Raw thoughts - 3/19/12

Tonight on Raw, John Cena will face off with the World's Strongest Man Mark Henry. The Undertaker, Triple H, and Shawn Michaels will all be in the ring at the same time, and The Rock has a surprise for Philly. Read on for my thoughts on all this and more as it happens.
I'm not sure the Attitude Era will ever really end given how many times wrestling companies keep going back to that well and using those stars.

I love C.M. Punk's theme song.

WWE loves Twitter and the money it brings.

Punk was forced to drink alcohol in an angle pre-WWE. That doesn't mean it wouldn't be a good thing to do now.

Nice to start to the show with Punk. He's got a big pre-WWE background in Philly.

Encouraging words from Punk. Who says he can't appeal to kids?

Kick-ass promo. Very passionate guy.

If they get Punk's dad to make an appearance, this will officially become epic.

Jericho's a great weasel.

I haven't heard anything like this about Punk's sister. Not that it needs to really be a "shoot" to be a good angle.

Part of me wants Jericho to say it's ok to be a drunk or drug abuser. Since he's a heel, the audience should be thoroughly against that message.

That was solid. If there are more "Punks" on the roster who just aren't getting the leeway and time to break out, WWE's doing us a disservice.

And after that refreshing segment, here are Kane and Big Show. I've seen these two face off since, what, 1999? At least Kane's doing something fresh, though.

That's a trip down memory lane I wish I didn't have to take. I can't be the only one who thinks that that's all a set-up for a "reversal and fortunes" and IC Title reign for Show. Not that he hasn't earned recognition for his years of work in the company. It just shouldn't come at the expense of someone who's got potential to be a top champion by this time next year (say, if he wins MITB).

Wouldn't Rhodes need to be friends with the people in the production truck to play that video? It's not like they haven't acknowledged that such people exist. DX edited in sound effects for a Vince McMahon promo just a couple of years back.

Maybe Cody just likes Punch-Out?

Again, this all looks like a set-up for Show to get revenge at Mania. Which is why Rhodes should get the win.

Did the ref just call him Cory?

I was hoping Show would punch him out, but maybe they save that for Mania?

Whoa. I'm getting "Masterpiece" flashbacks with Otunga. This guy's SMOOTH.

I know I'm not the only one who takes issue with the graphic showing the non-wrestlers instead of the announced participants in the match.

Whoa. Santino's in really good shape as well.

Obviously this isn't really "wrestling" but the fans are in to the pose-off. It stands out from just a bunch of moves.

Oh, come on. It wasn't THAT big of an upset. He almost won the Rumble last year, was in the Elimination Chamber, etc..

The match itself was kind of a dud, but it moved the story along.

HAHAHAHAHA. Either Laurinaitis is a dunce or he's really good at his doofus character.

Talk about a mass of humanity.

The city that booed Santa Claus...

A WWE segment that put over Warrior? Whoa.

For some reason, this doesn't feel 100% like The Rock I remember.

This is kind of a weird segment.

Daniel Bryan vs. Zack Ryder works for me. Two guys who've earned their pushes.

AAAAWWWWW....

I like the Z! TLIS tights from Ryder.

I do remember those three guys being together as champions. That was great.

Internet fan logic: tapping out to the World Champion = buried, ball dropped, etc.. He put up a good fight. Nice counter to end the match.

Love Cena or hate him, him being hurt close to Mania's not good.

Cena's headlining the biggest PPV of the year (if not in years) in 13 days. He should be looking better agains a guy in a 12-man midcard match. Would Rock be struggling here?

Pretty impressive stuff from both guys here. Good ending.

Mark Henry wasn't portrayed as importantly as the Mania headliners (even though he dominated the match with one of them until the end). Obviously he's getting "buried" too.

That wasn't particularly well-acted by Menounos. She's

A King Kong Bundy reference? I doubt that was on anyone's Bingo card. Ditto for WrestleMania 2.

Miz's downfall over the last year is BS. And they wonder why they have to go back to names from eras gone by.

Maybe Miz takes someone out of the 12-man tag and takes their place?

Of course the guy in the World Title match at Mania needs to go over.

I hope Jericho accuses Fallon of being a wannabe of someone.

I like all four of these guys. Please don't let this be overshadowed by Aksana and Vickie.

Or Twitter graphics about people who aren't in the match.

Note that Long and Laurinaitis are being treated as more important than the competitors in the ring (who the company is relying on for things like live events and merch sales).

Good match for the most part.

Wow. This is pretty crazy.

More emotional than HBK/Flair? No.

That was HHH's first live event in as long as I can remember.

Good setting the stage by Shawn. He can move a crowd like few others.

Taker's one of those few others, as he showed.

Note that it's not "Suit HHH" coming down to the ring here.

Oooohhhh.... good tension between the ex-DX partners.

"Just 24" like that isn't a lot of them.

I guess if I hadn't grown up watching these guys, it wouldn't be as special. As it is, I like it.

I wonder how they're going to deal with Taker's short hair at WrestleMania.

I really like Taker driving a wedge between the two long-time friends. Good selling of that remark by them.

That's all for Raw. NXT should be up in the morning. A news post will be up presently. Thanks for reading and I apologize for the lateness!
