NXT and Main Event Reax - 9/28/16

Read on for my take on last night's NXT and Main Event.
- NXT:
- Dusty Classic announcement:
Sounds pretty cool. The Classic shook things up with some new combinations and stuff last year. The main roster could probably do something similar to give people a break from feuding with each other for a while. With a lot of time to go until Takeover in late November, it's good to have something meaningful to fill up time.

- Tye vs. Dawkins:
Dillinger can keep the cartwheel because it doesn't take away from his believability as a character.

Fine to continue rebuilding/pushing Dillinger. I wonder how much more mileage Dawkins can get at this level.

- Roode promo:
This could be a pretty good combination, and lead to a feud. Roode was really good on the mic.

- Itami promo:
That wasn't bad. His delivery's improving. I'm hype for Hideo vs. Aries.

- Revival vs. Ealys:
Having a team of huge guys works for me.

Well, we did have a new tag team before Joe killed them both.

Smart move by The Revival.

- Joe promo:
Joe on the warpath works for me.

- Matha promo:
I'm ready to see this mastadon in action. Hopefully he lasts longer than Nathan Jones.

- Ember vs. Rose:
Mandy's OK, but she's definitely got more in the looks department than the wrestling skills department.

Fine enough to give a win to Ember. Ember will need to work with people at her skill or higher in order to progress, but in the meantime, they're building her up with encounters like this.

- #DIY promo:
I like having these two continue to do some tag stuff in NXT rather than just chilling on the main roster. It will be interesting to see if they work as a team outside of the cruiserweight division. They could certainly do good things in the tag division.

- Sanity promo:
This will apparently pay off soon, but you wouldn't know it from them showing the same video for weeks on end. I wish they gave us a little more of what Sanity's all about.

- Authors vs. This Week's Sacrifices:
I love a good massacre.

R.I.P. jobbers. We hardly knew ye.

- Ellering promo:
That was simple, but effective.

- Regal/Blake/Murphy:
I'd rather Regal put them with two new partners so they can grow as performers and characters. That was pretty funny, though.

- Asuka vs. Liv:
Damn. C.M. Punk lasted longer than Liv did. That was OK for what it needed to be.

- Asuka promo:
Quick, but effective.

- Itami vs. Dorado:
Lince has some incredible agility.

DAMN. Lince flew right into a big knee.

There's some good back-and-forth here.

Hideo's definitely back in his element now. I don't know if he can make it as far as Punk or Bryan, but he's got a chance to do well enough if he gets better with English promos. He could also be a standout in the cruiserweight division if they want to go that route with him.

- Aries attacks:
Not bad to continue their feud. We're a LONG way from Toronto. Hopefully these two are involved in the Dusty Classic in some form.

- Main Event:
- Breeze vs. Crews:
Good work so far from the former NXT opponents.

Breeze is more solid than he usually gets to show (in short matches where he loses).

I like Tyler using the referee to his advantage.

I also like Breeze focusing on Crews' leg to stop all the flying.

Crews is definitely impressive.

Nice ending.

I would have liked some promos on this show, pre- and post-match.

- Corbin vs. Kane:
Corbin playing mind games.

Even though he doesn't use European-style uppercuts, Kane was actually born in Spain. I don't know what Paul Bearer and Undertaker's mom were doing there, but that's where he was born.

I enjoy a big man vs. big man match every once in a while.

This is fine enough for a time-killing brawl.

And there's your 50-50 booking. Neither man really went over.

More wrestling coming up.
