Impact Wrestling Reax - 8/25/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's Impact Wrestling.

- EC3/Drew sitdown:
Putting two employees alone with a bottle of whiskey hardly sounds like a great idea by management. Maybe in the '70s, but I'd like to think there are better ways to accomplish whatever they're trying to accomplish.

- Lashley joins commentary:
Great continuity of the Pope not wanting to get involved with Lashley. I can hardly blame him!

- No. 1 Contender's battle royal:
Hardly a big field considering the winner goes for the World Title. It'd take a really compelling reason for so many people to not be involved in this. Even if they're tied up in other feuds, surely a World Title shot is important enough for them to focus on this for a second.

BASED Moose. I'm so glad he's here.

Funny stuff from Drake. He's someone to watch in the years to come.

I never expected a springboard double clothesline from Godderz. That was a grand sight.

They're definitely treating Moose as a big deal, and seemingly indestructible.

I'm very glad Edwards didn't win, but it's not like Bennett's special, either. That ending made sense to continue things along.

- Post-battle royal:
Moose vs. Bennett at BFG? Lashley killing Bennett works to keep the champ busy for a few weeks.

- More EC3/Drew:
I really hope we see EC3 and Drew work blitzed out of their minds (in kayfabe). That could be pretty entertaining. It'd be nice if Management ordered them to get designated drivers for going home (or a taxi).

- Tyrus ad:
I hope Bram calls Tyrus and they go after the Decay. That storyline just got pushed to the side.

- Moose/Bennett/Maria backstage:
Yeah, Moose vs. Bennett at BFG seems like a safe bet. Then Moose goes for the title I'm guessing. It will depend on where Aron Rex, Drew Galloway, and potentially Bully Ray and/or Alberto El Patron fit in.

- Hardys/Decay segment:
Weird stuff so far.

This is the craz(z)iest direction I've seen a wrestling company go in a while.

I love how this show goes from a big war battle royal to Goth Soap Opera Time.

I can't wait for this angle to show up on WWE.com in 10 years and people who aren't watching now try to make sense of it.

- Nero vs. Abyss:
And the crazziness continues with the match.

Damn, Abyss survived a low blow AND a shot with a chain.

Wild, wild stuff.

- Post-match promo:
I assume Nero's going to start wrestling like Matt's current gimmick in order to try to win the titles. This was good to continue the madness.

- Maria/Allie/Sienna/Corgan segment:
I'm glad someone finally stepped in and addressed how Maria's been handling the Knockouts division.

- Lashley/Bennett segment:
That was pretty solid. I look forward to the match and where things go from there.

- Sienna vs. Allie vs. Marti vs. Jade vs. Rayne:
Sometimes it's fun to just throw a bunch of people together in a car crash match. It's a TNA booking staple.

We've just got a wild series of moves going on at this point.

Well that was something. I'm not sure what, but it was something. Fun in a "Russo" way, and sets up something more interesting than Gail going for her 9,000th Knockouts Title.

Nice selling in the post-match. This could be fun.

- Rex promo:
I'm interested to see how Aron handles the main event, considering he should want a title match, too.

- Allie backstage promo:
Allie's character has been a highlight of the Knockouts division. She's definitely more interesting than Gail and the other one-dimensional characters.

- Even more EC3/Drew:
This is funny in a trainwreck way. No, not the movie.

What does it say that TNA Management is willing to let these two guys wrestle totally plastered? Are they trying to recreate ECW again?

- Lashley/Moose segment:
TNA does a pretty good job of moving stories along in an interesting way. A lot of that is having to tape so much TV at once and having a long time to plan the next tapings, but it's still good to see the attention to detail and continuity.

- X-Division Fact of Life:
Eli burying the X-Division works for me. It's a shame we have to see a new champion instead of just shuttering the whole thing.

I hope this is leading to Eli being X-Division Champion. That's the only interesting option. They must have re-signed Tigre Uno as a rib, because he hasn't been here since January.

DJ Z beating Lashley would be embarrassing for Lashley, for TNA, and for wrestling.

Eli psyching out the flippers was good. He held that segment mostly afloat. No one in the X-Division is interesting anymore.

- EC3 vs. Drew:
Well it didn't take long for this one to heat up!

I wish more people countered dives.

Galloway is a wrestling MACHINE. I like it.

Absolute madness. Both men going REALLY hard here.

We're getting ROH levels of kicking out of big moves. Be careful.

Jesus. Even a Tombstone won't end this one.

I liked the action, but it was primarily signature big moves. There's little patience for matches that aren't that style these days, sadly.

- EC3/Drew/Rex post-match:
BAH GAWD THAT MAN HAS A FAMILY. Absolutely BRUTAL beatdown by Drew.

There's a point where a beatdown becomes legalized assault. This is really tough stuff.

More wrestling coming up.
