Miz vs. MVP, Heenan update, Phoenix vs. Kong?, HHH in creative, Why 2/3 is big for TNA, Wade Barrett's group, Morley's new website, change to the Royal Rumble, C.M. Punk-fan incident, AJ Styles and Mike Adamle updates, NC Impact tapings, Lockdown update, Shelley injured, Raw dark match

Here's today's news, starting with PWInsider.com's questions:

The first question is about Eric Bischoff, and I don't know enough about the issues involved to comment. Sorry.

Question #2 asks about comparing the WWE runs of MVP and The Miz. I can definitely see how MVP's seemingly out-of-nowhere face turn (and the big losing streak that accompanied it) cut his legs out from under him. I never really thought to compare the two, though the questioner has a point that people were skeptical about both of them when they first came to WWE and thought they were being pushed too far too soon. MVP grew on me faster than Miz did, and I'm also confused as to why he was so misused. Some of it stems from MVP joking about the person giving him a urine test. That's what led to the losing streak if I remember correctly.

Bobby "The Brain" Heenan is still recovering in Florida. No real news update there.

Next up, my thoughts on how big a Kong-Phoenix match at WrestleMania would be.

I don't necessarily think it would be the "Hogan-Andre" of women's wrestling, but if they built it right, it would indeed be a pretty big deal. WWE could (and should) really rejuvenate the women's division in the future, with or without Kong.

Someone asks if Triple H having more power in WWE has anything to do with people being less "on the leash" on the mic and in the ring. The answer from them was that it could have something to do with him, and also a good deal to do with lower business from WWE sparking a need for change in the creative end of the company. Either way, I like the change. It's possible that it's still as scripted, but much better.

February 3rd is such a hyped day for TNA because it's the beginning of "sweeps week" for TV, when shows try to pull out all the stops for higher ratings.

Wade Barrett's new group is being advertised as the Nexus for Smackdown house shows., and Ezekiel Jackson is just "Ezekiel". I hope those are just placeholders.

Sean Morley has opened a website about the dangers of prescription drug abuse. It's weird seeing a guy so well-versed in politics and seemingly intelligent calling Matt Hardy fans "dink smokers". But that's another story.

This year's Royal Rumble will have 40 superstars instead of 30. At first I was wary of this, but I really like the Rumble and this theoretically means that more good wrestlers will get chances to be in it. As long as it doesn't get too crowded (and I think WWE can book around that effectively), I'm mostly optimistic here. Now both versions of Nexus can make it in in their entirety. We better see some "gang warfare". Whether it's 40 in future years should depend on the roster at the time. Bigger COULD be better this time.

C.M. Punk had an altercation with a fan at a recent house show. A firsthand account of the incident is here. Fans and wrestlers should never physically interact in this kind of manner. I'll wait until more details are available before analyzing this much further.

Update: Here's a link to another story on the matter. Punk isn't expected to miss any ring time.

AJ Styles should be able to return to the ring for Against All Odds. TNA obviously has plans for him down the line, so maybe they won't have to wait so long to pull the trigger on them after all.

TNA will tape 2 episodes of Impact in NC on 2/24. They're leaning towards having neither of them being live at this point, but that could very well change. If the taping goes well, there could be another non-Impact Zone taping in a few months. If they can make money doing TV on the road, they should be starting down that path. The Impact Zone crowd can bring a show down sometimes with the "This is Awesome" chants and cheering the heels. They worry too much about being "smart" I think.

TNA Lockdown will definitely be on the road this year, but the where hasn't been specified yet. Apparently it's somewhere that is a good draw for TNA on house shows, so they're smart in booking it.

Mike Adamle's lawyer asserts that Adamle was under the legal limit of blood alcohol content in Illinois and shouldn't have been charged with DUI. He also said that Adamle fully cooperated with police. The police say that he failed a field sobriety test and showed erratic behavior. Adamle is epileptic and takes medication for it, so that could factor in to all of this.

Alex Shelley has suffered a broken collarbone. No word on if he will miss any ring time from this.

NXT Season 4 Rookie Johnny Curtis wrestled a dark match with William Regal before Raw. I don't ever remember a time where a current NXT Rookie wrestled a dark match at a TV taping. This could mean that WWE is high on him and wants to see where he could fit in down the line, or it could have been just a spur-of-the-moment decision. Raw wasn't in his home town, so that theory's out.

That's all for tonight. More news tomorrow.
