NXT and CWC Reax - 9/7/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's NXT and CWC.

- NXT:
- TM61 vs. Nese/A. Daivari:
I'm definitely excited to see Nese again. He's someone with a lot of athleticism and experience. Daivari was not bad during the CWC, either.

Nese has all the tools they could look for in an NXT recruit. I'm not crazy about a bunch of flips early in a match, but he's certainly impressive.

Oh, yay. A multiple dives to the outside spot.

This is pretty good. Everyone involved clearly has potential and knows what they're doing in there.

I would have been OK with the CWC guys winning to set up a new team in NXT. Good match overall.

- Asuka promo:
That was mostly good delivery from her. She's making progress with English pronunciation and more natural delivery.

- Ember promo:
I'm loving the video game character vibes we're getting here.

- Cutler promo:
Natural intensity and delivery from the former Marine. Good work.

- Ember vs. Von:
Ember's got great acrobatic ability and agility.

Von's not at Ember's level, but how many people are?

A little clunky, but mostly good.

- Jose promo:
NWJ's a pretty natural speaker. Mostly good babyface promo.

- Ciampa/Gargano segment:
That was pretty good overall. I guess they're still in NXT for a little while. The Revival need something to do while the tag team scene gets rebuilt.

- Almas vs. Aries:
Aries is ridiculously fluid.

Almas is a great athlete, but Aries is a great worker. He has the complete package Cien doesn't have just yet.

Aries also has a mean streak. Damn.

Solid offense from both men.

Aries just has counters for everything Cien's throwing at him.

That was mostly pretty solid. Cien continues to adjust to working a WWE-style TV match.

- Sanity promo:
I can't wait for this to lead to Bin Wang debuting. Or the new Doink or something.

- Nakamura vs. Cutler:
Mind games and kicks from the champ.

Good aggression from Cutler. He's impressive for this stage of his career.

OK for giving Shinsuke another win.

I expected Joe to run in and attack Shinsuke, but I guess they're doing a slow build to their rematch. If we're not going to see it until Survivor Series weekend, they've got a LOT of time to fill.

- CWC:
- ZSJ promo:
Sabre is understated on the mic, but not really in a boring way.

- Dar promo:
That was fine enough. Hopefully there won't be needs for big promos in the cruiserweight division, because what we've seen on this show has generally been uninspiring.

- Sabre vs. Dar:
I love the jockeying for position here. I REALLY, REALLY hope the cruiserweight division has some good submission wrestling.

I like Dar trying to get in the normally calm Sabre's head.

I'm loving the counters and the technical finesse. I'm going to miss ZSJ if he doesn't sign to WWE (indications are he's wanting to continue his career in the UK for now).

Both men are really good. I'm very impressed. After seeing so many terrible "cruiserweight" style matches in the X-Division and ROH, this is a breath of fresh air.

Beautiful submission wrestling.

That was absolutely incredible. It was good to see so much selling and ring psychology.

- TJP promo:

Man this guy's annoying. But not in an "I want the turn the channel" way. He's just the stereotypical cocky millenial.

- Swann promo:
Pretty good babyface promo.

- Perkins vs. Swann:
OK opening, but it feels like they're just doing submission spots to show off some flashiness ahead of a bunch of flips.

I'm not normally a fan of this kind of thing, but it's almost like a breakdance duel going on here.

This is evolving into having a pretty good story as far as psychology goes. Nice to see submissions being employed and damage to body parts being sold.

That faceplant to the knees was SICK.

They're throwing out a lot of impressive, innovative moves, but there's still selling involved.

Swann not being able to do the standing 450, and Perkins countering into the kneebar was really great. Most of the time, "fighting spirit" (no-selling) would come into play there.

Pretty good match overall. Swann sold the hell out of his leg there.

More wrestling coming up.
