Benoit-Network note, IWGP Title match at Field of Honor, Bellas win at TCAs, Booker trainee starts at WWEPC, Rosa getting back in the ring, TNA tag teams PPV, Summerslam rivalry to be spotlighted, Raw guest star next week, new NXT dates including Canada debut, Lilian leaves WWE, Raw and NXT guests, Booker has surgery, and Questions on the importance of the IC Title, Cena's in-ring future, where Cody would have ended up in the draft, WWE's Brock statement, and WWE drying up the talent pool

The 2007 Chris Benoit tribute edition of Raw was not added to the WWE Network alongside other episodes from that year. Instead, there's a special featuring Todd Grisham looking at top title matches from the year for that week. It's believed this show was sent out internationally that week for markets that didn't carry Raw live. I can't say I'm surprised they didn't put the Chris Benoit episode up, but I didn't know they had something filmed back then to more or less "retcon" the episode from ever existing.

Michael Elgin vs. Donovan Dijak for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship is set for Field of Honor. That should be pretty fun. I miss Elgin as a regular, but I don't blame him in the least for going to NJPW.

The Bella Twins won the Choice Female Athletes Award at the Teen Choice Awards. That's a big nod for them, and pretty much assures we'll see plenty of Nikki once she recovers.

The now-former Marcellus Black, NFL player Brennan Williams, has begun training at the WWEPC. I hope he does good things there.

Rosa Mendes is back at the WWEPC training to return to the ring. You know the women's division is pretty stretched when she's being called on to bump again; she hasn't had a match in 16 months. Obviously her pregnancy had a good deal to do with that.

TNA has announced a PPV featuring its top tag matches available on demand. It's good for them to try to make money from their video library. They've got 14 years of footage they can make use of to fill out programming.

WWE Network is putting together a collection focused on a significant Summerslam match. Fans get to choose which match is spotlighted.

Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs will be part of next week's Raw. I love how many name changes he's had. I hope he's involved with something cool beyond promoting his own endeavors.

NXT will run the U.S. Midwest from September 16 through September 18, and Canada from September 22 through September 24. These will be NXT's first shows north of the border. It's great to see them expanding there. Hopefully they continue to grow internationally.

William Regal appeared at PROGRESS Wrestling in the UK, perhaps scouting talent for WWE. Rumors swirl we'll see the likes of Zack Sabre, Jr., Noam Dar, and Jack Gallagher join either NXT or the main roster.

The former Victoria teased returning on Smackdown. If she can still wrestle a full-time schedule, she'd be a valuable veteran addition to things. Ditto for Mickie James; WWE should scout her and Magnus.

AJ Styles got a special T-shirt for the Atlanta Raw. Obviously he's a Smackdown guy, but I'm sure that was still a good seller.

Lilian Garcia has left WWE in order to spend time with her father as he battles cancer. I can't blame her for making that decision in the least. I wish them both well going forward.

Ric Flair, Ernest "The Cat" Miller, Ron Simmons, T-Pain, and Scott Hall were all at Raw in WCW territory. I'm a little surprised Ric wasn't on TV for the Charlotte/Sasha angle, but I'm more than OK with the focus being on the current active wrestlers.

MVP was backstage at NXT's recent show in Houston, Texas. That will ramp up the rumors of him returning. There have been reports of WWE contacting him, but no confirmation of him signing a contract or anything.

Booker T. underwent elbow surgery this weekend, and has retired the Spinaroonie as a result. That's a sensible decision. Maybe his newly-signed protege will pick it up as an homage?

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. The title's importance, to me, is measured by whether people are fighting for it. If the competitors themselves don't seem to care about holding the title, there's really no reason for us to care about it. I'd rather have it change hands every three months than one person hold the title for nine months because no one cares enough to challenge for it.

2. The idea of using Cena as seldomly as Lesnar is a terrible one. He's a top name and can still go regularly. Save the Lesnar/Taker schedule for when his bump card's more full. For now he can be a big draw and work with newer acts to get them to the next level. As for his future, I definitely think he's going to keep doing outside projects, but I don't see him totally abandoning wrestling anytime soon. If anything, he could approach a Jericho schedule in the years to come if he has enough on his plate outside of wrestling.

3. It probably wouldn't have mattered which show he went to as far as going back to being Cody or getting a big push. They were pretty convinced he was a Main Event/Superstars level guy.

4. They pretty much had to put out some kind of statement; that's the reality of being such a big publicly-traded company with an image to keep up. I think people will still work a lot of matches snce they already had two main roster live event tours going on at once. Regardless, as we saw with Hornswoggle, people under full-time deals are still tested randomly even if they don't appear on TV.

5. Well, WWE can't sign anyone already under contract to TNA and ROH. I definitely think WWE have been picking up a LOT of talented people in the HHH Era, but I don't think we're at a point where there aren't talented people to be used in other promotions. WWE periodically sheds its roster, too, so names head back out to be used elsewhere. And it's not like Jinder Mahal and Curt Hawkins were about to join TNA and turn things around for them.

More wrestling tomorrow.
