NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II preview

Read on for my ideas for booking tonight's NXT special event.

- Ember vs. Billie:
The goal here needs to be showcasing Ember while showing Billie is game, too. A pure squash match doesn't do Ember as much good as hanging with someone who has chops as a wrestler. Ember wins here and beats the usual crew of Deonna Purrazzo, Santana Garrett, and/or Tessa Blanchard to establish herself in the weeks to come. I'd pencil in Ember challenging for the Women's Title at October's Takeover special.

- Jose vs. Aries:
Aries making quick work of Jose does nothing for the former world champion and kills the rising act's momentum. Jose beating Aries could hurt Austin more than bring Jose up if not done right. My solution is Jose being fired up and bringing his all against a surprised Aries before ultimately tapping to the Last Chancery. He puts up a fight before going down, though, and hopefully gets the crowd behind him for hanging with the talented veteran. That would elevate him despite the loss.

- Revival vs. Ciampa/Gargano:
I think it's a little too soon to have the champions drop the belts again. Plus, I'd want to keep the challengers available to either feud with each other or be called up for the cruiserweight division. For now, The Revival retain. They're really going to need some new teams to work with, though. Hopefully some CWC signings pair up in NXT or an EVOLVE team gets a run. I'd be thinking of calling The Revival up when Smackdown introduces tag team titles. Feuding with American Alpha for that championship at Survivor Series would be a great way to start Smackdown's division in a big way.

- Asuka vs. Bayley:
Asuka wins, and Bayley says goodbye to NXT. Smackdown needs her BADLY. I don't think it's out of the question for her to work Backlash after some teaser vignettes on TV in the weeks ahead. Either that or start vignettes after that show and have the first Universal Women's Championship (ugh) match at October's Smackdown PPV.

- Almas vs. Roode:
Almas puts on his best showing so far, but there's no beating Bobby Roode in his debut. Roode's absolutely a main roster level player. I hope Eric Young isn't too far behind.

- Joe vs. Shinsuke:
Shinsuke wins to end the night on a high note. There are more ways to go with him winning (rematch with Joe, Aries, Roode) than there are with Joe retaining. Joe has something of an NXT farewell tour working with the likes of Almas, Hideo, and Jose before debuting in the Royal Rumble to crack some heads.

More wrestling coming up.
