NXT and Main Event Reax - 6/1/16

Read on for my thoughts on last night's NXT and Main Event.

NXT:
Good verbiage from The Revival. Dawson in particular is a strong talker.

I wasn't really crazy about the opening faceoff. The delivery was good, but the verbiage wasn't that great. It got a little too meta with the "good hands," "jamoches" talk and it basically insinuated both teams are losers.

OK Shinsuke promo. He gets by a lot more on his mannerisms than his verbiage.

- Tye vs. Murphy:
I really wonder how Murphy's going to go as a babyface. I'd like to see him paired with Billie Kay, Peyton Royce, or Nicola Glencross to play off the Australian connection, but he's worth giving a shot as a singles star first.

This is going alright. Both men are certainly skilled.

That was solid. Tye's good at interacting with the crowd, and Murphy can move well.

I hate the sitdown interview format most of the time. "This feud is so heated they're going to have to settle it inside a steel cage!" But they're just hanging out like ten feet from each other.

That was alright, but I don't think it was going to sell anyone on the show who wasn't already going to watch it.

- Aries vs. Samson:
No Elias promo? I guess they don't want people booing him over tweener Aries.

Smart work by Aries early. What separates him from other smaller wrestlers is his strong mat abilities adding to his high-flying prowess.

Samson's psychology of wearing Aries down is solid, but there's no stopping the former TNA and ROH World Champion.

Austin wrestled circles around Elias there. That's not a knock on The Drifter as much as a testament to how great A-Double is.

Nice fired-up Aries promo. I'm glad he's finally in NXT/WWE.

I'm glad Almas is getting out of that old basement to wrestle next week. Hopefully he'll make enough money in WWE to replace that ancient projector.

- Revival vs. Gargano/Ciampa:
Gargano's got a pretty solid base to add to his flashy offense.

Nice to see some believable hard-hitting offense from Ciampa and The Revival after giving in and watching Ospreay vs. Ricochet.

Good tag team tactics as always from the top contenders.

Gargano's offense is impressive. It works best when featured in a match with more grounded styles; that way it means more when we do see the flashy stuff.

I HATED that ending. A pin out of nowhere instead of selling the superplex is not my thing at all.

I liked the post-match to sell how downright mean and nasty The Revival can be.

Wow. They got the ring set up for the contract signing pretty quickly.

I don't like the insinuation Asuka hasn't done anything impressive by laying waste to everyone for months. There's a difference between "I'm more dominant than you. You're only dominant because you haven't faced me" and no-selling the other wrestler's accomplishments.

Mostly good delivery from Nia. She's definitely confident in her words and actions.

Not a strong promo from Asuka, but she's continuing to learn English.

Asuka vs. Nia is going to be a WAR. I'm looking forward to it.

Main Event:
I love the Vaudevillains taking credit for The Club destroying New Day.

Pretty fun Vaudevillains promo.

Really funny back-and-forth with Aiden's correct spelling of soft.

That was a fun opening promo with all the references involved. Smart writing.

- Vaudevillains vs. Enzo/Cass:
Enzo's right back to form. Good to see.

I like the heels working Enzo over.

The Vaudevillains are showing good stuff here. They've got time to tell a story.

Solid match. I like the dynamic of both teams.

- Viktor vs. Ryder:
Viktor's doing a good job making the most of his singles run.

I'm liking the work both men are doing here.

Pretty good match overall. Ryder always puts in solid work on the online shows.

I liked Summer putting over the brand extension and where she'll end up. It should matter to everyone on the roster.

I don't like the "nobody cares about you" thing. Why would you ever encourage people to not be invested in your opponent and segment?

That was an OK promo back and forth. There's a difference between putting yourself over and burying your opponent as not being worthy or someone to care about.

- Sasha vs. Summer:
I like Summer's mean streak.

I mean, I like Summer's submissions, too. In general, she's a solid hand in the ring.

That was a pretty good ending. I've definitely missed Sasha in the ring.

More wrestling coming up.
