NXT and Main Event Reax - 5/11/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's NXT and Main Event.
NXT:
This is something of a victory lap for Finn before heading to the main roster to join his Clubbing friends. Call it an NXT farewell tour if you will.

I love the level of heat Samson's able to get.

Finn said more with one kick than the current Bullet Club did with literally dozens Sunday night.

I really hope we're in for more EY. It was good to see him in a fresh environment.

Effective backstage promo from Finn. I look forward to the main event.

- A. Alpha vs. Hollis/Skyler:
I kind of want to see Hollis and Skyler be the official NXT jobber team, with their own entrance and promos and such.

Hollis and Skyler are getting BTFO their opponents' amateur skills. The tag champs are playing on a low difficulty setting.

The victims aren't bad, just out of their league against such a talented team.

I'm all for a rematch the champs and The Revival. They were really great in Dallas.

Nakamura is something else. Luckily his gimmick is "crazy Japanese guy," because that promo wouldn't have worked from anyone else.

- Riley vs. Nakamura:
I'm going to miss Alex Riley in NXT. He's a believable antagonist with size, experience, and strength.

Oh, man. This is a fun match of contrasting styles and personalities.

Riley's making a statement here.

That was a good test of Nakamura's readiness for the WWE style. Nice aggression from both men.

Really good backstage segment to set up next week's big tag match. Simple and effective, and BAMF work together brilliantly. For those wondering, this was taped before Blake's injury.

- Bliss vs. Ellering:
Alexa's a lot of fun as a heel.

This is alright considering each woman's level of experience. Alexa's showing her mean streak pretty well.

Nice match to continue Bliss' training. Ellering is probably worth bringing back in the future after that performances.

Mostly good promo from Bayley and Nia. I'm definitely interested in seeing them face off again.

- Balor vs. Samson:
Samson can be a credible wrestler given his size and build.

That was pretty good for the time it had. Keep an eye on The Drifter going forward.

Looks like WWE's process of renaming controversial moves is back at it. 1916 was previously called Bloody Sunday.

Balor's fired up for a rematch.

Wow. They're not wasting time getting to the next Takeover special. I think that's a good move. Balor gets his rematch and move on to bigger things, and Joe can move onto his next challenger.

Main Event:
Really entertaining Social Outcasts segment. Curtis and Bo played off each other well.

Cass is a pretty good promo even without Enzo.

- Axel vs. Cass:
I have a feeling they're kind of killing time here. Main Event's pretty much a filler show.

Well that didn't take long! It was fun while it lasted.

- Crews vs. Stardust:
I feel sorry for Apollo. He was still growing as a wrestler and character in NXT, and now he's just kind of hanging out working short matches.

Stardust is a talented guy, especially when working around people still new to the WWE style. His amateur credentials and lineage serve him well.

I'm glad Crews is working a longer, more involved match. I saw plenty of short Apollo matches in NXT, and now I'm seeing them again on the main roster. It's frustrating.

I enjoy Stardust's strategy of working Crews over and trying to get the submission.

Crews is always impressive from an athletic standpoint, but he's definitely a five moves of doom guy.

Corbin taking credit for the new era is good. I hope he succeeds; WWE needs some younger big guys.

- Corbin vs. Ryder:
This is going pretty well so far. Ryder's a strong worker to improve people's games on the main roster.

I like Corbin's brawling style. He's a throwback to a bygone era.

Ryder's working his ass off to make an impression here.

Nice ending.

More wrestling coming up.
