GFW notes, Interviews with Morrison/Balor, new WWE trademarks, more Raw on the Network, remembering Mahoney, Piper book update, Steiner opens restaurant, WWE live event notes, another promotion on Fite app, and Questions on Bayley moving up from NXT, Tough Enough alumni, Shane vs. Taker, the lack of seatbelts in driving scenes, Rude on commentary, and TNA's mistakes

Colby Corino will debut for GFW in May. Even if GFW doesn't become as big as TNA, it's still giving work to wrestlers.

Nova Pro Wrestling will hold a No. 1 contender's match for GFW Women's Championship, as ROH's Veda Scott will face Amber Rodriguez.

GFW's Sonjay Dutt will compete against ROH's Sonjay Dutt at an event called for Masters for Ring Entertainment.

Working with other promotions to get GFW names more work is a good move. Right now, the promotion is still an indie vying for a bigger TV deal.

Everything else from yesterday is after the break.

The former John Morrison talked about Roman Reigns and more:
- I don't know what it would take to give wrestling an off-season unless they "switch off" every so many months to where part of the roster's "season" is off for a few months while the other seasons continue.

-- For example: Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn work from April through December before getting four months off. Dolph Ziggler and Cesaro work from August through April before getting four months off. AJ Styles and Dean Ambrose work from December through August before getting four months off. The same holds for writers, management, etc.

- I hope Mundo doesn't get in trouble for breaking kayfabe about Prince Puma being Ricochet. I don't know if that's true in the LU canon. There's plenty of speculation about Puma/Ricochet heading to WWE, but it's definitely not a done deal.

- It would be interesting to know how much money Reigns has made for WWE so far vs. Morrison's run there. That should be one measure of knowing how to work.

WWE has registered trademarks for "Shinsuke Nakamura" and "King of Strong Style." I wasn't aware you could trademark someone's birth name, but indeed you can. This is a good sign for how much they value Nakamura.

WWE has added 100 new hours of Raws from the early 2000s to the Network. So, more Ruthless Aggresion era content is up.

Finn Balor promoted NXT in New York. I fully expect him to be on the main roster by Summerslam. It'll be interesting to see who replaces him as NXT Champion.

Balls Mahoney memorial services have been postponed to Saturday, April 30.

The Roddy Piper book worked on by his children is due in October. I hope he gets a statue like Dusty, Warrior, and Bruno.

There was a WCW reunion at Scott Steiner's new restaurant in Georgia. Some of those names are almost unrecognizable out of character.

Notes from WWE in Dubai:
- Alicia Fox welcomed the crowd to the show. This is notable because they didn't have female wrestlers on the last Middle Eastern loop.

- Los Matadores worked on the show under that gimmick (no El Torito). That's pretty interesting from a kayfabe perspective. I guess WWE's not ready for the Primo and Epico characters to work live events again.

Championship Wrestling from Hollywood is now streaming on the Fite app. It's good for smaller promotions to get that exposure.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. It looks like they're going to continue to use her in the veteran role. With Emma potentially leaving the brand, her services are going to be really important.

Not much to add to 2. They're all part of the WWEPC continuing to improve. I'd think they're all fairly low on the list to be used on TV given how many people have more experience than they do.

3. The match and ending were fine. No complaints here.

4. Hopefully they aren't actually endangering themselves and others in such a manner. The flatbed truck thing is really funny. Oh, "reality TV."

5. That's a pretty good way of putting it.

6. a. I think Angle tapping Joe out in Angle's second TNA match after Joe's 18-month undefeated streak was a major blunder. It alienated the old-school TNA fans and showed anyone coming in to see Angle that TNA's best wasn't as good as the former WWE guy. Eventually, the booking of guys like Joe and Styles as not being in the league of guys like Angle and Sting turned off a lot of fans and kept them from growing.

b. This is pretty much tied to a. Joe should have been pushed as one of their top assets, going over Angle at the right time and showing TNA wasn't WWE-lite.

c. The X-Division and Knockouts in TNA's heyday were big assets WWE couldn't compete with. They could have "cornered the market" so to speak on those styles at a time when WWE was in something of a funk. What a lot of TNA bookers didn't get was the X-Division wasn't just about small guys doing cool moves; the people doing those moves needed to matter.

d. I think Hogan and Bischoff could have added to TNA, but they were given too much control and blew through a LOT of money. Using some older names to enhance the product isn't a bad idea, but a lot of times they were the centerpiece of the booking and it just didn't make the company money.

So, I'd like to think they'd be better off if they accentuated their strengths instead of trying to relive past promotions. Imagine if NXT had Rhyno as their champion right now. No knock on him, but that's not what NXT's for.

More wrestling tomorrow.
