NXT and Main Event Reax - 10/19/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's NXT and Main Event.

NXT:
- Nese/Gulak promo:
Nice nod to Dusty's dancing, but being dressed so formally went against their gimmick.

- Swann/Jose vs. Nese/Gulak:
I'm liking the combination of styles with Gulak and Swann. There's a natural contrast there.

NWJ has better wrestling fundamentals than a lot of wrestlers with more pre-WWE experience.

Swann being able to out-punch Nese and Gulak isn't believable.

Everyone here brings something good to the table. Jose has good power, Swann's an incredible flyer, Gulak has a solid "shoot" style to his offense, and Nese is a jack of all trades who excels in those trades.

- Swann/Jose promo:
That was pretty good. I like this duo.

- Tye interview:
Good fire from Dillinger. He's really growing as a babyface. I'm glad they didn't force him in that role.

- Aries promo:
I'll pop like no one's business if someone slips on that banana.

Austin taking nice shots at Hideo. I'd be fine if they shoehorned him as being the guy who attacked him a LONG time ago.

- Roode vs. Maluta:
Smart of Maluta to take advantage of Roode when he's talking.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Maluta picked up as a regular given his heritage.

Glorious squash by the former TNA World Champion. It's not like he really has anything to improve on after so many years of experience wrestling for TV.

- Roode/Tye:
They call this man The It Factor of Professional Wrestling for a reason. That was a solid promo.

More good fire from The Perfect 10. I'm excited for this clash.

- Liv/Billie/Peyton:
Obviously this should lead to Liv and Charly Caruso against Billie and Peyton.

One hell of a beatdown from the Australians. I mean, they do say things are dangerous there.

Billie and Peyton are already a great duo. Their confidence from working together for so long really shows.

- Knight/Otis promo:
Talk about walls of humanity.

- Knight/Otis vs. Aries/Strong:
The Writers of Anguish showing impressive strength early.

Oh, I like these big brutes already.

Strong's vanilla, but he's a pretty high-quality extract.

I'm glad the mastadons don't have to job outright to the indie standouts. Tucker's already doing better than Bull Dempsey.

Good enough sequence of MOVES to end things.

- Cien promo:
I like the idea of Almas using Andrea as a mouthpiece.

Good intensity. I like him as a heel already.

- Cross vs. Kamela:
I'm liking the mad dog mentality of Nikki Cross.

Well, that was definitely different!

- Post-match:
HOLY SHIT. SHE'S COMPLETELY UNHINGED!

Nikki's so far "gone" she doesn't seem to care about the win or the loss. That's pretty believable, actually.

- Shinsuke/Clark/Joe:
Nakamura's pretty believably crazy, too, but not in the same way as Shinsuke.

And another crazy guy! I hope he doesn't go too "Orlando Jordan in TNA" in this role.

Even if Patrick wasn't dressed like that, I'd be convinced he had a screw loss for challenging the champion.

That was pretty good to continue the sell for Toronto.

Main Event:
Commentary:
Kind of weird to see English here, but it makes sense for him to scout the tag team division.

- Ryder vs. Breeze:
Pretty good start.

I like Fandango getting involved. It puts into perspective this is about the tag team division instead of just a match on its own.

I'm liking the back-and-forth here.

Nice counter to the Rough Ryder.

Good for Rawley to help his partner out.

Fine enough match overall. I'm curious to see how the tag team totem pole fills out if the Spirit Squad become regulars.

- A. Alpha vs. Ascension:
Nice chain wrestling to start off. Viktor's pretty solid and makes a nice foil for Konnor.

Gable and Jordan are wrestling machines.

Pretty good action so far. I'm liking Konnor providing some nastiness and anger to the equation.

Konnor has some decent wrestling chops himself.

Nice offense from The Ascension.

WOW. Fall of Man is no longer a kill move. Way to drop Ascension even lower.

It's a testament to how good Gable is that he overshadows someone as talented as Jordan. Both men are incredible.

More wrestling coming up.
