NXT and Main Event Reax - 4/27/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's NXT and Main Event.

NXT:
- Asuka vs. Eva:
Eva letting the crowd get done with their chant before locking up was smart. How do you know if she can wrestle or not if you don't pay attention to the match?

Good pacing here.

Both women are showing more personality in this match. Good to see. A match is more than just moves.

Nice use of Nia Jax. I'm liking the pairing with Eva.

Eva's improving. She's still green, but maybe a lighter shade now.

Asuka showing some fire.

That was mostly good to continue both women's growth as WWE superstars.

I liked Asuka going right for the kill on Nia.

Joe's going to be a lot of fun as NXT Champion. I hope we see Joe vs. Aries and Joe vs. Nakamura.

- Revival vs. Lee/Parker:
Dawson wasting no time getting his frustrations out after the loss at Takeover.

This is just an old-school beatdown.

I love Dawson wanting to give the other guy an ass-kicking, too. This isn't about winning or losing; it's about making a statement.

Oh, The Revival are keepers. They're legit tough guys.

Strong post-match promo from Dawson. He's a natural on the mic.

- Blake/Murphy vs. Hype Bros:
One thing about Zack not getting a singles push: it means he'll continue to help Mojo get to that next level.

It's worth seeing what these guys can do without Alexa.

Blake and Murphy make great crash dummies, bumping and serving as antagonists for others.

That was pretty good. Blake and Murphy make a solid team, Ryder's got the experience, and Mojo's got the energy and the connection with the crowd. It all worked out well.

BAH GAWD ENOUGH IS A DAMN NOUGH! The Revival continue to make statements tonight. I look forward to them facing the Hype Bros.

Carmella's got energy and a connection to the crowd. I hope losing Enzo and Cass doesn't sink her progress.

- Carmella vs. Aliyah:
Carmella's got a natural personality that comes through in the ring.

I'm liking the heel attitude for Aliyah.

That was alright. Carmella seems to be improving, and Aliyah had a fine first singles match at this level.

OK promo from Samson.

Excited to see Aries again next week.

- Nakamura vs. Samson:
I love Shinsuke's mind games.

Good to see Samson get some shine, too.

Samson's not bad at all in the ring. He clearly knows the WWE style.

Nakamura's offbeat offense is fun to watch.

Main Event:
The Rich Brennan Memorial Show....

- Anderson/Gallows vs. Ryder/Fandango:
It didn't take long at all for the Good Brothers to get to their second WWE match.

Thankfully there's probably not much need for these guys to "adjust to the WWE style."

I enjoy both Ryder and Fandango. They're solid troopers, and WWE needs people like them.

Ryder and Fandango are working together pretty well.

I kind of expected the Good Brothers to just destroy these two. I thought they were supposed to be a dominant team.

This is mostly going well.

That was pretty good! The experience of Anderson and Gallows as a team is pretty clear.

- Ziggler vs. Viktor:
Hopefully at least Ziggler can beat the abandoned Ascension member. It might be worth using these 60-ish days to let Viktor try out something new as a character like Erick Rowan did after the Wyatts split.

Viktor's not bad. He's usually the one to set up an opponent for Konnor to knock down, so I can't say I'm surprised.

That was good while it lasted. I hope we get more from Viktor as a singles guy going forward, even if it's just on the Network.

- Owens vs. Swagger:
Owens is always a lot of fun in the ring.

I particularly appreciate Owens making the most of headlocks and chinlocks, since they've become so cliche in wrestling.

This is picking up.

I kind of wish the frog splash was the ending.

NICE way to get out of the ankle lock.

Good ending.

Maybe they fired Brennan because Owens can do his own commentary?

More wrestling coming up.
