WWE No Mercy preview

Read on for my ideas for booking tonight's Smackdown special event.
- Corbin vs. Swagger:
Swagger losing clean here could easily derail whatever momentum he has left. So, I'd have Corbin get cocky and it cost him. Good match, but Swagger goes over with the ankle lock.

- Hawkins debut:
Just have Curt beat some jobber to show what he's all about. I'm sure he'll be back to "pin me, pay me" status soon enough, so he might as well at least bust out a finisher and win this match so they have an idea of what moves to give him in WWE 2K18.

- Becky vs. Alexa:
Alexa gives it her all and looks good in defeat and all that, but Becky gets the win to keep her momentum going.

- Nikki vs. Carmella:
Nikki gets revenge on Carmella. I like Carmella well enough, but I think it's worth giving Nikki a spotlight in the women's title picture at Survivor Series. Becky vs. Nikki could really put the new champ over as someone who can hang at a high level. I'm OK with Alexa vs. Naomi being our other women's feud for a little while. Carmella still needs work before being in a bigger role, so maybe she should take time off from TV to train. They could do some vignettes about that before we see her wrestle on TV again.

- Slater/Rhyno vs. Usos:
How about the Usos try to cheat only to get stopped by American Alpha so the champs retain? I like the Usos as heels and don't want to hurt their momentum in the loss. Then we can get a triple threat at Survivor Series, which will be tricky because you don't want Slater and Rhyno to be eclipsed as the top faces by American Alpha or vice versa.

- Miz vs. Ziggler:
The sensible thing to do would be have Ziggler win and be the confident babyface champion who fights so hard and his dreams came true and he loves wrestling in front of the WWE Universe and all that jazz. What I'd like to see is Miz getting the (crooked?) win and Ziggler disappearing from WWE for several months - no live events, no YouTube videos, nothing. He can still do whatever comedy appearances or whatever, but he has to do it as Nick Nemeth. He'd get a separate Twitter account for his non-WWE live and everything, and is only permitted to use it sparingly and generically "I'll be appearing on ____ show on ____ date" kind of stuff; no wrestling references, no trying to pop the smarky fans, or anything. The story here is that he lost his WWE career and now he doesn't know what's next, so for three months or however long he's not Dolph Ziggler.
- During this time away, he changes his look and changes his style. Whether that's a new haircut, putting on some weight, growing facial hair, whatever... he's not the same Dolph when we finally see him again (more on that momentarily). If he comes back looking slightly different but does the same Show Off stuff, he'll end up pretty much in the same place he's been for years. New finisher, new music (not just a remix), they can even have him come back as Nick Nemeth. It needs to be a realistic overhaul of his character, his attitude, and his style in the ring.

- As for bringing him back, I like the idea of months later on SportsCenter or via an interviewer like Maria Menounos (because Miz is a Hollywood star and all) asking about Nemeth and Miz saying he hasn't seen him in months and he doesn't care, he's tired of talking about Nemeth, etc. Then have him and Maryse tear up planted pro-Ziggler signs and telling people he'll do to them what he did to Nemeth and so on. We see some home-recorded videos of Nemeth's new workouts and such, how he looks different and hungry for his next career path, and so on, and Miz of course says he'd still be able to beat him despite his training or whatever. Eventually Bryan and/or Shane push Miz's buttons so much and the crowd gets in on the We Want Nemeth train, so Miz demands they bring Nemeth back so he can end this once and for all. The stage is set for Miz vs. the new Nemeth at WM33. This is the first time we actually see him in action after all these months. If Nemeth does his part in transforming himself (as a work and a shoot), he should have a pretty good boost in his career. If he goes right back to yelling every promo, inside references, etc., it will show he cares more about being praised for his hard work by critics than actually being a top guy.

- Bray vs. Orton:
Orton outsmarts Bray to get the win.

- AJ vs. Cena vs. Ambrose:
AJ retains and continues his push. AJ vs. Orton at Survivor Series.

More wrestling coming up.
