Main Event Reax - 8/17/16 and ROH Reax - 8/18/16

Read on for my thoughts on this week's episodes of Main Event and ROH.
Main Event:
- Kane vs. Starks:
I guess Kane's getting the Braun Strowman/Nia Jax treatment for a while.

Squash matches can be fun sometimes when there's such a clear difference between the person winning and the poor victim.

That was a nice uppercut spot.

R.I.P. Starks. We barely knew you.

- Rhyno vs. Corbin:
I'm getting NXT flashbacks.

I love a hoss vs. hoss match here and there.

These two work together pretty well.

Corbin's got a good trash talk game in his own right.

That was a pretty solid ending sequence. Corbin earned the win against a game opponent.

ROH:
Nice look back at last week's important events. ROH is doing a better job with using their TV show to tell a continuous narrative building toward PPVs.

- Dijak vs. Rush:
One of these men is an impressive talent with a bright future. The other man is Lio Rush.

I'm already liking the domination from Dijak.

Nice story of David vs. Goliath.

I've seen SO. MANY. talents who fit into the same mold of Lio Rush. There are only so many small, fast, flippy guys I can stand to see because they all blend together.

NICE counter to the frog splash.

Nice showing so far from Dijak to combat Flipbot Model 345. Rush has already been replaced as THE flippy guy in favor of Ospreay and Ricochet. Presumably they'll be replaced as the most buzzed about spotmonkey by February or March.

That was OK overall. Dijak carried him SO hard to make it work.

- Post-match beatdown leading to White and Kamaitachi getting involved:
And there's a random setup for a tag match. I do really like Kamaitachi.

- Cabinet/Castle segment:
The Cabinet trying to remove one of the only entertaining parts of ROH is making them back into heels. Stick to getting rid of spotmonkeys. That's a full-time job already.

- War Machine/PB Killers backstage fight:
I'm ready to be disappointed by this match. That's a shame, because they could all be quite good if War Machine worked like the big guys they are.

- Page/J. Briscoe segment:
It always feels like what happens in Japan/with Japanese talents is more important than what happens in ROH.  Bullet Club, after all, is an NJPW act first and foremost.

Page is pretty generic without being part of a faction.

- Tag team clustermess:
Pretty generic segment, but that makes sense when you do the bare minimum of story before getting to the flips.

It's a shame people ACTUALLY rate Young Bucks matches at close to five stars. That says more about people who rate matches than about them.

Ummm if RPG Vice deserve a match and the Bucks don't, why not just give Vice the next title shot? Or the Bucks could challenge Vice to put their title shot on the line and they could do the dumb babyface thing and accept because "it will be a great match and we're the best wrestlers and we want to earn our title match!"

- Vice vs. Bucks:
I guess they felt after all that character progression in brief segments, it was time for choreographed spots.

I am SSSSSOOOOOO tired of small, flippy guys. There needs to be like a three month ban on superkicks, slingshot moves, and dives because every other match has them now. They're not highspots anymore because they're the whole match. There are no "low spots" of chain wrestling or anything to make those big moments meaningful. It's like a Michael Bay movie with no plot but a lot of explosions.

This is terrible. They're doing a lot of impressive athletic stuff, but none of it really means anything because it's all just done to get a reaction for being flashy.

OK, the jumping super kick was actually funny. Ditto for the "suck it" punches. If these guys just did silly stuff during intermissions or something, I might like them better.

Flashy moves and superkicks and superkicks and superkicks....

This should have ended already. But everyone's got to get ALL their cool moves in.

Finally the segment's over. I really don't look forward to another round of Addiction/Bucks. Hopefully Nigel makes it their last match for a year or something.

- Contract signing:
Lethal trying to be a super serious wrestler is always funny to watch.

Adam Cole works circles around Lethal as a character/on the mic.

I do like the idea of shaving Jay's head being a sign of being able to take things from the champ. I wish they would have established that earlier.

ROH's constant talk of having the best wrestlers/wrestling comes across as insecure. They do have some great workers, but at some point the constant talk of good wrestlers is overkill.

The ROH Title isn't all that prestigious, really. It's the "we haven't gotten a call from HHH yet" belt.

That was mostly a strong promo from Jay, other than saying it's not about a championship. Dumb. It should have been it's not JUST about a championship. That's an important difference.

That was mostly a good ending. There are some interesting potential directions for the ROH World Title going forward, with Cabana and O'Reilly possibly in the picture, too.

More wrestling coming up.
