Raw Reax - 5/2/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Raw.

A "new era" of WWE starting off with a Stephanie McMahon talking segment? Don't think so, Tim.

At least they got right to Shane interrupting instead of it coming after a long promo.

What does it say that Shane and Stephanie didn't have their plans for the show already in place AS THE SHOW WAS COMING ON THE AIR!?? Like, they didn't communicate about this during the day, or even a few hours ago?

I like Owens wanting to get the IC Title back ASAP. The championships should mean something!!

That was a good setup for the first match of the night. I hope Owens and Cesaro got a rub from being there with Shane and Stephanie.

- Cesaro vs. Owens:
These two always work together quite well.

Good action early.

Pretty good action overall before Miz's run-in.

Fun post-match, too. A four-way match should be pretty good.

Stephanie on the Ambrose Asylum could be interesting...

Fun ridiculous Golden Truth segment. Or... Gorgeous Truth and Goldango, I guess. I like a developed undercard feud.

AJ definitely got put over in defeat. He won via countout and DQ before match restarts.

I like Reigns being the smug dick, assured of his status as "the guy" in WWE.

I look forward to that main event!

- Goldust vs. Breeze:
I'm surprised the Golden Truth angle has continued this long.

This is really silly, but fun.

That was good for what it was. Not really sure what they're building toward, but it's better than meaningless undercard matches.

Pretty fun promo from New Day. I do hope Enzo's OK sooner rather than later.

DAMN. Pretty stiff beliefs from Aiden and Simon about Enzo continuing the match.

Fun Vaudevillains promo.

I was wondering where the Dudleys were. They were pretty fun, too.

I love a pier-6 brawl.

- Dudleys/Vaudevillains vs. New Day/Cass:
The Dudleys are still a lot of fun in the ring and on the mic.

I'm liking this match overall. Nice action.

Good isolation of Kofi by the heels.

Pretty good action from the faces.

That was a solid match altogether.

- Becky vs. Emma:
Pretty good action from both women. Emma's really stepped up her game since last time she was a regular on the main roster.

This is great! I'm very glad the division has moved toward people like these two.

Nice match overall.

I really, really, couldn't care much less about Primo and Epico coming back unless they're bringing something different to the table. They can only go so far with some of the other teams in the division who are doing pretty well.

I love Ambrose trying to get Stephanie to snap and admit she hates Shane.

Hahaha nice for Jericho to "call it quits" on Twitter earlier only to return on Raw. I do think the Highlight Reel has run its course, but we'll see what comes of it.

That was really solid to get Jericho his heat back and set Ambrose up to get revenge.

- U.S. Title Battle Royal:
I enjoy a fun battle royal every so often. Just throw a bunch of people in a match and see what happens.

Zack Ryder's a lot of fun as the face in peril fighting the odds.

Del Rio vs. Sheamus Round 87 at Extreme Rules?

That was a pretty fun ending. I look forward to Rusev vs. Kalisto.

I hope this is the last time a promotion tries to recreate the Montreal Screwjob. That was in Bill Clinton's second term...

At least they're making the most of Charles Robinson as Lil' Naitch. Good continuity there.

Charlotte making reference to Natalya's love of cats was pretty funny.

You see how much all this means to Bret Hart by his absence tonight.

That was mostly good for Natalya getting heat back on Ric. I hope there's a solid wrestling match between the two women at Extreme Rules.

YES. A submission match should be really good. ESPECIALLY with no interferences.

- AJ/Gallows/Anderson vs. Roman/Usos:
Good action early. These guys know how to work.

Really solid match so far!

Everyone's contributing good action here.

Really fun match.

If AJ won't be the leader Gallows and Anderson want, maybe there's another former Bullet Club member they can turn to?

I like Reigns as the furious family man.

BAH GAWD. Roman kicking AJ's ass this much makes up for the weak booking he went through at the PPV.

More wrestling coming up.
