WWE live event notes, Benjamin return pushed back, contenders match added to DBD14, Conor gets heel heat, and Questions on filming while driving, Smackdown names on Raw's tour, PWG influencing WWE, how to book Rollins vs. Balor, and calling it the New Era

Jimmy Uso was not on the road this weekend either as he continues to recover. Hey may or may not be ready in time for Summerslam. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Usos on the Kickoff show again if he's cleared.

Eva Marie cut a promo at a live event this weekend, but didn't wrestle. She needs to get experience in the ring if she's ever going to "make it" long-term as a wrestler. Although, maybe she's trying to "pull a Rosa Mendes" and coast by for years on her looks. That might not be a bad idea from a financial standpoint, but people like the Bellas, Kelly Kelly, and Candice Michelle really worked hard to be better workers during their time in WWE.

Shelton Benjamin will undergo surgery before returning to the ring. It sounds like WWE should have waited until he was through with his physicals before signing him to return. I hope he still has a fruitful run with the company once he recovers.

ROH has booked a Four Corners Survival Match to determine a No. 1 contender to the TV Championship. Donovan Dijak, Lio Rush, Jay White, and Kamaitachi, will compete at DBD 14 for the title shot. That's a pretty interesting combination of performers.

Conor McGregor continued working the WWE AND UFC marks with a brilliant tweet. He just made himself as a huge face to insecure hugpunch fans and a huge heel to easily-triggered wrestling fans. People will now pay more attention to his next bout and put more money in his pockets. Well played, sir. Well played.

- Roman Reigns took the bait, AND showed a poor grasp of grammar.

- A bunch of others did, too. I'm a big WWE fan, but a lot of these people got straight-up worked. Ric in particular, who took his own gimmick from Buddy Rogers.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I was also disappointed in Ryback's decision-making there. Illegal or otherwise, distracted driving can be very dangerous.

2. If Smackdown names are pulled for Raw shows by the time October comes around, I'll agree. However, those shows were booked some time ago. A lot of overseas fans bought tickets to see Cena. I imagine things will be all sorted out for shows that were booked after the brand extension took place. Smackdown will have Monday live events and Raw might have Tuesday live events in otder to even things out. It's WAY too soon to call the brand split a failure and say Smackdown's buried.

3. I expect the people working NXT/CWC and the people recruiting talent for those shows are pretty familiar with PWG. I think it's entirely possible PWG and its style were an influence for the New Era of WWE Network in-ring content.

4. One man looking strong in defeat and being booked as important going forward works. I just hope we don't see Brock or Roman arrive to take the attention from both men, but I would think they've both been buried by drug tests. So, Balor and Rollins should get time to shine.

5. They already had the New Generation Era, but the New Era is their official name for this time period.

More wrestling tomorrow.
