Main Event Reax - 8/5/18, assorted WWE press, Heyman at WWEPC, Angle Q&A, NXT referee backstage at WWE TV, Matt Hardy medical issue, Smackdown Live live event note, Hogan teases project, new Raw matches, Miz discusses Bryan, and a Question on WWE vs. hijacking crowds

-- Main Event:
- Ryder vs. Kanellis:
Not bad so far.

I'd like to think Kanellis will get featured more when his wife's back on TV.

This isn't bad at all.

Wow. They're doing some nice work here.

Solid action!

- Hawkins vs. Breeze:
Hawkins and Ryder in singles action on the same show!!

Solid basic work to begin.

This isn't bad.

Haha I liked the inside cradle spot.

Fine work!

Triple H and AJ Styles will be at the upcoming Toronto Fan Expo. It's rare someone with as many responsibilities as HHH appears at a non-WWE convention, so this is a big opportunity.

Ric Flair was in a new commercial. He's kind of become a parody of himself at this point, but it's all pretty fun.

Paul Heyman taught promos at the WWE Performance Center this past week. That's awesome! I don't know what his future holds past Summerslam, but I'm glad he got to help talent out down there.

Kurt Angle did a brief Q&A on Facebook. I wouldn't rule out him becoming champion again given Triple H's run a few years back. It's not a bad idea for a short-term story setting up something bigger.

NXT referee Drake Yuertz is being groomed for a backstage main roster role. He could be a valuable presence in future years.

Matt Hardy tweeted about a medical issue with his lower back and pelvis. He and Reby have been posting hints that his career is about to wrap up. At times it's tough to know when Matt is just teasing something new for his character, so I'll let this play out a little before jumping to conclusions. If he is going to retire soon, I think WWE will wait until after Summerslam to announce it.

The Usos teamed with New Day and R-Truth this weekend to defeat The Bar and SAnitY, so the former rivals are on the same side now.

Hulk Hogan appeared at the National Sports Collectors Convention, teasing an nWo project in October. He has been working with Kevin Nash and Scott Hall recently, so we'll see what's coming up.

Braun Strowman granted a Make-A-Wish wish

The Miz discussed Daniel Bryan in an E! News interview. Pretty entertaining stuff, and now Bryan's a reality show star, too.

Added to Raw:
- Sasha Banks and Bayley vs. Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan
- The B-Team vs. The Revival in a non-title match. I'm curious what we'll see for the tag titles at Summerslam given the Matt situation.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com question:
1. They didn't get into this problem overnight, and they won't get out of it overnight. Bottom line, they need to make every decision based on what the majority of the target audience wants, because it's clear they won't be able to appease the beachballers. Minimize crowd noise when dumb chants start. Don't acknowledge (much less encourage) the audience's rebellious behavior. As for the root of the problem, Vince needs to seriously reconsider Triple H as head of talent development, as he's consistently recruited and cultivated talent in a way that appeals to the contrarians rather than developing WWE superstars. WWE has lost millions of dollars on his pet "indie" projects and it's only getting worse. While I and others enjoy NXT, it's not doing what it was meant to do. If a talent makes it through developmental and the writers on Raw and Smackdown Live don't know what to do with them, they haven't really been "developed" for those shows. The system needs an overhaul.

More wrestling tomorrow.
