NXT Reax - 1/28/15, Lesnar update, Main Event update, big award for Pheonix, nixed Rumble entrants, WWE high on NXT name, next HoF member, and Questions on The Ascension, Taker vs. Brock, and MLK Day

NXT:
I definitely didn't see that tag team title change coming. I'm curious as to what this means for Sin Cara and Kalisto. Both of whom are pretty talented, by the way, as was seen here. Hopefully this will make more sense in the weeks to come.

I liked the backstage Divas segment. That Fatal 4 Way has a lot of potential, and is a perfect place for a title change. I like Charlotte a lot, but it might be time to shake things up.

Are we finally going to see Solomon Crowe on NXT TV!? People have been waiting for this for months.

Neville vs. Kidd was REALLY good. Both men really brought their A-games, and it showed. I definitely think Neville's ready for the main roster as far as his wrestling ability goes.

Nice post-match interview. Neville vs. Zayn vs. Owens around the time of WM31 could be pretty fun.

Not a bad segment with Sasha and Becky. More selling for what should be a great Divas' Title match.

I'm very interested in the new tag team champions. They've got their work cut out for them after the past two teams to be champs.

Good ending to the tag team match. This feud's been built pretty well.

Good promo between Balor and Itami. I think Itami works best when he doesn't talk a lot and just delivers with awesome moves.

It's a shame Emma's more or less back to square one. Her losing to the novice Carmella isn't a good sign.

Fine enough match to keep Corbin's momentum going. Remember when Dempsey was a serious threat? I think those days are over unless he makes a big statement soon.

Nice segment with Corbin backstage. I kind of want to see Corbin and Dempsey as a team doing their thing.

That was a really good segment with Zayn and Owens. The whole "less is more" mantra really made it all mean more than them just going right into beating the hell out of each other. Takeover's going to really be something special.

Everything else from yesterday is after the break.
Brock Lesnar has been removed from advertising for Smackdown. It will be a nice change of pace when the champion can be around regularly. Brock really got a sweetheart deal.

WWE will tape Main Event ahead of the live Smackdown to be shown Friday January 30. The blizzard really changed their plans there.

Beth Phoenix will receive the Frank Gotch Award in Waterloo, Iowa. That's a pretty cool honor!

There was talk of having Tommy Dreamer and/or Blue Meanie in the Royal Rumble this year. Interestingly, JBL was behind Meanie being an entrant. Dreamer would have been a pretty cool surprise for that audience, although he'll probably be right back on TNA TV in 2015.

Alex Riley has been remaking on Twitter how he should have been in the Royal Rumble, with some of his fans agreeing. This led to the hashtag #Rileywalks. I don't know if he'd actually leave the company over not being in the Rumble. I hope not.

X-Pac, Chris Jericho, and Nikolai Volkoff were all backstage at the Rumble. X-Pac would have been a cool surprise entrant. Y2J's been done and Volkoff's getting up there in age. WWE was lacking in fun surprise entrants this year.

WWE is said to be impressed with Kevin Owens' merchandise sales, so expect more from the former ROH Champion. WWE's got a solid number of emerging talents. They've just got to use them right.

The next addition to the WWE Hall of Fame is expected to be Ray Stevens, inducted by his former tag team partner Pat Patterson. It's good to see WWE going into the past for names.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. The Ascension has been pretty consistently damaged since the first promo. They're undefeated, but this definitely feels like they're getting thrown under a bus. It could be unintentional, but it's definitely not been beneficial for Konnor and Viktor.

2. I don't think it would ever come down to that, but Vince would have to be EXTREMELY adamant to try something like that.

3. Big E's a pretty laid-back guy in real life and might have wanted to something more lighthearted. He's quite talented and not even 30 yet. There's plenty of time to use him in a way to break out from where is now.

4. Ultimately WWE is going to use their airtime for getting their product over. If they want to use R-Truth to get someone over, MLK Day probably isn't going to change that. I agree it would be more or less tokenism to change things just on account of him being black on MLK Day. I'd rather them push someone effectively all year than just on one day.

5. Yeah, The Ascension will have to give the crowd reasons to care about them in what limited ways they can in order to get over despite the obstacles in their ways. The odds are definitely against them.

More wrestling tomorrow.
