ROH All-Star Extravaganza VIII Reax

Read on for my thoughts on last night's ROH PPV.

Phew, it's going to be a LONG night. Hopefully BFG will get the taste of ROH out of my mouth on Sunday.

- Opening video:
Hopefully this is the Adam Cole Farewell/I'm Heading to WWE Next Year BAYBAY Tour. I'm definitely glad he's champ instead of lethal.

- Fish vs. Dijak:
I have liked the ascension of Donovan Dijak, and Fish is a pretty solid hand.

Good strategy early to use tenacity, submissions, and speed to try to take down the big man.

I'm really getting behind Dijak. He's growing as a wrestler and using his size well.

Fish is a fighter. I admire that.

I really like the story of Dijak's knee being worked on. Big shout-out to ROH for how this one's turning out. It could have easily been every other MOVESfest.

So, you're a big guy and your knee's so hurt you can't get the win with your finisher. WHY would you do a twisting moonsault? Go for a chokeslam or something.

You know, that was pretty solid. Unique ending to protect the challenger in defeat.

- Caprice promo:
I liked that. I want them to run with The Cabinet as heels.

- ANX vs. Dalton/Cabana vs. War Machine vs. P. B. Killers:
For those who got tired of all the mat work and power in the last match, here's a dive right out of the gate! From the team who's been going on a tirade about the flippy ROH style, no less.

I'm liking the strategy by ANX.

OK, that Cabana/Castle pinfall spot was pretty funny.

Castle's a solid name to have around.

Oh look big guys doing flips. It's impressive, but when everyone does that kind of thing, it gets tiring to see the big guys doing it, too.

Well that win was out of nowhere. I do like the idea of people being too busy doing flips and missing out on getting the win, though. That should be a more regular thing.

- Nigel on Ladder War:
I've never seen a Ladder War match. I assume it's TLC with even more contrived spots.

- Lee vs. Kamaitachi:
Nice way to set up a feud between two people we've never seen face off in ROH before. The storytelling in ROH has been improving lately.

SPOTS and SPOTS and SPOTS. Meltzer's going to love this.

Uggggggghhhhhhh....

All this is impressive, but feels more like a stunt show than a heated match.

This is just awful. There's no restraint at all. Just meaningless highspot after meaningless highspot done to get cheap reactions and good star ratings from the small portion of the audience that cares about that kind of thing.

Unnecessarily dangerous ending. This is what wrestling's turned into in 2016. For shame.

- Page vs. O'Reilly:
I like what we're seeing from Page since becoming the Hangman other than the shooting star from the apron. It takes away from him being a badass.

O'Reilly's a talented guy. Bland as hell, but talented.

Wow. That was quick.

- Post-match:
Good enough to save Page's ass. Hopefully he rebounds after the loss.

- Silas interview:
Passionate promo from someone who really delivered only to end up in an unimportant role.

- ACH/KUSHIDA/White vs. Briscoes/Yano:
OK stuff to start off.

Same old, same old.

I do like the combination of Yano and the Briscoes. Yano's growing on me.

KUSHIDA's a talented guy. I feel like everyone's doing armbars now, but he's a solid wrestler.

ACH is Generic Flippy Guy No. 657.

White's pretty generic, too.

Lots of action from everyone.

Yay.... a double superkick spot...

Yano tried to make that one interesting, but the generic highspots hurt the ending. Flippy moves and dives are killing my interest in wrestling. Hopefully we see more of Yano.

- Lethal vs. Naito:
BASED NAITO. That's one way to get the taste of the last match out of my mouth. Hopefully these two do something wrestling-based.

Nope. It's dive time.

These two work hard, but oftentimes it's more important to work smart.

Both men are definitely working hard and going at it like this feud actually matters. I like that.

Good save by EVIL.

This is crazy.

I guess that was mostly good. Lots of drama and false endings. It felt like a fight most of the time, which is good.

- Cole promo:
This guy can cut a promo.

Top guy material for sure. Really solid delivery here.

- Cole vs. Elgin:
Wait, back the fuck up. Flippy Ladder Shit VI is headlining over the ROH Title? Yeah, that's some bullshit.

I love Elgin's power.

And that's why you don't play to the crowd when you're against someone like Elgin.

Smart psychology early.

Gee, maybe don't do an enziguiri when you have a hurt knee?

Really good so far.

JESUS CHRIST is Elgin trying to kill him!? That German suplex was SCARY.

Elgin's a hell of a talent, but this is getting highspot heavy.

"Hey you know those moves you can't do in WWE because they might injure someone? Here you go."

Tried too hard (although not as hard as the next match will try, I'm sure). Mostly good. The style just hurt it. I'd rather see these two in NXT/WWE someday.

- Flipstravaganza with ladders:
Synchronized flipping in a wrestling ring.

yayyyyy dives and ridiculous double-teams. Can't wait to see this get ****3/4.

"Just hit each other with weapons and take big bumps fam."

This is wild, for better or worse.

It's backyard wrestling and a videogame combined.

Big MOVES. You know the score by now.

I mean, damn. They're killing each other for the sake of This Is Awesome chants and approval from Meltzer. What's going on here?

GOOD GAWD ALMIGHTY. I can at least respect the punishment they're putting themselves through. For some reason this Jackass/Ridiculousness style is over with the people who will spend money on indie wrestling.

I mean dear God this is inhuman.

The silly stunts keep topping themselves.

They're trying to kill Daniels.

Some of this is actually funny for how ridiculous it is. I can at least enjoy it for that reason.

Oh, so now more people are getting involved in the business.

Good God who signs up to take these kinds of bumps? And WHY!?

Insane match. The Bucks earned those belts for all the collective punishment and MOVES they put themselves through.

More wrestling coming up.
