Main Event Reax - 5/29/13, news on NXT call-ups, Interviews with Angle/Kim/Bully Ray, Kofi out, WWE signing update, Raw joke gets press, AJ profiled, Former TNA Champion returning, Raw audience, and Questions on Borash, Double J, calling spots, dominant heels, Extreme Rules, Steamboat, Lesnar, Punk vs. HBK, and ROH

Main Event:
Sheamus vs. Barrett was pretty darn good. I know I say this about just about everyone, but I hope they have bright futures. I wish both would get more time to speak as characters (Sheamus already gets a good deal, but shows seem to be dominated by the same couple of people). Barrett's a diamond in the rough. He's not an amazing talker, but I think he can continue to grow and maybe be someone they can bet on in the future.

I like that they acknowledged the Wyatt Family vignette, making it important.

Cesaro vs. Gabriel was another pretty good match, as short as it was. Here's the thing, though: we had no reason to care about it. It was just thrown out there as another match with no build-up. If this was my first time watching WWE, I'd know that both guys were talented, but not much else. Why are they facing off? What are their motivations? Why should I cheer Gabriel and boo Cesaro?

I liked the post-match as a pure heel move.

The argument can be made that the show needed some levity after two "serious wrestling matches" and the recaps, and that some fans want to see more "popcorn" acts instead of straight-up brawling or technical wrestling. Personally I would have liked to have seen video packages and/or promos for those other two matches instead of that brief match.

Everything else from yesterday is after the break.
There's said to be a lot of excitement in NXT that the Wyatt Family is being called up to the main roster, as they're considered some of the best talents down there.

Kurt Angle talked about wanting to get back in the main event mix in TNA and the possibility of returning to WWE down the line. Angle vs. Bully Ray for the TNA Title after Slammiversary would be fine for me, though there would continue to be complaints about the age of main eventers and such. As for what he does when his contract his up, there's also the possibility that he goes into some kind of Management role in TNA.
He's still an amazing performer at his age, so I wouldn't mind one last run in WWE against some top names.

Gail Kim talked to Marvel ahead of Slammiversary. The early days of the Knockouts division were indeed pretty good. I think Zeb Colter/Dutch Mantel was a big part of that behind-the-scenes. They did all have distinct personalities and such. I loved the "fan challenge" angle that led to Taylor Wilde winning the Knockouts Title from Kong (Kharma). The current Knockouts division isn't bad, either, though seemingly every character is angry and ruthless.

Kofi Kingston will undergo elbow surgery soon and could miss 4-8 weeks. He'll be written off on Smackdown. Talented guy, so I hope he comes back strong (and maybe wins back either the U.S. or IC Title?). Or maybe he changes pace a little bit and goes back for the Tag Titles or something. In some ways, it's good that they'll have to re-examine his role since he was just kind of "floating around".

DGUSA/EVOLVE is teasing that Samuray del Sol could appear for them in July, should he win their championship in one of his remaining scheduled dates. I actually think it'd be pretty cool if he trained in NXT while their champion, culminating in him officially adopting his new WWE persona (presumably dropping his mask in the process if WWE desires). I don't know a lot about those promotions, but some of Sapolsky's ideas intrigue me.

A joke made on Raw about Toronto's mayor got a mention. Not the rise of Curtis Axel or the upcoming debut of the Wyatt Family. Grrr.

AJ Lee (justifiably) was named to a list 100 Hottest Women. Maybe they dig crazy chicks, too? Not bad for someone who lived in her car for a few years. She's a great role model. Maybe not her character, but the person behind it is.

Bully Ray talked about the differences between Paul Heyman, Vince McMahon, and Dixie Carter as bosses.  That's pretty smart advice from McMahon.

Jeff Hardy will return at Slammiversary in a role to be announced on Impact. Maybe that'll add some buys/interest to the show. I like the role they're going to be using him in, since it could serve to elevate the other people involved.

Raw's rating was back below 4 million (3.95 million). Remember that the show was on Memorial Day.

For my take on Tuesday's PWInsider.com questions (which I mistakenly missed yesterday):
1. That's pretty much it. Bischoff and Borash aren't exactly friends. It's a shame, because there are few people more dedicated to TNA than Borash.

2. I'm under the impression that he's focusing more on TNA's international endeavors, such as British Bootcamp, Ring Ka King, and the relationship with AAA (as well as some other things that are likely in the works). I don't know if we'll see him on Impact or anything anytime soon, but I imagine he might still wrestle for some of those international endeavors. I also think he was stiffed from being TNA's first Hall of Famer.

3. I'm under the impression that this was just a mistake by Orton and not something to get mad about as some kind of slight against pro wrestling history.

4. Brock Lesnar? Mark Henry? Big Show? Kane? They might not be on top for months upon months, but some of them get some good runs. But yes, Cena ultimately prevails against just about everyone.

5. Of note, WWE explained the ending here and here, and PWInsider.com themselves mentioned that first tweet. I wish they would have explained things better on TV or on the PPV itself, but I don't think it was inherently a bad ending IF the follow-up is good. Of course, everyone's focusing on "SuperCena" even though Ryback took him to the limit and looks credible enough to possibly take the title at Payback.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. He was injured. To date he hasn't wrestled for all of 2013. Some have high hopes on him.

2. Cena? Del Rio? Jericho? Maybe even Kane or Daniel Bryan. Or Punk turning face. There are some good possibilities.

Nothing to add to 3.

4. I think that maybe we should wait until Punk retires to say who was truly better, since he could theoretically get even better. But, yeah, both are all-time greats.

5. That's always pretty much what it comes down to. Spread the word about ROH and maybe more people will check it out and the audience will grow.

More wrestling tomorrow.
