WWE Backlash preview

Read on for how I'd book tonight's Smackdown special event.

Realistically, we're going to need some more matches and segments on this show.

How about Baron Corbin squashes someone (possibly in imitation of C.M. Punk losing in UFC), then calls out anyone in the back. Kane comes out and they have a staredown. Corbin backs off for now, then Kane chokeslams the jobber.

Might as well give Apollo Crews a showcase match as well. They've got a lot of time to fill.

Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan are interrupted by Breezango backstage, who want to be on the card. The Vaudevillains complain about the tag team tournament bracket (namely the Usos and Hype Bros getting a second chance after losing). Basically, it's not manly and so on. Then, The Ascension join them and also want to be part of the picture. So, we get a triple threat tag team match to declare No. 1 Contenders...

- The Ascension vs. Breezango vs. The Vaudevillains:
The winners of this match will be the first test for the new champions. The Ascension never win anything ever, so let's have this be the match to put them back on the map (before they lose to the new champs).

- Usos vs. H. Bros:
The Usos turn it up a notch and get the win. The story is that they're really motivated to show they're the top team. I wouldn't mind a Twin Magic finish or one brother helping the other get extra leverage on the cover or something, but I don't want the Usos to look too weak. The quick loss to American Alpha was bad enough.

- Six-Pack Challenge:
Becky Lynch goes on a roll with three eliminations, only for Natalya to cut her off and pin her. Then, Alexa surprises Natalya for the win. Alexa gets the push Eva Marie looked set for since she's a better wrestler, a good promo, works hard, etc. Alexa working with the more experienced members of the women's roster will up her game even more. Of course, she goes all out as the arrogant heel everyone should pay attention to.

- Usos vs. Slater/Rhyno:
The Usos taunt Rhyno on the apron and keep Slater from tagging until he finally snaps and runs into the ring anyway. As the referee holds him back, the Usos try to injure Heath. Jason Jordan comes out to prevent that (the Usos can "inadvertently" bump the referee into Rhyno and knock him off the apron to buy some time). After Jordan does his spot, Rhyno hits a Gore on one of the Usos and Slater gets the pinfall. We get a big celebration with his family.

- Miz vs. Ziggler:
As tired as I am of Dolph, him losing here would kill the momentum he gained ahead of facing Ambrose last month. Ziggler wins and does the whole "champion who will take on anyone" thing because he's the showoff and it's all about having good matches to show Management he's grabbing the brass ring and all that bland tryhard garbage. That would allow him to go against heels and babyfaces. And maybe even some cameos from NXT (or even Raw?). It can be something like Cena's U.S. Title Open Challenge, but not pushed as being like that. He wouldn't have a title match every week or anything. No need to go through all his opponents so quickly.

- Bray vs. Orton:
Nothing groundbreaking here, booking-wise. Great match leads to Orton setting up for the RKO (with the taunts in the corner and such), then the lights going out. Rowan and Harper show up and we get a big beatdown. The Wyatts make a show of being dominant. If Harper's not 100% yet, they can protect him in tag matches or just doing brawls until he's cleared.

- Ambrose vs. Styles:
For Survivor Series, I'm thinking Styles vs. Orton for the title. That means this needs to go another month. So, the two of them just beat the holy hell out of each other until the referee declares it a no contest or double DQ or double countout or "just ring the bell and let them fight for a while." The show ends with Ambrose putting Styles through a table or something. Wacky hardcore gimmick match for the title next month.

More wrestling coming up.
