Read on for my segment-by-segment thoughts on the 8/31 Smackdown.
While I enjoyed the opening segment, it seems too soon for Sandow vs. Sheamus. Is WWE really in this big of a drought for stars?
I harp on older guys going over younger guys, and it's no different here. Mysterio's still got "it", but with 2 Wellness strikes he could be gone for a year at any given moment. He also has a history of injuries. With WWE needing to push new blood, the time was right for Rhodes to be protected, or better yet, win. Follow-up will be important.
I wish the Divas got more TV time to establish the division as something important.
Good backstage segment to continue Vickie/AJ. Should they be spending that much TV time on two non-active wrestlers? Not sure.
That's about all they could do for Sheamus vs. Sandow. Neither should be losing clean to the other. It'd bring Sheamus down and hurt Sandow's momentum.
Pretty damn solid tag match with some hungry young talent. The tag division might have legs after all.
Crazy segment involving Del Rio and Kane.
Surprising win by Del Rio over a monster like Kane. Not that I disagree with the 2012 talent beating the Attitude Era guy.
Kane's character is at least interesting, even if the direction's kind of weird.
They don't have time to give the Divas a decent-sized match, but they can play the hell out of some video packages from Raw.
I don't get WWE's booking sometimes. Orton just came back from a second Wellness suspension. He should be on thin ice and putting people over, especially a guy like Ziggler who's busted his ass and stayed clean. One guy's been to the top of the mountain several times and doesn't gain much from a win. The other's still finding his way. He has momentum from winning MITB and beating Jericho. Roll with it!
I'll be back for more when I'm able, including news posts.
