Raw Reax - 9/5/16

Read on my take on last night's Raw.

- Recap video package:
Poor Big Cass wasn't even important enough for Triple H to Pedigree.

- Foley/Stephanie backstage:
I like these little segments catching people up and setting up the episode.

Because I really wanted a Foley/Stephanie feud in 2016.

- Owens celebration:
I totally see Owens as 2016 Mick Foley in some ways. Thankfully he's not as beaten down as Foley was around the time of Mankind.

Based Owens BURYING the entitled crowd. I love it.

Owens has a point. HHH only came out more than 20 minutes into a 25 minute match.

Do celebrations ever go on without interruptions?

I'm so hype for Seth Rollins as a babyface.

This is a very exciting feud given the road these two men took to get to WWE.

I'm glad they came to blows instead of just talking.

It didn't even take two months for Raw's two authority figures to feud with each other. Ugghhhh...

- More Stephanie/Mick/Owens/Y2J:
That was OK. Hopefully that's pretty much all we see from authority figures tonight.

- Bayley vs. Charlotte:
Charlotte taking Bayley's headband was uncalled for! BAH GAWD HAVE SOME DAMN RESPECT.

This is really good so far. I'm glad we're seeing more quality female competitors coming up through NXT.

If Bayley gets injured, what's Plan C? Liv Morgan?

I love Charlotte's strategy of going after the leg.

Really good match. I hope Dana comes out from the champion's shadow at some point.

- Cruiserweight video package:
OHHHH MAN. Gallagher and Tozawa are particularly good. Metalik's awesome, too, but those two have styles that really stand out in this kind of division. WWE definitely recruited some great names for the division.

- Charlotte/Dana segment:
Dana really needs to step up after that.

- Bo promo:
No Circle of Life? At least we kind of got a Bo Rida return.

- Bo vs. Roberts:
I can't say I expected him to win a squash match after being arrested. That's the power of bo-lieving though.

- Owens/Y2J promo:
Funny stuff as always.

- Y2J vs. Rollins:
I'm glad Seth is fired up. He should be after last week.

I don't usually like suicide dive spots early in the match, but Rollins did it to continue to punish Jericho as Jericho tried to escape.

Rollins didn't take the countout because this is about so much more than a win. He's here to make a statement.

Nice springboard dropkick spot.

Rollins has a lot of energy. It's impressive.

I almost always love the Walls of Jericho to a rollup spot.

This is really enjoyable. Both men are going all out.

OH MAN. That was a great ending. Nice to see The Man rebound on his road to the Universal Title match instead of Owens distracting him for a loss.

- Cesaro promo:
BOOORRRRRIIIINNNNGGGG.

- Sheamus promo:
Well, that wasn't much more compelling. It's just about wins and losses and titles. That gets old after a while.

- Sheamus (2) vs. Cesaro (0):
Genius spot for Cesaro to try to win with a rollup ASAP. He's down and desperate.

Sheamus is so much more varied as a performer than Cesaro.

Oh, so now Sheamus is going to do the same spot over and over, too?

Man. Sheamus made pretty quick work of the injured Swissman.

- S. Stars promo:
That was actually less compelling than Cesaro's promo. That's saying something.

- Enzo/Cass promo:
Pretty funny.

Nice ending to things.

- Los Brillando Matadores de los dos Colons vs. Enzo/Cass:
Not a fan of that opening, but they just did that to cut to break.

Epico in particular is fired up here. I like it.

That was OK to have the surprise win.

- Zayn/Owens segment:
This is the feud that never ends. It just goes on and on, my friends...

Zayn's really directionless right now. I'd like to see him face Rusev if Roman's moved on. Where is Roman, anyway?

That wasn't bad overall. Owens is definitely the better promo guy.

- Nia vs. Esposito:
No jobber promo? Those were the best.

I can't blame Ann for trying a sleeper, but there's no beating Nia Jax.

Nia's better than we get to see in squash matches. I'm sure once she's facing Bayley and Sasha, we'll see more from her.

- Club/New Day segment:
OH MY GOD THAT ENTRANCE.

This is getting painful.

At least New Day's trying to save it.

OK, that dance and the ending were mostly funny.

- D. Young vs. Jinder:
This is alright.

Fine enough match. That ending was pretty impressive.

- Darren attacks Titus:
Darren showing some fire in this feud is nice.

- Nia/Alicia backstage:
Whoa. Alicia Fox sighting on Raw!

Bleh. I guess that's OK for setting up an opponent for Jax.

- Cara promo:
Check out this jobber.

- Braun vs. Cara:
SC is a talented guy. He's making the most of this.

Braun dominant as always.

NICE post-match to get Braun further over as a heel.

- Sasha/Dana promo:
Nice name drops.

Nice babyface fire from The Boss to sell the change of the division.

Strong stuff from the former champ.

No way is Sasha retiring. They would have promoted it more. Then again, Edge's retirement came out of nowhere.

Dana putting Sasha out would be the second retirement/leaving WWE angle in just a few weeks.

I look forward to more of Sasha vs. Charlotte. And Dana finally snapping out of being Charlotte's assistant.

- Owens vs. Zayn:
Who would have thought these two would headline Raw? I bet Jim Cornette's getting a lot of tweets right about now.

Wild match as they usually have.

Sami's athleticism is just insane.

OK, that's enough dives to the outside for one show.

Really good action as these two usually bring.

These two always bring a war.

I'm loving the counters and fluidity. I like how these two men's styles interact.

Please don't injure yourself again.

Nice spot on the outside of the ring.

Nice win for Owens.

- Reigns/Owens/Jericho/Foley segment:
I was wondering when we'd see the Big Dog. What's he doing at COC?

That's a good stipulation for next week. What if Jericho wins and gets in the title picture himself?

We'll see what the future holds for Reigns and Jericho, as well as where Rusev fits into all of this after feuding with Roman.

More wrestling coming up.
