors? I guess that could have been a knock on the internet.

I wonder how Eve will be involved around Mania.

Ohhhh... maybe they're setting up Eve vs. Kharma down the line? That'd be pretty good character-wise.

This is certainly something different from Eve and Divas angles in general.

No, wait. We're going to get Eve vs. Kelly. Not as good.

What did we do to deserve this movie, WWE? I mean, yeah, we booed Cena. We didn't like Snitsky and Khali being pushed. But... this?

I'm interested with what they could be doing with the leadership of the two brands.

Big Show giving kids his beanie is pretty cool.

Rhodes being the last guy out's a bit surprising.

Rhodes going over Big Show for the Intercontinental Championship would be cool by me.

I hope this is leading to something that benefits Rhodes more than Big Show (who's already dominant).

Damn. That's how you set up Sheamus for the World Title.

WWE.com revenue was down from last year, so they're putting things there and plugging them. If the show's strong enough, people will check out the website regardless.

God, that was a good promo. Funny that they cut out the "wrestler" references.

Anyone want to get the Rock catchphrase counter ready?

Oh, we're going back to HHH/Taker/HBK next week. My bad. The schedule got pretty hectic.

Now THAT'S a reaction.

WOW. Say what you will about "Dwayne", but Rock is pretty over in front of the WWE Universe.

I like that the announcers are shutting up and letting this speak for itself.

The audience is hanging on his every word.

Rock makes some points. I think that's what's making this work so well.

I think Rock's just trying to get ridiculous-sounding things to be catch-phrases now.

Rock makes valid points about people not being fought for, and making their own way. That's how Cena caught on. That's how Miz got noticed. It's how Punk's getting over now.

If someone sold more merchandise and got bigger reactions than Cena, he wouldn't be "shoved down our throats" so much.

The chants and catch-phrases are just getting ridiculous now. Surely there's a bigger point to this.

This is funny in kind of an absurd way.

Rock's getting the crowd to do what he wants, so by that definition he's doing good stuff here.

This actually sounds like insults people would throw at each other.

The Rock catch-phrase counter blew up. It apparently only goes so high.

That went kind of long for my tastes. People love Rock, but did we really need ALL of that?

That's it for Raw. I'll be back for NXT on Wednesday, and a news post will be up later. Thanks for reading!
