Main Event Reax - 1/6/16, More on NJPW stars potentially going to WWE, Raw and TNA audiences, WWE tag team name injured, Y2J in the mix, Storm-TNA update, original plan for TNA World Title, Interview with Angle, ROH-NJPW notes, lineup for Friday's TNA PPV, Brock set for Fastlane, Jeff Hardy back in the ring, big injury to Cena, and Questions on Sting's next match, part-timers in WWE, the Freebirds in the HoF, Full Sail, and the Attitude Era

Main Event:
J.O.B. Squad 2016. I'm fine with there being a random group of undercard heels as long as it's entertaining. Heck, it gives them something to do!

I enjoyed that opening promo, as silly as it was. I enjoy random undercard comedy heels.

I guess the Usos need some other partners. Kalisto and.... Sandow? That could work.

Kind of weird for Stardust to acknowledge being Cody after actively fighting it for so long. I did like all the references.

I like Titus' promos. He's not a particularly deep character, but he gets the job done.

- Titus vs. Stardust:
Fine match so far.

Both these guys know how to put a match together. This is some good working.

Nice match overall. I like Titus, but I kind of wanted Stardust to win this one. I feel like Titus usually wins these encounters.

- Breeze vs. Ryder:
Good match for the time it had. It is kind of a shame Breeze is already stuck in this place on the card, with no Summer Rae to boot.

- Usos vs. Axel/Bo:
HILARIOUS victory lap spot. I like this group already. Let them have fun with it.

Good match so far. The Usos are really fluid as a team.

Wow, the new faction is already losing. I didn't really expect them to beat the Usos clean, but it's still pretty telling about where those four heels are.

Everything else from yesterday is after the break.

Shinsuke Nakamura is advertised for the joint CMLL/NJPW tour that will go from Jan. 17 through Jan. 24. So, the odds of him appearing in the Royal Rumble are monumentally slim. He could still be headed to WWE, but it won't be before that tour concludes. He has to finish out what he's been contracted for before he can even officially discuss a WWE deal. Then, he has to pass medical examinations and the like. It's entirely possible he does end up staying with NJPW. I know the idea of him coming to WWE is really exciting, but at this point it's still just a rumor.

Update: Nakamura has acknowledged leaving NJPW at the end of his month, at the end of his current contract. In an interview in Japan, he said he has plans to reach a bigger stage via WWE. The two sides have not officially talked (legally, they can't while he's still under contract), and he still has to pass all the necessary physical examinations and the like before being signed, but it's pretty clear he intends to head there in the near future. This is a really big signing, to say the least. Nakamura had expressed interest in going to WWE around this time last year, but had signed a deal with NJPW before anything could come of it. It is expected Nakamura will lose his championship before his contract ends.

Raw's audience Monday was 3.58 million viewers, virtually even with last week. Considering how big that main event was, it's a shame there wasn't more interest. There are definitely fans who don't want to see Reigns, Sheamus, and Vince.

Konnor is out of the ring due to a jaw injury, possibly a dislocation. I wonder if the Cosmic Wasteland angle is getting dropped, since it seems like Stardust is doing his own thing now.

Chris Jericho is working WWE live events this weekend. Honestly, I think with a number of top  names missing time, it's good to have him on-hand to contribute to the product.

James Storm is back with TNA full-time. It's great for TNA to have the veteran back in the fold to help that next generation of stars, although it seems like he's really done everything there.

Update: Storm was offered significantly more money in TNA for a two-year deal, and that money is guaranteed. I can't really blame him for choosing that kind of deal. WWE is open to a future return, but he's locked in to TNA until early 2018.

The original plan for the World Title Series ending (back in July) was Lashley defeating Matt Hardy. I would have been good with that. Lashley's really great.

Kurt Angle talked about his final shows with TNA. I look forward to seeing his remaining matches there. He's been an absolute wrestling machine. As for his future, I'd definitely like to see one last run in WWE. That's not a guarantee, though, by any means. He's earned time off before looking at any further matches.

ROH talents really enjoyed working the Jan. 4 Tokyo Dome show. There could be more interaction between ROH and NJPW with the rumors of top NJPW talents leaving.

Finn Balor continues to tease a reunion with Bullet Club talents on his social media accounts. If all this ends up being for nothing, there's really going be a backlash. For now, though, it's a lot of fun and really funny in places.

Set for Friday's TNA One Night Only PPV (which is kind of canon this time I guess):
- Knockouts Number One Contendership Gauntlet featuring Awesome Kong, the Dollhouse, Velvet Sky, "and more." If they're going to have a big return or debut for the division, here's where to do it.
- Mahabali Shera vs. Aiden O'Shea
- Lashley vs. Tyrus
- TNA Tag Team Championship: The Wolves vs. Jessie Godderz/Eli Drake vs. Kurt Angle/Drew Galloway
- Beer Money vs. Eric Young/Bram

I imagine there might be at least one more match on the card. I look forward to seeing how TNA progresses in 2016.

TNA's first episode of Impact Wrestling on Pop got 255,000 viewers. Hopefully it goes up from here as word spreads about them building for the future. The show, as a whole, was quite good.

Brock Lesnar is being advertised for Fastlane next month. I think that could be where he solidifies his place in the WM32 main event, either as champion or No. 1 Contender.

Jeff Hardy said he was returning to the ring at the Jan. 6 Impact Wrestling taping. We'll see what shape he's in when that material airs in a few weeks. He's expected to miss a lot of 2016 after another surgery.

NJPW performer and Bullet Club co-founder Bad Luck Fale is also re-negotiating his contract. His current deal ends at the end of the month, leading to speculation of him also heading to WWE to be with Finn Balor (and potentially other Bullet Club/NJPW stars). As of this writing, no Bullet Club/NJPW names have been signed to WWE. They are unable to officially sign while still employed by NJPW, so we probably won't know the future of Fale, Anderson, or Nakamura (and likely Gallows and/or Styles) until the end of the month at the earliest. It is entirely within the realm of possibility they all re-sign to NJPW, although it seems as though AJ at least has finished up with ROH and NJPW.

John Cena is undergoing surgery to repair a rotator cuff tear, and is expected to miss Wrestlemania 32. He had been set to face The Undertaker at that show, so this really throws plans out the window. That's incredibly unfortunate. That would have been a really big match. I hope WWE has a big Plan B in mind, because they've got several important names on the shelf right now. They might need to take risks they normally wouldn't take if they're going to make WM32 the hit they want it to be.

WWE is in discussions to sign ROH/NJPW star Rocky Romero as either a performer or a coach at the WWEPC. He's worked there a number of times in 2015 as a trainer. I'd like to see what he could do in WWE.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Sting vs. Taker is definitely the obvious route to go. They'd be crazy to put him in there with someone who works a really physical style after his injury. Something with more smoke and mirrors like a match with Taker would be smart. Otherwise, they could make Sting vs. Bray work, but the idea of Sting keeping Strowman, Harper, and Rowan at bay is not one I'd like to see.

2. It's not a perfect analogy. Rollins beat Sting, after all. That said, there's something to that notion, and they do need to be careful with their use of the people who were stars 10-15 years ago and aren't contributing regularly now.

3. Given how inclusive they were with the Von Erichs, it could happen.

4. I'm honestly not sure what else happens in Full Sail Live when WWE's not there, but the school itself is a big school for aspiring media creators.

5. Maybe, but I don't know if the audience who calls for that kind of thing would really be satisfied. At some point, the "Jerry Springer" kind of stuff gets old. They'd probably be more popular with the high school/college crowd, but I don't know if it'd be worth the trade-off of losing sponsors and so on.

More wrestling tomorrow.
